Henri Fayol proposed 14 principles of management that are still relevant today. The principles include division of work, authority, discipline, unity of command, unity of direction, subordination of individual interests, remuneration, centralization or decentralization, scalar chain, order, equity, stability of tenure, initiative, and esprit de corps. Fayol believed that effective management requires focusing work, maintaining authority and discipline, moving the organization towards common goals, prioritizing organizational over individual interests, balancing centralization and decentralization of decision making, treating employees fairly and keeping productive employees.
