Why the Battle of the Somme is Regarded as a Great...
Why the Battle of the Somme is Regarded as a Great Military Tragedy On 1st July 1916,
General Haig prepared the battle plan for an offensive on German lines, designed to relieve the
strain on French forces at Verdun and break through a strong line of German defences. While
Haig would have preferred an attack further north, he was hopeful that the operation should be
successful in drawing forces away from Verdun and killing as many German troops as possible
as part of the war of attrition . The location was the Somme River. The details were worked out by
General Haig and his deputy, General Rawlinson. The focus of the battle plan was a huge artillery
bombardment, backed up by mines, collapsed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strength of German defences was also underestimated, seeing as the Germans had been in
place since 1914 and had set about placing their dug outs deep underground and fortifying them
with concrete. The barbed wire had been stretched out more than thirty metres wide, making it
almost impossible to penetrate, regardless of artillery. It was not only poor forward planning
that resulted in such terrible losses however. For example, the shells supplied to British forces
were not as Haig had envisaged, many of which were of low quality, or failed to go off at all.
Over confidence resulted in the offensive s first major flaw; it s timing. The infantry attack began
at 7.30 am on 1st July, rather than at dawn when no man s land would be covered in a thick mist
which would naturally make the task of the German gunner much more difficult. Such a time was
chosen by Commanders who were confident that there would be little, if any, resistance along the
German front. The attack began after the detonation of two huge mines placed under German lines,
the explosion of which could be heard in London. This, another flaw in scheme, only served to
inform German forces that an attack was coming. The assault consisted of twenty seven divisions,

The Five Forces Analysis Of Glanbia s Global Performance...
Rivalry among existing firms All the top nutrition businesses (Maximum Human Performance
(MHP), Universal Nutrition, CytoSport, MuscleTech) offer attractive prices for their premium
products. The sports nutrition business is highly competitive with many companies offering the
same range of products. Glanbia s Global Performance Nutritionbusiness comprises of three global
brands Optimum Nutrition, BSN and Isopure. What Glanbia s GPN business has done
effectively, since acquiring the companies, is it has created a strong brand image globally which
means it can offer higher prices for its products compared to weaker smaller companies. As there
is a huge growth in this market, GPN are able to grow and expand their business globally without
taking markets away from other competitors. Traditionally Glanbia s products were perishable
and needed to be sold quickly, but after diversifying their product range, their GPN products can
last for years and can sit on them products for longer to get their required price. As products of the
market leaders are so similar and switching costs are low for customers which results in... Show

However, as a general overview, the five forces analysis provides an excellent instrument to
examine the potential profit and market growth of an industry. As the by product of cheese is whey
and Glanbia one of the largest cheese processors in the world, it made perfect sense for Glanbia to
diversify their business into the area of Performance Nutrition. In 2003 Glanbia became the world s
largest supplier of whey protein isolate. Instead of selling all its whey protein to other Performance
Nutrition companies, Glanbia decided to try to make use of this valuable resource itself. Glanbia
acquired global performance companies such as Optimum Nutrition, BSN and Isopure so it could
produce its own Performance Nutrition products and move up the value

The media must have some sort of effect on people and the portrayal of other women always
resonated with me. I know that there are many people who claim that unrealistic appearances in
things like magazines cause an increase in eating disorders and low self esteem. The constant
strive for perfection has been evolving due to digital enhancements with programs such as
Photoshop or others that assist with photo editing. It is really easy to make things appear
completely changed from their natural looks. A lot of places are requiring acknowledgement of
alterations via disclaimers on advertisements. This prompts a debate for who has to concede
between what is considered artistic freedom and dangerous content. Technology also contributes
to the amount of media exposure people have now through the Internet and social media. These
are considered staples in the lives of many impressionable young people, so it could add pressure
to accept a new normal. I am also aware that the media is not full of solely negative imagery.
There are companies like Dove and Target who are utilizing advertisements to campaign for body
positivity. I know that many of these are geared toward young adults and teens, particularly
women, so I believe that there must be a connection between age and when these topics need to be
addressed. I recall from previous courses that the onset of eating disorders often occurs in the
preteen years, which may or may not be the precise demographic targeted by such

Rainer Maria Rilke Panther
In the vision that Rainer Maria Rilke pointed out in his poem Panther was describing a panther he
observed at the zoo that ended up being captured, in the cage looking tired , hopeless and very
weak , Rainer Maria Rilke describes in the poem about being a caged animal and not being set free
to move around in the natural habitat or environment .
Rainer Maria Rilke was considered to be the most significant poets in the German language,
Rilke was a Bohemian Australian poet , Rilke did not have a happy life as a child his mother lost
a daughter at only one week old and tried to bring her daughter life back through her son , which
she tried to dress him up as a female at his early young ages , the father ended up sending Rainer to

The words constantly passing bars (Rilke 1) forms the image of bars blurring past the panther;
the panther s vision has beheld the great quantity of bars for so long that it has grown so weary ,
it cannot hold/anything else (Rilke 2 3) . A thousand bars (Rilke, 4) further develops the imagery.
This large number is likely an exaggeration and it works to intensify the ideas of stress and
confinement .
The Panther despicts the picture of a panther being secured an enclosure and not being able to
roam around to have his freedom of opportunity. In the underlying period of the sonnet, Rainer
Maira Rilke says that despite the fact that the panther is a solid creature, it has been secured a
confined room and is denied its freedom
Rainer Maria Rilke , says that since the panther is tired to the point that he can t understand where
he is and can assume that there are just bars around him from all sides and he can t get out from
that point, regardless of how hard he attempts. He continues hovering in the cage believing that
some way or another he could get out and don t appear to will to get subdued.
It depicts how individuals see and are being seen by the outside world and tragically, those eyes

Racism And Sexism In Sula
Toni Morrison, a Nobel Laureate, is considered one of the foremost figures in contemporary
American fiction whose award winning novels have won her international acclaim. Toni
Morrison has earned a reputation as a gifted storyteller and masterful stylist who has created
haunting images of humans isolated by their failures in love and their problems with identity. In
her novels, she presents black women as subjects who try to cultivate positive identity in a very
hostile world. Morrison s black female characters challenge all the stereotypical negative images
which are associated with black women. Toni Morrison s Sula is a fine work of art, well planned
and well executed, without losing any human interest. Sula was well received critically. The novel

This is confirmed by bell hooks who argues that: Sexism and racism intensified and magnified the
sufferings and oppressions of black women (22). Nevertheless, for many African American
women, motherhood presents a symbol of power and is an empowering experience (Collins 132
7). Motherhood is also seen as the standard of womanhood (Christian, Black Feminist Criticism
76). And according to this standard, women should live their lives to sacrifice for others.
However, in Sula, Toni Morrison creates a strong female character who not only refuses the role
[the standard role assigned for a woman], she steps outside the caste of woman, beyond any class
or definition [and] insists on making herself (Christian, Black Feminist Criticism 76). Sula will not
surrender to the assigned role and she counts on her friendship bond with Nel because this bond
allows both Nel and Sula to fight against oppression; but the two women separate in their adulthood

The Political Community in Guatemala Essay
The Political Community
The social apartheid that exist in Guatemala separates Guatemala into two places and does not
allow the country to be united, both democratically socially. The indigenous population is separated
from opportunities. Without the minimal conditions, necessary for citizens to exercise their rights
in practice there is not citizenship and therefore no true democracy. New democratic institutions
must both address the anxiety existing among Ladinos and prove to be responsive to a sizeable
segment of the national community that has previously been excluded based on language and
ethnicity.
Authoritarian regimes which retain considerable power and the democratic transition is never fully

The administration made some progress on such issues as taking state responsibility for past human
rights cases, supporting human rights in international forums, and pressing labor rights reforms, but
it failed to show significant advances on combating impunity in past human rights cases, military
reforms, and legislation to increase political participation. The political balance was once again
disrupted in 2000 when allegations surfaced that the FRG had illegally altered legislation.
Following an investigation, the Supreme Court stripped those involved including President of
Congress and FRG chief Rios Montt of their legislative immunity to face charges in the case. At
roughly the same time, the PAN opposition suffered an internal split and broke into factions; the
same occurred in the ANN. Reforms essential to peace implementation still await legislative action.
The Accord on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples (the Indigenous Accord) was signed in
1995 as part of the peace accords. It contains commitments to constitutional reforms to promote and
respect certain indigenous peoples rights, mainly related to issues of cultural rights and identity,
participatory mechanisms, the role of indigenous authorities and customary law. Even with this
accord, conditions for indigenous women in particular continue to degenerate. Indigenous women
continue to be discriminated against and exploited stated by a Report on the Situation of
Indigenous Women by the Defensoria.

Emily Dickinson s Capitalization and Punctuation
The poetry of Emily Dickinson is one of the most recognizable of the 19th century. Dickinson s
poetry stands out because of its unconventional use of capitalization and punctuation. Her poems
contain capitalized words which are not normally capitalized. Her poems are noted for the frequent
use of the dash. Literary scholars have attempted to interpret Dickinson s unconventional
capitalization and punctuation. Some believe that it was merely part of Dickinson s penmanship
(Weisbuch 73). They therefore edit Dickinson s poetryand publish them in standardized form.
Others believe that the capitalization and punctuation were a conscious effort on Dickinson s part.
These scholars notice the little nuances of Dickinson s dashes, such as whether... Show more content

However, Dickinson is not consistent in her capitalization (Porter 140). She does not capitalize
every single noun. As demonstrated above, the word light is not capitalized. Furthermore,
Dickinson also capitalizes words which are not nouns, as seen in lines 4 6 of He fumbles at your
Soul . The word ethereal is an adjective, but Dickinson chooses to capitalize it.
He stuns you by degrees Prepares your brittle Nature For the Ethereal Blow
The capitalized words are the key words of the poem. They add weight to the lines, tipping the
balance of the poetic rhythm. The reader is invited to ponder over their meaning and significance
(Miller 59). The capitalization gives Dickinson s poems concreteness and symbolism (Miller 58).
The reader s attention is drawn to these capitalized words. They form an image in the reader s
mind. For example, in the first example, the capitalized words are Slant, Winter, Afternoons, Heft,
Cathedral, and Tunes. These words alone evoke the image of a cold and lonely day which burdens
the heart like the heavy and mournful tones of an organ. Just words Winter Afternoons carry
sensations of frigidness, bleakness, and loneliness. Winter Afternoons set the scene and describe the
mood (Porter 141). The words Ethereal Blow strike the reader as an oxymoron. Ethereal implies
something light, delicate, and

Against Lgbt Adoption
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adoption
Why are so many people against LGBT adoption? People says bought good and bad thing about
LGBT adoption. People that are against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender says that gay
couple are going to abuse their child, that same sex couples would make their child develop
unwanted abilities and more. Why does people say things like these, do they have actually prof?
My opinion about LGBT adoption is that I think they should be allowed to adopt, because every
child have the right to have a family and it is better for child to live in a foster home than an
orphanage.
Why say those who are against LGBT adoptions that same sex couples are going to abuse they

Significance And Significance Of The Suez Canal
It may be a crossing from the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, yet it is a symbol that holds
great value to the Egyptian people. The Suez Canal was an idea proposed by many generations,
ranging from the Egyptian Pharaohs to Napoleon Bonaparte. Their ideas failed because it was
believed that there was a height difference between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea,
because of this it would take an enormous amount of time and money to construct. Some say that
the pharos succeeded in constructing the Suez Canalbut it was later destroyed as there was evidence
of an old path that connected the two seas.
The purpose of the Suez Canal was to reduce the distance of travel between South Asia and Europe
without having to go all the way around Africa, therefore effectively separating Africa from Asia as

The project shares were to be shared between the Egyptians and the French. The actual construction
came about the year 1895 and took 10 years of constant Egyptian labor. The Suez Canal started
from Port Said and ended at Port Tewfik. The British fought the construction with all their might
and yet the Suez Canal was still constructed.
External debts that occurred for the Egyptians forced Ismail Pasha, who succeeded Sa id Pasha, to
sell his shares which Britain bought, yet the French still had the majority of shares but not for long.
During a revolt to end foreign influence in Egypt took place, Khedive Tawfiq requested Britain to
suppress the revolt. This was the moment when the British took full control of the Suez Canal.
Now the Suez Canal was under foreign control. Egypt gained full control of it after the Second
World War and several years of negotiation, where the British withdrew its

Gang Codes Research Paper
The Gang Code
Our society revolves around a code , code of conduct, code of ethics honor code. This is often
seen in families, companies, military, law enforcement, organized groups (includes street gangs)
ideology groups and countries. Codes have been around for centuries and have been documented
and undocumented. Examples of documented code are penal code, policy procedure manuals.
Undocumented codes are families (family values), street gangs ideology groups. Most common
codes are documented in the Penal Code at all three levels, city, state and federal government,
violations of the penal code results in punishment: from jail time, fine or both. Families tend to
regulate their own rules and consequences. Gangs also regulate their own rules and also abide by a
code similar to that of our military and law enforcement, the code of honor. However, consequences
in the street are more severe and can result in severe physical punishment or death.

1918 Air Mail History
In 1918 the Post Office Department took over control of the United States air mail system from
the War Department. The department purchased aircraft and hired as well as trained pilots to fly
the new airmail routes across the United States. Throughout the years the air mail system faced
many difficulties. As the Post Office Department found ways to deal with these difficulties they
slowly began improving the infrastructure of the air mail system. The money that the government
was allotting for this new air mail system began to attract contract carriers. This infrastructure and
money provided by the U.S government began paving the way for commercial aviation today
(US Aerial Mail Service 1918 1926. (n.d.)). On May 15, 1918 the first air mail routes were

Brown the ability to create long term contracts with airlines. Brown later gave contracts to three
larger airlines purposely excluding smaller airlines. Those airlines were United, TWA, and American

Arguments Against Protest
Garbage littering the streats, buildings slowly withering away in flames, glass shattered
everywhere while smoke turns the sky black, as city officials try to put together the pieces of
whats left of their city. All this is a classic scene of the aftermath after a protest. While having the
right to freedom of speech, and the ability to express them openly, there is still a right and wrong
way to do so. Protesting is the least effictive and most harmful. Although many argue that protesting
is manageable and proffiecent, protests casue more issues than bennifets because they hurt people
and property, send bad messages to the communities and waste people s time and resources. In the
process of protesting many people get hurt and injured while property gets destructed and destroyed.
This alone should be the red light, signally that protestdoes no good. A recent example would be the
Trump Inauguration, more than two policeofficers and one civilian were taken to the hospital
(Krieg). Why are we endangering the people that protect us, when all of this could be solved by
not protesting. Not only does it endanger police but in puts civilians at risk. These major cities
where protest take place are homes to thousands of people, and when protesters are in action...

How Does Luis Valdez Present Social Injustice In Zoot Suit
Zoot Suit is a play, written by Luis Valdez, based on the Sleepy Lagoon murders and the Zoot
Suit riots of the nineteen forties. In this play, Valdez embodies Chicano culture and social
injustice. Upon reading the play, it is very apparent that the main source of injustice is
institutional racism and it is shown in the court scenes of this play. It starts with the Opening of
the Trial (Act I,Scene 9) and in this it proves that the court itself has already set up Henry and the
gang for failure. They failed to show any human decency in which they did not allow the boys to
wear clean clothes or even fix their hair. The appearance of pachucoculture is based of off their

Its starts with the press. The press was an important symbol of racism in which they would
report and paint their own image of pachucos in order to criminalize them to the public. In this
case, Valdez cleverly uses the press character as the prosecutor as well. In this scene, the press is
setting up Della to self incriminating questions by connecting the boys to weapons that were
never found at the crime scene and trying to coerce her answers into sounding like confessions.
Of course the judge was no help because he was against the pachucos from the start, in fact in
this scene it reveals that even their lawyer knew that they were going to lose. In the end, it was
the prosecution s concluding statement that defined this as a racist trial. The prosecutor says it
himself, the specific details of this murder are irrelevant before the overwhelming danger of the
pachuco in our midst (62). On a trial about murder it is very odd to hear that the specific details
are irrelevant and it proves that this trial is more than what it is. They are not on trial for what
they could have done, they are on trial for what they might do because in their perspectives;

The professional Ethics
Professional Ethics There is general recognition of the fact that journalists have responsibilities not
only vis Г vis their own convictions but also towards the public. Summarily, four kinds of
responsibility may be defined: contractual responsibility in relation to the media and their internal
organisation, a social responsibility entailing obligations towards public opinion and society as a
whole, responsibility or liability deriving from the obligation to comply with the law and
responsibility towards the international community, relating to respect of universal values. These
four types of responsibilities may in certain respects be contradictory or even conflicting. The
international commission for the study of communication problems appointed by UNESCO
pointed out that professional ethical norm first began to be codified in all regions of the world.
They vary considerably both in their form and scope. In some countries, different codes govern the
press, broadcasting and the cinema. These codes are formulated and adopted voluntarily by the
professionals and their associations, in other cases; however, they are imposed by the law.
Moreover, principles such as objectivity, impartiality, truthfulness and freedom of information are
frequently formulated in rather vague and ambiguous terms. Most codes refer to such important
concepts as safeguarding freedom of information, freedom of access to information sources,
objectivity, accuracy, truthfulness, or the non

Essay on Technology in Greg Bear s Blood Music
Technology in Greg Bear s Blood Music Different genres of literature are particular responses to
society; therefore, cyberpunk, as a genre, is a response to our contemporary society, known as the
information age. One of the attributes given the genre is that it has an apocalyptic or post
apocalyptic tone, warning the reader of the perils of technology, while at the same time
celebrating the possibilities of technology, usually through a strong character in the novel. In Greg
Bear s Blood Music, technology is seen as having a destructive and creative forces as it reshapes

the system. Blood Music demonstrates the perils and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the idea of having a world without sickness, age, and death seems appealing, Greg Bear
approaches the idea from the what if perspective of something going wrong that could be
detrimental to the whole of society. In Bear s novel, Vergil, an ingenious scientist, creates smart
cells from his own body, going behind the experiments of his company which is trying desperately
to develop the nanotechnology that we are trying to achieve in our own time, and creates natural
cells that can think on their own to manipulate their environment and make it better. Only, when the
cells realize the problems within the living system and begin to change things, it is more that
Virgil bargained for. Each cell from every other living thing is incorporated and melted into an
alternate society, making each cell sentient, but also part of a communal group, sharing DNA, and
ultimately throughout the information transference, making each individual a part of the genetic
whole. Because Virgil s creation ended the world as we know it through the use of technology, it
can be seen as the dark, forbidding text common to cyberpunk fiction. People are melting down
into sheets of skin and cities are stopping like broken down cities, only to be enveloped by the
floating masses of paper thin cells that think for themselves, and yet share information and thoughts
indiscriminately. Each person is loosing a sense of themselves, breaking down into

Queen Hatshepsut
Hatshepsut was born in 1507 BC.
She was born to Thutmose I and Ahmose.
Hatshepsut means She is first among noble women.
In Egypt, the tradition is that the woman is only the wife, nothing else.
Hatshepsut married her half brother, son of Thutmose I and his secondary wife, Mutnofret, when

Partnership Is An Arrangement Or A Form Of Business...
Partnership is an arrangement or a form of business organization in which two or more parties come
together to achieve specified economic objective. Each such party to the organization is known as
partner . The relationship between / among partners is governed by the partnership agreement.
Some of the common clauses relating to partnership are capital, profit/loss sharing ratio, tenor,
object, inclusion of new partner, retirement / exclusion of existing partner, dissolution of
partnership etc. Partnership is a separate entity, which has its own existence from its partners.
Partnership is not a taxable entity. A partnership is a form of business that works as a medium
through which its profits, losses, deductions, and credits pass directly to its partners. In turn, each
partner reports individually his /her share of the partnership s profits, loss, deductions etc. in his/her
individual tax return. This may result in increase or decrease in personal tax liability of a partner.
Hence, for tax reporting and payment purpose, a partnership is treated as an aggregate of
individuals, who provide capital and services to a joint business organization, rather than as a
separate taxable entity.
Partnership Contribution:
Each partner brings in money (cash) / property or some intangible rights to contribute in the
partnership, in lieu of interest in the partnership. At the time of contribution, the partners need to
compute the tax basis of contribution for him and/or for partnership.

King Lear Gender Roles
Gender in King Lear
During the early 17th century, women had very little influence over social, political, and economic
relations. Shakespeare s female characters Goneril and Regan, in The Tragedy of King Lear (1623),
defies this standard. I find that Goneril and Regan s actions throughout the play precedent aspects
of modern feminism, as suggested by Judith Butler in Performative Acts and Gender Constitution:
An Essay in Phenomenology and Feminist Theory. It is apparent, Shakespeare was ahead of his
time in writing The Tragedy of King Lear, he shows how women can be equals, if not superior, to
men, Shakespeare s progressive depiction of women is enacted through the manifestations of
Goneril and Regan s independence. They apprehend the patriarchal, ... Show more content on

Both Goneril and Regan understood the societal norms regarding gender, and used the patriarchal
society to their advantage in order to satisfy their own self interests. Even though the play ends
with their death due their own downfalls, Goneril and Regan are the epitome of female
empowerment. In my opinion, Goneril and Regan was the driving force behind The Tragedy of
King Lear, influencing the madness of King Lear and his downfall. Thus, Shakespeare effectively
demonstrated the idea of submissive women in writing The Tragedy of King Lear, and instead
produced characters equal to and even superior to

What Does The Vietnam Wall Mean
Does fear and reverence have the power to provoke people? In the short story, Once Upon A
Time, the author Nadine Gordimer, uses symbolism to convey how fear coupled with apartheid
can have devastating themes. On the contrary, in Alberto Rios poem The Vietnam Wall, Rios
shows how a little black marble wall has the magic to connect and affect diverse communities.
Rios uses imagery in his poem to convey themes of thanksgiving and reverence. Overall, the
symbolism and imagery both convey an idea about the individual s roles in society. To begin with,
the symbolism in the short story portrays fear and apartheid as the themes. The characters and the
setting both play a role in the symbolism. Foremost, the family lived in a house, in a suburb, in a

The family lives a comfortable life on the inside. Additionally, Gordimer uses witches associated
reputation to indicate that this particular character will be vile in the fairytale aspect. The wise
old witch (the husband s mother) serves as the privileged whites who firmly encouraged
apartheid. She warned the family not to take anyone off the street. Gordimer connotes anyone to
the colored South Africans. She didn t want anyone that was colored to enter their home.
Furthermore, the glorified, blood curdling, protective wall embodies segregation. The disturbing
walls that were ameliorated in the short story, serves as a figurative force that further divides the
whites from the rest of the population (outsiders). Moreover, the little boy and his pets epitomize
blissful ignorance. Throughout most of the paranoia the parents participated in and perpetuated,
the young boy and his pets were playful, and entirely oblivious of everything. This is illustrated

Squealer Dishonest In Animal Farm By George Orwell
Being a follower can be a good thing, but it is mostly bad because you are not showing your true
self. In the novel Animal Farm written by George Orwell, the character of Squealer is traitorous,
dishonest and crafty as he is a spokesperson for Napoleon to the animals. Squealer is traitorous
because he was a spokesperson for Snowball but after Snowball was ousted Squealer became a
spokesperson for Napoleon. Squealer is dishonest because he makes every animal on the farm
believe that Snowball was leagued with Jones from the start. Lastly, Squealer is crafty because
when boxer was not convinced that Snowball was leagued with Jones he said that Napoleon said

Prior to colonization by the French, Mauritania was a land that was inhabited by two populations.
The Moors and the Mauritanians. The Moors descended from the Berbers who came from North
Africa and they speak Hassaniyya Arabic, which is a dialect of Arabic. They are of the Muslim
religion and make up about 70 percent of the population. The other 30 percent of the population
comes from the black Mauritanians.1 The Mauritanians contain sub groups of people known as the

Effects Of Alcohol Abuse And Alcoholism
When entering the field of social work, a person should understand the effects of alcohol, not only
on an individual, but also the effects on the families. Alcohol is one of the many substances that
people use and abuse. Since alcohol is legal for any one over the age of twenty one, many people
begin drinking and then develop an addictionto the substance (Goldberg, 2016). Alcoholismeffects
people of all ages, background, social status, or ethnic group (National Institute on Drug Abuse,
2016). A social worker should understand how to assess and intervene families who are struggling
with alcohol addiction in a way that is both ethical and culturally competent (National Institute on
Alcohol Abuseand Alcoholism, 2005). The main goal for a social worker is to promote well
being and help provide the basic needs of all people (National Association of Social Workers,
2008). To begin, a social worker must first assess the situation that is before them and collect as
much information as possible. Several questions need to be asked to either the family or the
person who has alcoholism. For example, on average, how many days a week does the person
consume alcohol? On those days, how many alcoholic beverages are consumed? In the last thirty
days how many times have you had more than four alcoholic beverages? These questions need to
be asked first because a social worker needs to know how severe the problem is (National Institute
on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2005). In some cases

Today, in a social media ridden world where there s no communication gap, allows news from
around the world to be delivered to us in matter of seconds. Almost every day we hear about a
shocking act of violence, whether it s a terrorist bombing, a senseless rape or a gruesome
murder. These tragedies makes us wonder, What is the world coming to? However, we forget to
realize that in fact today s world is much more peaceful compared to how dangerous life was
thousands of years ago. As pinker stated, Brutality was once woven into the fabric of daily
existence (2). Therefore, in order to understand the violence we witness today, it s important to
acknowledge how bad the world was in the past. In this paper, just as pinker did in his book The
Better Angels of our Nature , I will also argue that violence has decreased tremendously over the
centuries by using numerous evidence and statistical data. The Pacification process, Civilizing
process, and other sanctions throughout millenniums are just some of the changes that resulted in
the decline of violence throughout history.
In his book The Better Angels of our Nature , Pinker uses works from Homeric Greece, evidence
from The Old Testament, and early modern Europeto support his claim that after a millennia of
bloody violence, human kind is entering a peaceful existence. In order allow readers to understand
the violence we witness today, Pinker begins by examining the origins of violence; He uses

Anglo-French Influence On English
At the same time Norman French became Anglo Norman as it was itself affected by English.
More than 10,000 French words found their way into English words associated with government,
law, art, literature, food, and many other aspects of life. About three quarters of these words are
still used, and words derived directly or indirectly from French now account for more than a third
of English vocabulary. In fact English speakers know around 15,000 French words, even before
they start learning the language. When the Normans invaded England, the Anglo Saxon literature
had reached a very high level of development. The important Benedictine monasteries wrote
Chronicles in Old English and guarded other works written in this language. But with the arrival of
the Normans, the Anglo Saxon literature came to an end and the literature written in Britain was in
Latin or in Anglo Norman. The Plantagenet kings encouraged this Anglo Norman literature.
Nevertheless, from the beginning of the 14th century, some authors chose to write in English, but it

An enormous number of Norman French words came into the language, and about three

Edna s sexual awakening is one of the first things addressed in the first chapter when she chooses

Doctor goes to have dinner with Edna, simply to observe in person the strange behavior Leonce

The Theory Of Weapon Focus

(1987) and states that the control group (seeing no weapon) would perform better than the
experimental group (seeing a weapon) on a quiz that tested the participants on the surroundings of
the PowerPoint slides. This is because the weapon is a dangerous and unusual object in a calm and
conventional setting so people pay more attention to it. The background study performed by Loftus,

participants on a 20 multiple choice miscellaneous questionnaire of which 7 questions pertained to

My null hypothesis is that the control group will not perform better than the experimental group
and operationalized by using the analytical Mann Whitney U test. My prediction is that the control
group will perform better than the experimental group because they do not see the weapon in the
slides. Therefore, they will spend more time looking at the surroundings. The experimental group
will be focused more on the weapon because it is out of place with its surroundings. Therefore,
they will spend less time looking at the surroundings and more time looking at the weapon. This is
supported by Loftus, Loftus, and Messo (1987) in Weapon Focus that the experimental group will
spend more time looking at the weapon and so their eyewitness testimony is not reliable and they
will not be able to remember the surroundings.
Section B The independent variable was the woman holding the knife or not holding the knife. The
dependent variable was the participants ability to recall the surroundings pertaining the woman s
appearance and clothes. This was operationalized by having participants look at PowerPoint slides

Total Compensation Strategy
Managing Diversity
Nationally and internationally, companies are facing the task of reassessing the balance between
their own identity and the force of integration. Centralism often makes access to new markets and
regions difficult. Distinctive local autonomies, on the other hand, endanger the overall organization
and identity of the company. Connected with this is the question of whether a unified and global
compensation policy should exist, and how much room for maneuver local and regional entities and

Peter Singer Manifestos
A manifesto is a declaration of beliefs, values, principles, or intent. It is to express one s ideas in
simpler words. Peter Singer s essay is a manifesto for an Animal Liberation movement. Throughout
the whole essay he describes the multiple ways how humans exploit animals. Singer believes
animals do feel pain although they do not have a form of communication using syntax. Singer uses
persuasion when the element of the language barrier between humans and animals roll in. Humans
are different and suffer pain because they have a language governed by using syntax. On the other
hand, the other writers believe animals do not feel pain because they do not have a language using
syntax. Although, Singer the form of persuasion by giving examples of

Cooking is one of the things that keeps Tita to go on with life, it is her passion. When Tita was
going through dramatic situations in her life she used cooking as one her strengths to help her to be
strong. In the article Feminism in Like Water for Chocolate it states, it is through food that Tita
both compares and understands her own emotional and physical state. This statement explains to
the readers that Tita can only figure out her emotions when it comes to the kitchen and cooking.
Cooking to Tita is important because she entered the world right there on the kitchen table amid the
smells of simmering noodle soup, thyme, bay leaves, and cilantro. Cooking become a huge impact
on Tita life because she felt like she can only express herself when it came to cooking. Just in the
same way, Tita had another strength that attributed toward her which includes, the long lasting love
she has for people. In the novel, the author Laura Esquivel explains how Tita is a person who is
nurturing and self sacrificing. For examples, in the novel she states, the baby s cries filled all the

Now, coming out with this definition in our minds, we begin to grasp some knowledge about the
reality about Eschatology, especially the way we can bring down the meaning of this word in the
context that we live and adapt to in our community. However, we must have in mind that we must
see death differently as Kubler Ross explained;
The problem of death is a universal human question. But the answer to that question differs among
cultures. In addition to different ways of dealing with those members of the culture who are dying,
different human societies have also offered a variety of explanations for the phenomenon of death
and its meaning for human existence.
As Christian we can see that all these words correlate with each other as we now look into our
traditional belief to Eschatology and the way we interpret them accordingly.
1
2)Traditional Belief of Eschatology
Islands in the Solomon have one thing in common and that is life after death. This means, they
believe people go to certain places within their Islands when they die. In Isabel, especially people
in Bugotu, we believe very much that people go straight to San George Island immediately after
they die. Even today people hold on to this belief, however because of the influences that the
church ponders upon this belief, it started to fade away from people s mentality.
In other words we can say that San George Island is

Vengeance In The Count Of Monte Cristo
Vengeance in The Count of Monte Cristo Edmond Dantes, the protagonist in The Count of
Monte Cristo, is a man on the verge of great happiness, but that is all dramatically and irreparably
ripped away. Edmond Dantes is a character who is in search of revenge for those who wronged
him. A character analysis of Dantes reveals that through his characteristics, vow of revenge, the
symbolism in the death of Fernand, and the symbolism in the eventual fall of Danglars, Edmond
Dantes portrays the archetype of a hero in search of revenge. The archetype of revenge centers
around vengeance being the main goal of the protagonist. Warren Poland describes vengeance as
the rage for retribution, festering till satisfied by destructive acts (Poland). This describes just
how destructive the search for vengeance can be. In most stories where the overarching theme
is about vengeance, the protagonist is sacrificing hope of a normal life for drowning his sorrow
in the blood of those who wronged him. The theme of vengeance can improve any story by
adding a feeling that the reader can connect with and understand. This feeling of pursuing an
ultimate goal at any cost is most present when the hero is turned into a villain that may use
twisted logic to justify harming, killing, or ruining the life of another, and yet the reader does
not see him as a villain. Most readers support the hero in search of vengeance because it is a
guilty pleasure that most are unwilling to give up, even if it breaks their moral code. The
archetype of vengeance begins with a vow of revenge made by Dantes. This vow is important as
it establishes the archetype of revenge; it was not supported by Abbe Faria, and represents the
things that Dantes lost, has, and is willing to give up. According to biblestudytools, A vow is a
solemn promise made to God to perform or to abstain from performing a certain thing , and this
correlates with the vow that Dantes makes, as his vow is a verbal manifestation of Dantes
commitment to revenge and helps establish the motif of vengeance at any cost (Smith). The vow
made by Dantes carried heavy meaning; he had formed a terrible resolution and taken a fearful oath
which meant that Dantes life was no longer his own, and his

Nursing Reflection Essay
Reflection on a clinical Skill
This essay will discuss a clinical skill in which I have become competent in practicing as a
student nurse. I will use a reflective model to discuss how I have achieved the necessary level of
competence in my nurse training programme. The reflective model I have chosen to use is Gibbs
model (Gibbs 1988). Gibbs model of reflection incorporates the following: description, feelings,
evaluation, analysis, conclusion and an action plan (Gibbs 1988). The model will be applied to the
essay to facilitate critical thought, relating theory to practice where the model allows. Discussion
will include the knowledge underpinning practice and the evidence base for the clinical skill. A
conclusion to the essay will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My mentor said that this was acceptable and I continued to administer the injection, omitting the
use of the alcohol wipe. On the previous occasions when I had administered IM injections I had not
cleansed the site and had never been instructed to adopt this practice.
I am now going to enter into the second stage of Gibbs (1988) model of reflection, which is a
discussion about my thoughts and feelings. I was aware of being under the supervision of two
qualified nurses and this made me feel very nervous and self conscious. Once my mentor
questioned my practice, concerning skin cleansing, I became even more aware of feeling
nervous and under pressure. The patient was present and I did not want the patient to feel that I
did not know what I was doing. I thought that as I had been observed carrying out this clinical
procedure on many other occasions then my practice must have been seen to be correct. I was
now feeling very confused about the use of alcohol wipes in the administration of IM injection. I
was also concerned that the practice of the qualified nurses was so inconsistent, which led me to
evaluate the whole process.
Evaluation is the third stage of Gibbs (1988) model of reflection and requires the reflector to with
state what was good and bad about the event. I was aware that research by Workman (1999)
suggests that the use of skin cleansing wipes is inconsistent and not necessary in IM injections if
the patient appears to be physically clean

Analysis Of The US Department Of Health And Human Services
The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is an agency under the US Secretary
of Health and Human Services that protects and provides health and human services to American
citizens. The agency administers more than 100 programs some of which include: social services,
health insurance, prevention and wellness, research, among others (HHS, 2017). This assignment
analyzes of the agency s policies, procedures, and plans regarding unions, privatization, pensions,
and productivity.
The Agency and Unions
Employees at the US Department of the DHHS are allowed to join workers union. Since these are
government employees, most of them are members of the American Federation of Government
Employees (AFGE), which is the country s largest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it is beneficial to the employees as through the union, things like wages and insurance
could be agreed through collective bargaining.
The Agency and Privatization
The main role of the DHHS is to protect the health of the citizens as well as offer human services
while promoting social services and public health. The agency is under the leadership of the US
Secretary of Health and Human Sciences who is directly appointed the president. Privatization of
the agency implies that the services and programs offered by the agency would be contracted with
private vendors. In case of a privatization, programs and services such as social services, health
insurance, public health and safety, and emergency preparedness and response would no longer be
provided by the government and citizens would seek these services from individual providers.
However, such services should only be provided by the government mainly because of the
resources involved and the coverage. There is no opportunity for privatization as this would mean
that the government would no longer be responsible for the protection of health and human
services. The key reasons why the agency should not privatize revolve around the quality of health
and human services as well as maintaining government jobs. Since the agency mainly offers health
and related social services, there are concerns that private companies will reduce the amount of

A Short Note On Chronic Kidney Disease ( Ckd )
CHAPTER 1
Introduction
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is emerging as a major challenge for the global health care
systems with increasing life expectancy and rising rates of obesity, diabetes and hypertension
(1). Not surprisingly, the incidence rates of End stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) have been rising
world wide with rates ranging from 12 to 455 per million population (pmp) (1). ESKD affects 107
individuals per million population in the United Kingdom (2). Although the incidence rates have
been stable from 2006 2010, it has risen from 95pmp in 2001 (2). Prior to the 1960 s when dialysis
was available, ESKD was universally fatal. Since the advent of dialysis, ESKD was no longer a
terminal condition. With evolving technologies and modifications of the techniques, dialysis
developed into a long term treatment for ESKD. However, survival, morbidity, and quality of life
remain poor, while cost stays high.
Despite only relatively small proportion of patients with CKD progressing to ESKD, the high costs
of dialysis and transplantation makes 0.1 0.2% of the population consume 1 2% of health resources
in the developed world (3). This puts huge strains on global health systems.
Mortality from End stage Kidney Disease
Over the last few decades, renal replacement therapy with hemodialysis (HD) has become standard
therapy for patients with ESKD. Despite developments in new pharmacological agents,
hemodialysis technology, biocompatibility of membranes, bicarbonate buffer, optimal

World War I Was The First Major War
World War I was the first major war where technology was relied on more than the troops
themselves. After what was called the Second Industrial Revolution most major countries
started to create new technologies that in the end would pave the way for World War I. These
technologies ranged from the most used everyday things all the way up to specific types of
weaponry to be used in specific scenarios along the trenches. Most of these technologies of war,
developed from common civilian or household items, these could only result in better use in war.
These machines of war are so vast and expansive in type, but they are all technologies that would
have needed to have been used to bring the war to a close. Not only were machines a large part
but so was Scientific technologies, and innovations that saved or took the lives of many. In many
European countries two major types of transportation reigned over the newer types, these being
ships and trains. Both were used extensively and the usage of them would carry into World War I
,
changing tactics armies took and the speed of their movement as well as their survival. Ships
were used mainly for larger distances ( ie: America to Europe ) where Trains were only able to
carry smaller things along the front or from certain Capitals to the front itself. The usage of the
trains allowed for the movement of shells that were continually made in factories on the home
front, the shells could be run along from the Factories to the shelling

Using Mnemonic Devices For High School Science
Using Mnemonic Devices to Improve Recall in Middle School Science Sarah Brown Eastern
Illinois University ELE 5250 Literature Review Science in the classroom is being recognized as
an integral part of education. Recent revisions to standards and standardized tests are including
more scientific content. The reason science education is so important is because it prepares
students to be informed citizens and knowledgeable consumers (National Governors Association
Center for Best Practices Council of Chief State School [NGA CCSS], 2010). Americans are
competing globally for jobs focused in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math,
also known as STEM jobs. Improving recall of academic language used in the science classroom
can help students meet and exceed their science standards. Similarly, the goal of Common Core
State Standards is to ensure students are prepared for today s entry level careers, freshman level
college courses, and workforce training programs (Common Core State Standard Initiative, 2010).
Both sets of standards understand the importance of critical thinking and analytical skills in
everyday life. Science in the classroom is a way to practice these problem solving skills because it
lends itself to hands on experience. Mnemonic Devices Science content incorporates terms that are
unknown by most students. Finding ways to connect new science terms to pre existing

  • 2. Why the Battle of the Somme is Regarded as a Great... Why the Battle of the Somme is Regarded as a Great Military Tragedy On 1st July 1916, General Haig prepared the battle plan for an offensive on German lines, designed to relieve the strain on French forces at Verdun and break through a strong line of German defences. While Haig would have preferred an attack further north, he was hopeful that the operation should be successful in drawing forces away from Verdun and killing as many German troops as possible as part of the war of attrition . The location was the Somme River. The details were worked out by General Haig and his deputy, General Rawlinson. The focus of the battle plan was a huge artillery bombardment, backed up by mines, collapsed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The strength of German defences was also underestimated, seeing as the Germans had been in place since 1914 and had set about placing their dug outs deep underground and fortifying them with concrete. The barbed wire had been stretched out more than thirty metres wide, making it almost impossible to penetrate, regardless of artillery. It was not only poor forward planning that resulted in such terrible losses however. For example, the shells supplied to British forces were not as Haig had envisaged, many of which were of low quality, or failed to go off at all. Over confidence resulted in the offensive s first major flaw; it s timing. The infantry attack began at 7.30 am on 1st July, rather than at dawn when no man s land would be covered in a thick mist which would naturally make the task of the German gunner much more difficult. Such a time was chosen by Commanders who were confident that there would be little, if any, resistance along the German front. The attack began after the detonation of two huge mines placed under German lines, the explosion of which could be heard in London. This, another flaw in scheme, only served to inform German forces that an attack was coming. The assault consisted of twenty seven divisions, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Five Forces Analysis Of Glanbia s Global Performance... Rivalry among existing firms All the top nutrition businesses (Maximum Human Performance (MHP), Universal Nutrition, CytoSport, MuscleTech) offer attractive prices for their premium products. The sports nutrition business is highly competitive with many companies offering the same range of products. Glanbia s Global Performance Nutritionbusiness comprises of three global brands Optimum Nutrition, BSN and Isopure. What Glanbia s GPN business has done effectively, since acquiring the companies, is it has created a strong brand image globally which means it can offer higher prices for its products compared to weaker smaller companies. As there is a huge growth in this market, GPN are able to grow and expand their business globally without taking markets away from other competitors. Traditionally Glanbia s products were perishable and needed to be sold quickly, but after diversifying their product range, their GPN products can last for years and can sit on them products for longer to get their required price. As products of the market leaders are so similar and switching costs are low for customers which results in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as a general overview, the five forces analysis provides an excellent instrument to examine the potential profit and market growth of an industry. As the by product of cheese is whey and Glanbia one of the largest cheese processors in the world, it made perfect sense for Glanbia to diversify their business into the area of Performance Nutrition. In 2003 Glanbia became the world s largest supplier of whey protein isolate. Instead of selling all its whey protein to other Performance Nutrition companies, Glanbia decided to try to make use of this valuable resource itself. Glanbia acquired global performance companies such as Optimum Nutrition, BSN and Isopure so it could produce its own Performance Nutrition products and move up the value ... The media must have some sort of effect on people and the portrayal of other women always resonated with me. I know that there are many people who claim that unrealistic appearances in things like magazines cause an increase in eating disorders and low self esteem. The constant strive for perfection has been evolving due to digital enhancements with programs such as Photoshop or others that assist with photo editing. It is really easy to make things appear completely changed from their natural looks. A lot of places are requiring acknowledgement of alterations via disclaimers on advertisements. This prompts a debate for who has to concede between what is considered artistic freedom and dangerous content. Technology also contributes to the amount of media exposure people have now through the Internet and social media. These are considered staples in the lives of many impressionable young people, so it could add pressure to accept a new normal. I am also aware that the media is not full of solely negative imagery. There are companies like Dove and Target who are utilizing advertisements to campaign for body positivity. I know that many of these are geared toward young adults and teens, particularly women, so I believe that there must be a connection between age and when these topics need to be addressed. I recall from previous courses that the onset of eating disorders often occurs in the preteen years, which may or may not be the precise demographic targeted by such ... Rainer Maria Rilke was considered to be the most significant poets in the German language, Rilke was a Bohemian Australian poet , Rilke did not have a happy life as a child his mother lost a daughter at only one week old and tried to bring her daughter life back through her son , which she tried to dress him up as a female at his early young ages , the father ended up sending Rainer to military ... The words constantly passing bars (Rilke 1) forms the image of bars blurring past the panther; the panther s vision has beheld the great quantity of bars for so long that it has grown so weary , it cannot hold/anything else (Rilke 2 3) . A thousand bars (Rilke, 4) further develops the imagery. This large number is likely an exaggeration and it works to intensify the ideas of stress and confinement . The Panther despicts the picture of a panther being secured an enclosure and not being able to roam around to have his freedom of opportunity. In the underlying period of the sonnet, Rainer Maira Rilke says that despite the fact that the panther is a solid creature, it has been secured a confined room and is denied its freedom Rainer Maria Rilke , says that since the panther is tired to the point that he can t understand where he is and can assume that there are just bars around him from all sides and he can t get out from that point, regardless of how hard he attempts. He continues hovering in the cage believing that some way or another he could get out and don t appear to will to get subdued. • 6. Racism And Sexism In Sula Toni Morrison, a Nobel Laureate, is considered one of the foremost figures in contemporary American fiction whose award winning novels have won her international acclaim. Toni Morrison has earned a reputation as a gifted storyteller and masterful stylist who has created haunting images of humans isolated by their failures in love and their problems with identity. In her novels, she presents black women as subjects who try to cultivate positive identity in a very hostile world. Morrison s black female characters challenge all the stereotypical negative images which are associated with black women. This is confirmed by bell hooks who argues that: Sexism and racism intensified and magnified the sufferings and oppressions of black women (22). Nevertheless, for many African American women, motherhood presents a symbol of power and is an empowering experience (Collins 132 7). Motherhood is also seen as the standard of womanhood (Christian, Black Feminist Criticism 76). And according to this standard, women should live their lives to sacrifice for others. However, in Sula, Toni Morrison creates a strong female character who not only refuses the role [the standard role assigned for a woman], she steps outside the caste of woman, beyond any class or definition [and] insists on making herself (Christian, Black Feminist Criticism 76). The Political Community in Guatemala Essay The Political Community The social apartheid that exist in Guatemala separates Guatemala into two places and does not allow the country to be united, both democratically socially. The indigenous population is separated from opportunities. Without the minimal conditions, necessary for citizens to exercise their rights in practice there is not citizenship and therefore no true democracy. The administration made some progress on such issues as taking state responsibility for past human rights cases, supporting human rights in international forums, and pressing labor rights reforms, but it failed to show significant advances on combating impunity in past human rights cases, military reforms, and legislation to increase political participation. The political balance was once again disrupted in 2000 when allegations surfaced that the FRG had illegally altered legislation. Following an investigation, the Supreme Court stripped those involved including President of Congress and FRG chief Rios Montt of their legislative immunity to face charges in the case. At roughly the same time, the PAN opposition suffered an internal split and broke into factions; the same occurred in the ANN. Reforms essential to peace implementation still await legislative action. The Accord on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples (the Indigenous Accord) was signed in 1995 as part of the peace accords. It contains commitments to constitutional reforms to promote and respect certain indigenous peoples rights, mainly related to issues of cultural rights and identity, participatory mechanisms, the role of indigenous authorities and customary law. • 8. Emily Dickinson s Capitalization and Punctuation The poetry of Emily Dickinson is one of the most recognizable of the 19th century. Dickinson s poetry stands out because of its unconventional use of capitalization and punctuation. Her poems contain capitalized words which are not normally capitalized. Her poems are noted for the frequent use of the dash. Literary scholars have attempted to interpret Dickinson s unconventional capitalization and punctuation. Some believe that it was merely part of Dickinson s penmanship (Weisbuch 73). They therefore edit Dickinson s poetryand publish them in standardized form. Others believe that the capitalization and punctuation were a conscious effort on Dickinson s part. These scholars notice the little nuances of Dickinson s dashes, such as whether... As demonstrated above, the word light is not capitalized. Furthermore, Dickinson also capitalizes words which are not nouns, as seen in lines 4 6 of He fumbles at your Soul . The word ethereal is an adjective, but Dickinson chooses to capitalize it. He stuns you by degrees Prepares your brittle Nature For the Ethereal Blow The capitalized words are the key words of the poem. They add weight to the lines, tipping the balance of the poetic rhythm. The reader is invited to ponder over their meaning and significance (Miller 59). The capitalization gives Dickinson s poems concreteness and symbolism (Miller 58). The reader s attention is drawn to these capitalized words. They form an image in the reader s mind. For example, in the first example, the capitalized words are Slant, Winter, Afternoons, Heft, Cathedral, and Tunes. These words alone evoke the image of a cold and lonely day which burdens the heart like the heavy and mournful tones of an organ. Just words Winter Afternoons carry sensations of frigidness, bleakness, and loneliness. Winter Afternoons set the scene and describe the mood (Porter 141). The Suez Canal was an idea proposed by many generations, ranging from the Egyptian Pharaohs to Napoleon Bonaparte. Their ideas failed because it was believed that there was a height difference between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, because of this it would take an enormous amount of time and money to construct. Some say that the pharos succeeded in constructing the Suez Canalbut it was later destroyed as there was evidence of an old path that connected the two seas. Arguments Against Protest Garbage littering the streats, buildings slowly withering away in flames, glass shattered everywhere while smoke turns the sky black, as city officials try to put together the pieces of whats left of their city. All this is a classic scene of the aftermath after a protest. While having the right to freedom of speech, and the ability to express them openly, there is still a right and wrong way to do so. Protesting is the least effictive and most harmful. Although many argue that protesting is manageable and proffiecent, protests casue more issues than bennifets because they hurt people and property, send bad messages to the communities and waste people s time and resources. In the process of protesting many people get hurt and injured while property gets destructed and destroyed. This alone should be the red light, signally that protestdoes no good. A recent example would be the Trump Inauguration, more than two policeofficers and one civilian were taken to the hospital (Krieg). The professional Ethics Professional Ethics There is general recognition of the fact that journalists have responsibilities not only vis Г vis their own convictions but also towards the public. Summarily, four kinds of responsibility may be defined: contractual responsibility in relation to the media and their internal organisation, a social responsibility entailing obligations towards public opinion and society as a whole, responsibility or liability deriving from the obligation to comply with the law and responsibility towards the international community, relating to respect of universal values. These four types of responsibilities may in certain respects be contradictory or even conflicting. The international commission for the study of communication problems appointed by UNESCO pointed out that professional ethical norm first began to be codified in all regions of the world. They vary considerably both in their form and scope. In some countries, different codes govern the press, broadcasting and the cinema. These codes are formulated and adopted voluntarily by the professionals and their associations, in other cases; however, they are imposed by the law. Partnership is an arrangement or a form of business organization in which two or more parties come together to achieve specified economic objective. Each such party to the organization is known as partner . The relationship between / among partners is governed by the partnership agreement. Some of the common clauses relating to partnership are capital, profit/loss sharing ratio, tenor, object, inclusion of new partner, retirement / exclusion of existing partner, dissolution of partnership etc. Partnership is a separate entity, which has its own existence from its partners. Partnership is not a taxable entity. A partnership is a form of business that works as a medium through which its profits, losses, deductions, and credits pass directly to its partners. In turn, each partner reports individually his /her share of the partnership s profits, loss, deductions etc. in his/her individual tax return. This may result in increase or decrease in personal tax liability of a partner. Hence, for tax reporting and payment purpose, a partnership is treated as an aggregate of individuals, who provide capital and services to a joint business organization, rather than as a separate taxable entity. Alcohol is one of the many substances that people use and abuse. Alcoholismeffects people of all ages, background, social status, or ethnic group (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2016). On those days, how many alcoholic beverages are consumed? In the last thirty days how many times have you had more than four alcoholic beverages? The movement was founded in the late 19th century by mostly secular Jews as a response to the rising anti Semitism across Europe. More than 10,000 French words found their way into English words associated with government, law, art, literature, food, and many other aspects of life. About three quarters of these words are still used, and words derived directly or indirectly from French now account for more than a third of English vocabulary. In fact English speakers know around 15,000 French words, even before they start learning the language. When the Normans invaded England, the Anglo Saxon literature had reached a very high level of development. The important Benedictine monasteries wrote Chronicles in Old English and guarded other works written in this language. But with the arrival of the Normans, the Anglo Saxon literature came to an end and the literature written in Britain was in Latin or in Anglo Norman. The Plantagenet kings encouraged this Anglo Norman literature. • 46. Vengeance In The Count Of Monte Cristo Vengeance in The Count of Monte Cristo Edmond Dantes, the protagonist in The Count of Monte Cristo, is a man on the verge of great happiness, but that is all dramatically and irreparably ripped away. Edmond Dantes is a character who is in search of revenge for those who wronged him. A character analysis of Dantes reveals that through his characteristics, vow of revenge, the symbolism in the death of Fernand, and the symbolism in the eventual fall of Danglars, Edmond Dantes portrays the archetype of a hero in search of revenge. The archetype of revenge centers around vengeance being the main goal of the protagonist. Warren Poland describes vengeance as the rage for retribution, festering till satisfied by destructive acts (Poland). This describes just how destructive the search for vengeance can be. In most stories where the overarching theme is about vengeance, the protagonist is sacrificing hope of a normal life for drowning his sorrow in the blood of those who wronged him. The theme of vengeance can improve any story by adding a feeling that the reader can connect with and understand. This feeling of pursuing an ultimate goal at any cost is most present when the hero is turned into a villain that may use twisted logic to justify harming, killing, or ruining the life of another, and yet the reader does not see him as a villain. Most readers support the hero in search of vengeance because it is a guilty pleasure that most are unwilling to give up, even if it breaks their moral code. The archetype of vengeance begins with a vow of revenge made by Dantes. This vow is important as it establishes the archetype of revenge; it was not supported by Abbe Faria, and represents the things that Dantes lost, has, and is willing to give up. According to biblestudytools, A vow is a solemn promise made to God to perform or to abstain from performing a certain thing , and this correlates with the vow that Dantes makes, as his vow is a verbal manifestation of Dantes commitment to revenge and helps establish the motif of vengeance at any cost (Smith). The vow made by Dantes carried heavy meaning; he had formed a terrible resolution and taken a fearful oath which meant that Dantes life was no longer his own, and his ... A Short Note On Chronic Kidney Disease ( Ckd ) CHAPTER 1 Introduction Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is emerging as a major challenge for the global health care systems with increasing life expectancy and rising rates of obesity, diabetes and hypertension (1). Not surprisingly, the incidence rates of End stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) have been rising world wide with rates ranging from 12 to 455 per million population (pmp) (1). ESKD affects 107 individuals per million population in the United Kingdom (2). Although the incidence rates have been stable from 2006 2010, it has risen from 95pmp in 2001 (2). Prior to the 1960 s when dialysis was available, ESKD was universally fatal. Since the advent of dialysis, ESKD was no longer a terminal condition. With evolving technologies and modifications of the techniques, dialysis developed into a long term treatment for ESKD. However, survival, morbidity, and quality of life remain poor, while cost stays high. Despite only relatively small proportion of patients with CKD progressing to ESKD, the high costs of dialysis and transplantation makes 0.1 0.2% of the population consume 1 2% of health resources in the developed world (3). After what was called the Second Industrial Revolution most major countries started to create new technologies that in the end would pave the way for World War I. Improving recall of academic language used in the science classroom can help students meet and exceed their science standards. Similarly, the goal of Common Core State Standards is to ensure students are prepared for today s entry level careers, freshman level college courses, and workforce training programs (Common Core State Standard Initiative, 2010). Both sets of standards understand the importance of critical thinking and analytical skills in everyday life. Science in the classroom is a way to practice these problem solving skills because it lends itself to hands on experience.
