2. Total Film is a UK-based film
magazine published 13 times a year
(every four weeks) by Future
Publishing. The magazine was
launched in 1997 and offers cinema,
DVD and Blu-ray news, reviews and
features. Total Film is available both
in print and interactive iPad editions.
Both these magazine front covers
are from Total Film Magazine. Even
though they look completely
different they are recognisable from
there title which even as a different
colour is the same size, in the same
area on the page. Both the
characters who are on the front of
the page cover the title showing us
that their audience will still recognise
the title even if some of it is covered.
They use different puffs and
straplines. They however both use
one character on the page and as the
background it is linked to the main
character as it is there background.
3. The House Style for both
magazine front covers are
different but follow the same
theme. The background is a
picture of a scene for the first
front cover the red background
makes the character stand out the
red also goes well with the white
title of the magazine. The main
character stands out as his dark
clothing with hints of red is made
to stand out due to the red
background. The font for the first
magazine is also white which
stands out. The second magazine
uses the same technique of the
white title however the
background is a picture of a
symbol to do with the movie
although you cant see the picture
clearly people who have seen the
film will recognise it.
4. Total film use the same technique for
both the front covers. Although they
both use one image of a character
the first magazine has a full body
shot compared to a mid shot of the
character and she is mostly covered
by writing. Y0u can still see the face
clearly as it covers the title. She is
wearing plain black clothes which
make her stand out from the
background and writing as they are
an opposite colour. The second
magazine has a full body shot of the
character who covers both the title
and a strapline this shows us as the
audience he is well known and
people will instantly recognise him
and his name. A technique I want to
use for my magazine is that both the
characters are looking towards the
camera and engaging the audience.
The images are also of a high quality
and are sharpened up which I plan to
do with my images.
5. The backgrounds of a magazine
front cover is very important you
can either have a plain
background, or a picture
background which for both the
magazines they have used. For
the magazine on the left they
have used a red lighting
background which is plain but by
adding the lightning strikes it
lights up the character to make
him stand out. The font colour is
white and light grey which goes
well with the red background and
makes it stand out. The magazine
front cover on the right they use a
picture of the character using a
mid shot but most of her body is
covered but she covers most of
the title which tell us that the
magazine title is familiar and the
audience who will buy the
magazine will know it is a total
film magazine.
6. There are many straplines on
each magazine front cover. On
the left front cover they are in
grey and white which stands out
from the background. The also
use a grey background for some
of them with white writing I would
not use this for my magazine as I
believe it is hard to read and could
stand out more by using different
colours. I like the magazine on the
right as the background is quite
busy the white writing and using
the same colour as the
background as writing actually
makes it stand out as well as
going with the magazine. I like
that the straplines font is big and
bold using capitals for all the
words. They also stick with the
same font for the whole magazine
which makes it look more
profesional.
