2. INTRODUCTION
It is important that we select the right costume, makeup and
props for our music video in order to convey the image and
meaning we want (see artist mood board).
In this piece of research I am going to study celebrities clothing,
jewellery and makeup in order to find common codes and
conventions for the representation I want to convey.
I will then be able to notice patterns and recurring features so I
can then select costume, makeup and jewellery to portray desired
physicality of my artist.
I will also research into potential props that will feature in the
music video and my process of obtaining them.
3. NICOLE SHERZIGER
Nicole wears bold but elegant dresses which are not too revealing, alluding to
class and sophistication. She still makes a bold statement but in a refined way.
Her makeup is simple and slick , for instance the precise black eyeliner flicks,
natural skin tone colouring (nothing too orange which appears tacky) and her
neat lipstick in both nude and red colours.
We aim to have our artists in a dress similar in shape to the purple one.
We will definitely use Nicole’s makeup as inspiration, especially the red and nude
lipsticks and cat wing inspired eyeliner.
4. JENNIFER LOPEZ
I could easily make links between Jennifer Lopez’s style and Nicole Sherzinger's.
For example both ladies wear formal unrevealing dresses that are neutral/block
colours. In this instance, Jennifer is wearing mainly beige and white.
Jennifer pairs her dresses with diamond jewellery and silver eye makeup which
has royal connotations. Again, she has slick black eyeliner and a nice natural skin
tone. We were inspired to mimic parts of this look , especially the nude lipstick
(like Nicole Sherzinger's) and the diamond earrings.
We can easily get some silver earrings that will look realistic.
5. EVA LONGORIA
Eva Longoria’s style in my opinion is again similar to Nicole and Jennifer’s.
She wears elegant off the shoulder dresses in red, white and light pink which are common
colours for the look we want to achieve. She has stunning hair updos which expose her
long earrings. She has clearly defined eyeliner and the recurring red and nude lipsticks.
Her face is again a natural tone and her clothing is not too revealing.
6. PROPS
The Throne
Our male performer is required to sit on a throne like chair in our music video. We
went on a hunt to find a suitable chair that we could number one use and secondly
transport around London.
We visited the drama department at our sixth form as we found out they had various
props they used for shows. We took a look at some of the chairs they had but none
of them seemed to fit the image we had painted in our minds of a grand throne like
seat with gold and an intricate pattern.
One of our group members mentioned that she had an old grand chair in her garage
which she was happy for us to use for shooting (shown in the two images).
The neutral colours are ideal and the gold/silver framing is quite royal. Even though
the lining is a bit tatty/worn it won’t matter when we are filming because our actor
will be sitting on it and therefore cover it up.
