The best approach to starting a biochar business is to form a cooperative to pool resources and educate local communities about the product.

Biochar is a porous charcoal-like substance produced from biomass that has benefits for agriculture and the environment. It can sequester carbon from the atmosphere, reducing CO2 levels, while enhancing soil quality when used as a soil amendment. Biochar increases plant growth and nutrient density, decreases fertilizer needs, and reduces fertilizer runoff into waterways. Small-scale production is suitable but larger operations could utilize bio-oil byproducts for energy and upgrade them into industrial and transportation fuels. Ongoing studies are testing biochar's effects on plant growth.

speaking to a sales agent; at the airport where customers make reservations and pay for and print tickets without the help of
an agent; and at the bank, where ATMs have long replaced tellers for most transactions. But a backlash is coming, experts
predict. Some say that people are more isolated than they used to be in the days of face-to-face service, and they question
how much time people are really saving if they have to continually learn new processes, operate new machines, and over-
come new glitches. Labor-saving technologies were supposed to liberate people from mundane tasks, but it appears that
these technologies are actually shifting some tasks to the customer. On the other hand, many people like the convenience of
using these self-service systems, especially because it means customers can visit a bank for cash or order books or gifts from
an online retailer 24 hours a day. Does this mean the end of "doing business the old-fashioned way"? Will this put a burden
on the elderly or the poor when corporations begin charging for face-to-face services?40

What if your favourite apps turned into little machines? What makes physical objects more emotionally engaging than apps? How do we connect to them through our natural senses and cognitive abilities?
Together with 20 students we broke down some of our favourite apps to their elementals and re-imagined them as physical machines. We examined aspects of experience which can bring us closer to the services we use every day.
How? With a few short hands-on exercises, we explored the jobs-to-be-done behind popular apps. Quick prototypes and scenarios of how these might exist as machines helped us to uncover what a new design field of the future looks like.
