Free Trade In America
Problem: Working class Americans experience difficulties in finding work as labor intensive jobs are
moved abroad. At the same time free trade is beneficial for the global economy as a whole. Here we
can see a clash in interests as the interests of those in developing countries are protected as well by the
WTO and free trade tends to be beneficial for the economy as a whole. However, the problem is that
20% of the prime male working population between the ages of 25 54 are unemployed and this
number is around 35% of those who don t have a high school diploma. For marginalized groups such
as African American males the teen unemployment is over 40% and that of young black men from the
ages of 16 24 is over 30%.
Courses of action:
Companies can be encouraged to locate their production processes in the US by implementing
subsidies. In Europe for instance, it has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As tariffs would disadvantage free international trade it is important to focus on how much is possible
regarding the WTO restrictions on barriers and tariffs.
The US might follow the course that Western European nations follow in decreasing the
unemployment rate. Countries such as Germany have been using strategies such as job sharing and
short time work to encourage employers to cut the hours instead of laying off their employees. This
method has never been implemented in the US and could be quite successful.
Training is another factor that could reduce the unemployment rate of low skilled workers. Training,
however, is mostly offered by employers and not by the government. Often training is also offered to
the most skilled and educated workers opposed to low skilled workers. Furthermore, the amount of
money spent on training by the government only entails 0,4% of the American GDP, whereas, it is
more than 10 times as high for countries such as Denmark, Germany and the

Compare And Contrast The New Deal And The Jacksonian Era
A reform movement is a type of social movement that aims to make a gradual change in certain
aspects of society, rather than rapid or fundamental changes. Reforms targeted the causes of the
depression and sought to prevent a crisis like it from happening again. By financially rebuilding the
U.S. while ensuring not to repeat history. The New Deal period and the Jacksonian Era are periods that
introduced many reforms during those times.
The New Deal was a series of federal programs, public work projects, financial reforms and
regulations enacted in the United States during the 1930s, by the response to the Great Depression. At
the beginning of the Great Depression, the economy was destabilized by bank failures followed by
credit difficulties.

Pulp Fiction Analysis
Tarantino s Depiction of Violence
Quentin Tarantino is well known and often criticized for his depiction of violence in his films.
Although at times graphic, Tarantino s violence holds a purpose. This paper will look at two films,
Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, and their depiction of violence and the aesthetics used. It will also
look at classic film conventions and ultraviolence aesthetics used by Tarantino. Finally, the paper will
determine what aesthetics Tarantino carries over in each film.
Quentin Tarantino s depiction of violence in Pulp Fiction becomes bloodier and more graphic as the
film continues. Early in the film, Martellus shoots two people, neither of which show any blood or
even a gunshot wound. Tarantino uses a classic film convention where the victim of the gunshot
clutches the spot where they were shot, covering what in real life would be a gunshot wound. He
employs another classic film convention later when Mia is stabbed in the heart with the adrenaline
shot. Instead of showing the violent act, Tarantino shows Mia s reaction to being stabbed in the heart.
In the next segment of the film, Butch shoots Vincent with a small machine gun. It riddles Vincent s
body with bullet holes and is the first time the clutch technique isn t used. Vincent s body is shown
covered in blood around the abdomen in a very bloody bathroom. This marks the transition in Pulp
Fiction from a more classical style of violence to contemporary ultraviolence.
From now on in the film,

Example Of A Cultural Autobiography Example
There is nothing quite like a Cultural Autobiography to make you reexamine your life and upbringing.
I was born into a normal Jamaican family, ten fingers ten toes was all that was needed back then. I was
the youngest of two sisters and one brother. My parents were unmarried and my sibling, who I grew
up with and I shared different fathers. As a family we never discussed family members outside our
immediate families and with only half siblings the idea of we figured our distant relatives were either
family or complete strangers. My earliest memory has always been of me and my older brother getting
into trouble and our sisters scolding us. The oldest was 8 years older than me and she took the role of
our guardian due to our parent s careers. My father was a Police Officer and my mother was a
Certified Nurse Assistant both hard working and devoted Christians. This is in line with the majority
of citizens in Jamaica. My story begins with my father, all throughout my childhood he has always
been strict and distant. Similar to me, he was raised the youngest among his four siblings albeit in the
countryside of Jamaica. He studied the bible and at one point started his academic journey in hopes of
becoming a pastor. Somewhere along his journey he decided to forgo that desire and chose to become
an officer of the law instead. His early life was marked with humble stories of walking several miles
barefooted to go to school in order become more educated. Studying and working hard in

Media Ownership Media is not just television and radio. The French media ownership is distributed
over four different forms of media. The media is consisted radio, internet, television, and newspaper.
The French people are more old fashion. They rely mostly on radio and newspaper. They spend very
little time in front of a television set or in front of a computer screen. The rest of the world spends so
much more time in front of computer screens and televisions sets compared to the French citizens. The
media in France is not like the media in the United States, the French have a greater sense of freedom

(TranslateMedia) The second most popular form of media in France is radio. In France radio is
consumed for an average of 3 hours and 11 minutes a day. They have 55,300,000 radios in the country.
Which is 92.9% of the country s population. They only have a total of 14 radio stations though. One of
the stations is divided up into 7 different stations. (France Basic Data) Along with internet, television
is on the low end of the spectrum too. Not many people in France watch television. In France
television is consumed for an average of 3 hours and 13 minutes a day. They only have 2,662,280
cable subscribers. Which is only about 4.5% of the country s population. Although they do have
satellite television also. They have 4,300,000 satellite subscribers. Which is only about 7.2% of the
country s population. With cable and satellite subscriptions combined that is only 11.7% of the
country s population having some form of television subscription. In fact most of the country does not

Social Control Theory And Recidivism
This was a very in depth research project, particularly for a research essay. For the research provide
was well written and well organized. However, there should be more methodology when it comes to
the subject of recidivism. There were several theories that I have come across when doing my
research; Social control theory is a belief that society has a responsibility to maintain stability, make
sure that rules and responsibilities are easily understood, and provide activities to prevent criminal
activity. A common example occurs when, in poverty stricken areas, children may not have enough
food to eat and are left home alone. In this instance, it is society s obligation to provide activities after
school to prevent children from committing

Chemical Synthesis Essay
The TG DSC MS results show that the gas phases play an important role in the mechanism behind the
sol gel autocombustion process. Different fuel oxidant ratios will promote the formation of different
gas components, which will significantly affect the composition and structure of the final product. To
optimize the fuel oxidant ratio, reagents with different fuel oxidant ratios (0.8:1, 0.9:1, 1:1, 1.1:1, and
1.2:1) were dissolved in deionized water to obtain the sols. The dried gels were then activated by
combustion at a temperature of 300 °C based on the TG DSC MS results. The XRD patterns obtained
for the synthesized CoCrCuNiAl HEAs powders are shown in Figure 1d. Oxide phase was detected in
the combustion product of the gels with a fuel oxidant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(i) different metal oxides are reduced to metals by the reducing gases and then form HEAs as the
building blocks. (ii) different metal oxides form complex multicomponent oxides, followed by in situ
reduction to HEAs by the reducing gases. According to thermodynamics, it is impossible to obtain
metallic aluminum and chromium in the autocombustion process because Al2O3 and Cr2O3 cannot be
reduced to metals by any type of the gases formed in the combustion. Therefore, the synthesis of
CoCrCuNiAl HEAs is through the second route. Recently, (Co,Cu,Mg,Ni,Zn)O high entropy oxides
(HEOs) were synthesized by pyrolyzing nitrates of the individual metals according to the report of
Sarkar et al.25 Similar with HEAs, HEOs containing five or more metals in equiatomic amounts will
be formed because of the high mixing entropy. Hence, the oxide phase in the XRD patterns of the
combustion product with fuel oxidant ratios less than 1:1 is likely to be (Co,Cr,Cu,Ni,Al)O HEO. In
the HEOs, the metallic elements are bonded together and ordered in thermodynamics to form the
structure of A B C D E O (where A, B, C, D, and E denote the metallic elements and O represents
oxygen), as shown in Figure 1f. There is always an intermediate anion separating neighboring cation
lattice sites, and no single component metal oxide phases exist in the (Co,Cr,Cu,Ni,Al)O HEOs, so
that the reduction of Al3+ and Cr3+ can

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. Essay
This case involves the improperly represented earnings by Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. during the
fourth quarter of fiscal year (FY) 2003 and each quarter of FY 2004. The company used improper
accounting methods to avoid lowering its earnings during that period. Krispy Kreme also fraudulently
reported its earnings per share (EPS) throughout that time, which exceeded the previously stated EPS
by 1 percent. An agreement to settle the charges against Krispy Kreme was reached on March 4, 2009
when the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a cease and desist order.
The SEC cited Krispy Kreme for three round trip transactions, which involved the company paying
money to a franchise with an understanding that the franchise would later repay the money in a
planned method. This would allow Krispy Kreme to record extra pretax income in an amount that was
nearly equal to the money that was initially paid to the franchisee. The first transaction resulted in
additional net income of $365,000 after taxes. The second resulted in overstatement of $310,000 after
taxes, while the third resulted in an overstatement of $361,000 after taxes.
Further accounting anomalies were discovered during the testimony of a former sales manager at a
store in Ohio. A regional sales manager instructed that double orders would be sent out on the last
Friday and Saturday of FY 2004 to increase the sales of Krispy Kreme in the fiscal year to meet the
projections of Wall Street. The unneeded doughnuts

Ethical Considerations Of Ethical Decision Making
Including Ethical Considerations in Decision Making (Summary) This sections starts with how
decisions can affect ethical behavior. Most people have unconsciously developed a decision making
process in situations such as a workplace or in their personal life. The steps of decision making are as
follows: Developing a problem statement, identifying alternatives, evaluating and choosing
alternative, implementing decisions, and evaluating results. If any of those steps does not result as a
success, then the decision making process is repeated until it is successful. Analysis This section
focuses on the steps of decision making through the following steps: problem statement, identify
alternatives, evaluate and choose alternative, implement decisions, and evaluating results. It also
focuses on how decision making can be beneficial to people s lives. Development of a problem
statement is most crucial for making a decision. For developing a problem statement, a clear, concise
description of an issue is needed in order to make a decision. The questions of analyzing a problem
statement are as follows: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Status Of Women In The Code Of Hammurabi
In Ancient Mesopotamia, one of the earliest civilizations in history, the status of women was much
lower than that of men. They did not have as many rights and privileges as men did. They were
expected to be submissive to their male guardian, whether it be a father or husband, and carry out their
specific duties. According to the textbook, A woman s place was in the home, and failure to fulfill her
expected duties was grounds for divorce... (Duiker and Spielvogel 14). During this time, Hammurabi,
who came into power and ruled most of Mesopotamia in 1792 B.C.E., developed a code of law known
as the The Code of Hammurabi that described Hammurabi s strict system of justice. Under the code,
men had the ultimate authority over their families and society in general. The punishments for women
who neglected their household duties and the law were severe compared to those for men who broke
the law. The Code of Hammurabi states, If she is not innocent, but leaves her husband, and ruins her
house, neglecting her husband, this woman shall be cast into the water (143). This law is one of the
several laws of the code regarding family, especially the relationship between a man and his wife. In
the law, it says, If a man s wife be surprised...with another man, both shall be tied and thrown into
water... (129). Women were expected to stay faithful to their husbands since they were under their
authority. This is also because the family unit was a key element to the development and growth

what happens in this pilot. Every series needs to have an objective or goal that drives the show. The
pilot should give the audience a clear vision of what future episodes will look like. In the current

this to the X FILES. In that show the protagonist had a strong backstory and motivation driving his

Roman Propaganda Expressed Through Art
Unit 7 Essay
Mark Sprowls
AP art history The Roman rulers from ancient times are well known for their ability to coax their
people into thinking a certain way through the use of convincing pieces of art. The Roman Empire
was very troubled and its emperors are infamous for such things as lavish spending, unnecessary war,
and even the killing of family members, and this begs the question: how were there so few large scale
revolts of the Roman populous? The answer is the use of propaganda in popular Roman culture. The
Roman Empire used propaganda for political purposes by incorporating Roman family values,
victorious war scenes, and general Roman successes into their artworks. Adding family values to art
that depicted a Roman ruler s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the Arch of Constantine a plethora of works depicting the triumphs of his predecessors can be
seen, which he uses to his advantage, as if he was proposing the idea that he was as great as the other
emperors. In fact, he even goes as far to replace the heads of the other emperors on the arch with his
own like he was responsible for the many good deeds that they had done. One example of this is a
relief where Hadrian is sacrificing an animal to Apollo and then hunting boar, except Hadrian s face is
replaced by Constantine s. This stealing of works was probably a way to gain favor with the populous
for himself as well as the next ruling emperor. All in all these two monuments to their respective
patrons were highly effective pieces of propaganda that may have been responsible for a less
rebellious empire. To look back upon the propaganda used by the Roman Empire, it seems particularly
ingenious that they accomplished such a feat. To keep an empire with that many problems, problems
that could undermine even the greatest leaders, relatively stable is astonishing. In conclusion, through
propaganda in art that depicted victorious war campaigns, successful emperors and a halcyon family
life the Rulers of ancient Rome were able to extend their respective time in power as well as

Pros And Cons Of Prisons In Prison
Convicted criminals are incarcerated to serve their sentences in various prisons. Most of the prisons
have all type of routines adhered to by the people who are within their environment. Prisons are
classified according to the level of security available and type of prisoners they accommodate. Prisons
having prisoners of lowest risk levels and serving shorter sentences are referred to as minimum
security prisons. Medium security prisons accommodate prisoners of slightly higher security risks
such as those who are violent. Maximum security prisons have most violent and those of highest
security threats. Multi use prisons have prisoners of different security classifications. Specialty prisons
have prisoners with special needs such as mental illness, disability or HIV/AIDS.
Correctinal officers serving at the prison premises have the best first hand informatin. With this
privilage, I managed to interview an officer from the innamate prison center. The information
collected was correlated to works by other authors who have reviewed the prison institutional
correction. Therefore, further clarification on this correction is elaborated in this paper. The prison life
cycle, events, terminations aims and achievements of prison life are hereby contained.
Arrival at prison After a long conversation with a correctional officer, I found out that once new
prisoners arrive, they undergo several interviews, and interrogations. They are informed about various
prison rules, regulations and procedures which are supposed to be followed and must be adhered to,
and the consequences of breaking them. He further explained that the new prisoners are informed
about their rights and privileges. The prisoners are informed of various educational courses and
training available in prison. After the brief introduction to prison, they are then told the reason for their
imprisonment. Each of them is assigned a unique number for identification. The correctional officer
elaborated that prisoners who might be having any possessions are usually needed to hand them over
to the authorities where they are safely kept until they are released. Also, upon arrival at the prison,

The Federal Reserve Act, The U.s. Financial System
Prior to the institution of the Federal Reserve Act, the U.S. financial system s basic structure was
determined by the National Banking Acts of 1863, 1864, and 1865 (Broz, 1999). The purpose of the
legislation was to provide a uniform national currency and to raise revenue for the federal government
during wartime (Broz, 1999). While effective in its main purposes, it was flawed in the fact that the
increase of available currency had little to no effect on consumer demand which led to large seasonal
swings in interest rates and banking panics (Friedman Schwartz, 168 169). In an attempt to rectify the
shortcomings of the National Banking System, government turned to the New York Clearinghouse
Association, purportedly known as the first central bank. Originally responsible for the settlement of
payments between financial institutions, it was chosen because it was the only source at the time that
had the ability to provide funds during high demand periods through a discount window or an open
market operation (Broz, 1999). In the end, it failed to maintain an adequate amount of liquid reserves
to counteract the monetary crisis s that ensued during the agricultural harvest cycles, when currency
demands accelerated. In response to the most detrimental Panics of 1873, 1893, and 1907, a faction of
wealthy bankers created the concept of The Federal Reserve, an entity that would serve as the central
banking system. After prior failed attempts to enact the FRB in to law, wealthy

Writing Technique And Sentence Structure
MWP4 Final
Writing is a tool used in many subjects, and it has a great deal of importance in our society. In this
article written by Fish, the reader is given his perspective on what a writing course should encompass.
Fish begins the article by pointing out the problem with english composition classes today. On the first
page he mentions how one day ,while grading papers, he noticed that his graduate students did not
write clean proper sentences. Fish took it upon himself to find out why students lack simple writing
skills and how english composition professors can fix it? After finding the answers to his questions
Fish came to the conclusion that the only way to teach writing is by focusing on technique and
sentence structure. He believes that once a student masters the skills it takes to write then they can
write successfully. Writing is used daily and it is important that we master the ability. Fish has a good
argument that supports the focus on writing technique, but he misses the importance of other writing
factors such as evidence, audience, and rhetoric.
Fish is no amauetur when it comes to writing or teaching writing. In the second part of the article he

John F. Kennedy s Civil Rights Speech
Does everyone deserve civil rights? John F. Kennedy believed so during the Civil Rights Movement.
The Civil Right Movement began around 1950 and ended around 1970. A few of the major leaders
were Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and John F. Kennedy. The purpose of the Civil Rights
Movement was to end discrimination and prejudice among whites and blacks. Many African
Americans did not have the same rights as Caucasians mainly due to their skin being a different color.
A famous speech delivered by John F. Kennedy was The Nation Faces a Moral Crisis Regarding Race
on June 11, 1963 at Washington D.C.. A major theme of John F. Kennedy s speech was racism. In The
Nation Faces a Moral Crisis in Regard to Race , John F. Kennedy inspires his intended audience
during the Civil Rights Movement by using the rhetorical devices of tone and repetition. Kennedy
advocates greater civil rights for African Americans. Because of increasing violence and chaos
between whites and blacks, Kennedy felt the need to address the nation concerning racism. In John F.
Kennedy s speech, The Nation Faces a Moral Crisis in Regard to Race, Kennedy hoped his audience
would consider and support equal rights for all men I hope that every American, regardless of where
he lives, will stop and examine his conscience about this and other related incidents [...] This nation
was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds [...] It was founded on the principle that all
men are created equal, and that the rights

Terrorism And Terrorism
When a White man commits a terror act, why is that they are never called terrorist? Why does the
word terrorist only implied to Muslims? What promotes the idea of terrorist? Is terrorism only
implying to someone who commits an act of terror? Or Is it based on being a Muslim or brown, rather
than an act? After 9/11, Muslims were attacked for their religion, up till now according to Lydia O
Connor . Muslims have faced discrimination and hate on the religion because others see Islam as a
threat and a way to promote violence. This is also known as Islamophobia . Muslims are specifically
targeted because of how the media such as Fox News implies them as terrorists . FOX News is a one
of the largest channel in all cable and is a mainstream media in America, where millions of viewers as
exposed to how they reverses the logic of the word terrorist and gives a new meaning that Muslims or
brown are terrorist. The lack of accountability of Fox News holds and presents that Muslims or brown
are terrorist. Nearly sixteen years later, Islamophobia has not improved, the word terrorist became a
word where it s based on perceptions and judgments on appearance. Fox News usage of the word
shows that it is not someone who commits an act of terror, but is given an identity to Muslims and
implied them as terrorist. The word terrorist is only used towards Muslims in Fox news. The term
terrorism has become politicized that the word terrorist is seen as someone who is Muslim or brown.

Pros And Cons Of Human Genetic Modification
Human genetic modification is that direct manipulation of the genome using molecular engineering
techniques. Also known as gene editing and can be implied in two different ways, somatic and
germline modification. Somatic ads, cuts or changes the genes in some of the cells of an existing
person. While germline genetic modification changes the genes in embryos most known as gene
editing for reproduction. These alterations would appear in every cell of the mother who developed the
embryo and although it has not be tried in humans, it will soon be. Human germline modification is
prohibited in more than 40 countries as it can be dangerous. Many people do not see the danger

The parents choice of wanting a perfect baby can result in even death. A laboratory on the Harvard
Medical School Campus tested germline genetic modification on monkeys which is a similar species
to the humans, like a person, a monkey has two copies of most genes (one from each parent). This
students injected the CRISPR chemicals into a fertilized egg known as Zygote. As stated in MIT
Technology, only about half of embryos will lead to live births, and those that do, many could contain
a mixture of cells with edited DNA and without. If one adds up the odds, one d need to edit 20
embryos to get a live monkey with the version one desires. In other words, to get the perfect blue eyes,
blonde pretty girl, one would have to go through many engineering techniques knowing the result will
most likely be unsuccessful and even endangering oneself by going through the alteration embryo

1992 Presidential Election Campaign Analysis
During his acceptance speech in 1988, Republican Vice President, George H. W. Bush, said, read my
lips, no new taxes (Bush as cited by Matthews, 2004). Unfortunately, in the wake of financial pressure
President Bush in 1990 implemented a new tax on the American people. The failure to honor this
declaration brought into question President Bush s credibility and trust, and ultimately followed him to
the 1992 Presidential Election (Jamieson, 1996). However minimal the phrase, the impact of his
trustworthiness plagued Bush to the ballot box costing him reelection. The presence of credibility,
likability, and charisma in a political candidate are precious characteristics needed in the electoral
process.
These characteristics have the power to move voters in an electoral process and ignite action

Voter will perceive the candidate s charisma through the sacrifice of the candidates personal goals for
the greater goals of the group. This results in higher identification and motivation (Conger, Kanungo,

constituents emotions to inspire and ignite action in voters. The invoking of emotions during Barack

Motivations In Antigone By Sophocles
Ever wondered how far your motivations could take you? Antigone, a famous play written by
Sophocles, introduces the audience to various characters who push the limits with their motivations,
despite the consequences. We, the audience, are shown two major characters, a determined woman,
Antigone, who goes to extremes for her family, and Creon, a stubborn king who believes in protecting
his city Thebes. Creon creates a rule that both Antigone s brothers, Polyneices and Eteocles must both
alternately fulfill the title of king of Thebes, and ends in Polyneices death because of a battle that
arose between the brothers which resulted in a demand for Polyneices to remain unburied by Creon,
which influenced Antigone s determination to give Polyneices a proper burial, resulting in the death of
Antigone and Creon s family members. I believe Creon is the tragic hero because although he was
doing what he thought was right to defend the people of Thebes and fulfill his duty as a ruler, he
resulted in losing his loved ones and ending up alone. Creon becomes the king of Thebes, and because
of this, he wants to protect his people. Despite his desire to remain loyal to his citizens, Creon doesn t
take advice or input from anyone. Creon puts himself above everyone, including the gods, taking
advantage of his title. Creon states, We must obey those whom the city has ordained to be its leaders.
We should obey them, unquestioningly, in all things, minor or great, those we agree with

Feature Integration Theory Essay
The Feature Integration Theory (Treisman Gelade, 1980) links pre attention and attention together and
tries to explain why pop out effects occur and how conjunction searches work. It states that features of
an object (for example, colour and texture) are pre attentionally coded in parallel, which explains why
the pop out effect exists. The object s features are then combined through attention to form the whole
object, which is why conjunction searches take longer to complete as you have to look for a number of
features that combine together to make what you are looking for. Support for the Feature Integration
Theory comes from Bravo Nakayama (1992) who found that as the number of distractor items

They presented shapes to their participants very quickly, almost so they could not see them and then
asked which of three stimuli were presented to them. Many participants reported not seeing anything
but their rate of correct answers was above chance level. This implies that the stimuli were processed
pre attentionally as the participants had no explicit recollection of seeing the stimuli and therefore did
not pay attention to it. However, a criticism of this study is that it was conducted 80 years ago, which
would mean that their equipment is not to the same standard as modern studies. This could have led to
methodological problems including whether they presented each stimulus for the same length of time
in every condition and to every participant. Further support for the pre attentional approach of object
recognition comes from Sperling (1960). They presented 12 letters (4x3 grid) for a short period of
time and asked participants to recall as many as possible. The average response was 4 5 correct letters.
However, when participants associated a line of letters with a tone (high, medium or low) and were
then asked to recall the letters from either of those lines, they were largely able to remember all of the
letters from that row implying that they had the ability to recall around 9 of the letters in total. This
suggests that the letters were processed pre attentionally as the participants were unaware that they
had remembered them. A criticism of this study is that it focuses on memory more than

PEDS Should Not Belong In Professional Sports

most unfair advantage in sports such as Increased leanness and muscle definition, Increased muscle

think PEDS do not belong in professional sports. The nationals football leagues (NFL) policy on
PEDS isn t as strict as people think. There is only six random tests a year and to schedule. The first

The Story Of Bread And Roses
The story of Bread and roses is another classic example of working class people being exploited by
the company and management whom they work for. After watching the movie, I realized that, the
movie itself exemplify various conceptual theories proposed by sociologist Karl Marx. After analyzing
Bread and Roses through these various conceptual lenses, I have found that these concepts and
theories proposed by Marx best explain different parts of Bread and Roses. His production theory in
Capitalism, The Exploitation of Surplus Value, and The Revolution of the Proletarians. These chosen
concepts and theories do not fully explain the movie by themselves, but fit perfectly together in
various parts throughout the movie. Before I can go on to explain these concepts and how they tie into
Bread and Roses, I feel that a brief summary of the movie is necessary. Bread and Roses is a fictional
story about the exploitation of janitor workers by the cleaning company Angel. More specifically, the
story revolves around Maya, a Mexican immigrant. Maya, when the story begins, just had recently
crossed the border into the United States. Once Maya linked up with her sister Rosa, Rosa pulled some
strings so Maya can work as a janitor with her in a high rise building. While acclimating to her new
job, she noticed the poor treatment and lack of care given to her and fellow co workers such as low
hourly wages ($5.75), no health care, and bad management by supervisor Perez .With the help from a

Postmodernism As A Fairy Tale
Postmodernist thought has bought with it an interrogation of narrative strategies and ways of looking
at myths, history and even fairytales. Postmodernism, as Hutcheon suggests works through parody to
both legitimize and subvert that which it parodies.1 Postmodernism does not just offer to shed light on
new critical capacities but also to rethink history and to signal present representations from past ones.
Postmodern fairytale narratives thus offer, if not a counter mandate, often a reading into the classic
fairytale. These revisits offer a space, especially for women to question and redefine gender roles. The
rewritings offer images of woman, an underpinning of the Other, normalised as part of culture. Since
they rhetorically and literally incorporate that which they aim to contest 2 modernism, history, the
humanistic subject, other narrative texts and genre they often sublate as complicated metaphors of
human situation. Postmodern fairytales seek to understand the fairytale , not as children s literature but
within the broader context of folklore and literary studies. Cristina Bacchilega in her seminal work
Postmodern Fairy Tales that focuses on the narrative strategies through which women are portrayed in
four classic stories: Snow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Apple Cell Phones
The Major Event, IPhone Boom! And the Launch of Android In 2007, the remote business took a
dramatic turn. While aficionados and non endeavor clients had discovered different uses for their cell
phones than email and work, the primary capacity of such gadgets was keeping representatives inside
of scope and joined far from the work area. Cell phones were principally utilized for correspondence
and light Web searching on the train. That was all set to change when Apple declared the iPhone in
January 2007 and propelled it months after the fact in June. Apple s concept of the cell phone joined
intense sight and sound capacities with the same email and Web searching components as all different
cell phones already had. It had a huge shading showcase with a capacitive digitizer, and its client
interface was at long last finger friendly. Furthermore, dissimilar to telephones before it, the iPhone
had one and only button all over the Home button and three around its edges, two for volume up/down
and one for force/standby. Apple s versatile working framework, iOS, was still exceptionally
fundamental at the time, however it was the first look into the new, cutting edge portable cell phone
working frameworks we know and love to. This phone release started a transformation of the
perception of cellular and mobile communication, which is maybe best outlined by a quote ascribed to
Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc., that the phone was not just a communication tool but a way of

How Is Music Formed
When listening to music do you ever wonder how it was formed? We do not think about that. So how
is music formed? Music is formed when a sound is produced when something vibrates. The vibrating
body causes the medium around it to vibrate. With the vibrations moving in the air they are called
traveling longitudinal waves. Longitudinal waves allow us to hear. By allowing us to hear, it allows
high and low pressure to form called compression and rarefaction. What behaviors do air vibrations
cause? They cause a Standing wave. A standing wave is the result of the wave reflecting off the end of
the tube and interfering with itself. Vibration inside a tube forms a standing wave. When sound is
produced in an instrument by blowing into it, allows

  • 2. Free Trade In America Problem: Working class Americans experience difficulties in finding work as labor intensive jobs are moved abroad. At the same time free trade is beneficial for the global economy as a whole. Here we can see a clash in interests as the interests of those in developing countries are protected as well by the WTO and free trade tends to be beneficial for the economy as a whole. However, the problem is that 20% of the prime male working population between the ages of 25 54 are unemployed and this number is around 35% of those who don t have a high school diploma. For marginalized groups such as African American males the teen unemployment is over 40% and that of young black men from the ages of 16 24 is over 30%. Courses of action: Companies can be encouraged to locate their production processes in the US by implementing subsidies. In Europe for instance, it has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As tariffs would disadvantage free international trade it is important to focus on how much is possible regarding the WTO restrictions on barriers and tariffs. The US might follow the course that Western European nations follow in decreasing the unemployment rate. Countries such as Germany have been using strategies such as job sharing and short time work to encourage employers to cut the hours instead of laying off their employees. This method has never been implemented in the US and could be quite successful. Training is another factor that could reduce the unemployment rate of low skilled workers. Training, however, is mostly offered by employers and not by the government. Often training is also offered to the most skilled and educated workers opposed to low skilled workers. Furthermore, the amount of money spent on training by the government only entails 0,4% of the American GDP, whereas, it is more than 10 times as high for countries such as Denmark, Germany and the ... Compare And Contrast The New Deal And The Jacksonian Era A reform movement is a type of social movement that aims to make a gradual change in certain aspects of society, rather than rapid or fundamental changes. Reforms targeted the causes of the depression and sought to prevent a crisis like it from happening again. By financially rebuilding the U.S. while ensuring not to repeat history. The New Deal period and the Jacksonian Era are periods that introduced many reforms during those times. The New Deal was a series of federal programs, public work projects, financial reforms and regulations enacted in the United States during the 1930s, by the response to the Great Depression. • 4. Pulp Fiction Analysis Tarantino s Depiction of Violence Quentin Tarantino is well known and often criticized for his depiction of violence in his films. Although at times graphic, Tarantino s violence holds a purpose. This paper will look at two films, Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, and their depiction of violence and the aesthetics used. It will also look at classic film conventions and ultraviolence aesthetics used by Tarantino. Finally, the paper will determine what aesthetics Tarantino carries over in each film. Quentin Tarantino s depiction of violence in Pulp Fiction becomes bloodier and more graphic as the film continues. Early in the film, Martellus shoots two people, neither of which show any blood or even a gunshot wound. Tarantino uses a classic film convention where the victim of the gunshot clutches the spot where they were shot, covering what in real life would be a gunshot wound. He employs another classic film convention later when Mia is stabbed in the heart with the adrenaline shot. Instead of showing the violent act, Tarantino shows Mia s reaction to being stabbed in the heart. In the next segment of the film, Butch shoots Vincent with a small machine gun. It riddles Vincent s body with bullet holes and is the first time the clutch technique isn t used. Vincent s body is shown covered in blood around the abdomen in a very bloody bathroom. This marks the transition in Pulp Fiction from a more classical style of violence to contemporary ultraviolence. From now on in the film, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Example Of A Cultural Autobiography Example There is nothing quite like a Cultural Autobiography to make you reexamine your life and upbringing. I was born into a normal Jamaican family, ten fingers ten toes was all that was needed back then. I was the youngest of two sisters and one brother. My parents were unmarried and my sibling, who I grew up with and I shared different fathers. As a family we never discussed family members outside our immediate families and with only half siblings the idea of we figured our distant relatives were either family or complete strangers. My earliest memory has always been of me and my older brother getting into trouble and our sisters scolding us. The oldest was 8 years older than me and she took the role of our guardian due to our parent s careers. My father was a Police Officer and my mother was a Certified Nurse Assistant both hard working and devoted Christians. This is in line with the majority of citizens in Jamaica. My story begins with my father, all throughout my childhood he has always been strict and distant. Similar to me, he was raised the youngest among his four siblings albeit in the countryside of Jamaica. He studied the bible and at one point started his academic journey in hopes of becoming a pastor. Somewhere along his journey he decided to forgo that desire and chose to become an officer of the law instead. His early life was marked with humble stories of walking several miles barefooted to go to school in order become more educated. Studying and working hard in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, there should be more methodology when it comes to the subject of recidivism. There were several theories that I have come across when doing my research; Social control theory is a belief that society has a responsibility to maintain stability, make sure that rules and responsibilities are easily understood, and provide activities to prevent criminal activity. A common example occurs when, in poverty stricken areas, children may not have enough food to eat and are left home alone. • 10. Chemical Synthesis Essay The TG DSC MS results show that the gas phases play an important role in the mechanism behind the sol gel autocombustion process. Different fuel oxidant ratios will promote the formation of different gas components, which will significantly affect the composition and structure of the final product. To optimize the fuel oxidant ratio, reagents with different fuel oxidant ratios (0.8:1, 0.9:1, 1:1, 1.1:1, and 1.2:1) were dissolved in deionized water to obtain the sols. The dried gels were then activated by combustion at a temperature of 300 °C based on the TG DSC MS results. The XRD patterns obtained for the synthesized CoCrCuNiAl HEAs powders are shown in Figure 1d. Oxide phase was detected in the combustion product of the gels with a fuel oxidant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (i) different metal oxides are reduced to metals by the reducing gases and then form HEAs as the building blocks. (ii) different metal oxides form complex multicomponent oxides, followed by in situ reduction to HEAs by the reducing gases. According to thermodynamics, it is impossible to obtain metallic aluminum and chromium in the autocombustion process because Al2O3 and Cr2O3 cannot be reduced to metals by any type of the gases formed in the combustion. Therefore, the synthesis of CoCrCuNiAl HEAs is through the second route. Recently, (Co,Cu,Mg,Ni,Zn)O high entropy oxides (HEOs) were synthesized by pyrolyzing nitrates of the individual metals according to the report of Sarkar et al.25 Similar with HEAs, HEOs containing five or more metals in equiatomic amounts will be formed because of the high mixing entropy. Hence, the oxide phase in the XRD patterns of the combustion product with fuel oxidant ratios less than 1:1 is likely to be (Co,Cr,Cu,Ni,Al)O HEO. In the HEOs, the metallic elements are bonded together and ordered in thermodynamics to form the structure of A B C D E O (where A, B, C, D, and E denote the metallic elements and O represents oxygen), as shown in Figure 1f. There is always an intermediate anion separating neighboring cation lattice sites, and no single component metal oxide phases exist in the (Co,Cr,Cu,Ni,Al)O HEOs, so that the reduction of Al3+ and Cr3+ can ... • 12. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. Essay This case involves the improperly represented earnings by Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. during the fourth quarter of fiscal year (FY) 2003 and each quarter of FY 2004. The company used improper accounting methods to avoid lowering its earnings during that period. Krispy Kreme also fraudulently reported its earnings per share (EPS) throughout that time, which exceeded the previously stated EPS by 1 percent. An agreement to settle the charges against Krispy Kreme was reached on March 4, 2009 when the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a cease and desist order. The SEC cited Krispy Kreme for three round trip transactions, which involved the company paying money to a franchise with an understanding that the franchise would later repay the money in a planned method. This would allow Krispy Kreme to record extra pretax income in an amount that was nearly equal to the money that was initially paid to the franchisee. The first transaction resulted in additional net income of $365,000 after taxes. The second resulted in overstatement of $310,000 after taxes, while the third resulted in an overstatement of $361,000 after taxes. Further accounting anomalies were discovered during the testimony of a former sales manager at a store in Ohio. A regional sales manager instructed that double orders would be sent out on the last Friday and Saturday of FY 2004 to increase the sales of Krispy Kreme in the fiscal year to meet the projections of Wall Street. They did not have as many rights and privileges as men did. They were expected to be submissive to their male guardian, whether it be a father or husband, and carry out their specific duties. According to the textbook, A woman s place was in the home, and failure to fulfill her expected duties was grounds for divorce... (Duiker and Spielvogel 14). During this time, Hammurabi, who came into power and ruled most of Mesopotamia in 1792 B.C.E., developed a code of law known as the The Code of Hammurabi that described Hammurabi s strict system of justice. Under the code, men had the ultimate authority over their families and society in general. The punishments for women who neglected their household duties and the law were severe compared to those for men who broke the law. The Code of Hammurabi states, If she is not innocent, but leaves her husband, and ruins her house, neglecting her husband, this woman shall be cast into the water (143). This law is one of the several laws of the code regarding family, especially the relationship between a man and his wife. In the law, it says, If a man s wife be surprised...with another man, both shall be tied and thrown into water... (129). Women were expected to stay faithful to their husbands since they were under their authority. This is also because the family unit was a key element to the development and growth ... • 19. Roman Propaganda Expressed Through Art Unit 7 Essay Mark Sprowls AP art history The Roman rulers from ancient times are well known for their ability to coax their people into thinking a certain way through the use of convincing pieces of art. The Roman Empire was very troubled and its emperors are infamous for such things as lavish spending, unnecessary war, and even the killing of family members, and this begs the question: how were there so few large scale revolts of the Roman populous? The answer is the use of propaganda in popular Roman culture. The Roman Empire used propaganda for political purposes by incorporating Roman family values, victorious war scenes, and general Roman successes into their artworks. Adding family values to art that depicted a Roman ruler s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the Arch of Constantine a plethora of works depicting the triumphs of his predecessors can be seen, which he uses to his advantage, as if he was proposing the idea that he was as great as the other emperors. In fact, he even goes as far to replace the heads of the other emperors on the arch with his own like he was responsible for the many good deeds that they had done. One example of this is a relief where Hadrian is sacrificing an animal to Apollo and then hunting boar, except Hadrian s face is replaced by Constantine s. This stealing of works was probably a way to gain favor with the populous for himself as well as the next ruling emperor. All in all these two monuments to their respective patrons were highly effective pieces of propaganda that may have been responsible for a less rebellious empire. To look back upon the propaganda used by the Roman Empire, it seems particularly ingenious that they accomplished such a feat. To keep an empire with that many problems, problems that could undermine even the greatest leaders, relatively stable is astonishing. In conclusion, through propaganda in art that depicted victorious war campaigns, successful emperors and a halcyon family life the Rulers of ancient Rome were able to extend their respective time in power as well as increasing their already great ... Financial System Prior to the institution of the Federal Reserve Act, the U.S. financial system s basic structure was determined by the National Banking Acts of 1863, 1864, and 1865 (Broz, 1999). The purpose of the legislation was to provide a uniform national currency and to raise revenue for the federal government during wartime (Broz, 1999). While effective in its main purposes, it was flawed in the fact that the increase of available currency had little to no effect on consumer demand which led to large seasonal swings in interest rates and banking panics (Friedman Schwartz, 168 169). In an attempt to rectify the shortcomings of the National Banking System, government turned to the New York Clearinghouse Association, purportedly known as the first central bank. Originally responsible for the settlement of payments between financial institutions, it was chosen because it was the only source at the time that had the ability to provide funds during high demand periods through a discount window or an open market operation (Broz, 1999). In the end, it failed to maintain an adequate amount of liquid reserves to counteract the monetary crisis s that ensued during the agricultural harvest cycles, when currency demands accelerated. In response to the most detrimental Panics of 1873, 1893, and 1907, a faction of wealthy bankers created the concept of The Federal Reserve, an entity that would serve as the central banking system. In this article written by Fish, the reader is given his perspective on what a writing course should encompass. Fish begins the article by pointing out the problem with english composition classes today. On the first page he mentions how one day ,while grading papers, he noticed that his graduate students did not write clean proper sentences. Fish took it upon himself to find out why students lack simple writing skills and how english composition professors can fix it? After finding the answers to his questions Fish came to the conclusion that the only way to teach writing is by focusing on technique and sentence structure. He believes that once a student masters the skills it takes to write then they can write successfully. Writing is used daily and it is important that we master the ability. Fish has a good argument that supports the focus on writing technique, but he misses the importance of other writing factors such as evidence, audience, and rhetoric. Fish is no amauetur when it comes to writing or teaching writing. In the second part of the article he gives the reader a resume showing off his full writing career. It is clear that he puts high importance on writing. While he searched for a better way to teach students how to write, he came to the realization that focusing on writing for the sole purpose of writing is the best way to improve. Bush, said, read my lips, no new taxes (Bush as cited by Matthews, 2004). Unfortunately, in the wake of financial pressure President Bush in 1990 implemented a new tax on the American people. The failure to honor this declaration brought into question President Bush s credibility and trust, and ultimately followed him to the 1992 Presidential Election (Jamieson, 1996). However minimal the phrase, the impact of his trustworthiness plagued Bush to the ballot box costing him reelection. • 27. Motivations In Antigone By Sophocles Ever wondered how far your motivations could take you? Antigone, a famous play written by Sophocles, introduces the audience to various characters who push the limits with their motivations, despite the consequences. We, the audience, are shown two major characters, a determined woman, Antigone, who goes to extremes for her family, and Creon, a stubborn king who believes in protecting his city Thebes. Creon creates a rule that both Antigone s brothers, Polyneices and Eteocles must both alternately fulfill the title of king of Thebes, and ends in Polyneices death because of a battle that arose between the brothers which resulted in a demand for Polyneices to remain unburied by Creon, which influenced Antigone s determination to give Polyneices a proper burial, resulting in the death of Antigone and Creon s family members. I believe Creon is the tragic hero because although he was doing what he thought was right to defend the people of Thebes and fulfill his duty as a ruler, he resulted in losing his loved ones and ending up alone. Creon becomes the king of Thebes, and because of this, he wants to protect his people. Despite his desire to remain loyal to his citizens, Creon doesn t take advice or input from anyone. • 29. Feature Integration Theory Essay The Feature Integration Theory (Treisman Gelade, 1980) links pre attention and attention together and tries to explain why pop out effects occur and how conjunction searches work. It states that features of an object (for example, colour and texture) are pre attentionally coded in parallel, which explains why the pop out effect exists. The object s features are then combined through attention to form the whole object, which is why conjunction searches take longer to complete as you have to look for a number of features that combine together to make what you are looking for. Support for the Feature Integration Theory comes from Bravo Nakayama (1992) who found that as the number of distractor items increased in a visual search task, reaction ... Many participants reported not seeing anything but their rate of correct answers was above chance level. However, a criticism of this study is that it was conducted 80 years ago, which would mean that their equipment is not to the same standard as modern studies. This could have led to methodological problems including whether they presented each stimulus for the same length of time in every condition and to every participant. Further support for the pre attentional approach of object recognition comes from Sperling (1960). They presented 12 letters (4x3 grid) for a short period of time and asked participants to recall as many as possible. The average response was 4 5 correct letters. However, when participants associated a line of letters with a tone (high, medium or low) and were then asked to recall the letters from either of those lines, they were largely able to remember all of the letters from that row implying that they had the ability to recall around 9 of the letters in total.
