2. What is Genre?
• Genre is a category of artistic composition, as
in music or literature, marked by a distinctive
style, form, or content.
3. Rock & Roll Genre
• I have decided to do a rock and roll genre magazine.
Rock and roll is a genre of popular music that
originated and evolved in the United States during the
late 1940s and early 1950s, primarily from a
combination of African-American genres such as blues,
jump blues, jazz, and gospel music, together with
Western swing and country music.
4. Rock Music Magazines
• Rock magazines use dark and gloomy colours as it relates to the
hard heavy rock music. For Rock magazines there is quite a large
range of target audiences, as it isn’t just aimed at teenagers but
also middle aged people as well and mainly males. Most rock
magazines are very busy on the front covers with coverlines and
images. The font is usually quite big and bold, sometimes it might
also be ‘scratchy’. Also nearly all of the titles are in capital letters.
The person on the cover always has a ‘rock & roll’ style. For
example they’re dressed in dark clothes, have coloured hair or
have lots a tattoos.

6. Summary Of a Chosen Genre
• I need to make my cover & contents page look like a rock music
magazine. I am going to do this by taking a main picture of
someone who has an appearance of a rock person. Also I need to
choose a darker background, to make it look more gloomy. The
font is going to be big and bold. However, for the main sell lines I
am going to use a smaller and a more scratchy font. Overall, the
cover will need to look quite busy. For the contents page I am
going to use a lighter background and put few images down the
side. It will also need to look busy and there can’t be any empty
spaces.
