● In the past years more efficient codecs
such as HEVC and VP9 have emerged
● Efficiency comes in terms of bitrate
consumed for the same level of picture
quality as H.264
● The efficiencies will materialise in the
reduced CDN costs for the same level of
content minutes delivered
● Problem however is that none of the new
codecs is support by 100% of all devices
and browsers
● So using HEVC or VP9 will always result in
a multi-codec strategy
