Lois Prunesworth s Argumentative Essay
Lois Prunesworth hated technology with the firiest of passions. Everywhere she looked, young
people were always on their phones and computers, paying more attention to how many friends
they had on social media than how many friends they had in the real world. She found it
absolutely deplorable. Wherever she went, she always made certain that anyone 40 years
younger than her knew that she did not approve of whatever electronic device was on their
person. While she was waiting in line at the supermarket, she made sure to tell the girl texting in
front of her that, when she was a girl as young as she was, she had to walk 2 miles, backwards,
uphill, through the snow in order to socialize with any of her friends. When she took her dog, Fifi,...

anyone out kicking cans or playing tag anymore, all everyone does is play Anger Birds and
watch dumb videos. It s deplorable! It s ridiculous! I swear, there s no hope for this generation.
The confrontation lasted a whole 5 minutes, in which Ms. Prunesworth unloaded practically all
she had to say about technology. The old bag practically screamed at the poor young woman, her
dentures gnashing together, causing a bit of foam to form at the corners of her jowls. The girl s
phone was ringing during this time, but she was too stunned to notice. When she finally checked
back, she noticed she had a missed call, and cried out in despair. You made me miss the call! I
can t believe you! You re darned right I did! That ll teach you whippersnappers to pay more

The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Robert Louis Stevenson, a Scottish author, wrote The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
It is a horror and a science fiction book. The story took place in London, England, during the
Victorian era. Mr. Utterson knew something was wrong when his cousin Richard Enfield told
him of Mr. Edward Hyde, an ugly, cruel man. Richard Enfield told him he witnessed a man
named Mr. Hyde mercilessly tramping on a young girl, and to avoid getting in trouble with the
authorities, he gave the girl s family a cheque of a hundred Pounds, which was signed by none
other than Mr. Utterson s client and good friend Dr. Jekyll. Mr. Utterson was familiar with Mr.
Hyde s name because Dr. Jekyll noted Mr. Hyde as the main beneficiary in his will. Although Mr.

same time. He would transform into Mr. Hyde, when he would take the portion and transform
back to his old self, when he would take the portion again. Dr. Jekyll wrote his conscious wasn t

Maori Culture Essay
Kia Ora, my name is Te Mahia Millanta and I am a extramural student studying marketing and
economics. I chose this paper as an elective and was interested in developing my knowledge of
Maori culture. I will now discuss the impact of Maori values and concepts as they relate to the
study of a specific discipline, marketing.
From the well known All black haka to professional golfer Michael Campbell s clothing label,
Cambo, the culture of Maori and their brand are helping New Zealand position itself in an ever
increasing global market. New Zealand government officials first warned Fiat (car
manufacturer), whom launched and advertisement of woman imitating the Ka mate haka last
year that it would be seen as insensitive to Maori and the New Zealand public. The irony of
course is that this is certainly not the first time that an international company has trespassed into
our culture and more likely it won t be the last. The elaborate form of the traditional challenge is
not often seen these days. It is largely reserved for special occasions such as visits by senior
dignitaries. However, the principles that underpin the traditional rituals are still retained in a
modern form (Guide, 2014). Recently New Zealand has been awarded second place in the world in
terms of authentic brands in terms of distinctive, unique and genuine cultures. Brand strategist
Brian Richards adds, Maori culture can add value to New Zealand s identity in such a significant
way . Nevertheless as outraged

Starbucks Operational Strategy Essay
STARBUCKS OPERATIONS STRATEGY
STRATEGIES IMPLEMENTED
I. Expand its product offerings and enter new market segments * Starbucks expanded to pursue
sales of products in a variety of distribution channels and market segments. Products were marketed
to restaurants, airlines, hotels, universities, hospitals, business offices, country clubs, and select
retailers. In the airline industry, Starbucks coffee was served in flights United Airlines and United
Airlines. Packets of Starbucks coffee along with coffee making equipment were made available in
each room in Hyatt, Hilton, Sheraton, Radisson and Westin Hotels. Coffee service was also
provided in several Wells Fargo banks in California. Foodservice distributors such as Sysco

As such, large store will have a greater variety of products while smaller stores and kiosks will
typically only carry the beverages, and a limited selection of whole bean and ground coffees, Tazo
teas, and coffee accessories. They also adapt the Stores to local cultures. Starbucks has clearly
achieved its goal of improving its business through better products. The next step for the company
is to introduce these new products all their channels and develop new channels for distribution as
well. In order to continue its global expansion, the company must never fail to take into account that
the local tastes of the country before they introduce these new products into the market.
II. Coffee purchasing strategy
* Starbucks purchases and markets Fair Trade Certified Coffee. They make sure that the prices
paid for the green (unroasted) coffee were high enough that it would be able to cover the
production costs of small farmers and provide for their families.
* Through fixed price purchasing agreements, Starbucks was able to protect itself from the
volatility of coffee prices and sudden price hikes due to weather, economic and political conditions
in the growing countries. It also created new agreements establishing export quotas and has
periodic efforts to bolster prices by restricting coffee supplies.
* The company also works directly with small coffee growers, local coffee growing cooperatives

Abstract
Having fixed term Parliaments in the United Kingdom is something that has been debated across
the political spectrum for some years and, with the enactment of the Fixed Term Parliaments Act
2011, is no longer something which is merely debated, but a political and constitutional reality. The
Act came into force with little consultation, research, or advice to or by the Government; it was
exceptionally hurried legislation. This means that there is little written on the wider constitutional
effects of the Act, and it is exactly that which this essay will try to examine.
To analyse the Act s significance I have looked at the position prior to the Act and what the Act
changed, before moving on to examining and critically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be done with a vote of a two thirds majority in the House of Commons to call such an
election.8 A general election can also be called early if a vote of no confidence is passed on the
Government, with a simple majority in the House of Commons. Fourteen days after such a
declaration, if there has not been a vote of confidence in the Government, then an early general
election will take place.9

Arguments in favour of fixed term Parliaments being significant:
The first argument that these changes are constitutionally significant is simple; it is the
codification of a royal prerogative, pragmatically wielded solely by the Prime Minister, into a
power for the legislature as a whole. It is a rebalancing of power within the British Constitution.
When talking about this power Leyland said the Royal Prerogative to dissolve Parliament on the
advice of the Prime Minister was regarded as a core feature of the constitution ,10 from this then,
we can surmise that the loss of this power is constitutionally significant.
It also represents something

The Victim Of Fate In Oedipus The King By Sophocles
The belief in Greek Philosophy, is the belief that someone s fate is determined by their actions
and decisions that have been made in their life. The Greeks believed that fate is accepted because
it is difficult to avoid. According to Oedipus the King by Sophocles, Oedipus is in control of his
own fate, though not until the point at which he seeks out to the oracles to ask about his past. He
could have went to the prophecy, instead, he takes action on his own which entirely changes his
fate. The prophecy was destined, for Oedipus, to marry his mother and killhis father. Oedipus may
be a victim of fate, however he is not innocent and did have to live with his mistake in the outcome
of his life.
In addition, to his irony of fate, shows that he has a fate of pride. His fate of pride forced him to
murder his own father. The evidence of Oedipus efforts can be found certainly towards him
leaving his parents who raised him in order to save them and to avoid fulfilling the prophecy. He
fails in this effort, offering some strong proof that he is a victim of fate. Oedipus s pride soon
prevents him from seeing the truth. Oedipus is blinded by his pride because he cannot accept his
fate due to the certainty that he tries to avoid his own fate. Had Oedipus not had so much pride, he
would listened to Creon and Teiresias ideal belief of who had really killed King Laius, which was
Oedipus. The evidence of Oedipus efforts can be found that he accuses his brother, Creon, of trying

Epic Poetry By Homer And Catullus Essay
From ancient Greek to Roman literature, styles and genres in writing changed drastically. The
Greeks were adamant on showing their extensive knowledge of myth, often referencing the most
obscure myths. The gods mentioned in their poems often had crucial roles necessary for
developing the plot, or they were the reason the story began at all. The Romans however were
very educated, and showed this in their works by referencing older Greek literature or authors
instead of direct myths. Another drastic difference in the divergent genres, namely epics and lyrics,
is the expression of love, which through Homer and Catullus, shows us how love can be
expressed as erotic, familial, or as a love of place by the protagonists and secondary characters,
despite whether it is the primary or secondary theme. In Greek literature a prominent author is
Homer, whom we don t know if actually existed or if Homer is a pseudonym for a collective
group of writers. Homer is popular for writing epic poetry, which follows the heroic journey of the
protagonist through a lengthy narrative. In epics, the poet focuses on the main character s search
for kleos, the only thing a proper hero requires. In the Iliad, while the search for kleos is a major
theme, love is also portrayed in many different respects. The love shown between Hector and his
wife Andromache is one very strong example of the theme of love. At this time, love was not
something people strived to achieve. Marriages were often used to

Amphotericin B Research Paper
Sterols are categorized as organic molecules, specifically a lipid. A common trait a lipid has is it is
insoluble to water. The chemical structure includes four carbon fused molecules with an additional
oxygen molecule attached. The most known animal sterol is cholesterol. Cholesterol is
fundamental to the structure of the cell membrane. It also functions as a fat soluble in the body.
In order for amphotericin B to work, there must be sterols present. This is because it is susceptible
to sterols. A bacterial membrane does not contain sterols, which means it can t be used as an agent
against bacterial infection. The antibiotic amphotericin B is an antifungal drug because Fungi have
sterol in its membrane.

Management Style At Arizona Central Credit Union
Organizational Management Approach Analysis
The management approach of any one organization is unique and varied based on the needs of the
business or the type of organization. When developing this management approach, in my opinion, it
is critical to adapt and to use many sources of knowledge to be successful. These sources of
knowledge can be traced to historical theories that have been developed throughout recent history,
and are critical to the understanding of how practical applications can be successfully used. It is
also argued that modern students of management do not have the practical understanding or
awareness of these historical theories because of the misguided curriculum and lack of interest
(Cummings Bridgman, 2011). The purpose of this paper approaches some historical theories in
comparison to the modern management style within a credit union to demonstrate the use of these
theories as a management tool.
Management Style at Arizona Central Credit Union
The management style at Arizona Central Credit Union, one of my former employers, is complex
and varies between the departments both by design and by regulation. The credit union and its
management team draws from various historical and contemporary approaches and theories to help
the employees and the organization attain set goals and standards while maximizing the potential of
their employees and products.
Bureaucracy Theory

The Philosophy Of Science And Science
Before this class began, I thought of myself as a person who tended to lean towards science as
fact based and found it hard to believe in some philosophical and religious claims that were not
backed up by experimentation and evidence. Five weeks later, my views haven t changed
drastically, but have instead been developed and broadened. I now understand the importance of the
philosophy of scienceand why philosophy and science should be interconnected. The need to
question things that may appear to be factual is something I now consider more than ever crossed
my mind before this course. At the beginning of the course, starting in Lecture One, we discussed
the problem of knowledge and the nature of scientific knowledge. The problem of... Show more

Examples like the theory of Plate Tectonics or the Alvarez Theory of mass extinction are cited as
examples of theory acceptance and when it is appropriate. The overarching theme from Losee is
that there are no rules that can objectively decide the acceptance or rejection of a new theory.
This is a confusing aspect of science, but is reflected in the history of scientific discoveries and
those theories we still hold to be true. Some theories are not necessarily confirmed, but are at the
very least agreed upon from empirical observations. By Lecture Four we covered multiple
conceptions of method. Method is central to the scientific enterprise. The founders of modern
science were looking for an impersonal, objective basis for their knowledge claims. This was
coming at a time when science was separating from religion based belief systems. Method is crucial
to determining truth and developing scientific hypotheses. Without a method in place, the goal of
objectivity within science is compromised. Method is discussed throughout the entirety of Losee s
book. Losee generously discusses theory acceptance, rejection, falsification, and replacement. He
aims to show the method behind these based on historical accounts in science, but as stated before,
there is no set group of rules that govern this. Instead the development of hypotheses and theories
that we take are integrated, comprehensive explanation of many facts. These hypotheses and

White Collar Crime Control Theory
This paper aims to provide the reader with understanding of white collar crime and more
specifically on money laundering. The strain theory will be discussed in further detail to show
how it explains money laundering. Control theory will also be discussed to show how it does not
explain money laundering. The two theories will help the reader the understand why it is the
crimes are committed. First, I will give an overview of what white collar crimeis. I will then explain
money launderingspecifically. I will also briefly discuss the statute currently in place for money
laundering and what is being done to prevent it from happening. Then I will connect money
laundering to the movie American Hustle. This will allow the reader to connect the crime to a
modern day example. Finally, I will end with my conclusion and shed light on the answered
questions and challenges on the topic.
While white collar crime can be defined in various ways, in the textbook, Understanding White
Collar Crime, it is defined as crime committed by a person of respectability and high social status

The statute regarding money laundering is Section В§ 1956(a)(1). To prove the statute has been
violated, The defendant conducted or attempted to conduct, financial transaction (Strader 295). This
means that there has to be sufficient evidence to show the person was conspiring or has actually
committed the act of money laundering. Although this is in place, money laundering is still
happening. Money laundering is not a crime that takes place in one location, but rather all over the
world. There should more done to enforce the monetary transactions of companies. I believe if there
were more audits on corporations, more white collar criminals would be caught. Because most
places are not strictly monitored, they can get away with money

The Bats Reproductive Technique And The Evidence For An...
The New Zealand Lesser Short tailed bat (Mystacina tuberculata) is an endangered bat, endemic
to New Zealand. It diverges into three subspecies, of which two are endangered and one is at
risk (Department of Conservation [DOC], 2012). It is one of three original native bat species in
New Zealand with only two of those species still found today. The Lesser Short tails are
microbats, with pre foraging adults weighing between 10 to 22 grams (Carter Riskin, 2006). An
adult body length can extend up to 70mm and with an average wingspan between 280 300mm
wide (Carter Riskin, 2006). They have a brown grey coat colour that lightens in the ventral areas
and similar skin colour (Carter Riskin, 2006).
Due to its endangered status, understanding the Lesser Short tailed bats reproductive cycle is
essential in helping conserve the species and stabilize the population. This essay will explore the
bats reproductive technique and the evidence for an annual cycle, which can be seen to make
anatomical, behavioural and physiological changes to the bats (Racey Entwistle, 2000). The male
anatomical and physiological changes have not had a sufficient in depth study, however their
behavioural changes a can clearly be seen (Krutzsch, 2000). On the other hand female anatomical
and physiological changes have been explored a little more and there is more information available
on those changes. Changes include behavioural courtship, anatomical and physiological fluctuation

Synthesis Tert-Butyl Chloride Sn2 Report
In order to synthesis tert butyl chloride, HCl is used in a substitution reaction to displace an OH
molecule that is connected to the tert butyl molecule. Substitution reactions for alkyl halides can
go one of two ways; an Sn1 reaction or an Sn2 reaction. An Sn1 reaction is unimolecular (only
depends on the substrate), and requires a very weak nucleophile, a polar protic solvent and favors
tertiary alkyl halides as the electrophiles. An Sn2 reaction is the opposite and is bimolecular
(depends on the substrate and nucleophile), requires a very strong nucleophile, a polar aprotic
solvents and favors primary alkyl halides as the electrophile. There are a number of factors that can
affect the efficiency of these reactions. An Sn2 reaction is affected

Posttructuralism And Structuralism
Poststructuralism mainly criticizes the dependence of structuralism on tradition and opposes
traditional structuralism to focus research on objectivity and rationality. It attempts to restore
irrational tendencies, pursue from the logic, but produce non logical results. There is seldom a
coherent theory in the field of poststructuralism, but each theory begins with a critique of
Structuralism. Take the documentary as an example, in the view of the poststructuralist theorists,
there is nothing else other than ideology, and any objective and true claim is doubtful in the
documentary expression. For many people, such a poststructuralist approach is disappointing. If the
documentary cannot get any form of objectivity or authenticity, even full of fiction like other
feature film, then, how does documentary confirm its identity and value? For the moment, the
response of the theorists to this issue is not sufficient, but I am in favor of Carl s point of view.
Carl (1996) argues that the theory of poststructuralism and postmodernism is untenable as a
philosophy. Also, as a basis for political analysis and political action, it is a failure. The research on
poststructuralism is political, because many poststructuralists believe that the world which people
living now is just a social construct, and there are many different ideology promoters who want to
be hegemonic. This is obviously not acceptable.
The documentary is a non fictional art technique. It restore and record the past or

Newton Raphson Power Flow Solutions using MATLAB ID: 1501113 Summary The power
flow analysis involves the calculations of power flows and voltages of a transmission network
for specified terminal or bus condition. Such calculations are required for the analysis of steady
state as well as dynamic performance of power systems [1]. The power flow is also called load
flow. Some classification should be represented before carry out the analysis of power flow.
Such as, the bus classifications or types like voltage controlled bus (PV), load bus (PQ) or slack
bus (Swing). In addition to that, the representation of network elements should be considered and
the magnitude calculated in per unit. The iterative techniques are used to solve the power flow
equations such as Gauss Seidel, Newton Raphson and Decoupled Newton Raphson methods.
Each method has its equations and principle to reach the solution. The difference between them
appeared in which method is more accurate and fast to get the results. The system which
assigned to be solved by Newton Raphson and Decoupled Newton Raphson methods includes

Wasteness In Snow Country
Snow Country
In the novel Snow Country by Kawabata, the author uses the snow country environment in the
book to bring out the wastefulness experienced by Shimamura in various ways. This is best seen
in instances when Shimamura is able to observe and reflect on activities going on around him
while he is engaged in his surroundings and environment. Komako, an essential part of Shimamura
s snow country experience, helps him experience multiple instances when he notices the
wastefulness in her life such as her useless dairy, wasted love, and effort between the both of them.
With regard to Komako, Shimamura is able to realize the waste in his own life.

To Shimamura, there is no purpose in climbing to the top of a mountain only to have to go back

attracted to wastefulness. After describing mountain climbing as a model of wasted effort, it is
explained that For that very reason it pulled at him with the attraction of the unreal (112). This
can help explain why Shimamura is so attracted to the snow country, a place difficult to get to and
with nothing significant and meaningful to do, and Komako, an object of lust that portrays
experiences of wasted effort. Shimamura is unique in that he can recognize and accept waste as a

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are incredibly indecisive, and they just get dragged away by the
currents on the river of life. They are always being told what to do and where to go, and they
never question it. They never stop and think, maybe, we don t have to do this. Unfortunately, they
don t notice this until too late. Once they knew they were doomed, Guildenstern reminisces that at
some point, there had to have been a time where they could have said no; where they could have
stopped all of this from happening. It didn t matter anymore though. They were done. This play is
saying that people need to take charge of their lives, and make their own decisions. Don t just let

they were really missing was their identities. Neither Rosencrantz nor Guildenstern had fully

essence, they were the same, and interchangeable. This was made clear throughout the duration of

Puritans Ethics And The Pinto Disaster
It is important to note, however, that Puritans ethics have been the catalyst that accelerated the
growth of capitalism (Weber 107). At the same time, Puritans ethics initiated a formal and
instrumental approach to life (115). In the case of the Pinto Disaster, Weber would claim that
Ford s decision to settle in lawsuits, instead of installing the safety gadget, is a mathematical
approach to life. Firstly, Weber would argue that bureaucracies structure has created a hierarchy
system where workers are powerless and have fewer obligations. According to Dowie, the Pinto

powerless engineer did not have the approval of his superior make the necessary

Language and Memory Paper
Introduction
Language is important to the way we communicate. Semantic memory is acquired over the years
and is vital to language. Language becomes second nature when we already know what, when and
how to say something. We form sentences, phrases, paragraphs by planning what we say and how
we will say it. Most people believe that when we speak, it is without thought and is done
unconsciously. However, in this paper I will seek to explain the relationship between semantic
memory and language production.

For every action, there is a reason for it. We have to appreciate our cognitive processes and
continuing to understand how they work and what goes into making them work is so rewarding.
Analyze the basic functions of language
Pinker (1994c) esteems language as the jewel in the crown of cognition. Language serves the
purpose of communicating or revealing our cognitive processes. The beautiful thing about language
is that it is one of most complex and valuable aspect of cognition (Robinson Riegler amp; Robinson
Riegler, 2008). Babies are able to learn language and sometime understand the language before they
can speak it. There are different types of languages: sign language, English, Spanish, Dutch, French,
Braille. All of these are ways that people communicate with one another depending on their culture
and mental/physical circumstances (deaf, blind).
One characteristic of language is that everything we refer to is symbolized by a word. The way
we put words in a sentence and combine them to make sense, would conclude that we have a basic
understanding of what role words play in a sentence (noun, verb, pronoun). We would not know
this if not through language. Through language we are able to speak, write, read and understand.
As Robinson Riegler (2008) brings out, all the words a person knows comprise their mental
lexicon and is a part of our semantic memory.
When we talk about language, we also should

Essay On Hurricane
Around a month ago, Mother Nature unleashed its potential power towards the south of the United
States. First, hurricane Harvey did a great damage on the Southern part of Texas as a Category 4. A
few weeks later, another two major hurricanes, hurricane Maria and Irma, did the greatest damage
in the Caribbean Islands. The good thing is the U.S government and many cooperation s stepped in
to help its American citizens because it s the duty of the government. Therefore, FEMA (Federal
Emergency Management Agency), the agency of the United States Department of Homeland
Security, where it ensures to help all American citizens from any hazards, stepped in to help the
American citizens from Texas and Puerto Rico. However, it seems that the... Show more content on

Since Puerto Rico is in the middle of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, they should ve
prepared the military ships to leave right after the second hurricane destroyed the rest of Puerto
Rico. Therefore, I would ensure that FEMA responds right away to any part of the United States
because all American Citizens deserve to be treated equality. For example, if the government
gave Texans 15 billion dollars, therefore Puerto Rico should get more than that because of the
critical condition it is. I know a lot of Texans were impacted tremendously but they got help from
the surrounding states and faster help because it was in the United States. Overall, I would
make a policy that ensure every citizen gets help as soon as possible. Furthermore, another
policy I would make in case of any natural disaster emergency for any state to get the same
distribution, is to classify how much help it needs besides money. For example, Texas and
Florida were some of the states that were affected but we know they will get help faster because
of their location. I know people that live in California but they traveled to Texas to help.
Everybody was asking for donations asking for food, water, and clothes to help everybody in
need. So, everybody was helping because it s the moral duty to help others when somebody needs
help. Furthermore, I know that many American Citizens are going to help because we can get to
that destination that needs help. However, if any state that is outside of the

Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving
Social Issue Campaign:
Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving In the United States approximately every 52 minutes there is a
fatality caused by drinking and driving. This issue has been one of the most talked about social
issues in the last 30 years. The Ad Council has been one of the main voices behind the increasing
knowledge of this issue. With their campaign Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving they have been able
to create a better understand of what drunk driving is. With the Ad Council s use of fatality rate,
finical loss and pledges to not drive buzzed, they have crafted a way to raise awareness of this
problem in the United States. In 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor the War Advertising
Council was established to offer advertising services towards the efforts of World War II. When
the war ended the word war was dropped from the name, and the Ad Council was born. Since then
the Ad Council has offered trusted advice and inspiring calls to action. In fact, we created the
category of public service advertising, and our icons and slogans are woven into the very fabric of
American culture . (Ad Council)
The Ad Council has been creating awareness on numerous social issues for many years they are
the leading producer of public service advertisements in the United States, raising awareness and
inspiring action on a diversity of issues, from texting and driving to autism awareness . (Ad

LSD In The Mouse Party
The Mouse Party interactive experiment, released by The University of Utah, was quite an
interesting and bizarre way to learn how drugs affect the brain. My prior knowledge on this subject
matter was rather small, therefore my interest in this experiment was elevated. I chose to discuss
three drugs that interested me the most in this reflection. LSD was the first drug that struck my
curiosity when learning about the compound components to. Thus to no surprise, the rat that was
on it was picked first. LSD relies almost completely on the serotonin neurons in the brainby
rearranging and binding them together to create array of effects on the body. LSD is known for the

Cocaine works by temporarily blocking dopamine transporters in the brain, leaving the synaptic
cleft built up with excess dopamine, causing the cell to get overstimulated. This effects the reward
center of the brain, making the user feel a sensation of positive feelings for a short amount of time,
therefore making it highly addictive. Moving onto methamphetamine (meth), in my opinion, by far
the worst drug out off all the others in this experiment. Meth is introduced to the body through
inhalation or injection, causing the dopamine transporters in the brain to start working in reverse.
Due to this, dopamine floods the synapse causing the body to have intense sensations of happiness
and pleasure for a short period of time. A result in using this, will deplete your dopamine levels
causing a dependency on the drug to feel happiness or pleasure. The information that was presented
to me over the course of the mouse party interactive experiment, had been very beneficial to my
understanding of how drugs effect the brain. Everything in this experiment correlated to what we
learned about in lecture last Thursday, making it easier to understand the physiology in the

The Relationship Between Huckleberry Finn And The Former...
During the time of slavery, there wasn t much interaction between whites and blacks. Most African
Americans in the southern states were under slavery, and had certain limits they couldn t break.
The relationship between Huckleberry Finn and the former slave Jim, was very unique and
complex at times. During their trip down the Mississippi, Huck s conscience was catching up to
him. Knowing and embracing the consequences of helping a slave run away, Huck and Jim always
stuck together throughout the novel. Throughout Huck s life, he was raised on racismfrom his father
and the town around him. The Widow he had lived with, had a lot of slaves on their property.
One of them, which was Jim. This was always hard on Huck, because he felt like the Widow did
a lot for him in his life, and he betrayed her by keeping Jim safe. Also, Huck never had that one
meaningful person in his life he could look up too. Jim was filling that position throughout the
novel, because Huck had feelings that he thought he would never have for a slave. I believe this
element of the story is connected to the idea of being American because during this time, slaves
often tried to escape. The way Jim had escaped, mimics the stories of the famous Underground
Railroad. So, Mark Twainthrows in some historical examples that mirrors this trip.
While Huck Is feeling guiltier for his decision to run away with Jim, he has many chances to give
him up. The first example comes when two men on a skiff with guns ask Huck

What do we value? Where are our priorities? In whom do we put our trust? These are the
questions our lessons ask today. And these are the questions, we as Concordia Lutheran Church,
have been asking and continue to ask. Our scripture today, not only ask the questions, but
answers them, too. And we, as Concordia, can gain insight, excitement, and hope from the
answers. My first few days with you, I was not here in Superior, I was at Heartwood Conference

I was able to meet many of the pastors from our synod. Thank you for giving me that opportunity.

Caring for the Poor and Making Disciples. That s what we are to be about as a church. And that s
exactly what our lessons for today talk about. Our Old TestamentText from Amos speaks judgment

the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament), we constantly hear God calling the Israelites to care

Romanticism And Gothicism In Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey
The class of the novel started just in the eighteenth century however since its exceptionally
beginning it grew quickly. The distinctive sorts of the class gain for instance a novel of conduct, a
household novel or a Gothic novel. The Gothic novel is a well unmistakable sort among the others
and has a critical effect on the improvement of the entire type of the novel. In opposition to
Neoclassicism which adulated realism, Gothicism did not trail the principles of etiquette, did not
matter instructive highlights but rather put highlight on secret, ponder and sublimity. Along these
lines, Gothic fictionincreased tremendous prevalence among the users. In any case, after numerous
books of the kind being distributed, they ended up being regular too every one of the stories

Jane Austen displays the differentiation between the world as it is and the world as seen by the

It activated the concept of an active life as opposed to the contemplated life. During the medieval
period, people were living in contemplation, but with the rebirth of knowledge, people were
obligated to take the active measure in making life worth living, while also taking care of other
social beings. The man in the renaissance perspective should promote the cultural life with positive
and active engagement with the public life. In doing so, human beings should seek and acquire
significant knowledge in different areas to make it great. The human person should check his or her
moral, military and political actions while undertaking the service to the state. While doing so, they
should take into consideration the individual achievements, personal aspiration and the breadth of

In conclusion, it is inferential that the Renaissance period gave a greater measure of attention to

the emphasis was on human positive interaction to make sure that people live harmoniously not

The Cantigas De Santa Maria Essay
The Cantigas de Santa Maria is one of the largest collections of monophonic songs from the
Middle Ages and is branded by the mention of the Virgin Mary in all 427 songs. The Cantigas are
written in Galician Portuguese, a poetic language in Castile at the time. The musical forms within
the Cantigas, are still being studied. There is a plethora of variations, but no musical forms have
been considered standard. In my analysis, I noticed a relationship between the refrain and the end
of the stanzas which tend to repeat the same melodic material. The refrain begins the poem and is
repeated after each stanza; in addition, the final portion of the stanza is displayed on the refrain,
beckoning its imminent return. Each Cantiga has very in depth syllabic patterns that work in
attendem with the repeated refreain After reviewing the translations of my Cantigas it seems the
verse of the repeated refrain ties in the moral of the poem and offers praise to Holy Mary. An
example is the refrain in Cantiga 36, a ship at sea. We should all love with all our will the lady who
frees us from troubles and storms.
The refrain in my opinion eludes to the idea of storm being a metaphor for the trouble you face in
everyday life, and you must praise in the storm so that the Virgin Mary can eviscerate the darkness
in your life. Another stand out feature of the Cantigas are the illuminations that accompany them in
the codices. These beautiful illustrations map out the story of the Cantiga, and

Ideas are never at least fully one s own, but rather an expression of correlating thoughts in daily life

The first sermon that Father Flynn presents to the congregation is doubt, a theme that he believes

Administrative Reports
Overview with tools, software, best practices and alternatives
What is an administrative report?
An administrative report is a document that presents the status and progress of certain work within

Who does administrative reports?
An administrative report is usually done by a person with an administrative function. Common
examples are office secretaries and administrative delegates. Those with higher position such as
managers and supervisors are also eligible to create an administrative report.

Disadvantages of administrative reports
While administrative reports help in the workflow of a team s project, it also presents some flaws.
Some administrative reports have inaccurate or incomplete information, which may adversely affect
the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of data. For instance, inaccuracy of the
numbers in an inventory report in an administrative report may affect the succeeding shipment of
products. Another example is a list of cases in an administrative report in a hospital. Failure to list
all kinds of cases may change the results when data are analyzed.
The other negative point in administrative reports is that some readers only read the end part the
summary, conclusion, and recommendation. It may sometimes end up the reader asking questions,
instead of reading the whole paper.

Family Structures And The Family Structure Essay
It is commonly accepted in contemporary society that family structures are defined as being either
a nuclear family, or one that strays away from that. According to Dalton Conley in the fourth
edition of You May Ask Yourself, the nuclear family is defined as a familial form consisting of a
father, a mother, and their children (453). By definition and contemporary societal norms, my family
would be categorized as abnormal or different. Having been raised in an apartment in the Bronx,
New York with only my mother, I have a different idea of what normal familial structures tend to
be. Despite being brought up in a home with a single mother, I have a vivid recollection of those
in my hometown being raised in very similar circumstances. Similarly, it seems everyone around
me had the same sort of familial story : raised by one parent, occasionally spoke to your parents
siblings and hung out with your first cousins, have a crazy uncle. To people of different
demographics than myself and my family, these characteristics may appear to be unfamiliar and
atypical, however, to me they are what amalgamate to create the urban version of the nuclear
family. The traditional stereotype is that mother s hold families together. According to page 461 in

GICs are not traded and nontransferable without the explicit written consent of the issuer. There are
two basic types of GICs issued. The first is participating GICs which involve investors to receive a
variable rate of return. Thus they are literally participating in the risks and rewards resulting from
the fluctuations in the interest rate. When interest rates are expected to rise in the future,
participating GICs become attractive to benefit from the expected rise in the interest rate. Different
from participating , nonparticipating GICs offer a fixed rate of return. This makes nonparticipating
GICs more attractive when market interest rates are high to lock in the high fixed rate of return for
the life of the investment contract. The change in the market for guaranteed investment contracts
since the financial crisis continues to be mixed. GICs have become as popular as other investments
like stocks and bonds. With the rising of interest rates and decreasing concerns about the credit
merit of the insurance companies issuing the contracts, traditional GICs have had a steady growth

discussed, or if it was even an option for him. My interest led me to discovering a disproportionate
disparity among those who receive live donor kidney transplants, referred to as LDKT, in the United
States.
It is first important to understand that live kidney transplants have many benefits when compared
to deceased donor transplants. Among these benefits include prolonged survival rates of up to 18
years. Also, living donor kidneys begin functioning almost immediately after surgery, and, lastly,
there is the added benefit of bypassing a waiting list, limiting time spent, if any, on dialysis (Mysel,
2016). Interestingly, the majority of recipients of LDKT transplants in the United States are white.
In juxtaposition, renal disease is actually more prominent in minorities such as African Americans
and Hispanics. End Stage Renal Disease has an incidence rate three times higher in African
Americans than

Pokemon-Go Research Papers
Living a virtual life can be great in the beginning until you abandon your true existence. In the
generation we live in now, virtual living is our morning coffee. When you walk outside
nowadays, every direction you may look, someone is on their phone. What could they be doing
that is so interesting? Reading a story? Maybe, but more than likely that is not the case.
According to smartinsights.com, 80 percent of people use their cellular device globally. That is a
large number, which in no doubt will increase. Why don t the numbers decrease? There are always
going to be something or someone that will preserve your cell phone usage, which caused virtual
living to settle here. People have access to games everywhere they go in this generation.... Show

I realized how much I was missing out on. In my opinion, video games, social media, or
augmented reality, in general, is not the route we should take. Pokemon Go does have its pros,
but it should not have to take a video game to enjoy life. I interviewed my father and close friend,
my age, about their feelings and experiences with and without technology. My father did not grow
up with technology. He exclaimed how he appreciates not having the internet because he is a
brighter crayon in the box. He was not consumed in the television but actually interacted with his
peers and family. When the internet came about, he did not find a use for it. Now in this
generation, he has the newest iPhone. He knows how to use it for the most part, but he only uses it
when he needs it. He is not caught up in the virtual world. My close friend Lauren thought
otherwise. She believes without the internet, she would not have passed her classes, she would not
be able to interact with her friends when they are not together, and that she would have no social

Analysis Of The Movie King Kong
King Kong was first released on April 7, 1933. This version was directed by Merian C. Cooper
and Ernest B Schoedsack. The lead female role, Ann Darrow, was played by Fay Wray, and the
lead male role, Carl Denham, by Robert Armstrong. At the time, this movie was classified into three
genres: adventure, fantasy, and horror. Most importantly, the composer of this film was Max Steiner.
72 years after the original King Kong was released, a new, three hour long version was released on
December 14, 2005. Although the story line remained the same, there were some notable
differences between the two. First of all, Ann Darrow was played by Naomi Watts, and Carl Denham
by Jack Black. Second, the way Peter Jackson directed this film turned it into an adventure movie
with more action and drama than the 1933 version. One of the most prominent differences that will
be discussed in this essay, is the difference in music selections due to the different composer, James
Newton Howard.
The 1933 and 2005 versions of King Kong are constructed in slightly different ways. The 1933
version focuses mainly on the procession of Ann to the sacrifice altar. There are multiple
panoramic shots of the large group of natives surrounding her and cheering on the sacrifice.
Throughout this scene, it almost appears as though the same or very similar clips of these natives
surrounding her are used in multiple places. The sacrifice itself is also emphasized in this version
and turned into a big deal. One

Reflection of Juduasm Essay
Judaism is a religious tradition with origins dating back nearly four thousand years, rooted in the
ancient region of Canaan, which is now known as the land between Israel and Palestine. Judaism
did not emerge until the 1st century C.E. Judaism traces its heritage to the covenant God made
with Abraham and his lineage that God would make them a sacred people and give them a holy
land. The primary characters of Israelite culture include the great patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob,
and the prophet Moses, who received God s law at Mt. Sinai. Judaismis a tradition grounded in the
religious, ethical, and social laws as they are articulated in the Torah. The Torah is known as the
first first five books of the Hebrew Bible. Jews refer to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Christianity and Judaism are different but they are not that much different from each other. You
you can say Christianity is Judaism s little brother because most of Christianity teachings derived
from Judaism. This fact forms a mystery, which is how these two relegions can be so close but yet
so far away from each other.
There are many different ways of practicing Judaism that are amongst us today, and many
different types of people that practice them. The traits and traditions that I find to be significant
and interesting in Judaism are Hanukkah, a Bar Mitzvah, and The Kashrut. There are many
more traits and traditions of Judaism that I favor, and there are many traits and traditions that I
might question if I thought about converting to Judaism; however, these are the traditions that I
believe to be some of the most widely known traditions throughout the world. My favorite part of
Judaism that I would have no problem being a part of would have to be a young man s Bar
Mitzvah. A Bar Mitzvah is a rite of passage for a 13 year old boy to become a man. Why is this
something to look forward to? Because for a young boys Bar Mitzvah the boy usually gets a
large amount of money. Now this money doesn t usually come in small amounts; however, it is
known to come in six to seven figures all together. This may make an older sister very jealous in a

What is your favorite activity out of school? Would you continue to do that activity, even if you

went to the Olympics in 1992 in Barcelona, Spain, and brought America the Gold Medal for
Basketball games, even though he had dyslexia and HIV s, which he was diagnosed in 1991. In

La Sagrada Mexico Riot
That February also marks the first violent action against the Catholic Church. On the 23rd, just
down from the U.S. Embassy, Mexico City government agents took control of La Sagrada Familia
Church, claiming that it had not complied with regulations. A riot ensued when government agents
tried to take survey of the church s inventory. When the rioting escalated, seven of the protestors
were killed. In response, the government issued orders to enforce the constitution at all cost and
Calles announced that the government would be inflexible. He reiterated that they would use every
capability the law provided in dealing with problems that arise from the populace. This assault on
the Church was considered the beginning of the Cristero Rebellion.... Show more content on

The law enforced the anticlerical codes that had been previously established over fifty years ago
and newly enacted by the 1917 Constitution. Lesser punishments included fines from 50 to 500
pesos and jailtime of fifteen days. With harsher castigations with steeper fines, removal from
office and even years of imprisonment. The law was debated for two weeks before it was finally
passed by Congress on July 2, 1926 and would begin being enforced on August 1st. When news
of the law s creation made it to Rome, that waited to see the intentions of Congress and Calles. The
Vatican and the bishops were hopeful they would be able to make some type of compromise with
the Mexican government. After the law was ratified Calles suffered from scrutiny from the
supporters of the Catholic faith claiming that he was persecuting Catholicism. He defended this
saying that all Mexican citizens were required to follow the laws and the Constitution. However,
some stipulations, such as the ban on priest celibacy and monastic life, directly related to the
Catholic as Protestants did not follow these religious

Entertainment Media Influence On American Culture Essay
He can go all the way! says, the announcer. That concludes the games folks! The new England

excitement. Yeah! I can t believe they actually won! I replied in shock. That was me as a 7 year
old watching the N.F.L. Super Bowl. This is a perfect example of how entertainment media have
shaped American culture. But there s more! World Cup (Soccer), Smackdown (Wrestling),
Movies, Video games, News, etc. Ok, let s dig a little deeper. Technology has been a working
progress for as long I ve been living but made tremendous improvements. Depending on the device
you are using, that can limit or expand your entertainment possibilities! Technology! It s
everywhere! You can t live without a phone. More importantly, a phone that can do everything a
computer and a phone can do. So, for entertainment media to broaden its platform, you must get
creative and put yourself in the user s perspective. To be honest, it works and everyone is captured

Not all people working for non governmental organizations are volunteers.
Many NGOs are associated with the use of international staff working in developing countries, but
there are many NGOs in both North and South who rely on local employees or volunteers.
Whether the NGOs are small or large, various NGOs need budgets to operate. The amount of
budget that they need would differ from NGOs to NGOs. Unlike small NGOs, large NGOs may
have annual budgets in the hundreds of millions or billions of dollars.. Major sources of NGO
funding are membership dues, the sale of goods and services, grants from international institutions
or national governments, and private donations. Several EU grants provide funds accessible to
NGOs.

installation and training with the new kiosk check in process. This sophisticated technological
check in process is user friendly and reduces the check in time significantly. The kiosk allows the

information, and sign off on five office documents. Patients will also be able to activate their patient

The EMR technician seemed to be uncertain and kept putting me on hold. Frankly she gave me
the impression that this was her first day on the job. At the end of the session I still had questions
on how some of the features worked such as when does the camera prompt to update a photo of a
new insurance card? At what point are the patients given the options to authenticate? The technician
was unable to answer any of these questions which I felt were part of the set up and installation
process. Could this have been a language barrier again? Or did I annoy her with all my questions?
Another communication challenge that I faced was with the staff and patients. I needed to convince
both staff and patients that the kiosks are user friendly thus, making the check in process much
faster than checking in with the receptionist. I could hear the tone of reluctance, apprehensiveness
and fear from both the staff and patients as we began using the kiosks. Providing and
communicating clear training and instructions on the use of the kiosks was essential to the success
of this new procedure.
Strategies
The strategy that I used to resolve the customer service issue was to request the manual which
contained the product specifications and the installation instructions to the kiosks. After reviewing
the specifications and installation instructions, I could plan exactly how many kiosks to purchase

My Experience At Mills, Our Community Is Created And...
Una destinatio, viae diversae is the Mills motto. Translated, it means one destination, many paths.
At Mills, our community is created and sustained by the many unique paths of our students. How
has your path led you to Mills? What will you bring to our community, and what do you hope to
gain from your time here?
Before my eyelids blazed eighteen candles as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around
my twin sister and I. Cheers and chants from all sides, as my cousin yells out, Make a wish! My
eyes shut and I repeated the wish I had for the last three years. Taking a deep breath in, I wish to
change whispered from the recesses of my mind. My teen years were difficult on myself
confidence. I cannot pinpoint the moment I stopped liking the person I was, and became obsessed
with becoming someone other than myself. I searched for communities throughout high school
hoping they would be my catalyst with no avail. As I entered college, I hoped Los Angeles would
be my place of transformation, but adjusting to my new college environment proved challenging
and as the semester wore on my wish became a faint memory.
Although I was only eight hours away from the Bay Area, the homesickness never left me.
Longing for my large intimate family find a community at my college was priority if I were to
survive emotionally. I attended meetings for different cultural clubs, the only places I felt accepted
due to the lack of cultural diversity on campus. The clubs were enjoyable

Measuring The Measuring Organization Development...
2.4Measuring Organisation Development Interventions 2.4.1Measuring Effectiveness Evaluating
OD interventions is a process to find out whether an intervention is carried out as expected and
leads to satisfied outcome, and measuring intervention and outcome variables is a core aspect in
this process (Cummings Worley, 2014). Although intervention variables are helpful to interpret
outcome measures, previous studies show that major measurements assume the interventions have
been implemented and only pay attention to measuring impact and outcome (Cummings Molloy,
1977). It is argued that there are two types of measures assessing the effectiveness of OD
interventions, one is attitudinal and perceptual measures, and the other is behaviour and
performance measures (Cummings Worley, 2014). As can be seen from Figure 1, attitudinal
measures can be divided into two subgroup: satisfaction attitudes and non satisfaction attitudes
(Neuman, Edwards and Raju, 1989; Porras Berg, 1978). However, the validity of measuring attitude
change is questioned by Golembiewski, Billingsley and Yeager (1976). They report that the
attitudes observed before and after interventions may not be comparable as transformational change
redefine some concepts and employees may regard these in a different way. Table 2 1 Attitudinal
and perceptual measures in assessing effectiveness MeasuresIndicators Satisfaction attitudesGeneral

  • 2. Lois Prunesworth s Argumentative Essay Lois Prunesworth hated technology with the firiest of passions. Everywhere she looked, young people were always on their phones and computers, paying more attention to how many friends they had on social media than how many friends they had in the real world. She found it absolutely deplorable. Wherever she went, she always made certain that anyone 40 years younger than her knew that she did not approve of whatever electronic device was on their person. While she was waiting in line at the supermarket, she made sure to tell the girl texting in front of her that, when she was a girl as young as she was, she had to walk 2 miles, backwards, uphill, through the snow in order to socialize with any of her friends. When she took her dog, Fifi,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That s all you kids care about, your darned WiFi! You don t ever see anyone out kicking cans or playing tag anymore, all everyone does is play Anger Birds and watch dumb videos. It s deplorable! It s ridiculous! I swear, there s no hope for this generation. The confrontation lasted a whole 5 minutes, in which Ms. Prunesworth unloaded practically all she had to say about technology. The old bag practically screamed at the poor young woman, her dentures gnashing together, causing a bit of foam to form at the corners of her jowls. The girl s phone was ringing during this time, but she was too stunned to notice. When she finally checked back, she noticed she had a missed call, and cried out in despair. You made me miss the call! I can t believe you! You re darned right I did! That ll teach you whippersnappers to pay more attention to the world around you. I swear... With that, Prunesworth stepped in front of the girl in line, grabbed her coffee, and shuffled out. The young woman stood their, baffled, tears forming at the corners of her ... • 3. The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr. Hyde Robert Louis Stevenson, a Scottish author, wrote The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It is a horror and a science fiction book. The story took place in London, England, during the Victorian era. Mr. Utterson knew something was wrong when his cousin Richard Enfield told him of Mr. Edward Hyde, an ugly, cruel man. Richard Enfield told him he witnessed a man named Mr. Hyde mercilessly tramping on a young girl, and to avoid getting in trouble with the authorities, he gave the girl s family a cheque of a hundred Pounds, which was signed by none other than Mr. Utterson s client and good friend Dr. Jekyll. Mr. Utterson was familiar with Mr. Hyde s name because Dr. Jekyll noted Mr. Hyde as the main beneficiary in his will. Although Mr. Utterson... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Maori Culture Essay Kia Ora, my name is Te Mahia Millanta and I am a extramural student studying marketing and economics. I chose this paper as an elective and was interested in developing my knowledge of Maori culture. I will now discuss the impact of Maori values and concepts as they relate to the study of a specific discipline, marketing. From the well known All black haka to professional golfer Michael Campbell s clothing label, Cambo, the culture of Maori and their brand are helping New Zealand position itself in an ever increasing global market. New Zealand government officials first warned Fiat (car manufacturer), whom launched and advertisement of woman imitating the Ka mate haka last year that it would be seen as insensitive to Maori and the New Zealand public. The irony of course is that this is certainly not the first time that an international company has trespassed into our culture and more likely it won t be the last. The elaborate form of the traditional challenge is not often seen these days. It is largely reserved for special occasions such as visits by senior dignitaries. However, the principles that underpin the traditional rituals are still retained in a modern form (Guide, 2014). Recently New Zealand has been awarded second place in the world in terms of authentic brands in terms of distinctive, unique and genuine cultures. Brand strategist Brian Richards adds, Maori culture can add value to New Zealand s identity in such a significant way . Nevertheless as outraged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Fotse Abstract Having fixed term Parliaments in the United Kingdom is something that has been debated across the political spectrum for some years and, with the enactment of the Fixed Term Parliaments Act 2011, is no longer something which is merely debated, but a political and constitutional reality. The Act came into force with little consultation, research, or advice to or by the Government; it was exceptionally hurried legislation. This means that there is little written on the wider constitutional effects of the Act, and it is exactly that which this essay will try to examine. To analyse the Act s significance I have looked at the position prior to the Act and what the Act changed, before moving on to examining and critically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a rebalancing of power within the British Constitution. When talking about this power Leyland said the Royal Prerogative to dissolve Parliament on the advice of the Prime Minister was regarded as a core feature of the constitution ,10 from this then, we can surmise that the loss of this power is constitutionally significant. • 7. The Victim Of Fate In Oedipus The King By Sophocles The belief in Greek Philosophy, is the belief that someone s fate is determined by their actions and decisions that have been made in their life. The Greeks believed that fate is accepted because it is difficult to avoid. According to Oedipus the King by Sophocles, Oedipus is in control of his own fate, though not until the point at which he seeks out to the oracles to ask about his past. He could have went to the prophecy, instead, he takes action on his own which entirely changes his fate. The prophecy was destined, for Oedipus, to marry his mother and killhis father. Oedipus may be a victim of fate, however he is not innocent and did have to live with his mistake in the outcome of his life. In addition, to his irony of fate, shows that he has a fate of pride. His fate of pride forced him to murder his own father. The evidence of Oedipus efforts can be found certainly towards him leaving his parents who raised him in order to save them and to avoid fulfilling the prophecy. He fails in this effort, offering some strong proof that he is a victim of fate. Oedipus s pride soon prevents him from seeing the truth. Oedipus is blinded by his pride because he cannot accept his fate due to the certainty that he tries to avoid his own fate. Had Oedipus not had so much pride, he would listened to Creon and Teiresias ideal belief of who had really killed King Laius, which was Oedipus. The evidence of Oedipus efforts can be found that he accuses his brother, Creon, of trying to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Epic Poetry By Homer And Catullus Essay From ancient Greek to Roman literature, styles and genres in writing changed drastically. The Greeks were adamant on showing their extensive knowledge of myth, often referencing the most obscure myths. The gods mentioned in their poems often had crucial roles necessary for developing the plot, or they were the reason the story began at all. The Romans however were very educated, and showed this in their works by referencing older Greek literature or authors instead of direct myths. Another drastic difference in the divergent genres, namely epics and lyrics, is the expression of love, which through Homer and Catullus, shows us how love can be expressed as erotic, familial, or as a love of place by the protagonists and secondary characters, despite whether it is the primary or secondary theme. In Greek literature a prominent author is Homer, whom we don t know if actually existed or if Homer is a pseudonym for a collective group of writers. Homer is popular for writing epic poetry, which follows the heroic journey of the protagonist through a lengthy narrative. In epics, the poet focuses on the main character s search for kleos, the only thing a proper hero requires. In the Iliad, while the search for kleos is a major theme, love is also portrayed in many different respects. The love shown between Hector and his wife Andromache is one very strong example of the theme of love. At this time, love was not something people strived to achieve. Marriages were often used to ... The chemical structure includes four carbon fused molecules with an additional oxygen molecule attached. The most known animal sterol is cholesterol. Cholesterol is fundamental to the structure of the cell membrane. It also functions as a fat soluble in the body. In order for amphotericin B to work, there must be sterols present. This is because it is susceptible to sterols. A bacterial membrane does not contain sterols, which means it can t be used as an agent against bacterial infection. • 10. Management Style At Arizona Central Credit Union Organizational Management Approach Analysis The management approach of any one organization is unique and varied based on the needs of the business or the type of organization. When developing this management approach, in my opinion, it is critical to adapt and to use many sources of knowledge to be successful. These sources of knowledge can be traced to historical theories that have been developed throughout recent history, and are critical to the understanding of how practical applications can be successfully used. It is also argued that modern students of management do not have the practical understanding or awareness of these historical theories because of the misguided curriculum and lack of interest (Cummings Bridgman, 2011). The purpose of this paper approaches some historical theories in comparison to the modern management style within a credit union to demonstrate the use of these theories as a management tool. Management Style at Arizona Central Credit Union The management style at Arizona Central Credit Union, one of my former employers, is complex and varies between the departments both by design and by regulation. The credit union and its management team draws from various historical and contemporary approaches and theories to help the employees and the organization attain set goals and standards while maximizing the potential of their employees and products. • 11. The Philosophy Of Science And Science Before this class began, I thought of myself as a person who tended to lean towards science as fact based and found it hard to believe in some philosophical and religious claims that were not backed up by experimentation and evidence. Five weeks later, my views haven t changed drastically, but have instead been developed and broadened. I now understand the importance of the philosophy of scienceand why philosophy and science should be interconnected. The need to question things that may appear to be factual is something I now consider more than ever crossed my mind before this course. At the beginning of the course, starting in Lecture One, we discussed the problem of knowledge and the nature of scientific knowledge. The problem of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examples like the theory of Plate Tectonics or the Alvarez Theory of mass extinction are cited as examples of theory acceptance and when it is appropriate. The overarching theme from Losee is that there are no rules that can objectively decide the acceptance or rejection of a new theory. This is a confusing aspect of science, but is reflected in the history of scientific discoveries and those theories we still hold to be true. Some theories are not necessarily confirmed, but are at the very least agreed upon from empirical observations. By Lecture Four we covered multiple conceptions of method. Method is central to the scientific enterprise. The founders of modern science were looking for an impersonal, objective basis for their knowledge claims. This was coming at a time when science was separating from religion based belief systems. Method is crucial to determining truth and developing scientific hypotheses. Without a method in place, the goal of objectivity within science is compromised. Method is discussed throughout the entirety of Losee s book. Losee generously discusses theory acceptance, rejection, falsification, and replacement. He aims to show the method behind these based on historical accounts in science, but as stated before, there is no set group of rules that govern this. Instead the development of hypotheses and theories that we take are integrated, comprehensive explanation of many facts. These hypotheses and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. White Collar Crime Control Theory This paper aims to provide the reader with understanding of white collar crime and more specifically on money laundering. The strain theory will be discussed in further detail to show how it explains money laundering. Control theory will also be discussed to show how it does not explain money laundering. The two theories will help the reader the understand why it is the crimes are committed. First, I will give an overview of what white collar crimeis. I will then explain money launderingspecifically. I will also briefly discuss the statute currently in place for money laundering and what is being done to prevent it from happening. Then I will connect money laundering to the movie American Hustle. This will allow the reader to connect the crime to a modern day example. Finally, I will end with my conclusion and shed light on the answered questions and challenges on the topic. While white collar crime can be defined in various ways, in the textbook, Understanding White Collar Crime, it is defined as crime committed by a person of respectability and high social status in the course of his occupation ... Although this is in place, money laundering is still happening. Money laundering is not a crime that takes place in one location, but rather all over the world. • 13. The Bats Reproductive Technique And The Evidence For An... The New Zealand Lesser Short tailed bat (Mystacina tuberculata) is an endangered bat, endemic to New Zealand. It diverges into three subspecies, of which two are endangered and one is at risk (Department of Conservation [DOC], 2012). It is one of three original native bat species in New Zealand with only two of those species still found today. The Lesser Short tails are microbats, with pre foraging adults weighing between 10 to 22 grams (Carter Riskin, 2006). An adult body length can extend up to 70mm and with an average wingspan between 280 300mm wide (Carter Riskin, 2006). They have a brown grey coat colour that lightens in the ventral areas and similar skin colour (Carter Riskin, 2006). Due to its endangered status, understanding the Lesser Short tailed bats reproductive cycle is essential in helping conserve the species and stabilize the population. This essay will explore the bats reproductive technique and the evidence for an annual cycle, which can be seen to make anatomical, behavioural and physiological changes to the bats (Racey Entwistle, 2000). The male anatomical and physiological changes have not had a sufficient in depth study, however their behavioural changes a can clearly be seen (Krutzsch, 2000). On the other hand female anatomical and physiological changes have been explored a little more and there is more information available on those changes. Changes include behavioural courtship, anatomical and physiological fluctuation (with emphasis on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Synthesis Tert-Butyl Chloride Sn2 Report In order to synthesis tert butyl chloride, HCl is used in a substitution reaction to displace an OH molecule that is connected to the tert butyl molecule. Substitution reactions for alkyl halides can go one of two ways; an Sn1 reaction or an Sn2 reaction. An Sn1 reaction is unimolecular (only depends on the substrate), and requires a very weak nucleophile, a polar protic solvent and favors tertiary alkyl halides as the electrophiles. An Sn2 reaction is the opposite and is bimolecular (depends on the substrate and nucleophile), requires a very strong nucleophile, a polar aprotic solvents and favors primary alkyl halides as the electrophile. There are a number of factors that can affect the efficiency of these reactions. An Sn2 reaction is affected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Posttructuralism And Structuralism Poststructuralism mainly criticizes the dependence of structuralism on tradition and opposes traditional structuralism to focus research on objectivity and rationality. It attempts to restore irrational tendencies, pursue from the logic, but produce non logical results. There is seldom a coherent theory in the field of poststructuralism, but each theory begins with a critique of Structuralism. Take the documentary as an example, in the view of the poststructuralist theorists, there is nothing else other than ideology, and any objective and true claim is doubtful in the documentary expression. For many people, such a poststructuralist approach is disappointing. If the documentary cannot get any form of objectivity or authenticity, even full of fiction like other feature film, then, how does documentary confirm its identity and value? For the moment, the response of the theorists to this issue is not sufficient, but I am in favor of Carl s point of view. Carl (1996) argues that the theory of poststructuralism and postmodernism is untenable as a philosophy. Also, as a basis for political analysis and political action, it is a failure. The research on poststructuralism is political, because many poststructuralists believe that the world which people living now is just a social construct, and there are many different ideology promoters who want to be hegemonic. This is obviously not acceptable. The documentary is a non fictional art technique. It restore and record the past or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Power System Operation And Control School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering MSc in Electrical Power Systems 2014 2015 Assigment.1 Power System Operation and Control Newton Raphson and Decoupled Newton Raphson Power Flow Solutions using MATLAB ID: 1501113 Summary The power flow analysis involves the calculations of power flows and voltages of a transmission network for specified terminal or bus condition. Such calculations are required for the analysis of steady state as well as dynamic performance of power systems [1]. The power flow is also called load flow. Some classification should be represented before carry out the analysis of power flow. Such as, the bus classifications or types like voltage controlled bus (PV), load bus (PQ) or slack bus (Swing). In addition to that, the representation of network elements should be considered and the magnitude calculated in per unit. The iterative techniques are used to solve the power flow equations such as Gauss Seidel, Newton Raphson and Decoupled Newton Raphson methods. Each method has its equations and principle to reach the solution. The difference between them appeared in which method is more accurate and fast to get the results. The system which assigned to be solved by Newton Raphson and Decoupled Newton Raphson methods includes two bus. Bus.1 is slack bus where voltage is given and bus.2 is a PQ bus where load power is given. The impedance of the transmission system between bus.1 and bus.2 is given. To calculate the power flow ... They are always being told what to do and where to go, and they never question it. They never stop and think, maybe, we don t have to do this. Unfortunately, they don t notice this until too late. Once they knew they were doomed, Guildenstern reminisces that at some point, there had to have been a time where they could have said no; where they could have stopped all of this from happening. It didn t matter anymore though. They were done. This play is saying that people need to take charge of their lives, and make their own decisions. Don t just let life pass you by. What they were really missing was their identities. Neither Rosencrantz nor Guildenstern had fully developed a sense of self. Neither really did anything that made them distinct from the other. Thomas University of Phoenix PSYCH 560/ Cognitive Psychology Dr. Kristi Collins Johns 15th August 2010 Language and Memory Paper Introduction Language is important to the way we communicate. Semantic memory is acquired over the years and is vital to language. Language becomes second nature when we already know what, when and how to say something. We form sentences, phrases, paragraphs by planning what we say and how we will say it. Most people believe that when we speak, it is without thought and is done unconsciously. However, in this paper I will seek to explain the relationship between semantic memory and language production. Explain the nature and function of semantic memory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For every action, there is a reason for it. We have to appreciate our cognitive processes and continuing to understand how they work and what goes into making them work is so rewarding. Analyze the basic functions of language Pinker (1994c) esteems language as the jewel in the crown of cognition. Language serves the purpose of communicating or revealing our cognitive processes. The beautiful thing about language is that it is one of most complex and valuable aspect of cognition (Robinson Riegler amp; Robinson Riegler, 2008). Babies are able to learn language and sometime understand the language before they can speak it. There are different types of languages: sign language, English, Spanish, Dutch, French, Braille. All of these are ways that people communicate with one another depending on their culture and mental/physical circumstances (deaf, blind). One characteristic of language is that everything we refer to is symbolized by a word. The way we put words in a sentence and combine them to make sense, would conclude that we have a basic understanding of what role words play in a sentence (noun, verb, pronoun). We would not know this if not through language. Through language we are able to speak, write, read and understand. As Robinson Riegler (2008) brings out, all the words a person knows comprise their mental lexicon and is a part of our semantic memory. When we talk about language, we also should ... I know people that live in California but they traveled to Texas to help. Everybody was asking for donations asking for food, water, and clothes to help everybody in need. Most African Americans in the southern states were under slavery, and had certain limits they couldn t break. The relationship between Huckleberry Finn and the former slave Jim, was very unique and complex at times. During their trip down the Mississippi, Huck s conscience was catching up to him. Knowing and embracing the consequences of helping a slave run away, Huck and Jim always stuck together throughout the novel. Throughout Huck s life, he was raised on racismfrom his father and the town around him. The Widow he had lived with, had a lot of slaves on their property. One of them, which was Jim. This was always hard on Huck, because he felt like the Widow did a lot for him in his life, and he betrayed her by keeping Jim safe. Also, Huck never had that one meaningful person in his life he could look up too. Jim was filling that position throughout the novel, because Huck had feelings that he thought he would never have for a slave. I believe this element of the story is connected to the idea of being American because during this time, slaves often tried to escape. The way Jim had escaped, mimics the stories of the famous Underground Railroad. So, Mark Twainthrows in some historical examples that mirrors this trip. While Huck Is feeling guiltier for his decision to run away with Jim, he has many chances to give him up. The first example comes when two men on a skiff with guns ask Huck ... In my analysis, I noticed a relationship between the refrain and the end of the stanzas which tend to repeat the same melodic material. Some administrative reports have inaccurate or incomplete information, which may adversely affect the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of data. For instance, inaccuracy of the numbers in an inventory report in an administrative report may affect the succeeding shipment of products. Another example is a list of cases in an administrative report in a hospital. Failure to list all kinds of cases may change the results when data are analyzed. • 40. Family Structures And The Family Structure Essay It is commonly accepted in contemporary society that family structures are defined as being either a nuclear family, or one that strays away from that. According to Dalton Conley in the fourth edition of You May Ask Yourself, the nuclear family is defined as a familial form consisting of a father, a mother, and their children (453). By definition and contemporary societal norms, my family would be categorized as abnormal or different. Having been raised in an apartment in the Bronx, New York with only my mother, I have a different idea of what normal familial structures tend to be. Despite being brought up in a home with a single mother, I have a vivid recollection of those in my hometown being raised in very similar circumstances. Similarly, it seems everyone around me had the same sort of familial story : raised by one parent, occasionally spoke to your parents siblings and hung out with your first cousins, have a crazy uncle. To people of different demographics than myself and my family, these characteristics may appear to be unfamiliar and atypical, however, to me they are what amalgamate to create the urban version of the nuclear family. The traditional stereotype is that mother s hold families together. According to page 461 in Conley s You May Ask Yourself, families changed drastically after World War II in that the mother became more active in the workforce and contributed to the economic well being of their family. The first is participating GICs which involve investors to receive a variable rate of return. When interest rates are expected to rise in the future, participating GICs become attractive to benefit from the expected rise in the interest rate. Different from participating , nonparticipating GICs offer a fixed rate of return. This makes nonparticipating GICs more attractive when market interest rates are high to lock in the high fixed rate of return for the life of the investment contract. The change in the market for guaranteed investment contracts since the financial crisis continues to be mixed. GICs have become as popular as other investments like stocks and bonds. With the rising of interest rates and decreasing concerns about the credit merit of the insurance companies issuing the contracts, traditional GICs have had a steady growth within the last decade. I found his case fascinating, as he not only had one kidney, but he was also suffering many other debilitating medical crisis , all brought on by his failing renal system. I distinctly remember wondering why transplantation was not being discussed, or if it was even an option for him. My interest led me to discovering a disproportionate disparity among those who receive live donor kidney transplants, referred to as LDKT, in the United States. It is first important to understand that live kidney transplants have many benefits when compared to deceased donor transplants. Among these benefits include prolonged survival rates of up to 18 years. Also, living donor kidneys begin functioning almost immediately after surgery, and, lastly, there is the added benefit of bypassing a waiting list, limiting time spent, if any, on dialysis (Mysel, 2016). • 44. Analysis Of The Movie King Kong King Kong was first released on April 7, 1933. This version was directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B Schoedsack. The lead female role, Ann Darrow, was played by Fay Wray, and the lead male role, Carl Denham, by Robert Armstrong. At the time, this movie was classified into three genres: adventure, fantasy, and horror. Most importantly, the composer of this film was Max Steiner. 72 years after the original King Kong was released, a new, three hour long version was released on December 14, 2005. Although the story line remained the same, there were some notable differences between the two. First of all, Ann Darrow was played by Naomi Watts, and Carl Denham by Jack Black. Second, the way Peter Jackson directed this film turned it into an adventure movie with more action and drama than the 1933 version. One of the most prominent differences that will be discussed in this essay, is the difference in music selections due to the different composer, James Newton Howard. The 1933 and 2005 versions of King Kong are constructed in slightly different ways. The 1933 version focuses mainly on the procession of Ann to the sacrifice altar. There are multiple panoramic shots of the large group of natives surrounding her and cheering on the sacrifice. Throughout this scene, it almost appears as though the same or very similar clips of these natives surrounding her are used in multiple places. The sacrifice itself is also emphasized in this version and turned into a big deal. One ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Measuring The Measuring Organization Development... 2.4Measuring Organisation Development Interventions 2.4.1Measuring Effectiveness Evaluating OD interventions is a process to find out whether an intervention is carried out as expected and leads to satisfied outcome, and measuring intervention and outcome variables is a core aspect in this process (Cummings Worley, 2014). Although intervention variables are helpful to interpret outcome measures, previous studies show that major measurements assume the interventions have been implemented and only pay attention to measuring impact and outcome (Cummings Molloy, 1977). It is argued that there are two types of measures assessing the effectiveness of OD interventions, one is attitudinal and perceptual measures, and the other is behaviour and performance measures (Cummings Worley, 2014). As can be seen from Figure 1, attitudinal measures can be divided into two subgroup: satisfaction attitudes and non satisfaction attitudes (Neuman, Edwards and Raju, 1989; Porras Berg, 1978). However, the validity of measuring attitude change is questioned by Golembiewski, Billingsley and Yeager (1976). They report that the attitudes observed before and after interventions may not be comparable as transformational change redefine some concepts and employees may regard these in a different way.
