Locations
Our film trailer will begin with an establishing shot of the outside of Chloe’s family house, allowing
the audience to then be introduced to the main characters within the trailer and film. Within this
period of time we are introduced to the significant prop of the teddy. This location allows us to use
natural lighting during the day which creates a realistic setting for the characters.
The storyline will then progress to the inside of the house, this is where the characters first find clues
which leads them to the evil spirit that is living among them. This will serve as the main location for
our trailer, in particular the bedroom and living room, in which h many key events will occur
throughout the film. We feel that this location is conventional for horror films and appeals to the
target audience as well as linking with other horror films such as paranormal activity.
Props
The props that we have chosen to use throughout our trailer are highly associated with films of a
horror genre. We found this out through our target audience research which allowed us to see not
only what props are conventional for our genre but also what is conventional for our main
characters. We will use; Teddy, note, vase and other household items. The reason we have chosen
these specific props is because they regularly appear within horror films that share the same target
audience. The note is a significant prop as it is highly associated with our films title and is a theme
that runs throughout. These props will help to add to the dark and cryptic tone that will be used
throughout.
Costume
All of our characters will appear to be wearing normal everyday clothing. The parents will be wearing
jeans and t-shirts whereas the little girl will stereotypically be wearing a pretty dress. However, as
the trailer progresses, these clothes will get ripped and dirty, contributing to the overall effect of the
films storyline. This style of costume is conventional as it creates realism within the family. This
makes the trailer more mysterious as the audience are unaware who the victim is. This style of
costume will connote danger as the film goes on which is stereotypical for a horror genre.
The use of blood and dirt will show that the main character is in danger, showing the other
characters around her as being vulnerable. This will contribute to the overall effect and build-up of
tension.
Personnel/Casting
Bethany Munden – Character name: Beth – a 10 year old girl, also the main character within the
storyline who is first to discover clues, which lead to her being possessed contributing to the overall
plot.
We have chosen to use Beth for our main character as from our audience research it is appealing to
use younger people as main characters. It is also conventional for a horror genre due to thei r typical
innocent nature that is portrayed alternatively.
2. Lewis Jupp – Character name: Freddie – a 17 year old boy, who is going to be portrayed older, as the
father of the family.
We have chosen to use Lewis as the father as we feel that he looks older than 17 so would be well
suited to this role within the film. Also our family is of younger generation to make it more realistic
to today’s society. Also the use of a younger character onscreen with him, he will appear older.
Amy Jane Wilson – Character name: Charlotte – a 17 year old girl, who is going to be portrayed
older, as the mother of the family.
We have chosen to use Amy as the mother as we feel that she also looks older than 17 so would be
well suited to this role within the horror trailer. Also the family that we are using is of younger
generation to make it more realistic to today’s society. Also the use of the younger main character
will make Amy appear older.
