Caregiving Lewis-Personal Narrative
Andy
Andrew
Mrs. K
It was a beautiful spring morning in Mound City Missouri. The population was only around 1,000
people. Andrew and I were up bright and early before the peak of dawn. The forecast looked sunny
with a touch of fog. We were busy at the hotel preparing for our first morning of the hunt. Andrew don
t forget the snacks and Mountain Dew like you did last year, I hinted. With a chuckle, Andrew said, I
won t this time, and you make sure we got the shotguns, and shells packed. We can t forget those.
Both of us had our stuff together and headed outside to the truck. They made sure they had everything
and were off on our 20 minute drive to the field. We got out and unpacked. We both laid down the
blinds and set up the decoys. At last, we were on the hunt of our dreams. We ... Show more content on

appreciate that. Now go back on your trip have some fun while you done.
Thank you doctor! we had both yelped.
I had said to Andrew, Well Andrew let s go back on our trip and have some fun.
We had left the hospital around 5 am just in time to get to the field. We started off the day, and we shot
a lot of geese that morning. We shot 197 snow geese on the trip. We were at the hotel on Monday
morning, and we were eating breakfast when we saw what the forecast was on the news. There was
supposed to be a really bad snow storm, but we blew it off, and we started our trip home around noon.
We were about an hour into the trip and the snow storm hit. It was blizzard conditions, and the wind
started to pick up, and before long the wind was howling! We had to stay at a hotel in Maryville.
I blew up at Andrew, Why did we have to go we could have just stayed in Mound City!
Sorry!, I didn t no it was going to get this bad, Andrew said.
Well now we will be late for the potluck tomorrow, I

The Nature Of Discovery In The Virgin Suicides By Sofia...
Discovery is often provoked when the actions of others act as a catalyst, often stimulating personal
growth. However, the ramifications are dependent on individual perceptions and the unique context
they bring to the process. These ideas are amplified by Shakespeare s Jacobean romance The Tempest,
with its array of characters who dramatise this instability through diverse human responses contrasting
to the antagonizing nature of discovery. 1999 American drama film, The Virgin Suicides by Sofia
Coppola, reflects the collective consciousness of a group reminiscing on past experiences and
interactions, opening them to discover personal potential. This process acts as a catalyst for an
evaluation of the impact of change, leading to new discoveries. In exploring composer s
representations of discoveries, individuals learn the symbiotic relationships of new insights and their
intrinsic value.
Discoveries that are catalysed by unexpected an unprecedented human interaction, are often the most
powerful and lead to immense personal growth. Thus understanding emerges through a range of
dramatic forms and features within The Tempest, As the title suggests the work revolves around an
extended metaphor, partly concerned with the forces of nature, evident from the very opening of the
play as Prospero s elaborate scheme to inflict vengeance on his usurpers in a manner much like the
chaotic nature of a storm or tempest. As such, Prospero s, lack of empathy and self awareness is
reflected

Analysis of Art
Title: Cuteness and Loneliness Life is full emotions like happiness and sadness. People sometimes feel
happy, joyful, and cheerful, but sometimes sadness or depression. Edward Hopper and Takashi
Nakamura draw their paintings to express different feelings. In Edward Hopper s painting Morning
Sun (1952), he displays the image of a woman looking outside alone in order to symbolize the woman
s feelings about depression, but also how she still has hope for her own life. On the other hand, in
Takashi Nakamura painting Kaikaikiki New (2009), he displays the image of many cartoon like
characters in order to symbolize feelings of happiness Therefore, the two artists express opposing
feelings in their works. In Edward Hopper s painting, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her face tells me that she does not have courage to give up everything for her new life. She seems to
be a single woman and looks tired of her ordinary life. However, her eyes, looking at outside, have
strong feeling as well. She has a longing to her ordinary life somehow. Thus, she was sitting on the
bed alone, holding her legs, and I can see her struggle for her life. Her eyes tell me her feelings of not
only depression but also hope. Also, in Edward Hopper s image, he uses darker and brighter colors to
symbolize the depression and hope in this image. Overall, brown and dark brown can be seen
throughout the wall, and there is no warm color in her room, such as red or green color. The dark
colors give the observer a sad and troubled impression, so the darkness symbolizes the woman s
depressed feeling. In addition, when Hopper colored her bed a bluish color, it gives me a cold
impression, and she is sleeping on the cold bed during the night. However, Hopper used a lighter color
on the place the sunlight spot. She bathes in the sunlight as well, so half of her body is brighter. It is
because by painting a brighter color on the half of her body, the observer feels that the figure is
receiving light straight at her. So, even though her face looks sad, she is still receiving light from her
front so that it makes the observer feel that the woman still has

Stephanie Cardon Analysis
Stephanie Cardon: PLATFORM 17 Beacon As an artist, Stephanie Cardon seeks to stimulate the
viewer to create their own understanding of the connections among objects and the intermediary space
between them. Beacon, Cardon s first large scale, outdoor sculpture, articulates this artistic vision. A
new commission for the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, the sculpture consists of two 11 foot
concrete towers connected by a canopy of two layers of thin, yellow vinyl coated steel cables. The
overlapping lines formed by the cables produce shifting visual effects. Although the sculpture initially
may appear a monumental and solid structure, on closer examination the viewer discovers that Beacon
is constant flux, changing with light, weather, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cardon was born in the United States to a French father and American mother, raised in France, and
studied and lived in the United Kingdom. For the last several years she has lived in Boston. Such
autobiographical connections surface in her work. Leading up to making Beacon, Cardon created the
sculpture Transatlantic (the weight of water), which is a long, twisted band of knitted wool that droops
In the center to the floor. The blue color of the wool gives the impression of a wave. Cardon links the
physical heaviness of the dense mass of material to psychological weight that exists between spaces.

A High School Program Should Not Be Avoided At All Costs
As I write this, I m in between apartments and living at home for the time being, so I ve taken this
moment of desperate, post collegiate aimlessness solitude to clean out my childhood bedroom. The
small pile of sweat stained band t shirts, folders of AP History notes my high school teachers insisted I
d need in college, and Mad Magazine issues are worth some nostalgic currency, but I had no idea I
was stocked in pitiful high school mix CDs.
Whether they were cherished tokens of affection by past girlfriends/friends or copies made under the
assumption that my mix work would be highly praised for years to come, I was wrong. So very, very
wrong. Other than being rife with too many pseudo depressing acoustic jams and terrible song

Compare And Contrast Huxley And Thomas Moore
How did Aldous Huxley and Thomas Moore approach the perfect society in their writings? They each
created a society vastly different from the prevailing one of their times.
Thomas More coined the word utopia from 2 Greek words ou meaning no or not and topos which
mean no place for his novel Utopia (Miriam Webster 2017). His novel Utopia written in 1516 was
essay of current 16th century English society. Each author is a product of their times. Thomas Moore
lived during the Renaissance at a time just after the New World was discovered and the printing press
was invented. The world was alight with new ideas and Thomas More thought these new ideas could
lift the masses of Europe out of abject poverty. People whose only wrongdoing was ... Show more

One defining characteristic of the Utopian genre is that the societies require their citizens to give up
personal freedoms in exchange for economic and physical security. In Utopia all people are equal and
people voluntarily gave up those freedoms. Draconian laws protect a benevolent state and therefore
the population at large. People can be killed or enslaved for breaking the rules. Utopia was ruled by a
hierarchy of elected phylarchs within this classless society. The author Thomas More contrasts the
Utopia classless society with entrenched European class system which is based on largely on heredity.
In Brave New World the world is ruled by a supposed benevolent ruling class. The population is
subjugated through the Bokanovsky Process, Podsnap Technique and Hypnopaedia. These processes
condition people to be happy with their lot in life.
Both Authors define the common good from different perspectives. Both societies provide the basics
of the common good. People were fed, clothed and educated by society. They had easy access to
medical care and housing. To Thomas Moore the common good also meant to nourish the mind. He
believed in a society populated by an enlightened, happy and productive people. This intelligent
population was civically involved and helped rule the land. People used the free time

The Importance Of Ideas In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 1920 s, explores the significance of ideals and
how working to achieve them can structure one s life. The Novel centers around an egocentric, rich
and materialistic group of characters who all share a common value of wealth. However, the character
Jay Gatsby, values love more than he values money. Gatsby believes that being with the women he
loves, Daisy, the wife of the wealthy Tom Buchanan will make him feel as though he has fulfilled his
life. Gatsby s childhood and past have allowed him to realize what he wants most in life, and how he
is willing to go to extreme measures to achieve his goals. He dedicates his life to renewing his love
with Daisy. The immense effort that he puts into achieving his ideal doesn t allow him to see some of
the lousy qualities that daisy possesses. Fitzgerald uses Jay Gatsby to demonstrate how personal
experiences can create an ideal, and how pursuing that ideal can shape one s character and structure an
individual s life.
Gatsby s childhood experiences have taught him how important it is to achieve his goals. His
experiences created a hard working, work ethic and made him realize that he s willing to sacrifice
almost anything when pursuing his ideals. Jimmy Gatz, Jay Gatsby s original name symbolizes his
past. Essentially, Jimmy Gatz is poor, and Jay Gatsby is wealthy. As Nick tells us, He had changed [his
name] at the age of seventeen and at the specific moment that witnessed

Concert Swingin In The Opera House At Moores Opera House
Prior to attending the concert Swingin In The Opera House at Moores Opera House, I had very little
experience attending concerts. Aside from few band performances I attended back in middle and
elementary school, I was never exposed to the world of concerts and performances. Going into this
concert, I was expecting great things since it was my first college concert. To my expectations,
everything seemed perfect when I first walked in. The lighting of the opera house was set just right
and I could see all the performers lined up in front with their instruments ready to play. There were
many instruments playing during the performances. I noticed saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and
several instruments such as the guitar and piano that kept the rhythm going. There was a conductor
during the performance leading all the performers on when to play. It was apparent that he did a great
job since all the instruments were in sync and played at all the right times. Overall the audience was
extremely respectful. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance and it set a great mood in the opera
house. One piece that I really enjoyed in the program was Cherokee arranged by Frank Mantooth.

In class, I would go over several of the instruments that will be played during the concert and see if

discussed is dynamics. Since this piece had very distinguishable forte and piano sections, I feel like
the students would be able to pick up on these distinctions while listening to the piece. Emphasizing
proper etiquette when it comes to being part of the audience is also important since young students

Oscar Wilde s Character, Jack Worthing, And The Other
Oscar Wilde s protagonist, Jack Worthing, carries on two distinct identities throughout the play. One
of the personas is a countryman in Hertfordshire named Jack Worthing, and the other is a dandy in
London named Ernest. Wilde intentionally creates two different characters, which are contradictory to
the reader s expectation whenever they first read the characters names. The name Ernest correlates
with the actual definition of the adjective earnest, which means a person who is honest, serious, and
sincere. Later in the play, Jack realizes his name is actually John, however both have the same
connotation. Gwendolyn states in the first act, there is very little music in the name Jack... I ve known
several Jacks, and they all without exception were more than usually plain (Wilde 25). Evidently, in
the Victorian Era, a man with the name Jack or John was expected to be plain or a man who is not a
dandy, but an ordinary man who has responsibilities. The names Wilde gave to his characters seem to
be appropriate, however, once the reader dissects the play, the names Jack and Ernest would have been
better applied to their counterparts.
The brilliant title that Oscar Wilde gives his play is a pun in itself. The pun depends on not only the
adjective earnest, but after the farce has ended the audience will recognize that there is an actual
importance in being a gentleman named Ernest. In the Victorian era, the idea of earnestness was a
virtue that the people attached the

ICT In English Language Teaching
Once there was famine for information but today s generation is drowned in the deluge of information.
The ICT (Information and Communication Technology) has been used in all fields of life, including
education. In Indian education, the computer technology has become so significant that the
government has incorporated the ICT in the curriculum. The use of the ICT in English Language
Teaching has of late started to stress the potential and significant progress in language learning. It has
become one of the major issues in the world of education and has been in use from preschool to the
tertiary level which could facilitate students and teachers during the process of teaching and learning.
The ICT has been gaining vitality as it is an enabling tool for educational revival as well. As indicated
above, the importance of the ICT as a teaching aid, especially in imparting the nuances of teaching
and learning English is being dealt with in detail in this paper.

Learning Organization
Learning Organization: Answer to Organizational Growth
Introduction
Organizations are established to fulfil various needs of the people. The organizational objectives could
be achieved via the organization s growth oriented mechanism which is inevitable in today s
competitive world. However, the most important factor which needs to be taken into consideration
towards achieving the objective is the people or staff members who directly have impact on the
productivity of the product or services. Negative behaviour such as absenteeism and high turnover
rates will increase the production cost and adversely affect the productivity, thus affecting the overall
organisational growth.
Organizational Behaviour
Organizational behaviour is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, it s by feedback from their customers. This can be either in a form of messages written or
electronically sent to the hospital s management. This is also the very reason, some organization have
customer s satisfaction program, which the organization organize regularly.
The process of creating the conditions for a learning organization and of challenging long held
assumptions will itself begin to integrate the five disciplines as presented by Peter Senge in his book
The Fifth Discipline .
1. Personal Mastery
Personal mastery, as defined by Peter Senge, is the discipline of personal growth and learning. 1 It is
more than just competence and skills or spiritual growth. It is about creating a desired future and
moving toward it. People with high levels of personal mastery are skilled at creating a personal vision
and accurately assessing their current reality with respect to that vision. The gap between current
reality and personal vision propels them forward. This gap is often referred to as creative tension.
Personal mastery is about generating and sustaining creative tension and living comfortably with that
tension.
There are few characteristics of those individuals that recognized to have high level of Personal
Mastery. Firstly, they have a special sense of purpose or calling. They know how to accurately assess
the current reality and quickly recognize inaccurate assumptions. These individuals also

Mathematics Competition At An Early Age
With a strong desire to challenge myself and a thirst for innovation, I started participating in Olympic
Mathematics Competition at an early age an area full of new ideas, challenging problems.
Mathematics is said to be a male dominated area, nevertheless, I wanted to show that it is wrong.
From elementary school to high school, I enjoyed my summers with intensive training on nationally
renowned mathematical competitions. While the medals I earned in mathematic competitions have
opened up doors for me in middle school, high school, and then college, the knowledge and
experiences gained from years of unremitting dedication to the craft of problem solving has proven to
be the most rewarding result. I became eager to explore my potential, and have no fear for failure. My
talents and persistent effort enabled me to get full score in National Middle School Mathematics
Olympiad and be the only junior high student in my school to win the first prize in National High
School Olympiad. In the summer of 2011, I was selected to represent my province to take part in the
Chinese Girl s Mathematical Olympiad (CGMO). The days being with girls from all around the world
revolutionized my way of thinking. I was impressed by the elegant solutions provided by those girls
from other countries and their enthusiasm towards perfection. This motivated me go abroad to study
with those talented minds.

Pros And Cons Of Tariffs
Pros and Cons of Tariffs
Principles of Macroeconomics
Columbia Southern University
BBA 2401
Angelo Jones
Managing the how goods and services enter or leave this country (import/export) is an important
process that allows for us to control the economic status of our nation. Sometimes imposing tariffs on
the goods imported balances our labor cost, resources and government supported industry. A tariff by
definition is a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports.
Economic policy of nations and states, tariffs are tools used to control the flow of goods, services and
resources being brought into the country. The overall purpose is to create security for the domestic
industry from the imported product. These products can sometimes be less expensive to purchase than
the goods being manufactured in the local economy. (McEachern, 2015) The government does this
either stimulate or deflate trade with other countries. (Fontinelle, 2012)
There are quite a few forms of tariffs that the government may apply based on the condition of the
country s economic welfare. The pros and cons of these forms of tariffs will be reviewed. Discussion
on how these tariffs positively or negatively affects the economic stance of the country will be
displayed. Tariffs such as the ad valorem, the taxing a percentage of the value of an item and the
specific tariff or tax which is a set amount based on weight or sum of items. (McEachern, 2015)

Thesis For Nosferatu
Rhetorical Outline
Proposition: The film Nosferatu was a key step in establishing the modern standard of the vampire as
an icon of horror.
Audience: Persons with a high level of interest in the history and development of film, specifically
vampire or German Expressionist film. The book discusses how Nosferatu is an important milestone
in cinematic history for its pioneering in both the creation of the vampire icon and its use of cutting
edge film techniques, so people with an advanced interest in the history of film would find this book
appealing. Additionally, it holds a lot of important analysis for students required to study Nosferatu,
and provides insight to the significance of the film that they would not have otherwise had.

She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto the
introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally describes
the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From there, she
discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their expertise
contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they presented the
movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker s lawsuit against the Prana
film company damaged the movie s reputation and popularity. From there she describes how the plot
of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy of Horror of an onset
phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As the chapter progresses,
Massaccesi s description of the plot includes lengthy and in depth analyses of each character in terms
of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she considers the significance
of various aspects of the film in relation to the film s events and characters, such as camera angles and
symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other aspects of the film in relation to the
sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole, applying themes such as the defeat of a
tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder associated with Romantic artwork.
Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very
informative and direct with the content of her book. In every section of the chapters, she has a very
clear pattern of making a claim, providing an example, and connecting the two via

Stereotypes In Social Psychology Paper
Aside from arising from mental shortcuts, it has also been proposed that stereotypes are a result of
group conflict (Sherif, 1966). Regularly, individuals behave in a way that is expected of them in order
to uphold the impressions others have of them. Thus, individuals act accordingly and embody the
stereotype which is projected upon them (Baumeister Bushman). The degree to which we rely on
stereotypes when establishing judgements of others has been widely investigated in the field of social
psychology. Frequently, the harmful consequences of relying on stereotypes is noted with the potential
of this tendency to lead to prejudice and discrimination. Furthermore, the variation in the significance

knowledge on information processing (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). It is essential to
comprehend these concepts before delving into the importance of stereotypes when forming
impressions of others. In the initial stage of developing schemas, they allow the individual to ignore
what is perceived to be unimportant or unnecessary details of a situation, thus reducing the complexity
of the information (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). Indeed, schemas guide behaviour and allow a
platform for individuals to make mental shortcuts and damaging stereotypes, they can also simplify
life and are useful in every day situations (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). For example, if one had
an existing stereotype that guns are dangerous and hastily decided to move to the other side of the
street after noticing a man with a gun this would be an extremely useful and possibly life saving use of
a stereotype. However, whether stereotypes are considered to be beneficial or unconstructive they are
undeniably important when forming impressions of other

Intergenerational Upward Mobility
Nanay (Mother), a 2009 testimonial play on verbatim research interview transcripts of Geraldine Pratt
in collaboration with the Philippine Women Centre and Filipino Canadian Youth Alliance on Filipino
Live In Caregivers (LCP) of British Columbia, tells one story, among others, of a young woman who
was left behind in the Philippines in the care f her father. Her monologue highlights her urge to drop
out of high school, the conflict she has with her mother, and her compromised future. Though she was
pursuing a university study in the Philippines, her education ambitions shrank in Canada. Rather, she
completed a six month medical assistant course because of its modest length and cost. Her story

This structural approach suggests that the low educational outcomes of Filipino youths in Canada is an
effect of their mother s migration pathway through the LCP, which is inevitably exacerbated by
economic, familial, social, and cultural expectations and factors that are complex and multifaceted.
They were left behind children when they lived in the Philippines and they then are prone to becoming
left behind students in Canada due to these intersecting factors. This idea suggests the need to bridge
the gap in studying the separation of mothers and children (left behind) and their settlement or family
reunification in Canada. Below are tables showing this paper s attempt to consolidate the explanatory
variables through the use of micro, meso, and macro analytical levels and their corresponding

The Characteristics Of Robert Walton s Frankenstein
In the first few letters, opening the book, readers are introduced to the writer, Robert Walton, a sailor
with hopes of discovery. While addressing his letters to his sister, readers are able to follow Waltons
oceanic journey to the Arctic. In his letters he speaks of this journey, what ushers his passion to learn,
the story of his upbringing and his desire for a companion. Readers can see that he is not only driven,
and curious, but empathetic and lonesome as well.
Upon reading these quotes, it soon becomes clear that Frankenstein has a longing to retain
information. He is able to portray this educational longing through phrases such as having an eager
desire to learn, key word being eager. Frankenstein and I somewhat differ on our attitude towards
learning. I wish I was as motivated as he, but I lack the desire that steers him. I do desire education,
but just not to the extent that Frankenstein does. Not only does Frankenstein speak of having access to
a routine education, such as a school, but he also speaks of his ability to self teach himself. In order to
do so, he must have an immense amount of maturity and an ample amount of both independence and
self sufficiency. I only wish that I had these characteristics as strong as he.

I personally was not as excited about this piece as I hoped. I like louder and more exciting music that
changes from soft to loud and has a more upbeat tempo. The second piece preformed was, Sedona by
Steven Reineke. I really like this piece a lot. It reminds me of Christmas and happy times. I like how
in the beginning the piece starts off softer, but you can still hear all the different instruments playing
their part. The tone of the flutes is very beautiful to listen to and I really enjoyed how the piece slowed
down to really enhance that sound. Overall, I really enjoyed this piece and it was very well played.
The next piece played was, Salvation is created by Pavel Tschesnokoff and Bruce Houseknecht. This
piece starts off soft but then you hear the Timpani which brings in a louder sound to the piece. This
piece has a very slow tempo which was hard for me to keep my focus on. When I listen to this piece
and I hear the Timpani, I think of something exciting happening and then it goes back to being normal
again. Overall, I had a harder time concentrating but I didn t mind it. The next piece played was,

Summary Of In Cold Blood By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Entry #1: Speaker
Truman Capote is described in the biography section of the book as being born in 1924 in New
Orleans. He, over his lifetime, wrote a variety of works from short stories to memoirs. In the
acknowledgments, he says that the information presented in the book is taken from official records or
is the result of interviews. He then goes on to mention some of the important people to help make the
book happen like the members of Finney County, the place where the event happened, and notable
members of institutions like Kansas State University and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote
did not find any of the information first hand, nor is he from the state in which the crime occurred. He
simply wrote a clear account of what happened by using interviews and police notes after the fact.
Truman Capote s relationship to the topic was simply that he volunteered to be the voice of a case that
otherwise might not have been heard throughout the country and around the world in full detail and
for years to come.
Throughout the book, Capote establishes himself as a qualified and trustworthy writer through his use
of ethos, or credibility. He shows the degree of precision and accuracy of his facts by mentioning
highly trusted individuals and organizations. For example, he says while describing Alvin Dewey, the
head of the case for the state as being a former sheriff of Finney County and F.B.I. Special Agent.

Emma And Clueless Analysis
Heckling has transformed Emma through a new set of social values, a new medium and a different
context. She shows the changed ideologies and values by transforming the provincial setting of
Highbury and upper class (gentry) systems whereby wealth, property and status govern strict codes of
behaviour and social relationships to a microcosm of modern Beverly Hills. In Emma, marriage is a
social custom and expectation acting as a medium for security, financial assets, wealth and social
status. Class systems made social interaction and experience limited with rank giving rise to
insensitive, arrogant and pompous individuals like Emma and Cher.
In Clueless, social interaction is not limited by setting but rather popularity and criteria. Although ...

Taking a Look at Village Surf Shoppe
1. Marketing Objectives
Village Surf Shoppe brand s inherent strengths confine with the knowledge that its inland market is
expected to increase sales by 20% within the next three years. Additionally, VSS is currently on a high
level of brand awareness in the local community, and has been successful in its local use of guerilla
marketing tactics. Brand s weakness is excessively entrenched in the local market and it still practices
traditional advertising methods. Opportunities include the recent boom in surf culture which allows
VSS to expand its consumer base. Threats include a budget of only $200,000 allocated for promotion
and VSS s low market share currently within the inland community.
2. Competitive Considerations
Strengths of the Village Surf Shoppe brand include its uniqueness compared to large inland retail
chains, and its current positioning not only as a business but as a casual hangout. Noted that its
weaknesses are the lack of variety in surfboard brands being sold, Perfection is the only one. The fact
that Waller Bear s, Surf City, and Eternal Wave are only local competitors at this point in time, VSS
opportunities have given no indication of plans to fight for inland market share. Threats include the
potential physical in convenience of traveling to VSS over more common national retailers, the market
share of large chains like Ron Jon, the more extensive budget of a large competitor, and the variety of
surfboards available at other stores.

Psychological Factors Of A Serial Killer Essay
Psychological Factors of a Serial Killer
Alyssa Phillips
Caledonia Mumford High School
Abstract
Neurologically, serial killers have common brain structure abnormalities that cause them to lack
emotions as well as to think irrationally. Their family history includes unhappy relationships with their
parents who usually have beaten them or mentally/sexually abused them. This may cause them to be
unable to form healthy relationships and lack empathy and remorse. Serial killers can be distinguished
by their deceitfulness and their need to control people. Depending on if they are organized or
disorganized killer, they have certain personality characteristics. Personality disorders such as
Antisocial and Borderline Personality Disorder, as well as schizophrenia, are common among serial
killers. Since serial killers are exposed to traumatic environments, their brains change their structure in
order to respond to their experiences.
Intro
A serial killer: a person who murders three or more people; taking place over more than a month with
significant breaks in between. How do you tell who these murderers are? How do you distinguish
them from a next door neighbor, a family member, or a friend? By their brain structure, personality
and family history. There is a commonality among serial killers; not just physically but mentally and
neurologically! How they think, how they act, their family history. Several studies into the social

Robinson Crusoe Character Analysis
A person may find someone likeable for many different reasons. Maybe the person is charismatic and
loyal, honest and humble, grateful and trustworthy. The likability of the protagonist in Daniel Defoe s
novel, Robinson Crusoe, is often called into question by many of its readers. The story starts with the
protagonist, Robinson Crusoe, leaving home against his father s wishes to voyage across the sea. But
misfortune fell upon this voyage in the form of a great storm. During this storm, Crusoe prays to God,
saying that if He saved him, Crusoe would serve him for the rest of his life. This storm caused Crusoe
and his shipmates to abandon ship and watch it fonder. He survived, forgot his promise to God, was
deemed bad luck by the captain and the crew, and was directed to never again board a ship. Ignoring
this, Crusoe boarded another ship, on which he and the crew were captured by pirates and sold as
slaves. He was a slave for three years before he escaped with another slave named Xury. They are then
saved by a Portuguese captain, who keeps Xury and takes Crusoe to Brazil. There Crusoe lives a life
similar to what his father wanted for him, a simple yet content life. He at first vowed to never sail
again, but after getting better acquainted with his neighbor, he was persuaded to travel to Africa with
his neighbor to bring slaves, free of cost, back to their farms, breaking this vow. But he proves to,
again, be bad luck. The ship crashes and Crusoe is the only man to survive. Through all this, and
more, Crusoe proves himself to be inconsiderate, selfish, inhumane, and ungrateful, all unlikable
traits. During all of his adventures, Robinson Crusoe was inconsiderate of his shipmates safety and
selfish. His first voyage was literally a shipwreck and it all sparked from his selfish desire to venture
across the seas. He was told by the captain that this was a sign that he was not to be a seafaring man.
(Defoe, 9). Crusoe sailed again, knowing that he was destined for disaster, putting all his shipmates in
danger. And the captain was right. Disaster fell upon him and his shipmates on most of his voyages.
On his second voyage they were boarded and captured by pirates, and sold as slaves. He had almost

Language Used In Oleanna
The quote, The less seen, the more heard. The eye is the enemy of the ear in real drama by Thornton
Wilder, means that what we see distracts us from the real meaning and drama of the play. In the play,
Oleanna, by David Mamet, the visual movement seems important, a piece of the play that it cannot be
without, however it is actually inconsequential. The words, what is heard, carries the action, meaning,
and drama of Oleanna. The words of this play is convoluted and often mean nothing at all, however it
is these qualities that make the words important. The professor often speaks words that sound
interesting but have no meaning and is called out by Carol. He uses language that are flowery, used to
create the idea that he is an intellectual. These words, while having no straight meaning, creates the
overall implication that language is meaningless. This is increased by Carol s frustration at not being
able to understand his lectures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates a clear continuity and imagery that is only helped with visual movement but is not
needed. Without a visual scene to this dialogue, the intensity of the aggressive emotions would
actually be emphasized. In this play, John s overpowering speech and cutting off Carol when she tries
to speak shows that he has control over the situation, that he is in the dominant role. This is later
switched when Carol learns the power of language that she has been able to make everything that he
says or does becomes whatever she defines it to be. If the visual is taken out, the way that she defines
how it happened would be stronger, we would be able to see it more from her

The European Slave Trade
Europeans were looking for a way to trade with china. During this time they managed to stumble
across the americas. At first, europeans just used the americas for its resources. Later they realized
they could take the land. After settling in the americas europeans needed slaves for many reasons.
Portugal started the atlantic slave trade by shipping african slaves from their trading post in Africa.
The Atlantic slave trade had many causes and effects during the Atlantic world which ends up
changing the new world and the way it develops. Africans were chosen as slaves for the atlantic slave
trade. Europeans had easy access to these people. They went to leaders on the coast of Africa and
traded their trade goods for slaves in return. The leaders had often gotten slaves from villages within
africa. The Europeans then took the africans and shipped them across the Atlantic to the new world.

some fundamental conditions must be present. The client must be anxious or incongruent and in
contact with the therapist. Therapists must be genuine, whereby their words, nonverbal mannerisms
and feelings are not to be contradicting. In addition, they must also accept the client and show
unconditional care towards them. The therapist must understand the client s thoughts, the ideas,
experiences, and feelings, when communicating back this empathic understanding
(Murdock, 2009).
Firstly, congruence (genuineness or realness) refers to the therapist s openness, genuineness and the
willingness to relate to clients without hiding behind a professional front.
Therapists who conduct sessions with this sincerity in mind have all their feelings available to them in
therapy sessions and may share significant emotional reactions with their clients.
However, congruence does not mean that therapists shift the focus of therapy to themselves in any
way or have a predetermined direction, or impose a professional agenda to their clients during
sessions. [Corey, 2005]

  • 2. Caregiving Lewis-Personal Narrative Andy Andrew Mrs. K It was a beautiful spring morning in Mound City Missouri. The population was only around 1,000 people. Andrew and I were up bright and early before the peak of dawn. The forecast looked sunny with a touch of fog. We were busy at the hotel preparing for our first morning of the hunt. Andrew don t forget the snacks and Mountain Dew like you did last year, I hinted. With a chuckle, Andrew said, I won t this time, and you make sure we got the shotguns, and shells packed. We can t forget those. Both of us had our stuff together and headed outside to the truck. They made sure they had everything and were off on our 20 minute drive to the field. We got out and unpacked. • 3. The Nature Of Discovery In The Virgin Suicides By Sofia... Discovery is often provoked when the actions of others act as a catalyst, often stimulating personal growth. However, the ramifications are dependent on individual perceptions and the unique context they bring to the process. These ideas are amplified by Shakespeare s Jacobean romance The Tempest, with its array of characters who dramatise this instability through diverse human responses contrasting to the antagonizing nature of discovery. 1999 American drama film, The Virgin Suicides by Sofia Coppola, reflects the collective consciousness of a group reminiscing on past experiences and interactions, opening them to discover personal potential. This process acts as a catalyst for an evaluation of the impact of change, leading to new discoveries. In exploring composer s representations of discoveries, individuals learn the symbiotic relationships of new insights and their intrinsic value. Discoveries that are catalysed by unexpected an unprecedented human interaction, are often the most powerful and lead to immense personal growth. Thus understanding emerges through a range of dramatic forms and features within The Tempest, As the title suggests the work revolves around an extended metaphor, partly concerned with the forces of nature, evident from the very opening of the play as Prospero s elaborate scheme to inflict vengeance on his usurpers in a manner much like the chaotic nature of a storm or tempest. As such, Prospero s, lack of empathy and self awareness is reflected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edward Hopper and Takashi Nakamura draw their paintings to express different feelings. In Edward Hopper s painting Morning Sun (1952), he displays the image of a woman looking outside alone in order to symbolize the woman s feelings about depression, but also how she still has hope for her own life. On the other hand, in Takashi Nakamura painting Kaikaikiki New (2009), he displays the image of many cartoon like characters in order to symbolize feelings of happiness Therefore, the two artists express opposing feelings in their works. She seems to be a single woman and looks tired of her ordinary life. However, her eyes, looking at outside, have strong feeling as well. She has a longing to her ordinary life somehow. Thus, she was sitting on the bed alone, holding her legs, and I can see her struggle for her life. Her eyes tell me her feelings of not only depression but also hope. Also, in Edward Hopper s image, he uses darker and brighter colors to symbolize the depression and hope in this image. Overall, brown and dark brown can be seen throughout the wall, and there is no warm color in her room, such as red or green color. The dark colors give the observer a sad and troubled impression, so the darkness symbolizes the woman s depressed feeling. In addition, when Hopper colored her bed a bluish color, it gives me a cold impression, and she is sleeping on the cold bed during the night. However, Hopper used a lighter color on the place the sunlight spot. She bathes in the sunlight as well, so half of her body is brighter. It is because by painting a brighter color on the half of her body, the observer feels that the figure is receiving light straight at her. So, even though her face looks sad, she is still receiving light from her front so that it makes the observer feel that the woman still has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beacon, Cardon s first large scale, outdoor sculpture, articulates this artistic vision. A new commission for the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, the sculpture consists of two 11 foot concrete towers connected by a canopy of two layers of thin, yellow vinyl coated steel cables. The overlapping lines formed by the cables produce shifting visual effects. In Utopia all people are equal and people voluntarily gave up those freedoms. Draconian laws protect a benevolent state and therefore the population at large. People can be killed or enslaved for breaking the rules. Utopia was ruled by a hierarchy of elected phylarchs within this classless society. The author Thomas More contrasts the Utopia classless society with entrenched European class system which is based on largely on heredity. In Brave New World the world is ruled by a supposed benevolent ruling class. The population is subjugated through the Bokanovsky Process, Podsnap Technique and Hypnopaedia. • 10. The Importance Of Ideas In The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 1920 s, explores the significance of ideals and how working to achieve them can structure one s life. The Novel centers around an egocentric, rich and materialistic group of characters who all share a common value of wealth. However, the character Jay Gatsby, values love more than he values money. Gatsby believes that being with the women he loves, Daisy, the wife of the wealthy Tom Buchanan will make him feel as though he has fulfilled his life. Gatsby s childhood and past have allowed him to realize what he wants most in life, and how he is willing to go to extreme measures to achieve his goals. He dedicates his life to renewing his love with Daisy. The immense effort that he puts into achieving his ideal doesn t allow him to see some of the lousy qualities that daisy possesses. Fitzgerald uses Jay Gatsby to demonstrate how personal experiences can create an ideal, and how pursuing that ideal can shape one s character and structure an individual s life. Gatsby s childhood experiences have taught him how important it is to achieve his goals. His experiences created a hard working, work ethic and made him realize that he s willing to sacrifice almost anything when pursuing his ideals. Aside from few band performances I attended back in middle and elementary school, I was never exposed to the world of concerts and performances. Going into this concert, I was expecting great things since it was my first college concert. To my expectations, everything seemed perfect when I first walked in. The lighting of the opera house was set just right and I could see all the performers lined up in front with their instruments ready to play. There were many instruments playing during the performances. I noticed saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and several instruments such as the guitar and piano that kept the rhythm going. There was a conductor during the performance leading all the performers on when to play. It was apparent that he did a great job since all the instruments were in sync and played at all the right times. Overall the audience was extremely respectful. • 12. Oscar Wilde s Character, Jack Worthing, And The Other Oscar Wilde s protagonist, Jack Worthing, carries on two distinct identities throughout the play. One of the personas is a countryman in Hertfordshire named Jack Worthing, and the other is a dandy in London named Ernest. Wilde intentionally creates two different characters, which are contradictory to the reader s expectation whenever they first read the characters names. The name Ernest correlates with the actual definition of the adjective earnest, which means a person who is honest, serious, and sincere. Later in the play, Jack realizes his name is actually John, however both have the same connotation. Gwendolyn states in the first act, there is very little music in the name Jack... I ve known several Jacks, and they all without exception were more than usually plain (Wilde 25). Evidently, in the Victorian Era, a man with the name Jack or John was expected to be plain or a man who is not a dandy, but an ordinary man who has responsibilities. The names Wilde gave to his characters seem to be appropriate, however, once the reader dissects the play, the names Jack and Ernest would have been better applied to their counterparts. The brilliant title that Oscar Wilde gives his play is a pun in itself. The pun depends on not only the adjective earnest, but after the farce has ended the audience will recognize that there is an actual importance in being a gentleman named Ernest. The overall purpose is to create security for the domestic industry from the imported product. These products can sometimes be less expensive to purchase than the goods being manufactured in the local economy. (McEachern, 2015) The government does this either stimulate or deflate trade with other countries. (Fontinelle, 2012) There are quite a few forms of tariffs that the government may apply based on the condition of the country s economic welfare. The pros and cons of these forms of tariffs will be reviewed. Discussion on how these tariffs positively or negatively affects the economic stance of the country will be displayed. Audience: Persons with a high level of interest in the history and development of film, specifically vampire or German Expressionist film. The book discusses how Nosferatu is an important milestone in cinematic history for its pioneering in both the creation of the vampire icon and its use of cutting edge film techniques, so people with an advanced interest in the history of film would find this book appealing. She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto the introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally describes the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From there, she discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their expertise contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they presented the movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker s lawsuit against the Prana film company damaged the movie s reputation and popularity. From there she describes how the plot of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy of Horror of an onset phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As the chapter progresses, Massaccesi s description of the plot includes lengthy and in depth analyses of each character in terms of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she considers the significance of various aspects of the film in relation to the film s events and characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole, applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder associated with Romantic artwork. • 20. Stereotypes In Social Psychology Paper Aside from arising from mental shortcuts, it has also been proposed that stereotypes are a result of group conflict (Sherif, 1966). Regularly, individuals behave in a way that is expected of them in order to uphold the impressions others have of them. Thus, individuals act accordingly and embody the stereotype which is projected upon them (Baumeister Bushman). The degree to which we rely on stereotypes when establishing judgements of others has been widely investigated in the field of social psychology. Frequently, the harmful consequences of relying on stereotypes is noted with the potential of this tendency to lead to prejudice and discrimination. Furthermore, these processes are potentially subject to bias due to the assimilative effects of existing knowledge on information processing (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). It is essential to comprehend these concepts before delving into the importance of stereotypes when forming impressions of others. In the initial stage of developing schemas, they allow the individual to ignore what is perceived to be unimportant or unnecessary details of a situation, thus reducing the complexity of the information (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). Indeed, schemas guide behaviour and allow a platform for individuals to make mental shortcuts and damaging stereotypes, they can also simplify life and are useful in every day situations (Macrae, Stangor Hewstone, 1996). For example, if one had an existing stereotype that guns are dangerous and hastily decided to move to the other side of the street after noticing a man with a gun this would be an extremely useful and possibly life saving use of a stereotype. Summary Of In Cold Blood By Truman Capote In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Entry #1: Speaker Truman Capote is described in the biography section of the book as being born in 1924 in New Orleans. He, over his lifetime, wrote a variety of works from short stories to memoirs. In the acknowledgments, he says that the information presented in the book is taken from official records or is the result of interviews. He then goes on to mention some of the important people to help make the book happen like the members of Finney County, the place where the event happened, and notable members of institutions like Kansas State University and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote did not find any of the information first hand, nor is he from the state in which the crime occurred. He simply wrote a clear account of what happened by using interviews and police notes after the fact. Truman Capote s relationship to the topic was simply that he volunteered to be the voice of a case that otherwise might not have been heard throughout the country and around the world in full detail and for years to come. Throughout the book, Capote establishes himself as a qualified and trustworthy writer through his use of ethos, or credibility. He shows the degree of precision and accuracy of his facts by mentioning highly trusted individuals and organizations. • 31. Robinson Crusoe Character Analysis A person may find someone likeable for many different reasons. Maybe the person is charismatic and loyal, honest and humble, grateful and trustworthy. The likability of the protagonist in Daniel Defoe s novel, Robinson Crusoe, is often called into question by many of its readers. The story starts with the protagonist, Robinson Crusoe, leaving home against his father s wishes to voyage across the sea. But misfortune fell upon this voyage in the form of a great storm. During this storm, Crusoe prays to God, saying that if He saved him, Crusoe would serve him for the rest of his life. This storm caused Crusoe and his shipmates to abandon ship and watch it fonder. He survived, forgot his promise to God, was deemed bad luck by the captain and the crew, and was directed to never again board a ship. Ignoring this, Crusoe boarded another ship, on which he and the crew were captured by pirates and sold as slaves. He was a slave for three years before he escaped with another slave named Xury. They are then saved by a Portuguese captain, who keeps Xury and takes Crusoe to Brazil. There Crusoe lives a life similar to what his father wanted for him, a simple yet content life. He at first vowed to never sail again, but after getting better acquainted with his neighbor, he was persuaded to travel to Africa with his neighbor to bring slaves, free of cost, back to their farms, breaking this vow. But he proves to, again, be bad luck. The ship crashes and Crusoe is the only man to survive. Through all this, and more, Crusoe proves himself to be inconsiderate, selfish, inhumane, and ungrateful, all unlikable traits. During all of his adventures, Robinson Crusoe was inconsiderate of his shipmates safety and selfish. His first voyage was literally a shipwreck and it all sparked from his selfish desire to venture across the seas. He was told by the captain that this was a sign that he was not to be a seafaring man. (Defoe, 9). Crusoe sailed again, knowing that he was destined for disaster, putting all his shipmates in danger. And the captain was right. Disaster fell upon him and his shipmates on most of his voyages. On his second voyage they were boarded and captured by pirates, and sold as slaves.
