EVS Class 2 : Our Environment

  1. 1. EVS: Our Environment (Forests) Class II
  2. 2. Green Forests Forest or Wood is an area with large number of trees. Forests are home to many animals like deer, tiger, elephant, rhinoceros, etc. It is also a home to many plants and insects of different shapes and sizes.
  3. 3. Forests A Natural Resource Forest provide us with many things like wood, honey, rubber, nuts, herbs, etc. Juice of some plants such as babool and keekar is used to make gum.
  4. 4. Forests A Natural Resource Forests are important source of food for wild animals & grazing mammals. Forests helps to keep air clean and cool.
  5. 5. Deforestation Deforestation is the cutting or clearing of trees from forests. Trees are cut: For wood used as construction material in cities. For agriculture to grow crops. For creating grazing lands for cattle.
  6. 6. Deforestation Other Reasons are Burning of forest trees due to forest fire. Mining purpose or to make roads large number of trees are cut down
  7. 7. Deforestation If forests are destroyed there would be less rainfall. It will make the soil dry and will lead to a draught. Due to cutting down trees the temperature of the earth increases. It has harmful effects on human and all other living animals on earth.
  8. 8. Deforestation Deforestation causes soil erosion. Soil becomes unfit for farming or growing plants. Cutting down trees on steep slopes increases the risk of landslide, which can be dangerous for the lives of people.
  9. 9. Our Environment Our environment consists Natural Resources like Air, Water, Soil and Forests. We need air to breathe, water to drink, soil for agriculture. And there are many uses of forests. These resources are connected with each other. One resource is polluted leads the pollution to other resource. We should take care and protect our natural resources.
  10. 10. Protecting our Resources Reduce Water Consumption Conserve rain water Reduce Fuel Consumption - Ride the cycle Remember 3R’s Reduce, Reuse and Recycle…to conserve our Natural Resources.
  11. 11. Reuse Reuse BottlesReuse News Paper To Reuse is to use an item again after it has been used for same purpose or different.
  12. 12. Recycle Recycle CansRecycle Paper To Recycle is to convert materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials.
