• Only 12 turned up
• Rewarded them by naming a year after them
• In order that they came
• Animals were
rat,ox,tiger,rabbit,dragon,snake,horse,goat,
monkey,dog and pig
4. THE FESTIVAL
• It’s the main Chinese holiday
• It lasts 15 days
• They have huge parades
• With huge colourful dragons
• Last day is lantern day
5. TRADITIONS
• Crowd streets of China at parades
• Have huge fireworks displays
• Dress up in red
• Let off fire crackers
6. FOOD!
• Eat dumplings
• A whole fish is a symbol of wealth
• They keep the tail and the head as a sign for
beginning and end
• They eat chicken for luck

7. DAYS OF NEW YEAR
• 1st day welcoming day starts at midnight
• 2nd day pray to ancestors + Gods
• 3rd + 4th day pay respect to parents-in-law
• 5th day they stay home and pray to God of wealth
also don’t visit family or friends
• 6th to 10th day visit family + friends
• 10th to 12th day invite family + friends to dinner
• 13th day have a simple dinner
• 14th day prepare for lantern festival
• 15th day have lantern festival
8. DECORATIONS
• Have blooming plants to symbolize new
growth and rebirth
• Flowers are believed to be a sign of wealth
• Decorate house and themselves in red
