My Goals Upon Graduation, And Where I Plan Working Within...
My goals upon graduation, and where I plan working within the social work field.
Growing up I dealt with many forms of abuse, and due to all the trauma I had a lot of built up aggression. Unfortunately, at the time I felt there was
no other way to express myself except to act out. As a consequence of my bad behavior, I lost many close friends, and missed many good
opportunities. As a result, I was required to go to intensive family therapy for three days a week, with a women named Julie. Fortunately, after
therapy I saw a change in myself, and I began to learn new skills to communicate, and cope with my anger. Although, I've gone to see many therapists
before, Julie was the one counselor that gave me hope, and after meeting her my life has positively changed. This experience of going to family
therapy, and meeting Julie has influenced me to want to help other troubled teens who have dealt with abuse.
Upon graduating from Heritage University with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, I hope to start my own private practice, so I can counsel troubled
teens. I plan on providing services such as cognitive therapy, employment resources, and family therapy. However, I will specialize in working at risk
youth with behavioral problems. In addition, I will continue on with my education, and get a M.S.W in Social Work. I plan on earning my M.S.W. in
Social Work at Eastern University, so I can earn a counseling certification. However, in the meantime I plan on working as a case manager

Social Work For The Medical Field
For many years I have developed an interest in the medical field, in helping people who are at very crucial times in their lives. I have known that I
do not want to pursue to be a doctor or a nurse, but rather a professional with in that field who can aid others and follow up on the responsibilities
and make them priorities, just as much as doctors make the patients' health their point of focus. I have also expressed interest in Child Welfare, which
aligns very well with my personal experiences. It is however for that reason that I chose to write this paper on a field of service that otherwise I may
have not chosen but that I still envision myself pursuing.
What fascinates me about a social work career in a Health care setting are the possibilities that it presents. It allows you to interact with all sorts of
patients and assist them in many ways. Just as a social worker is specified to do, they connect others with services. As I have learned social workers
in a health care setting, function based off an interdisciplinary team, where they work hand in hand with other health care professionals such as doctors
and nurses to provide the patient with the upmost efficient services provided by such institution. Working on such a team where the care for the patient
is looked out for on multiple spectrums, is the kind of work environment that I would like to work in someday in the future.
In accordance with information provided by the NASW 38 percent of social workers are within the

Personal Narrative: My Interest In The Field Of Social Work
This essay is being written to inform the readers of my interest in the field of social work. My environment and society is what peaked my interest in
social work. My undergraduate experience was one of the most informative. The particular field that interest me the most is children and families
because of the depth of knowledge, social workers can gather from working with their clients. Social Work @ Simmons best suits my educational
needs because of the small class size and the dedication of professors to their students. Contributing to the school community benefits many people as
a whole because it develops one's character. The rigorous demands of any time of graduate work needs to be handled correctly in order to achieve the
degree that is set out for oneself.
When asked about my volunteer experience, work experience, and my academic career at Western New England, there are so many things I could
possibly think of writing about. Every single adventure, as I call them, has prepared me for the next step in the real word: graduate school. My work
experience with two different camps: one for ages 8–14, another for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every year proved to be better than the last, because every year brought a new feeling of excitement for how much these kids loved to perform. The
kids in the group have taught me more than I ever knew about myself. They have allowed me to be myself around them even if I am a little different.
Furthermore, they have taught me that diversity is okay and something worth embracing everywhere. Moreover, working in summer camps has
always given me the opportunity to get to know the true person in some of the kids I have worked with. There is always someone in the group who
feels the they have to put on this tough guy, macho look when they should know that it is okay to express your feelings and be a little sensitive

The field of social work touches the lives of every American. According to the National Association of Social Workers, "social work is the
professional activity of helping individuals, groups, or communities to enhance or restore their capacity for social functioning and to create societal
conditions favorable to their goals."(Zastrow p.34) The focus or purpose of social work is to help meet the basic needs of people, especially those in
need to obtain services; counseling and psychotherapy of individuals, families and groups; helping community and groups to provide or improve social
and health services; and participate in the improvement and development of social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social workers should aspire to contribute to the knowledge base of the profession."
(NASW)
Social work is based on an understanding of knowledge, values and skills. Social workers wear many hats, and work with many different people,
so therefore, they need to be experienced and knowledgeable in many different areas to effectively problem solve. Social workers must know how
to work with people on the Micro, Mezzo and Macro levels. A social worker needs to understand different cultural values and the diverse
differences in the people which they may be helping. They need to have a basic understanding of psychology, biology and public policy. They need
to have an understanding of poverty and how it effects our society and what resources are available to those who might need them. A social worker
should be very knowledgeable about the populations they are working with, what the needs of the client might be, what might help or hurt, and what
resources may be available to better help those individuals or groups. The social worker should always be striving to learn, and to be as knowledgeable
as possible in their area of practice. (NASW)(Zastrow)
Some of the skills that are important to develop as a social worker are empathy, respect, authenticity, boundary setting, active listening, communication,
social perceptiveness, self–awareness, organization, coordination, persuasion, advocacy, relaxation, and self–control. Empathy is

I Want To Be In The Field Of Social Work
Social Work My personality type was ESFP. ESFPs love people, telling stories and having fun. They are outgoing, and they love to entertain. Most of
the traits that ESFPs generally have describe me, those traits include the following: value people's feelings, independent and resourceful, they hate
structure and routine, feel special bond with children and animals, and they have great people skills. The career I have chosen is social work. I feel that
my personality would really fit in well with this career. To be in the field of social work you have to be able to connect with people and be able to

Pursuing The Social Work Field Of Education Essay
It took a long time and a lot of careful thinking to decide to pursue the Social Work field of education now. Although I attempted to pursue my
Masters in Education 16 years ago, I discontinued that program due to the realization that I was not mature enough to keep balancing school
demands along with my full time workload. Reflecting back, I was more pursuing my Masters for the purpose of pleasing my family considering I
was the first female in my family to even graduate with a Bachelors here in the United States. Fast forward, 16 years later, I've concluded that
furthering my education with a Masters in Social Work is the best match and fit to continue enhancing my career in social services. As a Mental
Health Rehabilitation Specialist providing supported employment services, I support and guide my clients by taking steps toward their own career
goals. I have found my purpose in life, which is to support transformation in others by connecting any type of community resource they may need in
order to overcome their barriers toward their career choice. I have seen first hand how "work is therapy" and knowing that I supported and
contributed to my client's career plan, gives me the drive to keep enhancing my skills to impact my community even more. I am highly motivated to
pursue a Masters in Social Work so I may have the access and ability to build and manage a team or organization that is just as passionate in
supporting and guiding others. I'm also eager to provide

Pros and Cons of Different Fields in Social Work
Earning my bachelor's in human services will lead into my career in the field of social work. The field of social work is nothing new: Simon
Patten coined the term social workers in 1900 (Robert 1995). Literature on aspects of the field, how to get involved in social work, and what type of
work a social worker performs will be included in my research. For the purpose of this review, I will focus my research on current information, 2008 to
current.
The major theme of my research includes looking at the positives and negatives of different fields in social work. Another part of my research will
include, how I will earn my graduate degree once I graduate from ODU, along with the jobs outlook and descriptions for each field. This is ... Show

A challenge of going onto get a master's degree is the cost. In some of my research I found that 70% of social workers are in debt from school
(Notabartolo, 2010). Job growth for social work is expected to grow 16% by 2018 (Notabartolo, 2010), which keeps me optimistic for finding a job and
paying off my student loans. The average salary for a social work ranges depending on what field of social work he or she is working in. The fields
that I will focus on earn an average of $50,000 annually (Notabartolo, 2010).
Fields of Social Work I plan on pursing a career in the field of social work that focuses on working with children. "16% out of the countries half
million social workers work in child services (Children and Families, 2014)." A career in children services will entail working one on one with
families and helping solve their issues. Social workers work with families who suffer with abuse, mental illness, and physical illnesses (Mental
health, 2011). According to the national association of social workers' website, children and family services jobs include: counseling families,
removing children from abusive homes and relocating them, teaching families how to use the welfare system (Children and Families 2014). In order
to work with children a person needs to have compassion, patients, and understanding. Those three skills are critical in order to make a difference in
the lives of the children in need. An article written by Phillip Dybicz talks

Kathleen M. Gilbert is a social worker for Little Flower Children and Family Services in Jamaica, New York. Ms. Gilbert works in the mental health
field of social work as a psychotherapist part time where she provides counseling and emotional support on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays in the
late afternoons and evenings. Alongside social work, Ms. Gilbert is an instructor at Nassau Community College. She has been employed at Nassau
Community College and Little Flower Children and Family for ten years. She found out about the agency through a friend that was already in the
business of social work. Beginning her college experience, she started out double majoring in both the field of public health and French, after her
bachelors she was able to receive her master's in public health. Desiring a change, she got her masters in social work and was grandfathered in as a
LCSWR. At one point, she was also grandfathered in to be a CASAC, which is a credential for substance abuse and alcohol counseling, and aided
clients through all aspects of addiction and dependency. Her time as a CASAC was done through a community organization and she was the
chairperson of the Brooklyn committee of alcoholism. Aside from providing psychotherapy services, she also gives referrals for adjunct services and
makes home visits. Although she is no longer in the public health field directly, she has used her knowledge of counseling and education in public
health to aid her in social work.

The Field of Social Work and Evidence-Based-Practice
The writings of advocates of EBP demonstrate that a shift is taking place in the social work field towards a more integrated approach where "social
work is an applied, empirically grounded social and cultural science aiming at both causal explanation and interpretive understanding" (Otto & Zeigler,
2008, p. 273). Talking about the limits of RCTs they suggest that "Typically, the experimental design is not able to control for the effects of
worker–client dynamics and client characteristics that are not clearly defined, understood or measurable" (Cnaan & Dichter, 2008 p. 281). They go on
to say: that there is a need for some sort of feedback process where the fit between the practice needs and the effectiveness of the intervention are...

analyses, technologically sophisticated as well as profoundly simple ways of communicating through stories, metaphors, anecdotes, artistic expression,

A way for professional social work culture and institutional structure to further the cause of practice–research integration would be for them to
embrace the contributions of both academic and practitioner–researchers alike. Then collaborations such as these would incorporate projects that are
research–driven, where practitioners assist the work of researchers and practice–driven projects in which researchers act as consultants to practitioners.
Institutional arrangements such as these would have the effect of empowering practitioners as "co–creators of social work knowledge rather than
disempowering them by emphasizing their knowledge–building incapacities or treating them merely as guideline implementers" (Epstein, 2009 p. 227).

The Work Of The Healthcare Field
"Hey I'm going to need you to stay over a few extra hours" is something that most workers hear more often than not. Working long shifts without a
break can drain you mentally and physically. There are many cases of workplace bullying. There are also various amounts of websites dedicated to
helping victims of workplace bullying. A personal interview with Amber Mann, a 20–year–old coworker of mine at Sunset Village Retirement Homes,
talked about how poor treatment at work affects how she perseveres through the grueling hours of a horrible work week. How you get treated at work
can affect how you work, your mood and your all around feelings of being there. Being an employee in an environment that is not pleasant has a lot of
setbacks when it comes to the work that is getting done. The healthcare field is a demanding twenty–four hour a day job. When there is a snow storm
or someone is sick and cannot work it's not as simple as closing the door and shutting down the facility. So when there is a call off or short staffing
than the usual "your workplace needs you" motive is instilled and the guilt sets in. Upon completing eight hours of work and to be told you are
forced over another eight hours when it was never planned is very harsh and frustrating. There are no incentives to staying over either, it's as simple
as stay or get reprimanded. As an employee at Sunset Village Retirement Home people who are employed at this facility are being worked till they
simply can

Fields Of Practice In Social Work
The first concept of generalist practice is the acquisition of an eclectic knowledge base. Because the field of social work is constantly growing and
evolving, generalist social workers must have a broad range of knowledge in order to effectively help clients who have a variety of needs to be met.
There are eight specific eclectic knowledge bases listed as the following: fields of practice, systems theory, the ecological perspective, human behavior
and the social environment, social welfare policy and policy practice, social work practice, research–informed practice and practice–informed research,
and values and principles that guide practice. The first knowledge base, fields of practice, is the understanding of the numerous areas of social ... Show

The third knowledge base is the ecological perspective which "refers to living, dynamic interactions" between people and their respective
environments. An understanding of this perspective involves the realization that people have their own contexts in their social environments. The
fourth knowledge base is the understanding of human behavior and the social environment, which requires the awareness that people are constantly
interacting with one another in accordance to their immediate, social environment. A social worker that understands HBSE would look not only at
the client as the sole problem of a situation but would also assess and explore the surrounding influences from the client's environment. The fifth
knowledge base is social welfare policy and policy practice. Social welfare policies set the regulations of what types of social programs are available
and to whom they are available. Generalist social workers must be experienced in the knowledge of these policies in order to successfully link clients
to the resources that they are eligible to

Reflection Paper On Field Work
Waiting to find out my internship placement, interviewing with my placement, and starting work has been the most exciting part of my graduate
education to date. I was placed with Walton County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and started working with them in the
last week of September. The transition from the classroom to the field has been smooth with my classes having equipped me for the field work I
have already done and hopefully for the field work to come. While the transition from classroom to field has been smooth, it has been drastically
different working with DFCS from reading in textbooks and class lectures. At my field placement, I have been able to interact with clients and get
to know them on a first name basis. Meeting real clients has been fascinating. Not only do I get to learn about what is going on in their lives, I also
get to learn about how they feel about it, what they think about it, and see their expressions and emotions as they relay this information to me. Face to
face interaction with a client is unlike anything that can be gathered from a textbook. We have textbooks that give scenarios and scripted interviews,
but a book is never able to fully capture the same experience as when you actually talk to a client. Even if a client's problem(s) may not be that
"interesting" I find it captivating to speak with someone and learn about what they are going through, then to read about worst situation possible
scenarios for clients in

The field of social work has experienced an increased awareness of the need to advanced in both educational and professional development. I realize
that preparation for this career actually includes a great deal of required coursework and hours of field experience. My fieldwork is central to my
learning and serves as an integrative experience in which I use what was previously learned in class and apply it to my practice experience.
I am currently in a very rewarding field study at the Osborne Association, Training to Work Program. Training to Work offers mentorship and
opportunities to both men and women who are on work release. The program is designed to reduce the rate of recidivism and to assist participants in
gaining meaningful employment and trainings. This experience requires considerable amount of meeting with participants and providing support,
empowerment and advocacy.

The Importance Of A Social Work Field
The social work field is solely dedicated to the giving back of others. A person in the career must be willing to spend hours working to make
differences in clients' lives. Children and family social work can be a very rewarding profession but yet challenging at times. Employees help others in
need, advocate for important causes, and all around make positive impacts in the world. Many people interested in social work have personal
motivations from their own lives steering them towards the profession of giving back (Unwinn and Hogg). People who are wanting to make positive
changes in the lives of others are attracted to this career (Vu). To be successful, one must have a strong passion for helping others (Campus Explorer).
Specific skills required are active listening, speaking, reading comprehension, social perceptiveness, critical thinking, monitoring, and service
orientation (Career Info). Workers must know how to handle personal services in order to build and strengthen relationships with clients (Career Info).
Knowledge in sociology and anthropology is beneficial to every child and family social worker (Career Info). All social workers in general must have
a good understanding of psychology, human behavior, and differences in individuals (Career Info). Therapy and counseling are two major factors that
play into this field (Career Info). Workers must know correct procedures and guidance steps (Career Info). Children and family social workers must

My Vision Of The Social Work Field
My vision of the social work field is being able to help people in need and being the person that people can look back on and remember as a huge help
in time of need. I think my core values and beliefs will help me be an effective social worker and help me succeed in this field. It is in my belief that
a person should never be knocked down when they are going through hardships, and rather empowering them. I also believe that not everyone could
be a social worker because it takes a certain kind of empathetic and self–aware person. I truly believe that my upbringing has humbled me to understand
and not be judgmental of people's issues since I've seen a lot in my short twenty–one years. I think a core value that aligns and is very useful in the
field that I acquire is being aware of a person's dignity and worth. I am the kind of person that treats a very wealthy person and a homeless person
equally, I don't believe that people are better than others in any circumstance. I also grew up in an extremely diverse community which has allowed
me to think broadly and not have a person's culture, ethnicity, or other differences effect my perception of them. "Social workers treat each person in a
caring and respectful fashion, mindful of individual differences and cultural and ethnic diversity" (NASW, 2008). I think this is one of the most
important values in social work because a worker simply cannot provide the best service if their differences can't be put to the side. I believe

My Interest On The Field Of Social Work Field
My interest in the field of social work field began with personal experiences early in childhood. Not only did I obtain firsthand knowledge about
mental health from therapists, but I was also thrust into a helping role as a teenager. When I was a child, my mother received therapy from a social
worker and a psychiatrist after my grandparents after she entered a mental hospital following a suicide attempt. Although the social worker referred my
mother to a psychiatrist for an official diagnosis of depression and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) as well for medication, she provided therapy
after my mother began treatment and continued for several years. During my teens, my mother decided that she wanted to discontinue taking her
medications, as her antidepressants had many unpleasant side effects. While my grandparents initially disagreed with her decision–they feared that
going off medication would lead to withdrawal symptoms of suicidal thoughts and/or physical sickness. As a family of four, we decided as a group
and in consultation with doctors that if she was determined to taper off her medications, she would need to spend more time in therapy to ensure
monitoring of her symptoms or subsequent behavioral problems. Out of a desire to help my mother strengthen her mental health, I chose to play a
helping role in her journey. Prior to her desire to taper off her medications, I stayed at home during her therapy sessions. With the consent of her
therapist, I attended a few

means of viewing development throughout the lifespan. These theories can be applied to individuals to give a more concrete understanding of certain
behaviors and where they stem from. This paper will attempt to gain a better understanding of a case study by applying relevant theories to childhood
development and behavior. Case Description Identifying Information Paikea is an 11–year–old female from the Maori tribe of New Zealand. She has

The Association Between My Social Work Classes And My...
The objective of this composition is to discuss the association between my social work classes and my field experience. An internship is a platform to
provide real–world involvement of students in a field or occupation. Classroom lectures that involved lessons and exercises on the social work
profession were meaningful to me as a student. They brought insight into policies, laws, research, and methods that I will need to utilize in the social
work profession. My field internship at Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) provides me the opportunity to connect the classroom lectures and
real–world involvement in the social work occupation.
More so, to discuss the entirety of the connection between my classroom lectures and my internship would be lengthy and difficult to accomplish.
However, I will discuss the aspects that were instantly noticeable that would be difficult to notice without the classroom lectures on the social
worker occupation. For instance, one thing I learned about social work, I learned from my Intervention Method in the Helping Profession class. In
the class taught by Dr. Hodges, I learned about client empowerment. In the book assigned to the class client empowerment is defined as to enhance
the capacity, or power, of clients to address their life concerns (Walsh, 2009, p.16). I interpret this concept as a social worker that we are to develop a
positive sense self–worth and competence about their life. I observed in my field placement at UMD by addressing

There are many interesting and role model worthy people in the field of social work and social justice in general. A few of these people include:
Francis Feldman, Charles Loring Brace, Grace Abbott, and many more. All of these people are worth of talking about when thinking of the idea of my
personal role model, but I find one woman to stand out more than the others. She is the woman who started many social justice movements. This
woman is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and "demonstrated the ethics and values that became the basis of the 100–year–old social work
profession" ("Jane Addams", 1998). She accomplished a lot in her life time and I can only hope to accomplish half of what she did. This woman that I
am speaking about is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1889, the two leased the house built by Charles Hull and began one of the most important and successful things that Addams did in her lifetime.
Adams and Starr "made speeches about the needs of the neighborhood, raised money, convinced young women of well–to–do families to help, took
care of children, nursed the sick, listened to outpourings from troubled people" ("Jane Addams– Biographical, n.d.). This same article states that by its
second year of existence, the Hull House hosted around two thousand people a week. The Hull House "consisted of eighteen national groups: Italian,
Greek, Mexican, British, Scandinavian, Polish, German, Russian, Czechoslovakian, French, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Swiss, Rumanian, Yugoslavian,
Belgian, Finnish and Dutch" ("Spartacus Educational", n.d.). The people who lived there paid rent and contributed to the various activities and
services that the house provided. These activities and services included things that helped them and others in the community ("About Jane Addams",
n.d.). These various programs include: an employment bureau, children's clubs, music classes, and classes in language, painting, and mathematics
("Jane Addams, 1998). The Hull House also offered a nursery, kindergarten, public kitchen, and access to public baths, a playground, an art gallery,
coffee house, gym, pool, and much more ("About Jane Addams, n.d.).

Field Work Observation
I thought my first day went great. I am located in Cass City at a outpatient rehabilitation facility. My fieldwork educator (FWE) is very
knowledgeable and genuine. She is also a 2011 SVSU graduate, which it nice because she is familiar with the program. We only saw two patients
today because the last patient of the day did not come. The first patient had a scapholunate ligament sprain as well as TFCC sprain and the other was a
stroke patient. For the first patient, I just observed the therapeutic processes as the therapist used fluidotherapy as preparatory method and stretched the
appropriate muscles and ligaments. For the second patient, I was able to administer two activity–based treatments that I created. I was super nervous at

Social Work : A Field Of Interest Essay
Social Work is a field of interest to me because of the positive effort it contributes to society. Within the social work profession individuals are
striving to improve the welfare of those in need of assistance. Social Workers assist a variety of individuals; from children, young adolescents, older
adults, mentally ill, substance abuse individuals, and many other minorities; as in LGBT members, veterans, homeless people, and low socioeconomic
status individuals. The broad mix population fascinates me because within this field one will always be able to work in a flexible environment. Social
Work is used in multiple settings as in hospitals, nursing skilled homes, mental health and substance abuse clinics, schools, correctional facilities,
community centers, child welfare agencies, employee assistance programs, and private practices.
The social work profession consists of the six core values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships,
integrity, and competence. These core values are portrayed within the roles of this profession by assessing and evaluating client's needs, advocating for
improving community resources, managing crisis situations, providing therapeutic support, and referring client's to beneficial services. As well as,
developing a dual client relationship to strengthen the helping process and treating each client ethically. Social workers are constantly progressing their
professional expertise. They do this

I First Learned About The Field Of Social Work At The End
I first learned about the field of Social Work at the end of my freshman year of college and, once I started to explore what it really is, I knew I had
found something I wanted to be a part of. I love listening to people's stories and the opportunity that this profession brings to hear such diverse stories
from people from all walks of life is an aspect that I think interests many. I find it inspiring to learn the ways in which humans are able to overcome
challenges, endure hardships, and grow from them in ways that make them stronger people. What really drives my passion for social work, though,
stems from a variety of personal experiences that I believe make me uniquely qualified to relate with certain populations. These have instilled ... Show

While I gained a small understanding of the unsettling emotions that come along with homelessness, I still had a lot to learn about aspects of this
problem that social work deals with. I knew that if this was an area I wanted to work in, I needed to know more about the root causes of
homelessness. I wanted to understand what part of this matter is a result of underlying systemic issues, how to change the policies that influence
those, how to best relate with this population of people, and the most effective solutions to see results in the ending of homelessness. While there
are several other issues I am passionate about working with, this was the initial one that pushed me to social work. In the past year alone, through
the social work classes I have started taking, I have already begun to gain a much better understanding of this issue, in addition to many others in
which social workers are able to make changes in. All that I have learned has only made me more confident in the fact that this is a field I want to
be in. Along with the experiences that have led me to be interested in social work, there have been others that have created strengths in me that can
be beneficial to a social worker. I have moved around my entire life. Getting to live in all four corners of the country, I have been exposed to a variety
of diverse people and places. Because of this, I have gained an ability to assimilate well into whatever new setting I am

What Does It Mean For The Social Work Field?
What does it mean to be in the social work field? This is an important question to ask someone who is deciding to join the social work profession.
Personally, I believe that my career goals align with the mission of the social work profession, along with the Graduate College of Social Work
(GCSW) school mission. An individual who commits themselves to the social work profession joins this field in order to improve and enlighten
individuals (NASW, 2017). A professional in social work desires to support others through their work. Social workers may help individuals by
supplying the skills and resources for their clients to survive on a daily basis (NASW, 2017). As a social worker, I would take the difficulties my
clients would have, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently in June 2016, I volunteered at the Methodist Children's Home of Costa Rica. I spent 10 days socializing with young children and
adolescents. Playing games with the children, and singing songs in their native language was just some of the activities I participated in. My time in
Costa Rica was also spent at two other sites where we interacted with different children. While in Costa Rica I also helped construct a 10–foot–tall
concrete wall and multi–recreational facility at the Methodist Children's Home of Costa Rica. Wow! What a task that was. Physically building and
working to construct protection for the children was a huge demanding task. Looking back now it was worth the effort I put into the project. Just
like building the wall, graduate school will be a huge task for me to complete. However, I know that I can finish graduate school and will drive
myself to do the best that I can in my studies. It was an honor to provide my assistance in a new country and gain valuable information about a new
culture. It was interesting to see how these children whom had been neglected most of their life could open up their hearts for a few short days to total
strangers. Being able to help others with the skills I have learned just from undergraduate school at University of Houston was a great advantage to me
while volunteering in Costa Rica. I would appreciate the opportunity to continue helping individuals, families, and communities on a greater

APA Essay #1 I am interested in the field of Social Work for several reasons. First, it is one of the few careers which offers diversity in the areas of
focus. My interests are not limited. Instead, I can work with people from all stages of life who could potentially need help with physical,
emotional, or mental health issues. Also, the field of Social Work is never boring! I have always been an agile person and like to be kept on my

My Current Field Placement As A Social Work Intern Essay
My current field placement as a social work intern is at the Family Assessment Program (FAP). FAP is a voluntary program that aims to strengthen
families and help them stay together. FAP seeks to reduce youth's future involvement with the juvenile justice and the child welfare system. The
clienteles that FAP deals with, are parents who are having difficulties with their teenage children and want assistance and guidance with changing the
children's behavior and developing a positive relationship. In addition, FAP is the last step before parent files for a Person In Need of Supervision
(PINS). FAP would assess the family situation by interviewing parents and children individually and together, they determine the best suitable
intervention for the family. If the intervention does not solve the issue or the child refuses to participate, then the alternative is to file a PINS to
control the child's behavior. Engaging with some families, I was able to apply four concepts; empathy, boundaries, social taboo and focused listening.
In applying these concepts, I was able to identify my obstacles, weaknesses, strengths and develop my social work skills. The following scenarios will
focus on my strategies with applying the concepts, the obstacles I encountered and ways in which I could have improved the concepts. Through
self–reflection, I was able to select four cases where I was able to apply the above–mentioned concepts.
Empathy.

Professionalism In The Work Field
Professionals are held to a different skill level compared to others in the work field. Professionals are required to have a skills level that sets them
above all others. Two main skills professionals are required to have mastered are writing and communication. These skills are the main two, but not the
only two. Other skills may be research, knowledge, and composure among peers. When in need of an answer others will turn to the professional and
expect the professional will have the answer. Could be that professionals are held to a standard he or she cannot even uphold? Is it too much pressure
for some? How do we know if we have reached this level of professionalism? How do we know we maintain the level of professionalism?

The Social Work Field
Current Changes in The Social Work FieldThere are significant changes in the field of social work, and these changes have both challenges and
opportunities. At the February, 2007, Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) Board of Directors' Meeting, Dean Kay Hoffman, CSWE president
opens by making the statement, "
Type to enter textSocial work is out of step with the most critical social issues and problems confronting us in our society. We have lost ground to
other professions and are moving down a path of irrelevance. Unless we change, social work may not exist in years (Social Work, July 2007)." Dean
Hoffman speaks of the state and constraints of social work today. She makes a reference to Albert Einstein who reminded us that we are capable of
overcoming obstacles when he said, "No problem can be solved by the same level of consciousness that created it (Social Work, July 1, 2007).
Current changes in the social work field will be addressed. Social work, like other fields, is being driven by the economy. A few management

coursework does not provide a strong concentration in marketing. It is not unusual for M.S.W.'s to choose to get another master's in business

Social Workers And The Social Work Field
Occupation Profile
Social working is an industry so vast and extensive, but consequently be so invisible if you have never been exposed to it. Going into the social
work field you have to have the value of selflessness and great charity. A social worker's education can range from with a bachelor's to achieving
multiple masters or a doctorate. This is not a field quite solely relying on an education, there is a wide range of competitiveness for social workers.
The first step is getting on a licensing standpoint, and all of your education; in reality you need to make yourself an acceptable offering for the social
workers' competition field. Ordinarily, it is necessary to carry several references who can give an honest record of your aptitude. To find the correct
qualities in a reference to make the perfect social worker applicable is dubious, because the difference in social workers and patients is numerous,
furthermore positive results in practices, diverse. The competitive attitude of social work can be very strong; also very populous. There can be a broad
spectrum of areas to practice, from medical offices alone; Geriatric, or those with the help of senior citizens. These social workers will be helping
clients find their services, such as providing elderly adults with meals or health care, and giving information on living facilities. Health care social

The opening state is to set the stage as to how the session will play out. Frequently, the beginning of the sessions is to recap what happened in the
previous session. As the engagement session is the first session working with this family. I needed to explain confidentiality, that this environment is a
safe space, and it is opportunity to have open communication. Therefore, the opening statement is important in the engagement session. For that
reason, the closing statement is equally important. It allows the client to know the session is over. A closing statement could be "I appreciate your
honestly and open communication in this session, hold on to your thoughts. We will continue this conversation in our next meeting". Of course, it is
important to attend to the client's needs in the engagement session, but to clarify at the end we will pick up on those thoughts next session is
important. To let the clients, know in the next session what will be discussed. For example, what is going on with the family today? What are the
conflicts today? It is very important to let the clients know what will be discussed in the next session. They leave prepared for the next

An example for negative punishment is when the monitor took away one of the girls necklaces because she would not sit still and listen to the play

Defining Social Work For A Field Of Expertise Essay
Defining Social Work
When working in a field of expertise the experts in that field need to know what defines the field. Social work, with its roots over a hundred years
old, started out simply offering assistance to others has grown, changed, and is currently reconnecting with its roots (Bisman, 2004). Bisman (2004)
emphasizes the importance of being an advocator of justice and keeping the field focused on the "social" part of social work. This push to keep social
work focused on the needs of others defines social work today. Social work focuses on providing aide to the needy and lifting up those that are
oppressed. The National Association of Social Work (NASW) has identified a set of values that all social workers (NASW, 2008). Social work
values are broadly covered when you define social work as being a profession of aiding those in need and addressing oppression. Helping those in
need directly relates to the values of addressing needs of others. The definition also addresses the importance of addressing oppression. This relates to
the values of addressing injustice, individuality and promoting harmony. On a broader perspective, all social workers are encouraged to continually
pursue knowledge in their area and maintain ethical practices. Values have the purpose of ensuring that helpers always strive for what is best for the
client. Manning (1997) points out that "the power to intervene in people's lives carries with it unique responsibilities to society that are

that it could be as high as $78,000 annually, but for a newly graduate person starting, the rate of $40,000 a year with two weeks paid vacation is the
normal rate. Devyn currently works at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at U of M in Ann Arbor, MI, has been there 7 months because he moved

My Goals Upon Graduation, And Where I Plan Working Within...

  • 1. My Goals Upon Graduation, And Where I Plan Working Within... My goals upon graduation, and where I plan working within the social work field. Growing up I dealt with many forms of abuse, and due to all the trauma I had a lot of built up aggression. Unfortunately, at the time I felt there was no other way to express myself except to act out. As a consequence of my bad behavior, I lost many close friends, and missed many good opportunities. As a result, I was required to go to intensive family therapy for three days a week, with a women named Julie. Fortunately, after therapy I saw a change in myself, and I began to learn new skills to communicate, and cope with my anger. Although, I've gone to see many therapists before, Julie was the one counselor that gave me hope, and after meeting her my life has positively changed. This experience of going to family therapy, and meeting Julie has influenced me to want to help other troubled teens who have dealt with abuse. Upon graduating from Heritage University with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, I hope to start my own private practice, so I can counsel troubled teens. I plan on providing services such as cognitive therapy, employment resources, and family therapy. However, I will specialize in working at risk youth with behavioral problems. In addition, I will continue on with my education, and get a M.S.W in Social Work. I plan on earning my M.S.W. in Social Work at Eastern University, so I can earn a counseling certification. However, in the meantime I plan on working as a case manager ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Social Work For The Medical Field For many years I have developed an interest in the medical field, in helping people who are at very crucial times in their lives. I have known that I do not want to pursue to be a doctor or a nurse, but rather a professional with in that field who can aid others and follow up on the responsibilities and make them priorities, just as much as doctors make the patients' health their point of focus. I have also expressed interest in Child Welfare, which aligns very well with my personal experiences. It is however for that reason that I chose to write this paper on a field of service that otherwise I may have not chosen but that I still envision myself pursuing. What fascinates me about a social work career in a Health care setting are the possibilities that it presents. It allows you to interact with all sorts of patients and assist them in many ways. Just as a social worker is specified to do, they connect others with services. As I have learned social workers in a health care setting, function based off an interdisciplinary team, where they work hand in hand with other health care professionals such as doctors and nurses to provide the patient with the upmost efficient services provided by such institution. Working on such a team where the care for the patient is looked out for on multiple spectrums, is the kind of work environment that I would like to work in someday in the future. In accordance with information provided by the NASW 38 percent of social workers are within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Narrative: My Interest In The Field Of Social Work This essay is being written to inform the readers of my interest in the field of social work. My environment and society is what peaked my interest in social work. My undergraduate experience was one of the most informative. The particular field that interest me the most is children and families because of the depth of knowledge, social workers can gather from working with their clients. Social Work @ Simmons best suits my educational needs because of the small class size and the dedication of professors to their students. Contributing to the school community benefits many people as a whole because it develops one's character. The rigorous demands of any time of graduate work needs to be handled correctly in order to achieve the degree that is set out for oneself. When asked about my volunteer experience, work experience, and my academic career at Western New England, there are so many things I could possibly think of writing about. Every single adventure, as I call them, has prepared me for the next step in the real word: graduate school. My work experience with two different camps: one for ages 8–14, another for ... Furthermore, they have taught me that diversity is okay and something worth embracing everywhere. Moreover, working in summer camps has always given me the opportunity to get to know the true person in some of the kids I have worked with. • 4. The Field Of Social Work Katherine Pelaccio Dr. Kathleen Pressler Group Dynamics October 13, 2014 The field of social work touches the lives of every American. According to the National Association of Social Workers, "social work is the professional activity of helping individuals, groups, or communities to enhance or restore their capacity for social functioning and to create societal conditions favorable to their goals."(Zastrow p.34) The focus or purpose of social work is to help meet the basic needs of people, especially those in need to obtain services; counseling and psychotherapy of individuals, families and groups; helping community and groups to provide or improve social and health services; and participate in the improvement and development of social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social workers should aspire to contribute to the knowledge base of the profession." (NASW) Social work is based on an understanding of knowledge, values and skills. Social workers wear many hats, and work with many different people, so therefore, they need to be experienced and knowledgeable in many different areas to effectively problem solve. Social workers must know how to work with people on the Micro, Mezzo and Macro levels. A social worker needs to understand different cultural values and the diverse differences in the people which they may be helping. They need to have a basic understanding of psychology, biology and public policy. They need to have an understanding of poverty and how it effects our society and what resources are available to those who might need them. A social worker should be very knowledgeable about the populations they are working with, what the needs of the client might be, what might help or hurt, and what resources may be available to better help those individuals or groups. The social worker should always be striving to learn, and to be as knowledgeable as possible in their area of practice. (NASW)(Zastrow) Some of the skills that are important to develop as a social worker are empathy, respect, authenticity, boundary setting, active listening, communication, social perceptiveness, self–awareness, organization, coordination, persuasion, advocacy, relaxation, and self–control. • 7. Pursuing The Social Work Field Of Education Essay It took a long time and a lot of careful thinking to decide to pursue the Social Work field of education now. Although I attempted to pursue my Masters in Education 16 years ago, I discontinued that program due to the realization that I was not mature enough to keep balancing school demands along with my full time workload. Reflecting back, I was more pursuing my Masters for the purpose of pleasing my family considering I was the first female in my family to even graduate with a Bachelors here in the United States. Fast forward, 16 years later, I've concluded that furthering my education with a Masters in Social Work is the best match and fit to continue enhancing my career in social services. As a Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist providing supported employment services, I support and guide my clients by taking steps toward their own career goals. I have found my purpose in life, which is to support transformation in others by connecting any type of community resource they may need in order to overcome their barriers toward their career choice. I have seen first hand how "work is therapy" and knowing that I supported and contributed to my client's career plan, gives me the drive to keep enhancing my skills to impact my community even more. I am highly motivated to pursue a Masters in Social Work so I may have the access and ability to build and manage a team or organization that is just as passionate in supporting and guiding others. • 8. Pros and Cons of Different Fields in Social Work Earning my bachelor's in human services will lead into my career in the field of social work. The field of social work is nothing new: Simon Patten coined the term social workers in 1900 (Robert 1995). Literature on aspects of the field, how to get involved in social work, and what type of work a social worker performs will be included in my research. For the purpose of this review, I will focus my research on current information, 2008 to current. The major theme of my research includes looking at the positives and negatives of different fields in social work. Job growth for social work is expected to grow 16% by 2018 (Notabartolo, 2010), which keeps me optimistic for finding a job and paying off my student loans. The average salary for a social work ranges depending on what field of social work he or she is working in. The fields that I will focus on earn an average of $50,000 annually (Notabartolo, 2010). Fields of Social Work I plan on pursing a career in the field of social work that focuses on working with children. "16% out of the countries half million social workers work in child services (Children and Families, 2014)." A career in children services will entail working one on one with families and helping solve their issues. Social workers work with families who suffer with abuse, mental illness, and physical illnesses (Mental health, 2011). According to the national association of social workers' website, children and family services jobs include: counseling families, removing children from abusive homes and relocating them, teaching families how to use the welfare system (Children and Families 2014). In order to work with children a person needs to have compassion, patients, and understanding. Those three skills are critical in order to make a difference in the lives of the children in need. Desiring a change, she got her masters in social work and was grandfathered in as a LCSWR. The Field of Social Work and Evidence-Based-Practice The writings of advocates of EBP demonstrate that a shift is taking place in the social work field towards a more integrated approach where "social work is an applied, empirically grounded social and cultural science aiming at both causal explanation and interpretive understanding" (Otto & Zeigler, 2008, p. 273). Talking about the limits of RCTs they suggest that "Typically, the experimental design is not able to control for the effects of worker–client dynamics and client characteristics that are not clearly defined, understood or measurable" (Cnaan & Dichter, 2008 p. 281). A way for professional social work culture and institutional structure to further the cause of practice–research integration would be for them to embrace the contributions of both academic and practitioner–researchers alike. Then collaborations such as these would incorporate projects that are research–driven, where practitioners assist the work of researchers and practice–driven projects in which researchers act as consultants to practitioners. Institutional arrangements such as these would have the effect of empowering practitioners as "co–creators of social work knowledge rather than disempowering them by emphasizing their knowledge–building incapacities or treating them merely as guideline implementers" (Epstein, 2009 p. 227). • 12. The Work Of The Healthcare Field "Hey I'm going to need you to stay over a few extra hours" is something that most workers hear more often than not. Working long shifts without a break can drain you mentally and physically. There are many cases of workplace bullying. There are also various amounts of websites dedicated to helping victims of workplace bullying. A personal interview with Amber Mann, a 20–year–old coworker of mine at Sunset Village Retirement Homes, talked about how poor treatment at work affects how she perseveres through the grueling hours of a horrible work week. How you get treated at work can affect how you work, your mood and your all around feelings of being there. Being an employee in an environment that is not pleasant has a lot of setbacks when it comes to the work that is getting done. The healthcare field is a demanding twenty–four hour a day job. When there is a snow storm or someone is sick and cannot work it's not as simple as closing the door and shutting down the facility. So when there is a call off or short staffing than the usual "your workplace needs you" motive is instilled and the guilt sets in. Upon completing eight hours of work and to be told you are forced over another eight hours when it was never planned is very harsh and frustrating. There are no incentives to staying over either, it's as simple as stay or get reprimanded. Because the field of social work is constantly growing and evolving, generalist social workers must have a broad range of knowledge in order to effectively help clients who have a variety of needs to be met. There are eight specific eclectic knowledge bases listed as the following: fields of practice, systems theory, the ecological perspective, human behavior and the social environment, social welfare policy and policy practice, social work practice, research–informed practice and practice–informed research, and values and principles that guide practice. The first knowledge base, fields of practice, is the understanding of the numerous areas of social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third knowledge base is the ecological perspective which "refers to living, dynamic interactions" between people and their respective environments. An understanding of this perspective involves the realization that people have their own contexts in their social environments. A social worker that understands HBSE would look not only at the client as the sole problem of a situation but would also assess and explore the surrounding influences from the client's environment. The fifth knowledge base is social welfare policy and policy practice. Social welfare policies set the regulations of what types of social programs are available and to whom they are available. • 15. Reflection Paper On Field Work Waiting to find out my internship placement, interviewing with my placement, and starting work has been the most exciting part of my graduate education to date. I was placed with Walton County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and started working with them in the last week of September. The transition from the classroom to the field has been smooth with my classes having equipped me for the field work I have already done and hopefully for the field work to come. While the transition from classroom to field has been smooth, it has been drastically different working with DFCS from reading in textbooks and class lectures. At my field placement, I have been able to interact with clients and get to know them on a first name basis. Meeting real clients has been fascinating. Not only do I get to learn about what is going on in their lives, I also get to learn about how they feel about it, what they think about it, and see their expressions and emotions as they relay this information to me. Face to face interaction with a client is unlike anything that can be gathered from a textbook. We have textbooks that give scenarios and scripted interviews, but a book is never able to fully capture the same experience as when you actually talk to a client. Even if a client's problem(s) may not be that "interesting" I find it captivating to speak with someone and learn about what they are going through, then to read about worst situation possible scenarios for clients in ... My fieldwork is central to my learning and serves as an integrative experience in which I use what was previously learned in class and apply it to my practice experience. I am currently in a very rewarding field study at the Osborne Association, Training to Work Program. Training to Work offers mentorship and opportunities to both men and women who are on work release. The program is designed to reduce the rate of recidivism and to assist participants in gaining meaningful employment and trainings. This experience requires considerable amount of meeting with participants and providing support, empowerment and advocacy. My supervisor is a central feature of my field experience as she ensures the integration and application of knowledge, theory and skill that was taught in the classroom. Each week my supervisor who is very skilled and encouraging provides a one–hour supervision session where process recordings are reviewed and any concerns or personal challenges are addressed. • 17. The Importance Of A Social Work Field The social work field is solely dedicated to the giving back of others. A person in the career must be willing to spend hours working to make differences in clients' lives. Children and family social work can be a very rewarding profession but yet challenging at times. Employees help others in need, advocate for important causes, and all around make positive impacts in the world. Many people interested in social work have personal motivations from their own lives steering them towards the profession of giving back (Unwinn and Hogg). People who are wanting to make positive changes in the lives of others are attracted to this career (Vu). To be successful, one must have a strong passion for helping others (Campus Explorer). Specific skills required are active listening, speaking, reading comprehension, social perceptiveness, critical thinking, monitoring, and service orientation (Career Info). Workers must know how to handle personal services in order to build and strengthen relationships with clients (Career Info). • 19. My Vision Of The Social Work Field My vision of the social work field is being able to help people in need and being the person that people can look back on and remember as a huge help in time of need. I think my core values and beliefs will help me be an effective social worker and help me succeed in this field. It is in my belief that a person should never be knocked down when they are going through hardships, and rather empowering them. I also believe that not everyone could be a social worker because it takes a certain kind of empathetic and self–aware person. I truly believe that my upbringing has humbled me to understand and not be judgmental of people's issues since I've seen a lot in my short twenty–one years. I think a core value that aligns and is very useful in the field that I acquire is being aware of a person's dignity and worth. I am the kind of person that treats a very wealthy person and a homeless person equally, I don't believe that people are better than others in any circumstance. I also grew up in an extremely diverse community which has allowed me to think broadly and not have a person's culture, ethnicity, or other differences effect my perception of them. "Social workers treat each person in a caring and respectful fashion, mindful of individual differences and cultural and ethnic diversity" (NASW, 2008). I think this is one of the most important values in social work because a worker simply cannot provide the best service if their differences can't be put to the side. I believe ... • 20. My Interest On The Field Of Social Work Field My interest in the field of social work field began with personal experiences early in childhood. Not only did I obtain firsthand knowledge about mental health from therapists, but I was also thrust into a helping role as a teenager. When I was a child, my mother received therapy from a social worker and a psychiatrist after my grandparents after she entered a mental hospital following a suicide attempt. Although the social worker referred my mother to a psychiatrist for an official diagnosis of depression and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) as well for medication, she provided therapy after my mother began treatment and continued for several years. During my teens, my mother decided that she wanted to discontinue taking her medications, as her antidepressants had many unpleasant side effects. While my grandparents initially disagreed with her decision–they feared that going off medication would lead to withdrawal symptoms of suicidal thoughts and/or physical sickness. As a family of four, we decided as a group and in consultation with doctors that if she was determined to taper off her medications, she would need to spend more time in therapy to ensure monitoring of her symptoms or subsequent behavioral problems. Out of a desire to help my mother strengthen her mental health, I chose to play a helping role in her journey. Prior to her desire to taper off her medications, I stayed at home during her therapy sessions. With the consent of her therapist, I attended a few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These theories can be applied to individuals to give a more concrete understanding of certain behaviors and where they stem from. This paper will attempt to gain a better understanding of a case study by applying relevant theories to childhood development and behavior. Case Description Identifying Information Paikea is an 11–year–old female from the Maori tribe of New Zealand. She has been raised since birth by her paternal grandparents. It is important to note that her Grandfather is Chief of the Maori Tribe. Her Mother and twin brother died during childbirth. Her father, while alive, left after Paikea's mother and brother died and has only been around sporadically throughout her life. Current Situation or Presenting Problem Paikea's grandfather was very excited about the fact that her twin brother was to be born, as he was a first–born son. An internship is a platform to provide real–world involvement of students in a field or occupation. Classroom lectures that involved lessons and exercises on the social work profession were meaningful to me as a student. They brought insight into policies, laws, research, and methods that I will need to utilize in the social work profession. My field internship at Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) provides me the opportunity to connect the classroom lectures and real–world involvement in the social work occupation. More so, to discuss the entirety of the connection between my classroom lectures and my internship would be lengthy and difficult to accomplish. However, I will discuss the aspects that were instantly noticeable that would be difficult to notice without the classroom lectures on the social worker occupation. For instance, one thing I learned about social work, I learned from my Intervention Method in the Helping Profession class. In the class taught by Dr. Hodges, I learned about client empowerment. In the book assigned to the class client empowerment is defined as to enhance the capacity, or power, of clients to address their life concerns (Walsh, 2009, p.16). I interpret this concept as a social worker that we are to develop a positive sense self–worth and competence about their life. I observed in my field placement at UMD by addressing ... Social Workers assist a variety of individuals; from children, young adolescents, older adults, mentally ill, substance abuse individuals, and many other minorities; as in LGBT members, veterans, homeless people, and low socioeconomic status individuals. The clienteles that FAP deals with, are parents who are having difficulties with their teenage children and want assistance and guidance with changing the children's behavior and developing a positive relationship. In addition, FAP is the last step before parent files for a Person In Need of Supervision (PINS). FAP would assess the family situation by interviewing parents and children individually and together, they determine the best suitable intervention for the family. If the intervention does not solve the issue or the child refuses to participate, then the alternative is to file a PINS to control the child's behavior.
