2. INITIAL IDEAS
The music magazine I am going to create is going to have a hard rock/ rock sub-
genre, following in the styles of Guns n Roses, Aerosmith, Metallica.
Although my magazine will include articles of the greats featured
above, it will also introduce new artists following the same style of
music.
4. THE INSTITUTION/
PUBLISHING
Institutions that may be
interested in producing
my magazine would be
Bauer Media Group
(Kerrang!) or IPC Media
(NME). These
institutions focus on
magazines on similar
sub-genres, however
may be interested in
taking on a new
magazine, with a mix of
classic and new rock
artists. My magazine
5. THE TARGET
AUDIENCE. Average 60% male readers, 40% female.
. Average ages ranging from 20-30 years.
. Readers in university or full time employment.

. Buying interests: Music, merchandise, gig tickets,
piercings/tattoos, etc.

on a basic income, allowing them to spend the money on interests
like music, concert tickets, etc.
The readers of my magazine will be those who are ‘religious’ fans of
7. STYLE AND MODE OF ADDRESS OF MY
MAGAZINEThe style of my magazine will
be similar to MOJO and
HAMMER. The central image will
be placed directly in the
centre, with the masthead
above, in a large eye catching
font- reflecting the brand
identity.
Colours such as Black, red and
yellow will be used frequently
through the house style.
The mode of address will be
informal, however with some
aspects of formality
throughout the reviews and
promotions, the semantic field
is going to be linked to the rock
9. MUSIC MY MAGAZINE IS GOING
TO COVER
My magazine will cover classic, globally appealing
rock artists such as Metallica, Gun N Roses, etc,
however will introduce some new rock artists,
where there is a gap in the market. Majority of new
music is related to the indie/ pop genre, so my
magazine will differentiate from the typical
mainstream artists.
Articles will be including reflecting the early days
and success of global artists, however will introduce
new rock artists who are becoming popular,
promoting how they will appeal to the magazines
target audience.
10. IDEAS FOR MY DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
My double page spread is going to feature an article about a new rock
band discovered by Steven Tyler in America and is now planning their first
gigs in the UK. The text is going to be boxed, in a question and answer
style format.
The reason I have chosen to create my DPS based on a new artist, is
because it will appeal to the target audience. In the present day, not many
new rock bands are introduced in the music world, and if they are
included in a magazine with the likes of Bon Jovi and Guns N Roses, it will
make the target audience more intrigued.
There will be a 50/50 ratio of picture to text, with the artist on the left
hand side of the page. The photography will portray them in an informal
way and the language/ terminology included in the article will be
informal/ colloquial and slang, reflecting the sub-genre.
11. QUESTIONS…
Which name would you think would be more appealing
for the title of my magazine?
Do you think that this magazine will be successful,
differentiating from magazines in the music world today?
Why?
Do you think the language within the interviews/ articles
should be informal/ formal? Which would be more
appealing
for the target audience?
What colours should I use within the main house style of
my magazine,
reflecting the brand identity?
