X Ambassadors Unsteady
The quartet X Ambassadors songs are really powerful. Through their songs you can really feel the
story they're telling. X Ambassadors made their album, "VHS", about their journey to find
themselves, and that journey led them back home to a small town called Ithaca, New York. Since
their childhood the Harris brothers have always had roots with music. They're father was a
filmmaker and he encouraged Sam to join school musicals, this assisted Sam into finding his
storytelling and narrating abilities. Despite being blind, Casey Harris made a living as a professional
tuner. When Sam and his friends started a band Casey was keen on joining. But his older brother
was not so excited. His band mates convinced him, saying that Casey was a better musician ... Show

In the song "Unsteady" they added what sounded like playing cards, this made it sound like they
were going through the past . When this was mixed with Sam's powerful narrating skills, Casey's
keyboard ability, Noah's background guitar, and Adam's continuous beats, it was one of the most
popular songs X Ambassadors had produced: Unsteady. The piano's softness balances out with
Sam's loud voice, and the guitar and drums are perfect for the background music. Sam has a very
unique voice which he uses to create a picture or a story of some of his life problems he's dealing
with now or that he's dealt with in the past. Casey balances the piano with the guitar to make sure
there's a softness to the song, and Adam Levine uses his drums to create the tone. "Unsteady" has a
very powerful and emotional story. While Sam and Casey were growing up, their parents were
growing apart, eventually they got a divorce. The song Unsteady witnesses the perspective of a
child: what he feels like, what he knows, what he's trying to tell them, the use of all of their previous
knowledge helped them

The Media Techniques Employed to Give the Audience a Negative Impression of Commodus
From the start of the blockbuster and award winning film 'Gladiator', Ridley Scott uses many
different media techniques to give a negative impression of Commodus, the physically strong yet
emotionally weak son of Marcus Aurelius Caesar. Make up, lighting, sound effects, music, body
language, speech and facial expression are all factors that director Ridley Scott invokes to give the
audience an attitude of hatred and revulsion towards Commodus. All of these features develop along
with the films plot, and by the dramatic ending there is little left to think about Commodus other
than evil.
From the start of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows us what sort of person he is to become – he starts off as whining and annoying, but
slowly becomes stronger, more powerful and a lot more evil.
When Commodus sees his father praising Maximus and smiling with him, this makes him jealous
and this clearly visible on his face. A look of resentment takes over Commodus' facial expression
and shows us that he does not like Maximus at all, and is also extremely envious of him because he
has a stronger relationship with his father than his own son does. Deceiving all those around him,
Commodus falsely goes up to his father lovingly and takes his hand. This shows us that Commodus
will not stop at anything to be loved, and knows how to fool a crowd.
In front of an audience, Commodus seems to be very fond of Maximus, but when there I no one
around to see them both, he is as cruel as a man can be. Threatening, violent, disgraceful are all
traits of Commodus that he only shows to Maximus. This could be because he wants to show
Maximus that he is not scared of him, or it could be because he knows Maximus is too much of a
man to go and tell people about it. This shows that Commodus is extremely deceiving, however, it
also shows how much of a coward he is at the same time.
Because Commodus is clearly an emotionally unbalanced human being, when he hears people
talking ill of him or he is suspicious of someone doing so, he

Biblical Names In Toni Morrison's Song Of Solomon
People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based
on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family
member. Many names that are popular today are names from the Bible, since most of the biblical
characters possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah,
Jacob, David, and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they
are all biblical names. Names from the Bible are also found in many works of literature, like Toni
Morrison's Song of Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man during the mid twentieth
century. The reader is introduced to multiple characters with biblical ... Show more content on

Both women sacrificed something valuable, Reba her diamond ring and Rebecca her family
relationships, so that their children would be happy. The role of Reba in Song of Solomon is that of
a motherly figure, always putting her children first and not worrying about her own needs. This
description aligns well with biblical Rebecca, who sacrifices her relationship with part of her family
in order to please her son, Jacob. Reba is a kinder and more selfless version of the Bible's version of
Rebecca. Reba's aunt, Ruth Foster, has a name that is also associated with a character in the Bible,
also named Ruth. In the Bible, after her husband died, Ruth faithfully stays with her mother–in–law,
refusing to leave. One of Ruth's most notable quotes from the Bible is as follows: "Do not press me
to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; Where you lodge, I will
lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die–there will I
be buried. May the Lord do thus and so to me, and more as well, if even death parts me from you!"
(Ruth 1:16–17). In this quote, the reader can see that Ruth is willing to stay by her mother–in–law's
side no matter what, even claiming that she would even die with her. Naomi, her mother–in–law, is a
constant reminder of Ruth's husband, and she refuses to leave her because Naomi is the only
reminder she has of her late husband. In Song of Solomon, after

Music And Body Music
Music is everywhere in our daily lives and culture, whether it comes from instruments or your body
music has a significant effect on your daily habits, mood and how you act way. Anyone can sing or
play a drum, however only a small portion of artist can trigger certain gestures or movements within
your body by using special chords or rhymes. One album that does this is 'Vol. 2 ... Hard Knock
Life' by Jay–Z, by continuously listening to the album and the fourteen songs I concluded that the
amount of profanity used in each song is sky rocketing high, in the song "If I should die" in the first
twenty second I counted six profanities used. The amount of horrible language used at times can
easily distract the real message trying to be conveyed and more importantly in my case drift the
listener in counting the amount of vulgarity used instead of enjoying the music. However, to counter
this problem Jay–Z's songs have a unique rhyme for each song, weather it be a relaxing continuous
beat to a hardcore rap beat Jay–Z and the various singers seem to adapt their voices and pitches to
match the fluctuating chores. At times, the signer's voices dimmer down to allow the beat play
louder to signify an change and understanding of the message. When you first start to analyse and
ease into each individual track a common misunderstanding you gain is that each track sounds
familiar and repetitive. However, this is not the case if you analyse the songs very carefully the beats
build on from other

In The Weeknd Summary
Relationships are not always perfect nor end in a reasonable way, "In the night" written by the
Weeknd explains how even though his girl has done wrong and is broken from the previous
relationship, he still stays beside her. The song begins by saying how "all alone she was living",
meaning that she was alone before he came into her life. He then continues to say," In a world
without an end or beginning", indicating that she was alone and enduring pain for a long period of
time. She had committed a plethora of wrongdoings, but he didn't mind and still chose her. She was
numb and homeless with no place to go, meaning that she is battling depression.
He soon falls in love with her and knows "that she's capable of anything, it's riveting", meaning

One Republic: Song Analysis
For my first Song I picked ordinary human by One Republic. I picked this song as When Jace and
Clary first see each other. In the book they are both surprised. Jace is surprised because he saw that
Clary could see him kill the blue haired boy. This is shown in the beginning of the song when it says
today I felt a switch in my veins meaning that today something irregular happened. Then it says I
used to be a shadow implying that someone can now see him which is Clary who can not only see
him but later in the movie can see him figuratively as in she can tell what he is feeling and she
knows him better than anyone because they are brother and sister. Then the song says now a shadow
screaming my name. This describes the moment when Clary sees the blue haired boy die and she
screams. Next the song says in the daylight I could swear we were the same. ... Show more content

I picked this song as music that would play in the movie when Jace and Clary go into the flower
garden that lights up at night. This song would be played with no speaking the entire seen until the
end. There are many ways this song could be related to the book but i chose just a couple for
shortened writing purposes. There is a lyric that says that I want to shelter you but with the beast
inside there's nowhere we can hide. This is implying that Jace is wanting to protect Clary not as a
sister yet but as a loved one and then as seen later in the series he is a monster truly because he is
part demon. Another lyric says this is my kingdom come. This is symbolic because the mansion they
live in looks like a huge castle and because Jace says that this in his favorite place in the mansion
therefore this is his kingdom. The next lyric says when you feel my heat look into my eyes it's where
my demons hide. This is again referring to his inner demon but this is also describing the seen in the
flower garden when they kiss and they are all dreamy looking into each other's

Kodak Black Horses Analysis
The song that i have chosen is Horses by PnB Rock, Kodak Black, A Boogie wit da Hoodie. I like
this song because it connects with me on a personal level. For instance, when it says, "Going so fast,
hope i don't crash (skrr, skrr) One false move, that could be my last (yeah)," it make me think of me
running, playing any sport or even work for school and how fast i do everything. The song makes
me think that if one thing goes wrong it could be the last thing you will ever do. I chose it because it
has a special connection with me. I admire all three performers, they all inspire me of what hard
work does if you put the time in to do your work. I like all of A Boogie wit da hoodie's songs they
all are unique in their own way. Kodak Black is a fantastic performer. His songs have a special twist

Song Analysis: When I Was Your Man By Bruno Mars
Throughout the song,"When I Was Your Man," Bruno Mars uses lyrics from his point of view as a
guy that just got out of a relationship to show how it caused his change of identity and even his life.
In the song, he talks about how everyday things that he does just aren't the same anymore since the
breakup. He also shows how this difficult experience caused him to grow and mature. Apart from
those changes, he also becomes self–aware of his actions. Mars is basically grieving over his lost
relationship and how he wishes he could take it back because it's caused him to change drastically.
First and foremost, he talks about how the normal, simple things he used to do everyday don't feel
the same ever since he lost his girlfriend. For

Stressed Out By Twenty-One Pilots: Song Analysis
The song "Stressed Out" by Twenty–One Pilots is a story about a struggling singer which seems
familiar to the audience on a personal level. While exploring such sensitive topics as stress,
becoming an adult, and nostalgia, it also touches upon the issue of originality. The understanding
between the lead singer, Tyler Joseph, and the listeners is reached with the help of the themes, the
tone, and the narrative of the song.
From the very first lines Tyler tries to adapt to the world built by musicians, but remain true to
himself nonetheless. By saying "I wish I found some better sound no one's ever heard" (1:1), Mr.
Joseph highlights the fact that it is very difficult to invent something new nowadays. He further
develops this topic by talking about chords in a song. However, it is not just the melody that he is
concerned with, but also the lyrics and the way they should sound. The narrator is insecure and
doesn't believe that who he is at the moment is good enough for the audience he is looking for. "I
wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sing" (1:4) introduces the notion that he has to act within
certain preset ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sings "I was told, when I get older, all my fears would shrink/But now I'm insecure, and I care
what people think" (1:5,6) and we finally realize how scared he is. In a world where he, just a
moment ago, was a small boy, he now has to be an adult. He is very self–aware, and other people's
opinions are important to him, which makes it difficult to be who he really is or who he aspires to
be. The drummer, Josh Dun, once stated in an interview, "We try to be as honest as we can, even at
the risk of not appearing to be super cool" (Catlin, 25). The fact that "Stressed Out", as many other
songs by Twenty One Pilots, goes against the accepted norms is probably one of the best examples
that confirms Mr. Dun's statement. Honesty, however, may not always be optimistic, and the
performers know

The Good Vs. The Bad: Katy Perry vs. Jon Lajoie Essay
In today's society music influences people in many ways both for the better and for the worst. Music
plays such a big role in modern society due to its easy accessibility like the radio. There are many
artist in the world some that influence people for the better, muses, and others that influence others
for the worst ,Monsters. Jon Lajoie is an example of a monster, he displays this in his song "Show
me your genitals" when he degrades women to a lower standard, and talks about them like the are

While some music artist are monsters such as Jon Lajoie there are also many artist who still have
good morals, such as, Katy perry, Katy shows this in her song "Firework", when she talks about
being the best that you can be, never giving up, and that everything happens for a reason. Early in
the song Katy mentions, "Do you know that there's still a chance for you 'cause there's a spark in
you". Katy is saying that you should never give up because you never know what could happen and
that everyone has potential. Later in the song, Katy says, You don't have to feel like a waste of space
you're original, cannot be replaced If you only knew what the future holds After a hurricane comes a
rainbow". What Katy means, is that everyone was put on earth for a reason and no one should ever
feel like they are useless because everyone is unique. She is also saying that even if things aren't
going well now the future is bright and don't give up. Towards the end of the song, Katy mentions,
Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed so you could open one that leads to the perfect
one." Katy is again stressing the fact that everything happens for a reason and to not get discouraged
when one thing doesn't go right because their will be plenty more opportunities leading to a better
life. Altogether because Katy sing about being the best that you can be, never giving up, and that

3. The passage from Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison describes Milkman's confrontation with his
mother, Ruth, at the cemetery. Before, Macon has convinced Milkman to be disgusted of Ruth
because of Ruth's supposed affair with her father and Ruth's nature as a sexual deviant. One day,
Milkman follows Ruth to see with his own eyes the proof that Ruth is a sexual deviant, and
Milkman is led to the cemetery. Milkman confronts Ruth whom reveals that she did not have an
affair with her father. Ruth says, "No. But I did kneel there in my slip at his bedside and kiss his
beautiful fingers," which contradicts Macon's account of what happened. Ruth, fully clothed, only
kissed the hands of her mother. Ruth did not strip naked and kiss her father on the mouth like Macon
said. Then, Milkman points out Ruth's nursing of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This passage from the Song of Solomon describes Lena's confrontation with Milkman after
Milkman ratted out Corinthian's relationship with Porter to Macon which led to Macon breaking up
the relationship and evicting Porter from the apartments. The passage says, "When you slept, we
were quiet; when you were hungry, we cooked; when you wanted to play, we entertained you." Lena
has had enough of catering to Milkman and Milkman pissing on everyone. Lena and Corinthian has
slaved away for Milkman's comfort without a single thank you, and they developed a strong sisterly
bond as a result. So, when Milkman ruined Corinthian's relationship, it was the last straw for Lena
and she wanted Milkman out of the house. Milkman was trying to be a better persona and calmly
said, " Lena, cool it. I don't want to hear it." However, Milkman came out as apathetic and uncaring

How Does Toni Morrison Use Names In Song Of Solomon
Macon Dead, Pilate, Reba, Hagar, First Corinthians, Milkman, Circe and Guitar. Toni Morrison,
author of Song of Solomon, has a greater purpose for using these unique names. From the onset of
the novel, Morrison's use of names is significant and deliberate throughout the text. For instance,
Not Doctor Street, originally named Mains Street acknowledging the only black doctor the city
allowed, hints at the social tensions between black and white people in this society. Additionally, the
name "Blood Bank" was chosen to describe a rough part of the city. Morrison uses this name to
expose the differing social classes and racism that exists in the town. In addition to physical places,
Morrison also picked the names of each character intentionally. ... Show more content on

From the onset on the novel, Morrison is able associate Guitar with the theme of unattainability
through the ""...contest, in a store down home in Florida" (45). Guitar "saw [the guitar] when [his]
mother took [him] downtown with her. [He] was just a baby...[he] cried for it, they said. And always
asked about it" (45). Guitar's name originates from this very event in his childhood. In addition to
that fact that Guitar is simply unable to obtain the guitar he desires, Morrison displays the
unattainability of the guitar by explaining "It was one of those things where you guess how many
beans in the big glass jar and you win a guitar" (45). This game adds an additional barrier between
Guitar and the guitar in the store because it makes the guitar appear as a "trophy" to winning the
contest. This connects to the idea of contest and athletics as people compete with the attentions of
winning or obtaining money, trophies, or pride. Just like how the death of his own father makes him
unattainable Guitar choses to go to war with racism. Guitar notices racism present in society
"...When a Negro child, negro woman, or negro man is killed by whites and nothing is done about it
by their low and their courts..." (154). Guitar tries to end racism and reach equality be joining the
Seven Days Society which "...selects a similar victim at random, and they execute him or her in a
similar manner if they can" (154). Morrison uses her major theme of racism to show the significance
of Guitar's name as he joins the Seven Days Society attempting to reach justice by killing white
people when they kill other black people. Morrison shows that Guitar is fighting in an unwinnable
war; Guitar keeps fighting anyways (1). Deeper in the novel, Guitar's "...commitment to political
justice goes awry: in seeking a death for Hagar's death, presumably, Guitar "sacrifices" the innocent

Analysis Of The Human Condition By Jon Bellion
Introduction The Human Condition is Jon Bellion's first album and is rising in popularity through its
appeal to the pop genre and witty lyrics. Jon Bellion is the character in his own album and his
journey from a child to an adult and a nobody to a celebrity is the primary focus throughout most of
his songs. The journey of himself through the songs is what makes the lyrics interesting. The general
understanding is that Bellion wishes to portray himself as unique but humble. The pressures he feels
from society and the pressures of his childhood are prominent in the understanding of his self
expression. Bellion seeks to find the universal in the specific. The Human Condition is an attempt to

Love Songs Essay
Every day on the radio, there is bound to be a love song playing somewhere. These types of songs
can seem upbeat and happy, but that is just the music playing behind the lyrics. The music in these
songs are written in a major key which make the song sound lively and cheerful. Even with the
darkest meaning behind the lyrics, the music can give off different perspectives. Many people
believe that love songs are about love but in reality some of those songs have a depressing story
behind them. Many love songs are not love songs at all if one examines the lyrics.
In fact the song "It will rain" by Bruno Mars is a clear example of a love song with a complete
different meaning to it than love. The verse " if you ever leave me baby leave some ... Show more

One last thing he says is "I can't feel my face when I'm with you, but I love it." This refers to the
state of being wasted or high. He loves the emotions and feeling he gets when he is doing these
drugs.
Furthermore, another example of a song with a darker meaning would be "Little Talks" by Of
Monsters and Men. This song is another example of many songs that don't quite refer to love. For
instance this song without paying close attention to the lyrics is a conversation between two people
that love each other. In reality it's an illusion a woman is having with a supposed man as stated in
the verse, "I miss our little talks." As the song continues the woman gives of a hint when the song
reads, "you're gone, gone, gone away... Just let me go, we'll meet again soon." This verse
foreshadows that the woman is slowly getting lost in mental illness after the death of her partner.
That's why her illusions are fulfilling that empty space that her partner left behind when he died.
Many artists write songs that can be interpreted in many different ways, and the songs stated above
are not an exception to this rule. Taking a closer look at the lyrics and analyzing them can show a
better meaning of what the artist is trying to tell the listener. Many artists try to conceal a hidden
message in their songs to hide their darkest secrets to prevent a bad reputation against them. With

Biblical Illusions in Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon...
Biblical Illusions in Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon
Song of Solomon, by Toni Morrison, is about a man named Macon Dead. Throughout this novel,
however, he is known by all except his father as Milkman because his mother breastfed him until he
was in his teens. The novel centers on Milkman's attempt to find himself. His family is a wealthy
black family living in a poor black neighborhood, where Milkman's father prohibits Milkman from
interacting with most of them, including his aunt. However, he ends up visiting her, and while there,
he learns a little about his family's mysterious past and decides to look deeper into it. Throughout his
journey into his past, one may notice a large amount of biblical allusions.

_Song of Solomon_ in the Bible is about love, just as it is one of the most popular themes in
Morrison's novel. Love is apparent in several ways throughout the novel, from Hagar's immoral, and
eventually psychotic, love for her cousin, Milkman, (which eventually leads to Hagar's death), to the
lack of love that leads Milkman's mother to habitually breast feed him, at least daily, for years just to
get a small amount of pleasure. Morrison explains this by saying, "...he was old enough to be bored
by the flat taste of mother's milk."(Morrison)
Another way in which Morrison infuses a biblical connection into her works is through the naming
of the children in the Dead family. When describing the names of the children she writes, "He had
cooperated... with the blind selection of names from the Bible for every child other than the first
born male. And abided by whatever the finger pointed to..." This is the reason for the naming of his
other two children (Milkman, or Macon, being the first born male), Magdalene from Mary
Magdalene, and First Corinthians, from "The Book of Corinthians."
Besides the children of Macon Dead, there are other biblical allusions in the names of people. One
of these is Hagar, Pilate's son and Milkman's cousin. Though the biblical Hagar is not well known,
her character in the Bible reflects, in some ways, the character in Morrison's novel. In the bible,
Hagar is Sarah's handmaiden. When she bares the son

Racism In Toni Morrison's Song Of Solomon
Title Analysis The title of Toni Morrison's acclaimed novel "Song of Solomon" has a few meanings
that can go along with it. The first is an allusion to the biblical book "Song of Songs" or commonly
know as "Song of Solomon" which is all about sexual themes and desires and that. The next
meaning is a reference to the protagonist's great grandfather whose name was Solomon and had a
song about him in which Solomon could fly and left his son Jake on the ground and inevitably to a
white man's house. Major Themes Racism: Racism plays a very pivotal role in this work as it shapes
a character thoroughly and even an entire group. Racism is seen to affect Guitar and the Seven Days
the most as Guitar has always hated the white man since he blamed them for the death of his father
but becomes more twisted as the novel progresses as he joins ... Show more content on

From the very first chapter we see Mr. Robert Smith take flight from the roof of the Mercy Hospital
where he was trying to escape his life and we even hear a song from Pilate where she says "O
Sugarman done fly away". As the first part of the novel progresses we see Milkman at an internal
struggle as he wants to fly away and escape from his father and his hometown in general. When
Milkman takes an literal flight as to search for information about his past he comes to appreciate his
ancestors and family as a whole and even learns about his great grandfather who was known as a
flying African and was the premise to the song that Pilate sang but was actually sung "Solomon
done fly, Solomon done gone". Death also plays with the theme of flight as when Pilate is killed a
bird swoops down on the grave she made for her father and picks up her earring which symbolizes
her flying away. Even with Milkman's final confrontation with Guitar he takes his knowledge of his
journey and thinks to himself "If you surrendered to the air, you could ride

Run' By George Strait: Music Analysis
Artists write or compose things for a specific reason, usually this is to convey a feeling to the
listener or reader. When words are placed with music, it can change how a person hears or thinks of
a song. In the song "Run" by George Strait he creates a feeling of desperation and longing not only
with his lyrics, but also with the melody that goes along with it. Music is powerful, and it can
change your attitude towards something just by the sound and tone of music. By adapting a song
into a letter, one can either change the meaning of the whole song or allow it to give the reader the
same feeling as before. I changed George's song into a letter to show how things can be different or
the same when you take music out of a piece.. In my adaptation ... Show more content on

George Straits daughter was killed in a car crash in 1986 when she was just 13. When most people
see this song they immediately think that it is a love song and in a way, it is, but I think that this
could maybe not be a song addressed to a significant other but rather to his daughter. This could be a
possibility in his intention for this song. Yes, the song may sound worldly when he is telling her how
to get to him, but when he tells her "cut a path across the blue skies, straight in a straight line you
can't get here fast enough." Maybe he is trying to talk to his daughter again and wants her to
seemingly fly down from heaven to him so he can see her once more. This would also explain why
he misses her so much, maybe it's his little girl who died who he is writing to. In many of his other
songs George talks about Dallas and always sings about Dallas, perhaps in this song when he talks
about her leaving Dallas to return to him he is thinking of Dallas as his form of heaven. So, he is
begging his daughter to come from Dallas which is his representation of heaven, to come back to
him if at all possible. This is the only variation I can think of for the lyrics: instead of the thought of
it being toward his wife or lover it may be for his daughter who passed away in a car

The True Language Of Love
The True Language of Love
When reading early British texts, readers often notice that two main themes are recurring within the
stories and poems of the time. These themes are love and religion; both of these were important
within the culture. However, the readers may not realize that the language used in describing the two
different themes is not different at all. In fact, the language of love and the language of religion are
very similar, especially in medieval texts. Two texts that provide an excellent example of this type of
language are Marie de France's Lanval and Margery Kempe's The Book of Margery Kempe.
Comparing the language used in these works with the biblical book Song of Songs, it is clear that
the language used in the texts of the medieval period doubles as both religious and romantic.
Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon, is a book of the bible that focuses on Christ's love for his
people. Within the book, Christ is portrayed as the bridegroom and Christians as his bride.
According to Vivian de Sola Pinto, the book is the nuptial song of King Solomon and his Egyptian
Bride, but is also an allusion to "the Love Union and Communion between Christ and the church",
and even further, "Christ and every believing soul (Pinto)." Using this explanation, not only is the
language in this biblical book different from the other books of the Bible, but also it blends the
language of love and the language of religion. Using this philosophy about the
sensuality of the

Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill's Song 'I Used To Love Him'
The 9th track on the "Miseducation of Lauryn Hill", "I Used to Love Him" starts with a monotonous
slow "I used to love him but now I don't" –her regret and slowly healing pain apparent. The guitar
riff at the beginning sounds like a heartbeat close to dying – although this beat continues throughout
the song, it picks up pace (in a similar fashion to Hill's now fixed heart). The song acts as a break up
venting session between Mary J. Blige and Hill and describes the after effects of her affair with Jean
Wyclef (her former Fugees bandmate).
The song is kind of vengeful, chronicling how good it feels to let go. Hill is crooning to her
audience while seeking forgiveness for what are sins in her eyes (letting a guy take control of her

Essay on Spirituality in Song of Solomon
Inclusive Spirituality in Song of Solomon
When slaves were brought to America they were taken from all they had known and forced to live in
a land of dark irony that, while promising life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, provided them
with only misery. In a situation such as the one in which the slaves found themselves, many people
would rely on their religion to help them survive. But would slaves be able to find spiritual comfort
within the parameters of a religion that had been passed on to them from the slaveholders? In Toni
Morrison's Song of Solomon, African–Americans struggle to find a spirituality that is responsive to
their needs and that encompasses their experiences in a way that the religion of the dominant ...

Perhaps more than even giving the reader a clue about what is to come, Morrison gives readers this
scene in an attempt to pique interest in the meaning of words. Perhaps Morrison is showing readers
that just because a word has meant one thing in the past, it is not precluded from taking on other
meanings as well. For the readers of Song, that is exactly what happens.
In Morrison's story, the name Pilate loses its original meaning of Christ killer and gains the meaning
of one who has control of the direction of her life. Pilate is a seeker. She asks, "What do I need to
know to stay alive?" and "What is true in the world?" (149). Dominant culture might only need to
ask about truth. Minority culture asks about survival. Because of her gift for penetrating to the heart
of her own experience, Pilate becomes a person who can guide others.
The most prominent of all the uses of biblical names in the story is the title itself, Song of Solomon.
Throughout the novel, a non–minority reader, recalling the biblical Song of Songs or Song of
Solomon as the title is often translated in English Bibles, has the image before them of sensual love
poetry. However, a reader who, because of the title, is expecting a sensual love story will be
wondering how

Most of the songs you hear on the radio nowadays are upbeat songs about relationships, love, and
partying it up. While most of these songs have a catchy tune and a nice beat, the lyrics can
sometimes be unrealistic or hard to relate to; we connect to the beat but not to the meaning behind
the words. This is not always a bad thing, but sometimes it can be refreshing to listen to a song that
hits close to home or that you can relate to your own life or experiences you have gone through. One
artist that does an incredible job of expressing extremely relatable and important subjects and

He does not limit himself to any specific style and because of this his work does not fall under any
specific category. An unusual characteristic of his songs that makes his music even more eclectic is
the fact that they are poetry based, which leads to a unique combination of rapping and singing (and
sometimes even yelling) that allows him to express his emotions through vocals. Gloria K. Fiero
writes, "The strong association between poetry and music suggests that the human voice [has] a
significant influence in both melody and rhythm" (58). The voice of the singer is what gives the
song that distinct twist that sets it apart from others, and if the song is originally written as a poem it
gives the artist the freedom to interpret and express the lyrics however they see is best fit. Any

Drake's Song Too Good
Drake's song "Too Good" is, in many ways an amazing work of art. Two amazing artists– Drake and
Rhianna– sing this song. While listening to a song there are a few criteria's that should be followed
and those are: rhythm, meaning, and voice, in which all are met in this song. First, lets discuss the
rhythm that takes place in this song in particular. According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary,
rhythm is defined as "a regular, repeated pattern of sounds or movements." In this song the rhythm
is consistent and has a catchy beat. Since the songs style is labeled as "contemporary hip–hop" the
rhythm properly corresponds with it by using many instruments, which make up the pattern of
sounds that are heard in the background of the singers. Rhythm is very important in a music piece
because its one of the first things that catches the audiences attention. In addition to rhythm being
important criteria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary the definition of voice is "the ability to sing." This is
probably the most important criterion because an audience doesn't want to listen to a song that
contains a horrible voice. This song is a perfect example of two amazing voices. Drake, a famous
hip–hop and rap artist, and Rhianna, another famous hip–hop artist, sing this song as a duet. Their
voices fit perfectly in this song because they both have a serious tone in their voice to relate with the
situation the song is addressing. For example, this song couldn't be sang by two singers that have a
high pitch happy voices because the message that is being portrayed is more of a serious tone rather
than a happy tone; therefore, these two singers voices fit the part very well. Overall, the song "Too
Good" by Drake and Rhianna is met extremely well with the three criteria's of rhythm, meaning, and
voice. This song portrays a great meaning, that has excellent rhythm and voices of singers that fit the

The Death Of A Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
About two thirty that afternoon, up pulls Willie and he almost fell as he was getting out of his truck;
one, because it had not come to a complete stop yet and two, because he was as drunk as a skunk

Little Marcus' eyes lit up like a Christmas tree as he squealed with delight when his uncle Willie

in a good mood. However, this time he almost dropped Marcus and it severely pissed me off. It was
all I could do not to give him a good cussing, but in order to once again, keep the peace I bit my

However, an example of the allegory use would be this line, "And keep talking that mess, it's fine,
but could you walk and talk at the same time" (Lines 7 and 8). In this example, she is basically
telling us as listeners a story of what was said and what happened. However, this continues during
the entire song. The story that she is telling during the whole duration of the song is that she caught
her boyfriend cheating on her. She then decided to kick him out of her home and refused to listen to
anything he had to say in case he tried to change her mind. She also says, "Standing in the front
yard, tellin' me I'm such a fool, how I'll never find another you" (Lines 11through 13). In this line of
the story of her song she is saying how he's calling her a fool basically and telling her he cannot be
replaced and this in itself is a form of abuse. However, she stands up to him and basically tells him
that she could have a new boyfriend as soon as he leaves the house if she wants to. Hyperbole is also
used in this song. Throughout this song she seems to exaggerate more than she should but in
particular places she uses over exaggeration such as in the line, "It's my name that's on that jag, so
come move your bags, and let me call you a cab" (Lines 9, 10). In this line you can hear how she
overly exaggerates the words and stresses them to the point that it stands out. By her over
exaggerating during this line, she is trying to make sure she is getting the point of the song across to

Music is an aspect of every culture that is used to connect its people and bring the group together.
Essentially, every culture has their own unique genre of music. The question of "what is good
music," is an intriguing one because the answer to this question varies from culture to culture. Even
within a culture, the musical preferences change based on the individual. For this "What is good
music" project, I chose the song "Sour Patch Kids," by Bryce Vine, because this song exemplifies a
few things that I look for when determining good music.
I first found this song a couple of summers ago, when my friend Joey showed it to me. Instantly, I

To start off, I really enjoy the beat that Bryce uses on this track. This song features an upbeat
rhythm, and the lyrics compliment the beat. The entire song is supposed to deliver a nostalgic feel to
the listener. Throughout the song, He incorporates popular themes from his childhood into the lyrics,
and the music video features these themes throughout. For me, I think the nostalgic theme works
well with this song. It provides a happy, carefree feeling to the listener. When I listen to this song, it
personally brings back feeling and memories from the summer I was shown it. Because of this, I
believe the nostalgic theme of the song is a good fit. Another reason this is good music is because of
the lyrics. These lyrics break away from the typical stereotype that is expected from rap/hip–hop
music. It seems that recently, few popular songs have lyrics with meaning. Most feature lyrics that
will appeal to the masses to sell the most records. This is where Bryce Vine differentiates himself
from these artists. His lyrics share stories and experiences from his life, and are very personalized
for the listener. I recently went to one of his concerts he had in East Lansing, and when he
performed Sour Patch Kids, the entire crowd was singing along, and was brought together. This
experience exemplifies what Bryce Vine's music is all about; connecting people and delivering

Song of Solomon Names Names are apart of all cultures and have major significance to the
recipients of the name and further to the society as a whole. People are identified by the name
provided to them at birth. This such name can be derived from a variety of different origins,
depending heavily upon what ethnicity, or culture the child is born into. A parent provides their child
with a name that they believe has some kind of significance, or a deeper symbolic meaning to their
family. Throughout one's life, they might acquire a number of nicknames. Nicknames can reflect
how others perceive a certain person, or even how that person views himself, inferring either a
positive or negative connotation. In Songs of Solomon, many characters have names that provide a
deeper insight on their true identity in the novel. Whether the character is trying to escape the reality
of their name or not, the name itself still establishes truth behind theirs actions and who they came
from. Names in Song of Solomon ultimately establish a character's behavioral traits and cultural
background, advancing the direction of the novel.
In the novel, many of the characters are provided with names of either biblical or mythological
descent. These such names provide insight as to the identity of the character in the novel and further

The Importance Of Names In Song Of Solomon
People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based
on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family
member. Many names that are popular today are names from the Bible, since most of the biblical
characters possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah,
Jacob, David, and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they
are all biblical names. Names from the Bible are also found in many works of literature, like Toni
Morrison's Song of Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man during the mid twentieth
century. The reader is introduced to multiple characters with biblical names, which correspond to the
characters' personalities. In the book Song of Solomon, the characters take on the role of their
biblical names. Reba, Milkman's mother, can most closely be associated with Rebecca from the
Bible, as their names are nearly identical. In the Bible, Rebecca is known for her loyalty and
devotion to her son Jacob, whom she favors over her other son, Esau. She willingly ruins her
relationship to one of her sons and also her husband, Isaac, both of which she loves dearly. In Song
of Solomon, Reba cherishes her daughter Hagar, and makes sacrifices to please her, one of which
includes the donation of her diamond ring, which she miraculously wins when she walks into a
Sears store. The winning of the ring shows Reba's

Interpretation Of Love In Songs Of Solomon By William...
Introduction
"Take all my loves, my love, yea, take them all: What hast thou then more than thou hadst before?
No love, my love, that thou mayst true love call–All mine was thine before thou hadst this more."
The preceding poem, written by William Shakespeare, tells of a lover wanting to give all their love
to their lover. Similarly, the writer of Songs of Solomon tells of giving all the love to their lover.
Through this writing, different aspects of the Songs will be addressed, along with the defense of the
various forms of the Songs. Finality will show how the Songs fit with the church of today.
Song of Solomon – Brief list of the different ways the Song is Interpreted
Kathryn Harding, "Biblical Interpretation, 'I sought him but I did not find him': The Elusive Lover in
the Song of Songs,'" sources several scholars regarding the Songs of Solomon. These sources give
an insight into their interpretation of the Songs. One source focuses on the male lead of the Song
and the aspect of power from Cheryl Exum who discussed, "the male protagonist's concerns about
the power dynamics between himself and his lover in the Song; in her totality he finds her
overwhelming, even intimidating, and so he fragments her, considers her little–by–little, piece–by–
piece, in his waṣfs."
Subsequently, another source emphasizes how can one have sexual intimacy if they are apart from
one another. This is referenced from the writing by Edward Burne–Jones who states:

Song of Solomon Essay: Devotion and Protection
Devotion and Protection in Song of Solomon
Song of Solomon is a novel written by Toni Morrison. As research is done further, into the bible, the
title refers to a book from the Old Testament. A major theme of the book in the bible is love. It is
about honor and loyalty. This is similar to the theme of love and protection in the book by Toni
Morrison.
Three female characters that portray this best are: Pilate, Ruth, and Magdalene called Lena. In the
book, they are women that try to protect the people they love from men in their family. In the bible,
they hold similar roles of devotion to those that they love.
In Song of Solomon, Pilate is a strong–willed and independent woman. The reason that Ruth goes to
her, is to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the bible, Ruth has a chance to go and protect herself and find a husband, but she stays with her
mother in law. She has a chance to help herself, but she does the honorable thing and stays with
Naomi (Ruth 1:10–14).
Even though Pilate is seen as very powerful, she cannot always protect everything that is precious to
her. She attempts to help Hagar and prevent her from killing Milkman (129). Pilate loves both Hagar
and Milkman and tries to protect them both. Despite her efforts Hagar cannot be controlled. She
tries numerous times to hurt Milkman and does not stop until her death. Pilate knows that Hagar is
slowly hurting herself and can only be stopped by Milkman, but she cannot make Hagar understand
(130). Hagar is so demented that she kills herself because of her obsession. In the bible, Pilate is
also ambiguous about what to do. He knows that Jesus is innocent, but he also knows that it will
bring him trouble if he disobeys the people ( John 19:12).
Not much attention is given to Magdalene called Lena, but she is always seen as the quiet caregiver

Analyzing Lupe Fiasco's Words I Never Said
Speaking Out Loud – Analyzing Lupe Fiasco's "Words I Never Said" Artists create with a purpose
of sharing a message. Some popular artists in the public eye are challenged to be 'politically correct'
–– not offend anyone with his or her work. Of those popular artists very few express what they
believe in like rapper Lupe Fiasco. He is known globally for his articulate lyrics and speaking what
he calls, his truth. In his song "Words I Never Said" it is a lash out of ideas he has regarding social,
religious, and political events in our recent US history. Through lyrics and visual assistance from
director Sanna Hamri, Lupe Fiasco presents his song, "Words I Never Said" to share his
unapologetic perspective of the United States government.
In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She creates a world that has a strong law enforcement presence than instills fear in the people. In the
video Hamri symbolizes the silence Fiasco speaks of in his song with gag masks. There is a scene of
Fiasco stepping on a city bus and you see the bus driver wearing a gag mask. As Fiasco walks
through the bus he sees all the passengers are wearing gag masks. The situation of riding a full bus
is a perfect example of strangers not attempting to converse in such small quarters. They go about
their everyday life riding the bus, but do not speak to one another.
In the next scene, Fiasco continues to the back of the bus grabs the intercom walkie and spits out " I
really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit." (line 6.) Everyone simultaneously turns to looks
at him. As he continues to rap his peers look stunned at what he's saying. The bus immediately pulls
over and law enforcement charges in carrying him off the bus. Once they get him off the bus a gag
mask is strapped to his face. The action of law enforcement strapping the mask on Fiasco is a visual
of government silencing the

Lee Brice Concert Critique
Concert I attended a concert of Lee Brice, about 1 year ago. It was opened by Kelly Clarkson who I
personally wasn't that impressed by, because it wasn't the type of genre I was into, she was a little bit
more pop than she was country. After her if was followed up by Cam who is a very very good
country singer, who puts a lot of emotion into her singing and her songwriting. One thing that stood
out to me is that she could hold notes basically forever and that she didn't change pitch that much
during her song. Which I find is pretty cool when you can have songs that top the charts without
trying very hard to change pitches of octaves. You can tell the difference between her recorded song
and her during the concert, it feels like a different

Twenty-One Pilots
Twenty–One Pilots, a alternative rock duo from Columbus, Ohio, rose to fame very quickly after
forming in 2009. The duo is known for their subtle double meaning in their catchy songs, conveying
deep messages. They cover broad topics such as going against social norms, insecurities, religion,
and depression, which are things that are not really talked about among today's hit songs. A song
that depicts the corrupted and lifeless music industry is presented in their song called "Holding onto
You," released in 2001. The song's purpose is to inform listeners that they will get nothing but him
in his future songs, that he isn't making music to simply put a mindless beat on the radio. He
promotes this idea by utilizing diction, imagery, and the overall ... Show more content on

Tyler is now letting the audience gain a illustration of how much the producers are always pushing
their ideas and trying to change their decisions with surrounding the artist with their own.
The listeners are exposed to a defiant type of atmosphere when listening to the duo's song, it's a song
that makes the people who are listening feel a sense of empowerment and assertiveness. When
combining the diction and imaginary we are left to gain an overall feeling of the singer being
defiant, because he will not stop fighting against the produced on what he thinks is right for his own
brand, and his love for his deep meaningful music.
In today's culture, people are not subjected to music with a real meaning anymore, usually money,
fame, breakups, and sex, is what you'll find playing on the radio. However, that doesn't mean every
artist does this, Twenty–One Pilots, a band that hides their messages deep within the song, you'll just
have to listen closely to figure it out. Using diction, imagery, and the overall tone is something that
can help the artist disguise their songs, multiple bands do this to go against their produces, so they
can secretly say what they want to say, so they can have an audience listen to their

X Ambassadors Unsteady

  • 1. X Ambassadors Unsteady The quartet X Ambassadors songs are really powerful. Through their songs you can really feel the story they're telling. X Ambassadors made their album, "VHS", about their journey to find themselves, and that journey led them back home to a small town called Ithaca, New York. Since their childhood the Harris brothers have always had roots with music. They're father was a filmmaker and he encouraged Sam to join school musicals, this assisted Sam into finding his storytelling and narrating abilities. Despite being blind, Casey Harris made a living as a professional tuner. When Sam and his friends started a band Casey was keen on joining. But his older brother was not so excited. His band mates convinced him, saying that Casey was a better musician ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the song "Unsteady" they added what sounded like playing cards, this made it sound like they were going through the past . When this was mixed with Sam's powerful narrating skills, Casey's keyboard ability, Noah's background guitar, and Adam's continuous beats, it was one of the most popular songs X Ambassadors had produced: Unsteady. The piano's softness balances out with Sam's loud voice, and the guitar and drums are perfect for the background music. Sam has a very unique voice which he uses to create a picture or a story of some of his life problems he's dealing with now or that he's dealt with in the past. Casey balances the piano with the guitar to make sure there's a softness to the song, and Adam Levine uses his drums to create the tone. "Unsteady" has a very powerful and emotional story. While Sam and Casey were growing up, their parents were growing apart, eventually they got a divorce. The song Unsteady witnesses the perspective of a child: what he feels like, what he knows, what he's trying to tell them, the use of all of their previous knowledge helped them ... The Media Techniques Employed to Give the Audience a Negative Impression of Commodus From the start of the blockbuster and award winning film 'Gladiator', Ridley Scott uses many different media techniques to give a negative impression of Commodus, the physically strong yet emotionally weak son of Marcus Aurelius Caesar. Make up, lighting, sound effects, music, body language, speech and facial expression are all factors that director Ridley Scott invokes to give the audience an attitude of hatred and revulsion towards Commodus. All of these features develop along with the films plot, and by the dramatic ending there is little left to think about Commodus other than evil. From the start of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows us what sort of person he is to become – he starts off as whining and annoying, but slowly becomes stronger, more powerful and a lot more evil. When Commodus sees his father praising Maximus and smiling with him, this makes him jealous and this clearly visible on his face. A look of resentment takes over Commodus' facial expression and shows us that he does not like Maximus at all, and is also extremely envious of him because he has a stronger relationship with his father than his own son does. Deceiving all those around him, Commodus falsely goes up to his father lovingly and takes his hand. This shows us that Commodus will not stop at anything to be loved, and knows how to fool a crowd. In front of an audience, Commodus seems to be very fond of Maximus, but when there I no one around to see them both, he is as cruel as a man can be. Threatening, violent, disgraceful are all traits of Commodus that he only shows to Maximus. This could be because he wants to show Maximus that he is not scared of him, or it could be because he knows Maximus is too much of a man to go and tell people about it. This shows that Commodus is extremely deceiving, however, it also shows how much of a coward he is at the same time. Because Commodus is clearly an emotionally unbalanced human being, when he hears people talking ill of him or he is suspicious of someone doing so, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biblical Names In Toni Morrison's Song Of Solomon People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family member. Many names that are popular today are names from the Bible, since most of the biblical characters possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah, Jacob, David, and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they are all biblical names. Names from the Bible are also found in many works of literature, like Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man during the mid twentieth century. The reader is introduced to multiple characters with biblical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both women sacrificed something valuable, Reba her diamond ring and Rebecca her family relationships, so that their children would be happy. The role of Reba in Song of Solomon is that of a motherly figure, always putting her children first and not worrying about her own needs. This description aligns well with biblical Rebecca, who sacrifices her relationship with part of her family in order to please her son, Jacob. Reba is a kinder and more selfless version of the Bible's version of Rebecca. Reba's aunt, Ruth Foster, has a name that is also associated with a character in the Bible, also named Ruth. In the Bible, after her husband died, Ruth faithfully stays with her mother–in–law, refusing to leave. One of Ruth's most notable quotes from the Bible is as follows: "Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; Where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die–there will I be buried. May the Lord do thus and so to me, and more as well, if even death parts me from you!" (Ruth 1:16–17). In this quote, the reader can see that Ruth is willing to stay by her mother–in–law's side no matter what, even claiming that she would even die with her. Naomi, her mother–in–law, is a constant reminder of Ruth's husband, and she refuses to leave her because Naomi is the only reminder she has of her late husband. In Song of Solomon, after ... • 7. Music And Body Music Music is everywhere in our daily lives and culture, whether it comes from instruments or your body music has a significant effect on your daily habits, mood and how you act way. Anyone can sing or play a drum, however only a small portion of artist can trigger certain gestures or movements within your body by using special chords or rhymes. One album that does this is 'Vol. 2 ... Hard Knock Life' by Jay–Z, by continuously listening to the album and the fourteen songs I concluded that the amount of profanity used in each song is sky rocketing high, in the song "If I should die" in the first twenty second I counted six profanities used. The amount of horrible language used at times can easily distract the real message trying to be conveyed and more importantly in my case drift the listener in counting the amount of vulgarity used instead of enjoying the music. However, to counter this problem Jay–Z's songs have a unique rhyme for each song, weather it be a relaxing continuous beat to a hardcore rap beat Jay–Z and the various singers seem to adapt their voices and pitches to match the fluctuating chores. At times, the signer's voices dimmer down to allow the beat play louder to signify an change and understanding of the message. When you first start to analyse and ease into each individual track a common misunderstanding you gain is that each track sounds familiar and repetitive. However, this is not the case if you analyse the songs very carefully the beats build on from other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She had committed a plethora of wrongdoings, but he didn't mind and still chose her. She was numb and homeless with no place to go, meaning that she is battling depression. • 11. One Republic: Song Analysis For my first Song I picked ordinary human by One Republic. I picked this song as When Jace and Clary first see each other. In the book they are both surprised. Jace is surprised because he saw that Clary could see him kill the blue haired boy. This is shown in the beginning of the song when it says today I felt a switch in my veins meaning that today something irregular happened. Then it says I used to be a shadow implying that someone can now see him which is Clary who can not only see him but later in the movie can see him figuratively as in she can tell what he is feeling and she knows him better than anyone because they are brother and sister. Then the song says now a shadow screaming my name. This describes the moment when Clary sees the blue haired boy die and she screams. Next the song says in the daylight I could swear we were the same. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I picked this song as music that would play in the movie when Jace and Clary go into the flower garden that lights up at night. This song would be played with no speaking the entire seen until the end. There are many ways this song could be related to the book but i chose just a couple for shortened writing purposes. There is a lyric that says that I want to shelter you but with the beast inside there's nowhere we can hide. This is implying that Jace is wanting to protect Clary not as a sister yet but as a loved one and then as seen later in the series he is a monster truly because he is part demon. Another lyric says this is my kingdom come. This is symbolic because the mansion they live in looks like a huge castle and because Jace says that this in his favorite place in the mansion therefore this is his kingdom. The next lyric says when you feel my heat look into my eyes it's where my demons hide. This is again referring to his inner demon but this is also describing the seen in the flower garden when they kiss and they are all dreamy looking into each other's ... • 19. Stressed Out By Twenty-One Pilots: Song Analysis The song "Stressed Out" by Twenty–One Pilots is a story about a struggling singer which seems familiar to the audience on a personal level. While exploring such sensitive topics as stress, becoming an adult, and nostalgia, it also touches upon the issue of originality. The understanding between the lead singer, Tyler Joseph, and the listeners is reached with the help of the themes, the tone, and the narrative of the song. From the very first lines Tyler tries to adapt to the world built by musicians, but remain true to himself nonetheless. By saying "I wish I found some better sound no one's ever heard" (1:1), Mr. Joseph highlights the fact that it is very difficult to invent something new nowadays. He further develops this topic by talking about chords in a song. However, it is not just the melody that he is concerned with, but also the lyrics and the way they should sound. The narrator is insecure and doesn't believe that who he is at the moment is good enough for the audience he is looking for. "I wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sing" (1:4) introduces the notion that he has to act within certain preset ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He sings "I was told, when I get older, all my fears would shrink/But now I'm insecure, and I care what people think" (1:5,6) and we finally realize how scared he is. He is very self–aware, and other people's opinions are important to him, which makes it difficult to be who he really is or who he aspires to be. The drummer, Josh Dun, once stated in an interview, "We try to be as honest as we can, even at the risk of not appearing to be super cool" (Catlin, 25). The fact that "Stressed Out", as many other songs by Twenty One Pilots, goes against the accepted norms is probably one of the best examples that confirms Mr. Dun's statement. The passage from Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison describes Milkman's confrontation with his mother, Ruth, at the cemetery. Before, Macon has convinced Milkman to be disgusted of Ruth because of Ruth's supposed affair with her father and Ruth's nature as a sexual deviant. One day, Milkman follows Ruth to see with his own eyes the proof that Ruth is a sexual deviant, and Milkman is led to the cemetery. Milkman confronts Ruth whom reveals that she did not have an affair with her father. Ruth says, "No. But I did kneel there in my slip at his bedside and kiss his beautiful fingers," which contradicts Macon's account of what happened. Ruth, fully clothed, only kissed the hands of her mother. Ruth did not strip naked and kiss her father on the mouth like Macon said. Then, Milkman points out Ruth's nursing of ... Lena has had enough of catering to Milkman and Milkman pissing on everyone. Lena and Corinthian has slaved away for Milkman's comfort without a single thank you, and they developed a strong sisterly bond as a result. • 25. How Does Toni Morrison Use Names In Song Of Solomon Macon Dead, Pilate, Reba, Hagar, First Corinthians, Milkman, Circe and Guitar. Toni Morrison, author of Song of Solomon, has a greater purpose for using these unique names. From the onset of the novel, Morrison's use of names is significant and deliberate throughout the text. For instance, Not Doctor Street, originally named Mains Street acknowledging the only black doctor the city allowed, hints at the social tensions between black and white people in this society. Additionally, the name "Blood Bank" was chosen to describe a rough part of the city. Morrison uses this name to expose the differing social classes and racism that exists in the town. In addition to physical places, Morrison also picked the names of each character intentionally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the onset on the novel, Morrison is able associate Guitar with the theme of unattainability through the ""...contest, in a store down home in Florida" (45). Guitar "saw [the guitar] when [his] mother took [him] downtown with her. [He] was just a baby...[he] cried for it, they said. And always asked about it" (45). Guitar's name originates from this very event in his childhood. In addition to that fact that Guitar is simply unable to obtain the guitar he desires, Morrison displays the unattainability of the guitar by explaining "It was one of those things where you guess how many beans in the big glass jar and you win a guitar" (45). This game adds an additional barrier between Guitar and the guitar in the store because it makes the guitar appear as a "trophy" to winning the contest. This connects to the idea of contest and athletics as people compete with the attentions of winning or obtaining money, trophies, or pride. Just like how the death of his own father makes him unattainable Guitar choses to go to war with racism. Guitar notices racism present in society "...When a Negro child, negro woman, or negro man is killed by whites and nothing is done about it by their low and their courts..." (154). Guitar tries to end racism and reach equality be joining the Seven Days Society which "...selects a similar victim at random, and they execute him or her in a similar manner if they can" (154). Morrison uses her major theme of racism to show the significance of Guitar's name as he joins the Seven Days Society attempting to reach justice by killing white people when they kill other black people. Morrison shows that Guitar is fighting in an unwinnable war; Guitar keeps fighting anyways (1). Deeper in the novel, Guitar's "...commitment to political justice goes awry: in seeking a death for Hagar's death, presumably, Guitar "sacrifices" the innocent Pilate. Her ... These types of songs can seem upbeat and happy, but that is just the music playing behind the lyrics. The music in these songs are written in a major key which make the song sound lively and cheerful. Even with the darkest meaning behind the lyrics, the music can give off different perspectives. Many people believe that love songs are about love but in reality some of those songs have a depressing story behind them. Many love songs are not love songs at all if one examines the lyrics. In fact the song "It will rain" by Bruno Mars is a clear example of a love song with a complete different meaning to it than love. The verse " if you ever leave me baby leave some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One last thing he says is "I can't feel my face when I'm with you, but I love it." This refers to the state of being wasted or high. He loves the emotions and feeling he gets when he is doing these drugs. Furthermore, another example of a song with a darker meaning would be "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men. This song is another example of many songs that don't quite refer to love. For instance this song without paying close attention to the lyrics is a conversation between two people that love each other. In reality it's an illusion a woman is having with a supposed man as stated in the verse, "I miss our little talks." As the song continues the woman gives of a hint when the song reads, "you're gone, gone, gone away... Just let me go, we'll meet again soon." This verse foreshadows that the woman is slowly getting lost in mental illness after the death of her partner. That's why her illusions are fulfilling that empty space that her partner left behind when he died. Many artists write songs that can be interpreted in many different ways, and the songs stated above are not an exception to this rule. Taking a closer look at the lyrics and analyzing them can show a better meaning of what the artist is trying to tell the listener. Many artists try to conceal a hidden message in their songs to hide their darkest secrets to prevent a bad reputation against them. With the different songs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout this novel, however, he is known by all except his father as Milkman because his mother breastfed him until he was in his teens. The novel centers on Milkman's attempt to find himself. His family is a wealthy black family living in a poor black neighborhood, where Milkman's father prohibits Milkman from interacting with most of them, including his aunt. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... _Song of Solomon_ in the Bible is about love, just as it is one of the most popular themes in Morrison's novel. Love is apparent in several ways throughout the novel, from Hagar's immoral, and eventually psychotic, love for her cousin, Milkman, (which eventually leads to Hagar's death), to the lack of love that leads Milkman's mother to habitually breast feed him, at least daily, for years just to get a small amount of pleasure. Morrison explains this by saying, "...he was old enough to be bored by the flat taste of mother's milk."(Morrison) Another way in which Morrison infuses a biblical connection into her works is through the naming of the children in the Dead family. When describing the names of the children she writes, "He had cooperated... with the blind selection of names from the Bible for every child other than the first born male. And abided by whatever the finger pointed to..." This is the reason for the naming of his other two children (Milkman, or Macon, being the first born male), Magdalene from Mary Magdalene, and First Corinthians, from "The Book of Corinthians." Besides the children of Macon Dead, there are other biblical allusions in the names of people. One of these is Hagar, Pilate's son and Milkman's cousin. Though the biblical Hagar is not well known, her character in the Bible reflects, in some ways, the character in Morrison's novel. In the bible, Hagar is Sarah's handmaiden. The first is an allusion to the biblical book "Song of Songs" or commonly know as "Song of Solomon" which is all about sexual themes and desires and that. The next meaning is a reference to the protagonist's great grandfather whose name was Solomon and had a song about him in which Solomon could fly and left his son Jake on the ground and inevitably to a white man's house. Major Themes Racism: Racism plays a very pivotal role in this work as it shapes a character thoroughly and even an entire group. When words are placed with music, it can change how a person hears or thinks of a song. In the song "Run" by George Strait he creates a feeling of desperation and longing not only with his lyrics, but also with the melody that goes along with it. Music is powerful, and it can change your attitude towards something just by the sound and tone of music. George Straits daughter was killed in a car crash in 1986 when she was just 13. When most people see this song they immediately think that it is a love song and in a way, it is, but I think that this could maybe not be a song addressed to a significant other but rather to his daughter. This could be a possibility in his intention for this song. Yes, the song may sound worldly when he is telling her how to get to him, but when he tells her "cut a path across the blue skies, straight in a straight line you can't get here fast enough." Maybe he is trying to talk to his daughter again and wants her to seemingly fly down from heaven to him so he can see her once more. This would also explain why he misses her so much, maybe it's his little girl who died who he is writing to. In many of his other songs George talks about Dallas and always sings about Dallas, perhaps in this song when he talks about her leaving Dallas to return to him he is thinking of Dallas as his form of heaven. So, he is begging his daughter to come from Dallas which is his representation of heaven, to come back to him if at all possible. This is the only variation I can think of for the lyrics: instead of the thought of it being toward his wife or lover it may be for his daughter who passed away in a car ... • 43. The True Language Of Love The True Language of Love When reading early British texts, readers often notice that two main themes are recurring within the stories and poems of the time. These themes are love and religion; both of these were important within the culture. However, the readers may not realize that the language used in describing the two different themes is not different at all. In fact, the language of love and the language of religion are very similar, especially in medieval texts. Two texts that provide an excellent example of this type of language are Marie de France's Lanval and Margery Kempe's The Book of Margery Kempe. Comparing the language used in these works with the biblical book Song of Songs, it is clear that the language used in the texts of the medieval period doubles as both religious and romantic. Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon, is a book of the bible that focuses on Christ's love for his people. Within the book, Christ is portrayed as the bridegroom and Christians as his bride. According to Vivian de Sola Pinto, the book is the nuptial song of King Solomon and his Egyptian Bride, but is also an allusion to "the Love Union and Communion between Christ and the church", and even further, "Christ and every believing soul (Pinto)." Using this explanation, not only is the language in this biblical book different from the other books of the Bible, but also it blends the language of love and the language of religion. Perhaps more than even giving the reader a clue about what is to come, Morrison gives readers this scene in an attempt to pique interest in the meaning of words. Perhaps Morrison is showing readers that just because a word has meant one thing in the past, it is not precluded from taking on other meanings as well. For the readers of Song, that is exactly what happens. In Morrison's story, the name Pilate loses its original meaning of Christ killer and gains the meaning of one who has control of the direction of her life. Pilate is a seeker. She asks, "What do I need to know to stay alive?" and "What is true in the world?" (149). Dominant culture might only need to ask about truth. Minority culture asks about survival. Because of her gift for penetrating to the heart of her own experience, Pilate becomes a person who can guide others. The most prominent of all the uses of biblical names in the story is the title itself, Song of Solomon. Throughout the novel, a non–minority reader, recalling the biblical Song of Songs or Song of Solomon as the title is often translated in English Bibles, has the image before them of sensual love poetry. However, a reader who, because of the title, is expecting a sensual love story will be wondering how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Twenty One Pilots Most of the songs you hear on the radio nowadays are upbeat songs about relationships, love, and partying it up. While most of these songs have a catchy tune and a nice beat, the lyrics can sometimes be unrealistic or hard to relate to; we connect to the beat but not to the meaning behind the words. This is not always a bad thing, but sometimes it can be refreshing to listen to a song that hits close to home or that you can relate to your own life or experiences you have gone through. One artist that does an incredible job of expressing extremely relatable and important subjects and meaning through his music is singer/songwriter Tyler Joseph. He does not limit himself to any specific style and because of this his work does not fall under any specific category. An unusual characteristic of his songs that makes his music even more eclectic is the fact that they are poetry based, which leads to a unique combination of rapping and singing (and sometimes even yelling) that allows him to express his emotions through vocals. Gloria K. Fiero writes, "The strong association between poetry and music suggests that the human voice [has] a significant influence in both melody and rhythm" (58). The voice of the singer is what gives the song that distinct twist that sets it apart from others, and if the song is originally written as a poem it gives the artist the freedom to interpret and express the lyrics however they see is best fit. • 53. Drake's Song Too Good Drake's song "Too Good" is, in many ways an amazing work of art. Two amazing artists– Drake and Rhianna– sing this song. While listening to a song there are a few criteria's that should be followed and those are: rhythm, meaning, and voice, in which all are met in this song. First, lets discuss the rhythm that takes place in this song in particular. According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary, rhythm is defined as "a regular, repeated pattern of sounds or movements." In this song the rhythm is consistent and has a catchy beat. Since the songs style is labeled as "contemporary hip–hop" the rhythm properly corresponds with it by using many instruments, which make up the pattern of sounds that are heard in the background of the singers. Rhythm is very important in a music piece because its one of the first things that catches the audiences attention. In addition to rhythm being important criteria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary the definition of voice is "the ability to sing." This is probably the most important criterion because an audience doesn't want to listen to a song that contains a horrible voice. This song is a perfect example of two amazing voices. Drake, a famous hip–hop and rap artist, and Rhianna, another famous hip–hop artist, sing this song as a duet. Their voices fit perfectly in this song because they both have a serious tone in their voice to relate with the situation the song is addressing. For example, this song couldn't be sang by two singers that have a high pitch happy voices because the message that is being portrayed is more of a serious tone rather than a happy tone; therefore, these two singers voices fit the part very well. Overall, the song "Too Good" by Drake and Rhianna is met extremely well with the three criteria's of rhythm, meaning, and voice. Scott Fitzgerald About two thirty that afternoon, up pulls Willie and he almost fell as he was getting out of his truck; one, because it had not come to a complete stop yet and two, because he was as drunk as a skunk and trying to do a two–step as soon as his boots hit the ground. He was toting a toy popgun and my Little Marcus' eyes lit up like a Christmas tree as he squealed with delight when his uncle Willie picked him up and threw him into the air like he always did, especially when he was about drunk or in a good mood. However, this time he almost dropped Marcus and it severely pissed me off. It was all I could do not to give him a good cussing, but in order to once again, keep the peace I bit my tongue and avoided him until he left. I was hoping that everything would go smoothly, but that, too, was not about to happen. Lacey had already told me that he'd been gone and had only been home once since grandma Mattie's funeral the past Wednesday... I was wondering what had a hold of him so strong that he would stay away from home for so long; I supposed it was the blond that we'd seen him with at the club. Willie left, saying he was heading home, but he didn't take Lacey and his young 'uns with him, which struck me as strange, but just the same, things were settling down a little bit after he left. Then, just about the time we were getting ready to leave my mama's and go home, my crazy ass oldest sister Pearl and her on again off again boyfriend, Boo Clark showed up. Both of them were ... She wrote this song about a woman that has been cheated on and decides to stand up for herself and be strong. In this example, she is basically telling us as listeners a story of what was said and what happened. However, this continues during the entire song. The story that she is telling during the whole duration of the song is that she caught her boyfriend cheating on her. She then decided to kick him out of her home and refused to listen to anything he had to say in case he tried to change her mind. She also says, "Standing in the front yard, tellin' me I'm such a fool, how I'll never find another you" (Lines 11through 13). In this line of the story of her song she is saying how he's calling her a fool basically and telling her he cannot be replaced and this in itself is a form of abuse. However, she stands up to him and basically tells him that she could have a new boyfriend as soon as he leaves the house if she wants to. Hyperbole is also used in this song. Throughout this song she seems to exaggerate more than she should but in particular places she uses over exaggeration such as in the line, "It's my name that's on that jag, so come move your bags, and let me call you a cab" (Lines 9, 10). In this line you can hear how she overly exaggerates the words and stresses them to the point that it stands out. • 59. Sour Patch Kids Music is an aspect of every culture that is used to connect its people and bring the group together. Essentially, every culture has their own unique genre of music. The question of "what is good music," is an intriguing one because the answer to this question varies from culture to culture. Even within a culture, the musical preferences change based on the individual. For this "What is good music" project, I chose the song "Sour Patch Kids," by Bryce Vine, because this song exemplifies a few things that I look for when determining good music. I first found this song a couple of summers ago, when my friend Joey showed it to me. Instantly, I became a fan of this song and a fan of Bryce Vine's music. I chose to use this song instead of his other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start off, I really enjoy the beat that Bryce uses on this track. This song features an upbeat rhythm, and the lyrics compliment the beat. The entire song is supposed to deliver a nostalgic feel to the listener. Throughout the song, He incorporates popular themes from his childhood into the lyrics, and the music video features these themes throughout. For me, I think the nostalgic theme works well with this song. It provides a happy, carefree feeling to the listener. When I listen to this song, it personally brings back feeling and memories from the summer I was shown it. Because of this, I believe the nostalgic theme of the song is a good fit. Another reason this is good music is because of the lyrics. These lyrics break away from the typical stereotype that is expected from rap/hip–hop music. It seems that recently, few popular songs have lyrics with meaning. Most feature lyrics that will appeal to the masses to sell the most records. This is where Bryce Vine differentiates himself from these artists. His lyrics share stories and experiences from his life, and are very personalized for the listener. I recently went to one of his concerts he had in East Lansing, and when he performed Sour Patch Kids, the entire crowd was singing along, and was brought together. This experience exemplifies what Bryce Vine's music is all about; connecting people and delivering quality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. The Importance Of Names In Song Of Solomon People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family member. The reader is introduced to multiple characters with biblical names, which correspond to the characters' personalities. In the book Song of Solomon, the characters take on the role of their biblical names. Reba, Milkman's mother, can most closely be associated with Rebecca from the Bible, as their names are nearly identical. In the Bible, Rebecca is known for her loyalty and devotion to her son Jacob, whom she favors over her other son, Esau. She willingly ruins her relationship to one of her sons and also her husband, Isaac, both of which she loves dearly. No love, my love, that thou mayst true love call–All mine was thine before thou hadst this more." The preceding poem, written by William Shakespeare, tells of a lover wanting to give all their love to their lover. Similarly, the writer of Songs of Solomon tells of giving all the love to their lover. Through this writing, different aspects of the Songs will be addressed, along with the defense of the various forms of the Songs. Finality will show how the Songs fit with the church of today. Song of Solomon – Brief list of the different ways the Song is Interpreted Kathryn Harding, "Biblical Interpretation, 'I sought him but I did not find him': The Elusive Lover in the Song of Songs,'" sources several scholars regarding the Songs of Solomon. These sources give an insight into their interpretation of the Songs. One source focuses on the male lead of the Song and the aspect of power from Cheryl Exum who discussed, "the male protagonist's concerns about the power dynamics between himself and his lover in the Song; in her totality he finds her overwhelming, even intimidating, and so he fragments her, considers her little–by–little, piece–by– piece, in his waṣfs." Subsequently, another source emphasizes how can one have sexual intimacy if they are apart from one another. This is referenced from the writing by Edward Burne–Jones who states: After all, like ... As research is done further, into the bible, the title refers to a book from the Old Testament. A major theme of the book in the bible is love. It is about honor and loyalty. This is similar to the theme of love and protection in the book by Toni Morrison. Three female characters that portray this best are: Pilate, Ruth, and Magdalene called Lena. In the book, they are women that try to protect the people they love from men in their family. In the bible, they hold similar roles of devotion to those that they love. In Song of Solomon, Pilate is a strong–willed and independent woman. The reason that Ruth goes to her, is to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the bible, Ruth has a chance to go and protect herself and find a husband, but she stays with her mother in law. She has a chance to help herself, but she does the honorable thing and stays with Naomi (Ruth 1:10–14). Even though Pilate is seen as very powerful, she cannot always protect everything that is precious to her. She attempts to help Hagar and prevent her from killing Milkman (129). Pilate loves both Hagar and Milkman and tries to protect them both. Despite her efforts Hagar cannot be controlled. She tries numerous times to hurt Milkman and does not stop until her death. Pilate knows that Hagar is slowly hurting herself and can only be stopped by Milkman, but she cannot make Hagar understand (130). Hagar is so demented that she kills herself because of her obsession. In the bible, Pilate is also ambiguous about what to do. He knows that Jesus is innocent, but he also knows that it will bring him trouble if he disobeys the people ( John 19:12). Not much attention is given to Magdalene called Lena, but she is always seen as the quiet caregiver that holds things together and protects. When Milkman was young, Lena took care of him when no one else would (34–5). When she sees that her sister is being hurt, she goes to confront those that cause the pain (214–6).
