Comparing Congeniality And My Fair Lady
As a wise woman often says, There s nothing new under the sun when it comes to literature. This
means that nearly all works written or produced currently have been procured from previously written
stories, though not always intentional. This process is known as intertextualization, which is clearly
noted in the 2000 film Miss Congeniality, derived from the 1964 film My Fair Lady. Intertextuality
has been woven into this movie through similar archetypes, role reversals, and dénouments. In My
Fair Lady, Professor Higgins displays the archetype of a teacher, just as Victor Melling from Miss
Congeniality does. Both of these characters are teaching the leading, female actresses how to become
more proper and lady like. Henry Higgins transforms Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, into a
duchess by teaching her proper english. In the same way, Victor converts Gracie Hart, a masculine
FBI agent from New Jersey, into a scholarship program queen. The teacher archetype is an important
component to the intertextuality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Higgins starts off as the professor, he eventually becomes the student: I ve learned
something from [Eliza s] idiotic notions. Eliza evolves from a poverty stricken, lower class, flower
girl to a proper and stately lady after Henry s teachings. Ultimately, Henry s role of teacher is passed
to Eliza when she says, The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but
how she is treated. In saying this, Eliza shows Henry that since she has changed, he cannot walk all
over her because she [isn t] so deliciously low. So horribly dirty, anymore. An intertextually identical
change happens in Gracie when she changes from the flower girl of the FBI to the beautiful and
graceful pageant girl through Victor s teachings. Her change teaches Victor, the guys in the FBI, and
everyone around her that anything is possible with hard work and

Four Period School Day Controversy
After a schedule change, students and teachers have been having controversy about a four period and
eight period school day. After two years of the new schedule, although calmed down somewhat, the
controversy continues. An eight period school day (traditional schedule) seems to be far outweighed
by a four period school day (block schedule). A four period school day provides academic,
educational, and emotional benefits when compared to an eight period school day. A typical eight
period school day would have eight forty seven minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and
five minutes between each class period, lasting the whole school year (7). A typical four period school
day would have four ninety two minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and seven minutes
between each class period (7). The first four classes go from the middle of August to around the
middle of January, then the next four go from the middle of January to the end of May. At Preston
High School students and teachers were surveyed on stress levels from each schedule. They were also
surveyed on which schedule they thought was more effective for learning. A consensus between all of
the students and teachers agreed that the block schedule was more effective for learning (8). They also
all agreed that an eight period day proved significantly more stressful when compared to their amount
of stress in a four period day (8). A block schedule is very beneficial if it is properly implemented.

HIPAA Discussion Paper
HIPPA Discussion What is the definition of HIPAA? HIPAA is an acronym that stands for the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It is a US law designed to provide privacy standards to
protect patients medical records, as well as other health information provided to Health Plans,
Doctors, Hospitals, and other healthcare providers (Medicinenet.com, 2017). Developed by the
Department of Health and Human Services, this program was designed to give patients better access
to their medical records and more control and how those records are distributed. What forms of
communication are protected with HIPAA guidelines? All forms of communication related to the
patient s information are protected. Those forms of communication may include any information that
is transmitted by computer or other electronic means, telephone, fax, written documentation, audio
recordings (such as telephone voice messages) or other oral communication. This protection extends
to health billing information as well. All healthcare providers and insurance providers are bound to
this privacy act. (Secretary H. O. 2017) What are the exceptions ... Show more content on

guidelines. Another exception would be when it is necessary to comply with law enforcement for
specific medical information requests, such as an emergency request for information during a possible

Strawberry Fields by Miriam Wells
There has been a long standing debate between the socio economic theories of capitalism and
socialism. The current socio economic system is capitalism but many feel it is not ideal due to the fact
that it is based on making a profit. On the other hand, socialism is based on equality of all, which is
enacted by paying all workers the same amount of money regardless of occupation. Miriam J. Wells is
against capitalism and holds a socialist view point. According to Wells, politics shape the advantages
and disadvantages that certain groups of people hold. The government plays an immense role on how
things are structured in the fields in order to make a profit based on capitalism. Wells argument of
capitalism being an unjust system due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wells tries to prove here that not only does the government think about profits but they also think
about who has the power in the agri business. America is usually thought of as the land of equal
opportunity for all , but in fact the government does not provide equal economic opportunities.
Instead, the government helps big business owners exploit their immigrant employees.
Furthermore, Well s argument also shows how even in a capitalist society a system such as
sharecropping can exist and bring with it better class relations that benefit growers and workers. One
reason for the return of sharecropping was due to labor shortages caused by the termination of the
Bracero program. Growers decided to divide their farms into smaller groups which are headed by a
husband and wife; they supervised a couple of workers who were family members or friends. This
enhanced personal connections as personal relationships played a role in order to get a profit out of the
farm allocated. By working alongside family and friends, there was a motivation to perform. Due to
the personal work relations, there was no need of employers/employees. The sharecroppers did not
believe they were superior to their fellow laborers. This shows that even though there is a capitalist
society there was a sense of community. These people are not only thinking about individual profits
but also the profit for their family and friends. This also leads to there being no labor resistance.

Argumentative Essay On Apollo 51
Apollo 51: The Surface of the Moon or a Sound Stage in Nevada ?
It was a long anticipated summer night, when millions of Americans crowded around their bulky
television screens. It was 1969, America had recently passed through the height of the Cold War, but
their relationship with the Soviet Union continued to become more hostile. There was no clear winner
in sight, and America was desperate for a definitive victory, it was this moment, in this very moment
that they finally had one, and they clung to it. This moment was, of course, the Apollo 11 moon
landing on the 20th of July, 1969. However, as with many famous events captured in the public eye, it
wasn t long before conspiracies began to unfold. Some began to question the validity of the
photographs and videos associated with the moon landings, others made claims that the government
couldn t possibly have had the technology necessary to successfully land on the moon, and some even
went as far as to point out the exact set and director that supposedly filmed the hoaxed moon landings.
I first became aware of the conspiracy surrounding the moon landings about two years ago when I
watched a documentary on the topic and naturally, being the patriotic American that I am, I sided with
NASA without considering any evidence on either side of the argument, but recently, the topic was
brought up in conversation and it stuck an interest within me. So in this essay I will throw my
preconceived notions out the metaphorical window,

Get Out Racism Analysis
Get Out Racism
Get out is an American horror film directed by Jordan Peele. The film is based literally on the racism.
A black African young man Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), a photographer and his white girlfriend Rose
(Allison Williams) went to visit her parents house. Chris is worried on the fact that her parents doesn t
know that Chris is black because her parents are liberal racist. Chris finds out that her family has a
black servant who seems like they are forced to do the work or being controlled by their parents.
In the beginning of the scene where deer get hits from the car, the camera literally focuses on Chris
shoes as he walks closer to the deer to find out if the deer is dead or not. Chris is wearing a blue
shoelaces. There is a long history behind what colored shoelaces do you wear and each color has a
specific meaning. For instance, red color shoe laces are used by neo nazi skinheads symbolize that
they had killed someone. But, by researching on blue shoelaces I found out that it is used to symbolize
the opposite that wearing blue shoelace makes someone thinks you are opposing racism(Citation). In
fact, Chris ends up killing Jeremy(Caleb Landry Jones). These red and blue color shoe laces can be
viewed differently throughout the film. What I saw from the film that all the white people are wearing
red on their bodies during the party. However, Logan(Lakeith Stanfield) has a blue fringe around his
hat, which represent that some part of him in his mind. Chris is

The World War II And The Middle East
From the 17th to the 20th centuries, imperialism served a mode of global exploration and expansion of
economic, political and religious influence. Glory was at stake; the opportunity to expound upon their
influence on the balance of power galvanized most of Europe to explore and colonize Central Europe,
Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. In the period of European imperialism, imperialism served as
conveyer of status and power in world affairs; the more imperialist territory, a more powerful nation
state. Arbitrary boundaries and imperialist expansion into the unknown earth continued until the end
of World War II. This disintegration of imperial empires came to be because of the mission of World
War II and the weakness of the imperial power post war. As John Green says, In part, the Allies were
fighting to stop Nazi imperialism. The Allied defeat of the Nazis discredited the whole of an empire
for the future (Crash Course). The Allies could not reasonably defeat a permutation of an imperialist
empire and then expect its colonies to return to a system of imperialist empires. As well, the power of
the major imperial states (Britain, France, Japan) diminished after World War II, so their ability to
upkeep their territorial control lessened. Therefore, Central Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East
broke off from direct territorial control into independent states. What this means for modern day
policy is that imperialist empires are no longer a goal of nation states.

Dbq Compromise Of 1860 Essay
During the 1820s to 1860s, Americans dealt with many political disputes throughout the country. The
early nineteenth century was a period of growth and development until citizens discovered that
threatening issues would soon affect them significantly. The founding fathers established a
compromise that would attempt to unite the nation. However, slavery was an ongoing issue that
eventually led to Compromise in the middle nineteenth century. Agreements were extremely hard to
attain due to the political intolerance and problems regarding slavery. Ethical and social viewpoints of
slavery caused the split of the North and South. Compromise eventually collapsed causing America to
suffer. In spite of the fact that repercussions of the Era of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reform movements began in order to gain rights such as the abolitionist movement. Abolitionism is
the act of ending slavery. William Lloyd Garrison s newspaper, The Liberator called for instant
emancipation of slaves. Other influential figures, like Fredrick Douglas was part of the abolitionist
movement as well. After Harriet Beecher Stowe s, Uncle Toms Cabin was published, the abolition
movement in the North infuriated many. Similarly, the South began individual efforts that opposed
abolition. The Herald M Georgia strongly disapproved people in the North, by declaring that
Northerners were a devoid of society fitted for well bred southern gentleman. (Doc F). Complications
in compromise had risen due to the moral and social division of slavery. Daniel Webster identified the
intensity of an issue by saying it was a moral impossibility to possess peaceful secession. (Doc D). In
1858, Lincoln addressed a serious matter that resulted in a disruption of other political parties. (Doc

Vitiligo Research Paper
Melanin is an important part of the body that is produced by melanocytes. Melanin gives the hair,
skin, and eyes color as well as protects the body from the ultra violet rays that radiate from the sun.
The amount of melanin in the body determines the complexion of the skin. Vitiligo occurs when these
important melanocytes die in patches around the body. This differs from the aging process, when
melanocytes stop producing melanin which results in white or gray hair. Vitiligo is a non contagious,
non life threatening condition which causes a discoloration of the skin that appears over time, but does
not go away. Most people say this condition is painless, but some report itching, and pain. This
condition affects millions of people around the world, proportionately between men and women, and
can be present in any given race, although it is more apparent in darker skin ... Show more content on

Vitiligo does not happen over night, the skin discoloration whitens over time with cycles of cessation
and progressive whitening. Early precursors to vitiligo include premature whitening of the hair on the
scalp , loss of color in the mucosa, loss of color or change in the retina. According to the American
Academy of Dermatology, generalized vitiligo often begins on hands, fingertips, wrists, around the
eyes or mouth, or on the feet.
The diagnosis of this condition is usually achieved with a complete family history and a physical
examination of the skin. A complete family history can rule out causes of skin discoloration such as
psoriasis. Upon physical examination the doctor may use a lamp called Wood s lamp, which shines
ultra violet light to see any discoloration that may be occurring that is not yet apparent to the naked
eye. Topical creams, medicines, lotions, or sunblock should not be applied prior to the examination as
it could distort any

Comparison of Ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian Art
The artworks of Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt are both strikingly different and similar at
the same time. Consistent is the theme of serving the different gods the two cultures believed in. In
Mesopotamia the various city states each had their own protective deity, and in Egypt they sometimes
differed from one dynasty to the next. Whatever the case, with the beginning of kingdoms and
rulership came the need to justify a position of power and establish a hierarchy. And as more time
passed came also the human need to leave an impression on their world. Looking at the example of the
statues of Gudea from the Neo Sumerian period and the Temple of Ramses II from the New Kingdom
of Egypt in the 19th dynasty, will show how both rulers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Guarding the entrance to the 100 feet tall temple are four enormous statues of the Pharaoh, who ruled
for roughly 66 years during the 19th dynasty. Each statue stands 67 feet high and depicts Ramses
seated on his throne, wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. Adorning the sides of the
thrones is the symbolic unification of Egypt by the Nile Gods. The whole upper body of one of the
figures is destroyed, damaged by an ancient earthquake. You can still see the remains of the torso and
head at the base near the feet. Statues of Ramses mother Mut Tuy, principal wife Nefertari, and son,
Prince Amonherkhepshef, stand at his sides, almost as high as his knees, and smaller statues between
his legs are thought to represent either his daughters or lesser wives. The frieze topping the temple
facade shows 22 baboons worshipping the sun. The recessed statue above the entrance is that of the
falcon headed Ra Harakhti (associated with Horus) and is flanked by two Bas reliefs of Ramses,
presumably worshipping him. Three connected halls inside the temple dig 185 feet deep into the
mountain, where pictures of the King s grand accomplishments can be seen covering the walls. The
temple was completed near the 24th year

International criminal court Essays
ICC and America
Over the past few years, the International Criminal Court (ICC or the Court ) has been igniting
controversy the world over. As more countries rallied behind it, more objections have been made,
particularly from Americans, regarding what many view as fundamental flaws. I have chosen two
papers to compare and contrast the different viewpoints taken by the authors when reflecting upon
America s involvement with the ICC. One calls for total rejection of the ICC, the other weighs the
risks and benefits and calls for revision but acceptance.
The first article, entitled National Constitutional Compatibility and the International Criminal Court ,

She suggests a combination of the two approaches.
Besides posing a threat to America s sovereignty, some aspects of the ICC pose a threat to the rights of
American citizens. Many legal protections that Americans are entitled to under our constitution have
no place so far in the ICC s treaty. Dempsey points out that the prohibition against double jeopardy,
the right to trial by an impartial jury, and the right of the accused to confront the witnesses against him
are American legalities not present in the ICC, and by agreeing to hand over our nationals for trial in
an internationally regulated courtroom we are denying them these constitutional rights and
participating in an unconstitutional act.
Duffy imparts to us that although there are numerous flaws still present in the ICC, only time will
smooth them out, and until then we are in a position only to work with it. In an unprecedented move in
international law, the ICC states that it will bind to the

When I was in grade school I had teachers that would reward students for good grades and positive
behavior thus making it more likely for us to work hard to do better. I remember receiving candy, a
material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity passes, an activity
reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I was allowed to skip an
activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game instead. Or sometimes, those who
did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to lunch early which also meant a longer
recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced my work ethic so that I was studying more
and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed as I went through school that my work ethic
strengthened the more positive reinforcement I received. If I began to slip, and my effort level
decreased then I would receive negative reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a
secondary reinforcer. This would then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same
low grade as before. The consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped
the way I behaved in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not
performing as well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades. One particular example of
Operant Conditioning I remember from my early education was when my father promised my class

harder than we had before to achieve a perfect score on our test. We ended up making our goal and

Negative Effects Of Cosmetic Surgery On Society
Cosmetic surgery is used to restore, recreate, or modification of the human body. Over 4000 years ago
reports of cosmetic surgery trends ended the region. The first report of surgery was done in India by an
Indian doctor. Later, these reports progressed in different parts of the world. However, in 1916, world
war soldier and sailor Walter Yao suffered terrible facial injuries, including the loss of his upper and
lower eyelids. By 1917, he received treatment from Sir Harold Gillies and became the first man to use
the skin to replace damaged or remove extra skin. Later, Sir Harold Gillies became known as the
father of plastic surgery, thus impacting the world for years to come. Although cosmetic surgery is

Olaudah Equiano And The Abolitionist Movement
One example of a black individual who was a significant influence on the abolitionist movement was
Olaudah Equiano (also known as Gustavus Vassa) a freed slave that spoke about his terrifying life
story which helped contribute towards the end of the slave trade. Equiano was born in 1736 and
bought his freedom as a slave in 1767. Equiano began his involvement in the abolitionist movement in
the 1780 s when he published his best selling book The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah
Equiano or Gustavus Vassa, the African in 1789. At the time, many Britons thought Africans were

Douglass was introduced to the movement in 1841 when a man named William Coffin heard one of
his speeches at an anti slavery meeting and was so impressed with his oratorical skills that Coffin
invited him to share his story as a slave in a convention organised by the Massachusetts Anti Slavery
Society (MAS). This therefore supports my previous discussion that black people could contribute to
society and live normal lives without white people diminishing their human rights and privileges and
making them slaves.
Douglass got his passion to promote freedom for all slaves after he escaped from slavery and
ultimately had an end goal to abolish slavery in all its forms and aspects, and promote the moral and
intellectual improvement of the coloured people and hasten the day of freedom to the three million of
enslaved fellow countrymen . He also wrote several autobiographies describing his experiences as a
slave. One of the autobiographies in particular, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an
American Slave published in 1845 was a best selling and was extremely influential for promoting the
cause of abolition. The narrative shows a compelling argument to basic human rights thus making it
extremely influential as the narrative clearly possesses features and linguistic skills, which for most
white people, negated their common perception of black people being illiterate in the 19th century.

Mediation Stay Neutral And Remain Neutral
Introduction
Facilitative mediation is one of the sub types of the problem solving method, deriving from to
facilitate or to mediate between two parties, its style largely used from the 1960 70s it is one of the
original models which was generally and extensively used in the USA. The intent is to critically gauge
this style of mediation, and weigh arguments for and against, to analyse if the model is relevant today.
Questioning can this style of mediation stay neutral and remain in a guidance format only or does it
cross over into other styles of mediation.

Some mediators have classified themselves either facilitative or evaluative or in between depending
on the parties circumstance. However, Riskins conception of this grid was to try and make some sense
of the mediator s approach, can the facilitative mediator stay fixed in their style. The grid illustrated a
meeting point of two lines; one representing the mediator s concept of his role, and the other the
mediator s approach to the problem. When these two lines intersect, there are four quadrants which
represent different mediation situations. Riskin stated that the four quadrants each represent a general
location toward mediation: evaluative narrow, facilitative narrow, evaluative broad and facilitative
broad.
The Facilitative Narrow mediator will use past cases, skill and strategies in order to help the parties be
realistic about their conflict, underlining their strengths and weaknesses, and credible outcomes, using
experience, and techniques learned in order to bring focus back to a discussion. They will not asses or
offer suggestions, and allow the parties through shared interest to develop open discussion to reaching

Suicide In Me Before You, By Jojo Moyes
People all have their own opinions about suicide and reasons to commit it, but could an author create a
story to convince readers that suicide is okay? In the book Me Before You, Jojo Moyes has two main
characters who have different opinions about this topic. Will Traynor wants to commit suicide and
Louisa Clark is trying to prevent him from doing so. This created a lot of controversy in the book
itself from both sides of the argument. People should have the right to commit suicide when disabled
disadvantaged mentally or physically. In the book Me Before You, Jojo Moyes emphasizes the
importance of having euthanasia as an option for ending your life when disabled.
Moyes argues that disabled people cannot live life happily after having great experiences while active.

A Thousand Splendid Suns
In a nation brimming with discrimination, violence and fear, a multitudinous number of hearts will
become malevolent and unemotional. However, people will rebel. In the eye opening novel, A
Thousand Splendid Suns written by Khaled Hosseini, the country of Afghanistan is exposed to possess
cruel, treacherous and sexist law and people. The women are classified as something lower than
human, and men have the jurisdiction over the women. At the same time, the most horrible treatment

risking his acrimony if he were to discover her theft. However, Laila is stealing for a very good cause,
which would benefit both herself, and Aziza. Similarly, Mariam exhibits her attribute of being bold as

the room where he d locked Zalmai? Had Miriam been certain that he would be satisfied with shooting

in Rasheed s eyes she saw murder for them both. And so Mariam raised the shovel high, raised it as
high as she could, arching it so it touched the small of her back. She turned it so the sharp edge was
vertical, and, as she did, it occurred to her that this was the first time that she was deciding the course
of her own life. And, with that, Mariam brought down the shovel.

Magnesium Oxide Lab
Objective/hypothesis
The objective/purpose of this lab is to determine the amount of oxygen needed to react with Mg to
form ionic oxide and find out the correct formula for the compound. The expected outcome of this lab
is that 3Mg + N2=Mg3N2. Oxygen in the air is reacted with magnesium in the crucible. The masses
before and after the oxidation are measured. The calculated masses are then used to find out the
experimental empirical formula of magnesium oxide. A Bunsen burner will be used to heat
magnesium metal. The experiment relates because we are determine the formula for magnesium

A Veteran Banned From Military Housing
Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherd dogs mark 100 years with the AKC. Both German
Shepherds and Dobermans were the Devil Dogs in WWII (Mahood). Both dog breeds have given
years of service to the military. Both dogs have been faithful loyal companions and incredibly
intelligent. Both dogs are ranked in the top five for obedience and working intelligence ( Dog
intelligence rankings ). Yet, the German Shepherd is currently the military police s working dog and
its veteran companion, the Doberman Pinscher, is currently banned from living in military bases. How
is breed banning fair or even effective? In January 5th 2009, the Department of the Army released a

U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association
(AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an
inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that a
comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a
community (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any
breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87 year old
woman ( 2005 dog bite fatalities ). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered
dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed
identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials think it looks
like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so
called dangerous breeds. For example, a Labrador Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but
are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like Rottweilers. The deciding
factor is not breed, it is ownership. Irresponsible ownership in the form of poor care, neglect, etc.
results in a potentially dangerous dog. Irresponsible owners will just get a dog that is not banned

An Essay On The Natural By Bernard Malamud
The choices that we make today will impact our tomorrow. Whether we realize it or not, every single
time we do something, we are making a choice. Many of these choices are subliminal, such as the
direction we walk or the way we carry ourselves, but some choices impact the way people look at us.
More importantly, some choices impact how successful we are in various things. I chose to write
about choices because choices are single handedly the most important thing in the world. Everything
we do on a daily basis is a choice, and choices are important to me as a person because they are
something I am trying to get better at. The choices made in preparation for assorted events are

As people always say, Hindsight is 20/20 , but if we would look forward in time and plan instead of
making gut decisions, making better decisions and choices would definitely be easier to do. Robert
Frost said it best in his poem, The Road Not Taken , when he said, Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim (Frost). This shows that when Frost got to a fork in the road, he
sat down and evaluated both options before making a selection. He looked at the path on the left and
then the path on the right so he would know exactly which choice to make and how that choice would
work for him. This applies to everybody. When there is a big choice to be made, we need to evaluate
every option and then look into the future to see how the options will benefit us later. If at the time a
choice seems perfect, but there is no future benefit, why make that choice? If everybody has a
common goal to be the best person that they can be and to be as successful as they can in life, the
choice that is made needs to be a thirty day or thirty year decision, not a thirty second decision. Choice
is defined as the act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities .
Choices are not optional. We do not even know we are making a choice most of the time. Every
second we make a choice. We make a choice of what to look at, listen to, or even

The Importance Of Clinical Reasoning And Judgement In The...
Clinical Reasoning and Judgement in The Nursing Process
Critical thinking and clinical reasoning are essential skills to develop a sound clinical judgement.
Nurses use critical thinking models and processes to support and organize the interventions that they
perform in the clinical setting. In the scenario of Mr. Patient requesting for a Do Not Resuscitate order,
I used the nursing process to serve as the framework of the patient care and the Lasater s Clinical
Judgment Rubric by Kathie Lasater (2007) to guide my reflection. In this paper, I will describe the
skills that were used in relation to the nursing process, provide analysis of the model and application
of learning in terms of CNO competencies, and evaluate my clinical decision making in terms of
patient outcomes. While, the nursing process, served as a guide to organize my thought process in
relation to the overall picture of the patient, I also incorporated thinking structures such as ABC and
Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs to determine the prioritization in each activity. Furthermore, I utilized
the Structured Prebriefing Worksheet by Karin Page Cutrara (2015) to make inferences from the data
before engaging in the scenario.
Clinical Reasoning Skills in Scenario
The main clinical issue in the scenario is the need of a Do Not Resuscitate order by the client. In the
pre briefing process, I predicted that the patient needs medication to reduce his chronic pain related to
his previous medical history of prostate cancer and transurethral resection of prostate. Using the
nursing process, I am able to systematically assess and deliver appropriate interventions to the patient.
I prioritize his chronic pain over his feelings, based on the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. As I
complete his physical assessment, I noticed that his pain level is the only variable that is out of the
normal limits. I examined his pain in detail using the PQRST pain assessment tool. I tried to look for
more gaps in my assessment when I inquire about his feelings in which I learned that patient would
like to have a DNR order.
In the planning phase, the health care team had a discussion about prioritization. On one hand, the
patient s pain level is eight out of ten that needed

Benefits Of Genetic Engineering
The field of genetic engineering is an incredibly growing one and it proves to be a topic of constant

Several documents have been published, and experiments tested to support both sides of the spectrum,
but follow of the trend of supporting genetic engineering. While certain aspects put some moral codes
into question, genetic engineering is beneficial to humanity because will lead to a more understanding
and capable society, can be used as a route to incredible possibilities, and it provides people with
better opportunities. Many who attempt to take a stance on genetic engineering are unaware of what it
actually is, and therefore are unable to make a proper argument. There have been several instances in
which a debate has taken place over the topic, yet half of those who participated did not have a proper
understanding of it. In a study taken place to measure the general biomedical and genetic literacy in
the U.S and Europe, results showed that the US came in at the middle rank of 28th among the 34
countries studied (Source F). From this it can be concluded that many of those who attend these sort of
events are not entirely informed and if they were to be informed it would lead to an overall sense of
understanding. Therefore, genetic engineering is beneficial in the way that it will allow for people to
be able to have more capability. Genetics is a field where the

Mobile Phones
Brief Description of how mobile phones work:
A mobile phone is a device that allows for two people to be connected over the world by a radio link.
This is done by connecting to a cellular network, which is provided by telecommunication companies
such as Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone being the three main in Australia. Once the cellular network is
established it then connects to a cell, which is a tower, then the other phone. If the phone is out of
reach from one the original tower the cell may transfer the call to another cell, this process is now so
efficient and fast that both caller and receiver would never notice that this has taken place. This uses
electromagnetic waves between substation to substation this is a combined technology of radio and the

Compare And Contrast Senate And House
The Senate and the house both have very important committees that take care of many things for the
United States. Each committee is responsible for taking care of specific work that belongs to them. An
important and prestigious committee in the Senate that I decided to take a look into is the Judicial
committee. On the other side of things for the House of Representatives I decided to look into the
committee of Foreign Affairs. Both of these committees are not only important to their respective

the issues that they are in charge of. For example, they have continuously discussed how to combat
crime. Senator Feinstein cosponsored a bill that has put over 114,000 additional cops in the streets of
this nation in order to help fight the crime in this nation. Another big issue that this committee faces
with is immigration reforms. For decades this nation has had different perspectives on undocumented
people that are within this country. Some people want to help them become documented workers by
offering citizenship, visas, or other methods while other people do not. This is an ongoing matter that
will continue to be talked about for many years to come not only in the Judiciary committee, but also
by the people of this country. The jurisdiction of Foreign Affairs in the House will have an oversight
on many different issues that include: foreign assistance, the peace corps, international law, promotion
in democracy, and as well as many other matters. A huge issue that they are currently facing is how to
defeat ISIS. This members within the committee have been wanting to do whatever possible to stop
the current execution of Christians and help the people who are combatting ISIS in the middle east,

The Similarities Between Classical Music and Ellington s Jazz
One of the greatest tragedies in the 20th century can be seen in the debasing of the Jazz genre as a
unworthy equal to it s predecessor, European Classical music. This can be seen in various statements
about Jazz, such as Boris Gibalin commit, The Jazz Mania has taken on the character of a lingering
illness and must be cured by means of forceful intervention. 1 This conflict can be traced through out
the history of Jazz, as Classical composers have relatively disregarded this new type of music. Before
Duke Ellington s Cotton Club performances, Jazz play on the radio was delegated for late night

To most people the infusion of African tonality into Duke Ellington s music to create Negro art ,
questions the connection between European music and Jazz. Here Constant Lambert responds to this.
If anyone doubts the essential element of European sophistication in Jazz, it is a simple matter for his
to compare a typical piece of Jazz, such as Duke Ellington Swampy River, first with a lyric by Grieg
and then with a record of African music. It must be clear to even the most prejudiced listener that apart
from a few rhythmical peculiarities the Ellington piece has far more in common with the music of
Grieg 6
One must understand that even when Duke infused the two tonalities of music; he still was obligated
to work within guidelines of the European Harmonic tradition.7 Yet by him keeping with this tradition
he is not obligated to write music in the form of previous composers such as Stravinsky, Mozart, or
Bach, for to do that would delegate Ellington s music as a duplicate work. Here is the contradiction,
for no Classical composer has ever been chastise for creativity in their sound, and yet how do you
explain the criticism of Ellington s work? The intentional fusing of African and European tonality is
nothing more than a continuation of numerous inventive techniques used by musicians as seen in the
changing sounds and techniques of Classical music over time? Thus to criticize Duke for his
originality one would also have

Military Advantage
Tuition Assistance in the Military: Is it Worth it? College nowadays is expensive. Too expensive for
any student to be able to pay without applying for countless scholarships, hoping they can win just
enough to push themselves through, or taking out incredibly large loans and going into debt to further
their education. However, there is a more reliable, more financially stable option. Students struggling
with paying for college should join the military. Although the military is a potentially dangerous and
life changing option, it is one of the better ways to get yourself through college, and set yourself up for
future job opportunities. As well as coverage of most college expenses, the military provides a
multitude of other benefits, including experience that is easily utilized in the civilian world. Although
there is danger associated with joining the military, the benefits far outweigh the costs. Especially with
the many benefits and privileges that come along with it. The main reason many people would join the

college tuition over 4 years can range anywhere from $9.4k to $32.4k. Most college students, if

The Great White Fleet was a powerful battle fleet sent off by Theodore Roosevelt on a round the globe
journey dating from December of 1907 to February 1909. The fleet was four squadrons of warships;

than the visual appeal and to hide mechanical errors contained in the engine rooms. All were manned
by 14,000 sailors and marines and traveled 43,000 miles. The fleet made twenty port calls on six
different continents. The hopes for the effect this battle fleet would cause were mostly about America s

enjoyment visitors had. Young also created a wagon road with his troops that led to the Giant Forest,

Moro Rock was a granite dome rock. They had also protected the park from poachers and from

Sex Is While Some Take Sex
Many wonder what sex is while some take sex to an extreme. So let s start with defining sex. people
define Sex in different ways. It can include vaginal, oral, and anal sex. (Source 1) There are many
different ideas of about what sex can be such as Vaginal penis in vagina intercourse, Oral sex mouth to
genital contact, Anal Sex penis in anus intercourse, fingering or handjob hand to genital contact, and
masturbation. Most people are more fond of Vaginal intercourse than any of the other types. Now
everyone knows the simple positions for vaginal intercourse, but what about some of the complex
ones. The more complex ones will get you more aroused but the male will go off quicker though.
Some examples are: the waterfall, the hot seat, spin cycle, stairway to heaven, and the pretzel. (Source
5)
Just like you rely on gestures and surprises in romance, you need to help the excitement alive in bed,
too. Just as sex can become predictable so can foreplay. So here are a few ideas to spice things up: try
things outside the bedroom, sext each other, learn to kiss more passionately, slow down explore each
other s body, and dirty talk to each other. (source 3)
Simple vaginal intercourse is sometimes enough for people but for others not so much. Many people
like Rough sex and prefer it over regular sex. Someone may ask well, What is Rough Sex? Rough Sex
is the type of sex where you involve pain in the sexual act, to increase sexual pleasure! (Source 2) It is

Summary Of Patterns By Amy Lowell Patterns
Amy Lowell was a leader of the Imagists movement. She was influenced by John Keats and gathered
a selection of his works. Lowell began to write after her brothers published books of their own, but
she focused on poetry. The detail in Lowell s poetry related to describing and environment or a person
could help the reader better understand what is happening in the poem and include the reader as if they
were actually there experiencing what the narrator or speaker is experiencing. Her choices develop a
bigger picture than what the poem is actually saying. Amy Lowell helped to change the thought
process when reading poetry. Amy Lowell s Patterns is a very good example of imagery being used to
draw the reader s attention. This poem is filled with so many bright and vivid colors and different
moods that it attracts the reader. Each stanza shows a different scene or a different moment in the
same area and exuding different emotions to share that moment and feeling. The first two stanzas and
the last three stanzas are in the present, while the third and fourth stanzas are flashbacks or memories
she is having as she remembers her lost lover. The title Patterns refers to the gown that the speaker is
wearing, the different flowers in the garden, the paths that are in the garden, and the war that the
speaker mentions towards the end of the poem. In the first stanza, the speaker is walking through the
garden and she notices the wind blowing on the flowers causing them to move or sway. She continues
walking through the garden in her stiff but beautifully embroidered gown. She has white hair and a fan
embellished with jewels. She states that she has a unique design. The mood in this stanza seems calm
or content but a little uncomfortable. The second stanza she is still walking along the path in the
garden and her train is dragging on the ground behind her covering the path and the plants along the
sides. Her ensemble is currently in style and so are her shoes. She only shows confidence while
wearing her corset and gown. She slowly takes a seat under the lime tree, although the corset makes it
difficult and uncomfortable to sit, she sits anyway. She watches the flowers swing in the breeze

American Identity Examples
An American Identity Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave. O er the land and of the free,
and the home of the brave. These words from our beloved national anthem, are words that this country
chooses to live by. Ladies and gentlemen will remove their caps, and then all rise for the playing of the
Star Spangled Banner. Most Americans have become comfortable about this right and pleasure that we
have. To be able to show respect for the ones who aren t here, and can t even stand to do so. One
professional American football player had another agenda for this time. He decided to kneel instead of

In the fourteen years that I have been on this Earth, America has been very fortunate. Of course we
have has very tragic things happen, but none that I can remember vividly. I asked my grandma if she
could remember where she was and what she was doing when 9/11 occurred. ASK GRANDMA
ABOUT 9/11. It s times like that, that i have never experienced for myself, and I am grateful that I
haven t. Though, when Colin Kaepernick didn t stand to show his respect, it hit me like a ton of

countries that would hunt him down for doing this. Someone else died so that you could do what you

Glory In The Iliad
The Iliad, written by Homer, is a war poem translated by Robert Fagles. The epic poem features many
of the Greek gods and goddesses as they manipulate mortals in the battle for Troy. While the mortals
may be controlled by the gods, everyone is susceptible to the struggle of obtaining glory. Zeus is the
god who decides to side with the Trojans, giving them power and encouraging them to fight off the
Achaean army. The other gods see him trying to give an unfair advantage to the Trojans, and step in.
Despite his attempts, he is ultimately unable to defeat the Achaeans and is enraged because of the lack
of glory he receives. The mortals on the other hand are unaware that the gods are supporting them, yet,
they themselves want to fight for glory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wars are often dragged on for years, when they can end much sooner. The real problem arises from
the fact that many soldiers, or warriors in this case, get caught up in the fine details that happen on the
battlefields. These minuscule details of actions that take place lead to fighting passionately, which
only blinds the soldier from carrying out the intended mission. As Poseidon takes the form of Thoas,
he tries to get the Argives to fight the proper way. Poseidon believes he can get get Idomeneus and his
men to fight better than the Trojans, who are the worst cowards, banded together, have their power but
you and I have got the skill to fight their best! (13.281 2) Nothing gets accomplished when Zeus is
involved other than equal amounts of casualties on both the Trojan and Achaean armies. He decides
his actions without rationality and this leads nowhere. His passion and lust for glory trickles down
onto the mortals he controls. Neither Trojans nor Achaeans show a clear advancement due their
passionate strategies. By Poseidon stepping in, he provides insight to the Achaeans that there s more to
life then dying over others, and rational thinking is necessary for battle. Acting rationally is also
evident during the funeral games for Patroclus. As everyone lines up for the chariot races, Antilochus
is the last on the line, with the slowest horses. Yet, his slow horses aren t the

Wondrous Wetlands Ecology Summary
Wondrous Wetlands Ecology Summary
SUMMARY
Wondrous Wetlands is an article about the conservation department of Missouri finding ways to save
wetlands for future generations. Those who are directly impacted by wetlands are those who enjoy
things such as hunting and wildlife watching, but can affect everyone, because wetlands contribute to
the clean water that we drink and even cycling nutrients in our environment. When wetlands began to
diminish in the 1980 s, conservationists realized there was a problem when they saw waterfowl
populations diminishing. The department then developed a plan to develop more wetlands to try and
save the populations, which was known as the 1989 Wetland Plan. The wetland plan developed an

I really enjoyed how the article talked about the plans that the state of Missouri is working on to keep
waterfowl populations around as well as all other organisms that live in a wetland environment. I think
that it is so true that so many are forgetting about how important ecosystems such as this one is to the
survival of many. We as a human species have gotten so wrapped up in our smart phones and
computers that many of us forget the beauty that the outside world holds.
One piece of information that really stood out to me in this article was that since the advance of
technology used to study wetlands has grown, we now can determine what kinds of plants will grow
in just a few inches of water and who will benefit from it. Since contour maps were replaced with
computer mapping software they can now also determine small changes in elevation that also affect
organisms and where they can be found. Even though it will take time to fix many of the populations
that were affected by the decline of wetlands, I am glad to see that there is a plan in place to try and
preserve these areas for future generations as well as needing them for our

The Building Sector Affects The Society
Executive Summary
The building sector affects the society in various ways: economically, socially, naturally, and built
environmentally. In a more direct or indirect manner, the various building activities including designs,
construction, use, refurbishments, as well as demolition of the buildings affects the environmental
performance differently. In bringing environmental issue into the context, it is true that a feature of
environmentally sustainable is not only comfortable to occupy, but also consume small amount of
energy. Studies argue that the major goal of sustainable design involves reducing or ultimately
eliminating depletion of natural resources and degradation of environment due to the infrastructures
and facilities made by man. Although various factors are barriers, this situation calls for a better ways
of approaching the building activities that are environmentally sustainable. Building policies plays
critical role in reducing environmental impacts although little research has been done as far as this
sector is concerned. These policies should focus on codes for environmental sustainability of building
designs that establishes better planning practices, designing as well as constructing buildings with
environmental concerns of the impacts of the build structures (Davies, 2004).

DAVID RICARDO THE COMARATIVE AND ABSOLUTE ADVANTAGE
David Ricardo was one of those rare people who achieved both tremendous success and lasting fame.
After his family disinherited him for marrying outside his Jewish faith, Ricardo made a fortune as a
stockbroker and loan broker. When he died, his estate was worth more than $100 million in today s
dollars. At age twenty seven, after reading Adam Smith s The Wealth of Nations, Ricardo got excited
about economics. He wrote his first economics article at age thirty seven and then spent the following
fourteen years his last ones as a professional economist.
Ricardo first gained notice among economists over the bullion controversy. In 1809 he wrote that

Think again. Poorland s cost of producing wine, although higher than Richland s in terms of hours of
labor, is lower in terms of bread. For every bottle produced, Poorland gives up half of a loaf, while
Richland has to give up three loaves to make a bottle of wine. Therefore, Poorland has a comparative
advantage in producing wine. Similarly, for every loaf of bread it produces, Poorland gives up two
bottles of wine, but Richland gives up only a third of a bottle. Therefore, Richland has a comparative
advantage in producing bread.
If they exchange wine and bread one for one, Poorland can specialize in producing wine and trading
some of it to Richland, and Richland can specialize in producing bread. Both Richland and Poorland
will be better off than if they had not traded. By shifting, say, ten hours of labor out of producing
bread, Poorland gives up the one loaf that this labor could have produced. But the reallocated labor
produces two bottles of wine, which will trade for two loaves of bread. Result: trade nets Poorland one
additional loaf of bread. Nor does Poorland s gain come at Richland s expense. Richland gains also, or
else it would not trade. By shifting three hours out of producing wine, Richland cuts wine production
by one bottle but increases bread production by three loaves. It trades two of these loaves for Poorland
s two bottles of wine. Richland has

  • 2. Comparing Congeniality And My Fair Lady As a wise woman often says, There s nothing new under the sun when it comes to literature. This means that nearly all works written or produced currently have been procured from previously written stories, though not always intentional. This process is known as intertextualization, which is clearly noted in the 2000 film Miss Congeniality, derived from the 1964 film My Fair Lady. Intertextuality has been woven into this movie through similar archetypes, role reversals, and dénouments. In My Fair Lady, Professor Higgins displays the archetype of a teacher, just as Victor Melling from Miss Congeniality does. Both of these characters are teaching the leading, female actresses how to become more proper and lady like. Henry Higgins transforms Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, into a duchess by teaching her proper english. In the same way, Victor converts Gracie Hart, a masculine FBI agent from New Jersey, into a scholarship program queen. The teacher archetype is an important component to the intertextuality ... In saying this, Eliza shows Henry that since she has changed, he cannot walk all over her because she [isn t] so deliciously low. So horribly dirty, anymore. • 3. Four Period School Day Controversy After a schedule change, students and teachers have been having controversy about a four period and eight period school day. After two years of the new schedule, although calmed down somewhat, the controversy continues. An eight period school day (traditional schedule) seems to be far outweighed by a four period school day (block schedule). A four period school day provides academic, educational, and emotional benefits when compared to an eight period school day. A typical eight period school day would have eight forty seven minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and five minutes between each class period, lasting the whole school year (7). A typical four period school day would have four ninety two minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and seven minutes between each class period (7). The first four classes go from the middle of August to around the middle of January, then the next four go from the middle of January to the end of May. At Preston High School students and teachers were surveyed on stress levels from each schedule. They were also surveyed on which schedule they thought was more effective for learning. A consensus between all of the students and teachers agreed that the block schedule was more effective for learning (8). They also all agreed that an eight period day proved significantly more stressful when compared to their amount of stress in a four period day (8). A block schedule is very beneficial if it is properly implemented. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a US law designed to provide privacy standards to protect patients medical records, as well as other health information provided to Health Plans, Doctors, Hospitals, and other healthcare providers (Medicinenet.com, 2017). Developed by the Department of Health and Human Services, this program was designed to give patients better access to their medical records and more control and how those records are distributed. What forms of communication are protected with HIPAA guidelines? All forms of communication related to the patient s information are protected. Those forms of communication may include any information that is transmitted by computer or other electronic means, telephone, fax, written documentation, audio recordings (such as telephone voice messages) or other oral communication. • 6. Strawberry Fields by Miriam Wells There has been a long standing debate between the socio economic theories of capitalism and socialism. The current socio economic system is capitalism but many feel it is not ideal due to the fact that it is based on making a profit. On the other hand, socialism is based on equality of all, which is enacted by paying all workers the same amount of money regardless of occupation. Miriam J. Wells is against capitalism and holds a socialist view point. According to Wells, politics shape the advantages and disadvantages that certain groups of people hold. The government plays an immense role on how things are structured in the fields in order to make a profit based on capitalism. Wells argument of capitalism being an unjust system due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wells tries to prove here that not only does the government think about profits but they also think about who has the power in the agri business. America is usually thought of as the land of equal opportunity for all , but in fact the government does not provide equal economic opportunities. Instead, the government helps big business owners exploit their immigrant employees. Furthermore, Well s argument also shows how even in a capitalist society a system such as sharecropping can exist and bring with it better class relations that benefit growers and workers. One reason for the return of sharecropping was due to labor shortages caused by the termination of the Bracero program. Growers decided to divide their farms into smaller groups which are headed by a husband and wife; they supervised a couple of workers who were family members or friends. This enhanced personal connections as personal relationships played a role in order to get a profit out of the farm allocated. By working alongside family and friends, there was a motivation to perform. Due to the personal work relations, there was no need of employers/employees. The sharecroppers did not believe they were superior to their fellow laborers. This shows that even though there is a capitalist society there was a sense of community. These people are not only thinking about individual profits but also the profit for their family and friends. This also leads to there being no labor resistance. Workers ... It was a long anticipated summer night, when millions of Americans crowded around their bulky television screens. It was 1969, America had recently passed through the height of the Cold War, but their relationship with the Soviet Union continued to become more hostile. There was no clear winner in sight, and America was desperate for a definitive victory, it was this moment, in this very moment that they finally had one, and they clung to it. This moment was, of course, the Apollo 11 moon landing on the 20th of July, 1969. However, as with many famous events captured in the public eye, it wasn t long before conspiracies began to unfold. Some began to question the validity of the photographs and videos associated with the moon landings, others made claims that the government couldn t possibly have had the technology necessary to successfully land on the moon, and some even went as far as to point out the exact set and director that supposedly filmed the hoaxed moon landings. I first became aware of the conspiracy surrounding the moon landings about two years ago when I watched a documentary on the topic and naturally, being the patriotic American that I am, I sided with NASA without considering any evidence on either side of the argument, but recently, the topic was brought up in conversation and it stuck an interest within me. • 8. Get Out Racism Analysis Get Out Racism Get out is an American horror film directed by Jordan Peele. The film is based literally on the racism. A black African young man Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), a photographer and his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) went to visit her parents house. Chris is worried on the fact that her parents doesn t know that Chris is black because her parents are liberal racist. Chris finds out that her family has a black servant who seems like they are forced to do the work or being controlled by their parents. In the beginning of the scene where deer get hits from the car, the camera literally focuses on Chris shoes as he walks closer to the deer to find out if the deer is dead or not. Chris is wearing a blue shoelaces. There is a long history behind what colored shoelaces do you wear and each color has a specific meaning. For instance, red color shoe laces are used by neo nazi skinheads symbolize that they had killed someone. But, by researching on blue shoelaces I found out that it is used to symbolize the opposite that wearing blue shoelace makes someone thinks you are opposing racism(Citation). In fact, Chris ends up killing Jeremy(Caleb Landry Jones). These red and blue color shoe laces can be viewed differently throughout the film. • 9. The World War II And The Middle East From the 17th to the 20th centuries, imperialism served a mode of global exploration and expansion of economic, political and religious influence. Glory was at stake; the opportunity to expound upon their influence on the balance of power galvanized most of Europe to explore and colonize Central Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. In the period of European imperialism, imperialism served as conveyer of status and power in world affairs; the more imperialist territory, a more powerful nation state. Arbitrary boundaries and imperialist expansion into the unknown earth continued until the end of World War II. This disintegration of imperial empires came to be because of the mission of World War II and the weakness of the imperial power post war. As John Green says, In part, the Allies were fighting to stop Nazi imperialism. The Allied defeat of the Nazis discredited the whole of an empire for the future (Crash Course). The Allies could not reasonably defeat a permutation of an imperialist empire and then expect its colonies to return to a system of imperialist empires. As well, the power of the major imperial states (Britain, France, Japan) diminished after World War II, so their ability to upkeep their territorial control lessened. Therefore, Central Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East broke off from direct territorial control into independent states. What this means for modern day policy is that imperialist empires are no longer a goal of nation states. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Vitiligo Research Paper Melanin is an important part of the body that is produced by melanocytes. Melanin gives the hair, skin, and eyes color as well as protects the body from the ultra violet rays that radiate from the sun. The amount of melanin in the body determines the complexion of the skin. Vitiligo occurs when these important melanocytes die in patches around the body. This differs from the aging process, when melanocytes stop producing melanin which results in white or gray hair. Vitiligo is a non contagious, non life threatening condition which causes a discoloration of the skin that appears over time, but does not go away. I remember receiving candy, a material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity passes, an activity reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I was allowed to skip an activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game instead. Or sometimes, those who did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to lunch early which also meant a longer recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced my work ethic so that I was studying more and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed as I went through school that my work ethic strengthened the more positive reinforcement I received. If I began to slip, and my effort level decreased then I would receive negative reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a secondary reinforcer. This would then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same low grade as before. The consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped the way I behaved in school. This therefore supports my previous discussion that black people could contribute to society and live normal lives without white people diminishing their human rights and privileges and making them slaves. Douglass got his passion to promote freedom for all slaves after he escaped from slavery and ultimately had an end goal to abolish slavery in all its forms and aspects, and promote the moral and intellectual improvement of the coloured people and hasten the day of freedom to the three million of enslaved fellow countrymen . However, Riskins conception of this grid was to try and make some sense of the mediator s approach, can the facilitative mediator stay fixed in their style. The grid illustrated a meeting point of two lines; one representing the mediator s concept of his role, and the other the mediator s approach to the problem. When these two lines intersect, there are four quadrants which represent different mediation situations. Riskin stated that the four quadrants each represent a general location toward mediation: evaluative narrow, facilitative narrow, evaluative broad and facilitative broad. The Facilitative Narrow mediator will use past cases, skill and strategies in order to help the parties be realistic about their conflict, underlining their strengths and weaknesses, and credible outcomes, using experience, and techniques learned in order to bring focus back to a discussion. They will not asses or offer suggestions, and allow the parties through shared interest to develop open discussion to reaching mutual agreement, but will offer guidance on their legal positions and the concerns of non settlement. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that a comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a community (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87 year old woman ( 2005 dog bite fatalities ). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials think it looks like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so called dangerous breeds. For example, a Labrador Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like Rottweilers. The deciding factor is not breed, it is ownership. More importantly, some choices impact how successful we are in various things. I chose to write about choices because choices are single handedly the most important thing in the world. As people always say, Hindsight is 20/20 , but if we would look forward in time and plan instead of making gut decisions, making better decisions and choices would definitely be easier to do. Robert Frost said it best in his poem, The Road Not Taken , when he said, Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim (Frost). This shows that when Frost got to a fork in the road, he sat down and evaluated both options before making a selection. He looked at the path on the left and then the path on the right so he would know exactly which choice to make and how that choice would work for him. This applies to everybody. When there is a big choice to be made, we need to evaluate every option and then look into the future to see how the options will benefit us later. If at the time a choice seems perfect, but there is no future benefit, why make that choice? If everybody has a common goal to be the best person that they can be and to be as successful as they can in life, the choice that is made needs to be a thirty day or thirty year decision, not a thirty second decision. Choice is defined as the act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities . Choices are not optional. We do not even know we are making a choice most of the time. Clinical Reasoning and Judgement in The Nursing Process Critical thinking and clinical reasoning are essential skills to develop a sound clinical judgement. Nurses use critical thinking models and processes to support and organize the interventions that they perform in the clinical setting. In the scenario of Mr. Patient requesting for a Do Not Resuscitate order, I used the nursing process to serve as the framework of the patient care and the Lasater s Clinical Judgment Rubric by Kathie Lasater (2007) to guide my reflection. In this paper, I will describe the skills that were used in relation to the nursing process, provide analysis of the model and application of learning in terms of CNO competencies, and evaluate my clinical decision making in terms of patient outcomes. While, the nursing process, served as a guide to organize my thought process in relation to the overall picture of the patient, I also incorporated thinking structures such as ABC and Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs to determine the prioritization in each activity. Furthermore, I utilized the Structured Prebriefing Worksheet by Karin Page Cutrara (2015) to make inferences from the data before engaging in the scenario. Clinical Reasoning Skills in Scenario The main clinical issue in the scenario is the need of a Do Not Resuscitate order by the client. In the pre briefing process, I predicted that the patient needs medication to reduce his chronic pain related to his previous medical history of prostate cancer and transurethral resection of prostate. Using the nursing process, I am able to systematically assess and deliver appropriate interventions to the patient. I prioritize his chronic pain over his feelings, based on the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. As I complete his physical assessment, I noticed that his pain level is the only variable that is out of the normal limits. I examined his pain in detail using the PQRST pain assessment tool. I tried to look for more gaps in my assessment when I inquire about his feelings in which I learned that patient would like to have a DNR order. In the planning phase, the health care team had a discussion about prioritization. On one hand, the patient s pain level is eight out of ten that needed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If anyone doubts the essential element of European sophistication in Jazz, it is a simple matter for his to compare a typical piece of Jazz, such as Duke Ellington Swampy River, first with a lyric by Grieg and then with a record of African music. It must be clear to even the most prejudiced listener that apart from a few rhythmical peculiarities the Ellington piece has far more in common with the music of Grieg 6 One must understand that even when Duke infused the two tonalities of music; he still was obligated to work within guidelines of the European Harmonic tradition.7 Yet by him keeping with this tradition he is not obligated to write music in the form of previous composers such as Stravinsky, Mozart, or Bach, for to do that would delegate Ellington s music as a duplicate work. Here is the contradiction, for no Classical composer has ever been chastise for creativity in their sound, and yet how do you explain the criticism of Ellington s work? Although the military is a potentially dangerous and life changing option, it is one of the better ways to get yourself through college, and set yourself up for future job opportunities. As well as coverage of most college expenses, the military provides a multitude of other benefits, including experience that is easily utilized in the civilian world. Although there is danger associated with joining the military, the benefits far outweigh the costs. Especially with the many benefits and privileges that come along with it. The main reason many people would join the military for is the coverage of college expenses. According to College Costs: FAQ, the average cost of college tuition over 4 years can range anywhere from $9.4k to $32.4k. Most college students, if working, work a minimum wage job due to lack of education for a higher paying job. In Oregon, the minimum wage is approximately $9.75 per hour. A student in Oregon would have to work a minimum of 3,857 hours over four years, without spending any of that money earned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Great White Fleet Essay The Great White Fleet was a powerful battle fleet sent off by Theodore Roosevelt on a round the globe journey dating from December of 1907 to February 1909. The fleet was four squadrons of warships; or 16 battleships and their supporting auxiliary ships, which were painted white for no other reason than the visual appeal and to hide mechanical errors contained in the engine rooms. All were manned by 14,000 sailors and marines and traveled 43,000 miles. The fleet made twenty port calls on six different continents. The hopes for the effect this battle fleet would cause were mostly about America s image. Roosevelt s plan was to use this fleet to show the world how powerful we had become, as well as demonstrate our navy capability. It was impressive to many, displayed great influence and showcased great naval power from our country. Roosevelt used this tactic in order to intimidate Japan by showing them the fleet could sail from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean, prompting the fleet to sail across the world. • 41. Summary Of Patterns By Amy Lowell Patterns Amy Lowell was a leader of the Imagists movement. She was influenced by John Keats and gathered a selection of his works. Lowell began to write after her brothers published books of their own, but she focused on poetry. The detail in Lowell s poetry related to describing and environment or a person could help the reader better understand what is happening in the poem and include the reader as if they were actually there experiencing what the narrator or speaker is experiencing. Her choices develop a bigger picture than what the poem is actually saying. Amy Lowell helped to change the thought process when reading poetry. Amy Lowell s Patterns is a very good example of imagery being used to draw the reader s attention. This poem is filled with so many bright and vivid colors and different moods that it attracts the reader. Each stanza shows a different scene or a different moment in the same area and exuding different emotions to share that moment and feeling. The first two stanzas and the last three stanzas are in the present, while the third and fourth stanzas are flashbacks or memories she is having as she remembers her lost lover. The title Patterns refers to the gown that the speaker is wearing, the different flowers in the garden, the paths that are in the garden, and the war that the speaker mentions towards the end of the poem. In the first stanza, the speaker is walking through the garden and she notices the wind blowing on the flowers causing them to move or sway. She continues walking through the garden in her stiff but beautifully embroidered gown. She has white hair and a fan embellished with jewels. She states that she has a unique design. The mood in this stanza seems calm or content but a little uncomfortable. The second stanza she is still walking along the path in the garden and her train is dragging on the ground behind her covering the path and the plants along the sides. Her ensemble is currently in style and so are her shoes. She only shows confidence while wearing her corset and gown. She slowly takes a seat under the lime tree, although the corset makes it difficult and uncomfortable to sit, she sits anyway. She watches the flowers swing in the breeze wanting to be able to do ... The epic poem features many of the Greek gods and goddesses as they manipulate mortals in the battle for Troy. While the mortals may be controlled by the gods, everyone is susceptible to the struggle of obtaining glory. Zeus is the god who decides to side with the Trojans, giving them power and encouraging them to fight off the Achaean army. The other gods see him trying to give an unfair advantage to the Trojans, and step in. • 46. Wondrous Wetlands Ecology Summary Wondrous Wetlands Ecology Summary SUMMARY Wondrous Wetlands is an article about the conservation department of Missouri finding ways to save wetlands for future generations. Those who are directly impacted by wetlands are those who enjoy things such as hunting and wildlife watching, but can affect everyone, because wetlands contribute to the clean water that we drink and even cycling nutrients in our environment. When wetlands began to diminish in the 1980 s, conservationists realized there was a problem when they saw waterfowl populations diminishing. The department then developed a plan to develop more wetlands to try and save the populations, which was known as the 1989 Wetland Plan. The wetland plan developed an additional 12,500 acres ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I really enjoyed how the article talked about the plans that the state of Missouri is working on to keep waterfowl populations around as well as all other organisms that live in a wetland environment. I think that it is so true that so many are forgetting about how important ecosystems such as this one is to the survival of many. We as a human species have gotten so wrapped up in our smart phones and computers that many of us forget the beauty that the outside world holds. One piece of information that really stood out to me in this article was that since the advance of technology used to study wetlands has grown, we now can determine what kinds of plants will grow in just a few inches of water and who will benefit from it. Since contour maps were replaced with computer mapping software they can now also determine small changes in elevation that also affect organisms and where they can be found. Even though it will take time to fix many of the populations that were affected by the decline of wetlands, I am glad to see that there is a plan in place to try and preserve these areas for future generations as well as needing them for our ... • 47. The Building Sector Affects The Society Executive Summary The building sector affects the society in various ways: economically, socially, naturally, and built environmentally. In a more direct or indirect manner, the various building activities including designs, construction, use, refurbishments, as well as demolition of the buildings affects the environmental performance differently. In bringing environmental issue into the context, it is true that a feature of environmentally sustainable is not only comfortable to occupy, but also consume small amount of energy. Studies argue that the major goal of sustainable design involves reducing or ultimately eliminating depletion of natural resources and degradation of environment due to the infrastructures and facilities made by man. Although various factors are barriers, this situation calls for a better ways of approaching the building activities that are environmentally sustainable. Building policies plays critical role in reducing environmental impacts although little research has been done as far as this sector is concerned. These policies should focus on codes for environmental sustainability of building designs that establishes better planning practices, designing as well as constructing buildings with environmental concerns of the impacts of the build structures (Davies, 2004). Poorland s cost of producing wine, although higher than Richland s in terms of hours of labor, is lower in terms of bread. For every bottle produced, Poorland gives up half of a loaf, while Richland has to give up three loaves to make a bottle of wine. Therefore, Poorland has a comparative advantage in producing wine. Similarly, for every loaf of bread it produces, Poorland gives up two bottles of wine, but Richland gives up only a third of a bottle. Therefore, Richland has a comparative advantage in producing bread. If they exchange wine and bread one for one, Poorland can specialize in producing wine and trading some of it to Richland, and Richland can specialize in producing bread. Both Richland and Poorland will be better off than if they had not traded. By shifting, say, ten hours of labor out of producing bread, Poorland gives up the one loaf that this labor could have produced. But the reallocated labor produces two bottles of wine, which will trade for two loaves of bread. Result: trade nets Poorland one additional loaf of bread. Nor does Poorland s gain come at Richland s expense. Richland gains also, or else it would not trade. By shifting three hours out of producing wine, Richland cuts wine production by one bottle but increases bread production by three loaves. It trades two of these loaves for Poorland s two bottles of wine. Richland has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
