Production Reflection
Your Name
• The first thing I did when making my cover for my magazine was
to create the background and the border around it. When
creating this I used the “rectangle tool” (1) to make the borders
on the top and left of my cover and then used “layer style” tools
(2) to add a gradient to make my magazine look more appealing
and so that I can have two different colours to represent two
different things. For example the blue is to represent the game
”The Long Dark” because of how its based in the Canadian
wilderness whereas the red will represent my branding of the
product. This will be so that when people see this layout and the
colour red on a magazine they will possibly recognises it.
However once I made my borders I didn’t like how they when
the borders would meet up to each other it would create a 90
degree angle because I thought it made my product less
attractive (as seen in the bottom left) so to change this I used
the “polygonal tool” (3) to create a sort of ramp to connect each
other and make my layout look more appealing (as seen in
bottom left) After I had made the borders on my cover I added
the background. To do this I first went on the internet and did an
advanced search for a image of ”The Long Dark” to put on my
background while also making sure there is no possibility of my
product getting sued for copyright, I saved the image and then
used ”file” “place/place embedded” to place the image onto my
Photoshop page. When doing this I needed to alter the size of
my image so that it would fit onto the page. To do this I used
”control” “T” to make the image editable.
Process-Cover
Process-Cover• After I made the background and the border I added the text and
advertisements onto my cover. I first added the text round the border which is
ratings for the game “The Long Dark” which I had researched to make sure that
the information is accurate. I used to the ”Text box” tool (4) to allow me to write
on my product and then used “file” ”transform” and “rotate” to put the text
onto it’s side on the border. I made sure that the text on the blue side of the
border is red and the text on the red side of the border is blue so that you are
able to read the text. After this I copied the text and put a black coloured
version of the text behind each one to make the text look 3D and stand out
more, I did this by right clicking on the layer that I want to copy and then
selecting “duplicate layer”. When making my cover I also wanted to advertise
more then one game to make my magazine appeal to an even bigger audience,
so I added a plus sign and then put advertisements for 3 other games around it.
When putting text onto my cover I added a special offer talking about how
people had a chance to win tickets to Pax south 2018 inside however there
wasn’t enough room on the left hand side of my cover and if I put it on the right
it would look unappealing because of how the text is laid out, so to change this I
highlighted the text I wanted to change and selected the “right align text” tool
(5) so that my text looks tidy and more attractive to my audience. When making
my cover I also wanted to add more interest to make my product more enticing
to buy and to help get my audiences attention while also matching with the
theme of the magazine in general. To do all this I added a peace of text saying
“is Hinderland becoming a threat?” put it in a circle and put an PNG image of
fire inside so that when you look at the magazine it is the first thing you see and
makes you want to read more/buy the magazine. I did this by first using the
“ellipsis” tool (6) to make a circle for my text to go into, then I used the “text
box” tool and “file” “Transform” “rotate” to put the text inside and move it to
the angle I want. Once I had done this I again used the advanced search tool on
google to find a PNG image of fire that I could use and not get copyrighted for
and then place the image in the circle, using the “eraser” tool (7) to cut off any
peace's of the flames outside of the circle.
Process-Double Page spread
• The first thing I did when making my double page
spread was to make the borders around the page and
the background. When creating this I used the
“rectangle tool” (1) to make the borders surrounding
my double page spread. Once I had done this I placed
an image of the games map in the bottom right so that
the audience can see what the game has to offer along
with the amount of content that is in the game. I also
did this to add more visuals for the audience to look at
and so that they were not overwhelmed by just a large
amount of information. After this I added the same
border round the sides of the map too to make it stand
out and to make my design look more professional.
• Once I had added the background and other images
onto my double page spread I implemented the
information. When doing this I focused mainly on
the layout, colour scheme and what information I
put in, in general. I started by first marking out the
layout of my information with the "ruler" tool. I did
this to not only help with designing my layout but to
help make sure that the text was an equal distance
apart from each other on each row. I thought that
this was a very important thing to focus on because
not only does my target audience (of 15-19 year old
males) care about looks and presentation a very
large amount but because it makes my product look
more professional hopefully causing more people to
buy my product. First I click on view and then
selected "ruler" once this is done I clicked and
dragged on the new border round to create the light
blue lines needed to mark out the outline that I need
for my layout design. After I did this I focused on
making the headings for my information and
advertisement. First I used the "rectangle tool" to
make the border of the heading. To do this I selected
"fill" and changed it to "no colour". Then I selected
"stroke" and changed it to the colour blue and size 4
so that the border is visible.
