Labelling Theories Contribution to the Sociological Understanding of Crime and Deviance
Becker is the main sociologist studying labelling theory on deviance, he argues that social groups
create deviance by making the rules whose infraction constitutes deviance. Meaning acts only
become deviant when observers perceive it and define it as deviant. An example of this would be
the act of nudity, it is accepted in the bedroom between husband and wife or on a nudist camp, but
when a stranger was to enter the bedroom, or someone was to streak across a sporting event,
others would usually see this as deviant, and this deviancy would become a label on the individual.
Several factors affect what the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which in turn could turn into a self fulfilling prophecy because of being identified with the label
and it becomes controlling. Once these steps have occurred, what Becker describes as the
deviant career is completed when the individual joins an organised deviant group and thus
accepting their identity of being deviant. However, this is not by any means inevitable and some
of those who started out as convicts or drug addicts can become straight and get jobs or quit their
habits. When Becker identified that he took a sequential approach he means how he explains
deviance and at any stage in the sequence of his explanation it is possible that the deviant will re
enter conventional society. Lemmert also uses the interactionist perspective in his view of
labelling, outlining primary and secondary deviance, primary being the act before it is publicly
labelled and secondary being the response of the individual or deviant to the reactions of others in
society. But he sees the agents of social control to blame for deviance rather than the traditional
views of the blame lying with the deviant individual or group. This labelling theory has contributed
two concepts to help understand the relationship between media and crime: В· Deviancy
amplification, Lesley Wilkins points out that a response to deviant acts by media and the police can

Paleolithic Lifeways Research Paper
Paleolithic Lifeways The Paleolithic Era or the Stone Age was the beginning of humanity. The
was the age of foraging and stone. People often lived in small groups of only close family. The
only way to obtain food was by hunting and eating some plants, because of this people only had
enough to feed their small group or family. These people relied on mainly animals and some plants
which meant they moved when there food moved. Temporary homes were build with bones and
hides which allowed them to move the homes when they food wasn t there. Hunting is just one job
specialization. Some others include sewing, tracking animals and watching the kids. People

Corporate Tax Rate In America
1.One of the major issues we are facing in the US economy is how much we should charge in
regards to the corporate tax rate. Corporate tax rate is imposed by the government and determines
how much a corporate business will pay in taxes at the end of the year. Trump plans on decreasing
the corporate taxrate from 35% to 15%. Out of the 34 countries in the OECD, America ranks first
with a 39.1 percent corporate taxrate, compared to an OECD average of 24.1 percent. Along with
trump, I think that we should reconsider the corporate tax rate. If we were to lower the rate than
companies would have more money to spend and put back into our economy. Although I agree with
Trump, there are several factors that affect this decision and there are many... Show more content on

The fiscal policy that I suggest we use to address the problem is graduated corporate income. We
should not determine the corporate tax rate as one concrete number. We should decide the rate
based on how big the company is. The policy will state that the first $50,000 of a corporation s
profit is taxed at a 15% and will cap out at 35% for companies that make more than $335,000.
Using this policy will make it so more small businesses will grow because they will not be taxed
as much as a large company that can actually afford it.
5.The monetary policy I suggest we use is to increase the money supply and lower the cost of
borrowing. I believe that this will affect how we calculate the corporate tax rate because if a
company has an easier time getting a loan, and if they have access to more money, we can make
the tax rate higher because they will have more money. The money that we get from taxing these
corporations should be put back into the economy by the government. If we were to keep the tax
rates higher we can use the extra money and put it into things such as; the building of roads,
education, and

St. Pio of Pietrelcina or Padre Pio Essay
Padre Pio has become one of the most popular saints in the world. St. Pio of Pietrelcina or Padre
Pio, was born in the small Italian village of Pietrelcina on May 25, 1887. Then known as
Franscesco, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, he was born to two peasant farmers, Giuseppa and
Grazio Forgione. The day after his birth, he was baptized at the Castle Church near his home. The
town of Pietrelcinawas very religious and saint s feast days were celebrated throughout the year, this
had a strong influence on the Forgione family. From early on it was clear that Franscesco was a
special child of God. As child he was very pious and decided he wanted to be a priest at a very
early age. At age 16, he became a Capuchin novice and received the... Show more content on

to the surgery she prayed to Padre Pio and the next morning she was completely healed. Padre
Pio s feast day is on September 23rd and he is the patron saint of civil defense volunteers and
Catholic adolescents. (A Padre Pio Celebration) I chose to research and write about Padre Pio,
because I found his life very fascinating. I thought it was very intriguing, that Padre Pio,
mysteriously received the signs of crucifixion and the doctors had no other natural explanation
for it. His life is inspirational, because, even though he went through great suffering throughout
his life, he still managed to see God s love for him. Padre Pio believed that with love from God,
came suffering and suffering for the sake of God, helped the soul reach and become closer to
God. An inspirational quote from Padre Pio is, Pray, hope, and do not worry. Worry is useless.
God is merciful and will hear your prayer. (Padre Pio Quotes) This is something I would like to
imitate in my life, because this quote describes the basics things one needs to do the lead a good
spiritual life. One should not worry because God is there and will protect you through your

A Journey Of A Month Without Chocolate Essay
Introduction I would like to take you on a journey of a month without chocolate. This may
sound trivial, but it was more impactful than I could have imagined. We will cross several
intersections along the way. Join me as I tell of my experience, including symptoms of
withdrawal, cravings, and temptations. At the crossroads of Expectancies, we will discuss why
I chose to abstain from chocolate, what supports I relied on, and what I expected them to
provide. I will share what motivated me to change, and my expectation of success or failure.
Finally, I will tell you about anything that I anticipated would impede my success. Once we
cross over Expectancies we will travel down the road to Reflections where we will look back on
my experience, highlighting my struggles, successes, insights, and setbacks. I will share with
you how I believed my own biological programming influenced me, what psychological effects I
experienced, and the impact the world around me had on my journey. We will then proceed to
the intersection of Education where I will tell you what I learned about myself, relapse, relapse
prevention, behavior and how my attitude changed. I will share with you how my motivation
changed over the abstinence period. I will identify triggers and what I decide I would do to handle
them in the future. As we come to the end of our journey I will explore what I have learned about

Report on Moore s Law
Moore s Law was first predicted in 1965 and hence adjusted in 1975 by Gordon Moore; and, it
was popularized by Carver Mead after the adjustment in 1975. In Moore s first law, it state a
hypothesis that that the number of transistor in a dense integrated circuit doubles approximately
every two years. The Moore s second law express which can be described as the economic side of
Moore s Law expresses that the cost of production of semiconductor fab would increase at a
steady rate. In brief, both of the Moore s Laws express the idea that the transistors in the
integrated circuit will be doubled every two years while the cost of the production will be halved at
the same rate of doubling.
The Moore s Law was not such accurate from 1965 to 1975. At that time, the time for doubling is
about 12 months when the hypothesis was first in 1965. However, it decreased to about 18 24
months in the last ten years. Therefore, many people thought the hypothesis was wrong. Even
after the adjustment of Moore s law, the questions still exist. Many people believed that
development of transistors would meet a physical limit leading to the end of Moore s law.
However this time, the fact prove that they were wrong. In that following 30 years, the Moore s
Law was very accurate. As the following diagram shows, the transistors in circuit was about 2300
in early 1970s. Then it increased to 29000 in the later 70s. Hence, the

The Negative Effects Of Sign Language And Sign Language
Over the last few decades, baby sign language has been a consistent hot topic all around the world.
Parents are bringing American Sign Language into the home as tool to communicate with their
infants from a very early age. Despite controversial debates regarding how sign language can
negatively affect a child s development of speech, there have been findings that prove this to be
untrue. Teaching sign language to infants facilitates early communication skills and better
interactions with the people around them. The first argument supporting baby sign language
addresses the ongoing debate that argues teaching infants sign language delays his or her speech.
Research has found just the opposite. A study conducted by Goodwyn, Acredolo, and... Show more

King (2017) has research findings that show sign language to be the earliest way a child can
develop language skills and connections. Creating a platform of common understanding to
children at an early age will help them initially and in the future. Initially, it exposes infants to
language well before than can speak which gives their brains an advantage when it is time to
transition into speaking English. A child s spoken language is the main goal, but baby sign
language gives infants the opportunity to communicate much earlier than their first word. The
average baby speaks their first word around the age of two, and the average infant being taught
sign language can produce their first sign in under a year. A study done by Bonvillian, Orlansky,
and Novack observed 11 infants that were being taught sign language. Their findings revealed that
on average, the first sign was produced around eight and a half months, and the earliest baby
signed their first sign at five and a half months (Thompson, Cotnoir Bichelman, McKerchar, Tate,
Dancho, 2007). These numbers show one of the clear advantages of baby sign language. The
difference between an infant learning sign language and one who is not, is a whole year of
additional communication. It is hard enough for parents to identify the needs of their baby, but sign
language helps fill that void sooner. Pressure is taken off of both the baby and caregiver when

Edward Snowden and Wikileaks
Since the beginning of modern technology people have worried about being looked upon or spied
on without their knowing. Even before the internet was invented some people worried about their
phone calls being recorded or listened in on without their knowledge. In 1997 when the internet
was common in most households this made this idea of people being spied on much easier and on
a wider scale. The first proven threat of internetsurveillancewas in 2001 when the NSA(National
Security Agency) did a Large scale warrantless surveillance (Risen Bush Lets U.S Spy ) of internet
traffic and data streams. This surveillance program was a way to gather data and prevent terrorist
attacks. However some speculated that this was not just to monitor the activities of suspected
terrorists. In 2013 when Edward Snowden released data that proved that the NSA was using their
surveillance on everyone it turned speculation into fact and fears of this were brought to the surface.
In the summer of 2013 one of the biggest leaks of classified documents was carried out by a man
named Edward Snowden (E. McAskill) . Edward Snowden worked as an sysamin (System
Administrator) for a security company that did contract work for the NSA. During his time working
at this company he released an estimated two hundred thousand classified documents. Within these
documents was evidence that the United States was performing a large scale surveillance operation
of its people (B. Denson). It is estimated that

Oedipus Leadership Style Of Leadership
Throughout history, there has been numerous accounts of great leadership. Whether its political or
social leadership, each man or woman has his or her own unique set of characteristics that makes
them great. Frequently they leave a legacy which is observed meticulously in order to understand
the traits which corresponded to great leadershipand its accomplishments. What is less often
accounted for is the failure a leader experience during their time lifetime. Failed leadership in
history and literature provides examples of how some of the greatest figure to ever exist become
oblivious to the wake of destruction that they leave behind. Odysseus, Oedipusand Hamlet each
have a fatal task to accomplish throughout their individual stories . While each man shows
characteristics of wisdom, critical thinking and hold some position of royalty, these traits are not
enough to save them from the destructive trail they leave behind.
Odysseus, a King favored by the goddess of war and wisdom faced a twenty year journey of war
and travel. This two decade journey of adventure came at the expense of crew and nearly his
family. His failed leadership stems from his hubris that overcomes him at times, particularly when
he leaves the island of the Cyclopes, Polyphemus. When Odysseus encounters Polyphemus, his
crew becomes trapped in his cave as they waited on their host to welcome them, a common Greek
custom. When they discover the beat didn t plan on showing any hospitality and instead begins

Animals have been associated with magic for a long time. These enchanted pets were
commonly used to diagnose illnesses, to find sources of magic and to find treasures. It was not
until the Middle Ages and the rise of Christianity that these pets were considered evil. They
started to be considered as demons or evil spirits in animal form, sent out by a witch to do their
evil bidding. In Harry Potter, each of the before mentioned pets is associated in mythology in
different ways: The Owl has always been associated with death, sorcery and the dark side of life.
The owls would go with witches on their broomsticks and carry out their evil commands. Cats
have always been associated with witches. A witch was reputed to own a cat as a familiar pet and
they were believed to embody demons and used for spells.
In the wizardry world of Harry Potter, a magic wand had to be obtained to attend Hogwarts

used to channel the energy and magic of the witch. In Egyptian mythology, the magic wand is

No Discipline by the British Soldiers Created the Boston...
The Boston Massacre
On March 5, 1770, colonists were taunting a British sentry outside the Customs House. This was
common for a day in colonized America. However, this day was more meaningful than any other
before. The British sentry retaliated causing a considerable mob of colonists to get involved. Then
some more British came to aid their comrade. Amid the chaos, the British fired their muskets into
the crowd killing five and injuring three. This would later be referred to as the Boston Massacre. A
lack of discipline by the British Soldiers prompted the Boston Massacre. British presence in

The guard reciprocated the behavior; an unprofessional and ignorant reaction for a soldier. A
mob of colonists began to come to their fellow American s aid. The other British guards saw this
happening and came to help out their comrade. Captain Thomas Preston was the commanding
officer of the men dispatched to help the guard in front of the house. The crowd was remarkably
rowdy and uncontrollable. No one was sure what to do. The soldiers dispatched to the situation
were unsure of their orders and rules of engagement. All of a sudden, one soldier fires into the

Cambodia s Most Famous Sacred Temple
In the past year, a record number of tourists visited Cambodia s most famed sacred temple. A
startling 2.86 million flocked from all over the globe to visit Angkor Wat, while taking up
temporary residence in the nearby town of Siam Reap during their stay. Angkor Wat has evolved
into an everlasting symbol of Cambodia. The Khmer King Suryavarman II built this Hindu temple
in the early 12th century to serve as the state temple and later as a mausoleum. From the beginning
this monument possessed a particular kind of value and significance that combined spiritual
potency with the temporal power of its creator (French 173). This temple has withstood the test of
time, enduring religious conversions, political upheaval, and civil strife that manifested in
Cambodia over the years.
However, as the country moves towards a more global view where the tourist economy takes a
prevalent stand, the integrity of this World Heritage site has become compromised. From the years
1992 to 2004, Angkor Watearned itself a spot on UNESCO s World Heritage in Danger list. The

seem an obvious subject for a Sociologist to study. In the past it has been more commonly thought
that Suicide was a result of a person s mental state, however suicide was given an all new

Also the statistics showed that the suicide rate dropped in times of war or political upheaval, For
example, the suicide rate dropped 14 percent after war broke out between Austria and Italy in 1866.
And by using multivariate analysis Durkheim confirmed his theory that religion was a main factor
and that it wasnt just dependent on some nations. He found that in Bavaria, which has the highest
number of Roman Catholics in Germany also has the lowest suicide rate.
Continuing on from his research and by using Empirical evidence Durkheim determined that there
were four types of suicide; Altruistic, Fatalistic, Anomic and Egoistic. And that these suicides were
a result of Social Integration or Moral Regulation and the excess or lack of either.
Altruistic is a result of over integration, a self sacrifice out of duty to others or to benefit others.
For example, Hindu widows would kill themselves at their husband s funeral. Egoistic is a result
of under integration, such is when a person isn t sufficiently part of a group to which they should
belong. It can be argued that this is one of the reasons why Protestants are more prone to suicide
than Catholics, because there is a lesser sense of community. Fatalistic is a result of over
regulation, in the case of when a person is too restricted by

The Threat Of The Internet
The internet has become a vital way for organizations and the government to share and collect
information. The rapid increase in the use of new technologies has made it difficult for the law to
keep up with immerging threats. Cybercrimes were up 10.4% in 2014, and it does not look like the
threats will be decreasing anytime soon (Kassner, 2014). The country and organizations, need to be
aware of the threats out there and protect their systems.
The Target Cybersecurity Breach There have been many breaches in the past few years that have
made headlines in the news. Almost all of these breaches could have been prevented if proper
security protocols were in place. The Target breach is not an exception to this. Between
November 27th, 2013 and December 15th, 2013 hackers took 40 million credit and debit card
numbers ( Krebs on Security , 2014). Seventy million records were taken that included email
addresses, and the names of Target shoppers ( Krebs on Security,Target , 2014). This breach has
cost Target sixty one million dollars as of February 2014 (Riley, Elgin, Lawrence Matlack, 2014).
How did it happen?
This was a known busy time for Target, because of the holidays. The hackers targeted payment
systems and put malware on the systems (Riley et al., 2014). The malware was able to get into
the system because the hackers were able to gain access to credentials from an HVAC vendor
(Riley et al., 2014). Further, six months before the breach Target had a strong

Synthetic Dye Research Paper
Look down at your lap.
Are you wearing jeans?
Even if you re still in sweatpants, I m willing to bet you ve got a few pairs of denim nearby, right?
With so many jeans walking around today, it s easy to forget that their classic indigo color is
actually rare in nature. And while modern synthetic dyes have made this deep blue a common color,
it wasn t always so.
In fact, for centuries, in part because of its rarity, people across cultures and religions went totally
bonkers for indigo.
Demand for the color sparked trade wars, fueled Trans Atlantic slavery, and for a time the dye was
actually used as straight up currency.
The indigo craze probably even influenced Newton s original color wheel, even though most color

Eventually the liquid was drained, mixed with lye, molded into cakes, dried, and pounded into
powder.
Dyers could then mix that powder with water and other substances in soaking vats to get the exact
purpley blue shade they wanted.
India probably cultivated the original commercial supply of Old World indigo that worked it s way
around European trade routes during the Greco Roman era.
The so called blue gold later became culturally important and highly desired throughout Europe,
Japan, and West Africa, before eventually making it s way to the American colonies, where its
cultivation and trade helped fund the Revolutionary War effort.
Around the turn of 20th century synthetic indigo dye came on scene and decimated the natural dye
market. Today most commercial operations use the synthetic indigo, although environmental
concerns have reignited an interest in natural, sustainable dyes.
Okay, so what does any of this have to do with Newton, you ask?
Well, you may recall that in the mid 17th century, apple loving Isaac discovered the visible spectrum

Film And American Culture Essay
The relationship between film and the American culture is one, which is highly complicated and
dynamic. Movie director in Hollywood are constantly influenced by world events to create movies,
which entertain, and at times shed light on certain events. Film is also an integral part of our
culture because it provides a medium, which can reflect our public s concerns, attitudes, and beliefs.
This report will briefly discuss the interplay between filmand the American culture, which is
represented in said film.
During the late 1940 s and into the 1950 s, film reflected the conservatism, which dominated the
sociopolitical arenas of the time. America was at war with the axis powers in Germany, Italy and
Japan. War films during this era depicted a we versus them attitude. These films simply involved
an antagonist and a hero. Until the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, American films generally
reflected, the neutral, isolationist stance that prevailed in politics and culture (Lordbucket.org,
2012) Films like Casablanca which was directed by Michael Curtiz, painted an image of ill effects
of fascism. It also illustrated the values of heroes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a reactionary youth culture, which was against the dominant institutions in America. The civil
rights movement was in full effect and many of the films of this era displayed the

entered into a romantic affair with the wife of his father s business partner. Many young viewers
during this era believed the film perceived the social codes established by elders of the past
generation. Keeping with rebellious attitude of America, films like Bonne and Clyde s violence
provided examples of film directors testing the limits of permissible on screen material. This

A Summary Of The Statue Of Augustus
In this statue of Augustus, power is the main characteristic being portrayed. In his left hand is a
spear, which Dr. Allen S. Farber of the State University of New York at Oneonta describes as a
symbol of ability in arms and power. This statue also depicts Augustus wearing a cuirass, which
was the armor worn on the torso of the military general. The breastplate is known for its portrayal of
a cosmic setting containing multiple gods, possibly implying that the victory of Augustusover the
Parthians held a cosmic favor, Farber states that this statue has many characteristics that are
parallel to that of Greek works. For example, the Romans incorporated a sense of drapery style
common in Greek art to convey a sense of elegance and power.

Comparison Of The Maltese Falcon And Citizen Kane
Two of the first film noir pieces, The Maltese Falcon and Citizen Kane, share many similarities
in structure and style. Their biggest similarities are the plant and payoff technique, and
meaningless quests the main characters embark upon. In The Maltese Falcon, a detective, Sam
Spade, is tasked with finding a golden falcon by Brigid O Shaunessy. He is not told of the falcon
until Brigid s former partner, Joel Cairo, offers to pay Spade for the falcon. Consequently, Spade
discovers Brigid is lying to him about her identity, having originally given an alternate name. All
the while, Spade doesn t know the falcon s location until a ship captain comes into Spade s
office and dies, holding the falcon. This leads to Spade bargaining for the falcon, after which,
the falcon is finally unwrapped, and discovered to be fake. The film concludes with Cairo
setting off to try and track down the real falcon, and Spade left alone without the money he was
promised for it. However, in Citizen Kane, the film starts off with Charles Kane dying on the
floor of his mansion, saying rosebud. Then the film cuts to a newsreel about Kane s life, which is
dismissed as too impersonal. Subsequently, a reporter, Thompson, is sent to discover rosebud .
Throughout the movie, Kane s acquaintances tell Thompson about his life, few mentioning
rosebud. Finally, the movie ends in Kane s mansion, reporters cataloguing all of Kane s
possessions. Thompson is asked by fellow reporters if he ever discovered the

Statement Of Purpose For Cryptography
An algorithm that resists brute force will never become obsolete, no matter how powerful code
breaking computers get. It would become a world standard overnight. This quote from Dan Brown
s Digital Fortress caught my imagination in high school, and from that point onwards, I knew that
this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to become a research scientist, who would decipher such
algorithms, even more so break a cipher claimed to be perfect. Since then I have been studying
cryptography, which led to a tendency of seeing patterns and codes in my daily activities. Routine
activities such as reading a letter or looking at a sign, trigger connections in my mind. I have
always enjoyed reading theorems and understanding their proofs. My interest in cryptography

It would be a privilege to work under him and contribute to the field under his tutelage. Driven by
my interest in Cryptography, I will be delighted to join the Security and Cryptography group at

Racial Segregation In Major League Baseball
Introduction
Back in the day, American baseball excluded players of African American descent from Major
League Baseball and also in its lower Minor Leagues up until 1947. Racial segregation in
professional baseball was called a gentleman s agreement an arrangement or understanding which is
based upon the trust of both or all parties, rather than being legally binding because there was no
written agreement even at the highest level of organized baseball, the major leagues. But there was
a vote in the minor league in 1887 that was against allowing new contracts with African American
players within its league which sent a powerful strike that eventually led to the disappearance of
African Americans from the sport s other minor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

New State Constitutions
Even before the Declaration was signed, leaders began preparing new state constitutions. These
documents were based on American ideals of individual rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. They also included values such as popular sovereignty government by consent of the
governed and equal justice under the law. New Hampshire was the first colony to have a
constitution. Each state set up a legislature, most of which were bicameral, or divided into two
parts or houses. The legislature made the laws. The governor, the chief executive, was elected by
the legislature or the citizens. The governor s job was to carry out the laws. The state judges and

A confederation is a voluntary association of independent states. The states in the Confederation
agreed to allow the central government to carry out a limited number of activities. The Articles
set up a one house legislature called the Congress. Each state, no matter what size, had one vote.
The Articles specified the activities that Congress could undertake. In all other matters, the states
held sovereignty, or supreme power. Congress had the authority to conduct foreign affairs,
maintain armed forces, borrow money, and issue currency. It could not enforce its laws or
impose taxes. It could ask the states for money, but could not demand it. Congress had no real
power over the states. All 13 states ratified, or approved, the Articles. Soon, problems with the
Articles became clear. Congress could not pass a law unless nine states voted to accept it. An
amendment, or change, to the Articles required approval of all 13 states. Even when Congress
passed laws, it could not enforce them. The Articles did not provide for courts or a chief executive.
A state could ignore a law and Congress could do nothing about it.

High Fidelity Analysis
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby Bibliography: Hornby, Nick. High Fidelity. Victor Gollancz, 1995.
Nick Hornby s High Fidelity (1995) details the struggles of Rob Fleming. High Fidelity by Nick
Hornby revolves around the professional and romantic endeavours of the protagonist Rob
Fleming. Rob is struggling to cope with the diminishing returns from his hapless record shop,
Championship Vinyl, which he runs with the help of Barry and Dick, two music lovers. Apart
from this, Rob is also trying to come to terms with heartbreak after he broke up with his
girlfriend. Rob s problems seem to be anchored in his tendency to replace his real feelings and
opinions with lists of tribulations. When Rob and Laura break up, he resorts to making a list of the
most memorable relationships and attempts to discover where exactly he went wrong. He believes
that real tension defines his relationship with women and the eventual breakups. Going by Rob s
numerous breakups with women, the novel seems to be all about dramatizing the romantic struggle
of this protagonist, with Burke s Act being the most dominant element. But elements like Agent,
Purpose, and Agency may only help to analyze minor aspects in the novel such as business failure
and infiltration of pop culture. The novel opens with Rob s top five breakups. The list includes

Fuentes de todos, Spain. He studied painting from age 14. He became a court painter to the
Spanish Crown in 1786 and the early portion of his career. Goya was considered one of the most
crucial Spanish artists of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Francisco married Josefa Bayeu y

Importance of Eucharist
Importance of the Eucharist
Receiving the Eucharist is one of the most important things we can do as a catholic. Holy
Communion is the most important of all the sacraments. It completes the Sacraments of Initiation.
The bread and wine we receive at communion is the body and blood of Jesus. It becomes the bread
and body of Jesus through Transubstantiation. Transubstantiation is the conversion of the
substance of the Eucharistic elements into the body and blood of Christ at consecration, only the
appearances of bread and wine still remain. We participate in the sacrament of communion to
commemorate all that Jesus did for us and getting nailed to a cross so we can be free from sin and
have eternal life in heaven.
The Lord gave us the sacrament of communion on Holy Thursday at the Last Supper. After first
washing the feet of the disciples, he then did the breaking of the bread. Jesus said Take, eat, this
is my body after Jesus said this he did the same for the wine saying Drink from it, all of you, for
this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins . This
shows us how Jesus himself is the bread and wine us Catholics receive at Holy Communion. The
sacrament of Communion is the only one of the seven sacraments that we are actually receiving
Jesus directly, along with having a grace bestowed upon us.
Receiving Holy Communion is very important. We should receive it as much as possible and be
very excited to receive it. Before

Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme
In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the
way our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to
respond while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told,
Shotwell and the narrator do not trusteach other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the
other if they start to behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what
counts as normal. Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s
intended theme, some used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme
uses repetition to show how the narrator s mindis deteriorating while being confined in a small
space, isolated from everyone except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about
what to do. A lot of what the narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers,
believe that his mind is deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for
one hundred thirty three days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep
himself reminded. Although, it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in
isolation and it starts to make him think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and
focus on about how they are both unwell. Another way Barthelme uses repetition is when the

hung a darkness and no familiar shapes remained parallels the complete emptiness he feels in his
soul. The speaker once again refers back to the environment when he uses no pleasant images of
trees , of sea and sky , and no colours of green fields . He uses this environmental imagery to show
that his life is now devoid of all color. He closes this excerpt with like living men, moved slowly

ID, Ego, And Superego In Snow White
The characters in this story are influenced by unconscious desires that lead them to extreme
measures to achieve what they want. They act like other humans who are driven by their
unconscious desires. Looking at the story as a whole, it is evident what the conflict is. The ID,
Ego, and Superego can all be individualized to give a meaning to the story. Humans can be
corrupted by their ID as it reflects their uncontrollable side. This story explains how humans must
destroy their ID and listen to their superego. The ID in this story is the Evil Queen. She is bent
on destroying Snow White and is consumed by her inner desires. This can be seen in the story at

Essay About Napoleon Bonaparte
About Napoleon Bonaparte Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the most written about figures in
history, yet it is impossible to say what Napoleon might have done. People even have different
opinions about what he actually did do [1]. Napoleon was a powerful and influential leader from
his moments in the French civil war to his years as a political leader. His accomplishments are
many, and his position as one of the great leaders of the ancient world is questionable because of
his controversial military campaigns. He brought glory to France but he also brought shame. His
courage, zeal, ego, and charisma make him a unique leader that all others are compared to. Because
of those characteristics his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon after King Louis XVI was guillotined in 1793, war was declared on Britain and Holland.
The inexperienced Napoleon was very successful in first Battle against Britain and was later
promoted to brigadier general and posted in Italy. France was searching for a new general to
crush the rebels during the civil war and they found Napoleon. His army was outnumbered 5 to
25 thousand as the rebels tried to take control of Saint Roch Church in Paris. Because of his
success in the Vendemiaire crisis he was once again promoted to major general. After his latest
victory he met a young lady, which led to a brief courtship during which Napoleon fell madly in
love. [4] On March 9th, 1796 he and Josephine de Beauharnais were married. His feelings for
Josephine show how he was an enthusiastic man in life as in battle. Napoleon s physical
appearance was never very appealing. He was thin, pale, had long dark hair and was well below
average in height. However, when he arrived in

Catholic And Wicca Similarities
Catholicism and Wicca
Catholics and Wiccans could not be further from each other. Catholicism is used to refer
specifically to the Roman Catholics which is one if not the most dominant religion in the world.
Wicca is also well known and followed by many though not in the same scale. Their views and
beliefs are very different and in this paper each religion will be compared side by side along with
my personal thoughts. The pattern of the belief system, the community, the central myths, rituals,
ethical systems, emotional experiences, material expressions of religion and sacredness will be
looked at as well.
Catholics believe in one God though he is a holy trinity all in one. The father, the son (Jesus), and
the holy spirit, even though there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fox (2016) states that Wicca is part of contemporary Paganism/nature spirituality (para 1). There are
many forms of the Wiccan religion just like in Christianism. There are hereditary/family tradition,

Grant Essay
The Federal Pell Grant program has continued to support college students with financial needs for
over 40 years. Starting in 1972 as the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant, the program was later
renamed after Senator Claiborne Pell, whose goal was to provide economically disadvantaged
students with the opportunity to pursue higher educationbeyond secondary schooling. Even though
the program is more geared toward increasing the number of collegegraduates seeking a bachelor s
degree, being successful at the community college level can greatly benefit post secondary
students. Some of the advantages of an associate s degree include higher pay than a high school
diploma or GED certificate, relatively quick acquisition of higher education... Show more content

Moreover, I will respond to a few anti Pell grant criticisms and elaborate on how changes to the
program may make it more effective.
The Federal Pell Grant Program s Purpose: Addressing the Economic Market Failure The Federal
Pell Grant program s purpose is to provide financially needy students with a foundation of post
secondary educational support. As low income earners continue to lack the skills necessary for
skilled labor careers, and the demand for low skilled labor decreases, the wage gap will increase.
As the wage gap increases, so would the need for effective social welfare funded by the
government via taxpayer dollars. Pell grants are meant to offer students with an opportunity to
break the cycle of being economically disadvantaged, and the program gives them a chance to
improve their economic situation, and thus, society as a whole.
The Federal Pell Grant Program: What it is and How it Works
Pell grants are federal subsidies given to students primarily on a financial need basis to help them
invest in higher education. The money is not meant to be repaid like a loan. In 2015, the program
provided a maximum of $5500 in grant money to undergraduate students. The maximum has risen a
few hundred dollars since then, but the amount covers the costs of community college tuition more
completely than for a 4 year institution. Low attainments rates can be attributed, in part, to low
income families being unaware of the cost of college, thus, not

  • 2. Labelling Theories Contribution to the Sociological... Labelling Theories Contribution to the Sociological Understanding of Crime and Deviance Becker is the main sociologist studying labelling theory on deviance, he argues that social groups create deviance by making the rules whose infraction constitutes deviance. Meaning acts only become deviant when observers perceive it and define it as deviant. An example of this would be the act of nudity, it is accepted in the bedroom between husband and wife or on a nudist camp, but when a stranger was to enter the bedroom, or someone was to streak across a sporting event, others would usually see this as deviant, and this deviancy would become a label on the individual. Several factors affect what the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which in turn could turn into a self fulfilling prophecy because of being identified with the label and it becomes controlling. Once these steps have occurred, what Becker describes as the deviant career is completed when the individual joins an organised deviant group and thus accepting their identity of being deviant. However, this is not by any means inevitable and some of those who started out as convicts or drug addicts can become straight and get jobs or quit their habits. When Becker identified that he took a sequential approach he means how he explains deviance and at any stage in the sequence of his explanation it is possible that the deviant will re enter conventional society. Lemmert also uses the interactionist perspective in his view of labelling, outlining primary and secondary deviance, primary being the act before it is publicly labelled and secondary being the response of the individual or deviant to the reactions of others in society. But he sees the agents of social control to blame for deviance rather than the traditional views of the blame lying with the deviant individual or group. This labelling theory has contributed two concepts to help understand the relationship between media and crime: В· Deviancy amplification, Lesley Wilkins points out that a response to deviant acts by media and the police can actually ... People often lived in small groups of only close family. The only way to obtain food was by hunting and eating some plants, because of this people only had enough to feed their small group or family. These people relied on mainly animals and some plants which meant they moved when there food moved. Temporary homes were build with bones and hides which allowed them to move the homes when they food wasn t there. Hunting is just one job specialization. • 5. Corporate Tax Rate In America 1.One of the major issues we are facing in the US economy is how much we should charge in regards to the corporate tax rate. Corporate tax rate is imposed by the government and determines how much a corporate business will pay in taxes at the end of the year. Trump plans on decreasing the corporate taxrate from 35% to 15%. Out of the 34 countries in the OECD, America ranks first with a 39.1 percent corporate taxrate, compared to an OECD average of 24.1 percent. Along with trump, I think that we should reconsider the corporate tax rate. If we were to lower the rate than companies would have more money to spend and put back into our economy. Although I agree with Trump, there are several factors that affect this decision and there are many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fiscal policy that I suggest we use to address the problem is graduated corporate income. We should not determine the corporate tax rate as one concrete number. We should decide the rate based on how big the company is. The policy will state that the first $50,000 of a corporation s profit is taxed at a 15% and will cap out at 35% for companies that make more than $335,000. Using this policy will make it so more small businesses will grow because they will not be taxed as much as a large company that can actually afford it. 5.The monetary policy I suggest we use is to increase the money supply and lower the cost of borrowing. I believe that this will affect how we calculate the corporate tax rate because if a company has an easier time getting a loan, and if they have access to more money, we can make the tax rate higher because they will have more money. Then known as Franscesco, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, he was born to two peasant farmers, Giuseppa and Grazio Forgione. The day after his birth, he was baptized at the Castle Church near his home. The town of Pietrelcinawas very religious and saint s feast days were celebrated throughout the year, this had a strong influence on the Forgione family. From early on it was clear that Franscesco was a special child of God. As child he was very pious and decided he wanted to be a priest at a very early age. Padre Pio s feast day is on September 23rd and he is the patron saint of civil defense volunteers and Catholic adolescents. (A Padre Pio Celebration) I chose to research and write about Padre Pio, because I found his life very fascinating. I thought it was very intriguing, that Padre Pio, mysteriously received the signs of crucifixion and the doctors had no other natural explanation for it. His life is inspirational, because, even though he went through great suffering throughout his life, he still managed to see God s love for him. Padre Pio believed that with love from God, came suffering and suffering for the sake of God, helped the soul reach and become closer to God. An inspirational quote from Padre Pio is, Pray, hope, and do not worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer. (Padre Pio Quotes) This is something I would like to imitate in my life, because this quote describes the basics things one needs to do the lead a good spiritual life. One should not worry because God is there and will protect you through your troubles. In order to achieve this, I would have to be more trusting in God and accept that he will be there to ... Moore s Law Essay Zhichun Yao (zy328) CS 101 D Brian L Stuart 10/19/2016 Report on Moore s Law Moore s Law was first predicted in 1965 and hence adjusted in 1975 by Gordon Moore; and, it was popularized by Carver Mead after the adjustment in 1975. In Moore s first law, it state a hypothesis that that the number of transistor in a dense integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years. The Moore s second law express which can be described as the economic side of Moore s Law expresses that the cost of production of semiconductor fab would increase at a steady rate. In brief, both of the Moore s Laws express the idea that the transistors in the integrated circuit will be doubled every two years while the cost of the production will be halved at the same rate of doubling. The Moore s Law was not such accurate from 1965 to 1975. At that time, the time for doubling is about 12 months when the hypothesis was first in 1965. However, it decreased to about 18 24 months in the last ten years. Therefore, many people thought the hypothesis was wrong. Even after the adjustment of Moore s law, the questions still exist. Many people believed that development of transistors would meet a physical limit leading to the end of Moore s law. However this time, the fact prove that they were wrong. In that following 30 years, the Moore s Law was very accurate. As the following diagram shows, the transistors in circuit was about 2300 in early 1970s. Then it increased to 29000 in the later 70s. Parents are bringing American Sign Language into the home as tool to communicate with their infants from a very early age. Teaching sign language to infants facilitates early communication skills and better interactions with the people around them. King (2017) has research findings that show sign language to be the earliest way a child can develop language skills and connections. Creating a platform of common understanding to children at an early age will help them initially and in the future. Initially, it exposes infants to language well before than can speak which gives their brains an advantage when it is time to transition into speaking English. A child s spoken language is the main goal, but baby sign language gives infants the opportunity to communicate much earlier than their first word. The average baby speaks their first word around the age of two, and the average infant being taught sign language can produce their first sign in under a year. A study done by Bonvillian, Orlansky, and Novack observed 11 infants that were being taught sign language. Their findings revealed that on average, the first sign was produced around eight and a half months, and the earliest baby signed their first sign at five and a half months (Thompson, Cotnoir Bichelman, McKerchar, Tate, Dancho, 2007). These numbers show one of the clear advantages of baby sign language. The difference between an infant learning sign language and one who is not, is a whole year of additional communication. It is hard enough for parents to identify the needs of their baby, but sign language helps fill that void sooner. Pressure is taken off of both the baby and caregiver when ... Their biggest similarities are the plant and payoff technique, and meaningless quests the main characters embark upon. In The Maltese Falcon, a detective, Sam Spade, is tasked with finding a golden falcon by Brigid O Shaunessy. He is not told of the falcon until Brigid s former partner, Joel Cairo, offers to pay Spade for the falcon. Consequently, Spade discovers Brigid is lying to him about her identity, having originally given an alternate name. All the while, Spade doesn t know the falcon s location until a ship captain comes into Spade s office and dies, holding the falcon. This leads to Spade bargaining for the falcon, after which, the falcon is finally unwrapped, and discovered to be fake. The film concludes with Cairo setting off to try and track down the real falcon, and Spade left alone without the money he was promised for it. However, in Citizen Kane, the film starts off with Charles Kane dying on the floor of his mansion, saying rosebud. Then the film cuts to a newsreel about Kane s life, which is dismissed as too impersonal. Subsequently, a reporter, Thompson, is sent to discover rosebud . Holy Communion is the most important of all the sacraments. It completes the Sacraments of Initiation. The bread and wine we receive at communion is the body and blood of Jesus. It becomes the bread and body of Jesus through Transubstantiation. Transubstantiation is the conversion of the substance of the Eucharistic elements into the body and blood of Christ at consecration, only the appearances of bread and wine still remain. Jesus said Take, eat, this is my body after Jesus said this he did the same for the wine saying Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins . This shows us how Jesus himself is the bread and wine us Catholics receive at Holy Communion. A lot of what the narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers, believe that his mind is deteriorating.
