Locations:
Our initial location for the storyline is the outside of Michaela’s house, and the street leading up to
it that the friends will walk down to get to the house. It is in this period of time that Michaela will
actually introduce the theory that her house is haunted and she suggests that the friends should
come and stay. This location allows us to be able to use natural lighting and ambient sound that is
in relation to the outside and being near a main road during the day, creating a more realistic setting
for the characters who are shown to be innocent and conventional teenagers.
Another location for our storyline is to be Michaela’s house that Michaela announces to be haunted.
This will serve as the main basis for the storyline and it is also where many of the key events will
take place in the trailer. We have found this to be the most conventional for the horror genre
because the house is shown from the outside to be normal and therefore to be an unsuspecting
location which appeals to the target audience and links to other popular horror films such as the
conjuring.
Props:
All of the props that we will throughout the storyline are heavily associated to the chosen genre of
horror and we have decided on our props through feedback from our target audience. We will use;
ticking clocks, a sharp knife, blood and objects with religious connotations to them. The reason we
have chosen to use this range of props is because they are conventional for the genre and are
regularly used in other horror films that share the same target audience as that of our storyline.
These props will help to add to the dark and mysterious tone that we are putting across to fit the
chosen genre.
Costume:
The costumes that we have chosen to have the characters wear are casual. This meets the
convention that the characters are normal people and are unsuspecting victims for the genre of
horror. We may also use dark clothing because these colours connote danger and death for the
characters which is common in a horror trailer.
The use of blood to show that Sophie is in danger and has been brutally attacked by James will
connote the belief that she is vulnerable and weak when coming up against a possessed James. The
use of fake blood will show that she is in danger and build tension for the audience.
2. Personnel/Casting:
Michaela – Character: Michaela – a 17 year old sixth form student, a main character in the story,
who believes her house to be haunted, leading to her inviting her 3 other friends to come and stay
at her to try and find out if the ghost really exists. Michaela is also shown at the end of the trailer to
be the only one of the friends still breathing.
James – Character: James – a 17 year old sixth form student, one of Michaela’s close friends who
was invited to stay at her ‘haunted’ house, along with Sophie and Libby to see if the ghost is real.
James becomes possessed by the spirit in Michaela’s house and goes on to kill Libby and leave
Sophie for dead.
Libby – Character: Libby – a 17 year old sixth form student. A friend of Michaela’s and one of the
friends to be invited to stay the night at her haunted house. Libby is the most impressionable out of
Sophie and James and secretly believes that the ghosts Michaela talks of are real. Libby ends up
being killed by James peacefully.
Sophie – Character: Sophie – a 17 year old sixth form student and friend of Michaela, James and
Libby. Sophie is the most reluctant to believe that ghosts and especially that Michaela’s house is
haunted. Sophie starts off joking around with Michaela for her believing that ghosts exist, but after
watching some of the footage that they have recorded she is the most scared and wants to leave
quickly. Sophie is brutally attacked by James after he is possessed and turned into a demon, being
left for dead.
