3. Basic Introduction
• What is Manufacturing Process?
→ The Tranforms raw materials in to different forms that went in to
them different forms called Manufacturing.
Process has different maeaning in different field as a verb process
mean doing the things to material that will produce product.
* Manufacturing Process define as process of
conversely raw material in to products
encompass the design and manufacturing of
good using verious method , techniques like
man, Machine and Money
4. Importance Of Manufacturing
The term may refer to range of human activity, from
handicraft to high tech, but is most commonly applied to
industrial production in which raw material are
transformed into finished goods on latge scale.
Such finished goods may be used for manufacturing.
Product such as aircraft, household applieances, or sold
to wholesalers, who in turn sell them to retailers.
Manufacturing takes turns under all types of economic
systems.
In free market economy, manufacturing is usually
directed toward the mass production of product for sale
to consumers at a profit.
In mixed market economics, manufacturing occurs under
some degree of government regulation.
5. Importance Of Manufacturing
The manufacturing sector is closely conneted with
engineering and industrial design.
*Examples*
- Examples of major manufactures in north america
include general motors corp. General Electric,
precicion cast parts.
According to some economics , manufacturing is a
wealth-producing sector of economy, whereas a
services sector tends to be wealth-consuming.
Manufacturing provides important material support
for nation infrastructure and national defence.
6. Classification & Selection of the
manufacturing process
1. Basically Used in engineering industries
a) Change the physical properties of the work material
b)Change the shape and size of work piece.
c) Produce desired Dimensional accuracy and surface
finish.
2. Based on nature of work involved processes
a) Casting process
b) shearing & forming Processes
c) Fabrication processes
d) Joinning Processes
e) Primary Metal Working Processes
f) Machining Processes
g) Surface finishing processes
7. Casting Processes
• Casting is primary manufacturing processe in
which a solid is melted, heated to proper temp.
and is then poured into cavity or mould, which
contains it In the proper shape during
Solidification.
• Choosing Casting: shaping such as machining,
forging,welding,stamping,etc.
*Reason: Good bearing qualities .
- strength and lightness in certain light metal
alloys.
- uniform properties from direction standpoint,
9. Shearing and Forming Processes
• Forming as is defined by DIN 8580 As
manufacturing through the three dimesional or
plastic modification of a shape while retainning
its mass and material structure.
• In contrast to deformation, forming is the
modification of shape with controlled geometry.
• In this process the metal is heated to temp.
below solidus temp. and at the same time large
force is applied on the heated metals such that
the metal flows perpendicular to the applied
force and takes desired shapes.
11. Fabrication processes
* Manufactured as single unit they are
manufactured as different component are
assembled to get product.
• Joining processes are widely used in fabrication.
• Example: welding, brazing, soldering, fastening,
press fitting.etc.
• In these processes two or more pieces of metal
parts are joined together to product desired
shape and size of the product.
13. Material Removal Processes
* The processes of removing the undesired or
unwanted material from work piece or job or
component to product a required shape using
cutting tools.
