1. NOIR PLAN – EMILIA KATHERINE ROSIE 1
Report on our Initial Plan
16 October 2016
Introduction
We are three A2 Media Studies students. In June 2016 we found out that we were
going to be constructing a Neo Noir trailer and since then we have been researching
weekly about the Neo Noir genre. As a group we have watched the genre’s key films eg.
Chinatown, Nightcrawler and Brick and analysed, discussed and noted important
features, which widened our understanding. This has led to our group being able to know
how to construct a Neo Noir trailer due to our knowledge of the genre’s syntactic and
semantic elements. This has meant that starting our A Level year in September 2016 we
have been able to start researching trailers and planning our final trailer. After producing
our horror opening sequence last year, as a class we had more of an idea of people’s
strengths and weaknesses in film making. This meant that when we came to choosing our
groups we tried to complement our own skills and have a balance of talents within a
group. Our group is made up of Emilia, Rosie and Katherine.

Film Plot
What are the key features of the plot?
Mother and wife, Mardi dies in hospital the day before she is due to be discharged
because of successful treatment for her cancer. It is assumed that it was a sudden
relapse in her cancer.
The hospital tries to ring Mardi’s husband Mark but he is uncontactable. When
they tell him and his stepson at the house in the morning he is devastated and so is
his stepson James.
However, the autopsy of Mardi’s body shows the drug epinephrine in her system
which, causes people to have a heart attack.
The security cameras outside the hospital show Mark entering the building 5
minutes before she died.
What the police don’t realise is that Mark was going to see Kristen, Mardi’s nurse
who he is having an affair with.
Mark immediately breaks up with Kristen because he feels so guilty and is
concerned that it will add to evidence against him killing his wife if they know that
he wasn’t in love with her any more.
Kristen is angry that Mark has deserted her and so uses his stepson to try and
blackmail Mark into loving her.
Kristen makes James fall in love with her and she persuades James that Mark is
guilty and makes him place evidence, like epinephrine in Mark’s possession.
Once everything is in place, Kristen goes back to Mark and tells him the whole
story. That she killed Mardi so they could be together and that she has all the
evidence needed to frame Mark. She gives Mark the choice, to be with her or to go
to prison for the rest of his life.
Mark chooses prison
Kristen gets away with murder
