2. What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a set of skills that reveal the kind of
communication that matters most – on the inside and out.
3. NLP is about:
• How the human brain works.
• How people think, learn, motivate themselves and change.
• A model of competent, charismatic communication.
• A how-to process to guide personal change.
4. For many, it’s
clarifying to offer
a definition of NLP
by showing what
we mean by the
words neuro,
linguistic,and
programming.
5. NLP is the other 93% of communication between people.
6. Most people don’t realize that communication is made of so much
more than interactions between people. There exists an entire world of
communication within your mind and body. Inner life – your mindset,
attitude, and feelings – is an active form of communication.
7. There are 4 best NLP books which:
• Demonstrate how NLP is used in a variety of settings.
• Are professionally written.
• Applicability: these NLP books give you some idea how to use NLP.
• Don’t sell magic to take advantage of people.
8. Frogs Into Princes by Bandler and
Grinder
Written when NLP was in the beginning
stages of establishment, this book captures
the absolute essence of Neuro-Linguistic
Programming as described by the founding
fathers, Richard Bandler and John Grinder.
Though it contains some of the more
complicated techniques and processes, it is
easily understandable and should be read by
anyone with an interest in the subject.
Reading purpose: To capture the atmosphere
of early NLP seminars and the attitude with
which they worked, mixed with a glimpse of
the early methods.
Writing style: Seminar transcripts. This book
is not written in a typical fashion, with one
concept logically flowing after another – it’s
a snapshot of a live event.
10. NLP: The Essential Guide by Susan Sanders
and Tom Dotz
Created by three NLP Master
Practitioners, this newer NLP book helps
readers apply NLP techniques to real life
scenarios. By reading real stories, you’ll
be able to use their knowledge to develop
your own NLP strategies.
Reading Purpose: Introduction to
NLP/Overview
Writing Style: Casual, clear and
straightforward, mix of concepts,
methods and stories.
12. The Big Book of NLP (Expanded)
The Big Book of NLP is a precisely
written encyclopedia of NLP techniques
and how they may be applied. With
many techniques that are usually only
talked about at expensive NLP
seminars, this book contains a vast
amount of information that cannot be
found anywhere else.
Reading Purpose: Reference for NLP
practitioners
Writing Style: No explanations or
stories. This is just a list of techniques
and their steps.
14. NLP: The New Technology of
Achievement by Steve Andreas and
Charles Faulkner
NLP can be utilized to solve many
different problems, as well as
achieve goals. This book lays out a
21-day plan to help you achieve your
goals, and outlines the keys to
unlimited success in your personal
and professional life, using NLP.
16. Who can benefit from NLP?
Coaches, doctors, nurses, executives, lawyers, managers, sales-people,
ministers, and therapists to name just a few have all joined the growing
ranks of “NLP’ers.” If your work or business requires skills in effective
communication, you will immensly benefit from studying NLP. You will also
discover how quickly training in NLP can dramatically maximize your
potential and improve your performance in any desired area of life.
17. Manipulation in NLP
Psychological manipulation is a type of
social influence that aims to change the
behavior or perception of others
through indirect, deceptive, or
underhanded tactics. By advancing the
interests of the manipulator, often at
another's expense, such methods could
be considered exploitative and devious.
18. How do you know if someone is
using NLP on you?
The moment someone's matching your
posture - they're doing NLP. When
someone uses visual language
and you happen to be visual - they're
doing NLP. When they associate a gesture,
a move, a touch with a specific state
(called 'anchoring') - they're
doing NLP. When someone uses hypnotic
language - they're doing NLP.
19. How to Work with a Manipulative Person?
• First, be skeptical about receiving too much
special attention. Manipulators don't usually
show their true colors at the beginning of a
relationship. ...
• Second, be willing to risk small public
confrontations. ...
• Third, refuse to keep secrets or to act as
interpreter in ways that normalize
underhanded behavior.
20. Integrity in NLP
When you look integrity up in the dictionary, it was defined as:
“completeness, wholeness, moral soundness, uprightness. A site on the
internet was selling tee shirts that said, “Integrity is the opposite of
manipulation.”
Integrity’s a lot more than honesty and trustworthiness, although
certainly honesty is part of it and we do trust people who have
integrity.
21. Integrity is the characteristic of being integrated, of all of our lives reflecting a
core SELF.
Honesty is involved – that is, knowing ourselves and living out who we are,
rather than dishonestly “faking it” or lying. And we are more inclined to trust
people with integrity because we see that their behavior is consistent over time
and seems to be guided by some set of beliefs or habits. They seem to have
made a decision about where their moral center is, about who they are, about
who they feel called to be, about who they want to be.
22. The tee shirt about manipulation makes sense too: manipulation implies
being different to different people, splitting ourselves apart in order to
get what we want from others. If we do this, it becomes unclear where
our moral center lies. People will become unclear about who we will be
next, who our SELF is. Without integrity, we will be whoever we have to
be in order to get what we want or need.
23. Subtlety in NLP
Noun
- The quality or fact of being subtle.
- An instance of being subtle, a subtle thing, especially a subtle
argument or distinction.
- An ornate medieval illusion dish or table decoration, especially when
made from one thing but crafted to look like another.
