2. How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
My magazine represents young females around
the age of 12-20, who aspire to be something in
the future. My front cover image suggests
enthusiasm and happiness, which is why I chose
to represent this particular social group.
The colours I have used are bright and very
feminine, which makes it quite clear that the magazine is
representing a young female audience.
Colours such as fluorescent pink, orange and yellow are
extremely feminine and males would instantly know that the
magazine was for female teenagers.
Using a band image, such as a boy band
image, would instantly suggest that young
females would be attracted to it.
3. From my research, I found that females are
more likely to buy magazines if it includes a
band interview, particularly boy bands.
Also, I have included titles such as
‘Gossip2Go!’, and others such as the
hottest top 40 tracks and other
interviews. These are more stereotypical
female interests.
The name of my magazine is also
female related, as I think it sounds
feminine and something a girl would
pick up and read rather than a female.
4. There are a lot of artists which are all aimed at different social groups and different
people. For example, loud rock music is particularly aimed at groups such as ‘emo’, where
as a young female artist signing solo or a male, depending on the style of music they
sing, would be aimed at a teenager. Boy bands or girl bands would be aimed at very
young girls.
This type of band would be aimed
at the stereotypical group or ‘emo’
or ‘rockers’.
This band in particular influenced me within
my magazine, I got a band image for my
front cover and my double page spread
interview, there music and persona fit in
with my target audience.
5. All of these artists I have found particularly fit into
my target audience well as all of them produce
music which is aimed at young people. As is my
magazine, I chose to target my magazine at
young females.
