The document discusses classroom assessment in the K-12 program in the Philippines. It defines assessment as an ongoing process of identifying, gathering, and interpreting student learning. There are two types of assessment: formative, which occurs during instruction to inform teaching and learning, and summative, which evaluates student achievement at the end of a learning period. The K-12 program uses standards-based assessment, with grades based on student performance on summative assessments measured against learning competencies. Scores are calculated using a weighted average of scores on written work, performance tasks, and quarterly exams, with 60 as the minimum passing grade.
1. Opening Prayer
Dear Lord, we thank you for the light of
this new day and for the hope that
awakes us this morning.
Grant that we may start this day with
joy in the light of your Love.
Being the busy person that we are, our
demanding schedule has often caused
to take you for granted unintentionally.
2. But now we really want to devote to you
this time because we love you and we
need you in our lives.
Dear Lord, we offer this gathering to
you, and ask you to bless it with your
wisdom and grace.
We thank you for this opportunity to be
together to grow in our love and service
of you and of each other.
3. We ask you to enlighten our minds
to know what is true and just, and
strengthen our wills to carry out
faithfully what we come to see as
our duty.
May all our thoughts, words and
actions be directed to making your
name and your love better known
among men, for their sanctification
and their happiness here and in
eternity. Amen

11. I. THEORETICAL BASIS
A group of related ideas that provides guidance
to research project or business endeavor.
II. WHAT IS CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT?
ASSESSMENT– is a process that is used to keep
track of learners’ progress in relation to learning
standards and in the development of 21st-
century skills.
12. IS AN ONGOING PROCESS OF IDENTIFYING, GATHERING,
ORGANIZING, AND INTERPRETING QUANTITATIVE AND
QUALITATIVE INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT LEARNERS
KNOW AND CAN DO.
13. FORMATIVE SUMMATIVE
• May be given at the time
during the teaching and
learning process.
• It is also a way to check the
effectiveness of instruction
• Gives an idea that went wrong
and right
• Measures whether learners have
met the content and
performance standards.
• Recorded and used to report on
the learners’ achievement.
• To know the purpose quarterly
assessment.
• Occurs at the end of a particular
unit.
14. Aimed at helping students perform well
in relation to the learning standards.
15. A. CONTENT STANDARDS
identify and set the essential knowledge
and understanding that should be
learned.
A. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
describes the abilities and skills that
learners are expected to demonstrate.
16. C.LEARNING COMPETENCIES
refer to the knowledge, understanding,
skills and attitudes that students need
to demonstrate in every lesson/ or
learning activity.
D.CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
the learning standard in the curriculum
reflect progressions of concept
development.
17. INDIVIDUAL AND COLLABORATIVE FORMATIVE
ASSESSMENT
INDIVIDUAL FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT- Enables
the learner to demonstrate independently.
COLLABORATIVE FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT -
(peer Assessment) allows student to support each
other’s learning.
19. Measures the different ways of learners use and
apply with relevant knowledge and
understanding and skills.
Individual and collaborative summative
assessment
20. A. The written work component
B. The performance task component
C. Quarterly Assessment

22. The K-12 Basic Education Program uses a standards
and compentency- based grading system. These are
found in the curriculum guides. All grades will be based
on the weighted raw of the learners’ summative
assessments. The minimum grade needed to pass a
specific learning area is 60, which is transmuted to 75
in the report card. The lowest mark that can appear on
the report card is 60 for quarterly grades and final
grades.
23. For kindergarten – Guidelines specific to the
assessment of kindergarten learners will be issued in a
different memorandum or order.
For Grades 1 to 12 – In a grading period, there is one
quarterly assessment but there should be instances for
students to produce written work and to demonstrate
what they know and can do through performances
Tasks.
24. STEP 1: Grades from all student work are added
up. This results in the total score for each
component, namely written work, performance
tasks, and quarterly assessment.
Raw scores from each component have to be
converted to a percentage score. This is to
ensure that values are parallel to each other.
