Kelly Clarkson is an American singer who won the first season of American Idol in 2002. Her debut album Thankful was released later that year and went double platinum. Her second album Breakaway from 2004 received two Grammy Awards. By her fifth album Stronger from 2011, Clarkson had changed her style to be more mature and composed, straying from her previous pop sound. Her music videos show her evolving appearance and messages of independence and moving on from past relationships over her career.
2. Kelly
Clarkson is the 2002 winner of popular
American TV reality show ‘American Idol’. At
the age of 20 she was signed to RCA Records.
3. Thankful is the debut album by Kelly Clarkson. "Miss
Independent" was its first single. Initially scheduled for a
November 2002 release, the album debuted at
number one on the American Billboard 200 selling
297,000 copies. "Miss Independent" went on to be a
Top 10 hit in the US. The album went on to be certified
double platinum, with almost 3 million copies shipped.
4. As Kelly won American Idol, her next step was to make an album, which was
released a year later in 2003.This was her opportunity to show her fans who she
was. Instead of having the show make up her appearance. Her curly dark brown
hair and casual clothing already showed that she was not going to try and
impress anyone and just be herself. As you may see other artists with really
glamorous clothing. She did not seem to go for that look. She also has a nose stud
which….
The message I am getting from this song is that she was an independent girl
never wanted anything but then she fell in love and changes to have her feelings
sprung open to this man she has fallen for.
Camera: close-ups
The clothing is simply showing off who she is and not who someone is making her
to look like. There is good light throughout the video but specifically brighter on
Clarkson, of course showing herself as the main importance in the video. The
karaoke (TV) and the microphone merge well with the video and the lyrics.
The target audience, I would suggest young adults, as around that type of age a
lot of their life at that point is about putting their heads done and studying and
trying to get things done, not wanting anything to get in the way. Though
eventually when they do let go and see what's around them they begin to party,
meet new people and maybe even meeting someone. This is when they finally let
their guard down.
5. As this is her first appearance since the show their would
have to be close-ups to show her and remind the public of
who she is. The music and visuals have been merged
together very well. As there is a party going on in the
music video when the music was slow and steady
everything around was as well. Though when the music
began to be more upbeat the party began and the people
in the video where having fun and going crazy. The karaoke
within the music video made a connection with the lyrics
and visuals are the lyrics actually appeared on the screen
behind Kelly including other that were in the video. This
song is performance based as she is singing directly to the
camera.

6. Breakaway is the second studio album by
American recording artist Kelly Clarkson,
released on November 30, 2004. Breakaway
received two awards at the 48th Grammy Awards
for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Pop
Vocal Performance for the hit single "Since U
Been Gone”.
7. In this video Kelly has changed a bit. With her hair she
now has blonde highlights. She is still wearing her
general casual clothes and remains to have a nose stud.
She does change her clothing within the music video,
which is much more outgoing. But nothing major to
make her appearance seem much different. The message
behind this song is her realizing what she didn’t need
anymore. She was clouded by something that wasn’t real
and then she realized that she didn’t need it anymore.
Camera: wide shots, close-ups
Again watching this music video she is always in the
spotlight. The clothing that is used in the video shows
that she is mischievous and not afraid to give pay back.
The audience for this song would be young adults and
adults that have been in a in a relationships, but finally
realizing that they need to get out of it and shouldn’t
have been in it in first place.
8. There are close-ups of her maybe showing the
slight change in which she has.
Woman
This video is both narrative based and
performance based. The narrative as she is
currently paying back for what her ex had done
to her by cutting the clothes within the
apartment. The performance is her singing
directly at the camera not only in the apartment
but on stage as well, when she is singing in front
of a crowd. The band is playing the music that
you can hear so that connects with music and
visuals as you can see them playing.
9. My December is the third studio album by American pop
rock singer Kelly Clarkson. The album was released on June
22, 2007 throughout most of Europe (such as
Germany, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands), on June
23, 2007 in Australia, on June 25, 2007 in the United
Kingdom, Hong Kong, Poland and Mexico, and on June
26, 2007 in North America. Clarkson confirmed the name of
the album in her journal on her fanclub website on February
27, 2007. Since its release, My December has shipped one
million copies in the U.S and has been certified Platinum. It
has also been certified Platinum in other countries, including
Canada and Australia. The album was voted as the fifth best
album of 2007 by the readers of Billboard. It ranked at
number 53 on the Australian Year End Chart.
10. There has been a dramatic change in this music
video, she has now dyed her hair blonde, with it
straightened and not as curly as it was before. Her
clothing is now revealing much more of her
body, making her seem more sexy. She still does have
the nose stud which she has had from the beginning.
The message is again about her being in a relationship
but this time, she is waiting for her other half to
make a decision, on whether to stay or go.
Camera: wide shots, two shot, close-ups
With her clothing she is showing her stomach as
though she is trying to aim to a bigger audience to
more sex appeal. The lighting again has her in the
spotlight, all the time showing that she is important.
The target audience would be adults that are in a
relationship that needs to think about if it is going
anywhere and if it’s not just to make the decision and
just leave.

12. All I Ever Wanted is the fourth studio album by American pop
rock singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson, released on March 6,
2009 in Australia and Germany and the United States on
March 10. It was her second album to debut at number one
on the Billboard 200. All I Ever Wanted has been certified
Platinum in Australia and Canada and Gold in United
Kingdom and Ireland. The original title of the album was to
be Masquerade but Clarkson changed it because she felt
that there were albums with similar themes on the charts at
the time, such as Pink's Funhouse and Britney Spears' Circus.
All I Ever Wanted has sold 944,000 copies in the United States.
The album was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the
52nd Grammy Awards.
13. In this video you can see that she is reverting herself into becoming a
much more mature woman. She is leaving the careless attitude behind
and forming herself into the person, I feel she wants to be. Her
clothing is more suitable and presentable. She has taken out her nose
stud as though she is showing she went through a faze and realise she
doesn’t need it anymore.
The message here is showing she is moving on. Instead of being stuck
somewhere that isn’t going to work.
There are a lot of wide shots as though they are showing her
appearance as changed being more elegant. A lot of close-ups showing
When the is a shot of Kelly singing the light around her is dim but the
lightening is mainly focusing directly onto her face. The props used
would be the violins and the piano but there has been special effects
used to show the instruments playing by themselves.
For this song I would say that the target audience would be young
adults and adults. I say this because this song is more else about a
relationship and this area would be the perfect fit. People who have
been in a relationship or are and realise that its not working, leaving
one of them having the strength to actually realise that and leaves.
14. Close-ups
Performanced, Narrative
The violins and the piano gives you the visual
of the music as those are the instruments
that are used in the actual song itself. As she
is leaving this connects with the lyrics and
visuals as this is what the song is about.
15. Stronger is the fifth studio album by American pop
rock, singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson. The album
was released on October 21, 2011 in Australia and
October 24, 2011 in the United States and the
United Kingdom through RCA Records. The thirteen-
song set (seventeen on the deluxe edition) features
Clarkson collaborating with new musicians Greg
Kurstin, Steve Jordan, Rodney Jerkins, Toby Gad,
Brian Kennedy and Ester Dean, as well as recording
with longtime collaborator Howard Benson.
Wanting to stray away sonically from her previous
albums, Clarkson's main objective was to record
her vocal performances as it is heard in her live sets,
and used as little auto-tune processing as possible.
The album also marked the first release by Clarkson
that did not cause a conflict with RCA; her previous
records, most notably My December, were
released amidst conflict and controversy.
16. Kelly in this music video her most has changed quite a lot over the years. In this video
you can see she seems to be more composed and respects herself much more. Her hair
is back to her usual shade and is much more neat and well presented. Her clothing is
very stylish but she is not flouting her body in a way that would see sexual. She is much
more preserved.
There where a various amount of camera shots used in this music video. The video
opened with a tracking shot showing the articles that were about Kelly herself. Mid
shots and close-ups of Kelly to show her and maybe even her knew appearance.
The props used in her video were important, the articles in the background with
headlines about her. She is bringing much more of herself within the video and in a way
responding as in the middle of the song when she is looking on the computer she see’s
the article of her single being leaked but then she reads her fans comments and smiles.
Then at the end she rips off the articles and walks away. Showing that she loves her
fans and also has the strength to just walk away from it.
The message simply states that someone who assumes they know you may not really
know you at all.
I feel that her target audience over the years as definitely increased, as Kelly is
starting to become somewhat mature, though her songs in the past weren’t bad they
were mainly set for a niche market. On the other hand this song has broadened that to
teens, young adults and even adults. I feel this because he songs relate much more to
an audience. Everyone has had one person in their life that assumes they know
someone and think they know what they want, but they’re completely wrong.
Though everyone in life tries to fit in somewhere and tries to find themselves at some
point in their life and Kelly has done that now.
