1. VIDEO LINKS.
For my opening title sequence I am going to try to create something
similar to American horror story and the walking dead, with the addition
of acting involved. Here are the links to both opening title sequence
https://vimeo.com/29180214 TheWalking Dead

I have chosen to do this on my own as I think that I work more
effectively on my own, this is because I tend to get easily distracted and I
prefer to have my own ideas as I know that I will like what I am making
and therefore I will have more motivation to create a better piece.
2. AMERICAN HORROR STORY ANALYSIS.
After watching the first ahs opening title sequence I noticed that the
lighting is very minimal, however when there is lighting this is very
strong and shows parts of objects at a time. This has been done I think
to increase mystery and suspense, this is effective as this is bringing an
interest into the show and this is going to gain viewers. This is a good
technique to use as if the OTS is strong then this is going to gain lots of
viewership as this is usually the first thing that is seen, as this is the
opening titles. This is something that I want to include in mine as I think
that this will make this a better ots.
3. ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS.
For the acting I am going to be using my cousin, as I think that he would be good
at the role that I want. He also studied this at a level so I think that he will be of
great help with this project as he has a clear understanding of film noir.
This is only going to involve one character, and I have decided I want this to have
no dialogue, I am going to be using lots of sound effects and possibly produce
something quiet to be in the background subtlety so that this is not boring and
without sound apart from sound effects. I am going to make sure that the sound
is well recorded so that the best possible opening title sequence is made. I want
to use sound overlays of heavy rain and quick footsteps, possibly running. This is
because I want this to be fast paced and dramatic and I think that these sounds
will add to what I am trying to make. The rain is also a common stereotypical
thing to have in a film noir and so this will fit the conventions of a film noir piece.
4. CAMERA ANGLES.
I want the camera to be following the subject with a close shot as they
are walking, for this I will require possibly a fig rig as I think that this will
be easier to use for following the character. I also want there to be more
steady shots that will require a tripod so that I can have shots of the
scenery. I also want there to be scenery shots while the credits are being
shown so the tripod will need to be used for most of this, I am going to
film this in a busy location and I want there to be lots of shots showing
the rapidness of the surroundings.
5. EDITING AND COLOURS.
The editing is going to involve a lot of jump cuts and shot reverse
shot, however I want the prevalence to be of the character and not
the scenery. This could be difficult as I want the scenery shots to be
showing the credits, I will just have to make sure that the times are
done correctly and the credits are not being cut away too quickly.
I want this to be in black and white so need to think about the
costumes and colour scheme of the typography thoroughly as this
could be a problem with identifying what things are and this is not
something that I want to be a problem. I think I am going to use red
and white for the colours of the typography as I think that these will
stand out the most and be the most aesthetically appealing.
6. COSTUME DESIGN.
This is the type of costume
that I want to use, this is
because I think that this is
quite an iconic costume
that is recognisable. This
will also help the viewer to
recognise what character
this is, however I think I am
going to make a few
changes to this to make
this more modernised so
that it fits in modern day,
while still keeping iconic
parts to the costume so
that this retains the Film
Noir look.
7. LIGHTING.
This is the type of
lighting that I want to
use, I think that these
lighting effects will be
good to use. Especially
the top right one, as I
think that this could give
me very good framing,
which will show the
importance of the
character. This will also
give me dramatic
shadowing effects and
demonstrate my ability
in photographic skills.
8. LIGHTING AND EDITING.
These are some photographs that I
took trying to represent the genre of
film noir, these were done of other
peoples stories as they needed them
to put onto their blogs. I tried to
represent the genre through lighting
and effects mainly, as I these were
the things that I was able to control
as obviously I couldn’t tell them what
to wear etc, as these were their ideas
and I just had to work with what I
had. This lighting and editing is of
high quality I think, and this is the
type of lighting/editing that I want to
use for my ots, I think that this will
work well as this is going to show
that I know what works well, and by
looking at these photographs, this
shows that I have a clear
understanding of what I need to do.
9. TYPOGRAPHY.
These are some fonts that I want to use for
my credits, I want to use these as I think
that they are original and they stick well to
the genre. Above is the credits to American
Horror Story, this is something that I would
like to experiment with so that this is a
more exciting ots. I think I will include fire
in this process so that I can achieve this
effect. I need to think of one main type to
use for the names/credits because I want
there to be a clear theme and if I am using
multiple fonts this is going to become very
confusing and could also become difficult
to edit as I am going to have to make sure
that I am using the correct fonts. However
I think I might use a different font for the
title of the film, this needs to stand out and
be bold, I will possibly use a large,
capitalised font for this so that this stands
out the most. The font that is used for the
credits also needs to be bold and stand out
so that this is seen clearly.
