Mission statement
Tony Mutombo
My magazine is called “Presidential” and I have targeted it at the women and
men across the world that are huge fans and followers of the hardcore hip hop
genre. Presidential is a fresh new and exciting music magazine that has been
written to celebrate the achievements of the artists in the music genre; as well
as boost the fan bases of newly come artists and their mix tapes. The magazine
will focus mostly on the underground artists, helping them gain followers and
fans in their push to stardom. The name Presidential emulates the music genre.
To be presidential is to lead, to be wealthy and to be admirable. To be of the
nature of a president. The magazine portrays the artists to be this way.
Stereotypically speaking, the world views and pictures the hip hop genre to be
full of vulgar and inapt images of young female artists posing half naked and
getting up to promiscuous behaviour and the males being wayward by being
involved in crime activity and smoking and parting in drugs. Presidential brings
out the good side of the hip hop genre, aiming to defeat all stereotypes and to
show other people outside of the target audience of why the hip hop genre is so
popular within the teen audience.
The hip hop genre has grown massively in the last ten years. With the audience
of people listening to the genre massively growing each year; and the artists in
the music genre gaining wider publicity its time the world was informed about
whom they really are and where they came from. With hip hop artists having to
become mainstream to attract a larger audience, this magazine will provide
information for my target audience that no other magazine would publish. This
magazine will be a chance to see the real artist before their change in style; a
magazine that focuses on the hardcore hip hop genre. A magazine that sees‟
women and male artists to be equal in the hip hop community and gives every
artist or musical group a chance to feature. The most influential musicians will
feature within the pages of Presidential magazine. Want to find out who they
are?
The magazine will be published on a monthly basis and will sell at a price of
£3.99. A 40 page manual on the world of hip hop, it will be found at all
newsagents and supermarkets. It will also be found in all entertainment outlets
such as HMV, large fashion stores and music retailers. The readership will also
have the option of subscribing to the magazine either by post or via the
magazine‟s website, www.presidentialmagazine.co.uk . Once the user subscribes
him or she may be able to make an account on the website and enter a forum.
Presidential is a music magazine that focuses heavily on the hip-hop
genre and the stardom of artists in that genre. The magazine will help
promote new artists as well as inform the audience of the new singles,
albums and mix tapes that are to be released. The magazine will provide
the audience with reviews and inform them on what‟s hot and what‟s not.
Alongside singles, albums and mix tapes, the magazine will also inform
the target audience of which artist is coming to the country and tell them
when they‟re going to do a tour or gig. The readership will also be able to
view exciting interviews and reading profiles of their favourite artist and
articles about aspiring singers and bands that are striving to make it in
the music industry. As well as succeeding professionally, these artists are
major trendsetters who inspire fashion trends, promote accessories and
create certain words and catchphrases. The magazine will celebrate this
too with a regular fashion page and with a feature on the biggest artists.
As a magazine, Presidential will want to reward and treat its reader. The
magazine will have competitions that will allow readers to compete for a
chance to meet an artist of their choice. The magazine will also feature a
prize. The readership will be given a free £15 iTunes voucher; allowing
them to download their favourite songs from iTunes. One issue might be
giving away concert or gig tickets to view the artist of the moment. The
readership will also have free and unlimited access to the magazines own
website, which they can use every day to keep up to date with fresh news
from the world of hip-hop.
The magazine will consist of the world‟s biggest hip-hop and R&B stars.
The magazine will be split in two. One section will be full of the hip hop
music beasts dominating the charts and embracing their success; and the
other section will feature up and coming artists that are trying to make it
in the music scene. Presidential magazine would like to inform the
audience that underground music is just as good as mainstream music,
and would like to help the target audience gain a larger music variety.
The magazine will strive to encourage the reader to celebrate and
embrace him or herself.
Like its readers and the artists featured within it, Presidential is a unique
music magazine. It‟s the only magazine that will feature both American
and British artists. Mainstream artists, successful artists and underground
artists. Readers will find it a fun, modern but friendly publication, which
offers an honest and entertaining election of features. Presidential is sure
that the target audience will enjoy reading the magazine.
Target Audience Profile
The reader of Presidential magazine would either be a male or female
between the ages of 15-25 years old. The target audience are young
people who are street smart, are passionate about hip-hop and music and
enjoy having of a lot of fun. The target audience are a large group of
people who are full of confidence and have belief in their onions and
ideas; they are never afraid to speak their mind. He or she have a great
appetite when it comes to having a party, they are dedicated fans and
follow fashion trends and aim to look great 24 hours a day. A group of
people that aren‟t insecure and use music as a way out of troublesome
times they enjoy and appreciate the music being made in the hip hop
genre and enjoy reading and finding out about the artists that make
them.
Either still in compulsory education, doing degrees in university or a
graduate the reader belongs to the world of hip-hop. The target audience
are comfortable financially and like to let loose whenever they have free
money to spend. His younger side of the target audience may use hip-hop
music to seek excitement after a long hardworking day at school, or as an
escape route if feeling down. The target audience would be huge fans of
the genre and feel that music is an essential part of the day, using their
mp3 players or other electronic devices to play their favourite songs
during journeys or times when they need company. The target audience
are confident, independent individuals that enjoy sharing the glorious
music with their friends, families and lovers. Nevertheless, he or she does
like to indulge occasionally and loves quiet nights out with friends or
family, or lazy nights in where they can enjoy young adult programmes
such as „Bad Education‟, „Made in Chelsea‟ and „The Inbetweeners‟.
Music is a passion to my target audience. He or she listens to music
everyday without fill to the point where it accompanies her life; the songs
change according to what he/she doing at the given time and also to what
mood he/she is in. the target audience joy listening and watching live
performances as well as listening to new artists. They enjoy visiting the
most decorated nightclubs around and enjoy visiting them occasionally to
have a night to remember with friends. The hip hop music beasts such as
Jay-Z, Kanye West and Eminem would be on their iPods; and their clever
word play, heavy punch lines, and magical flow would blow the audience
away into a mystical world of hip hop. At the same time they love the
feisty and feminine brilliance that female artists Beyonce, Mariah Carey
and Nicki Minaj bring to the table. It is not only these artists‟ song writing
talent that make them appealing for the target audience but also their
confidence, success and uniqueness, which they find inspiring and
refreshing.
He reader of Presidential does not currently read any other music
magazines for he/she finds that they don‟t appeal to his/her musical
tastes and that they are too verbal and formal in tone. Presidential is an
informal and easy read magazine that allows the target audience to
escape from the real world and vision their hip-hop society. The older side
of the target audience do read other magazines such as Auto Trader and
Cosmo whilst the younger side may have other interests and read other
magazines such as Match magazine and OK magazine. Films are another
source of pleasure. The target audience enjoy viewing action movies as
well comedies and horrors, which they either enjoy watching at cinemas
or on a sofa with their closest friends. The reader is an active Internet
user and spends many hours interacting and socialising on social
networking sites, shopping or watching music videos on websites such as
Vevo and YouTube.
The target audience may use this magazine as a way to read about their
favourite artists as well as finding out about new ones. It helps inform the
target audience about up and coming gigs and concerts as well as the
realising of mix tapes and albums. The magazine could be used as a way
of seeking entertainment as the user will be given a quiz to test their
knowledge on the genre and be given a fair opportunity o winning tickets
to see an artist of their choice live.

Mission statement & target audience profile

  • 1. Mission statement Tony Mutombo My magazine is called “Presidential” and I have targeted it at the women and men across the world that are huge fans and followers of the hardcore hip hop genre. Presidential is a fresh new and exciting music magazine that has been written to celebrate the achievements of the artists in the music genre; as well as boost the fan bases of newly come artists and their mix tapes. The magazine will focus mostly on the underground artists, helping them gain followers and fans in their push to stardom. The name Presidential emulates the music genre. To be presidential is to lead, to be wealthy and to be admirable. To be of the nature of a president. The magazine portrays the artists to be this way. Stereotypically speaking, the world views and pictures the hip hop genre to be full of vulgar and inapt images of young female artists posing half naked and getting up to promiscuous behaviour and the males being wayward by being involved in crime activity and smoking and parting in drugs. Presidential brings out the good side of the hip hop genre, aiming to defeat all stereotypes and to show other people outside of the target audience of why the hip hop genre is so popular within the teen audience. The hip hop genre has grown massively in the last ten years. With the audience of people listening to the genre massively growing each year; and the artists in the music genre gaining wider publicity its time the world was informed about whom they really are and where they came from. With hip hop artists having to become mainstream to attract a larger audience, this magazine will provide information for my target audience that no other magazine would publish. This magazine will be a chance to see the real artist before their change in style; a magazine that focuses on the hardcore hip hop genre. A magazine that sees‟ women and male artists to be equal in the hip hop community and gives every artist or musical group a chance to feature. The most influential musicians will feature within the pages of Presidential magazine. Want to find out who they are? The magazine will be published on a monthly basis and will sell at a price of £3.99. A 40 page manual on the world of hip hop, it will be found at all newsagents and supermarkets. It will also be found in all entertainment outlets such as HMV, large fashion stores and music retailers. The readership will also have the option of subscribing to the magazine either by post or via the magazine‟s website, www.presidentialmagazine.co.uk . Once the user subscribes him or she may be able to make an account on the website and enter a forum.
  • 2. Presidential is a music magazine that focuses heavily on the hip-hop genre and the stardom of artists in that genre. The magazine will help promote new artists as well as inform the audience of the new singles, albums and mix tapes that are to be released. The magazine will provide the audience with reviews and inform them on what‟s hot and what‟s not. Alongside singles, albums and mix tapes, the magazine will also inform the target audience of which artist is coming to the country and tell them when they‟re going to do a tour or gig. The readership will also be able to view exciting interviews and reading profiles of their favourite artist and articles about aspiring singers and bands that are striving to make it in the music industry. As well as succeeding professionally, these artists are major trendsetters who inspire fashion trends, promote accessories and create certain words and catchphrases. The magazine will celebrate this too with a regular fashion page and with a feature on the biggest artists. As a magazine, Presidential will want to reward and treat its reader. The magazine will have competitions that will allow readers to compete for a chance to meet an artist of their choice. The magazine will also feature a prize. The readership will be given a free £15 iTunes voucher; allowing them to download their favourite songs from iTunes. One issue might be giving away concert or gig tickets to view the artist of the moment. The readership will also have free and unlimited access to the magazines own website, which they can use every day to keep up to date with fresh news from the world of hip-hop. The magazine will consist of the world‟s biggest hip-hop and R&B stars. The magazine will be split in two. One section will be full of the hip hop music beasts dominating the charts and embracing their success; and the other section will feature up and coming artists that are trying to make it in the music scene. Presidential magazine would like to inform the audience that underground music is just as good as mainstream music, and would like to help the target audience gain a larger music variety. The magazine will strive to encourage the reader to celebrate and embrace him or herself. Like its readers and the artists featured within it, Presidential is a unique music magazine. It‟s the only magazine that will feature both American and British artists. Mainstream artists, successful artists and underground artists. Readers will find it a fun, modern but friendly publication, which offers an honest and entertaining election of features. Presidential is sure that the target audience will enjoy reading the magazine.
  • 3. Target Audience Profile The reader of Presidential magazine would either be a male or female between the ages of 15-25 years old. The target audience are young people who are street smart, are passionate about hip-hop and music and enjoy having of a lot of fun. The target audience are a large group of people who are full of confidence and have belief in their onions and ideas; they are never afraid to speak their mind. He or she have a great appetite when it comes to having a party, they are dedicated fans and follow fashion trends and aim to look great 24 hours a day. A group of people that aren‟t insecure and use music as a way out of troublesome times they enjoy and appreciate the music being made in the hip hop genre and enjoy reading and finding out about the artists that make them. Either still in compulsory education, doing degrees in university or a graduate the reader belongs to the world of hip-hop. The target audience are comfortable financially and like to let loose whenever they have free money to spend. His younger side of the target audience may use hip-hop music to seek excitement after a long hardworking day at school, or as an escape route if feeling down. The target audience would be huge fans of the genre and feel that music is an essential part of the day, using their mp3 players or other electronic devices to play their favourite songs during journeys or times when they need company. The target audience are confident, independent individuals that enjoy sharing the glorious music with their friends, families and lovers. Nevertheless, he or she does like to indulge occasionally and loves quiet nights out with friends or family, or lazy nights in where they can enjoy young adult programmes such as „Bad Education‟, „Made in Chelsea‟ and „The Inbetweeners‟. Music is a passion to my target audience. He or she listens to music everyday without fill to the point where it accompanies her life; the songs change according to what he/she doing at the given time and also to what mood he/she is in. the target audience joy listening and watching live performances as well as listening to new artists. They enjoy visiting the most decorated nightclubs around and enjoy visiting them occasionally to have a night to remember with friends. The hip hop music beasts such as Jay-Z, Kanye West and Eminem would be on their iPods; and their clever word play, heavy punch lines, and magical flow would blow the audience away into a mystical world of hip hop. At the same time they love the feisty and feminine brilliance that female artists Beyonce, Mariah Carey

It is not only these artists‟ song writing talent that make them appealing for the target audience but also their confidence, success and uniqueness, which they find inspiring and refreshing. He reader of Presidential does not currently read any other music magazines for he/she finds that they don‟t appeal to his/her musical tastes and that they are too verbal and formal in tone. Presidential is an informal and easy read magazine that allows the target audience to escape from the real world and vision their hip-hop society. The older side of the target audience do read other magazines such as Auto Trader and Cosmo whilst the younger side may have other interests and read other magazines such as Match magazine and OK magazine. Films are another source of pleasure. The target audience enjoy viewing action movies as well comedies and horrors, which they either enjoy watching at cinemas or on a sofa with their closest friends. The reader is an active Internet user and spends many hours interacting and socialising on social networking sites, shopping or watching music videos on websites such as Vevo and YouTube. The target audience may use this magazine as a way to read about their favourite artists as well as finding out about new ones. It helps inform the target audience about up and coming gigs and concerts as well as the realising of mix tapes and albums. The magazine could be used as a way of seeking entertainment as the user will be given a quiz to test their knowledge on the genre and be given a fair opportunity o winning tickets to see an artist of their choice live.
