The document outlines a student's pitch for a horror film project, including a trailer, poster, and website. The student proposes a storyline where the main character is attacked while jogging and tortured for something from their past. Inspiration is drawn from films like Saw and Identity that feature twisted plots and props used effectively. The student considers layouts, colors, and interactivity for the promotional materials that match the dark, mysterious horror genre. A male main character and female villain are envisioned, with realistic makeup effects to portray injuries and a disheveled look.
2. The brief I am working to
A promotion package for a new film, to include a trailer, together with two of the
following three options:
• a website homepage for the film;
• a film magazine front cover, featuring the film;
• a poster for the film.
3. My Initial Idea
I'm thinking of doing a Horror genre movie
My main theme will be torture, gore etc
My main inspiration for this was Saw because I love the whole twisted concept of the
movies and the way the director presents this, for example, the props
(gallons of fake blood)
Storyline
The basic storyline that I’m going to go with is; the main character going on an evening run,
everything just normal. He/she gets the feeling that someone or something is watching them
so he decides to head off home a little quicker. They stumble over and are attacked from
behind. The next you see they’re tied up somewhere and they’re tortured for what they did in
the past.

Movie Trailer
The Saw movies inspire me
the most because I like the
twisted story lines and the way
the props are used really well
to create this 'sick' movie,
such as dark and dirty settings
and the blood and guts etc.
Identity inspired me
with the way the
storyline has a lot of
twists and turns
throughout, it's not
the cliché story that
you immediately figure
out, so I thought that
would be a good thing
for my movie.
5. Inspirational Texts
I like posters like this, with
very little text on because it
creates this mystery around is
like 'what does it mean?' and it
gets your audience talking. I also
like the dark and bland colours as
well, it links with the Horror genre
well as Horrors are usually dark
and mysterious.
Movie Poster
I like the idea of having the villain on
the poster as the main image, because
it makes them recognisable and it
creates a hype over what could happen
within the movie and it gets the word
around about the movie. It also gives
the audience an idea of what type of
movie it's going to be and they kind of
know what to expect.
6. Inspirational Texts
Movie Websites
http://www.thelegomovie.com
I like the idea of the website being
really interactional such as the games
which will attract their audience
(which will be children) so that's
something I could do, create something
interactive on my website which my
target audience will enjoy.
http://www.godzillamovie.com
I like how the main image on the front page
moves (the fire) which makes the website
a lot more interesting and could attract
their audience.
In relation to both websites; I like how the website's colours match the movie
genre, Godzilla being a horror/thriller, the dark moody colours match,
as well as the Lego movie, the movie is a children's so it's feel good and
happy, so the bright bold colours match well. Also, they're all very uniform
and easy to navigate around because everything is in one place, so people
of all ages should be able to look around the website with ease.
7. I think the movie institutions that would
make my movie would be Lionsgate
or Universal Studios. I think this
because they're both very famous
for making Horror movies, such as
Saw for Lionsgate and Psycho for
Universal Studios and I think they
both fit into the genre I'm working
with and the type of movie I'd want to
create.
The target audience I'm aiming to
are males and females 15+ because
these are really the ages people tend
to watch Horrors at, any younger is
inappropriate. Both genders because
Horrors are really an unisex thing and
the storyline doesn't really appeal
to a specific gender.
Since my movie trailer, poster etc. won’t be as good standard and quality as these
institutions make, my media institution would be a British independent company like
Warp or Hammer Films. This is because these are low budget, so you don’t have as
higher standards because you know the products won’t be as good as something from
Universal.
8. Costume and Make up
For my main character, I would thinking of putting them in dark, loose clothing
because they’re supposed to be going out on a run and I wanted them to have dark
clothing as a little hidden foreshadow that something dark and scary is going to
happen to them.
I think my character will be male, so they won’t really be wearing any make up. I
might get them to wear a little bit of powder just to make their face look a bit more
flawless for the shots.
For the special effects like blood etc. I’ll try and make myself or I’ll go to a costume
shop and buy some so the blood looks as real as possible. It’ll practically be all over
my character skin, so it looks like he’s been really beaten up which is what I’m going
for. I’ll buy some fake scars and cuts from a fancy dress shop and try and smooth
them over the main character skin with some make up, so it blends in with their skin
tone and it makes them look as real as possible.
For my villain, the character will be a woman. She will have long hair that will be all
messy. This will make them look all messed and it adds to the messed up situation
that is happening. My villain’s make up will be thick black make up, make it all bold
and stand out so she looks bad and dangerous which is what I want her to look like.
9. Ancillary Tasks
The layout for my movie poster will be
quite simple but effective. The main image
will dominate the whole page and I want it
to have next to know writing. I’m wanting
to create a mysterious feeling around the
poster and the movie and I want me
audience to think what is going on? And it
could persuade them to watch the trailer
to find out more.
An inspirational text that is like this is the
Alien movie poster:
For my website, I’m going to again,
have a simplistic layout with the
links all together in one space so
that it’s easier to navigate yourself
round the website. The colours will
be the same on all the tasks,
blacks, reds, all dark colours so that
it matches up with the spooky,
Horror theme.
An inspirational text for this is the
Twilight website:
