Argumentative Essay: Resolving Conflict
Melba Pattillo Beals from the book Warriors Don t Cry and the fiction Animal Farm has the best way
to respond to conflict. Some of them are, keeping strong and try not to show others they bother you,
talk about it and be assertive, and stick up for yourself and find a solution. Have you ever wondered
why there is still fighting in this world? Well, that s because those people have not found a result to

The Good Old Days Research Paper
We all have heard the term the good old days but does that actually exist or is that idea more of an
illusion?
Good old days is a relative term, for some the good old days come at a different time or include
different variables. Usually assumed to be seen through a child s eyes where the world seems much
more innocent, life was simple. As we move on as a society the past will always seem easier that the
present because this problems have already been solved.
I ve heard people say that the 1920 s were the good old days in the United States because it was a
prosperous time in the economy, but the 20 s had their own problems. The prohibition was in full
swing during this time an edit caused crime and created a massive underground market

Social Schizophrenia Research Paper
There are numerous mental disorders that may affect any person at a given time. These mental
illnesses can affect both the mental, physical, and emotional well being of people, and even other
animals. When the patient s mental, physical, and emotional state becomes altered, there could be
many detrimental effects experienced. Through the treatment of medication and/or therapy, these
people can learn to live with and manage their mental disorders, which could lead to a more
productive and happier lifestyle. More opportunities for the patient s success in life will arise from

There is no known cause of schizophrenia, although some psychologists believe that it could be
caused by heredity, or biological and environmental factors, such as a disease, immune deficiency
disorder, or having an abusive or erroneous childhood. There are multiple signs and symptoms of
schizophrenia, including hearing or seeing something that doesn t exist, a change in personality, an
obsession with religion and other supernatural entities, eccentric ways of communicating, and
behavior that is deemed odd or inappropriate. As with some other mental disorders, schizophrenia is a
spectrum. This spectrum includes schizotypal personality disorder, other psychotic disorders like
catatonia, delusional disorder, schizophreniform disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and brief psychotic
disorder. There is no known cure for schizophrenia, but people with schizophrenia can seek treatment
with therapy, medication, or both. Schizotypal personality disorder is on the spectrum of
schizophrenia because its symptoms coincide with those of schizophrenia. For example, schizotypal
personality disorder shares the symptoms of peculiar behavior, odd beliefs (believing in magic and
superstition), strange thinking and speech, ideas of reference, and inappropriate actions. STPD also
differs from schizophrenia, however, because of symptoms such as being

Living Environment And The Space Of The Home
Kuwait began as a nomadic population in the span of two hundred years it shifted from nomadic to an
urban population. The homes in Kuwait still to this day depict the strong influence of Islam and the
culture of desert life. They have an inner courtyard that a rectangular shaped home is organized
around. With the homes having an inner courtyard it allows them to have an open environment that is
still enclosed. This helps to protect from sunlight of arid desert climate as well as the strong wind. The
homes usually form cluster together this helps to keep the families together to include the extended
family. When families begin to outgrow their homes with the addition of children through marriage
families will build more rooms onto the home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Construction Of A Log Home
The construction of a log home is very different from conventional construction, even if people have
built a home in the past. Planning and research is key in a large project like this. The carpenter should
prepare for the task in all possible ways. In order for people to build a home that meets their needs,
they need to take into consideration the following steps and instructions (Building Guide Step by Step
Log Home). First, the person building the house must be emotionally and financially prepared. They
can start by putting a down payment down, or finding out if they need to apply for a loan. According
to Ed Conarchy, a loan originator for Cherry Creek Mortgage Company, when building a house, the
most important thing to consider is the mortgage, so people need to handle that situation right away.
They can talk to mortgage professionals to get advice. People must also find out if there are any fees
needed to be paid for such as maintenance, repair, or mortgage related fees. The carpenter should have
his or her employment situation properly handled as well. This means they should feel secure about
their job. When building, people should be prepared to stay in one place for a long period of time too.
People must realize timing and readiness are the crucial components to examine (5 Signs You re

After the decision to build a house is made, people can decide on the type of log they want to build

N. Scott Momaday s The Way To Rainy Mountain
When reading, The Way to Rainy Mountain I found out one of the most prolific American Indian
writers of the 20th century was N. Scott Momaday, and he grew up on many different Indian
reservations in southwest American. He first lived with his grandparents on the Kiowa reservation.
Then N. Scott Momaday moved to Arizona where his parents were teachers on Indian reservations.
This exposed Momaday to the traditions of his Kiowa ancestry, as well as the traditions of other tribes,
such as the Apache, Pueblo, and Navajo.
As I was reading on I found that N. Scott Momaday went to college and earning a degree in political
science from the University of New Mexico, N. Scott Momaday gravitated toward literature,
eventually earning a doctorate in English literature from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
I found that alongside N. Scott Momaday he pursued creative scholarly writing, Momaday pursued
creative writing, and he won the Pulitzer Prize for his first novel, House Made of Dawn, in 1969. As I
continue on I found out that Momaday has worked as a professor while pursuing writing in many
different genres: he almost accomplished poet, novelist, memoirist, and essayist. Momaday is also an
active painter, and a member of the Kiowa Gourd Dance Society, which carries forward the
ceremonial Kiowa Gourd Dance tradition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role Of Jonas In The Giver
In The Giver, Jonas was a young man who was different from his others classmates as he had been
selected to be the new Receiver of Memory. This task was very challenging for Jonas at first because
it required plenty of hard work, dedication, and courage as well. Definitely, distant from being an
honor, it was a punishment for Jonas for being selected as the new Receiver. At the beginning of his
training with the Giver, he had problems adapting to his new lifestyle for three reasons. Jonas
renounced to his old activities, his responsibilities increased, and he couldn t talk to anyone about his
conversations with the Giver. Since Jonas was chosen to be a Receiver, he stopped doing certain
activities he used to do for fun that was part of his daily assignments. As Jonas spent most of his time
of training with the Giver, he had no longer had enough time to work as a volunteer. Before Jonas was
selected to be the new Receiver of Memory, he used to spend more time with his family and bathe the
elderly along with his friend Fiona. Your turn Larissa. I ll just start the water and then help you up.

Safeguarding Children And Young People
Safeguarding children and young people refers to everything that we do to keep the children and
young people healthy, safe and free from harm, always thinking about their welfare. The Every Child
Matters policy and the five principles can help us to keep this in mind. These are:
To be healthy
To be safe
To enjoy and achieve
To make a positive contribution
To achieve economic wellbeing
By keeping these things in our mind, we know what is required of us and we can ensure that the
children and young people are being well cared for. Every person working in a school, nursery or
other childcare setting (such as a childminder) has a responsibility to keep the children in their care
free from harm.

The Gantt chart is more a reflection of what happened last week, and what someone hopes will happen

reflect that).
This reaction is typical for many of the project managers with whom we interacted. They don t find
the existing formal planning techniques very useful the critical path method (CPM, PERT) and a
plethora of heuristics, algorithms and concepts elaborating it. They dutifully draw the critical path,
refer to it for formal performance review meetings, but often pay more attention to other factors. This
may, of course, not always be the case: sometimes the Gantt chart is indeed the bible by which the
project is managed. The problem faced by project managers is recognizing which approach is
appropriate for the particular project at hand. Should they strictly enforce the discipline inherent in
critical path thinking or should they adopt a more contingent style of management, utilizing a set of
tools and techniques better suited to the particular characteristics of the project?
There are few guides to inform the project manager in this important decision. Managers are left to
their intuition as to which methods and style of management to choose. The pressure to adopt the
discipline of

Examples Of Hypothyroidism In The Fault In Our Stars
A quote that changed who I was.
Optimistic or pessimistic, these were the two options I had when I was diagnosed with
hypothyroidism. This diagnoses is common in women, but because they discovered it after many
years I was put under observation in the hospital. The doctors were afraid that I might fall into a coma
because of a procedure that was done earlier before discovering my thyroid did not function properly.
After being depressed and terrified, I stumbled up on a quote from a book called The Fault in Our
Stars by John Green and the character Augustus Waters said It s a metaphor, see: You put the killing
thing right between your teeth, but you don t give it the power to do its killing. . (12). This is a simple
quote that changed my perspective of how I viewed the situation I was facing.
The Fault in Our Stars is a book about teenagers who were diagnosed with cancer. The main character
of the book was a girl who had thyroid cancer and her name is Hazel Grace. She fell in love with
Augustus Waters who lost his legs due to cancer. They met each other at a cancer support group and

the positive in any negative situation. This is when I started to take care of my own health by doing
everything as the doctor said. I started to hang out more with my friends, in the beginning I never did

Pros And Cons Of Divorce Reform
In the first part of this essay, we will examine if the current law on divorce should be reformed to

discuss the current law and assess the advantages and possible disadvantages as to whether the law on
divorce should be reformed. Marriage or civil partnerships between two people creates a legal status
which legally enforceable rights begin. If a couple wanted to terminate this legal status, they would
need a divorce or dissolution (Probert, 2015). The basis on which a divorce can be accepted has
progressively relaxed over the years, subsequent to this, the number of divorces has risen (Probert,

The African American Slave Influence On The Beginnings Of...
The African American slave influence in the beginnings of American culture and technology and
Native Americans of the North American Continent were significant in creating America. By revealing
the different ways this achieved, we can see the work and techniques that drove the new country and
how this created by the political, as well as ideological ramifications of their labors. With all of these
contributions to the new country of the United States, we see that the formation of the world power
built on the principles that the early settlers created in their work.
White Europeans who controlled the continent held many similar views. These outsiders included the
Native Americans and the African Americans. Both inhabits were treated in comparable and in
opposing ways by the Europeans in power. The most obvious way that the two groups were treated the
same is that they were dealt with in a very ethnocentric way; whites assumed that they were superior
to both groups. Both groups were not dealt with in the same way from the inception. Native
Americans, who were living in the country long before the whites, were killed, stripped of their land,
and cheated as to their future in the new world. According to All About history (2011), The Europeans
soon pursued their intent to conquer this new continent with brutal attacks and invasion. The Native

Effects Of Hiv-1 Pathogenesis
In the absence of a cure for HIV Type 1 (HIV 1) pathogenesis, highly active antiretroviral therapy
(HAART) are designed to suppress viral replication and maintain it at low to undetectable levels
(Prabu Jeyabalan et al, 2002). Due to their high intrinsic antiviral activity, the introduction of HIV 1
protease inhibitors (PIs) have led to a dramatic reduction in morbidity and mortality rates of HIV 1
infected patients (Codoner et al, 2017). HIV 1 protease inhibitors are peptidomimetics, or substrate or
transition state analogs that mimic natural peptides or proteins and retain the ability to interact with
the original protein s biological target, that competitively targets the hydrophobic P2 P2 domain in the

Proteolytic processing of the Gag polyprotein results mature HIV 1 structural proteins: p17 matrix
(MA), p24 capsid (CA), p7 nucleocapsid (NC), p6 domains, and two spacer peptides, SP1 and SP2.
Each of these HIV 1 structural proteins play a crucial role in the HIV 1 retroviral replication cycle.
MA is responsible for targeting Gag to the plasma membrane and promoting the incorporation of viral
envelop glycoproteins into the forming virions; CA drives Gag multimerization during assembly to
form the Gag lattice that encapsidates the viral RNA genome; NC recruits the viral RNA genome into
the virions; and the p6 domain recruits the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT)
apparatus that catalyzes the membrane fission step responsible for the budding off of new virions from
the infected cell (Freed, 2015).
Due to the infidelity of HIV 1 reverse transcriptase, HIV 1 protease, as with all other HIV proteins,
undergoes frequent mutation (Prabu Jeyabalan et al, 2002). Despite the high genetic barrier, or
sufficient number of critical drug resistance mutations to overcome the anti HIV activity of a drug
regimen, of PI, selective pressure induced by PIs have been seen to be associated with drug resistance
mutations at both the active site of HIV 1 protease and Gag polyprotein (Codoner et al,

Theme Of Power And Control In The Handmaid s Tale
It is necessary for the government to impose a certain amount of power and control on its citizens for a
society to function properly. However, overuse and misuse of power and control in a society
eliminates the freedom of the residents, forbidding them to live an ordinary life. In the dystopic
futuristic novel, The Handmaid s Tale, Margaret Atwood demonstrates the idea of power and control
through the oppressive society Gilead. The government establishes power and control with the Wall,
the Salvagings, and military control. As well, the government s unique use of the Aunts and Red
Centres demonstrates the unfair oppression and indoctrination of the women and potential Handmaids
within the society. This type of control can be compared to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Offred continuously recounts the advice that Aunt Lydia tells the Handmaids throughout her story.
This indoctrination makes the Handmaids become so accustomed to this new way of life that it
becomes normal to them: Ordinary, said Aunt Lydia, is what you are used to. This may not seem
ordinary to you now, but after a time it will. It will become ordinary (Atwood 33). This proves that
Gilead can transform the natural human response of fear into blankness. Oppression and torture
become accepted because the Handmaids eventually become used to these ideas. The Aunts brainwash
the Handmaids into gradually accepting this new way of life. Once the Handmaids accept this way of
life, it truly shows the persuasive nature of the Aunts and the power both they and the government
hold over the Handmaids. An example of the Aunts brainwashing the Handmaids is when the Aunts
make them believe and accept that Janine was responsible her gang rape. Offred describes the
persuasive nature of the Aunts to the reader: But whose fault was it? Aunt Helena says, holding up one
plump finger. Her fault, her fault, her fault, we chant in unison. Who led them on? Aunt Helena
beams, pleased with us. She did. She did. She did. Why did God allow such a terrible thing to happen?
Teach her a lesson. Teach her a lesson. Teach her a lesson (Atwood 72). This instruction and repetition
the Aunts use demonstrates the inequality and imbalance between them and the Handmaids, who they
are teaching to submit and behave. The Aunts also help to establish power and control with fear and
intimidation. For instance, when Moira was caught from attempting to escape the Red Center, the
Aunts tortured her by beating her feet with steel cables. Moira s punishment is a reminder that the
Aunts have the power to torture the Handmaids, which creates the fear and establishes the

The Nature of Discipleship According to Mark s Gospel...
The Nature of Discipleship According to Mark s Gospel
Discipleship is usually thought of as following Jesus, being a preacher and a teacher. Somebody who
believes in something, or who believes in someone, and leaves everything behind them to try to make
others believe the same is my personal belief of a disciple. In actual fact, the Old Testament word
Talmid is a learner , and more obviously in the New Testament, a Diskipolos is a follower . The other
important area of discipleship is serving others. When a disciple is healing a person, they are serving
them, as he serving Jesus and God. So discipleship can be summed up; to follow, to learn, to preach,
to believe, to serve. All factors are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And yes, the disciples did heal, they did preach and they did cast out evil. The apostles returned and
met with Jesus, and told him all they had done and taught (Mark 6:30) and They went out and
preached that people should turn away from their sins. They drove out many demons, and rubbed

disciples followed instructions and did them well. However, their understanding of Jesus and his
teachings wasn t very good. They understood neither the amazing powers Jesus possessed nor the
wonders he could perform. Even though he would explain everything to them , in situations such as
The Calming of the Storm and when Jesus walked on water, they just didn t have the strength to
believe or the depth to understand. When the boat was filling with water in the Calming of the Storm
(Mark 4:35 41), the disciples awoke Jesus to say, Teacher, don t you care that we are about to die? ,
Jesus said back to his disciples Why are you frightened? Have you still no faith? The story in Chapter
6, verses forty nine to fifty is similar. It s a ghost! , the disciples screamed when they saw Jesus

Negative Leadership Behavior Essay
For my example of a negative leadership behavior I have encountered, I am going to use an example
from my current position, and will therefore mask certain details to protect all involved. However, I
assure you the pertinent facts are here and are not embellished.
The experience: Unfortunately I cannot pinpoint just one example, as this has been an ongoing
problem for me. In a nutshell, my direct supervisor, who has a reactive personality, has a tendency to
view all situations with an attitude of how does this make me look good or bad, or why should I have
to deal with this. A situation will arise, namely someone requesting funds from our office, and her
response will be to fly off the handle when I ask her how I should respond. ... Show more content on

This does nothing to build my confidence. It also is in violation of a majority of the JJ did tie buckle

justice, judgment, dependability, tact, integrity, unselfishness, courage, and loyalty. You may note that
I wrote (seemingly) obligatory above. This is because her statements don t ring true in relation to her
behavior. This makes me call into question an additional JJ did tie buckle trait: honesty.
Additionally, her use of legitimate and expert powers, without referent power, actually makes me call
into question the reality of her reward power (helping me achieve my goals). I have to wonder what
she is thinking when her message clearly does not set an example, or establish esprit de corps, but she
speaks frequently of her leadership skills as being obvious and something to emulate.
Recommendation for strengthening leadership behavior: In this instance, I must say she would do well
to remember that a key factor of leadership is communication (Clark, Big Dog Little Dog s
Performance Juxtapostion). Communication can not only build a relationship, but also undermine it.

The disappointment of 1844 is briefly recorded in the parable, by the statement that the Bridegroom
tarried i.e., he seemed to the expectant ones to tarry. And the confusion and darkness experienced by
all, and the many false and visionary views entered into by some who were there disappointed, are
shown in the parable by the statement: While the Bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
Yea, and in their darkness and slumber many of them dreamed strange, unreasonable things. But the
parable shows a second movement, similar, and yet different, among the same virgins. The same
general class is referred to but not necessarily the same individuals. As the first movement was the
result of light upon the prophecy, regarding the time for Messiah s second advent as the Bridegroom
of the Church, so was the second movement. But there are several differences. In the first, the lamps
of all the virgins burned alike, and the company expecting the Bridegroom was mixed; whereas in the
second movement, while all will be aroused, only those will be led out who have the spirit of the truth
in their hearts, as well as a knowledge of the Bible a trimmed lamp. Disappointment was predicted for
the first movement, and waiting for the 1335 days was necessary; but the second was not a
disappointment, and a waiting was no longer necessary; for fulfillment came exactly at the close

Dna And The Creation And Proper Functioning Of Every...
DNA is like the blueprint for the creation and proper functioning of every living organism. Organisms
can sometimes be divided into prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Examples of prokaryotes and eukaryotes
include bacteria and humans, respectively. These organisms must possess a method of replicating
DNA, so a copy is provided for each cell that divides. Each cell s responsibility is coordinated by the
piece of DNA and thus, makes it a very valuable part of the cell and organism. So what are the
methods of replicating DNA in eukaryotes and prokaryotes? DNA replication in prokaryotes consists
of several enzymes and proteins which are responsible for different tasks, but together make the
process seem effortless. DNA replication in eukaryotes is similar, but more complicated given that
eukaryotic chromosomes are linear, possess more than one origin, and have nucleosome structures
which need to be replicated. Regardless, a technique named PCR, developed by Kary Mullis, has the
ability to produce exponentially large amounts of a specific piece of DNA from trace amounts of
template DNA (Bio Rad). PCR has the ability to replicate DNA in eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic
replication and PCR both replicate DNA, so the similarities are apparent in terms of methods, but
there also appears to be subtle differences concerning the enzymes and proteins utilized during each
process. As stated previously, similarities are clearly apparent between the prokaryotic replication and
PCR. Before

How Muscle Growth Affects Your Body After Weight Training...
Have you always wondered if there s a less time consuming way that you can build muscle, yet still
gives you the results you would get if you worked out daily in the gym? It s not exactly easy, but it is
possible. By varying the intensity of your exercise session and taking a nice recovery period after, you
ll see that you can build your muscles with less effort and become stronger. Many studies have been
done on muscle growth. Much of that research points to the theory that you need to rest your body
after weight training in order to build muscles more effectively. It s also been said that muscles can
continue to adjust to their new growth and strength for time periods as high as 21 days after the last
workout. It s been noted by some fitness buffs that they could reduce their exercise time by two thirds
and still achieve the same amount of muscle growth that they otherwise would have noticed with
everyday workouts. Many fitness enthusiasts are spending way too much time working out, which
means their muscles don t have time to recover. This is unhealthy for muscle growth for your body.
Working out too much can actually damage your health and hamper your muscle building efforts. You
may find yourself suffering from a weaker immune system. You might also get sick or injured easily.
So how to you determine how long you should let your muscles recover after a workout? When you
have intense workouts, remember that your muscles take four to seven days to fully recover.

Stereotypes In The Simpson
The Simpsons is an animated movie in America, which Matt Groening created to be used in Fox. The
series depicts a satirical of the life experienced by the working class and the family of Simpson
epitomizes the life. The family comprises of five people who are Lisa, Marge, Homer, Bart, as well as
Maggie. The show occurs in a fictional setting of Springfield. In the series, various aspects are
parodied, which consist of the American culture, television, and the condition of humans. In essence,
this paper provides a review of The Simpsons series by looking into different aspects and techniques
depicted that include the author s use of stereotypes, binarisms and metatelevision (Arnold, 2001). The
review Metatelevision is evident in the series The Simpsons and the element brings forth a sense of
self reference, intertextuality, as well as audience awareness. Since its inception, the television tends
to become meta practical. As such, it shows self consciousness and shattering humor to enable the

English Piracy Definition
Very few people today, perhaps those who have stared death in the face, can possibly comprehend
what it would have been like to stand on the gallows at high tide as the executioner fashioned a noose
around the pirate s neck; the last significant act before his final voyage, a short drop and a quick stop.
The English political and legal processes that delivered this defiant captain and hundreds of others
condemned for piracy to their final destination is the focus of this study.
Their contemporaries described them as Robbers, Opposers, and Violators of all Laws, Humane and
Divine. Many viewed themselves as a more selfish reincarnation of Robin Hood, stealing from
wealthy merchants, foreign traders, and abusive captains, and in doing so, threatening ... Show more

After nearly two decades of anti pirate policies in the colonies, colonial officials no longer deemed it
necessary to aggressively convict anyone suspected of piracy out of fear of losing their charter, as they
had prior to 1705. Furthermore, the defining legal question leading to extreme ambiguity in the
prosecution of pirates during the seventeenth century was at what point did acting outside of one s
commission constitute an act of piracy? The conclusion of Great Britain s hostilities with France and
Spain in 1713 rendered this question irrelevant as the new wave of pirates targeted primarily British,
not neutral or allied ships, clearly defining their aggression as piracy. The change in targets also
reduced the prosecution s need to rely on accomplice testimony, a source of controversy in civil law
proceedings, since attacks occurring off nearby shores provided easier access to victim testimony.
Finally, the increase in colonial newspapers and the dissemination of their publication of piracy trials
reports did assist in reducing procedural inconsistencies, but not in the way previously suggested.
Instead, it was the increased familiarity with civil law and piracy trial procedures within the reports,

Transcultural Literature And Contemporary World Literature
Arianna Dagnino in her essay Transcultural Literature and Contemporary World Literature points out
that with the denationalizing wave of globalization, even national literatures are under pressure to find
new arrangements of form and content to adapt to a changed cultural and social paradigm. In other
words, a mutation is under way within the global acumen of letters where new notions of belonging,
as well as definitions of selfhood and identity are externalized through new creative artistic and
literary processes. Within this emerging social, cultural, and literary scenario, scholars feel the urge to
identify new relevant literary paradigms, especially when dealing with the so called New Literatures
in English represented by the works of, say, Zadie Smith, Hanif Kureishi, Kamila Shamsie, Michael
Ondaatje, or Joy Nozomi Kogawa or recently through Anime with its heavy borrowing of motifs from
western canonised literature and its gradual popularity as an emerging form of literary creativity.
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, anime is a style of animation originating in Japan that is
characterized by stark colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in action filled plots often with
fantastic or futuristic themes. While Oxford Dictionary dictates anime as A style of Japanese film and
television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children , the Urban Dictionary explains
anime as a style of animation that originated and is still heavily centered in

Effective Use Of Cinematic Techniques In Tim Burton s Films
Tim Burton, known for his movies that, most of the time, can fit into the horrific genre. As a result of
his troubled childhood, Tim Burton directed mostly horror movies. He is well known for his films
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland. Tim Burton was
looked at as weird when he was a little kid. He once said Everybody in the whole world has been
misperceived. At school, you wanted something to come across this way and it didn t come across... It
s why you struggle as a child and you draw and you want to create. There is an impulse to be seen. For
yourself: what you are. . He grew up to make his all of his movies with at least a bit of horror added
into the movie.
Tim Burton uses lighting to create a certain kind of mood depending on how the characters feel in a
lot of his movies. Three good examples would be Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Alice in
Wonderland, and Edward Scissorhands. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton uses
lighting to show how poor and sad Charlie s life is. In the movie, The lighting turns darker when the
camera transitions into Charlie s house. When the camera focused on the inside of the factory, The
lighting turned bright to show the excitement. In the movie Alice in Wonderland, the lighting is always

When the girl is rolled, the people edit in a little ground sharing and the sound of breaking stone.

compiled through studying documents from Callaway County, Missouri and the surrounding area

Primary Causes Of Wrongful Confessions
In societies, many institutional injustices exist, whether they be avoidable or not. One injustice in
particular that is very traumatizing are wrongful convictions meaning an innocent being wrongfully
convicted by any court of law. Now, wrongful convictions is one the most corrupted aspects of Canada
s justice system to date. Which is why it is integral to understand the causes in order to find solutions,
there are a plethora of causes, most notably false confessions, plea bargains and systemic
discrimination. One of the prime causes of wrongful convictions are false confessions. Somebody
admits to a crime he is not responsible for. A confession is one of the strongest evidence that can arise
in a criminal trial, thus when one arises whether it be true or false, it is taken into consideration with a
substantial weight. A statistic from the innocence project found that 16% of cases where the victim
was sentenced on the basis of DNA evidence, there was a false confession that accompanied it. This
shows that perhaps the individual was pressured or threatened to give a false confession otherwise the
police will aggravate the sentence. Similarly, 1 out of 4 people who were sentenced by DNA evidence
made a false confession or incriminating statement. This statistic shows that when the the accused is
threatened with DNA evidence, it creates so much pressure that they cave and accept a plea deal and
make a false confession. In the case of Marty Tankleff, he was wrongfully

Final Exam About three years ago, I attended a lecture given by Zimbabwean writer, Chenjerai Hove.
He was an exile from his home country, he told us the story of his life, shared some of his work, and
gave us a window into the mind of an exiled person. There was one anecdote of his that really stuck
with me. He said he was once editing a woman s novel. In the novel, the main character is a woman
who is being abused by her husband. By the end of the novel, the main character remains in the
abusive relationship. Hove asked the author why the character did not leave her husband or do
something to escape her situation. The author said that she wanted to portray real life. According to
her, women do not escape from abusive relationships. This response upset Hove. He asked us what the
point of writing was, if not to change, challenge, or argue against something. I remember leaving very
impressed by him in general, and I was sad to hear that he passed away last year. On a positive note,
this anecdote made me judge the quality of literature based on his belief on what literature should do. I

Ecological footprint is the capacity to continue providing resources or consumption of waste, the
biological productivity of the regional space. It means maintaining a person, region, and the country
needs to be able to accommodate human discharge of waste, with biological productivity of the
geographical area, which needs to evaluate to carry a population of a certain quality of life, how much
renewable resources are available for human use, or an ecosystem capacity of absorbing waste. In my

Short Essay On The Pantheon
The Pantheon, whose name derives from the ancient Greek and means common to all the gods : Pan

dome is a lasting testimony to the genius of Roman architects and as the building stands virtually

How Does Eliot s Use Of Allusion In The Love Song Of J...
I explicitly agree that the poetry of T.S Eliot is unquestionably dominated by thought provoking
reflections which are complemented by powerful imagery, leading the reader into the state of mind of
Eliot himself. Initially, I abhorred Eliot s poetry. His poetry then, for me, represented a confusing and
exceptionally difficult body of work and I found it similarly difficult to form any kind of genuine
response to his poetry. In spite of this, over my past couple of readings, I have formed a muscular
response to his literary work. Personally, I comprehend the poetry of T.S Eliot as being enigmatic and

T.S. Eliot s use of allusion is fundamental to the structure and themes of his early poetry. In the poem
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , Eliot uses gripping literary allusions and thought provoking
reflections, specifically influenced by Eliot s extensive reading of Dante, the poem s epigraph being an
extract from the Inferno, a work that describes a journey through Hell. This poem also makes several
references to the Bible with Prufrock comparing himself to John the Baptist and Lazarus, suggesting
that he, too, has something acute to reveal to the world, although admitting he is no prophet neither a
John the Baptist, nor a Lazarus, nor is he even a hero. One can postulate that it is probable that
Prufrock may not be a poem about good people, but about bad ones professing to be good. The Love
Song of J. Alfred Prufrock resembles a form of a dramatic monologue, the words of an individual
speaker, who is revealing their inner thoughts and concerns to the audience. Accordingly, Eliot makes
use of a number of metaphors to convey Prufrock s lack of confidence and self disgust, with Prufrock
correlating his days and ways to cigarette butts to convey his

Huey P. Long s Speech
Huey P. Long s speech was judged based on his practices as a Louisiana senator and governor,
however it had the potential to be so much more had he lived to continue his legacy. People appeared
to be afraid of how Governor Long operated within the legislative system of Louisiana because of the
fact that, he tended to find his way around legal statutes that hindered his agenda. Some could argue
that he stepped out of the bounds of power that reigns in a representative of a democratic nation,
however he wound up being one of the most effective public servants in the country. Amidst the Great
Depression, Governor Long gave Louisiana s economy a huge lift with the vast construction of
bridges, schools, and roads. In fact the state of Louisiana has not had anything close to such an
economic boost as to what Huey p. Long offered since that time. As time has passed, Louisiana has
become infamous for its lack of proper public education, especially regarding grades one through

Long s assassination. Despite the controversy over how Long executed his political agenda, it cannot

have anticipated that the road to equal rights would be a long and bumpy one. However, they may not
have anticipated that a start up record label out of Detroit would play an important role in the
movement towards Civil Rights. This record label would change the face of music in the 60s to allow
for young African American artists to enter the scene with a fighting chance. In 1959, an African
American man named Berry Gordy took initiative and started his own record label in Detroit. This
record label was originally named Tamla Records but was later ... Show more content on

They Produced some of the first crossover hits, songs that caught on with both black and white
audiences. Soon Motown groups like The Supremes were getting classy booking to play for white
audiences in venues like Copacabana (The Story). Gordy s insistence upon the upkeep of an artist s
style, manners, and diction was based on the style of White Americans. He knew that to sell music his
artists had to appeal to a white audience. Motown records went to great lengths to get favorable press
from white publications. The label was extremely active in promoting its artists and music through
media by establishing a tight knit relationship with Detroit, which loved Motown and fed into its
success greatly. The direct connection of Motown to a community allowed for fans to feel as though
they were part of the Motown team. Thanks to it s popularity, African American songs and faces
entered the homes of every American in the country, regardless of race, (The Sixties). Motown
achieved crossover success by adding the expectations and style of white Americans to African
American artists and the black sound that America had been rejecting. The sound with the new,
cleaned up look of the artists at Motown Records appealed to black and white audiences everywhere.
The crossover of Motown opened many doors for African Americans during this time period by
initiating the acceptance of black role models in American society. The African American base of
Motown in addition to the style and sound that appealed to every race allowed for Motown records to
play a key role in the Civil Rights Movement not only through the creation of African American
power figures but also through the records it produced to aid in the

Ovid s The Story of Daedalus and Icarus
In Ovid s The Story of Daedalus and Icarus , Ovid uses characterization to make the characters
realistic and vivid and to reveal plot through the characters actions, thoughts, speech and physical
appearance. Without the characterization of Daedalus and Icarus, understanding The Story of
Daedalus and Icarus completely is not possible. Ovid hides important pieces of the plot in the text, and
wants the readers to reveal the true meaning of the story by looking into the characteristics of the main
characters, Daedalus and Icarus. With the view of their wants and responsibilities, the story becomes
clear to the reader and the purpose of this story in a poem is revealed. Characterization is an author s
or poet s use of description, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this story, Daedalus can be characterized as brilliant, ignorant, irrational, and egotistical. When
characterizing Icarus, Daedalus son, one of the best parts that describes Icarus is when his father is
making the wings. And Icarus, his son, stood by and watched him, Not knowing he was dealing with
his downfall, Stood by and watched, and raised his shiny face To let a feather, light as down, fall on it,
Or stuck his thumb into the yellow wax, Fooling around, the way a boy will, always (Ovid 14 20).
With this quote, it shows Icarus immaturity, foolish and playfulness when it comes to his father s
inventions and his life. Icarus is a young boy which is evident from the quote above because he is
playing with the wax and watching and admiring his dad. If it was an older boy, he d probably be off
by himself or helping his father with his inventions instead of playing with the wax in the wings.
Icarus is an innocent boy who doesn t understand the importance of being responsible. Not being
responsible leads him to his death, which could have been avoided if he had paid attention to what his
father had told him. Icarus got swept up in the moment when he was flying, and lost all of his thoughts
which lead him to the mistake of flying too high. And the boy Thought This is wonderful! And left his
father, Soared higher, higher,

The Ballet Physique as Molded by Media Essay
mass media is one of the principal factors behind body dissatisfaction, concerns about weight, and
disordered eating behavior ( Levine, Murnen 2009).
The media acts as an influential force where society s views of body image and health are used to
brainwash the minds of its consumers. The constant pressure exuded by the media affects many
individuals in society. Whether it is an ad on a passing bus, or a commercial broadcasted into family
homes, the media finds its way to penetrate and convey certain perceptions of body and health.
Women are predominantly affected by this narrow view. Particularly looking at female ballet dancers,
the media portrays a one sided view of the ballet physique, broadcasting a restricted ideology to the ...

Balanchine s preferences have had far reaching influence. (76) Gelsey Kirkland, a soloist at the New
York City Ballet was known to have eating disorders, which were encouraged by Balanchine.
(Heiland, Murray, Edley 258). Balanchine forced a thin body type on Kirkland; she recalls in her book
that he stopped class to inspect her body:
With his knuckles, he thumped on my sternum and down my rib cage, clucking his tongue, remarking,
Must see the bones. I was less than a hundred pounds even then. He did not merely say, Eat less. He
said repeatedly, Eat nothing. (1986, 55 6) (Heiland, Murray, Edley 258)
This image of the desired ballet body has been a demand by artistic directors, yet the media has
allowed the public to become more aware of it. The fact that anyone has access to this information
through the World Wide Web, creates a consciousness of the issue. Having seen the desired image of a
ballet body, now we can delve deeper into the way media is molding this representation. Through her
journal, Frozen landscapes: a Foucauldian genealogy of the ideal ballet dancer s body, Heather
Ritenburg examines the body image of a modern ballerina, in correlation with magazine articles
targeting weight loss. In these articles, the reader s body shape is talked about as something to be
changed to the desired physique of a ballerina. This shines a light on the physique of a ballet dancer,
reiterating the media s portrayal of the

Romance In Nathaniel Hawthorne s Blithedale Romance
Nathaniel Hawthorne s Blithedale Romance, rather than being considered a novel, should be
considered with the distinction of a romance. The beginnings of the book are heavily laden with
symbols and allusions to the supernatural along with romantic interests, both characteristic of a
romance. Coverdale consistently discusses the Veiled Lady and claims Zenobia is an enchantress,
actually saying in Chapter Six that Zenobia is an enchantress! He continues, she is a sister of the
Veiled Lady! That flower in her hair is a talisman. If you were to snatch it away, she would vanish; or
be transformed into something else (45)! The presence of the supernatural is anything but lacking in
this romance. Coverdale in his narration believes Zenobia s

Planning and research is key in a large project like this. The carpenter should prepare for the task in all possible ways. In order for people to build a home that meets their needs, they need to take into consideration the following steps and instructions (Building Guide Step by Step Log Home). First, the person building the house must be emotionally and financially prepared. They can start by putting a down payment down, or finding out if they need to apply for a loan. According to Ed Conarchy, a loan originator for Cherry Creek Mortgage Company, when building a house, the most important thing to consider is the mortgage, so people need to handle that situation right away. However, overuse and misuse of power and control in a society eliminates the freedom of the residents, forbidding them to live an ordinary life. In the dystopic futuristic novel, The Handmaid s Tale, Margaret Atwood demonstrates the idea of power and control through the oppressive society Gilead. The government establishes power and control with the Wall, the Salvagings, and military control. Oppression and torture become accepted because the Handmaids eventually become used to these ideas. The Aunts brainwash the Handmaids into gradually accepting this new way of life. Once the Handmaids accept this way of life, it truly shows the persuasive nature of the Aunts and the power both they and the government hold over the Handmaids. An example of the Aunts brainwashing the Handmaids is when the Aunts make them believe and accept that Janine was responsible her gang rape. I have to wonder what she is thinking when her message clearly does not set an example, or establish esprit de corps, but she speaks frequently of her leadership skills as being obvious and something to emulate. And the confusion and darkness experienced by all, and the many false and visionary views entered into by some who were there disappointed, are shown in the parable by the statement: While the Bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. Yea, and in their darkness and slumber many of them dreamed strange, unreasonable things. But the parable shows a second movement, similar, and yet different, among the same virgins. The same general class is referred to but not necessarily the same individuals. As the first movement was the result of light upon the prophecy, regarding the time for Messiah s second advent as the Bridegroom of the Church, so was the second movement. But there are several differences. In the first, the lamps of all the virgins burned alike, and the company expecting the Bridegroom was mixed; whereas in the second movement, while all will be aroused, only those will be led out who have the spirit of the truth in their hearts, as well as a knowledge of the Bible a trimmed lamp. • 24. Dna And The Creation And Proper Functioning Of Every... DNA is like the blueprint for the creation and proper functioning of every living organism. Organisms can sometimes be divided into prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Examples of prokaryotes and eukaryotes include bacteria and humans, respectively. These organisms must possess a method of replicating DNA, so a copy is provided for each cell that divides. Each cell s responsibility is coordinated by the piece of DNA and thus, makes it a very valuable part of the cell and organism. So what are the methods of replicating DNA in eukaryotes and prokaryotes? DNA replication in prokaryotes consists of several enzymes and proteins which are responsible for different tasks, but together make the process seem effortless. DNA replication in eukaryotes is similar, but more complicated given that eukaryotic chromosomes are linear, possess more than one origin, and have nucleosome structures which need to be replicated. Regardless, a technique named PCR, developed by Kary Mullis, has the ability to produce exponentially large amounts of a specific piece of DNA from trace amounts of template DNA (Bio Rad). PCR has the ability to replicate DNA in eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic replication and PCR both replicate DNA, so the similarities are apparent in terms of methods, but there also appears to be subtle differences concerning the enzymes and proteins utilized during each process. As stated previously, similarities are clearly apparent between the prokaryotic replication and PCR. Before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. How Muscle Growth Affects Your Body After Weight Training... Have you always wondered if there s a less time consuming way that you can build muscle, yet still gives you the results you would get if you worked out daily in the gym? It s not exactly easy, but it is possible. By varying the intensity of your exercise session and taking a nice recovery period after, you ll see that you can build your muscles with less effort and become stronger. Many studies have been done on muscle growth. Much of that research points to the theory that you need to rest your body after weight training in order to build muscles more effectively. It s also been said that muscles can continue to adjust to their new growth and strength for time periods as high as 21 days after the last workout. It s been noted by some fitness buffs that they could reduce their exercise time by two thirds and still achieve the same amount of muscle growth that they otherwise would have noticed with everyday workouts. Many fitness enthusiasts are spending way too much time working out, which means their muscles don t have time to recover. This is unhealthy for muscle growth for your body. Working out too much can actually damage your health and hamper your muscle building efforts. You may find yourself suffering from a weaker immune system. You might also get sick or injured easily. So how to you determine how long you should let your muscles recover after a workout? When you have intense workouts, remember that your muscles take four to seven days to fully recover. ... The English political and legal processes that delivered this defiant captain and hundreds of others condemned for piracy to their final destination is the focus of this study. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After nearly two decades of anti pirate policies in the colonies, colonial officials no longer deemed it necessary to aggressively convict anyone suspected of piracy out of fear of losing their charter, as they had prior to 1705. Furthermore, the defining legal question leading to extreme ambiguity in the prosecution of pirates during the seventeenth century was at what point did acting outside of one s commission constitute an act of piracy? The conclusion of Great Britain s hostilities with France and Spain in 1713 rendered this question irrelevant as the new wave of pirates targeted primarily British, not neutral or allied ships, clearly defining their aggression as piracy. The change in targets also reduced the prosecution s need to rely on accomplice testimony, a source of controversy in civil law proceedings, since attacks occurring off nearby shores provided easier access to victim testimony. Finally, the increase in colonial newspapers and the dissemination of their publication of piracy trials reports did assist in reducing procedural inconsistencies, but not in the way previously suggested. In other words, a mutation is under way within the global acumen of letters where new notions of belonging, as well as definitions of selfhood and identity are externalized through new creative artistic and literary processes. One injustice in particular that is very traumatizing are wrongful convictions meaning an innocent being wrongfully convicted by any court of law. Now, wrongful convictions is one the most corrupted aspects of Canada s justice system to date. Which is why it is integral to understand the causes in order to find solutions, there are a plethora of causes, most notably false confessions, plea bargains and systemic discrimination. One of the prime causes of wrongful convictions are false confessions. Somebody admits to a crime he is not responsible for. A confession is one of the strongest evidence that can arise in a criminal trial, thus when one arises whether it be true or false, it is taken into consideration with a substantial weight. A statistic from the innocence project found that 16% of cases where the victim was sentenced on the basis of DNA evidence, there was a false confession that accompanied it. This shows that perhaps the individual was pressured or threatened to give a false confession otherwise the police will aggravate the sentence. Similarly, 1 out of 4 people who were sentenced by DNA evidence made a false confession or incriminating statement. Eliot s use of allusion is fundamental to the structure and themes of his early poetry. In the poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , Eliot uses gripping literary allusions and thought provoking reflections, specifically influenced by Eliot s extensive reading of Dante, the poem s epigraph being an extract from the Inferno, a work that describes a journey through Hell. This poem also makes several references to the Bible with Prufrock comparing himself to John the Baptist and Lazarus, suggesting that he, too, has something acute to reveal to the world, although admitting he is no prophet neither a John the Baptist, nor a Lazarus, nor is he even a hero. One can postulate that it is probable that Prufrock may not be a poem about good people, but about bad ones professing to be good. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock resembles a form of a dramatic monologue, the words of an individual speaker, who is revealing their inner thoughts and concerns to the audience.
