Two different projections for the growth of gold open-
access articles published in scientific journals are
shown below. The yellow line represents a projected
growth of 30 percent per year for both ISI and non-ISI
journals, as calculated by M. Lassko et al. (PLoS
ONE, 6:e20961, 2011), and reaches 100 percent gold
OA in 2022. The orange curve, based on a projection
of 20 percent growth in gold-OA articles calculated by
scientific publisher Springer, predicts 100 percent
gold OA articles in ISI journals by 2029. (Graph

32. Wiley & Hindawi Partnership
• In early 2016 Wiley approached Hindawi to help in a new project that looked to
test ‘flipping’ of a number of subscription journals to fully Open Access
• 9 journals were selected:
Security and Communication Networks, Contrast Media & Molecular Imaging,
Journal of Advanced Transportation, Geofluids, Wireless Communications &
Mobile Computing, Complexity, Scanning - The Journal of Scanning Microscopies,
Occupational Therapy International, Journal of Food Quality
• 2018 more Journal is coming to OA.
CAST/AAAS Journal Publishing by Hindawi
• AAAS will lend editorial expertise and their brand to the journal – they will set
up the editorial system.
• Investigating the use of Continuum (elife’s journal platform)
to create the journal site.

Hindawi and Max Planck Digital Library sign framework agreement - 15 Aug 2017
Hindawi has announced the signing of a new framework agreement with
the Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL). Under the deal, all Hindawi Article Processing
Charges for authors at Max Planck research institutes will be covered centrally by the MPDL,
making the process of publishing in Hindawi’s fully Open Access journals even easier
for MaxPlanck researchers. This is an important agreement as it removes both an
administrative and financial barrier for researchers, while allowing them to publish in fully
Open Access journals. This agreement also underlines the strong commitment of both
organisations to the EU’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and
Innovation. Max Planck has been a key player in the implementation of the framework, and
Hindawi’s CEO Paul Peters is an expert advisor to the Open Science Policy Platform that
advises on its strategic direction. Hindawi believes that agreements with progressive
research organisations such as Max Planck – who are helping to lead the transition to Open
Access – help to reduce the burden on researchers and their institutions and, importantly, let
them get on with what really matters – their research.

Overweight and obese populations in Asia are
high and increasing rapidly. Physical activity
prevalence studies have found low physical
activity rates among Asian school-age children
and adolescents. The purpose of this review is to
establish a baseline for physical activity rates in
Asian school-age children and adolescents and
serve as a platform for additional research. Thirty
articles published between 2000 and 2011 on
physical activity prevalence of school-age
children and adolescents were included in the
review. Fourteen studies were conducted in East
Asia, 10 in Southeast Asia, 2 in South Asia, and 2
in West Asia. Studies used subjective methods
(questionnaires or diaries) and objective methods
(accelerometers or heart rate monitors). Although
nearly all studies found low physical activity
levels, it was not possible to provide an accurate
picture due to an absence of standardized,
reliable, and economically viable measurement
tools.

Editor's Notes
Society publishers have a relatively tough choice when it comes to developing their journals program. They can choose to run the journal themselves which could be expensive in terms of people and systems, or they can license the running of their journal to a big commercial publisher, giving away control and identity. A transition to Open Access can bring extra challenges as most large systems are designed primarily to support the subscription journal model.
Hindawi has the expertise and the systems to support a transition to Open Access whist allowing the publisher to choose a model that would suit them.
Being one of the worlds largest OA publishers allows us to create efficiencies that we can pass onto our partners.

Each author has a dashboard, showing the activities they have undertaken
To explain their work
And to share it
Tracked links then show the effect of sharing
Where the publisher is sending us usage data, this shows up in this table too
What’s also interesting here is that you can see authors are using the system not just for newly published work
But for older work too.
