The Shadow Of The Crescent Moon By Fatima Bhutto
The shadow of the crescent moon is a debut novel of Fatima Bhutto published by penguin
publications in 2013.
Fatima Bhutto was born in Kabul, grew up in Damascus, and lives in Karachi. She is a member of
one of the most famous families in Pakistan, Bhutto family a family that has produced two prime
ministers, her aunt Benazir Bhutto and her grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. In her debut novel she
talks about Pakistan s socio political issues. She doesn t only talk about the politics but has much
more to tell about the families relationships and all that stuff we are involved in. Mainly novel
highlights the issues like: war on terror its effects, Sunni s violence over Shia muslims the
insurgency of tribal men.
The plot is not structured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pakistan is a country that demands a sacrifice from its people. ... And I don t know if that s
specific to Pakistan. I think any violent place demands a certain amount of sacrifice from its people.
(Fatima Bhutto)
Bhutto s novel is not just a portrait of Pakistan s dark days wrought by fundamentalism war on
terror but it also serves as a window of Pakistan s bright side. In the scenes set in markets, bazaars,
dining tables funerals we glimpse the Pakistani culture so vividly especially of Pakistani foods that
we re compelled to admire Bhutto s affectionate depiction of her homeland. Moreover her use of
Pashto Urdu words in novel shows her understanding affection with all the regions.
The Shadow of the Crescent Moon is a disturbing but very readable book that tells the story of
Kings (military political officials) Fakirs (people of FATA). Love hates, sincerity betrayal, loyalty
treachery, bloodshed peace, are at the heart of this very book. Though this is the imperfect but a
worth reading book which I highly recommend, because give the actual situation of the FATA, is a
very daring work. And probably, only someone coming from the Bhutto dynasty can afford to write

The Effects Of Icteric Leptospirosis With Renal Failure
Leptospira was isolated and identified as the cause of icteric leptospirosis with renal failure called
Weil s disease by Adolf Weil about 100 years ago, almost simultaneously but independently it was
identified as an occupational hazard of rice harvesting in china and japan, an identical syndrome
was identified in sewer works in Europe. Since that time leptospires have been isolated from almost
all mammalian species on every continent except Antarctica. leptospirosisis now recognized as the
most widespread zoonosisdisease worldwide and a major cause of disease in many domestic animal
species. (Levet).
Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease, many animals can spread leptospirosis pets and farm animal,
rodents, raccoons, opossums. There are two ways to contact the disease, drinking contaminated
water or by swimming, rafting or kayaking of by coming in contact with soil contaminated with
urine or bodily fluids of infected animals. The second way of contamination is by coming in direct
contact with urine or bodily fluids of an infected animal for example in a hospital setting.
Individuals most at risk are farmers, mine worker?s slaughterhouse workers, veterinary and animal
caretakers, fisherman and people who work with fish, and military personnel and those involve in
water outdoors activities (control). The disease if more prominent in areas with inadequate sewage,
and tropical regions, epidemics are usually seen in extreme weather patterns. (Lunn) Leptospirosis is

Maternity Leave
Maternity leave is an absence from work prior to having a child. Maternity leave in the United
States is required to be allowed, but paid maternity leave is not guaranteed. There are different
lengths of leave provided for the parent which are typically determined by the parent s employer.
Within the United States of America While in other countries parents are given paid maternity or
even paternity leave. There are some research studies that shows statistics of possible correlations
between longer parental leaveand a baby s bond and growth development.

Within the United States the only true restriction it states about maternity leave specifically is
that a woman who has a vaginally delivery may have at least 6 weeks of leave and a woman who
had a cesarean section may have at least 8 weeks of leave. In addition, the US only has four
states that has laws in place regarding maternity leave as of 2018, with a fifth state adding laws or
regulations in 2019. Instead of specific regulations involving maternity leave the US does have laws
enforced to protect a mother s job. Included in these regulations are prohibiting employers
declining to hire or promote someone because they are expecting a child, also these regulations
do include that a woman can not be fired or demoted because of pregnancy or taking the expected
6 8 weeks leave. It is to the employer s discretion whether to offer paid leave, partial paid leave, or
unpaid leave, and even jobs that offer these benefits often have criteria the woman must meet to
qualify for any paid leave. In contrast to the United States, Europe has a minimum 14 week leave
for new mothers. In addition, to the 14 week minimum Europe has a minimum standard to provide
financial assistance during the leave, including 3 main fianincal resorts; social security benefits,
paid leave from their employer, public funds. Throughout Europe while the minimum maternity
leave is 14 weeks, most establishments offer longer extended time

Corresponding author: Abstract Employee engagement is the level of commitment and
involvement a worker has towards their organization and its values. It is a win win approach for
employees and employers and an important factor for employee s positive contribution towards
organizational success. On the other hand, Nongovernmental organizations are growing at a high
rate in Kenya and while research supporting the possible importance of employee engagement is
clear, research about how to create employee engagement is remarkably undeveloped in the
nongovernmental organizations sector. The study sought to explore the influence of employee
training on employee engagement in NGO s operating in Meru County, Kenya. Descriptive
research design and purposive sampling technique was used. The study adopted structured close
ended questionnaires as research instrument and split halves reliability test technique was adopted
and a score of 0.85 obtained. The target population was employees in 26 NGO s operating in Meru
County. The sample size was 172 drawn from 3 organizations the study registered a response rate

Effects Of Poverty And Poverty
The social problem I plan to discuss in my paper is the effect poverty has on society. In this paper
I will go into detail about income inequality and the effect poverty has on crime, health and
children. As someone who has family members living in poverty this social issue is important to
me. I hope to pinpoint alternative approaches to solving this issue and my ultimate goal is to find
an optimal solution to the povertycrisis. It s no surprise that poverty and crime rates are positively
correlated. Through hypothesis testing Judith R. Blau and Peter M. Blau concluded High rates of
criminal violence are apparently the price of racial and economic inequalities. In a society
founded on the principle that all men are created equal economic inequalities rooted in ascribed
positions violate the spirit of democracy and are likely to create alienation, despair, and conflict.
The hypothesis derived from this assumption, which is also deducible from a general sociological
theory, is that racial socioeconomic inequalities are a major source of much criminal violence. ()
These findings are significant in proving that United States economic inequalitydoes cause conflict.
According to a 2010 wealth spread chart the top 5% of Americans posses 74.2% of the nations
wealth. With a wealth spread like this, conflict is bound to arise. A famous study done by Shaw
and McKay in (1942) compared delinquency rates in various areas within 21 cities and showed
that the same variations in delinquency among socioeconomically different urban areas persisted
for several decades even though their populations and ethnic compositions completely changed
during that time. This study concluded that poverty is a main factor for delinquency rates. ()
Numerous of other studies have observed the highest crime rates in the poorest of areas. In the
poorest of areas people need to do what they can to make ends meet. Crime is a necessity to
some individual in order to feed their families and is not always necessarily done out of hate.
Time and time again this can be proven especially when natural disasters occur. People lose
everything and desperate times call for desperate measures, which usually involves looting. Money
is everything in this world

Stray Cats Collaboration
Today I met with a volunteer from the Cat Network, an organization that spays and neuters stray
cats in South Florida. The volunteer, Ibis, is currently volunteering at the adoption center, a
place were people looking to adopt a pet can find cats in need of homes. She takes care of the cats
by cleaning their cages and making sure they are well fed. She also lets them out of their cage
sometimes to play and get exercise.
When asked why the Cat Network is needed in our community she says that South Florida is
currently dealing with a massive overpopulation of stray cats. This overpopulation has continued to
expand in size and will only get worse through the years. Stray cats live hard and dangerous lives
in the streets and their lives can get even worse if they get pregnant. Cats can get pregnant the
moment they turn 4 months, meaning they can give birth when they re only 6 months old. And
cats don t just have one or two babies; they have litters. Typically, a cat has around 4 to 6 babies
in a litter. Finding stray cats and spaying, vaccinating, and then releasing them saves them from
living even worse lives. It also decreases the amount of stray cats living in the area since the cat ...

life for the better, whether it s spaying them and putting them back outside or finding them home

life: helping and caring for animals. She feels that through the Cat Network impacted many
people s lives by helping them gain a new family member. She definitely feels like she s making a
difference and believes that the cats would be living worse lives if it weren t for the work that the
Cat Network does. She states that she loves this organization and plans to continue volunteering

The Problem Of African Trypanosomiasis
African Trypanosomiasis is also known as sleeping sickness. It is important to understand that
African Trypanosomiasis is a vector borne parasitic disease with a geographical distribution limited
to the African continent where the disease is predominant. The parasites concerned are protozoa
belonging to the genus Trypanosoma (WHO, 2008). The disease is transmitted by the bite of a
tsetse fly, which has acquired their infection from human beings or from animals harboring the
human pathogenic parasites (WHO, 2008).
Human African trypanosomiasis(HAT) occurs only in sub Saharan Africa in regions where tsetse
flies are localised, without tsetse flies, the disease cannot be transmitted. For the disease to be
transmitted it is necessary to have the presence of someone infected or infected animals in the
community and tsetse fly (WHO, 2008).
HAT is among the most serious Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD). If untreated it is invariably
fatal, with gambiensese form generally causing a chronic disease leading to fatal squeal after some
years(Checchi et al, 2008).
Over 60 million people are living in 250 locations are at risk of contracting the disease, and under
10,000 new cases were reported in 2009. Occasionally, a pregnant woman can pass the infection to
her unborn baby. In theory, the infection can also be transmitted by blood transfusion or sexual
contact, but such cases have rarely been documented (CDC, 2012).

Letter no.15: Trade in Quebec City; general trade of the country and of his majesty s domain
The letter titled Trade in Quebec City: general trade of the country and of his Majesty s domain
was written in year 1709. It was the time when British rulers were trying to attain the profit as
much as they can on north America, before the control of British rulers it was a colony of French
as the author stated the entire colony is granted as seigneuries and as the custom of Paris is
observed here (father Antoine Silvy 97). The reason stated to write this letter was to pass
information regarding trade between Quebec and other cities to the Majesty the king of England.
The exchange in goods were between various states, such as America, French, British and several
more. The author wrote this letter separately as he described in the letter that when telling you of
Quebec City I did not tell you of its commerce. (father antoine 97). ... Show more content on

The Fundamental Principles Of Buddhism And Islam
The following paper is going to discuss and describe the fundamental principles of Buddhism and
Islam, consider the common and distinctive attributes and outline their influence and presence in
modern Asia. The notion of religion is the fundamental foundation, and later the central body, for all
past, present and future societies and cultures. The majority of the world s population fabricates
their own unique identity through the values and morals of the religion with which they follow.
The present day allows opportunity for individuals to exercise their religious beliefs openly and
with an absence of discrimination and judgment. Personal beliefs provide guidance and structure in
the day to day lifestyles of those who engage with religion, influencing life choices.
Throughout history it is evident that religion has been utilised as a means to justify actions along
with the restraint of individuals. (Walker, 2012) Buddhismis an avenue of practice and spiritual
development leading to an insight into the true nature of reality. The experience within the
Buddhist tradition, over countless generations has created an incomparable resource for all those
who wish to follow a path a path that ultimately culminates in Nirvana of Enlightenment.

The Christian Church In The Middle Ages
Some Catholic writers justified their rights to papal supremacy by way of forging political alliances
with influential political entities. While instituting for itself, prominence amongst the churches, the
establishing of the Bishops status within the community as well as his position in political affairs
were realized. As the conflicts amongst the Christian communities of the eastern and western sphere
continued, the isolation and dislocation of these communities fueled the weakening of unity
amongst European civilization. From here, the Roman Catholic Churchestablished its intricate
hierarchy with the popeas the head of the churches in the west, placing the possession of supreme
power into his hands.

Of these that of the priests is the more weighty, since they have to render an account for even the
kings of men in the divine judgment. You are also aware, dear son, that while you are permitted
honorably to rule over human kind, yet in things divine you bow your head humbly before the
leaders of the clergy and await from their hands the means of your salvation. In the reception and
proper disposition of the heavenly mysteries you recognize that you should be subordinate rather
than superior to the religious order, and that in these matters you depend on their judgment rather
than wish to force them to follow your will. (Placher, 1988, Pg. 123). This seemed to be an
attempt to outline the limits of royal power and the ecclesiastical authority concerning the
prominent position of the emperors in affairs of the state and Church. The emperor was to be an

Sociotechnical Systems and Management Styles Essay
Sociotechnical Systems and Management Styles In today s advanced technological workplace,
companies are looking into several new management styles and concepts. Among them is a theory
called sociotechnical systems (STS). This is a theory that has been around for about 50 years and
is still being attempted for use today. Many managers along with one member of the STS founding
team, Fred Emery, argue that STS is obsolete; other managers have implemented STS with great
success. With this new style of managementpractice, several changes will have to take place. These
changes along with several examples of both positive and negative effects will be examined
throughout this essay.
To introduce the STS theory and let the reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basically these principles 1. Scan the environment looking for influences on social and
technological subsystems Causation 2. Implement effects to combat environmental changes
Optimization and 3. Design the effects to achieve implementation Design. The extent of these
efforts often result in complaints among many high level managers. Many managers wonder if all
the required time will pay off. Skeptical managers will often turn aside from this style of
management.
Is STS Obsolete (Practical)?
Sociotechnical systems have been around for a long time now. Conventional STS has been
integrated into classroom instruction at the graduate level. While trying to do this, STS lost many
of its unwritten detailed subject matter and has been made conceptually complicated as well as
mathematically complex.3 Another problem that Fred Emery states in his article is the
overselling of STS. The pressures for STS to work by itself have raised the theory at an extremely
high standard waiting for pitfalls in the process. Steve Canbana in his article on participative design
states, Over the years it has become apparent that traditional socio technical systems (STS) design
contains a number of pitfalls that frequently have led to implementation failure or partial success. 4
A third issue lies in problems with

Big Business And Conservation Activism
The struggle between providing for California s burgeoning population and the corresponding
increase pressure on California s ever shrinking pristine natural wonders and natural resources
has been a constant clash between the forces of big business and conservation activism.
However, the outcomes of these many battles have increasingly favored the side of economics
over nature. The trend that becomes clear is that the will of the businessmen have been prevailing
over the concerns of the conservationists more and more. What are the forces that are pushing the
pendulum closer and closer towards the desires of industry? By examining the history of this
conflict between these two factions, it will become clear how one has had progressively more of
an advantage over the other. Today, the main reason that industry s goals almost always prevails
over conservation s efforts is economics and what an advantage in economics can buys one
politically. Economic interests will predominately have ever increasing priority over environmental
interest as long as money is considered speech and corporations are people; therefore, the most
pragmatic solution that would allot conservation groups with an equal voice in the political process
with business is to call for an Article V Constitutional Convention to pass an amendment to
permanently get money out of politics nationwide. During a time before money was protected as
political speech, conservation groups had a somewhat even footing

Is The Unconscious Theory Applied In The Art Work Of Dada
What is Freud’s unconscious theory and how is it applied in the art work of Dada
/ surrealist artists?
Sigmund Freud was a Jewish Austrian neurologist who founded the discipline of psychoanalysis.
Freud went on to develop theories about the unconscious mind. The concept of the unconscious
theory was central to Freud’s ideas of the human mind. He first introduced his ideas around
the unconscious theory when trying to explain what happens to ideas that are repressed but remain
in the mind.
In Freud’s original outline of the main principles to the theory, he believed the mind was
made up of 3 systems †the unconscious, preconscious, and the conscious. The unconscious
part of the mind is made up of hidden desires, impulses or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This suggests his childhood fear of sex has been repressed in the unconscious and is coming through
into his paintings through Freudian methods such as deep symbolism, dream like landscapes and
figures, and even slight use of humour. As well as the use of sexual motifs, Dali has juxtaposed
many objects in this painting such as the stamen of the lily and the tongue of the lion, the locust
over the human mouth, the woman morphing into Dali’s face. This all suggests that Dali
was representing his hidden desires through the absurdity of the juxtaposition of these objects. It
was a way of expressing his unconscious as these objects have turned into something strange and
dreamlike; some of them improbably enlarged (the locust), and some morphed into one another (the
woman, Dali’s face and the lower part of the man’s body).
Joan Miro, also a surrealist artist, created the art work ‘Catalan Landscape’ in
1923 4. To Miro, surrealism was an artistic response to the power of dreams and the unconscious
mind, but was only a brief obsession.
Within the painting, the flat shapes and lines (mostly black or coloured) suggest the subjects,
sometimes quite cryptically. Because the subjects are not immediately known as to what they mean
or are this shows that Miro has been influenced by the idea that

The Prediction Of Fullerene Structure
Fullerene was first recorded in a Japanese article, Kagaku, written by Eiji Osawa in 1970 which
stated the prediction on the existence of C60 compound [1]. In the following year, a conjecture on
the stability of C60 was established by Osawa and Yoshida where the aromatic characteristic of
C60 was described further. The stability was further better explained when the HГјckel s calculation
method was applied and introduced to the icosahedron structure of C60 by Bochvar and Gal pern
[2]. The prediction of fullerenestructure was discussed based on graphiteballoon speculation made
by David Jones using pseudonym of Daedalus in a journal, The Scientist [3]. This speculation was
essentially describing the gas phase carboncluster in the form of geodesic cages which is applied to
giant fullerenes compound [2].
Fullerenes can be described as closely packed carbon cages hold in rings of, most commonly,
hexagons and pentagons with sp2 hydridised carbons. In some larger structure with more than 100
carbons, heptagonal rings may present. A large numbered fullerene will require larger cage to
obtain the most least steric angle between the bonds and the structure might have a surface of
concaved [4]. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the cage structures of fullerenes C60 and C70. Both of
these fullerenes are the most stable fullerene with more planar and larger nearly spherical structure
and have higher thermodynamic stability with positive enthalpy change of formation, ∆H_f [4].

whether this place could satisfy their objectives. Therefore, this report is aim to provide a
guidance and some suggestions for the clients, to enable them carry out their strategy more
easily. Land and property appraisal In this case, the information about this property is not enough
to support us making any decisions. For example, THE CLEVELAND STREET WORKHOUSE
Document 1(assignment sheet) has mentioned It is generally of poor quality internally and will
need significant refurbishment, bearing in mind the listing of the front block . Information like
this is too weak to support our strategy and we need some more detailed information. Therefore, I
think it is essential to make a Land and property appraisal. This contains a well rounded check of
the targeted land and property. Not only it lets us know how much cost is needed to maintain the
property at an acceptable standard, but also it helps us to find out the opportunities for adaptation
and rationalisation. In short, the Land and property appraisal let us know what to do, in which
place, at what time. Is it the fundamental activity to set up a baseline assessment of the targeted
land and property. Land and property appraisals could be

Differences Between The Northern And Southern Regions...
Civil War Compare and Contrast What are the differences between the Northern and Southern
regions during the Civil War? The North and the South had many differences in their regions and in
their strategies to help them win the war. The things that stood out the most were the geography,
economy, and transportation, and advantages. The Climate in the North consisted of frozen winters
and hot summers. The climate in the South consisted of short winters and long humid summers.
The economy in the North consisted of large factories and mass productions. The economy in the
South consisted of large plantations. The North s transportation was the use of railroads, which was
the fastest transportation at that time. The South s transportation was water.

Ashes By Susan Beth Pfeffer
Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer is about a girl who is caught in a situation in which her father
attempts to bribe her to do something immoral. One message suggested in this story is how
misdirection and trickery can negatively affect relationships between a parent and their child.
Throughout the course of the story, the father of the main character is shown feeding his daughter,
Ashes, an endless string of compliments such as You re one in a million . He gives her many
words of positive reinforcement to try and persuade her to steal money from her mother. He needs
this money to pay back some guys, whom of which are after him. He claims that he will pay her
back. This strengthens the argument that false claims can negatively affect relationships... Show

As seen in this quote, Ashes father is misdirecting her by sneakily telling her that she made a
good decision to offer to help him steal the money. This evidence clearly represents how Ashes
father is misleading her with lies and it will most likely reflect in their relationship negatively. A
third scene that reflects the idea that manipulation can negatively affect the relationship between a
child and their parent is when the story quotes Am I really? I ask, not needing the reassurance. I
knew I wasn t a million in one girl,no matter how often Dad told me I was. I still loved hearing
him say it. This proves that Ashes appreciates her father s compliments and people generally
respond comliently to things they appreciate, so her father understands that complimenting her will
be a good persuasion method. When all of this evidence is put together,it is easy to comprehend
that manipulation can very easily negatively affect relation between a parent and child. The
compliments were told by Ashes father to get what he wanted; money. All of the compliments
Ashes father gave to her are doubted by her but nonetheless greeted by open ears. These examples
prove that Ashes father was trying to get her to steal her mother s money using

What Does Plath s Cut Poem
Almost similar to Edge , Cut is one of Plath s collections that contain bright metaphors of death
things. It conveys the idea of a woman who cut her thumb when setting meal in the kitchen rather
than the onion that she will be used for cooking. In this poem, Plath expressed the idea of an
insurgent in life.
What a thrill
My thumb instead of an onion.
The top quite gone
Except for a sort of a hinge (L. 1 4)
Ironically, in the opening of this poem labels the joyful of cutting the thumb. It indicates the signs
of psychological disorder for the woman who cuts her thumb. As previously stated in Chapter II,
usually in hard times of life, people often lost their self and unconsciously do something
destructively toward other or self. When a thumb is cut, people should cry for it or sad because her
thumb is in pain. However, this woman is pleased when her thumb cut. Her thumb cut until her
upper thumb fairly disappeared but she feels the pleasure for this. In this case, the incident of
cutting thumb seems not an accidental one. It is looked like the woman intentionally cut her thumb.

A flap like a hat,
Dead white.

Germany s Geographical Features Of Germany
The country I was assigned to research is Germany. Germany s geographical features are its
rivers such as the Elbe River, the Danube River, the Weser River and the Rhine River. Germany
was by poor and weak areas that made it quite easy for imperialism to occur. Nonetheless, being by
the water as a coast was really beneficial to Germany, These Rivers helped Germany with
receiving and trading things such as health supply, weapons and food. In 1914, Germany s
population was recorded at 67 million and Germany during World War One was registered at
137,846 square miles.
The type of government Germany had during WWI was called a Federal Republic. A Federal
Republic is a state in which the powers of the central government are restricted and in which the
states, colonies and or provinces retain a degree of self government. The official language for the
country at the time was German and the name of the currency used was called German Papiermark.
The major religions were both Catholicism and Christianity.
German people were perfectionists to say the least. The German people take pride in their ability
to be well organized and always strive for perfection. Germans do not accept their faults and were
rarely complimentary. German people may come across unfriendly but that is just in their nature to
be stoic. Germans were known to love pork and incorporate it into many of their meals. Something
about a hearty cuisine really made the Germans happy. Beer happens to be the most consumed

Tradition and Ritual in Judiasm Essay
The purpose of this research paper will be to examine how Judaism rituals have helped the religion
remained amongst the most prominent in the world. The use of tradition and rituals has been at the
very core of its existence. Birth, adolescent, marriage and death rituals will be used to highlight how
the Judaismway of life is not dependent on the written word but rather the actions of those who
follow this historic Hebrew religion. The paper will begin with a brief outline of Judaism and its
relationship with God and then continue with how the written word of the Torah has laid the basis
for the many traditions still practiced in Judaism.

Some Jews believe God contains the universe while others believe the universe is God. This non
congruency of belief as to who or what is God has led followers of Judaism to have many names
for God or as often found in Jewish literature a reluctance to even write the word God.
What is his name? what shall I say to then? God said to Moses, `I AM

Torah
It is extremely difficult for the average person to understand how a religion that cannot agree on a
name for their God could survive. The survival of Judaism for almost 4,000 years with half of its
history existing without a homeland, a temple or a common geographical location can be credit to
their teaching of the Torah. The word Torah is derived from the verb to guide or to teach 3.
Historically Judaism has survived by the older generation teaching the younger generation the heart
of their faith carried and communicated through the way, the path and the teachings of the Torah.
Torah technically refers to the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. These five books are called
Chumash and are divided into 54 portions called a parashah. At least one portion is read in the
synagogues each week. The readings give to each member of the synagogue the basis for their life
practices of the week.
This set of practices is called the Way of Life. The practices and the way the individual connects to
God are called mitzvah. The word itself

David by Donatello and Michelangelo
David by Donatello and Michelangelo
When thinking about a triumph over an unimaginable feat, the story of David and Goliath comes to
mind. During the Italian Renaissance, Florence was under constant change and turmoil however
David remained a consistent symbol of endless possibilities for the people. For the Florentines,
David represented the essence of civic virtue courage, fortitude, and faith (Murray, 39). Various
artists have revealed their own depictions of the young shepherd boy but two stand out among the
masses. Donatello and Michelangelo both created masterpieces on the biblical subject although the
approaches of each artist were completely diverse and caused unique reactions.
In 1404, the very powerful Medici ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each David was sculpted in the naturalistic image that their creator envisioned. They also share
the commonality of association with the Medici family, a very powerful group of people that
loved the arts and was said to have commissioned Donatello for the David sculpture. Later on they
became too powerful and the republic forced them out of control, resulting in the creation of
another David as a celebration of their triumph. The earlier David stood in the courtyard of the
Palazzo della Signoria, which also happened to be the very place that Michelangelo s piece was
displayed upon completion.
Despite the fact that the David s share time periods, political meanings, and origins, the two
sculptures look completely different and evoke very different emotions. Perhaps the most
significant difference is found in the choices made by the artists to place their sculpture before or
after the battle against Goliath. Donatello s David is portrayed following the victory against the
feared adversary. He is full of glory and stands on the head Goliath with his oversized sword
clutched in his small hands. Michelangelo takes a different perspective and depicts David in the
moment before battle with nothing but his sling in hand. This creates more of a feeling of
anticipation and strength of courage. The determination in Michelangelo s sculpture s face is very
apparent where Donatello creates a face that is calm and victorious.

Application Of The Gauss Newton Method
As a final example of the application of the Gauss Newton method, we attempted to find the best
fit for a set of data with a sinusoidal function. This example illustrates how the Gauss Newton
method can applied to functions with more that just two variables, and that it can be applied to
an equation of any form. In it, will attempt to model temperature data with a sinusoidal function.
Below is a chart of the average high temperatures per month of the city of Monroe Louisiana
(courtesy of weather.com). Month Temperature (Fahrenheit) January 56 February 60 March 69
April 77 May 84 June 90 July 94 August 94 September 88 October 79 November 68 December
58 As can be seen by the chart, this data appears to take the form of a sinusoidal function.
Therefore, we will try to fit it with the general form of this function, shown below:
y(t)=Aв€
—sin(wв€
—t+phi )+C A is the amplitude, w is the frequency, t is time, phi is the phase
and C is a constant. Given this equation there are four unknowns that must be found. In the code,
these four variables are represented by the column vector a and are returned in the column vector
w. As always, the code requires that we first solve, analytically, for the partial derivatives required
for the Jacobian. In this example, the function to be minimized, r, is given by:
rk=qkв€’(a1в€
—sin(a2в€
—pk+a3)+a4) where rk is the residual at the particular temperature value,
qk is the measured temperature and pk is the month, represented in the code as January = 1,

Enthalpy Of Combustion Of Alcohols Lab Report
According to the graph in figure 5, as the number of Carbon atoms in alcohol increased by 1, the
change in standard enthalpy of combustion would increase by around 200 kJ/mol. This is proven
as the equation of the linear line (protruding from the bottom left to the top right of the graph) is
y=199.81x, where x is the number of Carbon atoms, y is the standard enthalpyof combustion and
199.81 is the gradient of the line and how much the standard enthalpy of combustion would
increase by when multiplied by x. There were also errors/uncertainties that were shown in the
graph and result tables. The average error of each of the different alcohols was of 6.51%. Thus, as
the change in standard enthalpy of combustion of the alcohols increased, the uncertainties and
errors became greater. The size of the uncertainties can be seen becoming greater as the size of the
change in standard enthalpy of combustion increases in the graph of figure 5 and the results table
of figure... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the number of Carbon atoms in a homologous series of simple alcohols increases, there are
more bonds that are needed to be broken. When a bond is being broken, energy must be used in
order to break apart the alcohol molecule. When there is a long hydrocarbon chain, extra energy
must be used to break apart the alcohol molecule, therefore, more energy must be used to break a
longer hydrocarbon. For example, ethanol contains one more methylene group (CH2) than
methanol. When the ethanol is burnt, it will have one additional C C group and two additional
C H bonds to be broken. When the bonds of the C C and C H bonds are broken, this creates an
endothermic process and more energy is needed to break the bonds. However, the energy
produced by the increment in the amounts of CO2 and H2O forming outweighs the energy that is
absorbed by the new C C and C H bonds, so it becomes more and more

Difference Between Cohesion And Cohesion
.Theoretical part 1. Scope of the study
Language is not realized by some unrelated sentences but by varying number of utterances. The
stretch of language may be spoken or written. Cohesion therefore is the glue that holds words
together. In other words, if an essay is cohesive, it sticks together from sentence to sentence and
from paragraph to paragraph. A speaker of English who hears or reads a passage of the language
which is more than one sentence in length can normally decide without difficulty whether it forms
a unified whole or it is just a collection of unrelated sentences. Thus a unified text is achieved by
the use of cohesive devices. The scope of the study focuses on articles of the writers; Ammar Ali
and Azmi ashour from Al Ahram... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This relation has been referred to as a superordinate or hyponomic relation in most of the earlier
studies or inclusion: specific general by McCarthy (P.57)
The second major element of lexical cohesion is collocation.(
Nunan1993, P.29) declared that collocation can cause problems for discourse analysis, because it
includes semantically related item and this makes it difficult to determine if there is any cohesive
tie or not. Much linguistics refuses to deal with collocation because of this.
Grammatical cohesion Any discourse must be related not only lexically but also grammatically.
(McCarthy, 1991, 34 35) says that grammatical cohesion is the surface in written discourse.it is
displayed by spoken and written discourses and those links are classified into three categories:
references, ellipsis, substitution and conjunction.Grammatical cohesion is divided into references,
ellipsis, substitution and conjunction. According to Brown and Yule (1983), the traditional
semantic of reference is that its relationship is held between expressions in text and the world, and
between different parts of text. There is a different account of the co reference relation, paying
attention to pronouns.

Neutrality In My Brother Sam Is Dead
The American Revolution was a war of principles fought by Loyalists and Patriots. However,
Loyalists believed in neutrality, peace, and no brutality or treason. Therefore, Patriots believed
in freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, and the right to break away from the British
government. In the novel My Brother Sam is Dead created by James Lincoln Collier and
Christopher Collier, a family disputes over which side is right. James and Christopher Collier
use the ironies of Life, Jerry, and Sam s death to induce Tim s decision of neutrality. Firstly, Life
s death contributes to Tim s reasons to be neutral. For an instance, Tim finds out that father was
taken by cowboys on the way back from Verplanks Point. In June of that year, 1777, we found
out that father was dead. ...it wasn t a Rebel prison, ship it was a British one (164). Tim expects
father would die because the cowboys had already attacked him for cattle and he was a Loyalist.
Tim discovers that loyalty is valued in the British side. He thinks that why should he be loyal to a
side that s dishonest. Tim chooses neutrality because the Loyalists are deceptive, brutal, and aren t

The Economic, Military and Political Power of the Union...
The economic, military, and political power of the Union was much greater than the Confederacy.
Still, the war did go on for four years. The Confederacy demonstrated itself strong many times.
Throughout the war the struggles continuously shifted, and because of that, so did the economic,
military, and political strength of both sides. Although both sides saw accomplishments of military
successes, at the end of the war, the bigger economy of the north, centralized government and
overpowering manpower would eventually lead to a northern victory. In 1863, it was up in the air
because either the Union or the Confederacy could have won the war, but the Confederacy did not
have enough manpower to outlast the Union in a drawn out war. The Union was seemingly far
more advanced in terms of industrialization compared to the South. The North was in control of
about 80% of United States industry (McPherson, 24). Also, most of the Confederate industry was
not located in the Deep South but rather the Upper South, mostly in Virginia. After Deleware, West
Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland joind the Uninion, the Confederacy continued to lose large
amounts of possible industry and manpower. The Confederacy lost these states due to the clever
politics of the North such as the state of Maryland, as it was to the opposition within certain states
such as West Virginia. With the loss of these four states the confederate industry would start to
decline and could not compete with the industry in the

The Preservation Of Life In Solitude By Henry D. Thoreau
The preservation of nature is a very important topic in today s society. Everywhere from popular
media to politics, it is an often debated topic that if not taken seriously, it could mean the end of
nature, no, of life itself. Human beings although not always considered directly a part of nature, in
reality, are an integral composition of natureitself. However, mankind throughout the centuries has
wounded and destroyed nature. If viewed from a broader spectrum, they have been destroying
themselves. War, advancements in civilization, industrialization, and many more human
developments have brought nature life itself to the brink of annihilation. Nature is not only the

Human beings have been blinded by modern society and its greed and thirst for power through
war. War and greed only causes unjustified damage to nature, life itself, and should be stopped. It
is not necessary for every human being to desert the comfort of their modern society and go live
in the wilderness. However, measures should be established to preserve and protect nature from
monetary greed; the unjustified elimination of Earths landscapes for profit driven means. There
should always be limits to deter the further destruction of our lands. Weapons capable of
committing mass destruction to nature should also be limited in their use and production; they not

from a man’s point of view, and explores the way men treat woman in
relationships. The former does this by a male narrator writing a poem to a female, using imagery
to entice her. The latter by using a duke, explaining the story of what happened to his previous
wife whilst looking at her picture. Both the poems use imagery and other poetic devices but in

This shows he knows how to write a love poem and he again he has all the right techniques for

a different purpose. The narrator is describing the duchess to the emissary â€Å
That’s my last duchess painted on the wall”. This
shows he is only describing the painting but as he is using the imagery he describes what she
was like and how she made him angry. However as he describes her it makes her seem like she is
just an object, which she was to him. This is his view of woman, that they belong to a man
which was very common belief at that time. From the poetic devices used their attitudes are
different because in the first he shows his sensitive side and tries to put a bit of romance into it.
However the imagery in the second goes against him as he believes that she was his object and
belonged to him. In both poems there is the recurrent theme of irony. In  To His

The Metamorphoses By Ovid s Metamorphoses
Ovid s Metamorphoses tells the story of Diana and Actaeon, the goddess of the hunt and a man who
unwittingly stumbles upon the sacred grotto of Gargaphia while Diana is bathing with her nymphs.
The outraged goddess transforms Actaeon into a stag, and ironically, his own hunting dogs kill
him. Rembrandt s painting of Diana, Actaeon, and Callisto is an artistic interpretation of Book III
and a bit of Book II of the Metamorphoses, providing a visual insight of the scene that casts Actaeon
s unfortunate fate. Rembrandt s still life expresses many Ovidian themes of censorship, chastity,
and punishment by the divine hand. Despite superficial differences between the painting and the
book, the scene remains true to the myth of Actaeon Diana both visually and thematically.
Rembrandt successfully enhances certain Ovidian motifs by adapting imagery, characters, and
themes from the writing onto the canvas. Rembrandt s techniques are derived from the Baroque
period, using the style as a medium to project qualities of the Metamorphoses myth. Baroque
paintings commonly orchestrate colors by contrasting light and shadow, in which this painting
explicitly displays with a majority of a dark, almost black, landscape while light tones flood the
lower portion, where characters are (Britannica). The color scheme relates to not only the artistic
mode, but it also correlates with the text, where the setting is described as deep in the woods that

of Arkadina. He ultimately has an affair with Nina. The main symbolism in the play is an actual
seagull, which is a bird that lives near the sea. In Chekhov s The Seagull, the symbol of the seagull
is used to represent Nina Zarietchnaya because of her sense of freedom and security at the lake, her
destruction of Constantine Treplieff s heart and her own destruction under Trigorin and their love
affair. The symbol the seagull represents Nina, but the symbol changes meaning throughout the
play. In Act One, Nina is the seagull by the way she s drawn to the lake during her youth. She
says, My father and his wife never will let me come here; they call this place Bohemia and are
afraid I shall become an actress. But this lake attracts me as it does the gulls. My heart is full of
you (9). The seagull embodies freedom and a sense of security. Nina also says, That was my dead

Bangladesh Sweatshop
In a third world country, jobs are not easy to come by; especially jobs that pay enough to sustain a
living. However, various individuals living in these desolate places have found a solution that
seems repulsive to people fortunate enough to live in a first world country; sweatshops. On April
24th, 2013, in Dhaka, a district in central Bangladesh, a sweatshopcollapsed on the workers inside,
killing a thousand and injuring over two thousand. People were aghast at the working conditions in
sweatshops exposed in this event. Raveena Aulakh, Toronto Star journalist, went undercover at a
sweatshop to see the factory conditions and wrote about her experience in the article, I Got Hired
at a Bangladesh Sweatshop. Meet my 9 year old Boss . The article... Show more content on

Meem did not look unhappy. She was okay with working 12 hours every day, she didn t see
anything wrong with sitting on the floor, she quietly accepted the backache (Aulakh). However,
a woman reporter from a first world country wrote the article; people in third world countries see
things very differently. While Ms. Aulakh may have seen the pay as minimal, working
conditions as deplorable, and the workers as unfortunate, countless people are desperate to
obtain a factory job. In the New York Times Magazine article, Where Sweatshops Are a Dream ,
offers a view into the garbage dump in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, This is a Dante like vision of
hell. It s a mountain of festering refuse, a half hour hike across, emitting clouds of smoke from
subterranean fires (Kristof 2009). Countless families live on the garbage dump and earn their
living by scavenging for valuable trash. But talk to these families in the dump, and a job in a
sweatshop is a cherished dream, an escalator out of poverty, the kind of gauzy if probably
unrealistic ambition that parents everywhere often have for their children (Kristof). While people
in first world countries see sweatshops as abominable institutions, they are a necessary step for
individuals in third world countries to escape poverty, because they provide

The Life and Times of Lucille Ball Essay
The Life and Times of Lucille Ball
Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get
anything done in this world. That quote was one that Lucille Ball lived by throughout her twisted
and turbulent life. As one of the most recognized faces in the world, she is known to millions
simply as Lucy. She went from waitress and salesgirl to model to Goldwyn Girl to radio clown to
an unlikely leading lady in a ground breaking sitcom that is still seen in regular syndicated reruns
more than 40 years after the series ended. Beyond being a television legend, she was the first
woman president of a major Hollywood studioВ—a studio she co founded. This is the life and
times of Lucille Ball. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nervous and shy in a large city she despised, she lasted only six weeks at the school and returned
home to Celoron. While waiting for her big break, Ball modeled under the name Diane Belmont
until she was virtually bedridden for three years by rheumatoid arthritis. After her recovery, she
returned to New York and was chosen by Liggett and Myers to promote cigarettes as the
Chesterfield Girl. Her entrance into the film industry came about when she accidentally ran into
Sylvia Hahlo, a local theatrical agent, while walking up Broadway one day. Hahlo informed her
of an opportunity to appear in Roman Scandals (1933), produced by Samuel Goldwyn. Ball
auditioned and was hired as one of the twelve Goldwyn Girls , though it was a small part as a
slave girl. Despite her talent, it was quite possible that Ball might never have progressed beyond
a little known actress if it weren t for meeting Desi Arnaz, a Cuban bandleader. He made his way
to Hollywood in 1939 where on the set of RKO Studios, while filming Too Many Girls (1940),
Ball and Arnaz met; they were married on November 30, 1940, less than a year later. The Ball
Arnaz marriage was turbulent to say the least; their careers necessitated long periods of separation
and Desi had a fondness for liquor and women. Hoping to have

This section will be used to describe the organization and talk about information systems and the
roles needed to support them.
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Knowledge management systems provide a means to assemble and act on the knowledge
accumulated throughout an organization. Such knowledge may include the texts and images
contained in patents, design methods, best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These systems are typically used by first level supervisors. Generally, such reports focus on past and
present activities, rather than projecting future performance. To prevent information overload,
reports may be automatically sent only under exceptional circumstances or at the specific request of
a manager.
EXECUTIVE INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Executive information systems make a variety of critical information readily available in a highly
summarized and convenient form, typically via a graphical digital dashboard. Senior managers
characteristically employ many informal sources of information, however, so that formal,
computerized information systems are only of partial assistance. Nevertheless, this assistance is
important for the chief executive officer, senior and executive vice presidents, and the board of
directors to monitor the performance of the company, assess the business environment, and develop
strategic directions for the future. In particular, these executives need to compare their organization
s performance with that of its competitors and investigate general economic trends in regions or
countries. Often individualized and relying on multiple media formats, executive information
systems give their users an opportunity to drill down from summary information to increasingly
focused details.
Describe an organization of your choice. You will use this organization as you focus on the concept
of information systems.

Effects Of Relocation On The Social Development
The Effect of Relocation on the Social Development of Adolescents in the United States
Ziyi Liu
Vanderbilt University
The Effect of Relocation on the Social Development of Adolescents in the United States Moving
and relocation is a fairly universal experience for those in the United States and in similarly
developed societies. According to the United States Census Bureau, an average adult moves
approximately 11.7 times in their lifetime, making relocation an important factor to analyze when
looking at the general population. Movement is also common among adolescents as they follow
their families in relocation experiences. As a result, understanding the topic of relocation
becomes important in providing context to the greater issue of adolescent development. The
primary question of the paper is to ask what the effects of relocation are on the development of
social skills of adolescents. While frequent relocation in adolescents may not be the norm, it is
certainly also not a rare experience and although specific data is hard do pinpoint due to
limitations in survey (census) data, it is important to look at how the relocation experience can
change an adolescent s experience and provide further topics for analysis. There is a variety of
research that looks at the effects of relocation on adolescents. The literature suggests that those who
relocate frequently are different from their non mobile peers in their relationships in stress,
psychological health, rates of

unknown changes that require adaptive and flexible leadership. This type of adaptive leadership is
referred to as transformational , which motivates followers to transform their organization s values,
beliefs, and behaviors. Transformational leadershipis a theory that focuses on the leaders who are
minded to accept change, guide, and reward staff, understand its role within the organization, and
work toward developing a self aware staff that is not afraid to take risks to improve (Finkelman,

Due to the rapid economic development in three megacities in China, there has been a significant
increase in the amount of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) in both the gaseous form and in
the form of particulate matter( PM2.5 and PM10). On account of the rise of concentrations of PAHs
in the air, the amount of both seasonal and annual pollution has increased well above the standard
and national averages. Researchers collected a number of samples from the three megacities
including, Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, and a reference city, Datong. They also collected samples

PAHs can be formed by incomplete combustion of carbon containing fuels such as wood, coal,
diesel, fat, tobacco, and incense(Zhang, Chen, Lv, 2016).This study is seeking to determine the
chemical constitution for major PAHs, observe and identify the different seasonal variance in which
there is the most pollution, and identify the source of the PAH pollution in Beijing, Shijiazhuang,
and Tianjin that are believed to cause cancer, mutations and birth defects. In order to answer the
questions of this study multiple resources were deployed and experiments carried out. First air
samples were collected from the following cities, Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, and the reference
city, Datong. Air samples were also taken from four cities, Nanling, Shennongjia, Pangquangou, and
Changbaishan, that were all background sites. The sample sizes are listed in the table below.
These samples were collected at varies times of the year including, spring, summer, fall, and
winter over twenty three hours for five to seven days for the three megacities and the reference
city. Samples for the background sites were collected over thirty to thirty six hours on two
occasions. A particulate sampler was used for PM2.5 and PM10 sampling (Zhang et al., 2016).
After samples were collected they were stored at four degrees Celsius. Samples were then analyzed

I think any violent place demands a certain amount of sacrifice from its people. In the scenes set in markets, bazaars, dining tables funerals we glimpse the Pakistani culture so vividly especially of Pakistani foods that we re compelled to admire Bhutto s affectionate depiction of her homeland. Moreover her use of Pashto Urdu words in novel shows her understanding affection with all the regions. Since that time leptospires have been isolated from almost all mammalian species on every continent except Antarctica. leptospirosisis now recognized as the most widespread zoonosisdisease worldwide and a major cause of disease in many domestic animal species. The second way of contamination is by coming in direct contact with urine or bodily fluids of an infected animal for example in a hospital setting. Individuals most at risk are farmers, mine worker?s slaughterhouse workers, veterinary and animal caretakers, fisherman and people who work with fish, and military personnel and those involve in water outdoors activities (control). Within the United States the only true restriction it states about maternity leave specifically is that a woman who has a vaginally delivery may have at least 6 weeks of leave and a woman who had a cesarean section may have at least 8 weeks of leave. In addition, the US only has four states that has laws in place regarding maternity leave as of 2018, with a fifth state adding laws or regulations in 2019. Instead of specific regulations involving maternity leave the US does have laws enforced to protect a mother s job. Included in these regulations are prohibiting employers declining to hire or promote someone because they are expecting a child, also these regulations do include that a woman can not be fired or demoted because of pregnancy or taking the expected 6 8 weeks leave. It is to the employer s discretion whether to offer paid leave, partial paid leave, or unpaid leave, and even jobs that offer these benefits often have criteria the woman must meet to qualify for any paid leave. In contrast to the United States, Europe has a minimum 14 week leave for new mothers. It is a win win approach for employees and employers and an important factor for employee s positive contribution towards organizational success. On the other hand, Nongovernmental organizations are growing at a high rate in Kenya and while research supporting the possible importance of employee engagement is clear, research about how to create employee engagement is remarkably undeveloped in the nongovernmental organizations sector. The study sought to explore the influence of employee training on employee engagement in NGO s operating in Meru County, Kenya. Descriptive research design and purposive sampling technique was used. The study adopted structured close ended questionnaires as research instrument and split halves reliability test technique was adopted and a score of 0.85 obtained. • 6. Effects Of Poverty And Poverty The social problem I plan to discuss in my paper is the effect poverty has on society. In this paper I will go into detail about income inequality and the effect poverty has on crime, health and children. As someone who has family members living in poverty this social issue is important to me. I hope to pinpoint alternative approaches to solving this issue and my ultimate goal is to find an optimal solution to the povertycrisis. It s no surprise that poverty and crime rates are positively correlated. Through hypothesis testing Judith R. Blau and Peter M. Blau concluded High rates of criminal violence are apparently the price of racial and economic inequalities. In a society founded on the principle that all men are created equal economic inequalities rooted in ascribed positions violate the spirit of democracy and are likely to create alienation, despair, and conflict. The hypothesis derived from this assumption, which is also deducible from a general sociological theory, is that racial socioeconomic inequalities are a major source of much criminal violence. () These findings are significant in proving that United States economic inequalitydoes cause conflict. According to a 2010 wealth spread chart the top 5% of Americans posses 74.2% of the nations wealth. With a wealth spread like this, conflict is bound to arise. A famous study done by Shaw and McKay in (1942) compared delinquency rates in various areas within 21 cities and showed that the same variations in delinquency among socioeconomically different urban areas persisted for several decades even though their populations and ethnic compositions completely changed during that time. This study concluded that poverty is a main factor for delinquency rates. () Numerous of other studies have observed the highest crime rates in the poorest of areas. In the poorest of areas people need to do what they can to make ends meet. Crime is a necessity to some individual in order to feed their families and is not always necessarily done out of hate. Time and time again this can be proven especially when natural disasters occur. People lose everything and desperate times call for desperate measures, which usually involves looting. The volunteer, Ibis, is currently volunteering at the adoption center, a place were people looking to adopt a pet can find cats in need of homes. She takes care of the cats by cleaning their cages and making sure they are well fed. She also lets them out of their cage sometimes to play and get exercise. When asked why the Cat Network is needed in our community she says that South Florida is currently dealing with a massive overpopulation of stray cats. This overpopulation has continued to expand in size and will only get worse through the years. Stray cats live hard and dangerous lives in the streets and their lives can get even worse if they get pregnant. Cats can get pregnant the moment they turn 4 months, meaning they can give birth when they re only 6 months old. And cats don t just have one or two babies; they have litters. Typically, a cat has around 4 to 6 babies in a litter. Finding stray cats and spaying, vaccinating, and then releasing them saves them from living even worse lives. • 8. The Problem Of African Trypanosomiasis African Trypanosomiasis is also known as sleeping sickness. It is important to understand that African Trypanosomiasis is a vector borne parasitic disease with a geographical distribution limited to the African continent where the disease is predominant. The parasites concerned are protozoa belonging to the genus Trypanosoma (WHO, 2008). The disease is transmitted by the bite of a tsetse fly, which has acquired their infection from human beings or from animals harboring the human pathogenic parasites (WHO, 2008). Human African trypanosomiasis(HAT) occurs only in sub Saharan Africa in regions where tsetse flies are localised, without tsetse flies, the disease cannot be transmitted. For the disease to be transmitted it is necessary to have the presence of someone infected or infected animals in the community and tsetse fly (WHO, 2008). HAT is among the most serious Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD). If untreated it is invariably fatal, with gambiensese form generally causing a chronic disease leading to fatal squeal after some years(Checchi et al, 2008). Over 60 million people are living in 250 locations are at risk of contracting the disease, and under 10,000 new cases were reported in 2009. Occasionally, a pregnant woman can pass the infection to her unborn baby. In theory, the infection can also be transmitted by blood transfusion or sexual contact, but such cases have rarely been documented (CDC, 2012). The Fundamental Principles Of Buddhism And Islam The following paper is going to discuss and describe the fundamental principles of Buddhism and Islam, consider the common and distinctive attributes and outline their influence and presence in modern Asia. The notion of religion is the fundamental foundation, and later the central body, for all past, present and future societies and cultures. The majority of the world s population fabricates their own unique identity through the values and morals of the religion with which they follow. The present day allows opportunity for individuals to exercise their religious beliefs openly and with an absence of discrimination and judgment. Personal beliefs provide guidance and structure in the day to day lifestyles of those who engage with religion, influencing life choices. Throughout history it is evident that religion has been utilised as a means to justify actions along with the restraint of individuals. Sociotechnical Systems and Management Styles Essay Sociotechnical Systems and Management Styles In today s advanced technological workplace, companies are looking into several new management styles and concepts. Among them is a theory called sociotechnical systems (STS). This is a theory that has been around for about 50 years and is still being attempted for use today. Many managers along with one member of the STS founding team, Fred Emery, argue that STS is obsolete; other managers have implemented STS with great success. With this new style of managementpractice, several changes will have to take place. These changes along with several examples of both positive and negative effects will be examined throughout this essay. To introduce the STS theory and let the reader ... Skeptical managers will often turn aside from this style of management. Is STS Obsolete (Practical)? Sociotechnical systems have been around for a long time now. Conventional STS has been integrated into classroom instruction at the graduate level. While trying to do this, STS lost many of its unwritten detailed subject matter and has been made conceptually complicated as well as mathematically complex.3 Another problem that Fred Emery states in his article is the overselling of STS. The pressures for STS to work by itself have raised the theory at an extremely high standard waiting for pitfalls in the process. • 15. Big Business And Conservation Activism The struggle between providing for California s burgeoning population and the corresponding increase pressure on California s ever shrinking pristine natural wonders and natural resources has been a constant clash between the forces of big business and conservation activism. However, the outcomes of these many battles have increasingly favored the side of economics over nature. The trend that becomes clear is that the will of the businessmen have been prevailing over the concerns of the conservationists more and more. What are the forces that are pushing the pendulum closer and closer towards the desires of industry? By examining the history of this conflict between these two factions, it will become clear how one has had progressively more of an advantage over the other. Today, the main reason that industry s goals almost always prevails over conservation s efforts is economics and what an advantage in economics can buys one politically. Economic interests will predominately have ever increasing priority over environmental interest as long as money is considered speech and corporations are people; therefore, the most pragmatic solution that would allot conservation groups with an equal voice in the political process with business is to call for an Article V Constitutional Convention to pass an amendment to permanently get money out of politics nationwide. Sigmund Freud was a Jewish Austrian neurologist who founded the discipline of psychoanalysis. Freud went on to develop theories about the unconscious mind. The concept of the unconscious theory was central to Freud’s ideas of the human mind. He first introduced his ideas around the unconscious theory when trying to explain what happens to ideas that are repressed but remain in the mind. This suggests his childhood fear of sex has been repressed in the unconscious and is coming through into his paintings through Freudian methods such as deep symbolism, dream like landscapes and figures, and even slight use of humour. As well as the use of sexual motifs, Dali has juxtaposed many objects in this painting such as the stamen of the lily and the tongue of the lion, the locust over the human mouth, the woman morphing into Dali’s face. This all suggests that Dali was representing his hidden desires through the absurdity of the juxtaposition of these objects. It was a way of expressing his unconscious as these objects have turned into something strange and dreamlike; some of them improbably enlarged (the locust), and some morphed into one another (the woman, Dali’s face and the lower part of the man’s body). Joan Miro, also a surrealist artist, created the art work ‘Catalan Landscape’ in 1923 4. To Miro, surrealism was an artistic response to the power of dreams and the unconscious mind, but was only a brief obsession. The Prediction Of Fullerene Structure Fullerene was first recorded in a Japanese article, Kagaku, written by Eiji Osawa in 1970 which stated the prediction on the existence of C60 compound [1]. In the following year, a conjecture on the stability of C60 was established by Osawa and Yoshida where the aromatic characteristic of C60 was described further. The stability was further better explained when the HГјckel s calculation method was applied and introduced to the icosahedron structure of C60 by Bochvar and Gal pern [2]. The prediction of fullerenestructure was discussed based on graphiteballoon speculation made by David Jones using pseudonym of Daedalus in a journal, The Scientist [3]. This speculation was essentially describing the gas phase carboncluster in the form of geodesic cages which is applied to giant fullerenes compound [2]. Fullerenes can be described as closely packed carbon cages hold in rings of, most commonly, hexagons and pentagons with sp2 hydridised carbons. In some larger structure with more than 100 carbons, heptagonal rings may present. A large numbered fullerene will require larger cage to obtain the most least steric angle between the bonds and the structure might have a surface of concaved [4]. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the cage structures of fullerenes C60 and C70. • 22. A Report On The Cleveland Street Workhouse Introduction Pathway, the homeless healthcare charity, is seeking for a property to carry out their homeless people medical respite strategy. The Cleveland Street Workhouse, located the eastern side of Cleveland Street, has become their potential target. However, they do not know whether this place could satisfy their objectives. Therefore, this report is aim to provide a guidance and some suggestions for the clients, to enable them carry out their strategy more easily. Land and property appraisal In this case, the information about this property is not enough to support us making any decisions. For example, THE CLEVELAND STREET WORKHOUSE Document 1(assignment sheet) has mentioned It is generally of poor quality internally and will need significant refurbishment, bearing in mind the listing of the front block . Information like this is too weak to support our strategy and we need some more detailed information. Therefore, I think it is essential to make a Land and property appraisal. This contains a well rounded check of the targeted land and property. Not only it lets us know how much cost is needed to maintain the property at an acceptable standard, but also it helps us to find out the opportunities for adaptation and rationalisation. In short, the Land and property appraisal let us know what to do, in which place, at what time. Is it the fundamental activity to set up a baseline assessment of the targeted land and property. • 25. Ashes By Susan Beth Pfeffer Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer is about a girl who is caught in a situation in which her father attempts to bribe her to do something immoral. One message suggested in this story is how misdirection and trickery can negatively affect relationships between a parent and their child. Throughout the course of the story, the father of the main character is shown feeding his daughter, Ashes, an endless string of compliments such as You re one in a million . He gives her many words of positive reinforcement to try and persuade her to steal money from her mother. He needs this money to pay back some guys, whom of which are after him. As seen in this quote, Ashes father is misdirecting her by sneakily telling her that she made a good decision to offer to help him steal the money. This evidence clearly represents how Ashes father is misleading her with lies and it will most likely reflect in their relationship negatively. A third scene that reflects the idea that manipulation can negatively affect the relationship between a child and their parent is when the story quotes Am I really? I ask, not needing the reassurance. I knew I wasn t a million in one girl,no matter how often Dad told me I was. I still loved hearing him say it. This proves that Ashes appreciates her father s compliments and people generally respond comliently to things they appreciate, so her father understands that complimenting her will be a good persuasion method. When all of this evidence is put together,it is easy to comprehend that manipulation can very easily negatively affect relation between a parent and child. The compliments were told by Ashes father to get what he wanted; money. All of the compliments Ashes father gave to her are doubted by her but nonetheless greeted by open ears. These examples prove that Ashes father was trying to get her to steal her mother s money using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It indicates the signs of psychological disorder for the woman who cuts her thumb. When a thumb is cut, people should cry for it or sad because her thumb is in pain. However, this woman is pleased when her thumb cut. Her thumb cut until her upper thumb fairly disappeared but she feels the pleasure for this. In this case, the incident of cutting thumb seems not an accidental one. God said to Moses, `I AM WHO I AM Torah It is extremely difficult for the average person to understand how a religion that cannot agree on a name for their God could survive. The survival of Judaism for almost 4,000 years with half of its history existing without a homeland, a temple or a common geographical location can be credit to their teaching of the Torah. The word Torah is derived from the verb to guide or to teach 3. Historically Judaism has survived by the older generation teaching the younger generation the heart of their faith carried and communicated through the way, the path and the teachings of the Torah. Torah technically refers to the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. These five books are called Chumash and are divided into 54 portions called a parashah. During the Italian Renaissance, Florence was under constant change and turmoil however David remained a consistent symbol of endless possibilities for the people. For the Florentines, David represented the essence of civic virtue courage, fortitude, and faith (Murray, 39). They also share the commonality of association with the Medici family, a very powerful group of people that loved the arts and was said to have commissioned Donatello for the David sculpture. Later on they became too powerful and the republic forced them out of control, resulting in the creation of another David as a celebration of their triumph. The earlier David stood in the courtyard of the Palazzo della Signoria, which also happened to be the very place that Michelangelo s piece was displayed upon completion. Despite the fact that the David s share time periods, political meanings, and origins, the two sculptures look completely different and evoke very different emotions. Perhaps the most significant difference is found in the choices made by the artists to place their sculpture before or after the battle against Goliath. Donatello s David is portrayed following the victory against the feared adversary. He is full of glory and stands on the head Goliath with his oversized sword clutched in his small hands. Michelangelo takes a different perspective and depicts David in the moment before battle with nothing but his sling in hand. This creates more of a feeling of anticipation and strength of courage. • 34. Application Of The Gauss Newton Method As a final example of the application of the Gauss Newton method, we attempted to find the best fit for a set of data with a sinusoidal function. This example illustrates how the Gauss Newton method can applied to functions with more that just two variables, and that it can be applied to an equation of any form. In it, will attempt to model temperature data with a sinusoidal function. Below is a chart of the average high temperatures per month of the city of Monroe Louisiana (courtesy of weather.com). Month Temperature (Fahrenheit) January 56 February 60 March 69 April 77 May 84 June 90 July 94 August 94 September 88 October 79 November 68 December 58 As can be seen by the chart, this data appears to take the form of a sinusoidal function. Therefore, we will try to fit it with the general form of this function, shown below: y(t)=Aв€ —sin(wв€ —t+phi )+C A is the amplitude, w is the frequency, t is time, phi is the phase and C is a constant. Given this equation there are four unknowns that must be found. In the code, these four variables are represented by the column vector a and are returned in the column vector w. As always, the code requires that we first solve, analytically, for the partial derivatives required for the Jacobian. In this example, the function to be minimized, r, is given by: rk=qkв€’(a1в€ —sin(a2в€ —pk+a3)+a4) where rk is the residual at the particular temperature value, qk is the measured temperature and pk is the month, represented in the code as January = 1, February ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the number of Carbon atoms in a homologous series of simple alcohols increases, there are more bonds that are needed to be broken. For example, ethanol contains one more methylene group (CH2) than methanol. When the ethanol is burnt, it will have one additional C C group and two additional C H bonds to be broken. When the bonds of the C C and C H bonds are broken, this creates an endothermic process and more energy is needed to break the bonds. The stretch of language may be spoken or written. Cohesion therefore is the glue that holds words together. In other words, if an essay is cohesive, it sticks together from sentence to sentence and from paragraph to paragraph. A speaker of English who hears or reads a passage of the language which is more than one sentence in length can normally decide without difficulty whether it forms a unified whole or it is just a collection of unrelated sentences. Although both sides saw accomplishments of military successes, at the end of the war, the bigger economy of the north, centralized government and overpowering manpower would eventually lead to a northern victory. In 1863, it was up in the air because either the Union or the Confederacy could have won the war, but the Confederacy did not have enough manpower to outlast the Union in a drawn out war. However, mankind throughout the centuries has wounded and destroyed nature. If viewed from a broader spectrum, they have been destroying themselves. This shows he is only describing the painting but as he is using the imagery he describes what she was like and how she made him angry. • 42. The Metamorphoses By Ovid s Metamorphoses Ovid s Metamorphoses tells the story of Diana and Actaeon, the goddess of the hunt and a man who unwittingly stumbles upon the sacred grotto of Gargaphia while Diana is bathing with her nymphs. The outraged goddess transforms Actaeon into a stag, and ironically, his own hunting dogs kill him. Rembrandt s painting of Diana, Actaeon, and Callisto is an artistic interpretation of Book III and a bit of Book II of the Metamorphoses, providing a visual insight of the scene that casts Actaeon s unfortunate fate. Rembrandt s still life expresses many Ovidian themes of censorship, chastity, and punishment by the divine hand. Despite superficial differences between the painting and the book, the scene remains true to the myth of Actaeon Diana both visually and thematically. Rembrandt successfully enhances certain Ovidian motifs by adapting imagery, characters, and themes from the writing onto the canvas. Rembrandt s techniques are derived from the Baroque period, using the style as a medium to project qualities of the Metamorphoses myth. Baroque paintings commonly orchestrate colors by contrasting light and shadow, in which this painting explicitly displays with a majority of a dark, almost black, landscape while light tones flood the lower portion, where characters are (Britannica). The color scheme relates to not only the artistic mode, but it also correlates with the text, where the setting is described as deep in the woods that fringed the valley s edge... spread into a ... • 43. The Seagull Symbolism In the play, The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, the main characters Constantine Treplieff, Nina Zarietchnaya and Boris Trigorin are entangled in a love triangle. Treplieff is an aspiring writer who writes plays about dead characters, which contributes to their failure. He lives in the shadow of his famous actress mother Irina Arkadina and her successful boyfriend Trigorin. Nina is a young aspiring actress who is also searching for acceptance. Her father and stepmother disapprove of her actingcareer. Lastly, Trigorin as mentioned before, is a successful writer and the boyfriend of Arkadina. He ultimately has an affair with Nina. The main symbolism in the play is an actual seagull, which is a bird that lives near the sea. In Chekhov s The Seagull, the symbol of the seagull is used to represent Nina Zarietchnaya because of her sense of freedom and security at the lake, her destruction of Constantine Treplieff s heart and her own destruction under Trigorin and their love affair. The symbol the seagull represents Nina, but the symbol changes meaning throughout the play. In Act One, Nina is the seagull by the way she s drawn to the lake during her youth. However, various individuals living in these desolate places have found a solution that seems repulsive to people fortunate enough to live in a first world country; sweatshops. On April 24th, 2013, in Dhaka, a district in central Bangladesh, a sweatshopcollapsed on the workers inside, killing a thousand and injuring over two thousand. People were aghast at the working conditions in sweatshops exposed in this event. However, a woman reporter from a first world country wrote the article; people in third world countries see things very differently. While Ms. Aulakh may have seen the pay as minimal, working conditions as deplorable, and the workers as unfortunate, countless people are desperate to obtain a factory job. In the New York Times Magazine article, Where Sweatshops Are a Dream , offers a view into the garbage dump in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, This is a Dante like vision of hell. It s a mountain of festering refuse, a half hour hike across, emitting clouds of smoke from subterranean fires (Kristof 2009). Countless families live on the garbage dump and earn their living by scavenging for valuable trash. But talk to these families in the dump, and a job in a sweatshop is a cherished dream, an escalator out of poverty, the kind of gauzy if probably unrealistic ambition that parents everywhere often have for their children (Kristof). While people in first world countries see sweatshops as abominable institutions, they are a necessary step for individuals in third world countries to escape poverty, because they provide ...
