1. EVALUATION
Q2.
How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
2. Gender
My magazine ‘Pure’ is not aimed at either
male or female, it could appeal to both. It
could be said that the image of a female on
the front of the magazine would appeal to a
female audience more than a male
audience, however, she is the artist and is
representing her music. The colours are
there to relate to the genre of the magazine
and not gender specific, moreover, the way
that the coverlines are written appeal to
music lovers, male and female. In contrast,
the double page spread features Dominic
Dunn, which could primarily attract a male
audience. The contents, I feel, does not
represent a specific gender as greys are
used to relate to the audience with white
writing which ties in nicely with the colours
on the front cover. Both male and female
artists are used on here representing both
men and women which should appeal to
both men and women.
3. Colours
On my magazine ‘Pure’ the colours and the
image used on my Front Cover may possibly
have a more feminine look, however, the
colours that I selected represent the genre
more than gender or style. I think the
images, layout and colours on the contents
will appeal to more indie audience and it is
showing off the music, the artists and
highlighting what they are doing. I chose to
do a black and white image on my double
page spread because I thought that it would
work well with the indie genre of the
magazine and relates to the music that he
sings. I wanted to add a little bit of colour to
the double page spread article, I thought
adding colour to ‘Dominic Dunn’ to highlight
who the interview is based on and the
questions would relate more to the genre,
this also adds more character to the article.
4. Age
The target audience ages for my magazine
‘Pure’ ranges from 15-24. This is
represented through the articles, images
and the music. I think having this age
range allows the magazine to talk more
about festivals and gig experiences
because it does not make the audience
feel left out or like they are missing out
because they are all at the age when they
start planning going to a festival or are
starting to go to gigs. The audience are
able to interact with tales from the
magazine and begin to make experiences
of their own. The age of the artists featured
in this magazine are also relating to the
target audience age range. Dominic Dunn
is 16 and can allow the younger audiences
to relate to him and his music and Kiki
Walker is 20 which will allow her and her
music to relate to an older audience.
