Questionnaire Analysis Reveals Target Horror Film Audience
1. Questionnaire Analysis
Question 1 asked respondents their age and gender.
The results show that nearly all the respondents fit
in to the age bracket of 16-20. This informs me that I
chose the correct age for my target audience as they
were the dominant group to be interested in my
questionnaire. Also they was an even split in the
genders of the respondents which shows that my
trailer should be aimed at both males and females.
Question two asked participants what their
favourite genres of film were. 70% of the
participants said that horror films were their
favourite genre, as well as comedy. This
explains why my target audience mostly
watch Slasher films, as they occasionally have
aspects of comedy. This tells me that my film
should perhaps have slight aspects of comedy
to appeal to my target audience
I asked my respondents how often they go to the
cinema. The majority of the respondents appear go
quite regularly, with 45% going monthly and 35% going
every 2-5 months. This shows that my trailer will reach
my target audience through cinema promotion.
However, other methods of promotion such as via
social media will be necessary.
Question four was do you watch horror films.
80% of the respondents said yes. This shows
that 80% of the responses from my
questionnaire are from true representatives
2. of my target audience and can be used to help create
my promotional package.
Question Five asked respondents to state what their
favourite sub-genre was and why. As expected, the
majority of participants said Slasher was their
favourite sub-genre. The most common reason for
Slashers being the best is that they’re the scariest,
the most entertaining and the most relatable which
makes them scarier. Respondents also stated that
Slashers are more action packed and because there’s
always jump scares.
Question Six asked respondents
how often they watch horror
films. The results showed 95% of
the respondents watch horror
films regularly so would be likely
to watch my horror film.
I asked what it is the respondents liked the most
about horror films. The most common responses
were the tension they create, the jump scares, the
adrenaline and the action. I will have to ensure that
my trailer features a clear build-up of tension, lots of
action and jump scares to draw in the target
audience.
Question 8 asked respondents to state their
favourite horror films and why. The most
common response was Scream, because it was
original and kept them guessing. Halloween,
Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street were
also common responses. This tells me that my
film should follow a classic Slasher storyline as
these are the most popular.
3. Question nine asked respondents how often
they buy or read film magazines. 60% stated
they occasionally read film magazines, with
40% never buying them. This could be due to
the fact that the magazine industry is declining,
with teenagers being the least likely to buy
magazines.
The final question asked respondents which
made trailers the most effective. As expected,
Jump Scares was the most popular answer, with
80% choosing Jump Scares. Music, Fast Cuts
and Action were also common. I will ensure
that these 4 features will be used efficiently in
my trailer.
