The photo that I have chosen to reflect on depicts me sitting on a large green chair
with my brother. I was anywhere from five to eight, and he was around eleven or
thirteen. He is looking out of frame and has one of those old CD players from the
nineties in his lap, his hands hovering over its silver hardware, frozen in a hesitant
stance. He looks entertained, or maybe just distracted. He has what my familycalls his
Harry Potter glasses perched somewhat low on his nose, and true to the late nineties
and early 2000scommon style, his black hair is spiked up. Beside him is me, in a
light shirt, wearing the thin headphones that accompanied the CD player in his lap.

brother, Jackson, is six or seven years older than I am. He is rather quiet and

It also raised awareness that the very same acts done by heterosexual couples were
acceptable, and not punishable in the confines of the home, but that gays were not
even safe in private. After the decision in Lawrence v Texas made by the U.S.
Supreme Court, it was understood that the gay community had a chance to move
forward into the light even more, and that their fight for freedom would not disappear.
By declaring that it is unconstitutional to make arrests against gays in the home, it
also declared that homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else. It made
it more acceptable and brought homosexuality into the light to where it was okay to
talk about and dispute. Not only was it just an invasion of liberty, as the Court
thought , but also the case enforced a bad law, a Homosexual Status Law, which
made being gay a crime.

different task like, rock climbing, canoeing, and simply just making their own
meals. All of these task will help the women learn the importance of their
responsibility for their self and can share with others in the group. All of these
women work together to overcome the violence that they have been a part of in new
ways, besides sitting in an office with a counselor. This can help them learn that you
do not always have to go and talk everything through, you can simply just go out into
the wilderness and work together to overcome this.

In the days of the vikings, many stories were told. They were told in a song like
fashion, and were recited to young warriors and children. The most famous of these
was the epic poem Beowulf . It is a tale of a young hero named Beowulf, who goes

and chooses to fight the first monster he encounters, Grendel, with his bare hands.
After Grendel was defeated, the mother of Grendel attacks, but he has to go into her
territory to fight. He almost dies, but completely slays both Grendel and his mother.

becoming a role model, which is what he always wanted. Being a role model in an
Anglo Saxon community, is the ultimate goal of any warrior. Beowulf, being the

instance, in his first encounter with evil, he acts confident for the people watching to

Overall, the Epilogue of the play reintroduces central ideas and symbols of the
entire work such as the importance of theory in regard to change and progression,
interconnectedness, and angels. Specifically, the idea of the importance of theory
in regard to change and progression can be seen during the conversation about the
Russians between Hannah, Louis, and Belize. Earlier on, it was argued that change
should not take place without a plan, and that making progress without a theory
could have disastrous consequences. However, in the epilogue, it is now argued
that, while you need a theory for change, you can t halt progress just because you
lack a plan. This can be seen by Hannah s statement, You can t wait for a theory, but
you have to have a theory (Kushner 278), showing that reasons are needed for
change, but change shouldn t be stopped because those reasons aren t clear yet....
However, this time, interconnectedness refers more to how certain aspects of life

The desire to belong in society is so strong, that many problems arise out of it s

ABSTRACT: According to Marx, at any given epoch of a given society, [there is] a
quantity of necessaries [recognized as] the necessaries of life habitually required by
the average worker. The variations in the type and amount of goods recognized as
necessary for life between different epochs and different societies is due to the
different physical conditions and to the different degrees of civilization and comfort
prevalent. In advanced capitalist societies, the necessities of life include a heated
dwelling, food, clothing, and access to some means of transportation, be it public or

necessaries of life but to a variety of luxury items as well. For example, the average
worker has access to at least some subset of the following luxury items: fine food
and drink; an automobile; a television set; a hi fi set.
In this paper, I will (I) explain Marx s theory of the nature of capitalist exploitation;
and (II) indicate how the phenomenon described in the previous paragraph may be
interpreted as evidence against Marx s theory, and sketch an interpretation of this
phenomenon according to which it is consistent with Marx s theory. My
interpretation will suggest that the average worker s access to luxury items can be
explained by the necessity in capitalism of reproducing the working class.
(I) In some of his early works, Marx suggests that the poverty of the workers goes
hand in hand with capitalist production. For example, in Alienated Labor he claims
that in capitalist society, labor produces marvels for the wealthy but it produces
deprivation for the worker (61). Indeed, so much does the realization of labor appear
as diminution [of the worker] that the worker is diminished to the point of starvation
(61).

Manorialism was a part of feudalism and supported it. Peasants were very important
on the manor. Peasants lived on and farmed the manor s land. In return for the
work, lords would protect the peasants and gave them a share of land to grow their
crops (Cels 4). Peasants that did not own any land would be hired by lords or
peasants who were in better condition than them to work for them on the land (Cels

animal, a study showed that the adults participating in this project experienced a
