2. The target audience for my magazine is both males and females aged
between 16 and 23. This is a social group who may be studying in further
education such as college or university and also those who are finished in
further education and are in work. I am targeting my music magazine at
those who enjoy alternative but popular music as well as attending gigs
of artists, something which is common for both males and females of this
age group. I represented this social group through the article, images and
colour scheme of my magazine. I used a mixture of both candid and
posed photos, with a mixture of solo artists and groups, male and female.
The article of my magazine is fairly colloquial and easy to read, but still
uses sophisticated language, catering to the range of ages within my
target audience. The colour scheme of my magazine is red, black and
white. These colours are gender neutral, not limiting the magazine to
males or females.
3. MY COVER
I believe my cover represents a rather
glamorous social group, this is due to my
choice of image and model. The picture is
posed and the model is clearly not
dressed casually, this represents a social
group of women in particular in the
industry and suggests they take great
pride in their appearance. As the image is
of a female, it suggests that the social
group interested in this magazine could
be mainly female readers. However, the
artists I have included in my cover lines
and my gender neutral colour scheme
help to balance out the representation for
both males and females interested in
music. I have represented a fairly young
social group through my choice of cover
image as well as artists on the cover lines.
The price of my magazine is also fairly
reasonable for a monthly magazine,
representing a social group of a working
class or in the case of audience age,
perhaps student status.
4. MY CONTENTS PAGE
My contents page for my magazine
helps to represent a social group of
young males or females that have a
keen interest in music. I have done
this through the use of my own
images taken from concerts, artists
varying in gender, including both
bands and social artists. The artists I
have included within my page
references represent a social group
of young people who are interested
in new alternative, but popular
music. The colour scheme
throughout my magazine has
remained red, black and white,
continuing the gender neutral
representation.
5. MY DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
My article focuses
particularly on music rather
than gossip, suggesting that
the social group being
represented are more
concerned with the music
news rather than tabloid
style gossip. The image I
have used fits in with the
rest of the magazine,
continuing the
representation of a
glamorous musician.
