2. Content
Most regional magazines tend to focus on music or fashion or lifestyle. For example,
the crack mostly focuses on music, as shown here. I want to focus on film, because the
north east is rich in filmmaking but it is never really a huge topic. This is possibly
because the uk film industry is very underdeveloped and dominated by Hollywood so
film isn't a huge factor in the uk, never mind the north east. I hope to change that with
my film regional magazine by focusing on independent films in the North East or that
is filmed in the North East.
3. Layout
Regional magazines have only one dominant image and a occasionally a
pre existing background. I plan to incorporate this simplistic style onto
my regional magazine as its easier to do and gets the point across.
4. Language and Register
Regional magazines are very blunt, they don’t have many sell lines and use their front
covers to sell copies. From this they use atheistically pleasing front covers to attract an
audience. I plan to use atheistically pleasing front cover as it prevents m from simply
filling space. They also tend to use regional slang words which allows its region to be
identified. I will also be using slang words so that my region, the North East, can be
identified.
5. Images, colour scheme, fonts and style
• For images, only one dominant image is used on a front cover and
many sub images are used for the contents page. The images usually
link well to the topic/story, such as a story about an artist. Depending
on who they are focusing on, the colour scheme changes. If it fits a
certain genre like rock, then it will typically be black and white.
Regional magazines use fonts as a way of highlighting their mastheads
and subheads with different fonts, like huge bold fonts for the
masthead, and a smaller font for the subhead.
