1. The artwork supports an artists’ image through their personality. It’s all in
the colours that they use, the font and image. If they are a outgoing artist
such as Pink, Rihanna, Lady Gaga then they are bound to have a lot of things
on their album cover.
The demand of artwork has changed very much over the introduction of
new media technology, as a lot of things are now available for download
online. The effect that this has had on the need for artwork is making sure
that it looks appealing and has been thought about carefully. Seen as the
majority of things are now online based, you only get to see the front cover
of the album. A hard copy of an album needs to be looked at on all sides.
2. TASK 2
The connotations I can establish through the media techniques that are being
used is that the artist does not need to have a photo of themselves on the
album cover, simply because they are very popular and his audience will
already know that his music will be to their standards.
3. For this CD Cover I have established that the
artist’s appearance is well known and is needed to
be seen on the cover of the CD cover to be
recognized .
By reading the name of the CD it already tells me
that she is an urban artist as instead of spelling
out the word Birthday, she has made it short with
B’Day. My understanding of the artist is that she is
appealing to men and also girls that may admire
her for the way she looks, she seems quite bold
and she is looking stunning.
4. TASK 3
In my chosen genre the artist CD cover are simple with a picture of themselves and their name and album name.
The font used is not bold but it stands out because it is large. This has a strong effect as they are not fussy about the style or thickness of their
name, but that it is seen.
The image is of the artist themselves in the middle of the album cover. They are showing themselves so the audience can see who they are,
although in these two albums ‘Sara Bareilles’ is covering parts of her face with a voice recorder and ‘Adele’ is looking down and not directly at
the camera which suggests that they are both recognizable without a full image of themselves.
In Sara Bareilles’ album cover you can see lots of colour which may reflect to her album as being upbeat and light, where as Adele has her
album cover in black and white which may suggest her music video is deep and insightful.
The layout of both of the album covers are both simply and the same which shows that both artists are not as interested in all the colours and
their album have too much on it.
The information on the cover is right to the point with name and album name.
