Hera And Hercules
The constellation I have chosen is Cancer. I chose this constellation because it is my zodiac sign. Naturally, I found it interesting to learn about and
write an essay on my discovery and creation theory. Cancer is Latin for "Crab", The name was chosen because the representation of the the
constellation is in fact a crab. The constellation is 506 sq. degrees and made up of faint stars. The creative theory of Cancer is quite interesting actually.
According to Greek mythology, Hercules was sent to battle with a Lernaean Hydra. Hera (the queen of the gods) wanted to give Hercules a
disadvantage in battle . So, Hera's plan was to send a crab named Karkinos to distract Hercules. Hera's plan failed as Hercules kicked Karkinos with so

The Story of Echidna
Fast Facts

Pronunciation:
Origin: Greek
Home: Phrygia, Tartarus
Role: Guardian of Earth's Treasures, Mother of All Monsters
Parents: Gaia and Tartarus, or Keto and Phorkys
Spouse: Typhon
Children: Cerberus, Chimera, Colchian Dragon, Gorgon, Hydra, Ladon, Nemean Lion, Orthrus, Sphinx (Possibly also: Caucasian Eagle, Phaea, Scylla)
Who is Echidna?
Echidna is a guardian, goddess, monster, or mother of the sprits that are the alternative to the Olympians, dependent on the source. Regardless of how
one views her, as the mother of many of the creatures that Heracles was tasked with killing, her importance to the Greeks is without question.
Origin
Echidna was the daughter of either Gaia and Tartarus, or Keto and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of them were overcome or killed by them. Bellerophon killed Chimera, the three–headed monster that appears to be made of leftover bits from a
dragon, a goat, and a lion. Echidna's child the Colchian Dragon was shown more mercy, and merely lulled to slumber in Jason's effort to retrieve the
Golden Fleece that it guarded. Her half–human, half–lion daughter the Sphinx killed herself, either by throwing herself from a cliff or devouring her
own body, when Oedipus was able to answer her riddles. There is very little information on her daughter Gorgon, other than as some point she
became three daughters and not one. Regardless, Euryale, Medusa, and Stheno all shared hideous faces and hair consisting of writhing, angry,
serpents. Of the three, only Medusa was mortal, which is probably the origin of why her being a child of Echidna is sometimes questioned. It is
probably also why only her death is noted, at the hands of Perseus.
One Hero, Many Deaths
Surely the most hated hero by Echidna would be Heracles, though. In his twelve labors he bested or killed six of her children. The victim in his first
labor was the Nemean Lion, who would become the constellation Leo. His second labor brought him face to face with the Lernaean Hydra, and
again, another child of Echidna was slain. In his fourth labor, on a side portion of his quest, Hercules killed the Caucasian Eagle, who may or may not

It may have become popular because of Disney's Hercules, but the Hydra is a Greek monster to be feared. The Hydra, or Lernaean Hydra was a
giant water snake located in the swamps near Lake Lerna. Any Greek brave enough to face this monster was faced with its poisonous fumes
immediately; however, the most challenging aspect of the Hydra was its regenerating heads. Every time a head was cut off the monster two more
would grow from the stump; furthermore, one of its heads were immortal and could not die even after being cut off. Eventually, this feared creature
was locked in battle with the hero Hercules. Hercules was sent to kill the Hydra as his second labor to Eurystheus; accordingly, he cut off each head
and cauterized the stump so no more heads could grow and he buried the immortal head under a large rock. This monster had the fate of a multitude of
others and was slain by a beloved Grecian hero.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, there is no creature as horrifying as the Wendigo. This monster has been known to live in cold climate areas such as Minnesota and is often
compared to Bigfoot or Sasquatch; however, the Wendigo has a far more chilling story. According to legend the large
–clawed and thin creature lurks in
forests waiting for its prey; strangely, the creature does not kill humans, they posses a human and force the person to go into a cannibalistic rage.
Additionally, if a human partakes in the act of cannibalism the Wendigo can possess them. A more modern twist on the phenomenon is the mental
disorder "Wendigo Psychosis" which has not been proven to exist; however, some believe it happens when people with a reasonable food source feel
overcome with the need to consume human flesh. Still a myth, the Wendigo has and will continue to strike fear in the hearts of Native Americans until

1)THE NEMEAN LION
Heracles was commanded by Eurystheus to bring to him the hide of the Nemean Lion. The lion had been terrorizing the valley of Nemea. The lion was
a monstrous offspring of Echidna and one of Orthus or Typhoeus, or had plunged from the moon (Selene) to the earth.
Heracles used his bow and arrows to shoot the lion, but he noticed the arrows could not penetrate its pelt. Thereby, he attacked it with his clubs
causing the lion to run into a cave that had two entrances. Hercules blocked one entrance, he then wrestled with the lion and strangled it. Following
this, he proceeded to skin it and wrapped himself in its skin after offering a sacrifice to Zeus.
Hercules returned to Mycanae with the lion hung on his shoulder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Heracles successfully chopping off the immortal head and blocking it he dipped his arrows in its poisonous blood. Anyone wounded by these
arrows would die. Furthermore, he buried the monster's head in the road between Lerna and Elaeus and placed a big rock over it.
Despite Heracles completing this labor, Eurystheus denied to give him credit due to the fact that he was helped by Iolaus to accomplish the feat.
3)THE HIND OF CERYNEIA
On Heracles third labor he was ordered to capture the Cerynitian Hind alive. The nymph Taygette had devoted the hind to the goddess Artemis, the hind
lived in the Sanctuary of Artemis on mount Cerynea.
The hind was a deer with golden antlers and brass hoofs roaming the hills of Cerynea between Arcadia and Achaea in central Peloponnesus. Heracles
had expected to capture it unharmed because it was sacred. Heracles pursued the hind for almost a year, when he finally managed to capture the
animal on the river banks of Ladon after chasing it as far as the land of Hyperboreans.
Heracles was returning to Tiryns with the deer on his shoulders. He then met Artemis and Apollo. Artemis rebuked him but let him pass upon insistence
that the blame should be placed on Eurystheus. 4)THE ERYMANTHEAN BOAR
The fourth labor involved Heracles being ordered to capture the boar that lived on Mount Erymanthus and was ruining the land of Psophis.
Heracles first chased the boar out of its

Hercules : The Legendary Journeys
The "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" television show was one of the most highly rated television shows of its time. It began airing in January
1995 and aired until November 1999. The six season, 116 episode show also prompted several television movies and a spinoff show entitled Xena:
Warrior Princess. The first episode entitled The Wrong path opens with the show's two main characters, Hercules, played by the tall, muscular, and tan
Kevin Sorbo and Iolaus, played by the short and spunky Michael Hurst brawling with bandits robbing a bar and saving the owner and his wife from
certain death. The main traits showcased in the first scene are Hercules' strength, cunning, and intelligence and Iolaus' over–confidence. During the
fight scene, both fight off many of the bandits, but Iolaus eventually get cornered and beat up pretty badly with blood spurting form his mouth. While
this is happening Hercules is being distracted by other bandits and the shopkeeper, who is hanging by a noose with only a stool to hold him up, almost
has the stool holding him up knocked away. Quick–thinking Hercules sees a knife nearby, flicks it to his hands with his foot while fending off three
attackers and throws it at the rope holding the man up just as he is about to fall to his death. He then fights off Iolaus' attackers and all being well, the
two pals go off laughing into the night. This scene of comparing the two characters and how that will affect them later in the episode. Hercules is always

Zeus And Hera In Disney Hercules
In the movie "Disney Hercules" Zeus and Hera are Hercules' parents who love their son. Zeus is buff and has white hair and a beard. He gave
Hercules a Pegasus named Pegasus. Hera has long blond hair, pinkish skin, and a narrow face. Both Zeus and Hera love Hercules and protected him
from Hades who came as an unexpected guest to Hercules' birth. In the myth, Zeus is a cheating father and loves some of his children alone, barely of
them. He is consistently getting into trouble with Hera, is jealous wife. Hera was jealous when Zeus had another child, so she sent two snakes to kill
Hercules, but Hercules killed them both. Hera is a jealous wife, and she is not a loving mother. The movie did not do a good job of portraying the
gods and goddesses because Hera is not the mother of Hercules, she was the one who sent the two snakes to kill Hercules, and she is jealous of
Zeus' wives. Zeus was not portrayed well either because he doesn't have Hercules with Hera but with another woman. When Hercules was born, he
was born mortal, but with strength. This information decides if the movie did a good job making it similar. It tells that Zeus really did have a son
Hercules, but Hera isn't related to him in the myth and movie, just Zeus is.

Use Of Anthropomorphism In Greek Mythology
I.Biography Greek mythology had an extensive use of anthropomorphism (anthro.) and mythical creatures that were considered symbolic. Such as
the three headed dog, who has been believed to be the guardian of the realm of death, or hades, Cerberus. It was said that he would prevent those
who crossed The River of Death (Styx). The River of Death or Styx was supposed to be the boundary between Earth and the Underworld; it was so
long that the Underworld was encircled nine times. Cerberus' parents were half–women–half–serpent, Echidna, and the fire–breathing giant, Typhoon.
He had a two headed hell hound brother, Orthrus, and was said to be the siblings of the Nemean Lion, Lernaean Hydra, and the Chimaera. Cerberus

Heracles 12 Labor
Heracles and his twelve labors to becoming an immortal resembles my life endeavors in competing and learning the martial arts form of mainly
Kenpo and various others. His twelve labors leading to his immortality signifies his pathway to becoming an immortal. Like my years of training and
competing in Kenpo to become a better and disciplined man. These situations are tales of becoming a better individual going through labors that
breaks down and changes a person for the best. It all started from who we were born from. Heracles, son of the great Zeus, was destined to be born with
un–naturalistic talents. Such as strength and dexterity, shown when he was a baby and Hera sent the two snakes to kill Heracles. Heracles grabbed these

father gave me advice; instead of warming up my moves in front of the other fighters, I should stretch and watch the others warm up their moves so
I know what they will do in the fight. At the start of my first fight, I was slightly scared of my opponent. With the help of my father, he said to me,
"What I want you to do is hold your stance and take your right hand to throw a right cross punch to his face." That's exactly what I did. Once I threw
this punch, all my fear went away and I saw the intimidation in my opponent. I saw this and used it to my advantage and beat my

Hercules: A Mythological Greek Hero
There is an old saying that states ?Things get better through time?. However I must disagree, especially when Hollywood has anything to due with
it. Hercules has been a very popular mythological Greek hero. He was a man with powers similar to that of the gods. He had unmatched strength
and unquestionable endurance for life. In short he was the ideal image for masculinity. His tales and stories were worshipped and loved during the
ancient Greek times and still survive in our day and age. However the depiction of Hercules has changed as time has passed, from his original
legends, to what is depicted in movies. As most people know, Hollywood loves to add the twists and turns to any great story whether fictional or
nonfictional. In some cases this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie had the effects to make us relate more with modern times. It was written more or less like a comic about a superhero?s. As stated
previously it was unclear if Hercules was actually the son of Zeus. He was a man of great strength and determination. His stories were exaggerated
adorations of his adventures. In todays society people always want to be remembered as great nations and superb leaders of technology and
means of living. This could be why the film directors depicted Hercules as the idea that anyone could be as great and powerful as he was. This is
not a literal since but by the means of how our stories will be told for the future generations. Also the movie depicted Hercules to be a mercenary.
This relates to the modern saying that ?nothing in this world is free?. In ancient times people used means of currency but a common method of
payment was the barter system and the rights to have honorable names. Even though this system still exists, our method for working is the right to
payment by currency. As you watch the movie the mercenary?s all played vital roles. The first was the shaman spear master. This character had the
ability to see into the future by means of herbs. His colleges depicted him as being a man who was always high. It was unclear if he could actually
see into the future or if he was actually high. This is because some of his predictions

Labors of Hercules
Disney is well known for their animated hero movies and my personal favorite movie is Hercules. Hercules is well known Demi– amongst the Greek
Mythology Stories. In the Disney movie Hercules was said to be Zeus and Hera son. When he was born he was kidnapped by Pain and Panic. They
were sent by Hades who was afraid that Hercules would save his father and become a Hero and once again Hades would lose power. Pain and
Panic was told to give Hercules a poison that would turn him mortal and kill home once he was murdered. The plan had fail once Hercules adopted
parents arrived and Hercules ended up scarring Pain and Panic away. In the ordinary world Hercules doesn't fit in. He is too strong and the others
around him believed that's what made him weird. One day Hercules attempted to play frisbee with the other teens and while running he tripped and
ran into a building and destroyed the city. Hercules felt like a disappointment. Hercules adopted father felt bad,so he agreed with his to reveal
Hercules true identity to himself. When he Hercules found out he was adopted he set out on adventure to find out who he was. He traveled through
the city and wound up at the Temple of Gods. He prayed the the statues and was approached by Zeus statue. Zeus statue told him he was a God, but
could no longer live on Olympus due to him being mortal. The only way Hercules could become human again is by

The And The Greek Mythology
Introduction.
Heracles is the significant and most prominent of all the Greek heroes in mythology. Heracles is known for his muscularity, and recognized by his
lion skin, club, and shaggy beard. He is very much acknowledged in today's modern society and his myth was remade into a Disney film called
Hercules. "Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker" and released in 1997", this film has similarities to the Greek legend itself, however there are
significant differences to the myth as well.
The Greek myth.
In the original myth it started when Zeus faked a war so that Amphitryon (the king) would go off and fight. He then visited the kings loving wife
Alcmene and took advantage of his "absence." He disguised as the king himself and slept with Alcmene. As a resultHeracles was conceived. Hera,
Zeus' wife and the queen of gods however had a special hatred towards Heracles as he reminded her of her husband Zeus ' cheating, ways. There
are many myth in which explain some of the cruel thing Hera did to Heracles out of hatred, supposedly she sent two snakes to assassinate Heracles
while he was in his cot, but Heracles being so strong ended up strangling the snakes. During his youth he was sent to a mountain to look after cattles
after he killed his music teacher Linus with a lyre. This was because Linus struck him as he was supposedly a slow learner. However Heracles was
unaware of his own strength. Heracles 1st wife was Megara, whom he had several children with. Hera then caused

Zeus went to visit Alcmene disguised as Amphitryon. Assuming Zeus to be Amphitryon, Alcmene let him come into her house. After extending one
night into three, Zeus lay with Alcmene. When Amphitryon had returned home the very next day, and learned from the blind Oracle, Tiresias, that
Alcmene had slept with Zeus and would give birth to a great hero, Hercules. That very night Amphitryon slept with Alcmene, and she became
pregnant by him as well. Alcmene later gave birth to two children. One Iphicles, the offspring of Amphitryon and Hercules, the offspring of Zeus.
Right after Hercules' birth, Alcmene, his mother, took him to a forest outside of the city of Thebes and deserted him, because she was afraid of
Hera's jealousy. However, Athena, the goddess of wisdom and patron of most heroes, saw him from Olympus and advised Hera that they go take walk

The Depiction Of A Hero In Captain America

when all of a sudden something goes south extremely quickly.A villain appears and starts terrorizing the town, and it seems that no one can save the

may be all hero movies follow the same theme. What really changes is the way that said hero is built up through the cinematography of the movie. That
is where the true differences can be made, but the depiction of one hero in particular remains constant. That hero being Captain America. The first box

The Father Of Perseus
1. Where does the hero originate? What of his ancestry is significant? Consider in what way it is significant. While Heracles is the son of the
immortal Zeus, his mother is the mortal Alcmena, the daughter of Electryon and granddaughter of the hero Perseus. As a result, Heracles' lineage is
tied to a vast tree of important Greek figures. In particular, these figures included the divine founder of Mycenae, the former kings of Mycenae and
Argos, and even the predecessor of the Persian race.
2. Who were his parents? What is the story of his birth? Write a couple sentences about the significance of this birth (if relevant). The birth of Heracles'
begins with his mortal mother, Alcmena, who refused to have any sexual relations with her husband Amphitryon until he was to avenge the deaths of
her brothers by embarking on a campaign against the pirates that killed them. Zeus, who had noticed Alcmena's beauty, took advantage of this
opportunity and disguised himself as Amphitryon and brought proof of victory against the pirates. Thinking the god was her husband, Alcmena kept
her promise and slept with Zeus. Shortly after, Zeus vanished before the real Amphitryon arrived after his victory against the pirates. Despite her
confusion, Alcmena slept with Amphitryon and gave birth to a pair of twins, Amphitryon's son Iphicles, and Zeus' son Heracles. As a demigod,
Heracles was destined to be a great hero; however, he was subject to his mother's mortality.

Oedipus The King: The Twelve Labors Of Hercules
As a young man, Hercules was sent off to fight against the Minyans, a group of people who forced Thebes to pay tribute to them. Hercules defeated
the Minyans and made his way back to Thebes, where the king gave him Princess Megara's hand in marriage. Soon after their marriage, Hercules and
Megara had three boys. Hera, on the other hand, still hated Hercules. As a result of this hatred, she put him in a state of uncontrollable madness. This
then made Hercules unwillingly kill his wife and children. After the murder of his own family, he came to his senses. Realizing what he had done,
Hercules sought punishment for his egregious actions. His immediate response was to kill himself, but before he could do so Theseus stepped in. He

These tasks were considered to be impossible; as such the next many years of Hercules' life would consist of many triumphs and many sufferings.
The Twelve Labors of Hercules were: slaying the Nemean lion, killing the Lernaean Hydra, capture of the Arcadian stag, capture of the
Erymanthian boar, cleaning of the Augean stables, slaying of the carnivorous Stymphalian birds, capture of the meat eating mares of Diomedes,
stealing of the girdle of Hippolyta, killing the monster Geryon and the capture of his flocks, steal apples from the gardens of Hesperides, and the
retrieval of Cerberus from the underworld. Though many of Hercules' triumphs are spoken of, his most famous consist of his first two. His first
task was to slay the Nemean lion, which could not be killed by any sort of weapon. Understanding this, Hercules choked the lion to death and used its
corpse as a cloak. For his second labor, Hercules was sent to Lerna to slay the Hydra residing there. The Hydra was a snake–like monster with nine
heads, one of which was immortal. This proved difficult for Hercules at first, due to the Hydra's regenerating heads. To take care of this, Hercules
seared each severed head with a brand. As for the immortal head, he buried it beneath a boulder. Many other adventures ensued after his twelve

Summary Of Hercules 12 Labors
The 12 Labors of Hercules
Hercules was assigned 12 Labors by Eurystheus to prove that he was the son of the God Zeus. Alcmene, Hercules' mother, was a mortal as was
Hercules ("Hercules and His Twelve Labors"). He exemplified heroism and bravery, envied by his own cousin Eurystheus and his father's wife Juno.
That is why Hercules was given the 12 labors.
Juno who is most hostile to children , sends two snakes to kill young Hercules while he slept in his crib. Instead of screaming, Hercules strangles the
two serpents playfully, thinking they were toys (Genovese). As he grows older more of his strength starts to show and he starts to achieve more goals
such as killing a lion single handedly and partaking in the war. This soon resulted in envy from Juno and Eurystheus. Juno reports this to Eurystheus,
and demand that he give Hercules the 12 Labors. Juno makes him give Hercules these task, because he thinks that one will kill ... Show more content on

This labor is where Juno sends a lion to a town to eat the people of Nemea. Hercules can't use his bow to kill the lion because his bow is not narrow
enough to pierce the lion's thick furry skin . So Hercules single handedly killed the lion and wore his skin as a symbol of protection.
The second Labor given was the "Lernaean Hydra". The Lernaean Hydra was a creature who lived in a swamp with odors so strong that it killed
anyone or anything that dared to smell it . Therefore , Hercules slices his head but for every head he cut off two more appeared . He soon got a
flaming brand from a friend and burns each stump after each head was served off. After each head he cuts off he finally comes to the 9th head and he
cuts it off and buried it under a rock.
The 3rd Labor was "The Hind of Ceryneia " , that is where Hercules captures the Erymanthian boar and brings it back on his shoulders. Eurystheus was

Summary Of ' Sudden Shortage Of People '
People Gone Missing
I pick up my daily newspaper from the mail, and begin reading. It's titled "Sudden Shortage of People". "What's going on?" I think. My next door
neighbor Amethyst (she's 16 and I'm 14), is hanging up her Christmas decorations. I smile, wave, and say "Looks good!" as I walk up my front
steps. "Thanks, Lily!" she replies with a wide smile. Something about that smile makes me flinch for a moment. I think there's a quick glow of red in
her eyes... Whatever, I'm probably just seeing things or something. "Nobody's eyes glow red," I think to myself so I just shrug and let it slide.
I pause momentarily and notice that her Christmas decorations looked oddly familiar. That's it! They look exactly like my own; I just haven't found...

I decide to run for it, soon after spotting a huge robot army following me. They all evacuate the basement, charging after me. I always thought
something about her was mysterious. I guess now I finally get to find out. "What the heckle speckle?!" I shout and I try to dodge the lasers the robots
are shooting at me, but it's quite difficult. My vision is blurred with every possible color of the rainbow spectrum. "Too... Bright..." I manage to
mumble before I scurry away like a ferret.
"GET HER, NOW!" Amethyst commands her robots. "Especially you, Robert the robot!" she screeches.
I run off into the wilderness, keeping hold of my Christmas decorations. There's a forest near my house, and I quickly run outside of the trail. My
daily walks have finally paid off. I knew this forest by heart.
"Where's Lily?!" Amethyst scowls in frustration. "We had her just a minute ago!" However, her voice sounds very distant. I think I've lost her.
Just to be safe and confirm she won't come back for me, I continue running. I happen to come across a warrior sword. It's faintly glowing blue, and it's
stuck in a tree trunk. I notice a flamethrower resting on the ground by my feet, and I pick them both up in relief. I deflate my Christmas decorations and
shove them in my bag. Then, I continue running.
There was a strange sound up above, so I turn around in curiosity. What the heckle speckle?! Right behind me was Amethyst and Robert the Robot with

Hercules In Greek Mythology
In greek mythology, it is mentioned in one of the vast tales of a serpent bearing nine heads. This serpent is known as the Lernean Hydra. Getting its
name for ravaging the country of Lernae near Argos, it dwelt in a swamp near a well called the well of Amymone. The hydra had nine heads. One
head, the center one, was immortal, which means to live forever. The other heads, however, if chopped off would regrow two more from each head
cut. On top of that its venom was very deadly. Being exposed to it would bring certain death to its victims. Its venom flowed through its blood as well.
I personally think the hydra is one of the most interesting creatures from greek mythology.
I think I will start off with the Lernaean Hydra's regrowth abilities. There is a classic greek mythological tale of the greek hero Hercules being sent
to kill the hydra in a great battle. When he confronted the beast, the battle began fiercely. Hercules successfully severed some of the hydra's heads, but
soon learnt that they regrew doubled. Before he knew it, the tale says, Hercules was overwhelmed and had to call support from a nephew of his. If one
is not careful, the hydra will overwhelm them quickly with its regrowth. After two new heads grow, they too can in turn be cut and turn into yet another

This made the hydra a far more dangerous adversary than a regular serpent. When people would come across the hydra they would have probably
taken one glance and ran. Many travelers said that the hydra had a lot more heads than nine. But that was just exaggeration. "One hundred snakes as in
Simonides, as we said above [i.e. Simonides' fifty–headed Hydra]; others say there were nine." When Hercules faced the beast, he was at first
overwhelmed by just the first nine. Then of course he called his nephew for assistance when more heads began to

Hercules : A Hero Of Hercules, A Greek-Roman Hero
Hercules is a well known Greek/Roman hero. He is a great hero and the son of the great god Zeus. But, like all prominent heroes, he had enemies.
His most hated enemy is no other than Zeus' wife, Hera. Because of the goddess Hera, he is known for one of his greatest qualities, bravery. Even
though Hercules' life was dark, he was the most powerful and famous hero in all of the Greek mythology. Hercules' origin began when Zeus lay
with Alkmene. But, before that Zeus had a desire for Alcmene. One day while Amphitryon, Alcmene's husband, was away, Zeus went to visit
Alcmene disguised as Amphitryon. Right after Hercules' birth, Alcmene, his mother, took him to a forest outside of the city of Thebes and
deserted him, because she was afraid of what Hera would do with Hercules. "However, Athena, the patron of most heroes, saw him from Olympus
and advised Hera that they should go take a walk on Earth(Gagarin). They came to where the baby lay, hungry and crying, and Athena said to Hera,
'I can't do anything to help this baby, but you're one of those mother goddesses(Gagarin). Why don't you feed him(Gagarin)?' Hera, not knowing it
was Hercules, began to nurse him at her breast, but Hercules sucked so hard that it hurt her(Gagarin). Hera pushed him away, and the force of her
rejection (and of his sucking) was so great that milk flew from his mouth and her breast up into the sky(Gagarin)". Later on, when Hercules was
sleeping in his crib Hera sent two snakes to kill Hercules. When Alcmene saw Hercules, he had two dead snakes in his hand. When he was older he
was taught by great people. "Eurytos, the world's best archer, taught him archery, Autolykos taught him wrestling, Kastor taught him the use of
weapons, and Linos, the brother of Orpheus, gave him music lessons(Gagarin)". Later on, Thebes had been commandeered by Minyans. Hercules led
a rebellion to force out the Minyans and give the kingdom back to King Creon. In gratefulness and recognition, he gave his daughter, Megara, as his
wife. "Megara and Hercules had three sons: Thirimachos, Deicoon, and Creontiades"(Cartwright). When Hercules and his family were happy he was
driven into madness by Hera. He killed his wife and three children. When he realized what he

Analysis Of Captain America The Winter Soldier
Ethics are the standards set by a specific institution that provides clear guidelines for acceptable behaviors. James Svara outlines 4 dimensions of
ethics as duty, virtue, principles and benefit to society. Each of these dimensions are standard of exceptional public service. At the core of all ethics in
bureaucracy is the commitment to provide the greatest good for the greatest number. Moreover, Public Administrators are responsible for countless
tasks to ensure that all recipients of a bureaucratic service are treated objectively. Unfortunately, not all Public Administrators illustrate exemplary
behaviors conducive to incomparable public service. Theoretical considerations are best used to observe human nature and public administration ...

Captain America failed to apprehend The Winter Soldier despite the chaos he caused to the Public due to the fact that they knew each other personally.
This conflict of interest between the Public and Captain America is known as an information asymmetry as Captain America failed to disclose that his
enemy during the movie was once his friend. The Public is at a disadvantage in this instance as they are not fully disclosed on all of the details
concerning their protection moving forward while the immediate safety of The Winter Soldier was granted by Captain America. Consequently, Captain
America exemplified both exceptional and questionable ethical practice in his duty as a public administrator. Likewise, Nick Fury was a public
administrator that also exhibited outstanding public service and unethical decision making as well.
Nick Fury was the immediate supervisor that delegated tasks to the Agents within S.H.I.E.L.D. Furthermore, Nick Fury advocated that S.H.I.E.L.D
takes the world for what it is, not as they would like for it to be. Mobilization of the armed forces was one of the capabilities Nick Fury relished as he
able to obtain fighter jets and automobiles that were primed for action should volatile situations ignite. Agency Theory suggests that the armament of

When Hercules and his family were happy, Hera drove Hercules into insanity. He killed Megara and his three sons. When Hercules realized what he
did, he wanted to kill himself. Yet his cousin persuaded him to atone for his sins. He visited the Oracle at Delphi. He was told to serve his cousin,
King Eurystheus.
Hera, his most hated enemy, caused most of the things that have gone wrong in Hercules life. When Hera found out that Zeus had broken his vow by
laying with another woman she tried to stop Hercules from being born. She sent the goddess of birth, Ilithyia to sit cross–legged to stop Hercules' birth.
The article Heracles says that Ilithyia would have killed Heracles if Alcmene's servant had not fooled Ilithyia, who mislead Ilithyia by saying that
Alcmene had given birth to Hercules. The article also says that "Upon hearing this, she jumped in surprise, untying the knots and inadvertently
allowing Alcmene to give birth to her twins, Heracles and Iphicles". Then Hera sped up the birth of Eurystheus to allow him to become the sole
ruler of the vast empire Hercules was meant to rule. She then sent two great snakes to kill Hercules, but having Zeus' great strength he killed the two
snakes. Hercules went on to marry Megara and had three sons. Cartwright says that Hera once again disrupted Hercules life and drove him insane so
he killed Megara and his three sons. Hera then guided the oracle to

Greek Mythology: The Two Different Types Of Greek Gods
Ancient Greeks came up with their own answers on things that happen in the world later on we began to call them myths. There are 2 different
types of myths but there are many different myth stories. The 2 different myths are called creation myths and explanatory myths. Besides myths
there are Greek gods and Goddesses. There are 3 different categories of Greek gods; they're called Olympian gods, Titans, and gods that aren't
labeled. The most used myth category is creation myths. Inside myths there are mythical figures, mortals, heroes, elements, gigantes, creates,
monsters, and places. A Chimaera was a Greek myth monster. It was the child of Typhoeus and Echidna and the sibling to Cerberus and Lernaean
Hydra. The Chimaera has the head and body of a lion, head of a goat, and a tail that was a snake. The Chimaera was killed by Bellerophon. Mount

Monsters of Greco-Roman Myth Essay
Monsters of Greco–Roman Myth To have a hero there must be a monster to vanquish. Monsters in Greco–Roman mythology are often portrayed as:
irrational, nearly impossible to communicate with, often a compound of animal parts or some form of mutation, and are set upon human destruction.
"Monsters in the language of mythology were beings of unnatural proportions or parts, usually regarded with terror, as possessing immense strength and
ferocity, which they employed for the injury and annoyance of men" (Bullfinch Pg. 143). Mythological monsters are a way for man to explain what he
doesn't understand. They are an attempt to explain 'why' to things such as: storms, droughts and other unseasonable weather, unexplained deaths, birth...

From Babylon, Marduk, Ea made Marduk a double god so that he would surpass all the other gods in form and in strength. Four sparkling eyes shone
forth from Marduk's face, enabling him to see everything, and four large ears extended outward, enabling him to hear everything. Whenever Marduk
moved his lips, fire blazed fourth from his mouth" (Rosenberg 7). For Eastern cultures multiple body parts such as eyes and limbs was something to be
worshiped. Greco–Roman culture turned these attributes into mutations. Having excessive or less than a normal amount of body parts was a
deformity, something to be feared and loathed. Egyptian gods such as Horus and Anubis had an appearance part human and part animal. For the
Greeks it appears they were transformed into fearsome beasts such as the Minotaur, "[...] the Minotaur, a monster with a bull's body and a human head.
It was exceedingly strong and fierce and was kept in a labyrinth constructed by Daedalus, so artfully contrived that whoever was enclosed in it could by
no means find his way out unassisted. Here the Minotaur roamed, and was fed with human victims" (Bullfinch 181). The Babylonians took the
Sumerian's nurturing mother goddess, Tiamat, "Mother Tiamat personified and ruled the salt waters" (Rosenberg 6) and turned her into an irrational
and enraged creature and Marduk vanquished her. Similarly the

Characteristics of a Classical Hero Demonstrated in The...
"The Labours of Hercules" introduces the most famous Greek hero in mythology, Hercules. He completes twelve immense tasks at an early age for
killing his family while under a curse from Hera. The story of his labours contains many reasons why Hercules is classified as a classical hero.
Hercules exhibits many of the traits of a classical hero, including numerous guides, hazardous journeys and several hardships and afflictions.
Hercules demonstrates one trait of a classical hero by asking for or accepting assistance from other characters throughout the story. Two of his most
obvious moments of assistance were when he asks the King of Thebes for his twelve tasks and when he needs help during the search for one of Hera's
treasures. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hercules demonstrates a second characteristic when he embarks on his twelve incredibly dangerous labours. By completing these tasks, Hercules
would be forgiven for the killing of his family while under Hera's spell. An instance of one of these tasks is when he must destroy Hydra, a creature
with many heads, one of which is immortal. He fulfills this task by cutting off most of its heads and then laying its immortal head under a rock for
eternity. On another labour Hercules is sent to retrieve Cerberus (the three headed dog of Hades) and bring him to the King then, return it to the post at
the entrance to the underworld. These and many other of Hercules immense tasks therefore display a vital quality of a hero in classical mythology.
A third trait of a classical hero is demonstrated when Hercules experiences many afflictions and misfortunes during his journeys. Ever since Hera's
husband Zeus had an affair and gave life to Hercules, she has hated him and is responsible for most of his afflictions. One of these afflictions is when
Hera drove Hercules mad and made him kill his wife and family. Another example of his misfortunes is when Hera sent two very dangerous snakes
after him when he was only eight months old; luckily Hercules was incredibly strong and defeated the deadly snakes. The tremendous amount of
hardships along his quest therefore reflects a third heroic quality in Hercules.

Was Heracles Really A Hero
Was Heracles really a hero for Ancient Greeks? What did he do that was so heroic? There are many different opinions on this question. Some people
believe that it was because of his heroic acts against monsters, and death. Some also believe that it was his locally heroic deeds within the civilization.
Finally, some people believe that some of his acts were not heroic. Such as some of the violent acts that he has committed against some of the citizens.
Stephanie Budin, and Emma Stafford, have both expressed their opinions of how Heracles was a hero to the ancient Greeks. Heracles was a hero to the
ancient Greeks because he defeated monsters such as the Lernaenan Hydra, and the Nemean Lion. He rescued Theseus and his wife from the

They both agreed on how he had his heroic parts, and his non–heroic parts. His heroic parts were that "As part of his Twelve Labors, Heracles killed
monstrous creatures (the Nemean lion, the Hydra, and the Stymphalian birds) and captured dangerous animals (the Erymanthian boar, the Cretan bull,
and man–eating horses). He even brought the hound Cerberus up from the underworld in a symbolic conquest of death itself (abcclio.com)." His
non–heroic deeds were that "Heracles committed many outrages against relatives, friends, and innocent strangers when he was unable to control his
passions, and he was also prone to gluttony and other excesses that were not considered admirable in Greek society (abcclio.com)." In Stephanie
Budin's article she wrote about how he struggled keeping his emotions stable. She talked about how he sometimes had outrages, and went very
violent towards people. She also talks about his heroic deeds as well. Emma Stafford, on the other hand, talks about how the story of Heracles
developed over time and how his heroism has also changed over time. In conclusion, even though Stephanie Budin and Emma Stafford had different
viewpoints on why Heracles was a hero, they still agree that he was a heroic person for Ancient

Essay on Two Truths and a Lie; Elphis Pradis
Elpis Pradis was wanted in almost every country. Except Russia. Elpis didn't know why, all she knew is Russians were just plain weird like that. All
the other countries had posters hung everywhere, saying "Wanted: Elpis Praidis." In large, bold, print. She felt like a freaking celebrity with all this
attention. Elpis had perfectly good reasons for doing what she did. She had no choice sometimes. Others, she did, but crime seemed like the
reasonable choice. Elpis's current excuse was that she was trying to stay alive and save her friend, Juliane. The smartest, and richest teen in the world
was known as Juliane Zenaide Nathalie Dufour. Her enemy, which she would dare not speak their names, had kidnapped her and taken Juliane... Show

Elpis found nothing. "Raven...raven." It seemed like it meant a bird. But she realized it could mean color also. She did many detailed searches. Not
many had answers, the ones that did seemed too obvious, a trap. She realized that Maryland wanted to make the Raven their state bird. She had only
skimmed over the article, but she didn't need much. Her quest wasn't about for sure–ness and credible sources. Her quest was about life and death. She
pulled up a picture of a map. Virgina! She needed to go somewhere in Virginia. Down the hall meant going south...easy. Raven's Road meant
Maryland. Elpis had no choice but to go to sleep. She didn't like the idea of sleep, considering she was on the run, and her cover could be blown at
any second. But even on top of that, an uncountable amount of people were out to kill her. In the morning, she checkout and ran. She got a new fake
ID, new disguise and hopped on the next boat to North Carolina. She knew that people were expecting her both in Virginia and Maryland, but she
decided to roll the dice and see if they were dumb enough to be in the state below Virginia. She had no idea why she was on a boat. Elpis was just
different like that. When she got to North Carolina, she waited until the next day at night to ride a train to Virginia. If they knew she was here, they
would probably expect her to take the soonest train– to get to her friend faster. The train ride was pretty dead,

Hera And Hercules

  • 1. Hera And Hercules The constellation I have chosen is Cancer. I chose this constellation because it is my zodiac sign. Naturally, I found it interesting to learn about and write an essay on my discovery and creation theory. Cancer is Latin for "Crab", The name was chosen because the representation of the the constellation is in fact a crab. The constellation is 506 sq. degrees and made up of faint stars. The creative theory of Cancer is quite interesting actually. According to Greek mythology, Hercules was sent to battle with a Lernaean Hydra. Hera (the queen of the gods) wanted to give Hercules a disadvantage in battle . So, Hera's plan was to send a crab named Karkinos to distract Hercules. Hera's plan failed as Hercules kicked Karkinos with so much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Story Of Echidna. Fast Facts
. Pronunciation: . Origin: The Story of Echidna Fast Facts
Pronunciation: Origin: Greek Home: Phrygia, Tartarus Role: Guardian of Earth's Treasures, Mother of All Monsters Parents: Gaia and Tartarus, or Keto and Phorkys Spouse: Typhon Children: Cerberus, Chimera, Colchian Dragon, Gorgon, Hydra, Ladon, Nemean Lion, Orthrus, Sphinx (Possibly also: Caucasian Eagle, Phaea, Scylla) Who is Echidna? Echidna is a guardian, goddess, monster, or mother of the sprits that are the alternative to the Olympians, dependent on the source. Regardless of how one views her, as the mother of many of the creatures that Heracles was tasked with killing, her importance to the Greeks is without question. Origin Echidna was the daughter of either Gaia and Tartarus, or Keto and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of them were overcome or killed by them. Bellerophon killed Chimera, the three–headed monster that appears to be made of leftover bits from a dragon, a goat, and a lion. Echidna's child the Colchian Dragon was shown more mercy, and merely lulled to slumber in Jason's effort to retrieve the Golden Fleece that it guarded. Her half–human, half–lion daughter the Sphinx killed herself, either by throwing herself from a cliff or devouring her own body, when Oedipus was able to answer her riddles. There is very little information on her daughter Gorgon, other than as some point she became three daughters and not one. Regardless, Euryale, Medusa, and Stheno all shared hideous faces and hair consisting of writhing, angry, serpents. Of the three, only Medusa was mortal, which is probably the origin of why her being a child of Echidna is sometimes questioned. It is probably also why only her death is noted, at the hands of Perseus.
  • 3. One Hero, Many Deaths Surely the most hated hero by Echidna would be Heracles, though. In his twelve labors he bested or killed six of her children. The victim in his first labor was the Nemean Lion, who would become the constellation Leo. His second labor brought him face to face with the Lernaean Hydra, and again, another child of Echidna was slain. In his fourth labor, on a side portion of his quest, Hercules killed the Caucasian Eagle, who may or may not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Hydra Research Paper It may have become popular because of Disney's Hercules, but the Hydra is a Greek monster to be feared. The Hydra, or Lernaean Hydra was a giant water snake located in the swamps near Lake Lerna. Any Greek brave enough to face this monster was faced with its poisonous fumes immediately; however, the most challenging aspect of the Hydra was its regenerating heads. Every time a head was cut off the monster two more would grow from the stump; furthermore, one of its heads were immortal and could not die even after being cut off. Eventually, this feared creature was locked in battle with the hero Hercules. Hercules was sent to kill the Hydra as his second labor to Eurystheus; accordingly, he cut off each head and cauterized the stump so no more heads could grow and he buried the immortal head under a large rock. This monster had the fate of a multitude of others and was slain by a beloved Grecian hero.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, there is no creature as horrifying as the Wendigo. This monster has been known to live in cold climate areas such as Minnesota and is often compared to Bigfoot or Sasquatch; however, the Wendigo has a far more chilling story. According to legend the large –clawed and thin creature lurks in forests waiting for its prey; strangely, the creature does not kill humans, they posses a human and force the person to go into a cannibalistic rage. Additionally, if a human partakes in the act of cannibalism the Wendigo can possess them. A more modern twist on the phenomenon is the mental disorder "Wendigo Psychosis" which has not been proven to exist; however, some believe it happens when people with a reasonable food source feel overcome with the need to consume human flesh. Still a myth, the Wendigo has and will continue to strike fear in the hearts of Native Americans until it has been proven to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Paragraphs on THe Nemean Lion, Hydra, Ceryneia and... 1)THE NEMEAN LION Heracles was commanded by Eurystheus to bring to him the hide of the Nemean Lion. The lion had been terrorizing the valley of Nemea. The lion was a monstrous offspring of Echidna and one of Orthus or Typhoeus, or had plunged from the moon (Selene) to the earth. Heracles used his bow and arrows to shoot the lion, but he noticed the arrows could not penetrate its pelt. Thereby, he attacked it with his clubs causing the lion to run into a cave that had two entrances. Hercules blocked one entrance, he then wrestled with the lion and strangled it. Following this, he proceeded to skin it and wrapped himself in its skin after offering a sacrifice to Zeus. Hercules returned to Mycanae with the lion hung on his shoulder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Heracles successfully chopping off the immortal head and blocking it he dipped his arrows in its poisonous blood. Anyone wounded by these arrows would die. Furthermore, he buried the monster's head in the road between Lerna and Elaeus and placed a big rock over it. Despite Heracles completing this labor, Eurystheus denied to give him credit due to the fact that he was helped by Iolaus to accomplish the feat. 3)THE HIND OF CERYNEIA On Heracles third labor he was ordered to capture the Cerynitian Hind alive. The nymph Taygette had devoted the hind to the goddess Artemis, the hind lived in the Sanctuary of Artemis on mount Cerynea. The hind was a deer with golden antlers and brass hoofs roaming the hills of Cerynea between Arcadia and Achaea in central Peloponnesus. Heracles had expected to capture it unharmed because it was sacred. Heracles pursued the hind for almost a year, when he finally managed to capture the animal on the river banks of Ladon after chasing it as far as the land of Hyperboreans. Heracles was returning to Tiryns with the deer on his shoulders. He then met Artemis and Apollo. Artemis rebuked him but let him pass upon insistence that the blame should be placed on Eurystheus. 4)THE ERYMANTHEAN BOAR The fourth labor involved Heracles being ordered to capture the boar that lived on Mount Erymanthus and was ruining the land of Psophis. • 6. Hercules : The Legendary Journeys The "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" television show was one of the most highly rated television shows of its time. It began airing in January 1995 and aired until November 1999. The six season, 116 episode show also prompted several television movies and a spinoff show entitled Xena: Warrior Princess. The first episode entitled The Wrong path opens with the show's two main characters, Hercules, played by the tall, muscular, and tan Kevin Sorbo and Iolaus, played by the short and spunky Michael Hurst brawling with bandits robbing a bar and saving the owner and his wife from certain death. The main traits showcased in the first scene are Hercules' strength, cunning, and intelligence and Iolaus' over–confidence. During the fight scene, both fight off many of the bandits, but Iolaus eventually get cornered and beat up pretty badly with blood spurting form his mouth. While this is happening Hercules is being distracted by other bandits and the shopkeeper, who is hanging by a noose with only a stool to hold him up, almost has the stool holding him up knocked away. Quick–thinking Hercules sees a knife nearby, flicks it to his hands with his foot while fending off three attackers and throws it at the rope holding the man up just as he is about to fall to his death. He then fights off Iolaus' attackers and all being well, the two pals go off laughing into the night. This scene of comparing the two characters and how that will affect them later in the episode. • 7. Zeus And Hera In Disney Hercules In the movie "Disney Hercules" Zeus and Hera are Hercules' parents who love their son. Zeus is buff and has white hair and a beard. He gave Hercules a Pegasus named Pegasus. Hera has long blond hair, pinkish skin, and a narrow face. Both Zeus and Hera love Hercules and protected him from Hades who came as an unexpected guest to Hercules' birth. In the myth, Zeus is a cheating father and loves some of his children alone, barely of them. He is consistently getting into trouble with Hera, is jealous wife. Hera was jealous when Zeus had another child, so she sent two snakes to kill Hercules, but Hercules killed them both. Hera is a jealous wife, and she is not a loving mother. The movie did not do a good job of portraying the gods and goddesses because Hera is not the mother of Hercules, she was the one who sent the two snakes to kill Hercules, and she is jealous of Zeus' wives. Zeus was not portrayed well either because he doesn't have Hercules with Hera but with another woman. When Hercules was born, he was born mortal, but with strength. This information decides if the movie did a good job making it similar. It tells that Zeus really did have a son Hercules, but Hera isn't related to him in the myth and movie, just Zeus is. • 8. Use Of Anthropomorphism In Greek Mythology I.Biography Greek mythology had an extensive use of anthropomorphism (anthro.) and mythical creatures that were considered symbolic. Such as the three headed dog, who has been believed to be the guardian of the realm of death, or hades, Cerberus. It was said that he would prevent those who crossed The River of Death (Styx). The River of Death or Styx was supposed to be the boundary between Earth and the Underworld; it was so long that the Underworld was encircled nine times. Cerberus' parents were half–women–half–serpent, Echidna, and the fire–breathing giant, Typhoon. He had a two headed hell hound brother, Orthrus, and was said to be the siblings of the Nemean Lion, Lernaean Hydra, and the Chimaera. Cerberus was born in an egg located in ... • 9. Heracles 12 Labor Heracles and his twelve labors to becoming an immortal resembles my life endeavors in competing and learning the martial arts form of mainly Kenpo and various others. His twelve labors leading to his immortality signifies his pathway to becoming an immortal. Like my years of training and competing in Kenpo to become a better and disciplined man. These situations are tales of becoming a better individual going through labors that breaks down and changes a person for the best. It all started from who we were born from. Heracles, son of the great Zeus, was destined to be born with un–naturalistic talents. Such as strength and dexterity, shown when he was a baby and Hera sent the two snakes to kill Heracles. When the Hydra lost a head, Iolaus cauterized the stump so another would not grow in its place. Heracles smashed and buried the immortal head under a gigantic rock vanquishing the beast. The he continues to dip his arrow into the Hydra's poison. This all reminds me of my first competition for martial arts. Before my very first fight, my father gave me advice; instead of warming up my moves in front of the other fighters, I should stretch and watch the others warm up their moves so I know what they will do in the fight. At the start of my first fight, I was slightly scared of my opponent. With the help of my father, he said to me, "What I want you to do is hold your stance and take your right hand to throw a right cross punch to his face." That's exactly what I did. • 11. Hercules: A Mythological Greek Hero There is an old saying that states ?Things get better through time?. However I must disagree, especially when Hollywood has anything to due with it. Hercules has been a very popular mythological Greek hero. He was a man with powers similar to that of the gods. He had unmatched strength and unquestionable endurance for life. As stated previously it was unclear if Hercules was actually the son of Zeus. He was a man of great strength and determination. His stories were exaggerated adorations of his adventures. In todays society people always want to be remembered as great nations and superb leaders of technology and means of living. This could be why the film directors depicted Hercules as the idea that anyone could be as great and powerful as he was. This is not a literal since but by the means of how our stories will be told for the future generations. Also the movie depicted Hercules to be a mercenary. This relates to the modern saying that ?nothing in this world is free?. In ancient times people used means of currency but a common method of payment was the barter system and the rights to have honorable names. Even though this system still exists, our method for working is the right to payment by currency. As you watch the movie the mercenary?s all played vital roles. The first was the shaman spear master. • 29. Hercules In Greek Mythology In greek mythology, it is mentioned in one of the vast tales of a serpent bearing nine heads. This serpent is known as the Lernean Hydra. Getting its name for ravaging the country of Lernae near Argos, it dwelt in a swamp near a well called the well of Amymone. The hydra had nine heads. One head, the center one, was immortal, which means to live forever. The other heads, however, if chopped off would regrow two more from each head cut. On top of that its venom was very deadly. Being exposed to it would bring certain death to its victims. Its venom flowed through its blood as well. I personally think the hydra is one of the most interesting creatures from greek mythology. I think I will start off with the Lernaean Hydra's regrowth abilities. There is a classic greek mythological tale of the greek hero Hercules being sent to kill the hydra in a great battle. When he confronted the beast, the battle began fiercely. Hercules successfully severed some of the hydra's heads, but soon learnt that they regrew doubled. But, like all prominent heroes, he had enemies. His most hated enemy is no other than Zeus' wife, Hera. Because of the goddess Hera, he is known for one of his greatest qualities, bravery. Even though Hercules' life was dark, he was the most powerful and famous hero in all of the Greek mythology. Hercules' origin began when Zeus lay with Alkmene. But, before that Zeus had a desire for Alcmene. One day while Amphitryon, Alcmene's husband, was away, Zeus went to visit Alcmene disguised as Amphitryon. Right after Hercules' birth, Alcmene, his mother, took him to a forest outside of the city of Thebes and deserted him, because she was afraid of what Hera would do with Hercules. "However, Athena, the patron of most heroes, saw him from Olympus and advised Hera that they should go take a walk on Earth(Gagarin). They came to where the baby lay, hungry and crying, and Athena said to Hera, 'I can't do anything to help this baby, but you're one of those mother goddesses(Gagarin). Why don't you feed him(Gagarin)?' Hera, not knowing it was Hercules, began to nurse him at her breast, but Hercules sucked so hard that it hurt her(Gagarin). Hera pushed him away, and the force of her rejection (and of his sucking) was so great that milk flew from his mouth and her breast up into the sky(Gagarin)". Later on, when Hercules was sleeping in his crib Hera sent two snakes to kill Hercules. When Alcmene saw Hercules, he had two dead snakes in his hand. When he was older he was taught by great people. "Eurytos, the world's best archer, taught him archery, Autolykos taught him wrestling, Kastor taught him the use of weapons, and Linos, the brother of Orpheus, gave him music lessons(Gagarin)". James Svara outlines 4 dimensions of ethics as duty, virtue, principles and benefit to society. Each of these dimensions are standard of exceptional public service. At the core of all ethics in bureaucracy is the commitment to provide the greatest good for the greatest number. Moreover, Public Administrators are responsible for countless tasks to ensure that all recipients of a bureaucratic service are treated objectively. Unfortunately, not all Public Administrators illustrate exemplary behaviors conducive to incomparable public service. Theoretical considerations are best used to observe human nature and public administration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Captain America failed to apprehend The Winter Soldier despite the chaos he caused to the Public due to the fact that they knew each other personally. This conflict of interest between the Public and Captain America is known as an information asymmetry as Captain America failed to disclose that his enemy during the movie was once his friend. The Public is at a disadvantage in this instance as they are not fully disclosed on all of the details concerning their protection moving forward while the immediate safety of The Winter Soldier was granted by Captain America. Consequently, Captain America exemplified both exceptional and questionable ethical practice in his duty as a public administrator. Likewise, Nick Fury was a public administrator that also exhibited outstanding public service and unethical decision making as well. Nick Fury was the immediate supervisor that delegated tasks to the Agents within S.H.I.E.L.D. Furthermore, Nick Fury advocated that S.H.I.E.L.D takes the world for what it is, not as they would like for it to be. Mobilization of the armed forces was one of the capabilities Nick Fury relished as he able to obtain fighter jets and automobiles that were primed for action should volatile situations ignite. • 33. Hercules Tragic Hero Hercules is a well–known Greek/Roman hero. He is a great hero and the son of the great god Zeus. Like all prominent heroes, he had enemies. Before that Zeus had a desire for Alcmene. When Amphitryon, her spouse, left for battle, he then proceeded to visit her while impersonating Amphitryon. Right after Hercules' birth, Alcmene, his mother, took him to a forest outside of Thebes and deserted him, because she was fearful of Hera and what she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Hercules and his family were happy, Hera drove Hercules into insanity. He killed Megara and his three sons. When Hercules realized what he did, he wanted to kill himself. Yet his cousin persuaded him to atone for his sins. He visited the Oracle at Delphi. He was told to serve his cousin, King Eurystheus. Hera, his most hated enemy, caused most of the things that have gone wrong in Hercules life. When Hera found out that Zeus had broken his vow by laying with another woman she tried to stop Hercules from being born. She sent the goddess of birth, Ilithyia to sit cross–legged to stop Hercules' birth. The article Heracles says that Ilithyia would have killed Heracles if Alcmene's servant had not fooled Ilithyia, who mislead Ilithyia by saying that Alcmene had given birth to Hercules. The article also says that "Upon hearing this, she jumped in surprise, untying the knots and inadvertently allowing Alcmene to give birth to her twins, Heracles and Iphicles". Then Hera sped up the birth of Eurystheus to allow him to become the sole ruler of the vast empire Hercules was meant to rule. She then sent two great snakes to kill Hercules, but having Zeus' great strength he killed the two snakes. Hercules went on to marry Megara and had three sons. Cartwright says that Hera once again disrupted Hercules life and drove him insane so he killed Megara and his three sons. Hera then guided the oracle to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Greek Mythology: The Two Different Types Of Greek Gods Ancient Greeks came up with their own answers on things that happen in the world later on we began to call them myths. There are 2 different types of myths but there are many different myth stories. The 2 different myths are called creation myths and explanatory myths. Besides myths there are Greek gods and Goddesses. There are 3 different categories of Greek gods; they're called Olympian gods, Titans, and gods that aren't labeled. The most used myth category is creation myths. Inside myths there are mythical figures, mortals, heroes, elements, gigantes, creates, monsters, and places. A Chimaera was a Greek myth monster. It was the child of Typhoeus and Echidna and the sibling to Cerberus and Lernaean Hydra. The Chimaera has the head and body of a lion, head of a goat, and a tail that was a snake. The Chimaera was killed by Bellerophon. Mount Olympus was the home to the Olympian Gods. The Underworld was deep in the earth and was kingdom of the dead. The Underworld was ruled by Hades. • 35. Monsters of Greco-Roman Myth Essay Monsters of Greco–Roman Myth To have a hero there must be a monster to vanquish. Monsters in Greco–Roman mythology are often portrayed as: irrational, nearly impossible to communicate with, often a compound of animal parts or some form of mutation, and are set upon human destruction. "Monsters in the language of mythology were beings of unnatural proportions or parts, usually regarded with terror, as possessing immense strength and ferocity, which they employed for the injury and annoyance of men" (Bullfinch Pg. 143). Mythological monsters are a way for man to explain what he doesn't understand. They are an attempt to explain 'why' to things such as: storms, droughts and other unseasonable weather, unexplained deaths, birth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From Babylon, Marduk, Ea made Marduk a double god so that he would surpass all the other gods in form and in strength. Four sparkling eyes shone forth from Marduk's face, enabling him to see everything, and four large ears extended outward, enabling him to hear everything. Whenever Marduk moved his lips, fire blazed fourth from his mouth" (Rosenberg 7). For Eastern cultures multiple body parts such as eyes and limbs was something to be worshiped. Greco–Roman culture turned these attributes into mutations. Having excessive or less than a normal amount of body parts was a deformity, something to be feared and loathed. Egyptian gods such as Horus and Anubis had an appearance part human and part animal. For the Greeks it appears they were transformed into fearsome beasts such as the Minotaur, "[...] the Minotaur, a monster with a bull's body and a human head. It was exceedingly strong and fierce and was kept in a labyrinth constructed by Daedalus, so artfully contrived that whoever was enclosed in it could by no means find his way out unassisted. Here the Minotaur roamed, and was fed with human victims" (Bullfinch 181). • 36. Personal Narrative-Analytic Essay Most people's first thought when they find out they're being strangled is probably something along the lines of "Oh no! I'm being strangled! Help! Ahh!" or something like that. Mine, of course, was "Aww crap, not again." I was fairly used to people attempting to strangle me by now, which might have to do with the fact that most people at Shield don't like my awesome puns as much as I do. However, most of them used their hands to do it, not super powers. That was new. Unfortunately that also meant that I couldn't use my super awesome katanas to get out of my current situation. I designed them myself, but I was still making modifications. They were way cooler than normal katanas because after reading a certain book series(it's called H.I.V.E.) I made a few changes to the original design. I could now make them as sharp or dull as I wanted, to a certain degree. Anyway, enough about my babies and back to me being strangled. I was kinda starting to pass out, which is about the time I started panicking. Yea, I know what you're thinking. "Woah, Jac, you're so strong and brave! How were you not panicking?" The main issue is planning the company's production capacity for the coming year. At issue is the overall level of capacity and the type of capacity–for example, the degree of flexibility in the manufacturing system. The main tool used to aid the company's planning process is a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model. A mixed integer program has both integer and continuous variables. Problem Statement The Giant Motor Company (GMC) produces three lines of cars for the domestic (U.S.) market: Lyras, Libras, and Hydras. Similarly, if the demand for Libras is 1,220,000 cars (1,100,000 original demand plus 120,000 demand diverted from Lyras), then the unsatisп¬Ѓed demand for Lyras would be 420,000 if no capacity is added. Out of this unsatisп¬Ѓed demand, 42,000 ( 420,000 0.1) will materialize as demand for Hydras. All other unsatisп¬Ѓed demand is lost to competitors. The pattern of demand diversion is summarized in Table 6.18. A quick comparison of plant capacities and demands in Table 6.16 and Table 6.17 indicates that GMC is faced with insufп¬ Ѓcient capacity. Partially offsetting the lack of capacity is the phenomenon of demand diversion. If a potential car buyer walks into a GMC dealer showroom wanting to buy a Lyra but the dealer is out of stock, frequently the salesperson can convince the customer to purchase the better Libra car, which is in stock. Unsatisп¬Ѓed demand for the Lyra is said to be diverted to the Libra. Only rarely in this situation can the salesperson convince the customer to switch to the luxury Hydra model. Marvel comic's "What If?" series takes famous stories and characters and asked the question of "What if instead of this happening, this happened instead?". Instead of tackling famous questions like, "What if Spider–Man joined the Fantastic Four?" or "What if Captain America hasn't vanished during World War 2?", Agents of SHIELD asks, "What if the world was taken over by Hydra?" • 39. Characteristics of a Classical Hero Demonstrated in The... "The Labours of Hercules" introduces the most famous Greek hero in mythology, Hercules. He completes twelve immense tasks at an early age for killing his family while under a curse from Hera. Two of his most obvious moments of assistance were when he asks the King of Thebes for his twelve tasks and when he needs help during the search for one of Hera's treasures. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hercules demonstrates a second characteristic when he embarks on his twelve incredibly dangerous labours. By completing these tasks, Hercules would be forgiven for the killing of his family while under Hera's spell. An instance of one of these tasks is when he must destroy Hydra, a creature with many heads, one of which is immortal. He fulfills this task by cutting off most of its heads and then laying its immortal head under a rock for eternity. On another labour Hercules is sent to retrieve Cerberus (the three headed dog of Hades) and bring him to the King then, return it to the post at the entrance to the underworld. These and many other of Hercules immense tasks therefore display a vital quality of a hero in classical mythology. A third trait of a classical hero is demonstrated when Hercules experiences many afflictions and misfortunes during his journeys. Ever since Hera's husband Zeus had an affair and gave life to Hercules, she has hated him and is responsible for most of his afflictions. One of these afflictions is when Hera drove Hercules mad and made him kill his wife and family. Another example of his misfortunes is when Hera sent two very dangerous snakes after him when he was only eight months old; luckily Hercules was incredibly strong and defeated the deadly snakes. The tremendous amount of hardships along his quest therefore reflects a third heroic quality in Hercules. Many characteristics of a classical hero are demonstrated by Hercules in ... • 40. Was Heracles Really A Hero Was Heracles really a hero for Ancient Greeks? What did he do that was so heroic? There are many different opinions on this question. Some people believe that it was because of his heroic acts against monsters, and death. His heroic parts were that "As part of his Twelve Labors, Heracles killed monstrous creatures (the Nemean lion, the Hydra, and the Stymphalian birds) and captured dangerous animals (the Erymanthian boar, the Cretan bull, and man–eating horses). He even brought the hound Cerberus up from the underworld in a symbolic conquest of death itself (abcclio.com)." His non–heroic deeds were that "Heracles committed many outrages against relatives, friends, and innocent strangers when he was unable to control his passions, and he was also prone to gluttony and other excesses that were not considered admirable in Greek society (abcclio.com)." In Stephanie Budin's article she wrote about how he struggled keeping his emotions stable. She talked about how he sometimes had outrages, and went very violent towards people. She also talks about his heroic deeds as well. Emma Stafford, on the other hand, talks about how the story of Heracles developed over time and how his heroism has also changed over time.
