• Laptops, PCs, Tablets, and Chromebooks differ in
functionality
• Do not expect all activities to work seamlessly on all
devices
• Determine your specific need first before choosing an
appropriate device

3. Personal Computer
Best Uses
• Utilizing SCPS software such
as Inspiration 9 and
Microsoft Office
• Producing documents that
must be printed
• Working with websites that
may require Java and/or
Flash capabilities
Limitations
• No microphone
• No camera
• Immobile

4. Laptop Computer (HP Eletebook 840)
Best Uses
• Utilizing SCPS software such
as Inspiration 9 and
Microsoft Office
• Producing documents that
must be printed
• Working with websites that
may require Java and/or
Flash capabilities
• Work that is best done
within your own classroom
Limitations
• Battery life can be a concern
if used heavily block after
block
• Printing restricted to
planning areas assigned to
each laptop cart

5. Chromebook
Best Uses
• Producing collaborative
documents and assignments
in Google Drive
• Working with educational
sites such as StudyBlue and
Mindmeister
• Working on any writing
assignment that will require
revisions
Limitations
• Does not run Microsoft
Office
• Must use Google Drive for
word processing
• Students need a Google or
GAFE account to share work
• Software cannot be installed
on the devices
• No printing options

6. Tablet (Apple iPad Mini)
Best Uses
• Capturing video and audio
files
• Visualizing learning through
the use of specific apps
• Browsing most websites
(except those requiring Java)
Limitations
• Limited word processing
capabilities
• Free apps often include
advertisements
• Unable to print from or save
to the devices

7. Best Practices
• Test your activity on a selected device before running
it with a class
• Contact your ITRT for training and assistance if needed
• Be flexible
• If you do not need the capabilities of a PC, consider a
different device
• Consider a combination of school devices and BYOT if
appropriate
