Prophets from the Old Testament
Essay 4: Prophets
The Old Testament is finished up with several different lessons that can be learned from the prophet's teachings. There were twelve different prophets
in the Old Testament, who were also known as the Minor Prophets. The Jews were anxious to know who God was, and the Old Testament prophets
offered understanding to many disputes. Idolatry, social injustice and religious ritualism are three topics that are highlighted in the prophet's teachings
and impressed upon the hearts of believers today.
Idolatry was one of the big issues among the Jews. God addressed this problem very early on in the Bible in Exodus 20:3–6 when He said, "Thou shalt
have no other gods before me." The prophets took this issue very seriously. Hosea was one of the Twelve Prophets, and his life correlates with the
issue the Israelites were facing with idolatry. The name "Hosea" means "salvation", or "He saves". Hosea family life was rather unordinary. In
Hosea 1:2 God spoke to Hosea and said, "Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty
of unfaithfulness to the Lord." Hosea's family life mirrored the "adulterous" relationship, which Israel had built on idols. The relationship that Hosea
had with his wife, Gomer, parallels to the relationship that Israel had with God. Even though Gomer ran away from Hosea and slept with other men,
Hosea still loved her and forgave her. The same is true with Israel and God. Even though the

Rob Rienow Summary
Book Review
Rienow, Rob. Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom: Uniting Church and Family in the Great Commission. Nashville, TN: Randall House, 2013. 325

Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom: Uniting Church and Family in the Great Commission addresses the challenge of how churches can centralize God
's call to parents to shepherd their children found in Deuteronomy chapter six. Rob Rienow founded Visionary Family Ministries with his wife Amy in
2004. In addition he is a pastor at Gospel Fellowship Church in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He earned an MA in theology at Wheaton College, an Mdiv from
Trinity International Divinity School, and a Doctor of Ministry in Christian Leadership from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Rienow has
authored many several books addressing family ministry including Visionary Parenting, Reclaiming the Sufficiency of Scripture, When They Turn
Away: Drawing Your Adult Child Back to Christ and Five Reasons For Spiritual Apathy In Teen. In this work, Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom, he
not only argues that every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He laments, "In some seminaries today pastors are not trained to use the Bible for ministry decisions." (12) He argues that the contrasting errors of
adding human rules to God's Word and ignoring it all together, both reject the authority and the sufficiency of Scripture. Rienow maintains that
Scripture is not relegated to the realm of 'religion,' but is sufficient for issues that we face day to day including family, marriage, education and
government. He warns that taking a stand on the sufficiency of Scripture can be dangerous. He points out that Scriptural authority has been replaced
outside and inside the church. He states, "We have become twisted and governed by a bizarre mix of feelings, personal experience, human wisdom and
pragmatism, rather than the Scriptures."

Summary : ' The Old Testament '
Scriptural Perspectives
In the Old Testament, many false religions included self–mutilation as worship. In 1 Kings 18:24–29, the prophets of Baal are described as cutting
themselves with swords and spears in worship to their false god. As a result, God made a law against cutting as a form of worship in Leviticus 19:28:
"You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord."
Later, in the New Testament, cutting oneself was associated with a person who was known as being possessed by demons (Mark 5:2–5). Additionally,
the New Testament submits that one's body should be taken care of: "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you,
whom you have from God? You are not your... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it is, Christ, through the resurrection, calls us continually from our own graves in the present. Thus, the hope for the self–mutilator involves Christ
calling the self–mutilator from her suffering grave. This call represents the apocalyptic breaking in of new creation upon the self–mutilator and thereby
the transformations of her lacerations as Christ 's lacerations are likewise transformed.
Jesus's blood spilled at the cross is the perfect substitution and hope for all people. Jesus perfectly fulfills all of the needs of people, including struggling
adolescents. He is the ultimate stability, the ultimate control, and provides the ultimate relationship.
Youth Worker Response and Opportunity
Cutting and other forms of nonsuicidal self–injury are incredibly prevalent among American adolescents, which creates a significant responsibility for
youth ministers and workers who wish to serve and protect their students to the best of their abilities. Based on the previously discussed motivations
that drive many young teens to cutting, it is apparent that adolescents possess a specific set of needs that must be met in order for them to feel safe
and contented. The first and possibly most important of these needs is the desire for human love and relationships. While parental love and support is
the most important and influential of these relationships, other relationships are important as well, such as friendships with peers. Teens also constantly
seek for hope beyond

Exegesis Paper On Psalm 104
Exegesis Paper In the Old Testament, Heman the Ezrahite, the son of Joel and the grandson of Samuel the judge and prophet of Israel, wrote
Psalm 88. This Psalm is a very unique one in that it is the only one that does not end with an assertion of comfort or joy. It is very sad and
melancholy and you can tell that it was written by someone in a very depressive state: 1 Lord, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry
out to you. 2 May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. 3 I am overwhelmed with troubles and my life draws near to death. 4 I am
counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like one without strength. 5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. 6 You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. 7 Your wrath lies heavily on
me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. 8 You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined
and cannot escape; 9 my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, Lord, every day; I spread out my hands to you. 10 Do you show your wonders to the
dead? Do their spirits rise up and praise you? 11 Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction? 12 Are your wonders known in the
place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion? 13 But I cry to you for help, Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you. 14
Why, Lord, do you reject me and hide your

Paulo Coelho And His Religious Diversity
Paulo Coelho and his Religious Diversity
The Alchemist contains many religious elements and symbolism that stem directly from Paulo Coelho's personal life. By incorporating a diverse
collection of personal experiences to bring the world of The Alchemist alive, Paulo Coelho drew readers of all kinds to his novel. Even during his time
at the Jesuit school, Paulo Coelho was developing thoughts and ideas of his own about faith and religion, ideas which are clearly reflected in The
Alchemist. The variety of religious beliefs Paulo Coelho gained throughout his life significantly influenced The Alchemist.
Paulo Coelho, born in Brazil, was brought up in a strict Catholic family. At a young age, he was sent to a Jesuit school, where he was held under
strict rules and requirements, such as being forced to go to mass, with the threat of going to Hell always held over him. 'The chains of rigor were so
heavy throughout my youth that very quickly I started to doubt this religion that showed no mercy, only constraint and suffering." (My Religious
Education). After returning home from the school, he was placed in a mental institution for over three years due to his personality and rebellion
against his family. After he was released from the institution, he started a life style as a "hippie," getting into drugs and writing rebellious lyrics for
various singers (The Telegraph). After being arrested and tortured by government of Brazil, he completely gave up Catholicism and started exploring

The New Testament And The Christian Message
Peace is often associated with the non–existence of war and violence, although various religious traditions have different interpretations and
perspectives of what peace means to them through the use of sacred texts, adherents, principal beliefs, practices and rituals used within their religion.
This can be demonstrated through the close analysis of two major religious traditions Christianity and Islam.
The teaching of the New Testament affirms the centrality of peace to the Christian message. It was at the heart of the life and ministry ofJesus and
accordingly is sought after and taken up by the communities that seek to follow Jesus. Peace is understood as more than merely an absence of
violence and conflict. It refers more fully to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most commonly it is used as a form of greeting and/or blessing. "Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 1:7).
The Greek language (the language of the New Testament) uses two different words to describe and define love. The most commonly used Greek
word translated "love" in the New Testament is "agape." This love is represented by God 's love for us. It is a non–partial, sacrificial love probably
best exemplified by God 's provision for our rebellion: "For God so loved (agape) the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes
in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
Agape love requires a relationship with God through Jesus Christ since the non–regenerated soul is unable to love unconditionally. 'You shall love your
neighbour as yourself. ' There is no other commandment greater than these. (NRSV, Mark 12:31)
In Christianity, the principal teaching of peace comes from Christ (Pax Christi) and it is a peace that is transcendental, so it cannot be achieved
through human works. This "transcendental" peace can be obtained through peace of soul, peace of mind, peace of heart and peace amongst humanity.
The Pax Christi is a critical part of the principal teachings within Christianity as it demonstrates the way of life that a Christian should undertake,
provides a sense of moral ethical guidance, places an emphasis on the concept of

Summary Of Testament Of Youth By Vera Brrin
Personal recounts of events can be more insightful to the details and facts than what can be found in the average history textbook. Testament of Youth
by Vera Brittain is one of these personal recounts. Her own story of her experience as a woman from Britain during World War I confirms previously
known facts and brings new aspects into light. When Britain first entered there was a massive amount of support and volunteers to join the military.
Both Vera's brother and boyfriend were among the first to enlist. Young men were eager to fight in what they called a "greatwar", for they felt strong
loyalty to their country. The war lasted much longer than what anyone would expect. When soldiers would return, they most likely came back
completely different. They were either horrible disfigured physically or mentally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nurse who had been serving in the hut before her seemed so aloof to the idea of amputation that it was clear that it was a common practice.
Along with these physical wounds, soldiers would return with "shell shock". This would come to be known as PTSD. During Rolland's leave back
to home, he displayed signs of this disorder. He was losing who he was, and no longer felt the point of writing. Rolland is trying to be distant from
Vera, and is even violent towards her. During his time in the trenches, he had witnessed one of his fellow soldiers who had been recently engaged shot
in the head. This occured ten minutes after returning from his own leave. Because of this, Rolland distanced himself. A great majority of those lost in
the war were college aged, including intelligent people full of potential such as Edward and

Comparing All Quiet On The Western Front 'And Testament Of...
By reading both "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "Testament of Youth", we learn that World War 1 had a tremendous effect, not only on the
men in the trenches; but essentially on everyone; of all genders throughout Europe and the World. Vera Brittains, "Testament of Youth" tells the
tale of her experiences working as a V.A.D (Voluntary Aid Detachment Nurse) in many areas, however in chapters five and six, she is stationed in
London. She describes, in vivid details the struggles of working as a nurse in London during the war. In Remarques' novel, "All Quiet on the
Western Front" we follow the life of a soldier, Paul Baumer who essentially enlists in the Army and is later deployed to the western front. Baumer
experiences the horrors of war in many ways, due to this; he undergoes severe physical and psychological stress and he feels as if he will never be
able to recover and become an ordinary civilian. In chapter five of "Testament of Youth" we start off with Brittains' transfer to St. Bartholomew's
Hospital and the not so ideal living conditions there. Nurses had to walk about two and a half miles in the morning just to get to the hospital,
regardless of whether it was cold, raining etc. and due to this many of the nurses became ill, in fact a nurse died from pneumonia, and many nurses

History Of New Testament Times From The Birth Of Jesus
1.Give an overview of the history of New Testament times (from the birth of Jesus to the writing of the books).
To understand the New Testament one must pay attention to the historical context of the world and times these events were written. In the Roman
Empire, importance must be placed on the corresponding worlds of the Roman Jews and the Roman Christians of that time. Jewish history provides a
rich backdrop for the New Testament, which is set in the Second Temple Period starting from the reconstruction of the Jerusalem temple at the end of
the Babylonian exile and finishing with the destruction of the temple by the Romans in 70 CE.
Jesus was born as the centre of human civilisation. At Birth, he was part of God's Plan in the incarnation of Christ. He lived in this era as a Jewish
man in Palestine and interacted with Pharisees, experts in Jewish Law, rules and regulations, the Scribes who were in charge of all rituals, and
Sadducees. Jesus was born approximately 6BC to 30AD. Growing up, his public ministry spanned three years. Other Jewish groups in Palestine at this
time were Essenes, Zealots, Herodians and Samaritans. Relationships with Jews including Gentiles were strained. The Gentiles are important in later
parts of the New Testament as the Mediterranean world gets more prominence compared to Palestine.
The New Testament world and the Roman world was signified by great inequality economically with Jews and Gentiles concerned about the
maintenance of honour and

Why Is It Important To Bring Hope To People During World...
From the novel Just Mercy, Bryan Stevenson, the author, writes about the importance of hope people should have during difficult times to make
them stronger. For instance, he states, "The kind of hope that creates a willingness to position oneself in a hopeless place and be a witness, that
allows one to believe in a better future, even in the face of abusive power. That kind of hope makes one strong" (Stevenson 219). A person who gave
people hope that made them strong was Vera Brittain. She was the author of "Testament of Youth" which stated horror of World War One ("Vera

Amish Sociology
Introduction
The social constructionism of the Amish community is one that passes quick judgment. The judgments might include the Amish having a simple life.
The thought that the members are forced into the religion. That they lose out from choosing not to fully utilize electricity. That they must all dress the
same. Regardless of how people view them, there needs to be further examination of their culture, before a socially constructed perspective of their
community is made. This examination is important to sociology due to the ever–growing population of Amish people within North America. The mass
major of Amish use to live in Europe today there are no Amish people left in the country. Although, in North America, there are over 250,000 Amish
people, most of which live in either Pennsylvania or Ohio (Yonke, 2010, p. 1). Never the less, they are still true to their roots and still speak German,...

According to Yonke, the Editor of The News–Messenger in Fremont and the News Herald in Port Clinton (2010), "The roots of the Amish faith date
back nearly 500 years, to shortly after the Protestant Reformation of 1517. A group of Christians rebelled against infant baptism, saying the New
Testament teaches that baptism is only appropriate for adults who are willing to obey Jesus' teachings" (p.1). People who took on these views became
known as Anabaptists. There was a smaller group within the Anabaptists located in France and Switzerland who were led by Jakob Ammann, this
group separated on their own in 1693 due to the controversial opinions on their views and became known as the Amish (Yonke, 2010, p.1). The Amish
felt it was necessary to leave Europe and move to the United States because they would be allowed more religious freedoms. The Amish just wanted a

A Look at Christian Stewardship Essay
There are the three main categories of the local and global church needs, non–Christian needs, and non–human needs to which I may distribute the
money. Keller argues that the church should not provide for only those within the church, but those outside of it as well, paralleling the provisions
commanded for the strangers and aliens of the Old Testament (Keller, 13–14). He also suggested that we should not give to others with the condition
that they are a Christian or will become one after the aid. When Jesus healed the blind man, there was "no indication that Jesus gave the aid
conditionally. He did not press him to believe as he healed him..." (Keller, 18). Also, non–Christian organizations may provide aid for Christians. Paul

Pastor's salary–$200 It is not wrong for the Pastor to be financially supported by the church. In Num 18:24 we learn that "...the tithe of the people of
Israel [God has] given to the Levites for an inheritance..." Though this situation is slightly different since Levites were not allowed to provide for
their needs by other means, there is still a principal of providing for spiritual leaders. This is also seen in Gal 6:6 which states, "One who is taught the
word must share all good things with the one who teaches". Perhaps the pastor's salary should not be based on the average income in the area, though,
but by what his needs actually are. This would be more in alignment with how land was distributed in the Old Testament. "...Numbers 26:52–56
portrays a system of dividing up the land so that every tribe would have an amount proportionate to their numerical size...this did not mean that
everyone should have the same, but that every family should have enough – enough to be economically viable" (Economics and the Poor, 157). This is
a principle I also tried to follow in the following cases. Men without job–$5,000 each with family, 1,500 for man without=16,500 I distributed the
money so that more was allotted to the men with families. I would suggest an accountability program to ensure we are not enabling them, preventing
them from seeking work. This

Reflection On The Studyament Of The Old Testament
This class has meant much to me, it has given me many things that I will not only carry with me throughout the rest of my life but also throughout the
rest of my ministry. I will not only have the ability to use the knowledge gained in this class to enrich my own life and Biblical knowledge but also be
able to enrich others' lives and lead them to better understanding and application of Biblical principles relating to the Old Testament. One thing that I
took away from this class is that the Old Testament is more relevant in our lives than we often give it credit for, Job for example, being able to dive
more deeply into his story we are able to see themes and emotions that deeply effect the ways in which we ourselves need to know and understand
questions such as "Is God as just God, or is God unjust?" We often can unknowingly in modern times ask the same questions and have the same debate
with other believers without ever actually stopping to realize the similarity and actual Biblical answers to such questions within the realm of the Old
Testament. Furthermore, principles like understanding origins and original meaning of words of the Old Testament can play similarly into our lives
and even ministry in the sense of fully being able to understand the true context and even meaning of scripture and passages of scripture at times. An
example of this is in knowing that (for instance) Judges within the Old Testament were not simply like the modern day judge that we know today,

Vera Brittain's Anthem For A Doomed Youth
Anthem for a Doomed Youth: Vera Brittain's, Testament of Youth, is a harrowing autobiographical account of the years 1900
–1925. Combining
personal reflections, letters, and poems, Brittain beautifully constructs a realistic, and searing portrayal of her life and the live of the lost generation.
Utterly honest and revealing, Britain's memoir recollects her life, from provincial youth, to a V.A.D nurse grappling with the ghosts of the war. Told
through the lens of Britain as she both directly experiences, and re–experiences the war, the memoir is a torrent of emotions, as she struggles with the
war, and the decimation it caused. With the loss of everyone she has ever loved, her brother, her fiancГ©, and her friends, Testament of Youth, not
only serves as an examination of World War One and the changing landscape of Great Britain, but also as a heart–breaking elegy to the lives lost
during the Great War. In the first part of the memoir, Brittain reflects on her early years of life. Born into a prosperous upper

The Old Testament Of The Bible
There are many great leaders in the Old Testament of the Bible. However, there are some that deserve far more respect than others, and there are
others that do not even have the great appearance or qualifications of a leader. Just as there are leaders such as these, a person that is related to both
of these types of leaders is our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Old Testament leaders of the Bible that deserve more respect or do not have the greatest
appearances or qualifications of a leader are easily compared and contrasted to Jesus 's life and ministry.
Jesus ' life and ministry can be compared and contrasted to leaders of the Old Testament in the Bible that are highly underestimated. One example
of a leader who deserves more respect Old Testament leader is Queen Esther, who was once a poor Jew, was crowned queen when King
Ahsaurerus married her. The second in command of the King, Haman, underestimated Esther, as he did not realize she was a Jew, and tried to kill
every Jew that lived in their country. Esther knew she needed to save her people so she revealed this plot to the king and said in Esther 7:3, "If I have
found favor in your site, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be granted me for my wish, and my people my request."1 This bold statement is
Esther basically saying that she would give up her life in exchange for her people. This example is an excellent one of a great leader who deserves far
more respect than she deserves because Esther had the power and

Why Did Children Join Communism
Education of Soviet Youth and Expansion of Economic Education
Today the word communist often has a negative connotation, however, this was not always the case. This brings to question why did children choose
to join the Communist Party between the years of 1917 to 1936? In the Soviet Union between those years youth were educated to devoutly pledge
allegiance as well as fight for a common cause, communism. Starting education at a young age, through propaganda posters and school curriculum,
influencing and sabotaging a child's perception was made easier. This aided in recruiting many Soviet youth for the communist party. By analyzing one

Including black and white as the only colors beside red makes the red pop out more, making it the focus of the poster. Red became popular beginning
in the French Revolution when revolutionist were depicted wearing a red phrygian cap, creating a stigma of rebellion. Developing from this idea of
rebellion, Russians used red to empower communism, having it represent "the blood of the workers who died in the struggle against capitalism"4. The
word red in Russian "красивый" is also very similar to the word beautiful in Russian "красный"5 indicating that communism is
the beautiful cause that needs to be worked for. Children constantly seeing red would be taught that communism is a must and they should join the
communist party. As well as color symbolism the images depicted on the columns of the propaganda poster must also be examined to understand what
they taught children of the Soviet. In one image three children are portrayed fixing a windowsill, which helps to indicate that children are included in
the working class, so fighting for liberation of the working class will also include self–liberation. Another image showcases a Soviet child with his
arms around two foreigners, in the photo all participants are smiling representing joy. This adds to the idea of liberation of peasants worldwide.
Communist want socialism to spread globally so linking communism to happiness and broadcasting universality by having foreigners depicted teaches
children to evangelize communism, helping it spread. The next image that must be addressed is the one illustrating a child hard at work in front of a
desk filled with books. This teaches Soviet youth that education is key to liberation. To properly fight for the cause, they must be well informed and
educated. The final image that should be analyzed is one representing a

A Clockwork Orange Essay: New Testament for American Youth?
A Clockwork Orange – New Testament for American Youth?
In Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange, he observes a characteristic of youth that has been documented from the story of Icaris to the movie Rebel
without a Cause. Through his ingenious method of examination of this characteristic, the sci–fi novel, he has created an aspect of what he chose to
observe: Rebellion.
Our hero, Alex, begins the novel by explaining his mischeviouse exploits in a manner not far from nostalgia, that is tainted with a bit of sarcasm for
any bleeding–heart pity one might feel for his victims, as when he recalls his own realization of the importance of the term, "A Clockwork Orange."

The slang, Nadsat, is one of the undisputed aspects of genius in the novel, and is constantly used as a divider between people. In the Staja 84F, Alex
runs across an old criminal, whom he doesn't quite get along with, who has his own "old–time real criminal's slang." As the criminal is describing his
difficulty in acquiring a "poggy," Alex interjects with "(whatever that was, brothers)(CO 85)." By pointing out this barrier Alex is showing his
contempt for his washed–up cellmate, and illustrating another aspect of the generation gap that even prison cannot bridge. This slang separates him
from those older than him, and those younger than him too. The girls in the disc–bootick "had their own way of govoreeting. (CO46)" "Govoreeting"
meaning "speaking" in Nadsat. These two devotchkas show that Alex and his subculture are being rendered obsolete even as he is in his prime.

The Right To Jerusalem Essay
The Rights to Jerusalem
The rights to Jerusalem have been heavily debated for centuries. It is the cause of much animosity between the three major monotheistic religions.
Since the beginning, the Christians, Muslims and Jews have all claimed that Jerusalem belongs to them due to their religious texts. According to the
Bible, Jerusalem is where Jesus Christ was nailed to the cross and crucified for his crimes, blasphemy against Judaism and for treason against Rome.
Jerusalem and the area surrounding it are heavily embedded in Christianity and Judaism. Jerusalem is sacred to the Jews because the First Temple, at
the site known as the Temple Mount today, was built by King Solomon, and Mount Moriah is where Abraham almost sacrificed his son and... Show

In the New Testament books of Luke and Acts, the accounts of the life of Jesus Christ are told from his youth and adolescence to his adulthood and
death. Jesus was brought to Jerusalem, in his youth and adolescence, to be presented to God in the Temple, and to partake with his family in the
Festival of the Passover. In his adulthood, he traveled to Jerusalem to preach to the poor, heal the sick and protect the people within the walls that
surrounded Jerusalem. It is also the location of Jesus' Last Supper, his arrest in Gethsemane, his trial, his crucifixion at Golgotha, his burial, his
resurrection and ascension to heaven. With the significance of Jerusalem being very high in the eyes of the Christian faith, there was very little doubt
that there would be a battle to maintain or regain control of Jerusalem. Nine of the main conflicts, to preserve Jerusalem for the Christian faith, are
known throughout history as the Crusades. During each crusade the theme was the same; recover the lands that were taken by people who were
believed to be the enemies of God. The Crusades were fought to restore all holy lands and the lands that were once controlled by Christians back to

BIBLICAL THEOLOGY OF FAMILY MINISTRY
I still remember the time of my childhood when peace in my family was only a myth! My dad used to come home badly drunk almost every evening,
and his entry to our home was the most frustrating and frightening thing I have ever experienced in my childhood. And I was growing under his

how my father changed himself from being a problem of the family to being a solution of the problem in the family, but I know his decision to follow
Jesus made this possible. I was ten years old when I attended the church for the first time. From this time onward, I never had to fear that my father
might come home drunk, and create disharmony in the family. Everything started happening just the opposite. He became a God–fearing man. He
taught us to love God, pray to God, and follow the instructions from the words of God. My parents raised my siblings and me by providing us a godly
home. Daily family devotional time, scripture reading, attending Sunday school, and worship service every week became our family

God Has Made Provision For Everything He Created
God has made provision for everything He created. The parish ministry, as a minister was predestined for such time in the local church. As a minister,
the task of an Elderly Care Ministry overseer and spiritual mentor are two areas for future prosperity. All ministries are God's ministry, therefore,God
timing is an important aspect in venturing to reach any goal in ministry. God is looking for people who are sold out for His purpose, people who
are willing to stand tall and do whatever is required to get the job done. He is looking for some spiritual risk takers and by all means, He knows
who meets the condition to do so. The direction and guidance are not always easy to understand or figure out; however, God has everything
arranged for each step for the destination ahead. Paul declares, but just as it is written, "Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and
which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him, (1 Cor. 2:9, NASB)." Staying faithful to God is not an
option for a believer, but it does takes practice. The practice must entail true worship and recognition to the God of sovereignty, whom the service is due.
With this in mind, the calling of Elderly Care Ministry is grounded in serving the surrounding community elders in their homes of current care. The
group consist of a Deacon and spouse, lay person, and self (Minister). This task was brought forth in August of 2015 and still active. This service

The foundation to the Christian faith is the belief that God is actively involved with His creation. God has always been actively involved with His
creation since the beginning of man's first appearance on planet earth. God has used prophets and judges to express and communicate his message to
His people who extended from the promise He made with Abraham. God saved his creation of humanity eternally from their sins when He sent His son
Jesus as the messiah to earth. God has extended his doctrines of grace, love, mercy and forgiveness to all believers of His son and gospel. Jesus left

God used the faith David who was only a mere Sheppard boy, but had such great faith in His God of impossibilities to defeat the mighty giant

Thesis Statement In Isaiah 65: 17-21
In Isaiah 65:17–25, Isaiah mentions the citation of YHWH that He is about to "create new heavens and new earth" and gives some details of the
things that will occur in the new creation. One of the things that YHWH will do is that "the youth will die at a hundred years" (Isa 65:20). Isaiah
reiterated this declaration of a new creation in 66:22–23. Isaiah's statement in Isaiah 65:20 has received a considerable amount of debate among
scholars. Scholarship is divided on the interpretation of the creation of "new heavens and new earth," where death will re–appear a phrase which is
found in the Old Testament only in the book of Isaiah. The death in the "new heaven and new earth" in Isaiah can be seen to be contrary to John's
revelation about "new heaven and new earth" in Revelation 21:4 which say "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will exist no
longer, grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away." Scholars contend that the verse in Isa 65:20 speaks

The Testament Of Youth By Vera Brittain
Testament of Youth : Message behind the memoir
The Testament of Youth, written by Vera Brittain, is a memoir based on Brittain's accounts and experiences before, during, and after WWI. Throughout
this memoir Brittain expresses her belief that women should break free of the subordinance that is held to them, in comparison to men, as well as her
campaign to find alternatives to war. In both instances, Brittain is completely correct;, men and women should not have to risk their lives or deal with
the devastation that is stimulated by war for the sake of politics.; Asas for the subordinance held to women, at that point in time and thereafter, women
should not have to live in the shadows of men or hold to the superficial standards set by society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By trying to attend this prestigious school ,she was challenging the stereotypes of what a woman should be within a society. Initially her parents were
unsupportive of her decision, but they came to be conducive and allowed her to attend Oxford. Growing up in a patriarchal environment where women
had to act subservient to men, motivated Vera to develop a feminist mindset. Vera Brittain wrote in Testament of Youth, "...which women would no
longer be the second–rate, unimportant creatures that they were now considered, but the equal and respected companions of men." This statement
was Vera's yearning for herself and all women to be recognized as equally capable as men are. Brittain believed that women shouldn't have to live in
the shadows of men, especially after the war. During the war, women at home did the jobs men were accustomed to doing and many times performed
an exemplary job at it. This in turn proved that women should be considered equally competent as men because they were able to complete many male
dominated tasks with efficiency and skill. Despite this past realization, even today, women still deal with the injustices of inequality in comparison to
men. An example of this plight would be the gender wage gap in today's workplace, in which men are still payed higher than women, for the simple
reason that they are men. This chauvinist dilemma only validates the

Atonement Essay example
Atonement
Atonement in the larger sense deals with a common factor which is sin.
The definition is a making at on which points to a process of bringing those who are enstranged into a unity(Douglas, 107). It is a theological term
which derives from the Anglo–Saxon. The word atonement appears eighty seven times in the Old Testament in the RSV Bible(Nelson, 55). According to
Strongs Exhaustive
Concordance, which is using the King James Version, appears seventy seven times in the Old Testament and only once in the New Testament. In
Leviticus, atonement appears fifty one times, more than any other book of the bible. In Numbers it appears seventeen times and in Exodus eleven
times. The reason why it is used

Words associated with Kopher are redemption, price, bribe, camphire, pitch, ransom, satisfaction, village. An interesting side point to the word
Kopher is that it also denotes finger nail polish. Oriental females make a powder of camphire leaves then made the powder into a paste by use of
water and put in on their finger which gave them a reddish color. The word camphire comes from the same root as atonement just as a sinner could
pray for a colorful cover for his soul that was ruined by sin. Or Kippur means expiation but only in the plural. Expiation is found numerous times in the
Old
Testament for example in 2 Samuel 21:3, 1 Chronicles 6:49, and 2 Chronicles
29:24. The denominative verb which is to make an atonement, make reconciliation, or to purge is or Kapar.
There are three parent nouns for atonement and they are Koper, Kippur, and Kapporet. Koper or means ransom or gift to secure favor. Exodus 30:12 and
Isaiah 43:3 uses ransom and this is parallel to the word redeem. In 1 Samuel
12:3 Koper is used as "bribe". Kapar means to atone by offering a substitute.
This may be better understood if you use ransom with Koper (Harris, 453).
Kippur or is used in the "Day of the Atonement". This was celebrated by a special sin offering for the whole nation and only the high
priest could be allowed to sacrifice a goat. A second goat was released as an escape goat to symbolize a total removal of

Is The Bible Reliable Essay
In any book or letter, it is important to understand if it is reliable. If it is not reliable, then there is no need in reading it. The Bible is no different. As
Christians, it is vital to know that the Bible is historically reliable. The book Making Sense of the New Testament, written by Craig L. Blomberg, gives
many reasons how it is historically reliable. God may be the ultimate author of the Bible, but some people need more facts than that to understand that it
is reliable. Some people say that the Bible contradicts itself. While it may seem that way, often they do not read the context it is in. The New Testament
is harder to understand its reliability than the Old Testament because the majority are letters written to different churches. The Gospels also raise
questions to its reliability because some seem to contradict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people today believe that the Gospels are not reliable because they do not tell the same stories, but when that is put in perspective, that is
good. One youth pastor once said that if four people watch the same event, and four days later are asked what they saw, they would each give a
similar story, but they would not tell the same one. This is correct for the Gospels as well. The authors were all present, but later, wrote something
different due to the time gap. Blomberg states in the chapter "Is the New Testament Reliable?" that in our world, we tend to accept what a news
reporter or journalist has to say. But we never realize that the reporter is reading a script given to them by their secretary, who probably did not have
much time personally with the person being interviewed. This may sound unreliable, but that is what we believe. The Gospel writers are just like the
reporters, writing down what they remembered from the encounter, and what the Holy Spirit guides them to write. As Christians, we need to rely on
the Bible as much as we do

The Relationship Between Family And State In Antigone
Sophocles explores the relation between family and state in his play, Antigone. By juxtaposing ideas of public and private righteousness, he creates a
situation in which two infallible ideas must somehow compromise. Haemon has a unique perspective as the intermediary in the main conflict between
Creon and Antigone as Antigone's fiance and Creon's son. In turn, Sophocles relates age as a symbol of authority to political authority through
Haemon's advice to Creon and Creon's reaction.
Explicitly at the end of Haemon's speech, age is portrayed as a barrier that prevents beneficial ideas from being heard. Regarding Creon's decree
against the burial of his nephew Polyneices, many of the people do not believe it is just. After Haemon explains what the people think of his
father, he states, "Young as I am, if I may give advice ..." (719). His language is respectful towards his father, and he acknowledges his own youth,
yet this acknowledgement itself is representative of the effect that age has on their relationship. Age is depicted as a prerequisite for Haemon to give
advice despite the familial bond between him and his father. This reference towards their age difference is similar to an appeal that a citizen would
have for an audience with the king, so if a close familial bond is not enough to assume an innate respect for Haemon's opinions, then the subjects
themselves have little chance of their opinions being heard or acknowledged at all. Consequently, age is used as a

The Old Testament Of The Bible
There are several great leaders in the Old Testament of the Bible. However, there are some that deserve additional respect, and there are others that
do not even have the great appearance or qualifications of a leader. Just as there are leaders such as these, a person that is related to both of these types
of leaders is our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Old Testament leaders of the Bible that deserve further respect or do not have the greatest appearances or
qualifications of a leader are easily compared and contrasted to Jesus 's life and ministry.
Jesus ' life and ministry can be compared and contrasted to leaders of the Old Testament in the Bible that are highly underestimated. One example
of a leader who deserves a newfound respect Old Testament leader is Queen Esther, who was once a poor Jew, was crowned queen when King
This example is an excellent one of a great leader who deserves a far
greater respect than she deserves because Esther had the power

Jonathan Edwards's Sinners in the Hands on an Agry God
Jonathan Edwards's "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" is the epitome of a fire and brimstone sermon. Edwards was able to deliver this speech

nature even when read silently. Jonathan Edwards is capable of effectively communicating that his position as a reverend is a means of legitimizing his
ability to interpret the bible and all of its scriptures. Edwards finds success in his speech by his use of vivid and violent imagery. By doing this

hissovereign pleasure, his arbitrary will, restrained by no obligation, hindered by no manner of difficulty, any more than if nothing else but God's mere

Once Edwards has convinced his parishioners that God's true character is made of wrathfulness he can then continue to manipulate the congregation

To what extent do you agree with the view that the poem "perhaps" is the most significant of the poems we have read so far?

"Perhaps" is written in memory of her fiancГ© Roland Leighton who was tragically killed in the war. However the poem which appears in 'Testament of

In spite of this the poet realises in stanza four that it will be a whole year since her lover has died, just before Christmas and she then wonders if there
will ever be a time that she wont 'shrink in pain and listen to the Christmas songs again, although you cannot hear'. In the last two lines she is dealing
well with the loss but its emotional and upsetting losing a close one and the poet shows her loneliness in the poem.
The final stanza is a reference to the healing power of time which is referred to 'kind Time'. Although it mentions in the poem the one 'greatest joy'
is that time will never heal her grief for him 'because my heart for loss of You, was broken, long go.' As well as in the last stanza it was a fact that it
was only two months since the poet had lost her fiancГ©, but it makes a round ending to a poem.
The ending of the poem is poignant and optimistic at the same time and the poem shows that time is a healer and life does go on. Although nature
aids the process of grief as it is a constant occurrence and continues to live on and provide familiar structure for those coping with the loss of their
dear ones. This poem would have been appreciated by many young women at the time since such a vast number of men died during the war and as a
consequence the birth rate dropped significantly and many women lived their lives as spinsters or

Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby: Parallel between Jesus of Nazareth and Jay Gatsby
In his critical essay, "The Mystery of Ungodliness", Bryce J. Christensen writes about the parallel that F. Scott Fitzgerald creates between Jay Gatsby
and Jesus of Nazareth from the New Testament of the Christian Bible. Christensen explains thatFitzgerald once wrote a letter to his friend, John
Jamieson, explaining that he was going to write the story of Jay Gatsby's youth, but he did not because he wanted to maintain the element of mystery
that goes along with the novel. Christensen parallels this to the absence of any detail about the childhood and adolescence of Jesus in the New
Testament. Other parallels that Christensen describes include the description of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phrase, "son of God", is the tifle given to Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was, indeed, "about His Father's business". Also, Carraway describes
Gatsby's "Platonic conception of himself," meaning his own creation of an ideal self or a perfect self, while Jesus was recorded to be a perfect
creation. Another parallel recorded by Christensen is the description of the moments before Gatsby's death. In this part of the novel, Gatsby struggles
as he carries his float to the pool upon which he is killed. Similarly, Jesus is depicted in a struggle to carry his cross to the mount in Golgotha, upon
which He was crucified.
After discussing these parallels, Christensen proposes that Fitzgerald's parallel to Jesus is actually at odds with Christian truths. As evidence, he
introduces a work by a man named Ernest Renan, whom Fitzgerald is recorded to have great admiration for. Renan's work, titled The Life of Jesus,
depicts a man that Christensen believes Jay Gatsby was modeled after. This man was "faithful to his self–created dream but scornful of the factual truth
that finally crushes him and his dream," (157). Christensen argues that Fitzgerald's Gastby is like Renan's Jesus in that he is self–created and that his
attempted to destroy the gap between his ideal self and his real self only seems to prove that he cannot escape

St John Paul II : The Legacy Of Saint John Paul II
"Be not afraid!" (Weigel, 1999, p. 262). It was the first message sent by Saint John Paul II when he was elected the Pope (Weigel, 1999, p. 262). It is
evident in the message that his life is devoted to serving God and the Church (Weigel, 1999, p. 262). Saints are deceased human beings who have been
canonized by the Catholic Church ("Homily of Pope Francis," 2014). The cult of saints is the practice of venerating or revering saints. The analysis
will focus on the time period before he was the Pope, during his pontificate, and after his death when he is canonized by the Church as a saint. The
legacy of Saint John Paul II that he leaves behind as the Pope will be discussed and examined. The cult of Saint John Paul II is successful because he
is an admirable, respectable, and inspirational saint worthy of veneration.
Many texts written about Saint John Paul II documented that he was an academic and scholar before he became the pope (Kwitny, 1997, p. 10).
Saint John Paul II is praised for his intelligence ("Biographical Profile," 2014). The education he received has helped transform him into an

Allison Patton wrote a book review of Building a Healthy Multi–Ethnic Church: Mandate, Commitments, and Practices of a Diverse Congregation by

Clapham, as well as Brittain, led typical middle class lives with families who could support themselves. However, everything, from their lives to the
ones they loved most, changed once the War began. In Clapham's account, he talks about his experience on the battlefield, detailing many events. One
in particular was when his troop took over a trench and was checking out the barriers to make sure there was not any damage to them. Sadly, this was
the first thing he noticed instead of the dead bodies of the fallen German soldiers ("The Trauma of World War I", p. 6). This perpetuates the mindset of
the soldiers at war. They are losing their humanity and their capability to feel emotion. This is backed up by another situation he recounted where
their own soldier was shot, but they kept working and doing their job right beside him and also when they found a man wounded in the trenches,
but forgot about him and he "probably died" ("The Trauma of World War I", p. 6). All of this illustrates the pure animalistic nature that these
people had to turn into in order to survive the War. This can also parallel Brittain and her life during the War. She felt connected to the War since
her lover and brother were in it and did not want to continue living a life that "secluded life of scholastic vegetation" ("Testament of Youth", p. 74).
She joined the War workforce and endured many hardships and physical pain throughout the years as a nurse. Yet, through gaining her experience
like that of a soldier, resulted in a greater freedom from her family and others holding her down about what she wanted to do with her life. Brittain
chose to be a nurse because she wanted to get as close to the war as possible. She, moving away from the Victorian, pre–war society, was able to own
money and make her own decisions. From both of these accounts, having those

The Influence Of Labelling Theory On Criminal Justice Policy
Labelling theory has strengths and has influenced criminal justice policy, particularly regarding young offenders, recognising potentially toxic effects
from court through to custody. Diversion is now policy for all but the most serious persistent youth offenders and this can be credited to the work in
labelling. The CJS now targets those seen as "at risk of offending", and cautioning and community sentences are implemented when possible. (Ministry
of Justice 2015) Crime statistics (bar violent crime) had been declining since the 1990's and this could be seen as testament to the theories validity but
The Office for National(ONS) statistics show an increase in all crime which questions the current validity (ONS 2017) . Labelling theory perceives

Prophets From The Old Testament

  • 1. Prophets from the Old Testament Essay 4: Prophets The Old Testament is finished up with several different lessons that can be learned from the prophet's teachings. There were twelve different prophets in the Old Testament, who were also known as the Minor Prophets. The Jews were anxious to know who God was, and the Old Testament prophets offered understanding to many disputes. Idolatry, social injustice and religious ritualism are three topics that are highlighted in the prophet's teachings and impressed upon the hearts of believers today. Idolatry was one of the big issues among the Jews. God addressed this problem very early on in the Bible in Exodus 20:3–6 when He said, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." The prophets took this issue very seriously. Hosea was one of the Twelve Prophets, and his life correlates with the issue the Israelites were facing with idolatry. The name "Hosea" means "salvation", or "He saves". Hosea family life was rather unordinary. In Hosea 1:2 God spoke to Hosea and said, "Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord." Hosea's family life mirrored the "adulterous" relationship, which Israel had built on idols. The relationship that Hosea had with his wife, Gomer, parallels to the relationship that Israel had with God. Even though Gomer ran away from Hosea and slept with other men, Hosea still loved her and forgave her. The same is true with Israel and God. Even though the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Rob Rienow Summary Book Review Rienow, Rob. Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom: Uniting Church and Family in the Great Commission. Nashville, TN: Randall House, 2013. 325 pp. $18.04 Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom: Uniting Church and Family in the Great Commission addresses the challenge of how churches can centralize God 's call to parents to shepherd their children found in Deuteronomy chapter six. Rob Rienow founded Visionary Family Ministries with his wife Amy in 2004. In addition he is a pastor at Gospel Fellowship Church in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He earned an MA in theology at Wheaton College, an Mdiv from Trinity International Divinity School, and a Doctor of Ministry in Christian Leadership from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Rienow has authored many several books addressing family ministry including Visionary Parenting, Reclaiming the Sufficiency of Scripture, When They Turn Away: Drawing Your Adult Child Back to Christ and Five Reasons For Spiritual Apathy In Teen. In this work, Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom, he not only argues that every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He laments, "In some seminaries today pastors are not trained to use the Bible for ministry decisions." (12) He argues that the contrasting errors of adding human rules to God's Word and ignoring it all together, both reject the authority and the sufficiency of Scripture. Rienow maintains that Scripture is not relegated to the realm of 'religion,' but is sufficient for issues that we face day to day including family, marriage, education and government. He warns that taking a stand on the sufficiency of Scripture can be dangerous. He points out that Scriptural authority has been replaced outside and inside the church. He states, "We have become twisted and governed by a bizarre mix of feelings, personal experience, human wisdom and pragmatism, rather than the Scriptures." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary : ' The Old Testament ' Scriptural Perspectives In the Old Testament, many false religions included self–mutilation as worship. In 1 Kings 18:24–29, the prophets of Baal are described as cutting themselves with swords and spears in worship to their false god. As a result, God made a law against cutting as a form of worship in Leviticus 19:28: "You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord." Later, in the New Testament, cutting oneself was associated with a person who was known as being possessed by demons (Mark 5:2–5). Additionally, the New Testament submits that one's body should be taken care of: "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As it is, Christ, through the resurrection, calls us continually from our own graves in the present. Thus, the hope for the self–mutilator involves Christ calling the self–mutilator from her suffering grave. This call represents the apocalyptic breaking in of new creation upon the self–mutilator and thereby the transformations of her lacerations as Christ 's lacerations are likewise transformed. Jesus's blood spilled at the cross is the perfect substitution and hope for all people. Jesus perfectly fulfills all of the needs of people, including struggling adolescents. He is the ultimate stability, the ultimate control, and provides the ultimate relationship. Youth Worker Response and Opportunity Cutting and other forms of nonsuicidal self–injury are incredibly prevalent among American adolescents, which creates a significant responsibility for youth ministers and workers who wish to serve and protect their students to the best of their abilities. Based on the previously discussed motivations that drive many young teens to cutting, it is apparent that adolescents possess a specific set of needs that must be met in order for them to feel safe and contented. The first and possibly most important of these needs is the desire for human love and relationships. While parental love and support is the most important and influential of these relationships, other relationships are important as well, such as friendships with peers. Teens also constantly seek for hope beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Exegesis Paper On Psalm 104 Exegesis Paper In the Old Testament, Heman the Ezrahite, the son of Joel and the grandson of Samuel the judge and prophet of Israel, wrote Psalm 88. This Psalm is a very unique one in that it is the only one that does not end with an assertion of comfort or joy. It is very sad and melancholy and you can tell that it was written by someone in a very depressive state: 1 Lord, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry out to you. 2 May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. 3 I am overwhelmed with troubles and my life draws near to death. 4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like one without strength. 5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. 6 You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. 7 Your wrath lies heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. 8 You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape; 9 my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, Lord, every day; I spread out my hands to you. 10 Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do their spirits rise up and praise you? 11 Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction? 12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion? 13 But I cry to you for help, Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you. 14 Why, Lord, do you reject me and hide your ... • 5. Paulo Coelho And His Religious Diversity Paulo Coelho and his Religious Diversity The Alchemist contains many religious elements and symbolism that stem directly from Paulo Coelho's personal life. By incorporating a diverse collection of personal experiences to bring the world of The Alchemist alive, Paulo Coelho drew readers of all kinds to his novel. Even during his time at the Jesuit school, Paulo Coelho was developing thoughts and ideas of his own about faith and religion, ideas which are clearly reflected in The Alchemist. The variety of religious beliefs Paulo Coelho gained throughout his life significantly influenced The Alchemist. Paulo Coelho, born in Brazil, was brought up in a strict Catholic family. At a young age, he was sent to a Jesuit school, where he was held under strict rules and requirements, such as being forced to go to mass, with the threat of going to Hell always held over him. 'The chains of rigor were so heavy throughout my youth that very quickly I started to doubt this religion that showed no mercy, only constraint and suffering." (My Religious Education). After returning home from the school, he was placed in a mental institution for over three years due to his personality and rebellion against his family. After he was released from the institution, he started a life style as a "hippie," getting into drugs and writing rebellious lyrics for various singers (The Telegraph). After being arrested and tortured by government of Brazil, he completely gave up Catholicism and started exploring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The New Testament And The Christian Message Peace is often associated with the non–existence of war and violence, although various religious traditions have different interpretations and perspectives of what peace means to them through the use of sacred texts, adherents, principal beliefs, practices and rituals used within their religion. This can be demonstrated through the close analysis of two major religious traditions Christianity and Islam. The teaching of the New Testament affirms the centrality of peace to the Christian message. It was at the heart of the life and ministry ofJesus and accordingly is sought after and taken up by the communities that seek to follow Jesus. Peace is understood as more than merely an absence of violence and conflict. The most commonly used Greek word translated "love" in the New Testament is "agape." This love is represented by God 's love for us. It is a non–partial, sacrificial love probably best exemplified by God 's provision for our rebellion: "For God so loved (agape) the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16) Agape love requires a relationship with God through Jesus Christ since the non–regenerated soul is unable to love unconditionally. 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself. ' There is no other commandment greater than these. (NRSV, Mark 12:31) In Christianity, the principal teaching of peace comes from Christ (Pax Christi) and it is a peace that is transcendental, so it cannot be achieved through human works. This "transcendental" peace can be obtained through peace of soul, peace of mind, peace of heart and peace amongst humanity. The Pax Christi is a critical part of the principal teachings within Christianity as it demonstrates the way of life that a Christian should undertake, provides a sense of moral ethical guidance, places an emphasis on the concept of ... • 7. Summary Of Testament Of Youth By Vera Brrin Personal recounts of events can be more insightful to the details and facts than what can be found in the average history textbook. Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain is one of these personal recounts. Her own story of her experience as a woman from Britain during World War I confirms previously known facts and brings new aspects into light. When Britain first entered there was a massive amount of support and volunteers to join the military. Both Vera's brother and boyfriend were among the first to enlist. Young men were eager to fight in what they called a "greatwar", for they felt strong loyalty to their country. The war lasted much longer than what anyone would expect. When soldiers would return, they most likely came back completely different. They were either horrible disfigured physically or mentally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with these physical wounds, soldiers would return with "shell shock". This would come to be known as PTSD. During Rolland's leave back to home, he displayed signs of this disorder. He was losing who he was, and no longer felt the point of writing. Rolland is trying to be distant from Vera, and is even violent towards her. During his time in the trenches, he had witnessed one of his fellow soldiers who had been recently engaged shot in the head. This occured ten minutes after returning from his own leave. Because of this, Rolland distanced himself. A great majority of those lost in the war were college aged, including intelligent people full of potential such as Edward and ... • 8. Comparing All Quiet On The Western Front 'And Testament Of... By reading both "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "Testament of Youth", we learn that World War 1 had a tremendous effect, not only on the men in the trenches; but essentially on everyone; of all genders throughout Europe and the World. Vera Brittains, "Testament of Youth" tells the tale of her experiences working as a V.A.D (Voluntary Aid Detachment Nurse) in many areas, however in chapters five and six, she is stationed in London. She describes, in vivid details the struggles of working as a nurse in London during the war. In Remarques' novel, "All Quiet on the Western Front" we follow the life of a soldier, Paul Baumer who essentially enlists in the Army and is later deployed to the western front. Baumer experiences the horrors of war in many ways, due to this; he undergoes severe physical and psychological stress and he feels as if he will never be able to recover and become an ordinary civilian. In chapter five of "Testament of Youth" we start off with Brittains' transfer to St. Bartholomew's Hospital and the not so ideal living conditions there. Nurses had to walk about two and a half miles in the morning just to get to the hospital, regardless of whether it was cold, raining etc. and due to this many of the nurses became ill, in fact a nurse died from pneumonia, and many nurses developed "colds, bilious attacks, neuralgia, septic... • 9. History Of New Testament Times From The Birth Of Jesus 1.Give an overview of the history of New Testament times (from the birth of Jesus to the writing of the books). To understand the New Testament one must pay attention to the historical context of the world and times these events were written. In the Roman Empire, importance must be placed on the corresponding worlds of the Roman Jews and the Roman Christians of that time. Jewish history provides a rich backdrop for the New Testament, which is set in the Second Temple Period starting from the reconstruction of the Jerusalem temple at the end of the Babylonian exile and finishing with the destruction of the temple by the Romans in 70 CE. Jesus was born as the centre of human civilisation. At Birth, he was part of God's Plan in the incarnation of Christ. He lived in this era as a Jewish man in Palestine and interacted with Pharisees, experts in Jewish Law, rules and regulations, the Scribes who were in charge of all rituals, and Sadducees. Jesus was born approximately 6BC to 30AD. Growing up, his public ministry spanned three years. Other Jewish groups in Palestine at this time were Essenes, Zealots, Herodians and Samaritans. Relationships with Jews including Gentiles were strained. The Gentiles are important in later parts of the New Testament as the Mediterranean world gets more prominence compared to Palestine. The New Testament world and the Roman world was signified by great inequality economically with Jews and Gentiles concerned about the maintenance of honour and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Why Is It Important To Bring Hope To People During World... From the novel Just Mercy, Bryan Stevenson, the author, writes about the importance of hope people should have during difficult times to make them stronger. For instance, he states, "The kind of hope that creates a willingness to position oneself in a hopeless place and be a witness, that allows one to believe in a better future, even in the face of abusive power. That kind of hope makes one strong" (Stevenson 219). A person who gave people hope that made them strong was Vera Brittain. She was the author of "Testament of Youth" which stated horror of World War One ("Vera Brittain Biography"). • 11. Amish Sociology Introduction The social constructionism of the Amish community is one that passes quick judgment. The judgments might include the Amish having a simple life. The thought that the members are forced into the religion. That they lose out from choosing not to fully utilize electricity. That they must all dress the same. • 13. A Look at Christian Stewardship Essay There are the three main categories of the local and global church needs, non–Christian needs, and non–human needs to which I may distribute the money. Keller argues that the church should not provide for only those within the church, but those outside of it as well, paralleling the provisions commanded for the strangers and aliens of the Old Testament (Keller, 13–14). He also suggested that we should not give to others with the condition that they are a Christian or will become one after the aid. When Jesus healed the blind man, there was "no indication that Jesus gave the aid conditionally. He did not press him to believe as he healed him..." (Keller, 18). Also, non–Christian organizations may provide aid for Christians. Paul encourages... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pastor's salary–$200 It is not wrong for the Pastor to be financially supported by the church. In Num 18:24 we learn that "...the tithe of the people of Israel [God has] given to the Levites for an inheritance..." Though this situation is slightly different since Levites were not allowed to provide for their needs by other means, there is still a principal of providing for spiritual leaders. This is also seen in Gal 6:6 which states, "One who is taught the word must share all good things with the one who teaches". Perhaps the pastor's salary should not be based on the average income in the area, though, but by what his needs actually are. This would be more in alignment with how land was distributed in the Old Testament. "...Numbers 26:52–56 portrays a system of dividing up the land so that every tribe would have an amount proportionate to their numerical size...this did not mean that everyone should have the same, but that every family should have enough – enough to be economically viable" (Economics and the Poor, 157). This is a principle I also tried to follow in the following cases. Men without job–$5,000 each with family, 1,500 for man without=16,500 I distributed the money so that more was allotted to the men with families. • 14. Reflection On The Studyament Of The Old Testament This class has meant much to me, it has given me many things that I will not only carry with me throughout the rest of my life but also throughout the rest of my ministry. I will not only have the ability to use the knowledge gained in this class to enrich my own life and Biblical knowledge but also be able to enrich others' lives and lead them to better understanding and application of Biblical principles relating to the Old Testament. One thing that I took away from this class is that the Old Testament is more relevant in our lives than we often give it credit for, Job for example, being able to dive more deeply into his story we are able to see themes and emotions that deeply effect the ways in which we ourselves need to know and understand questions such as "Is God as just God, or is God unjust?" We often can unknowingly in modern times ask the same questions and have the same debate with other believers without ever actually stopping to realize the similarity and actual Biblical answers to such questions within the realm of the Old Testament. Furthermore, principles like understanding origins and original meaning of words of the Old Testament can play similarly into our lives and even ministry in the sense of fully being able to understand the true context and even meaning of scripture and passages of scripture at times. An example of this is in knowing that (for instance) Judges within the Old Testament were not simply like the modern day judge that we know today, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Combining personal reflections, letters, and poems, Brittain beautifully constructs a realistic, and searing portrayal of her life and the live of the lost generation. Utterly honest and revealing, Britain's memoir recollects her life, from provincial youth, to a V.A.D nurse grappling with the ghosts of the war. With the loss of everyone she has ever loved, her brother, her fiancГ©, and her friends, Testament of Youth, not only serves as an examination of World War One and the changing landscape of Great Britain, but also as a heart–breaking elegy to the lives lost during the Great War. My dad used to come home badly drunk almost every evening, and his entry to our home was the most frustrating and frightening thing I have ever experienced in my childhood. And I was growing under his parenting. However, the situation in my family changed dramatically when my parents decided to convert into Christianity in 1993. I cannot explain how my father changed himself from being a problem of the family to being a solution of the problem in the family, but I know his decision to follow Jesus made this possible. I was ten years old when I attended the church for the first time. From this time onward, I never had to fear that my father might come home drunk, and create disharmony in the family. Everything started happening just the opposite. He became a God–fearing man. He taught us to love God, pray to God, and follow the instructions from the words of God. My parents raised my siblings and me by providing us a godly home. Daily family devotional time, scripture reading, attending Sunday school, and worship service every week became our family

Throughout this memoir Brittain expresses her belief that women should break free of the subordinance that is held to them, in comparison to men, as well as her campaign to find alternatives to war. In both instances, Brittain is completely correct;, men and women should not have to risk their lives or deal with the devastation that is stimulated by war for the sake of politics.; Asas for the subordinance held to women, at that point in time and thereafter, women should not have to live in the shadows of men or hold to the superficial standards set by society. ... This statement was Vera's yearning for herself and all women to be recognized as equally capable as men are. Brittain believed that women shouldn't have to live in the shadows of men, especially after the war. During the war, women at home did the jobs men were accustomed to doing and many times performed an exemplary job at it. As Christians, it is vital to know that the Bible is historically reliable. The book Making Sense of the New Testament, written by Craig L. Blomberg, gives many reasons how it is historically reliable. God may be the ultimate author of the Bible, but some people need more facts than that to understand that it is reliable. Some people say that the Bible contradicts itself. While it may seem that way, often they do not read the context it is in. Blomberg states in the chapter "Is the New Testament Reliable?" that in our world, we tend to accept what a news reporter or journalist has to say. By juxtaposing ideas of public and private righteousness, he creates a situation in which two infallible ideas must somehow compromise. Haemon has a unique perspective as the intermediary in the main conflict between Creon and Antigone as Antigone's fiance and Creon's son. In turn, Sophocles relates age as a symbol of authority to political authority through Haemon's advice to Creon and Creon's reaction. Explicitly at the end of Haemon's speech, age is portrayed as a barrier that prevents beneficial ideas from being heard. Regarding Creon's decree against the burial of his nephew Polyneices, many of the people do not believe it is just. After Haemon explains what the people think of his father, he states, "Young as I am, if I may give advice ..." (719). His language is respectful towards his father, and he acknowledges his own youth, yet this acknowledgement itself is representative of the effect that age has on their relationship. Age is depicted as a prerequisite for Haemon to give advice despite the familial bond between him and his father. This reference towards their age difference is similar to an appeal that a citizen would have for an audience with the king, so if a close familial bond is not enough to assume an innate respect for Haemon's opinions, then the subjects themselves have little chance of their opinions being heard or acknowledged at all. "Do you not see how generality persons of your years are passed over and left, in the present remarkable and wonderful dispensation of God's mercy? You had need to consider yourselves, and awake thoroughly out of sleep." He then shouts to the youth: "And you, young men, and young women, will you neglect this precious season which you now enjoy, when so many others of your age are renouncing all youthful vanities, and flocking to Christ? You especially have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Naar Research Paper Question: "When Elisha called two bears out of the woods that mauled the children, did God approve of the apparent child abuse?" The word "children" in the KJV comes from the Hebrew word naar, which is a generic term and can refer to anyone who has not reached complete maturity. For example, Joseph was called a young man [naar] when he was thirty years old. (Genesis 41: 12, 46) The word naar is also translated as: youths and lads on other occasions in the Old Testament. The context must be considered when determining the age of the naar. Elisha was walking toward Bethel from Jericho "and some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, 'Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead! So he turned around and looked at them, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. “Perhaps –“Vera Brittain "Perhaps –"Vera Brittain To what extent do you agree with the view that the poem "perhaps" is the most significant of the poems we have read so far? The poem "Perhaps" is written by Vera Britain, who was an English writer, feminist and pacifist but she is best remembered as the author of the best selling memoir 'Testament of Youth ' recounting her experiences during World War 1 and the beginning of her journey towards pacifism. The poem "Perhaps" is written in memory of her fiancГ© Roland Leighton who was tragically killed in the war. However the poem which appears in 'Testament of Youth' was not written until two moths after his death. The structure of the poem "Perhaps" is written five quatrains and the speaker reflects on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In spite of this the poet realises in stanza four that it will be a whole year since her lover has died, just before Christmas and she then wonders if there will ever be a time that she wont 'shrink in pain and listen to the Christmas songs again, although you cannot hear'. In the last two lines she is dealing well with the loss but its emotional and upsetting losing a close one and the poet shows her loneliness in the poem. The final stanza is a reference to the healing power of time which is referred to 'kind Time'. Although it mentions in the poem the one 'greatest joy' is that time will never heal her grief for him 'because my heart for loss of You, was broken, long go.' As well as in the last stanza it was a fact that it was only two months since the poet had lost her fiancГ©, but it makes a round ending to a poem. The ending of the poem is poignant and optimistic at the same time and the poem shows that time is a healer and life does go on. Although nature aids the process of grief as it is a constant occurrence and continues to live on and provide familiar structure for those coping with the loss of their dear ones. This poem would have been appreciated by many young women at the time since such a vast number of men died during the war and as a consequence the birth rate dropped significantly and many women lived their lives as spinsters or ... • 34. Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby: Parallel between Jesus of Nazareth and Jay Gatsby In his critical essay, "The Mystery of Ungodliness", Bryce J. Christensen writes about the parallel that F. Scott Fitzgerald creates between Jay Gatsby and Jesus of Nazareth from the New Testament of the Christian Bible. Christensen explains thatFitzgerald once wrote a letter to his friend, John Jamieson, explaining that he was going to write the story of Jay Gatsby's youth, but he did not because he wanted to maintain the element of mystery that goes along with the novel. Christensen parallels this to the absence of any detail about the childhood and adolescence of Jesus in the New Testament. Other parallels that Christensen describes include the description of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The phrase, "son of God", is the tifle given to Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was, indeed, "about His Father's business". Also, Carraway describes Gatsby's "Platonic conception of himself," meaning his own creation of an ideal self or a perfect self, while Jesus was recorded to be a perfect creation. Another parallel recorded by Christensen is the description of the moments before Gatsby's death. In this part of the novel, Gatsby struggles as he carries his float to the pool upon which he is killed. Similarly, Jesus is depicted in a struggle to carry his cross to the mount in Golgotha, upon which He was crucified. After discussing these parallels, Christensen proposes that Fitzgerald's parallel to Jesus is actually at odds with Christian truths. As evidence, he introduces a work by a man named Ernest Renan, whom Fitzgerald is recorded to have great admiration for. Renan's work, titled The Life of Jesus, depicts a man that Christensen believes Jay Gatsby was modeled after. This man was "faithful to his self–created dream but scornful of the factual truth that finally crushes him and his dream," (157). Christensen argues that Fitzgerald's Gastby is like Renan's Jesus in that he is self–created and that his attempted to destroy the gap between his ideal self and his real self only seems to prove that he cannot escape ... • 35. St John Paul II : The Legacy Of Saint John Paul II "Be not afraid!" (Weigel, 1999, p. 262). It was the first message sent by Saint John Paul II when he was elected the Pope (Weigel, 1999, p. 262). It is evident in the message that his life is devoted to serving God and the Church (Weigel, 1999, p. 262). Saints are deceased human beings who have been canonized by the Catholic Church ("Homily of Pope Francis," 2014). The cult of saints is the practice of venerating or revering saints. The analysis will focus on the time period before he was the Pope, during his pontificate, and after his death when he is canonized by the Church as a saint. The legacy of Saint John Paul II that he leaves behind as the Pope will be discussed and examined. The cult of Saint John Paul II is successful because he is an admirable, respectable, and inspirational saint worthy of veneration. Many texts written about Saint John Paul II documented that he was an academic and scholar before he became the pope (Kwitny, 1997, p. 10). Saint John Paul II is praised for his intelligence ("Biographical Profile," 2014). The education he received has helped transform him into an influential and intelligent Pope who transformed the Church ("Biographical Profile," 2014). He "attained a doctorate in theology" and he was educated in philosophy ("Biographical Profile," 2014). In Poland, he "became professor of moral theology and ethics in a seminary and university" ("Biographical Profile," 2014). He specialized in theology because he wanted to teach about religion ... • 36. Renaissance Dbq The Renaissance was the period of time after the Black Death when people wanted to start over with their lives and make better decisions. During this time there were several significant artists that had great attributes and showed each of the classics, Raphael, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Donatello. I believe that the most significant Renaissance artist was Michelangelo. Michelangelo often went above and beyond what his original plans were, "The project fueled Michelangelo's imagination, and the original plan for 12 apostles morphed into more than 300 figures on the ceiling of the sacred space." (web–source 1). He wanted his work to be done correctly so it would look the way he wanted it. He showed humanism within this painting, "The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. John Ortberg's Story Of Rehoboam In The Bible Imagine being in your mid–twenties and walking into a church and only seeing people who are the same age as your grandparents. Your immediate thought would likely be to walk out, because you don't really belong. Second, imagine moving to America from a foreign country and walking into a church building only seeing white Americans. In this situation, you would probably also walk out. The last scenario is to imagine being in your mid–twenties and walking into a church seeing people who are just like you. In the last situation, you would probably consider walking in and taking a seat. We are generally attracted to situations where there are other people around who are just like us. The issue with this is that these feelings have poured over into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allison Patton wrote a book review of Building a Healthy Multi–Ethnic Church: Mandate, Commitments, and Practices of a Diverse Congregation by Mark DeYmaz. Patton gives a brief overview of the book, then shares what she thinks. Mark DeYmaz was serving at a church in Little Rock, AR as the youth pastor. He noticed a racial divide in the church, and decided that something needed to be done about it. In 2001, DeYmaz and his wife opened up a new church in the community named Mosaic that was modeled after the New Testament church at Antioch. After only six years, Mosaic grew into a large multi–ethnic congregation that represented over thirty different nations (339). Patton does not read the Bible literally, and almost set down DeYmaz's book after only reading the first part. She kept reading though and found the strength of the book "in its incisive and pragmatic approach to creating and sustaining culturally (if not theologically) diverse communities of faith (340). Even though Patton has different biblical views, she can still see the importance of blending cultures and embracing diversity. Diversity is a major issue within churches, which is the place where we should be loving and accepting of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Vera Brittain's 'Testament Of Youth' The Great War, World War I, was a time of great turmoil for many people in Europe and America. The impact of this war was felt by all who lived through this era and the generations after the War. This essay will aim to analyze what factors contributed to the notions that Vera Brittain asserts on how the Great War affected her generation, their worldview, her experiences compared to the attitudes and experiences presented in the war propaganda posters, and also in Clapham's account in regards to pre–war, war, and post–war factors. The sources used will include; Vera Brittain's novel, "Testament of Youth". It is a memoir entailing her life before, during, and after war. It mentioned how Vera struggled to get to college even though she was of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clapham, as well as Brittain, led typical middle class lives with families who could support themselves. However, everything, from their lives to the ones they loved most, changed once the War began. In Clapham's account, he talks about his experience on the battlefield, detailing many events. One in particular was when his troop took over a trench and was checking out the barriers to make sure there was not any damage to them. Sadly, this was the first thing he noticed instead of the dead bodies of the fallen German soldiers ("The Trauma of World War I", p. 6). This perpetuates the mindset of the soldiers at war. They are losing their humanity and their capability to feel emotion. This is backed up by another situation he recounted where their own soldier was shot, but they kept working and doing their job right beside him and also when they found a man wounded in the trenches, but forgot about him and he "probably died" ("The Trauma of World War I", p. 6). All of this illustrates the pure animalistic nature that these people had to turn into in order to survive the War. This can also parallel Brittain and her life during the War. She felt connected to the War since her lover and brother were in it and did not want to continue living a life that "secluded life of scholastic vegetation" ("Testament of Youth", p. 74). She joined the War workforce and endured many hardships and physical pain throughout the years as a nurse. Yet, through gaining her experience like that of a soldier, resulted in a greater freedom from her family and others holding her down about what she wanted to do with her life. Brittain chose to be a nurse because she wanted to get as close to the war as possible. She, moving away from the Victorian, pre–war society, was able to own money and make her own decisions. From both of these accounts, having those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Influence Of Labelling Theory On Criminal Justice Policy Labelling theory has strengths and has influenced criminal justice policy, particularly regarding young offenders, recognising potentially toxic effects from court through to custody. Diversion is now policy for all but the most serious persistent youth offenders and this can be credited to the work in labelling. The CJS now targets those seen as "at risk of offending", and cautioning and community sentences are implemented when possible. (Ministry of Justice 2015) Crime statistics (bar violent crime) had been declining since the 1990's and this could be seen as testament to the theories validity but The Office for National(ONS) statistics show an increase in all crime which questions the current validity (ONS 2017) . This compare and contrast essay will tell you how they are different by comparing Hantu and Hamlet. I will be writing this essay because both theses story's and have the same theme which is horror, but the plot of the story is completely different. So for the plot they both start out obviously with characters in Hantu the main character is a young youth, but for hamlet the main character is hamlet himself. One more thing different can also be the setting the difference in the setting is Hantu is in a more modern setting as people have started taking selfies, as well based on the way that the young youth ...
