not see him as a villain. Most readers support the hero in search of vengeance because it is a
guilty pleasure that most are unwilling to give up, even if it breaks their moral code. The
archetype of vengeance begins with a vow of revenge made by Dantes. This vow is important as
it establishes the archetype of revenge; it was not supported by Abbe Faria, and represents the
