Whiplash, A 2014 American Drama Film
Whiplash, a 2014 American drama film, captures the excellent performance of the characters as
they depict the ferocious student teacher relationship in the quest better their craft. Directed by
Damien Chazelle and starring Miles Teller (Andrew) and J.K. Simmons (Fletcher), the film
portrays how far a teacher would go to push his students to greatness. Simmons seizes the role of
the instructor of the jazzband with enthusiasm and brutality alike. J.K. Simmons offers an
unforgettable and award winning performance as he teaches his students in the style of jazz. For
Fletcher, perfection and toughness are indivisible, and the students do not have any option other
than excelling in the band. The performance by the musicconductor with his focus... Show more

Fletcher s physical and emotional abuse behavior seems to strengthen him. Although the audience
might expect students to succumb to pressure in the hands of seemingly tyrannical instructor, they
thrive and exhibit his quest to learn despite the obvious challenges. Arguably, Andrew typifies what
artists can achieve if they believe in their mentors despite humiliation and misery in the music
industry. Andrew shows the audience perseverance, especially when he plays the drums to a point
of bleeding (Chazelle). The fear of losing the tempo and beat is well reflected in student s keenness
to practice according to the teacher s instructions. In Andrew s character, Damien Chazelle infuses
the highest level of ambition. Fletcher complements this goal to the degree of obsession and
perfection. Although Andrew experiences the extreme psychological and physical trauma from the
jazz mentor, he is willing to sacrifice everything to achieve success. The concept of achievement
and failure is evident in the duo s stellar performance.
Whiplash captures the concept of success and failure in which the former prevails. In the hands of
strict and perfectionist instructor, Andrew has to sacrifice everything, including his girlfriend and
his relationship with his father to become a great jazz drummer. Skillfully, Chazelle maneuvers
Andrew s pursuit of greatness towards the conventional happy conclusion. Such maneuvering raises

Informative Speech On Epiphany
There are many well known Christmas legends associated with the celebrations. Herein, we present
to you a few famous ones.
Birth of Jesus
Christians around the world celebrate Jesus birth on December 25th Christmas. While the Roman
Catholics and Protestants observe Christmas on December 25th, many others celebrate it on
December 24th as well. The members of the Eastern Orthodox Church delay to January 6th, when
they observe Epiphany, a commemoration of the baptism of Jesus. Traditionally, Epiphany is
associated with the Three Wise Men of the East paying a visit to Jesus in Bethlehem, Israel, where
they adored the infant Jesus and gave presents to him like gold, frankincense and myrrh. The
official Christmas season Christmastide or Twelve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christians in China use paper lanterns to illuminate the Christmas trees. Some parts of India uses
oil burning lamps while in Sweden, many believers participate in Lucia, a thanksgiving to the
Queen of Light for bringing hope in the darkest time of the year.
Christians in today s society, light candles during Christmas, to symbolize the birth of Christ; and
his renewing light force that leads his followers on the path of righteousness, chosen by them. This
tradition was borrowed from the Germans tradition of lighting candles in the windows and
Christmas tree. The German tradition of lighting and placing candles in windows and trees is
practiced to illuminate the way for the Holy Family on their way to Bethlehem. In today s date, this
ensures a year of light, warmth and good bonding in the whole family.
Even non religious holidays use candles for celebration. For example, the non religious holiday of
Kwanzaa uses Kinara, a candleholder. Kinara was introduced after the Watts riots in 1960s. The
Jewish holiday of Hanukkah uses candles to celebrate the two thousand year old triumph of Judas
Maccabees over the Syrian tyrant

A New Economic Vision For America s Infrastructure
The Way Forward
A New Economic Vision for

Summary
Disruptive market, demographic, fiscal, and environmental dynamics are fundamentally reshaping
America s economic landscape. In this new reality, the United States should think of infrastructure
not in the general but in the specific, understanding the ways in which different infrastructure
sectors such as transportation, energy, and water are governed, financed, and delivered. At the same
time, metropolitan areas need to outline their priorities given their distinct economies, competitive
advantages, and infrastructure needs. As public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States faces an unprecedented number of economic, demographic, fiscal, and
environmental challenges that compel both the government and the private sector to rethink the
way they do business. While these new forces are incredibly diverse including everything from the
shale gas revolution to renewed consumer preferences for urban living they share one underlying
need: modern, efficient, and reliable infrastructure. Tangible assets made of concrete, steel, and
fiber optic cable are essential building blocks of the American economy. Infrastructure enables
global trade, powers businesses, connects workers to their jobs, creates new opportunities for
struggling communities, and protects America from an unpredictable natural environment. From
private investments in telecommunication systems, broadband networks, freight railroads, energy
projects, and pipelines, to public investments in transportation, water, public buildings, and parks,
America s infrastructure is the backbone of a healthy national economy. Infrastructure also supports
American workers, providing millions of jobs each year to build and maintain the structures and
facilities that power our economy. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that
approximately 14 million Americans are employed in fields directly related to infrastructure. From
locomotive engineers, electrical power line installers and truck drivers to airline

Distracted Driving Adverts
Making the Public Aware In 2013, there were about 3,200 deaths due to distracted driving. But,
people decided to make the public aware of these statistics by creating advertisements. So, when
you first look at this specific ad, the main thing you see is the dark red blood spewing through the
phone, onto this poor woman s face. The ad at first just looks gory, and shocking, but once you
read the words the whole picture comes together. This ad has these impressions because they really
stood out, with all the blood, and even having the words written in that person s blood. This ad is
appealing to people s ethos, and making them feel emotional about the issue of distracted driving.

The Cause And Effects Of The Little Ice Age
Little Ice Age For five centuries, Europe basked in warm, settled weather, with only the
occasional bitter winters, cool summers and memorable storms. Summer after summer passed
with long, dreamy days, golden sunlight and bountiful harvests. Compared with what was to
follow, these centuries were a climatic golden age. (Homewood)The cold weather of these
centuries lead to the growth of Glaciers. Glaciers form when snow stays in the same area year
round, and them becomes ice. Each year the new layer add to the old ones and it forms a big pile
of ice. Eventually the air pockets get smaller and the ice gets tighter compacted. For most Glaciers
take about 100 years to go through the process.(National Snow) Due to the Cold climateand
starvation, the Little Ice agekilled off a huge amount of the Northern Hemisphere between the 13th
and 19th centuries. There is no telling what happened to cause the Little Ice Age. Many scientists
have tried to figure this mystery out. Not all of them agree, but some think what caused the
disaster is that the sun started giving off less heat and that there was an increase in volcanic
erupting. Others say that the decrease in greenhouse gas lead to larger amounts of sea ice. Also,
he slow greenhouse gas increase was the main driver of the sea ice changes.(SedlГЎДЌek, Jan and
Lawrence)No one knows which one of these inferences are correct, but with technology getting
more sophisticated, future scientist might be able to solve the mystery of the

him to break up with you. People who really care about each other sometimes break up because
they just figure it s the best thing to do at the time. If you both talked and agreed that you cared

According to Willoughby (2014), the community media and publishing media are two of the
most important types of the social media nowadays. The community media focusses upon the
interaction between users. The community media is such as Facebook. By contrast, publish
media, such as Youtube and Instagram, emphasizes the sharing of different media format, like
video and picture. The social features come second to the content sharing. As the marketing
campaign of share a Coke is in interest, it is essential for the brand of Coca Cola to choose the
right categories of social media. From the argument by Evans (2012). Indeed, as the campaign of
share a Coke aims to creates conversation and attention among the customers, the social media has
a direct bearing on the efficiency of the marketing campaign. As Grimes (2013) wrote, share a
Coke is originally designed to attract the demographics of 18 25 years old customers to purchase

is executed on the various platforms.
As Willoughby (2014) presented, four criteria could be used to analyse a marketing campaign: sales
growth, increasing proximity to the customers, and cost reduction. This literature review would
primarily examine the criteria of sales growth and increase in the proximity to customers. Firstly,
sales growth means that the monthly or

Persuasive Essay On Zoos
Introductory paragraph:
Introductory paragraph: Did you know that zoos kill 5000 healthy animals a year in Europe its self.
Society today has made it their utmost priority to entertain the crowd that even torturing animals,
snatching them away from their families, and forgetting about their feelings means nothing. Zoos
do not give the warm and comforting environment that animals once used to have. These animals
feel depressed, miserable, and tortured, but are forced to pretend to smile and play in front of the
crowd. Zoos should definitely not be perceived as a place for entertainment for the reason that they
deprive animals of natural habitat, harm animals mentally, and damage them physically. Zoos
should be forbidden as they bring a lot of life threatening harms to animals. ... Show more content

The same study also found out that Tigers and lions have around 18,000 times less space in zoos
than they would in the wild and Polar bears have well over one million times less space.
Elaboration:
These animals are not experiencing the feeling of living in an open natural place, although zoos
make every effort to expand, it is still not enough to compare with the open vast wild where
animals once used to live. For example In the wild elephants walk about 30 miles a day in herds,
in zoos they don t get enough space for their 30 mile walks and only get a couple of other elephants
to be with. This is unnatural and unfair.
Evidence:
Zoo programs such as (AZA) and (SSP) help conserve endangered species; they capture the animals
, breed them, and then let them

Compare And Contrast The Han And Roman Empires
Each empire has its own unique strengths and differences that aid in their emergence, growth, and
decline. While there are many differences between empires, there are fundamental similarities that
are common throughout every society. The Han, Mauryan, and Roman Empires all have different
strengths and differences, but are fundamentally the empires are similar in their primary doctrines.
Following the fall of the Qin Dynasty in 206 B.C.E., the Han Dynastywas founded by Liu Bang.
Bang veered away from a policy of centralized power, and moved towards a system of power
concentrating on the imperial court. The Han Dynasty adopted ideals from both Confucianism and
Legalism. Additionally, the Han fostered the Silk Road, which allowed for long distance trade and
better communication among nations. The immense expansion of both foreign and domestic trade
enabled the Han to prosper greatly. Furthermore, the addition of new technologies such as iron
casting, textile manufacturing, and watermills allowed the Han economy to further advance itself.
The leading factor of the decline of the Han Dynasty was its inability to restrict the power of
wealthy clans who constructed large estates on vast areas of land and made tenants out of free
farmers. This separation of classes caused the dynasty to destruct itself due to the fundamental
weakness brought on by a lack of unity within the nation. In 324 B.C.E., Chandragupta Maurya
created the Mauryan Empire. Like the Han, the

The Character of Ophelia Essay
The Character of Ophelia
In Shakespeare s tragedies, the characters all have flaws that eventually lead to their undoing. In
the play Hamlet, the character of Ophelia is ultimately killed by her flaw.
It is apparent that Ophelia is an obedient person but, upon closer inspection, the audience can see
that she is not merely obedient. Ophelia s thoughts and actions go beyond obedience to show that
she is a weak and entirely dependent character. Nothing that she says or does is a representation of
herself but mostly that of her father. Ophelia s cruel actions towards Hamlet, which go against her
feelings for him, demonstrate her obedience to her father. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia tells
her father that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ophelia s obedience and weakness as a character can be traced to her complete dependence on other
people. Her dependence on others is evident in the very beginning:
I do not know, my lord, what I should think. POL: Marry, I will teach you. Think yourself a
baby... (act 1, scene 3). This shows how Ophelia depends on her father to determine what she
should think and feel. Ophelia s complete dependence, or lack of independence, is what leads to
her demise. Still, Ophelia s dependence on others was not entirely her fault. It could have been
caused by her father and brother s protection over her. Polonius and Laertes were always there
for Ophelia, whether she needed it or not, causing her to develop a major character flaw. Her
flaw was her complete dependence on others, which can also be shown through her obedience
and overall weakness as a character. Ophelia s dependence on others is, sadly, what lead to her
death. She could not cope with the events in her life because she was so adapted to being told
how to think and act that she went mad. When she was forced to take care of herself, she could not
handle it and ended up committing suicide to keep from facing her problems

Reflective Essay On Civil Rights
During our time in class, we discussed several themes pertaining to the rights and freedoms of the
LGBTQ community, and spoke at length about some of the landmark cases that helped to give
the community the liberties that they enjoy today. In order to better understand the struggle that
the community had to endure in order to achieve these rights, we will review several different
cases and tie them to things we learned in class, analyzing the roles that they played in achieving
progress in various fields that were once dangers for members of this group. By understanding
some of the landmark legal actions that were made in the quest for equal rights, perhaps then we
can more fully understand the extent of the obstacles that they have overcome. And not all of these
cases go in their favor, either, showing that even at the highest echelons of the American legal
system, there have been and still continue to be significant prejudices which must be faced day in
and day out. The most important step forward in the timeline of LGBTQ rights was the acceptance
that homosexual acts were, in fact, not crimes, and that homosexuals could live in the open
without fear of repercussion from the law. In class, we discussed the case of Bowers v. Hardwick,
which upheld the constitutionality of sodomy laws and effectively criminalized homosexual
relations until the 2003 case of Lawrence v. Texas, which reversed the decision. Just two years after

Bruce Tuckman Is The Theorist Who Designed The †Forming
Bruce Tuckman is the theorist who designed the Forming Storming Norming Performing theory in
1965. He added a fifth stage, adjourning, in the 1970s. This theory is based and focused on team
development and behaviour, and the stages and changes the team makes as they mature and grow.
It emphases that relationships will establish, and the leader changes their leadership style as the
team progresses. This development of team behaviour and managementstyle can be seen plainly in
the Tannenbaum and Schmidt Continuum, how the authority and freedom extended by the leader
to the team grows while the control of the leader decreases.
There is a specific order within his theory, staring from beginning to end. The order would be
forming, storming, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This basically means that team members are wanting and looking for a new position. They do this
as they attempt to establish themselves within the team, letting them be known and try and make
relationships between themselves and the other members, or the leader. Little groups within the
team will begin to form, and therefore causing a power struggle to take place. In this stage the
leader will try and make sure that the team knows that they need to be focused on their goals, to
avoid becoming distracted by relationships and other emotional issues they may have.
Compromises and changes may be required to enable progress, so everything is fair and safe within
the team.
The third stage is norming, which means that agreement and accord largely forms among the team
and its members. The disagreements that happen in the first two stages have decreased, and roles
within the team have been firmly established. Also, the aims and objectives set by the leader are
done without disagreement. Big decisions are made by group agreement. Smaller decisions may be
given to individuals or small teams within group. Commitment and harmony within the team is
strong, meaning they are working well together. The team may engage in fun and social activities,
and therefore forming better relationships between people. This would only improve the way they

The Importance Of A Sonnets
Wednesday, 4th February 2015
Dear Young Poet,
I am writing this letter to you to as I have heard that you have decided to write a sonnet using all of
the techniques that are required to create a successful and meaningful sonnet. I am also writing this
letter to you to explain the significance of a sonnet. To explain this to you, I will be using the
example of an Shakespearean sonnet, which is the most simple and flexible form of all the
sonnets, to tell you why sonnets are important and why they need to be written. The
Shakespearean sonnet that I will be talking about is Sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer s
day? , by William Shakespeare. This sonnet is one of his most famous sonnets and is very
straightforward in the language and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each quatrain is used to develop a sequence of metaphors or ideas. The couplets are used to
summarise the sonnet or is a new take on the foregoing ideas and images. Most of Shakespearean
sonnets focus on the theme of love, beauty and worthiness. Sonnet 18 s theme focused on the
stability of love and its power to immortalize the subject about whom the poet was writing. The
rhyming couplets in this poem helps redefine the whole poem and also sums it up. It states that the
poet believes that as long as there is breath in mankind, his poetry too will live on and that the
person that is described in the poem will remain immortal. In Sonnet 18, each line is end stopped
and self contained; there is punctuation at the end of each line, which creates a pause. All of the
lines between one to nine are comparing a man to the summer s day as the first line, Shall I
compare thee to a summer s day? , helps define the comparisons that are written later on in the
poem (the main axis of comparison). From the ninth line of the poem, the volta takes place and
Shakespeare switches from describing a man with the summer day to describing the immortality of
his beloved. He has metamorphosed into the standard of how true beauty should be defined in the
sestet. Shakespearean sonnets usually have a lot of alliteration and assonance but Sonnet 18 isn t
heavy with alliteration and assonances and the language is

(2012) This leads me to question if fashion apparel is competing with industry s sportswear
markets by compromising the performance enhancing qualities for garments that are simply just
aesthetically pleasing. (Morganosky, 1984) elaborates on this stating that consumers are willing
to pay higher prices for apparel with a high aesthetic value regardless of the low functional value.
Ko et al. (2012) agrees consumers value fashion and quality however argues they are not willing
to pay a high price for something new and innovative. (Dickson Pollack, 2000) add to this
statement in relation to sports garments with female consumers regarding aesthetic aspects such as
style and brand characteristics to be more essential than the functional aspects such as comfort and
other physical performance enhancing features. Similarly (Eckma et al., 1990) reports on the
evaluation of purchase behaviour in women s apparel. Style was chosen as more important in
determining rejection or adoption of the garments. A visual criterion seems to have the greatest
impact on selection of apparel such as fashion ability or popularity, aesthetic appeal, and self
expression (Eckma et al., 1990). Although it seems there is a divide in opinion when it comes to
retail pricing the majority of research studies seems to suggest there is a major emphasis on the
aesthetic appearance.

The macroscopic, microscopic and radiographic appearance of bone must be recorded in
reference to trauma and disease, this may then be compared to ante mortem records. When
considering the pathology aspect of the investigation the type of disease must be contemplated
(lytic, proliferative, deformative, trauma) and the ratio of bone being lost to bone being formed.
The type of bone being formed is also important and how the bone loss and or formation has
transformed the size and shape of the bone. When surveying the remains, it must be acknowledged
which parts of the body are affected and the position of the ailment within each bone. The location
in which the symptoms are manifested may be an indicator as to which condition the deceased was

3. Diseases of Bone
Bone diseases affect the remodelling of bones. In healthy bone, bone is laid down (ossified) and
resorbed as needed. In diseased bone, the natural balance of resorption and ossification is affected
leading to there being a net loss or gain of bone. Bone diseases are generally either proliferative or
erosive although there are some, which are a combination of the two (University of Cambridge,

Coming Out By Heiner Carow
Within German cinema, one can identify a particular type of films taking place in, and
thematizing issues of, the former East German state. Given the undemocratic nature of the GDR,
these films are particularly suited to discuss the way that people react to a status quo: whether
by accepting it and conforming to it, or by rejecting and subverting it in various ways. These
different options appear in the two films analysed in this essay. Coming Out (1989) by Heiner
Carow was filmed in the GDR, and charts a gay man s process of acceptance of himself. The Lives
of Others(2006) by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck looks back at the GDR s past, and more
specifically at the actions of the Stasi. Its plot, set in 1984, follows a Stasi agent s conversion to
political subversion and to being a good man . First, this essay will examine the representation of
acceptance of the status quo in these films, before turning to the portrayal of subversion. Lastly, it
will highlight some of the negative aspects of the subversion depicted such aspects being
introduced either in a conscious and critical way, or not.
First, acceptance of the status quo occurs in its internalization by the characters. At this stage, they
do not question the rules of the society in which they live. Thus, in Coming Out, Philipp tries to fit
into the dominant heterosexual model by settling into domestic life with his fiancГ©e, because he
has internalized homophobia, having lived in a heterosexist society all

Ab Isotype Switching Case Study
Before encountering an antigen, a naГЇve B cell expresses both IgM and IgD on its surface. A
single transcript of VDJ CОјCОґ is alternatively spliced to yield either the Ој or the Оґ heavy
chains.
There is no DNA switch region before the CОґ gene. Switch regions are found in DNA upstream of
each constant region gene (except in the Оґ chain). Ab isotype switching occurs by recombination
between switch regions (S), with deletion of the intervening DNA, and must occur before
functional transcripts of these genes are made. Isotype switching requires the enzyme AID, which
is expressed in B lymphocytes in response to signals from T cells
These experiments tell us that the CD40L on the surface of activated T cells must bind to the CD40
on the macrophage surface to activate the macrophages against Pneumocystis jirovecii organisms.

Causes Of The Haitian Revolution
Whenever resistance is practiced, the collaboration of different identities is necessary in order to
successfully take action against an opposition. These diverse identities can be racially different,
sexually different, or even socially different, but still all have one common goal of practicing
resistance. Freed slaves of mixed ancestry in Haitiplayed more important and powerful roles in
plantation societies than blacks, such as catching slaves and gaining control over blacks. Although
the mixed Haitians had different social identities from African slaves, these groups still collaborated
in the Haitian revolution. Mixed Haitians, called Gens De Couleur or Mulattoes, had more power
than blacks, which created a racial hierarchy that acted as the cornerstone for the Haitian slave
rebellion. The different groups of non whites recognized the inequality, though on different scales
for each class, and revolted against the French for enforcing these inequalities. With the
collaboration of Affranchis (freed slaves) and African slaves, the Haitian Revolution transpired,
leading to the rebellion against French colonial rule, and thus an anti slaverynation led by non
whites. As described by Michael A. Gomez in Reversing Sail , the conditions of slavery in Haiti
were degrading. In Saint Domingue, the increase in demand for sugarcane and indigo production
increased a need for African slaves. So many slaves were needed, that between 1680 and 1776,
700,000 Africans were brought to

Lan Virtual Networks
There are two main types of virtual networks. These networks include virtual private networks
and virtual local area networks. Their acronyms are VPN for virtual private network and VLAN
for virtual local area network. Both of these virtual networks have specific uses and functions.
VPNs and VLANs differ in several ways because of the way they are used. To begin with, a virtual
private networkis a tunnel between two systems, a remote network or a device and a private
network elsewhere. This tunnel is encrypted and uses the Internet. A virtual local area network is
simply a LAN that is virtual. It is mainly used to mitigate broadcast traffic since it splits up the
broadcast domain into pieces. It is split using switches and connected to other

The Bean Trees Mother Figures Essay
The author Barbara Kingsolver once said, Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than
natural laws. This means that mothers can go through great lengths and even break laws for their
children. In the book The Bean Trees , Kingsolver portrays that quote by writing about Taylor s
experiences with an abandoned child named Turtle. Kingsolver included several characters in the
book that act as mother figures. Barbara Kingsolverseems to be saying that a mother does not have
to come biologically through the characters of Taylor, Lou Ann, and Mattie. Lou Ann is a character
that was introduced in the second chapter. Lou Ann is single and has a son whom she loves. Lou

Starting right now, you ve only got one Ma in the whole world, (Kingsolver 302). Taylor made a
comeback to Turtle calling Esperanza by Ma by telling Turtle that she only has one ma in the

Turtle. Even though she had a child, Taylor was still a child inside that tried to avoid pregnancy.
Mattie is the older character in this book that was owned Jesus is Lord Tires and was a character
that acted as a mother to multiple characters. She looked at me the way Mama would have,
(Kingsolver 252). This quote was found near the end of the book that signified Mattie looking at
Taylor and Taylor observing that look and thinking that it is similar to her real mother s. Mattie
gave some money to Taylor for the trip and Taylor refused to take it, so Mattie said that it was
for everyone in the car and gave her the look that reminded Taylor of her biological mother. I ve

(Kingsolver 252). Mattie seemed worried about Turtle and offered her something to eat. She
acted as a mother figure to Turtle because she fed her and gave her more food when Turtle hinted
for it. Mattie was the one that fit as a mother figure to a lot of characters in the book. She was the
person that led a sanctuary and was the one who took care of the many. The characters Taylor, Lou

Each department division of labor must consist of teams that cooperate with each other. The
department divisions we will talk about in detail are: training, construction and store design,
research and development and marketing.
The construction and store design teams must work closely together because when building a new
Tim Horton s restaurant the store appearance is just as important as the location. Construction team
responsibilities begin with choosing a place where building is most convenient for customers to
making blueprints in order to see what the Tim Horton location will look like from the inside and
outside. Once this procedure is complete, designer team starts developing a plan of what the store
will look like on the inside. Their task includes color schemes, flooring, accessories and many
others. Once the new location is complete, the owner of that location must go through training in
the National Training Center. This training takes about seven weeks and teaches the requirements
and techniques addressing the question of how to run Tim Horton s successfully. The training
program exists so that owners of each location can improve their operational excellence in food
handling and hygiene procedures, control over financials and employee relations.

Full Circle Farm Scholarship Essay
When you first meet me, you will see a determined young woman who wants to make a change
in the world, be it small or big. Volunteering at Full Circle Farm is one of the many ways for me
to change the world on a small scale, starting with my community. I have been going there for
four years and every time I do, I learn something new. The wonderful people there welcome me
with open arms, and, young or old, we all have the same goal: doing good for others. We take up
a variety of tasks and responsibilities, from harvesting cauliflower to teaching children to plant
radish seeds. All jobs are related in one way or another. Those who seed tomato plants put them
in pots for me to transfer to the ground. When they have grown for a while, workers prune them
and take the foliage over to the people making compost. Harvesters place ripe tomatoes in baskets
to sell or for anyone to take home. Finally, when the plants die, they are pulled out and taken back
to the compost pile. We work at this self sustaining farm and provide our community with fresh,

Black Hole Of Technology Summary
The black hole of endless, unimportant streams of technology enabled information is devouring
everyone living in the 21st century. Words once said by Leena Khan highlighting the downfalls of
technology. Leena Khan in the writing, Black Hole of Technology argues much better points than
Stefan Etienne in the writing, Teens and TechnologyShare a Future. Consisting of strong points,
having highly effective structure and claims, and it has good structure are all reasons The Black
Hole of Technology is superior to Teens and Technology.
The passage, Black Hole of Technology has many points that stand out. The author had
reasonable opinions which were shown from a real experience the author explained. The text has
strong reasons like the fact that technology isolates us from the rest of the world, keeping us
indoors. When Leena s friends were all glued to their phones, she said, I, on the other hand,
glanced out the window separating us from the beautiful weather outside. This proves that
technology is not always the best form of entertainment. When we are on our device, it is kind of
like we form a barrier to the real world, we get lost in the technology world for a while. ... Show

A Summary Of Blue Collar Brilliance By Mike Rose
A Summary of Blue Collar Brilliance by Mike Rose.
In his essay, Blue Collar Brilliance, Mike Rose reports that blue collar workers have a powerful
capacity to develop their jobs in order to get significant results, and it is not related to what level of
education those workers have. RoseВґs statements show narrative examples of how collar workers
are facing in their daily routine, how smart they are, and how those people give reasons to change
the thought of our society.
Rose begins with narrative examples of blue collar workers when he was growing up around of
their family. One of them is when his mother worked at a restaurant in Los Angeles (272). The
author declares that his motherВґs restaurant was a place where many blue collar workers had to
use their cognitive skills and some special movements with their body because they had to

Nocturia is when an individual has to frequently urinate in the middle of the night (Hall, Perry,
Potter, Stockert, 2017, p. 995). The client has reported waking up between two to three times in the
night to use the restroom. These frequent trips to the bathroom disrupts the clients sleep cycle and
makes it difficult to fall back asleep at night. According the patient s MAR, he has Benign prostatic
hyperplasia (BPH), an overactive bladder and chronic kidney disease. He is being treated with the
medications finasteride, tamsulosin and oxybutynin. Finasteride and tamsulosin are used to treat
BPH. The medication tamsulosin is also indicated for nocturia and acts by decreasing the
contraction of smooth muscle in the prostatic capsule (Deglin, Sanoski, Vallerand, p.1164). The
patient takes oxybutynin in the morning and night to treat his overactive bladder. Oxybutynin can
also help treat nocturia and works by inhibiting the action of acetylcholine at the postganglionic
receptors (Deglin, Sanoski, Vallerand, 2017, p.944). One of the interventions to help improve the
clients sleeping pattern is to speak to his physician about possibly increasing the dose of these
medications or changing medications to something that is more effective. The goal is to decrease

Oft of one wide expanse had I been told
That deep browed Homer ruled as his demesne;
Yet did I never breathe its pure serene
Till I heard Chapman speak out loud and bold:

As soon as he beheld the South Sea stretching in endless prospect below him, he fell on his knees,
and lifting up his hands to Heaven, returned thanks to God, who had conducted him to a discovery
so beneficial to his country, and so honourable to himself. His followers, observing his transports of
joy, rushed forward to join in his wonder, exultation, and gratitude (Vol. III).
John Keats simply remembered the image, rather than the actual historical facts. Charles Clarke
noticed the error immediately, but Keats chose to leave it in, presumably because historical
accuracy would have necessitated an unwanted extra syllable in the line.
In retrospect, Homer s pure serene has prepared the reader for the Pacific, and so the analogy now
expressed in the simile that identifies the wide expanse of Homer s demesne with the vast Pacific,
which stuns its discoverers into silence, is felt to be the more just.
Keats altered wondr ing eyes (in the original manuscript) to eagle eyes , and Yet could I never
judge what Men could mean (which was the seventh line even in the first publication in The
Examiner) to Yet did I never breathe its pure serene .

Cause And Effect Of Hydrocodone
Hydrocodone a drug used to change how your brain and your nervous system reacts to pain. When
taken the medication correctly it should relieve mood, reduction of pain. Hydrocodone was
introduced in the 1920 s from the country of Germany. Carl Mannich and Helenen Lowenheim
were the first to report it being in use in 1923( Eckenrode, S. L. (2015).Hydrocodoneis a form of
opiate, analgesic, it is described as white crystals as a crystalline powder and reacts to light. This
drug classified as a schedule II drug known as a controlled substance. Hydrocodone is often
always found in combination with acetaminophen such as Vicodin and Lortab (Advokat, C. D.,
Comaty, J. E., Julien, R. M. 2014). As of 2012, the United States Hydrocodone is the most used
drug prescribed to treat pain. The United States has consumed 99% of this global supply for 4.4%
of the worldwide population. (Manchikanti, L., Atluri, S., Kaye, A.M., Kaye, A.D). The US Drug
and food administration approved the drug for sale in the United States in 1943.
Mechanism of Action The Mechanism of Action in Hydrocodone is not known, but it is believed it
Opioid receptors againist the central nervous system. What we do know is that it the source of the
hydrocodone is Semisynthetic with two naturally occurring opiates, codeine, and thebaine
(Eckenrode, S. L. (2015). Neurotransmitters effected from the usage of hydrocodone is the brain
neurotransmitters. It can impair brain function to where you can t function normally without
having the drug in your system. The neurotransmitter control movement, mood, digestion, body
temperature, and breathing. Using this medicine can cause the neurotransmitters to discharge ant

The following advertising controversially displays a symbol of dogmatism. Eerily similar to the
pasta noodles package American Beauty one would see in their local supermarket. Dogmatism
is exemplified on this movie soundtrack cover as it is exposes the observer to first a highlighted
Warhol tinged title. One fact that contradicts this hidden reasoning is there is more than one
America, and the Americas are indigenous to many races and cultures. An additional example
of the one sided attitude marketers had towards the promotion of this advertisement is its
stereotypical image of how many people in the world perceives North American women to be.
This title plays upon all people wanting to fit in of the idea of what they perceive beauty to be.
As it also echoes the sexist fifties symbols of pinup girls. Underneath it seems like this image is

so flawless it only needs to be adorned in roses. In this image it seems that roses can be smelt as
well as draw upon other senses. This ad unwillingly touches the inner emotions in all who view it.
It also devalues the principles America is known for, not only the melting pot of the world, but a
place where women have fought for liberties greater than this single sided image.

Resurrection By Jill Lepore s Resurrection From The...
In Jill Lepore s chapter Resurrection from The Mansion of Happiness, she discusses her encounter
with Robert Ettinger and his scientific work on resurrecting people who have died through the
freezing of bodies. According to the Christian Theological teaching of Jesus s Death and
Resurrection, his act of dying on the cross and rising saved us from our sins and overcame the
power of death. Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, there was a promise for us, our souls, to
be brought to everlasting life in the Kingdom of God when the time comes for each of us.
Before death, we are called to live out the Kingdom of God on Earth to build relationships, do
good works, and fulfill whatever drives us to live. What makes all of this valuable is that we
know our time is not infinite on earth. The idea of cryonics and being able to live forever
destroys the significance of time on Earth and the value of what it means to live. Ettinger
believes Cryonics is the solution to solving people s fear of death because it gives the people
hope that they will live again and continue with their daily lives. He states that there are only
three ways to go after one dies. You can be buried, burned, or frozen (173). According to Ettinger,
if there is no God, being frozen is the only option that may give the person a chance at an
afterlife. This is because when one prays to God believing that he will be brought back to life
after dying, the living people will have no way of knowing what actually

Wrongful Convictions

April 2011
Every year in the United States of America, millions of crimes are committed that violate and harm
the individual rights, properties, and freedoms that are not only guaranteed to American citizens of
this country, but also naturally inherent to mankind as whole. Based on the founding principles of
our country, which are derived from the Constitution of these United States, justice is dealt
accordingly to the perpetrators of these crimes. While this justice is usually fair, due to certain
rights given to those who may be charged with crimes, sometimes an error is made. A simple

The 26 year old woman, on the other hand, had pointed them out and identified them as the
perpetrators. Dupree was subsequently charged with one count of aggravated robbery and one
count of rape, and put on trial. During litigation, both victims had testified that Dupree was one of
the men who carjacked them in November. Disregarding the fact that the two defendants were not
originally noticed in police lineups by the male victim, and despite the woman s repeated mixing
up of the two defendants identities in court, the jury somehow thought the defense of mistaken
identity was not possible, and thus both men were found guilty of aggravated robbery. The jury
decided to not indict Dupree on charges of abduction or rape because they had felt any further
convictions would not have been very significant; he was already given a sentence of 75 years in
prison. After the initial trial, Dupree s attempts of appealing the decision were rejected three times,
because he would not admit to being a sex offender. Throughout his time in incarceration, Dupree
maintained his innocence; even turning down two opportunities for early parole, because he would
not admit guilt and confess to a crime he did not commit. In 2006, his case was picked up by The
Texas Innocence Project, and by July of 2007, the Innocent Project team requested permission from

Maternity is now divisible into genetic, gestational, and social motherhood, and these roles can
be spread among a number of women. This division is most apparent in the case of surrogate
mothers, where at least three (and possibly as many as five) women can attempt to claim
parental rights over a child. If Mrs. A is infertile and Mrs. B agrees to provide ova to be fertilized
in vitro with semen from Mr. A, and embryos are transferred to Mrs. C, who agrees to carry the
baby to term and hand it over to Mrs. A and her husband after birth, the situation becomes extremely
complex and the basic tenets of family law uncertain. This situation creates the potential for
enormous conflict over who should be considered the mother and has the concomitant parental
rights and responsibilities for the child. For example, in the Baby M case, there was a conflict
between two conceptions of motherhood , the legal (commissioning mother) and the biological
(surrogate mother). Surrogacy breaks down and devolves the role of mother, separating the social
and nurturing part of motherhood from the genetic contribution and the birthing process.
Commercialization and Exploitation While surrogacy in general raises a host of social and ethical
problems, I believe that commercial surrogacy in particular can crystallize the difficulties that
many people have with surrogacy, and help us get to the core of how

To What Extent Does Multi-Level Government Increase...
To what extent does multi level government increase democracy and bring government closer to the
people?
The United Kingdom consists of four countries; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. As
the UK is a unitary state, the main power is centralised at Westminster. However, since 1997,
power has been devolved to five different areas; the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, the
Northern Ireland Assembly, the Greater London Assembly and elected mayors in a number of
cities, such as London. There are also several levels of local government, such as county and district
councils and unitary authorities.

Parliament and the Welsh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This therefore brings power closer to the Scottish people, through the Scottish Parliament, but in
hand it takes power away from the English people. This may be because there is no purely English
devolved body in comparison to the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland
Assembly. Power is also brought closer to the people as devolved bodies can hold referendums;
however, on the other hand, they are limited on what they can hold referendums about.
On the other hand, devolution had failed to resolve the problem of voter apathy, for example, barely
1 in 4 of the electorate voted in favour of the Welsh Assembly. The use of PR in the devolved
assemblies has weakened the link between elected representatives and their constituents. The
Conservatives argue that devolution has undermined the unity of the UK, and some argue that the
Barnett formula is too generous towards the Scottish. Also, most importantly, it is argued that
devolution raised the problematic West Lothian question.
Devolution has not brought power closer to the people in that regional councils only have limited
power and are tokenistic . The Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly are merely symbols of
national identity, for example. Also, councils have fixed

s.21(1) gives no property to Ronaldo.
On the other hand Ronaldo can rely on s.25(1), as Benjamin did not notice him regarding his
previous transaction with Maurice. Benjamin got the cargo from Maurice in good faith33, which
also happened with Ronaldo receiving the same Bill of Lading from Benjamin in line with the
definitions given in s.2(1) s.2(4), paying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, if we take the view that property had not passed to Benjamin, then s.39(2) also
gives Maurice the right of stoppage of the goods as s.41(c) s.44 confirm that the unpaid seller
Maurice has exercisable rights on the goods. However, what confuses the case is that Benjamin
had already sold the cargo to Ronaldo. If Maurice had taken action against Benjamin prior to the
re sale, then no such issue would have arisen, as the property would be an issue between these two
parties which means that Maurice could exercise his aforementioned rights against him , but now a
third person has the title of the goods and has nothing to do with the conflict between Benjamin
and Maurice since he acted in good faith. Accordingly, under s.43(1)(b) Maurice s rights on the
cargo cease to exist, since Ronaldo lawfully obtained the bill of lading by Benjamin. In support of
his statement s.47(2)(a) also provides that no lien, retention or stoppage can be exercised on the
consignment.
To sum up, since the action against Benjamin was effected after Ronaldo had acquired the title of
the goods, Maurice had no right on the cargo.
8.Stoppage in transit Letter of indemnity Non delivery of the goods
According to the definition of the transit period in s. 45(1) SOGA 1979, the goods were in transitu
when the transactions between the involved parties took place.

How Does Lee Present Scout s Relationship In To Kill A...
They are your competition, yet they support you. They are your enemy, yet when it comes down to
it you end up fighting side by side. They hate you, yet love you more than words could say. Sibling
relationships are among the most complicated and confusing things to understand. Complex sibling
relationships are seen everywhere, whether you are reading or watching televison. To Kill a
Mockingbird is just one example of literature that contains a siblingdynamic effecting the theme.
Harper Lee skillfully tells of the compelling relationship between Jem and Scout, as it unfolds and
contributes to the strong theme, change versus tradition.
Verbarendse 2
Throughout the publication Jem and Scout mature as people, adapt to changes around them, and
develop a close bond.
The theme, change versus tradition, is ever present throughout the storyline. It is first revealed as
Jem begins to grow up and doesn t have time for Scout. This is evident in the following quotation:
Jem was twelve. He was difficult to live with, inconsistent, moody. His appetite was appalling, and
he told me so many times to stop pestering him... (Lee 153) This causes tension between the two
and shows that change is beginning to take place, breaking up the traditional interactions between

The ecosystem health indicators strongly influenced by land use.( 7)
The most impact of land use is sedimentation and water quality.
Sedimentation
The deforestation, agriculture, resource extraction, urbanization, and infrastructure development
have a greater influence on erosion rates and sediment transport in rivers which directly affect for
climate change.
All these activities impact on sedimentation process of the River in different ways. Assessing these
impacts comprehensively is important for more effective environmental management of the river
drainage basin. The natural vegetation has been destroyed by humans and slope lands have been
cultivated. Thus, erosion is extremely high, and suspended sediment load and concentration in
river. The sedimentation, the level of riverbed has risen continuously and the water level at a given
discharge so for maintain that scientist build artificial levees higher and higher. However, in the
meantime, with the rapid development of agriculture and industry, water consumption has increased
sharply, greatly reducing the river flow. Sediment deposition in river channel depends on the
relationship between the ability of the stream flow to carry sediment and the river s load i.e., on the
amount of sediment supplied to the river from the drainage basin. Erosion and sediment control
measures reduce the amount of sediment entering the river, resulting in a

Shiba Inu Essay
Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu is a dog breed that originates from Japan and is one of the distinct spitz types of
breeds. It is the smallest of the original spitz breeds and breeder who originally bred it wanted to
have a good hunting dog hence it is bred for hunting especially in Japans thick forests and mountain
areas. The Shiba Inu is also known as the Japanese Shiba Inu or the Shiba Ken but it is at easy to
confuse with the Akita Inu and the Hokkaido which are also Japanese dog breeds. The Shiba is
generally smaller compared to other dog breeds that originate from Japan and it has a different
temperament.

The white Shiba Inu remains a beautiful dog and some dog owners will prefer the white one
compared to colored Shiba Inus.
Black Shiba Inu
This is a Shiba Inu that has a black coat. Rarely do you find an entirely black Shiba Inu, but
rather they are usually black and tan. Black Shiba Inu is more popular compared to the white
Shiba Inu due to the fact that for the black one, the Urajiro is visible and this is considered to be
a mark of beauty for the dog. Born black, the parts of the dog where the Urajiro is will
continuously fade until it is completely visible.
The Urajiro appears on the side of its jaws, under the jaw itself, on the neck and chest as well as
the stomach and the underside of the dog. It is also visible on the fore chest and goes down to
the shoulder joints. The different parts of the coat that have different colors usually have a high
contrast to each other making the black Shiba Inu look amazing and this is why most breeders
will insist that it is standard for a Shiba Inu to have the Urajiro present so as to be allowed to take
part in a dog

Flexible Li-Ion Batteries Essay
Flexible Li ion batteries (LIBs) have a strong oncoming consumer market demand for use in
wearable electronic devices, flexible smart electronics, roll up displays, electronic shelf labels,
active radio frequency identification tags, and implantable medical devices. This market demand
necessitates research and development of flexible LIBs in order to fulfill the power requirements of
these next generation devices. One of the main areas of research and development of high
performance flexible LIBs is the active and inactive materials used in manufacturing these batteries.
Active materials are those materials used in the battery electrodes that can store lithium ions in their
structure. The remaining materials used in manufacturing flexible... Show more content on

As explained by IDTech Ex report that the flexible electronics market will reach over $76 billion
by 2023[1],while the market for flexible, thin, stretchable and bendable batteries will grow to
become about $471 million industry by 2026[2]. Additionally, the product is considered the most
promising energy storage device with low carbon dioxide emission. The energy density of the
lithium ion battery range between 120 170 Wh Kg 1 and 250 380 Wh l 1 more higher than Ni Cd
and Lead acid[3]. LIB has three major electronically active components namely anode, electrolyte,
and cathode. The anode is the negative electrode that releases electrons into an external circuit
during a discharge process that involves the oxidation of chemical reactions. On the other hand, the
cathode is the positive electrode that is reduced during a reaction. Notably, the lithium ions are
stored within the cathode after a cell is discharged. Both cathode and anode stores energy while on
charge, and releases it on discharge[4]. Cathode materials have relatively high electrochemical
potentials while anode materials have low potentials. This design approach helps maximize the
battery s output voltage. The final active component of the LIB is the electrolyte. It is a mixture of
a set of organic solvents containing disassociated lithium salts that enables Li+ transportation
between the anode and the cathode. Besides, other complementary components, such as current
collectors attached to the

Slopestyle Snowboarding
Imagine this: you re on the starting line, feet strapped firmly into boots on your snowboard. The
start horn sounds, and you re off, flying down the slope, jumping obstacles and landing tricks.
Slopestyle snowboarding has gained popularity as an Olympic sport, even if it is pretty young.
The lack of time the sport has been around doesn t mean it isn t well developed. It has a history,
and many people competing with a set scoring system and rules. Bored Americans who had way too
much time on their hands created snowboarding. In the decade of the 60s, snowboarding was born,
getting more interesting as skateboarders and surfers joined the early developers of the sport. As
the sport gained popularity, it also gained it s haters mainly skiers.... Show more content on

According to the Federation International de Ski (FIS), overall impression is the main scoring
method. Half a dozen judges score adversaries on the tricks they perform. Diversity,
implementation, and complexity of the tricks as well as landing in the sweet spot will all
impact the point total (McMahon). The more technically perfect a run is and the harder the
tricks performed will result in a higher score. Compared to some other Olympic sports,
snowboarding could be referred to as still a fledgling. However, the sport is becoming as trendy
as some of the older winter sports. I also find it slightly ironic that the FIS, a skiing organization,
scores snowboarding when it was skiers who were originally against the sport. People from all
nations score big by landing impressive tricks. The variation of nationalities that snowboarders
come from means that no matter where you come from, there is someone in this event you can
cheer for.

the tragic hero s destiny of free will which ultimately leads to his eventual downfall and his internal

Directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Miles Teller (Andrew) and J.K. Simmons (Fletcher), the film portrays how far a teacher would go to push his students to greatness. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fletcher s physical and emotional abuse behavior seems to strengthen him. Although the audience might expect students to succumb to pressure in the hands of seemingly tyrannical instructor, they thrive and exhibit his quest to learn despite the obvious challenges. Arguably, Andrew typifies what artists can achieve if they believe in their mentors despite humiliation and misery in the music industry. Andrew shows the audience perseverance, especially when he plays the drums to a point of bleeding (Chazelle). The fear of losing the tempo and beat is well reflected in student s keenness to practice according to the teacher s instructions. In Andrew s character, Damien Chazelle infuses the highest level of ambition. Fletcher complements this goal to the degree of obsession and perfection. Although Andrew experiences the extreme psychological and physical trauma from the jazz mentor, he is willing to sacrifice everything to achieve success. The concept of achievement and failure is evident in the duo s stellar performance. Whiplash captures the concept of success and failure in which the former prevails. In the hands of strict and perfectionist instructor, Andrew has to sacrifice everything, including his girlfriend and his relationship with his father to become a great jazz drummer. Skillfully, Chazelle maneuvers Andrew s pursuit of greatness towards the conventional happy conclusion. Such maneuvering raises a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this new reality, the United States should think of infrastructure not in the general but in the specific, understanding the ways in which different infrastructure sectors such as transportation, energy, and water are governed, financed, and delivered. At the same time, metropolitan areas need to outline their priorities given their distinct economies, competitive advantages, and infrastructure needs. As public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States faces an unprecedented number of economic, demographic, fiscal, and environmental challenges that compel both the government and the private sector to rethink the way they do business. While these new forces are incredibly diverse including everything from the shale gas revolution to renewed consumer preferences for urban living they share one underlying need: modern, efficient, and reliable infrastructure. Tangible assets made of concrete, steel, and fiber optic cable are essential building blocks of the American economy. Infrastructure enables global trade, powers businesses, connects workers to their jobs, creates new opportunities for struggling communities, and protects America from an unpredictable natural environment. From private investments in telecommunication systems, broadband networks, freight railroads, energy projects, and pipelines, to public investments in transportation, water, public buildings, and parks, America s infrastructure is the backbone of a healthy national economy. Infrastructure also supports American workers, providing millions of jobs each year to build and maintain the structures and facilities that power our economy. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that approximately 14 million Americans are employed in fields directly related to infrastructure. • 6. The Cause And Effects Of The Little Ice Age Little Ice Age For five centuries, Europe basked in warm, settled weather, with only the occasional bitter winters, cool summers and memorable storms. Summer after summer passed with long, dreamy days, golden sunlight and bountiful harvests. Compared with what was to follow, these centuries were a climatic golden age. (Homewood)The cold weather of these centuries lead to the growth of Glaciers. Glaciers form when snow stays in the same area year round, and them becomes ice. Each year the new layer add to the old ones and it forms a big pile of ice. Eventually the air pockets get smaller and the ice gets tighter compacted. For most Glaciers take about 100 years to go through the process.(National Snow) Due to the Cold climateand starvation, the Little Ice agekilled off a huge amount of the Northern Hemisphere between the 13th and 19th centuries. There is no telling what happened to cause the Little Ice Age. Many scientists have tried to figure this mystery out. Not all of them agree, but some think what caused the disaster is that the sun started giving off less heat and that there was an increase in volcanic erupting. Others say that the decrease in greenhouse gas lead to larger amounts of sea ice. Also, he slow greenhouse gas increase was the main driver of the sea ice changes.(SedlГЎДЌek, Jan and Lawrence)No one knows which one of these inferences are correct, but with technology getting more sophisticated, future scientist might be able to solve the mystery of the ... Society today has made it their utmost priority to entertain the crowd that even torturing animals, snatching them away from their families, and forgetting about their feelings means nothing. Zoos do not give the warm and comforting environment that animals once used to have. These animals feel depressed, miserable, and tortured, but are forced to pretend to smile and play in front of the crowd. Zoos should definitely not be perceived as a place for entertainment for the reason that they deprive animals of natural habitat, harm animals mentally, and damage them physically. Zoos should be forbidden as they bring a lot of life threatening harms to animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example In the wild elephants walk about 30 miles a day in herds, in zoos they don t get enough space for their 30 mile walks and only get a couple of other elephants to be with. • 11. Compare And Contrast The Han And Roman Empires Each empire has its own unique strengths and differences that aid in their emergence, growth, and decline. While there are many differences between empires, there are fundamental similarities that are common throughout every society. The Han, Mauryan, and Roman Empires all have different strengths and differences, but are fundamentally the empires are similar in their primary doctrines. Following the fall of the Qin Dynasty in 206 B.C.E., the Han Dynastywas founded by Liu Bang. Bang veered away from a policy of centralized power, and moved towards a system of power concentrating on the imperial court. The Han Dynasty adopted ideals from both Confucianism and Legalism. Additionally, the Han fostered the Silk Road, which allowed for long distance trade and better communication among nations. The immense expansion of both foreign and domestic trade enabled the Han to prosper greatly. Furthermore, the addition of new technologies such as iron casting, textile manufacturing, and watermills allowed the Han economy to further advance itself. The leading factor of the decline of the Han Dynasty was its inability to restrict the power of wealthy clans who constructed large estates on vast areas of land and made tenants out of free farmers. This separation of classes caused the dynasty to destruct itself due to the fundamental weakness brought on by a lack of unity within the nation. • 12. The Character of Ophelia Essay The Character of Ophelia In Shakespeare s tragedies, the characters all have flaws that eventually lead to their undoing. In the play Hamlet, the character of Ophelia is ultimately killed by her flaw. It is apparent that Ophelia is an obedient person but, upon closer inspection, the audience can see that she is not merely obedient. Ophelia s thoughts and actions go beyond obedience to show that she is a weak and entirely dependent character. Nothing that she says or does is a representation of herself but mostly that of her father. Ophelia s cruel actions towards Hamlet, which go against her feelings for him, demonstrate her obedience to her father. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia tells her father that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ophelia s obedience and weakness as a character can be traced to her complete dependence on other people. Her dependence on others is evident in the very beginning: I do not know, my lord, what I should think. POL: Marry, I will teach you. Think yourself a baby... (act 1, scene 3). This shows how Ophelia depends on her father to determine what she should think and feel. Ophelia s complete dependence, or lack of independence, is what leads to her demise. Still, Ophelia s dependence on others was not entirely her fault. It could have been caused by her father and brother s protection over her. Polonius and Laertes were always there for Ophelia, whether she needed it or not, causing her to develop a major character flaw. Her flaw was her complete dependence on others, which can also be shown through her obedience and overall weakness as a character. Ophelia s dependence on others is, sadly, what lead to her death. Reflective Essay On Civil Rights During our time in class, we discussed several themes pertaining to the rights and freedoms of the LGBTQ community, and spoke at length about some of the landmark cases that helped to give the community the liberties that they enjoy today. In order to better understand the struggle that the community had to endure in order to achieve these rights, we will review several different cases and tie them to things we learned in class, analyzing the roles that they played in achieving progress in various fields that were once dangers for members of this group. By understanding some of the landmark legal actions that were made in the quest for equal rights, perhaps then we can more fully understand the extent of the obstacles that they have overcome. And not all of these cases go in their favor, either, showing that even at the highest echelons of the American legal system, there have been and still continue to be significant prejudices which must be faced day in and day out. The most important step forward in the timeline of LGBTQ rights was the acceptance that homosexual acts were, in fact, not crimes, and that homosexuals could live in the open without fear of repercussion from the law. In class, we discussed the case of Bowers v. Hardwick, which upheld the constitutionality of sodomy laws and effectively criminalized homosexual relations until the 2003 case of Lawrence v. Each quatrain is used to develop a sequence of metaphors or ideas. The couplets are used to summarise the sonnet or is a new take on the foregoing ideas and images. Most of Shakespearean sonnets focus on the theme of love, beauty and worthiness. Sonnet 18 s theme focused on the stability of love and its power to immortalize the subject about whom the poet was writing. The rhyming couplets in this poem helps redefine the whole poem and also sums it up. It states that the poet believes that as long as there is breath in mankind, his poetry too will live on and that the person that is described in the poem will remain immortal. In Sonnet 18, each line is end stopped and self contained; there is punctuation at the end of each line, which creates a pause. All of the lines between one to nine are comparing a man to the summer s day as the first line, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? , helps define the comparisons that are written later on in the poem (the main axis of comparison). From the ninth line of the poem, the volta takes place and Shakespeare switches from describing a man with the summer day to describing the immortality of his beloved. (2012) agrees consumers value fashion and quality however argues they are not willing to pay a high price for something new and innovative. (Dickson Pollack, 2000) add to this statement in relation to sports garments with female consumers regarding aesthetic aspects such as style and brand characteristics to be more essential than the functional aspects such as comfort and other physical performance enhancing features. Similarly (Eckma et al., 1990) reports on the evaluation of purchase behaviour in women s apparel. Style was chosen as more important in determining rejection or adoption of the garments. A visual criterion seems to have the greatest impact on selection of apparel such as fashion ability or popularity, aesthetic appeal, and self expression (Eckma et al., 1990). Although it seems there is a divide in opinion when it comes to retail pricing the majority of research studies seems to suggest there is a major emphasis on the aesthetic appearance. In Powerball, winning a grand amount of money can fulfill one for a while, but then something can unexpectively change that satisfaction forever. Humans can never be gratified. The macroscopic, microscopic and radiographic appearance of bone must be recorded in reference to trauma and disease, this may then be compared to ante mortem records. When considering the pathology aspect of the investigation the type of disease must be contemplated (lytic, proliferative, deformative, trauma) and the ratio of bone being lost to bone being formed. The type of bone being formed is also important and how the bone loss and or formation has transformed the size and shape of the bone. When surveying the remains, it must be acknowledged which parts of the body are affected and the position of the ailment within each bone. The location in which the symptoms are manifested may be an indicator as to which condition the deceased was affected by (Ferguson and Black, 2011). Bone morphology is another method which may be used for identification, the shape of the bones are unique and may be used as a fingerprint to be compared to ante mortem medical records (Cattaneo, 2007). 3. Diseases of Bone Bone diseases affect the remodelling of bones. In healthy bone, bone is laid down (ossified) and resorbed as needed. In diseased bone, the natural balance of resorption and ossification is affected leading to there being a net loss or gain of bone. • 22. Coming Out By Heiner Carow Within German cinema, one can identify a particular type of films taking place in, and thematizing issues of, the former East German state. Given the undemocratic nature of the GDR, these films are particularly suited to discuss the way that people react to a status quo: whether by accepting it and conforming to it, or by rejecting and subverting it in various ways. These different options appear in the two films analysed in this essay. Coming Out (1989) by Heiner Carow was filmed in the GDR, and charts a gay man s process of acceptance of himself. The Lives of Others(2006) by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck looks back at the GDR s past, and more specifically at the actions of the Stasi. Its plot, set in 1984, follows a Stasi agent s conversion to political subversion and to being a good man . First, this essay will examine the representation of acceptance of the status quo in these films, before turning to the portrayal of subversion. Lastly, it will highlight some of the negative aspects of the subversion depicted such aspects being introduced either in a conscious and critical way, or not. First, acceptance of the status quo occurs in its internalization by the characters. At this stage, they do not question the rules of the society in which they live. Thus, in Coming Out, Philipp tries to fit into the dominant heterosexual model by settling into domestic life with his fiancГ©e, because he has internalized homophobia, having lived in a heterosexist society all ... • 25. Causes Of The Haitian Revolution Whenever resistance is practiced, the collaboration of different identities is necessary in order to successfully take action against an opposition. These diverse identities can be racially different, sexually different, or even socially different, but still all have one common goal of practicing resistance. Freed slaves of mixed ancestry in Haitiplayed more important and powerful roles in plantation societies than blacks, such as catching slaves and gaining control over blacks. Although the mixed Haitians had different social identities from African slaves, these groups still collaborated in the Haitian revolution. Mixed Haitians, called Gens De Couleur or Mulattoes, had more power than blacks, which created a racial hierarchy that acted as the cornerstone for the Haitian slave rebellion. The different groups of non whites recognized the inequality, though on different scales for each class, and revolted against the French for enforcing these inequalities. With the collaboration of Affranchis (freed slaves) and African slaves, the Haitian Revolution transpired, leading to the rebellion against French colonial rule, and thus an anti slaverynation led by non whites. As described by Michael A. Gomez in Reversing Sail , the conditions of slavery in Haiti were degrading. • 36. Resurrection By Jill Lepore s Resurrection From The... In Jill Lepore s chapter Resurrection from The Mansion of Happiness, she discusses her encounter with Robert Ettinger and his scientific work on resurrecting people who have died through the freezing of bodies. According to the Christian Theological teaching of Jesus s Death and Resurrection, his act of dying on the cross and rising saved us from our sins and overcame the power of death. Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, there was a promise for us, our souls, to be brought to everlasting life in the Kingdom of God when the time comes for each of us. Before death, we are called to live out the Kingdom of God on Earth to build relationships, do good works, and fulfill whatever drives us to live. What makes all of this valuable is that we know our time is not infinite on earth. The idea of cryonics and being able to live forever destroys the significance of time on Earth and the value of what it means to live. Ettinger believes Cryonics is the solution to solving people s fear of death because it gives the people hope that they will live again and continue with their daily lives. He states that there are only three ways to go after one dies. You can be buried, burned, or frozen (173). According to Ettinger, if there is no God, being frozen is the only option that may give the person a chance at an afterlife. This is because when one prays to God believing that he will be brought back to life after dying, the living people will have no way of knowing what actually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Based on the founding principles of our country, which are derived from the Constitution of these United States, justice is dealt accordingly to the perpetrators of these crimes. Disregarding the fact that the two defendants were not originally noticed in police lineups by the male victim, and despite the woman s repeated mixing up of the two defendants identities in court, the jury somehow thought the defense of mistaken identity was not possible, and thus both men were found guilty of aggravated robbery. The jury decided to not indict Dupree on charges of abduction or rape because they had felt any further convictions would not have been very significant; he was already given a sentence of 75 years in prison. This division is most apparent in the case of surrogate mothers, where at least three (and possibly as many as five) women can attempt to claim parental rights over a child. If Mrs. A is infertile and Mrs. B agrees to provide ova to be fertilized in vitro with semen from Mr. A, and embryos are transferred to Mrs. C, who agrees to carry the baby to term and hand it over to Mrs. A and her husband after birth, the situation becomes extremely complex and the basic tenets of family law uncertain. This situation creates the potential for enormous conflict over who should be considered the mother and has the concomitant parental rights and responsibilities for the child. For example, in the Baby M case, there was a conflict between two conceptions of motherhood , the legal (commissioning mother) and the biological (surrogate mother). Surrogacy breaks down and devolves the role of mother, separating the social and nurturing part of motherhood from the genetic contribution and the birthing process. • 39. To What Extent Does Multi-Level Government Increase... To what extent does multi level government increase democracy and bring government closer to the people? The United Kingdom consists of four countries; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. As the UK is a unitary state, the main power is centralised at Westminster. However, since 1997, power has been devolved to five different areas; the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, the Northern Ireland Assembly, the Greater London Assembly and elected mayors in a number of cities, such as London. There are also several levels of local government, such as county and district councils and unitary authorities. Devolution is the transfer of power from Westminster to regional bodies, such as the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This therefore brings power closer to the Scottish people, through the Scottish Parliament, but in hand it takes power away from the English people. This may be because there is no purely English devolved body in comparison to the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland Assembly. Power is also brought closer to the people as devolved bodies can hold referendums; however, on the other hand, they are limited on what they can hold referendums about. On the other hand, devolution had failed to resolve the problem of voter apathy, for example, barely 1 in 4 of the electorate voted in favour of the Welsh Assembly. The use of PR in the devolved assemblies has weakened the link between elected representatives and their constituents. The Conservatives argue that devolution has undermined the unity of the UK, and some argue that the Barnett formula is too generous towards the Scottish. Also, most importantly, it is argued that devolution raised the problematic West Lothian question. Devolution has not brought power closer to the people in that regional councils only have limited power and are tokenistic . The Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly are merely symbols of national identity, for example. Also, councils have fixed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Ronaldo s Acceptance Of Goods By Benjamin 5.Ronaldo s acceptance of goods by Benjamin Here arises the issue of whether Benjamin had the authority to sale the cargo to Ronaldo. It can be claimed that there are two opinions on this subject. On the one hand Benjamin never became lawful holder of the shipment under s.19(3) of SOGA 1979 and as a result he had no right on the goods property. This fact and in combination with s.21(1) gives no property to Ronaldo. On the other hand Ronaldo can rely on s.25(1), as Benjamin did not notice him regarding his previous transaction with Maurice. Benjamin got the cargo from Maurice in good faith33, which also happened with Ronaldo receiving the same Bill of Lading from Benjamin in line with the definitions given in s.2(1) s.2(4), paying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, if we take the view that property had not passed to Benjamin, then s.39(2) also gives Maurice the right of stoppage of the goods as s.41(c) s.44 confirm that the unpaid seller Maurice has exercisable rights on the goods. However, what confuses the case is that Benjamin had already sold the cargo to Ronaldo. If Maurice had taken action against Benjamin prior to the re sale, then no such issue would have arisen, as the property would be an issue between these two parties which means that Maurice could exercise his aforementioned rights against him , but now a third person has the title of the goods and has nothing to do with the conflict between Benjamin and Maurice since he acted in good faith. Accordingly, under s.43(1)(b) Maurice s rights on the cargo cease to exist, since Ronaldo lawfully obtained the bill of lading by Benjamin. In support of his statement s.47(2)(a) also provides that no lien, retention or stoppage can be exercised on the consignment. To sum up, since the action against Benjamin was effected after Ronaldo had acquired the title of the goods, Maurice had no right on the cargo. 8.Stoppage in transit Letter of indemnity Non delivery of the goods According to the definition of the transit period in s. 45(1) SOGA 1979, the goods were in transitu when the transactions between the involved parties took place. ... Sedimentation The deforestation, agriculture, resource extraction, urbanization, and infrastructure development have a greater influence on erosion rates and sediment transport in rivers which directly affect for climate change. All these activities impact on sedimentation process of the River in different ways. Assessing these impacts comprehensively is important for more effective environmental management of the river drainage basin. The natural vegetation has been destroyed by humans and slope lands have been cultivated. Thus, erosion is extremely high, and suspended sediment load and concentration in river. As explained by IDTech Ex report that the flexible electronics market will reach over $76 billion by 2023[1],while the market for flexible, thin, stretchable and bendable batteries will grow to become about $471 million industry by 2026[2]. Additionally, the product is considered the most promising energy storage device with low carbon dioxide emission. The energy density of the lithium ion battery range between 120 170 Wh Kg 1 and 250 380 Wh l 1 more higher than Ni Cd and Lead acid[3]. LIB has three major electronically active components namely anode, electrolyte, and cathode. The anode is the negative electrode that releases electrons into an external circuit during a discharge process that involves the oxidation of chemical reactions. On the other hand, the cathode is the positive electrode that is reduced during a reaction. Notably, the lithium ions are stored within the cathode after a cell is discharged. Both cathode and anode stores energy while on charge, and releases it on discharge[4]. Cathode materials have relatively high electrochemical potentials while anode materials have low potentials. This design approach helps maximize the battery s output voltage. The final active component of the LIB is the electrolyte. It is a mixture of a set of organic solvents containing disassociated lithium salts that enables Li+ transportation between the anode and the cathode. Besides, other complementary components, such as current collectors attached to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
