1: In what ways does your product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media product?
For my title in my poster I chose ‘hdgdh’ as I was inspired by the font that was used in ‘The Boy’ and that’s
because I wanted that graffiti look which made it look more scruffy and angry which showed the brutal side
of Aisha Rahim the foster mother and how Gabriella felt with the scratie affect making it look like she was
angry and out to revenge for her death, by using that font it showed my audience that later on in the film
my main character true self would come and they would end up losing themselves and end up being
controlled by someone or trying to keep a secret and that ends up being hard to kept and lots of things
happens because of the secret, which is always happening in paranormal horror movies. Which means that I
chose that as it would be going with my theme and its following of the conventions of other real products of
horror movies. I also chose to have my title ‘Fostered’ to be a large text and bold as I wanted my audience to
keep that as their main focus I wanted them to notice that when they first would look at and wanted them
to know the name of the film as the reason for me making the poster is for me to promote it so that my
audience would know what it called, I had to make it different and standout from everything in the poster.
Which follows the conventions of a related themed horror films as they would usually have the title as a
long bold font and make sure that its very large so that it would attract the audience’s eye so I chose to
make it huge and chose the colour to be black which symbolizes fear and the unknown and the foster
mother Aisha fears for her life as she’s being haunted from her foster daughter she had killed previously and
unknown because my audience wouldn’t understand what is going has everyone is happy and first and later
on the secret is revealed and they wouldn’t what will happen later on, which I chose to with my trailer.
The text in my poster I had used ‘ hsshsjd’ as I was inspired by The boy for my tag line which is because I
wanted it look to simple with the background of the poster and that wouldn’t draw the audience and
wouldn’t draw them away from my image but because I had bold fonts and lots of space it would still be
seen. My poster challenges the typical conventions of a horror poster as my image I made it have a white
background and only used black fonts and I had looked at other posters and had noticed that they would
have different colour backgrounds and make the main image look scarier and by doing that it makes the
image catches the audiences eye. When making my poster I wanted to have to the boys but chose not to do
that as I thought should make the image bigger as I wanted the image to be the main and focus as I wanted
them to notice that and try to understand the meaning behind it. I had to show how the two siblings felt
about each other as they were trying to connect but at the same couldn’t as she was dead, it also showed
that she was looking out for him and wanted revenge. The way my poster conventions of a horror poster is
the way I used my image and how the effects look like a real sub-genre paranormal which also captures the
audience to watch the film as they would want to know more.
By doing my research and doing my essays by powerful social movements let me to be able to use and have
different theories to making my trailer, the conventions of a horror trailer developed and made me
understand as I understood the paradigms which are mostly common in the horror genre and understanding
that it made me cast off each horror genre and more cleat to me know which they would relate to my
trailer. When doing my essays I had looked at four different horror films looking at feminism, structuralism
and post structuralism which helped me understand the theories and out them into practice. Looking at
different horror trailers and knowing Todorov’s narrative theory made me able to understand how horror
trailers are and what catches the audience eye to make them come watch it. When doing my planning’s I
had looked at serval different trailers like insidious and had recognized there equilibriums, moment of
disequilibrium and period of disequilibrium that I could see the affects that was used in the trailer that could
have in trailer as a whole.
Tone cards that me and my group had made shows and displays the horror sub-genre of a paranormal as we
was influenced by the tone cards in ‘Before I wake’ and ‘Unfriended’ but we changed it as it didn’t go with
our story line of our trailer it didn’t look like it fitted with our trailer, as it was supposed to be used in our
first pitch for the trailer which we stop making as we had a lot of complications when it was getting filmed
as some of our actors didn’t come to filming and never stuck to the schedule and some actors opting out at
last minute and they were going through some family issues. This is the reason we chose to change the plot
and made it easier for us to film. In my tone cards I had used glitch effects that inspired us from ‘Unfriended’
as I wanted to show the use of technology and also showed videos playing at the begging of my trailer
where Israel and Gabriella are in the past together and having that affect used in my tone card represents
the connection they had before she was taken and killed by their foster mother. My group also chose to
have basic colours in our tone cards as it doesn’t takeaway the audience eye from the storyline of my trailer,
we the colours white and black to show the mismatch of the danger and innocence from each character
which is shown in my trailer as the Gabriella wants have revenge on her foster as she had killed her.
After having a wide range of research on what sort of horror sub-genre people my age (16-22) would choose
I chose to use and make my trailer around the sub-genre of paranormal thriller we looked at current trailers
like sinister, unfriended and the boy. When thinking about how we would produce our trailer as we had
based in around alike sub-genres. I also find it easy to find the way it conventions making it easier for me
and my group to relate in our trailer. The trailers we had looked at showed a little children between the age
6-11 which is something that we had in our trailer, however we had challenged the forms and conventions
of real trailer by having a younger person playing the foster mother as well as the her mother as it was hard
for us find a parent who would play role as our schedule time was hard them to film as they would be busy
which is the reason why we had a teenager who looked like an adult to play the role. This was the same
problem we had in our last pitch ‘Foster Me’ as none was available to fil on the same day and some of the
actors had let as they couldn’t do it anymore for personal reasons. But if was able to do the trailer it
wouldn’t have challenged the conventions of a horror trailer of paranormal sub-genre as they would usally
have at least3/4 actors as well as the ghost in the film but my original trailer had at least 10 characters we
had realised that was would be hard for us to film as none was available at the same time which made us
change our plot of our trailer which would make it go over the frame of the trailer. For the new plot we had
less people staring in the trailer which made us have time to shoot the trailer and we was able to finish
filming in a day because we had less people and had more times as everyone was there film the whole day.
I had made my trailer production logo on photoshop and made simple it a simple logo that follows the
conventions of real existing paranormal horror trailer as they don’t use over the top effects as they don’t
want the audience only focus on that and to focus on the story instead, we had chosen to have the text
‘vision production’ to have an effect that looks like it’s moving by making a blurred effect which goes with
the logo and the production name and by having that effect it let the audience know more about the logo
and know what production company had made it. Which creates suspense which is demonstrated on the
text. They we had challenged the conventions of a real media product is that we hadn’t promoted our trailer
and had not put recognized companies names in the trailer, to let the audience know that had gotten help
with production of the film as they are usually helps promote a film.
2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
The connection of my trailer and ancillary came together to make a successful advertisement
and marketing for my film. Using the trailer, poser and magazine cover made it the
advertisement more effective and successful. For example if it was to be advertised the
products would be everywhere the trailer would be online like YouTube and on television and
the poster would be on billboards on buses to attract the audience. The reason for making the
trailer is to show audience a little bit of what’s going to happen but the whole film its making
them want more and making them want to watch the movie. My magazine is aimed at a specific
of people, meaning that people that are into in the sub-paranormal thrillers would like my
magazine and would want to watch ‘Fostered’. I think both my ancillary text successful in
promoting the trailer of my film, as they drawing the audience to see what the content of the
film would be.
When making the trailer we used the phone when the foster mother Aisha was trying to film
Gabriella in the to see if she wasn't crazy and that Gabriella wasn't haunting her. So I chose to
put that in my poster I mostly used black and white in my poster and I wanted to show that the
audience to feel the atmosphere the picture I used was Israel putting his hands on the mirror
and you could see Gabriella's hand on the other side I wanted to the audience to feel what they
felt that they couldn't be together as her life was taken away from their foster mother. The glass
represents the barrier between them and they can never truly connect again.
I chose to have a dark theme for my poster but not my magazine as I mostly used black for my
poster but added different colours to my magazine. I used black for all my fonts for my poster
because the colour black represents death and I wanted to show a deeper meaning in the
poster I wanted the audience to see how Gabriella and Israel felt about each other and how
they felt. I had a white background through the mirror as the colour means purity and they are
both children and by Gabriella being a ghost that is trying to get revenge on her foster mother
for killing her at the same time trying to look out for her brother shows the audience that she
has a control which isn't ever shown in horror film as the child should always be the one to be
scared and vulnerable. In my magazine I chose to have bold colours and adding red to it I
wanted the audience to feel how Gabriella felt as the colour red symbolises anger and on the
other hand it symbolises blood as Ashia has blood on her hands from keeping the death a secret
to make the audience wonder about her past and what had happened to her, which lets our film
have a unique identity as we are not full trying to villains Aisha as we are trying to also make her
a victim of the way she was brought up and the circumstances she went through, which breaks
away from the conventions of horror movies as they clearly show who is the victim and who is
the villain.
I wanted to use different fonts on my on ancillary task and final product as I wanted the font to
be the same as that follows the real media products as the text usually different and it’s not the
same person that makes the texts for the trailer and for the magazine so it has to be different.
The reason why I chose to have different fonts for my poster from the ones in my trailer was
because I chose to use an image of child which is the main one and showed the danger through
the poster as you can see I the font that used was bold and clear for you to see and it being
black showed the danger and death to it. I chose to have a lot to space between the letters as I
wanted it to be mysterious making the audience think about the meaning and have questions
like why this this happened to Gabriella? And other questions and the same it makes them want
to watch the film more as they would have many questions that want to be answered.
I chose to that Aisha and Israel would have different costumes in the trailer as that would say
that had used the footage from other parts to finish the film which a real trailer would do,
however Gabriella has the same clothing on through the trailer to let the audience now that was
the clothes that she died. I chose that we should have at least 5 times that he had to change
into different clothing to show that is real had been in at his foster mothers care for a while and
that they got to know each other that Israel started to see her as family. In the trailer I decided
that Gabriella should wear a dress as it suggests that she's innocent through her character, her
dress had flowers on which suggests happiness and purity which was all taken away from her
foster mother, her wearing a dress makes the audience know what Aisha had done to her and
that she's not a good person that everyone thinks she is as you wouldn’t see in the trailer. In my
ancillary task my magazine wears same dress with flowers all over and which suggests her with
them clothes and that she had died when she was an innocent child and that you could see her
dark side in my magazine you could see that she's right behind Israel as she's protecting him
from Aisha and not leaving his side as if he has a guarding angel looking out for him, at the same
time her fascial expression is very straight which looks like she has a dark side on her and that
she wants revenge which breaks the conventions of a real media products as the is always
shown as the weak one and that should be scared and innocent but doesn't show on Gabriella’s
face it shows that she's in control and knows what she wants. The costume that Gabriella for
ancillary task was to conform with the conventions of horror in the sub-genre of paranormal
activity as the child gets killed or dies are always made to look innocent through their clothing
such as making her wear a dress while she's haunting at the same time they are making her die
or get killed in dress to show the persons announce through there death.
3: What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
The amount of people that took my survey on survey monkey where big fans of horror films but
I did have at least 3/4 people wasn't fans of it that took it. Most people who took it that were
fans of horror films meant that the results would be fair and valid to use when thinking about
how to make my trailer, one of my questions where which is your favourite sub-genre and
listened them from what I got I could see that most people where into paranormal horror
followed by psychological horror by having that information that I collected it helped me to put
both of them in my trailer. I also did as questions like what their favourite movie was so that I
could look at the most famous scenes and try to do them. The audience feedback was helpful
and to use it helped me decide what sub-genre we should have for our trailer and chose our
decisions around that. we had a lot of glitch affects as well as flickering ones in our trailer, the
feedback that we got received a reflection on we should make a little changes to our trailer to
make it better like we should of made a deeper reason to why the foster mother Aisha abuses
her foster children so we showed her past and why she was like that, so we added another
scene in our trailer that me and my group had chosen to do in our plans so we put some flashes
backs of Aisha’s mother mentally abusing her which give the audience a deeper meaning of why
Aisha abuses the children.
We had face to face interviews asking somewhat the same questions that we had on our survey
monkey, we thought it was important to have face to face interview with some of the audience
as what they say would be opened so when they are uncertain they can questions themselves,
we chose to have some A2 students to take part of it as we wanted to know what they were
thinking about horror films so that could get some detailed answers, as they are A2 students
and know more about the different theories and which we could use when thinking about
making the trailer. We didn't just have media students that took part of the interview as we also
wanted to know more different thoughts and ideas about our plot for the trailer and what they
thought about horror trailers. We decided to change our first idea for our trailer so we looked
back at the interview to see what they liked about our trailer making us continue having the film
being around fostering, using their answers that they gave us in the production stage of new
‘Fostered’ as they also told us what they liked about their favourite horror films. we also wanted
to know why the people that didn't like horror films and one person said that they find it to be
clique as you always see the same thing the innocent child the guy who tries to save someone
and the girls being scared. so we took that and put in our new trailer but changed it by our little
girl Gabriella to be the one taking control and not to be the vulnerable child as I didn't want my
trailer to be the same as every trailer with the same characters, as I wanted the audience to be
surprised and more interested and doing something new when watching the trailer, making
them want to watch the film. My group and I thought about considering on where in our trailer
the non-diegetic sound we should use in moment of disequilibrium so that we could make the
tension with our trailer, by knowing what the interviews liked about horror movies it allowed to
create a horror movie and what they find about horror films made my group to make a trailer
has the conventions of a sub-genre through the sound effects and editing the shits like having
the fast pace glitches which would build up tension in the trailer and it also made us break away
from the conventions as we didn't want the audience to think that my trailer be have the same
story line that every film as the same characters the vulnerable, the girl being weak and the guy
being the strongest, we wanted the audience to wait and see and see what they would expect in
the trailer.
4: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stage?
For my trailer I used YouTube mp3 to convert the mp3 files from YouTube, which is where I
chose to get my music from, from there it showed my understanding of new media technology
and it’s not had to use and process and it allowed me to use it easily. As the mp3 file
downloaded in to my area I just had to open it and put it on final cut pro making it not taking up
any of my time to edit the sound.
I used YouTube a lot for my trailer and ancillary task, as I didn't know to use After affects to
make my tone cards I had to use YouTube to help me and type in how to use it and watch
tutorials on how to use it, I didn't just use YouTube for when making my poster I got stuck on
stuff and had to use YouTube to find out to do it, for example in my poster I wanted to make
Israel’s body dark and only show Gabriella’s hand which I had to use to YouTube for to give me
the knowledge on how it could be done. Which is why YouTube has been very important in the
process of planning and construction stage of my trailer.
Photoshop the software that I had to use on my ancillary task. I chose to use Photoshop because
I and already used it before in my AS when making my music magazine which made it easier for
me as I already had knowledge on how to use it and which made not spend lots of time
researching on how to do many things which gave me the advantage. Because I had already
used it before it gave me the confidence and making me make a better poster and magazine and
I did also use Photoshop to make my trailer.
To make my trailer and take the picture for my poster and magazine front covers I had used
Cannon E05 600D camera with a Samyang 18-35mm wide angle lens. By having that high quality
lens it showed that my footage and images where in focus and not pixilated, it would focus on
the individual when filming and object and blur the background making the person the main
focus which made it easier to get good footage without re-filming the scenes lots of times and
by having that high quality camera we didn't have to reshoot lots of times, also when filming a
still shot I had used a tripod to make use that it was steady.
Final cut pro is what I used to make my audience feedback interview and the horror trailer. Final
cut pro is software that you can edit filming. When I had first used this software it was my
preliminary task in AS when I had to make a short film with my group. Which made me have a
little experience as I already used it before making me have advantage when it became to
editing my final project my trailer. I would also have known how to put the footage on to the
computer was that I had to transfer the files from the cameras SD card on to the program.
After Effects I had no experience on which meant that I had to search it on YouTube on how to
use it and after watching lots videos on how to make tone cards for my trailer, it helped me get
the basic knowledge and understanding on how to use it.
Prezi is what I chose to my evaluation on for my coursework. It’s a site that had used previously
for my As evaluation too making me know who to use the site and I knew what I was doing as I
ready used it before and showing that had wider knowledge with different digital technology,
also to show that I had used digital technology I had been putting up posts on my blog through
the year of my course having more posts that I did in my AS coursework. As I had put up a lot of
posts this year it made the process of making my evaluation easier and simple as all I had to do
is look back at my posts and see what I had done and write in my evaluation but making it more
detailed.
Word is what I started to use when I first did my coursework as I had to first write essays on
feminism, structuralism and postmodernism and making my timeline and using Todorova’s
theory and also writing 2 treatments and scripts for Foster me and Fostered. My group also used
word to make shooting schedules, casting, prop list and risk assessment, we used to word to
make our work more presentable and it was easier to use as we've been using this software for
years.
Slide share is what I had used for my planning stage of my coursework to post my word
documents on my blog, as I wanted my blog to look neat and not disorganised as it would look
like if I coped and pasted it onto my blog, and as I had used it before in my last years (AS)
coursework I knew how it worked and didn't need the help on how to use it and what I should
of done.

1!!!!

  • 1. 1: In what ways does your product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media product? For my title in my poster I chose ‘hdgdh’ as I was inspired by the font that was used in ‘The Boy’ and that’s because I wanted that graffiti look which made it look more scruffy and angry which showed the brutal side of Aisha Rahim the foster mother and how Gabriella felt with the scratie affect making it look like she was angry and out to revenge for her death, by using that font it showed my audience that later on in the film my main character true self would come and they would end up losing themselves and end up being controlled by someone or trying to keep a secret and that ends up being hard to kept and lots of things happens because of the secret, which is always happening in paranormal horror movies. Which means that I chose that as it would be going with my theme and its following of the conventions of other real products of horror movies. I also chose to have my title ‘Fostered’ to be a large text and bold as I wanted my audience to keep that as their main focus I wanted them to notice that when they first would look at and wanted them to know the name of the film as the reason for me making the poster is for me to promote it so that my audience would know what it called, I had to make it different and standout from everything in the poster. Which follows the conventions of a related themed horror films as they would usually have the title as a long bold font and make sure that its very large so that it would attract the audience’s eye so I chose to make it huge and chose the colour to be black which symbolizes fear and the unknown and the foster mother Aisha fears for her life as she’s being haunted from her foster daughter she had killed previously and unknown because my audience wouldn’t understand what is going has everyone is happy and first and later on the secret is revealed and they wouldn’t what will happen later on, which I chose to with my trailer. The text in my poster I had used ‘ hsshsjd’ as I was inspired by The boy for my tag line which is because I wanted it look to simple with the background of the poster and that wouldn’t draw the audience and wouldn’t draw them away from my image but because I had bold fonts and lots of space it would still be seen. My poster challenges the typical conventions of a horror poster as my image I made it have a white background and only used black fonts and I had looked at other posters and had noticed that they would have different colour backgrounds and make the main image look scarier and by doing that it makes the image catches the audiences eye. When making my poster I wanted to have to the boys but chose not to do that as I thought should make the image bigger as I wanted the image to be the main and focus as I wanted them to notice that and try to understand the meaning behind it. I had to show how the two siblings felt about each other as they were trying to connect but at the same couldn’t as she was dead, it also showed that she was looking out for him and wanted revenge. The way my poster conventions of a horror poster is the way I used my image and how the effects look like a real sub-genre paranormal which also captures the audience to watch the film as they would want to know more. By doing my research and doing my essays by powerful social movements let me to be able to use and have different theories to making my trailer, the conventions of a horror trailer developed and made me understand as I understood the paradigms which are mostly common in the horror genre and understanding that it made me cast off each horror genre and more cleat to me know which they would relate to my trailer. When doing my essays I had looked at four different horror films looking at feminism, structuralism and post structuralism which helped me understand the theories and out them into practice. Looking at different horror trailers and knowing Todorov’s narrative theory made me able to understand how horror trailers are and what catches the audience eye to make them come watch it. When doing my planning’s I had looked at serval different trailers like insidious and had recognized there equilibriums, moment of disequilibrium and period of disequilibrium that I could see the affects that was used in the trailer that could have in trailer as a whole. Tone cards that me and my group had made shows and displays the horror sub-genre of a paranormal as we was influenced by the tone cards in ‘Before I wake’ and ‘Unfriended’ but we changed it as it didn’t go with our story line of our trailer it didn’t look like it fitted with our trailer, as it was supposed to be used in our first pitch for the trailer which we stop making as we had a lot of complications when it was getting filmed as some of our actors didn’t come to filming and never stuck to the schedule and some actors opting out at last minute and they were going through some family issues. This is the reason we chose to change the plot
  • 2. and made it easier for us to film. In my tone cards I had used glitch effects that inspired us from ‘Unfriended’ as I wanted to show the use of technology and also showed videos playing at the begging of my trailer where Israel and Gabriella are in the past together and having that affect used in my tone card represents the connection they had before she was taken and killed by their foster mother. My group also chose to have basic colours in our tone cards as it doesn’t takeaway the audience eye from the storyline of my trailer, we the colours white and black to show the mismatch of the danger and innocence from each character which is shown in my trailer as the Gabriella wants have revenge on her foster as she had killed her. After having a wide range of research on what sort of horror sub-genre people my age (16-22) would choose I chose to use and make my trailer around the sub-genre of paranormal thriller we looked at current trailers like sinister, unfriended and the boy. When thinking about how we would produce our trailer as we had based in around alike sub-genres. I also find it easy to find the way it conventions making it easier for me and my group to relate in our trailer. The trailers we had looked at showed a little children between the age 6-11 which is something that we had in our trailer, however we had challenged the forms and conventions of real trailer by having a younger person playing the foster mother as well as the her mother as it was hard for us find a parent who would play role as our schedule time was hard them to film as they would be busy which is the reason why we had a teenager who looked like an adult to play the role. This was the same problem we had in our last pitch ‘Foster Me’ as none was available to fil on the same day and some of the actors had let as they couldn’t do it anymore for personal reasons. But if was able to do the trailer it wouldn’t have challenged the conventions of a horror trailer of paranormal sub-genre as they would usally have at least3/4 actors as well as the ghost in the film but my original trailer had at least 10 characters we had realised that was would be hard for us to film as none was available at the same time which made us change our plot of our trailer which would make it go over the frame of the trailer. For the new plot we had less people staring in the trailer which made us have time to shoot the trailer and we was able to finish filming in a day because we had less people and had more times as everyone was there film the whole day. I had made my trailer production logo on photoshop and made simple it a simple logo that follows the conventions of real existing paranormal horror trailer as they don’t use over the top effects as they don’t want the audience only focus on that and to focus on the story instead, we had chosen to have the text ‘vision production’ to have an effect that looks like it’s moving by making a blurred effect which goes with the logo and the production name and by having that effect it let the audience know more about the logo and know what production company had made it. Which creates suspense which is demonstrated on the text. They we had challenged the conventions of a real media product is that we hadn’t promoted our trailer and had not put recognized companies names in the trailer, to let the audience know that had gotten help with production of the film as they are usually helps promote a film. 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? The connection of my trailer and ancillary came together to make a successful advertisement and marketing for my film. Using the trailer, poser and magazine cover made it the advertisement more effective and successful. For example if it was to be advertised the products would be everywhere the trailer would be online like YouTube and on television and the poster would be on billboards on buses to attract the audience. The reason for making the trailer is to show audience a little bit of what’s going to happen but the whole film its making them want more and making them want to watch the movie. My magazine is aimed at a specific of people, meaning that people that are into in the sub-paranormal thrillers would like my magazine and would want to watch ‘Fostered’. I think both my ancillary text successful in promoting the trailer of my film, as they drawing the audience to see what the content of the film would be. When making the trailer we used the phone when the foster mother Aisha was trying to film Gabriella in the to see if she wasn't crazy and that Gabriella wasn't haunting her. So I chose to
  • 3. put that in my poster I mostly used black and white in my poster and I wanted to show that the audience to feel the atmosphere the picture I used was Israel putting his hands on the mirror and you could see Gabriella's hand on the other side I wanted to the audience to feel what they felt that they couldn't be together as her life was taken away from their foster mother. The glass represents the barrier between them and they can never truly connect again. I chose to have a dark theme for my poster but not my magazine as I mostly used black for my poster but added different colours to my magazine. I used black for all my fonts for my poster because the colour black represents death and I wanted to show a deeper meaning in the poster I wanted the audience to see how Gabriella and Israel felt about each other and how they felt. I had a white background through the mirror as the colour means purity and they are both children and by Gabriella being a ghost that is trying to get revenge on her foster mother for killing her at the same time trying to look out for her brother shows the audience that she has a control which isn't ever shown in horror film as the child should always be the one to be scared and vulnerable. In my magazine I chose to have bold colours and adding red to it I wanted the audience to feel how Gabriella felt as the colour red symbolises anger and on the other hand it symbolises blood as Ashia has blood on her hands from keeping the death a secret to make the audience wonder about her past and what had happened to her, which lets our film have a unique identity as we are not full trying to villains Aisha as we are trying to also make her a victim of the way she was brought up and the circumstances she went through, which breaks away from the conventions of horror movies as they clearly show who is the victim and who is the villain. I wanted to use different fonts on my on ancillary task and final product as I wanted the font to be the same as that follows the real media products as the text usually different and it’s not the same person that makes the texts for the trailer and for the magazine so it has to be different. The reason why I chose to have different fonts for my poster from the ones in my trailer was because I chose to use an image of child which is the main one and showed the danger through the poster as you can see I the font that used was bold and clear for you to see and it being black showed the danger and death to it. I chose to have a lot to space between the letters as I wanted it to be mysterious making the audience think about the meaning and have questions like why this this happened to Gabriella? And other questions and the same it makes them want to watch the film more as they would have many questions that want to be answered. I chose to that Aisha and Israel would have different costumes in the trailer as that would say that had used the footage from other parts to finish the film which a real trailer would do, however Gabriella has the same clothing on through the trailer to let the audience now that was the clothes that she died. I chose that we should have at least 5 times that he had to change into different clothing to show that is real had been in at his foster mothers care for a while and that they got to know each other that Israel started to see her as family. In the trailer I decided that Gabriella should wear a dress as it suggests that she's innocent through her character, her dress had flowers on which suggests happiness and purity which was all taken away from her foster mother, her wearing a dress makes the audience know what Aisha had done to her and that she's not a good person that everyone thinks she is as you wouldn’t see in the trailer. In my
  • 4. ancillary task my magazine wears same dress with flowers all over and which suggests her with them clothes and that she had died when she was an innocent child and that you could see her dark side in my magazine you could see that she's right behind Israel as she's protecting him from Aisha and not leaving his side as if he has a guarding angel looking out for him, at the same time her fascial expression is very straight which looks like she has a dark side on her and that she wants revenge which breaks the conventions of a real media products as the is always shown as the weak one and that should be scared and innocent but doesn't show on Gabriella’s face it shows that she's in control and knows what she wants. The costume that Gabriella for ancillary task was to conform with the conventions of horror in the sub-genre of paranormal activity as the child gets killed or dies are always made to look innocent through their clothing such as making her wear a dress while she's haunting at the same time they are making her die or get killed in dress to show the persons announce through there death. 3: What have you learnt from your audience feedback? The amount of people that took my survey on survey monkey where big fans of horror films but I did have at least 3/4 people wasn't fans of it that took it. Most people who took it that were fans of horror films meant that the results would be fair and valid to use when thinking about how to make my trailer, one of my questions where which is your favourite sub-genre and listened them from what I got I could see that most people where into paranormal horror followed by psychological horror by having that information that I collected it helped me to put both of them in my trailer. I also did as questions like what their favourite movie was so that I could look at the most famous scenes and try to do them. The audience feedback was helpful and to use it helped me decide what sub-genre we should have for our trailer and chose our decisions around that. we had a lot of glitch affects as well as flickering ones in our trailer, the feedback that we got received a reflection on we should make a little changes to our trailer to make it better like we should of made a deeper reason to why the foster mother Aisha abuses her foster children so we showed her past and why she was like that, so we added another scene in our trailer that me and my group had chosen to do in our plans so we put some flashes backs of Aisha’s mother mentally abusing her which give the audience a deeper meaning of why Aisha abuses the children. We had face to face interviews asking somewhat the same questions that we had on our survey monkey, we thought it was important to have face to face interview with some of the audience as what they say would be opened so when they are uncertain they can questions themselves, we chose to have some A2 students to take part of it as we wanted to know what they were thinking about horror films so that could get some detailed answers, as they are A2 students and know more about the different theories and which we could use when thinking about making the trailer. We didn't just have media students that took part of the interview as we also wanted to know more different thoughts and ideas about our plot for the trailer and what they thought about horror trailers. We decided to change our first idea for our trailer so we looked back at the interview to see what they liked about our trailer making us continue having the film
  • 5. being around fostering, using their answers that they gave us in the production stage of new ‘Fostered’ as they also told us what they liked about their favourite horror films. we also wanted to know why the people that didn't like horror films and one person said that they find it to be clique as you always see the same thing the innocent child the guy who tries to save someone and the girls being scared. so we took that and put in our new trailer but changed it by our little girl Gabriella to be the one taking control and not to be the vulnerable child as I didn't want my trailer to be the same as every trailer with the same characters, as I wanted the audience to be surprised and more interested and doing something new when watching the trailer, making them want to watch the film. My group and I thought about considering on where in our trailer the non-diegetic sound we should use in moment of disequilibrium so that we could make the tension with our trailer, by knowing what the interviews liked about horror movies it allowed to create a horror movie and what they find about horror films made my group to make a trailer has the conventions of a sub-genre through the sound effects and editing the shits like having the fast pace glitches which would build up tension in the trailer and it also made us break away from the conventions as we didn't want the audience to think that my trailer be have the same story line that every film as the same characters the vulnerable, the girl being weak and the guy being the strongest, we wanted the audience to wait and see and see what they would expect in the trailer. 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage? For my trailer I used YouTube mp3 to convert the mp3 files from YouTube, which is where I chose to get my music from, from there it showed my understanding of new media technology and it’s not had to use and process and it allowed me to use it easily. As the mp3 file downloaded in to my area I just had to open it and put it on final cut pro making it not taking up any of my time to edit the sound. I used YouTube a lot for my trailer and ancillary task, as I didn't know to use After affects to make my tone cards I had to use YouTube to help me and type in how to use it and watch tutorials on how to use it, I didn't just use YouTube for when making my poster I got stuck on stuff and had to use YouTube to find out to do it, for example in my poster I wanted to make Israel’s body dark and only show Gabriella’s hand which I had to use to YouTube for to give me the knowledge on how it could be done. Which is why YouTube has been very important in the process of planning and construction stage of my trailer. Photoshop the software that I had to use on my ancillary task. I chose to use Photoshop because I and already used it before in my AS when making my music magazine which made it easier for me as I already had knowledge on how to use it and which made not spend lots of time researching on how to do many things which gave me the advantage. Because I had already used it before it gave me the confidence and making me make a better poster and magazine and
  • 6. I did also use Photoshop to make my trailer. To make my trailer and take the picture for my poster and magazine front covers I had used Cannon E05 600D camera with a Samyang 18-35mm wide angle lens. By having that high quality lens it showed that my footage and images where in focus and not pixilated, it would focus on the individual when filming and object and blur the background making the person the main focus which made it easier to get good footage without re-filming the scenes lots of times and by having that high quality camera we didn't have to reshoot lots of times, also when filming a still shot I had used a tripod to make use that it was steady. Final cut pro is what I used to make my audience feedback interview and the horror trailer. Final cut pro is software that you can edit filming. When I had first used this software it was my preliminary task in AS when I had to make a short film with my group. Which made me have a little experience as I already used it before making me have advantage when it became to editing my final project my trailer. I would also have known how to put the footage on to the computer was that I had to transfer the files from the cameras SD card on to the program. After Effects I had no experience on which meant that I had to search it on YouTube on how to use it and after watching lots videos on how to make tone cards for my trailer, it helped me get the basic knowledge and understanding on how to use it. Prezi is what I chose to my evaluation on for my coursework. It’s a site that had used previously for my As evaluation too making me know who to use the site and I knew what I was doing as I ready used it before and showing that had wider knowledge with different digital technology, also to show that I had used digital technology I had been putting up posts on my blog through the year of my course having more posts that I did in my AS coursework. As I had put up a lot of posts this year it made the process of making my evaluation easier and simple as all I had to do is look back at my posts and see what I had done and write in my evaluation but making it more detailed. Word is what I started to use when I first did my coursework as I had to first write essays on feminism, structuralism and postmodernism and making my timeline and using Todorova’s theory and also writing 2 treatments and scripts for Foster me and Fostered. My group also used word to make shooting schedules, casting, prop list and risk assessment, we used to word to make our work more presentable and it was easier to use as we've been using this software for years. Slide share is what I had used for my planning stage of my coursework to post my word documents on my blog, as I wanted my blog to look neat and not disorganised as it would look like if I coped and pasted it onto my blog, and as I had used it before in my last years (AS)
