Section B – Contemporary Media Issues Postmodern Media – film / TV / video games Choice of 2 questions Answer 1 only 1 hour to write answer – at least 4 sides Answers must focus on at least 2 media Answers must refer to the past, the present and predict for the future

G325: Critical perspectives This is a very hard exam - ‘Stretch and Challenge’ Be exam smart – learn the rules, play the game Exams are a giant competition – you are ‘playing’ 13000 other students Wolverhampton is the rump of the educational world – being one of the best here is nowhere near good enough Listen carefully to the Senior Examiner in the room – many students got As and Bs in this unit last year – this was no accident

5. Contemporary Media Issues: postmodern media There will be two questions from each topic area. One question to be answered. The topic areas require understanding of contemporary media texts, industries, audiences and debates. Through specific case studies of texts, debates and research, candidates must prepare to demonstrate understanding of the contemporary issue. This understanding must combine knowledge of at least two media and a range of texts, industries, audiences and debates.

To develop answers to the four prompt questions from the specification we are going to primarily focus on the media of film , TV and videogames We will work through a range of case studies – these will centre around engagement with texts in the classroom, but will also mean that there is much thinking, reading and writing to be done both inside and outside of the classroom Case study texts - Scary Movie 4, The Wire, Extras, Call of Duty, SingStar, Red Dead Redemption, Be Kind Rewind, Back to the Future 3, Coronation Street, Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, GTA4, Pulp Fiction, British General Election debates
