Racial Bias From The Console

Racial Bias from the Console
Kathy Vo
A10694259 Introduction
Researchers regularly research the media s influence on race perception, but rarely examine one
specific form: video games. Unlike formats such as television and newspapers, video games provide
an interactive platform for users to live in an alternative world and perform acts considered socially
wrong in real societies (Burgess et al). This form of virtual simulation can reinforce how one
perceives stereotypes at higher rates. Not only do the majority of these games feature white
protagonists, but also task them to defeat ethnically ambiguous enemies. Currently, the most popular
genre is shooter games set in the Middle East, where the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Racial bias may also influence who we choose to bond with. Another study suggest we show empathy
bias to in group members when viewing clips of people being poked with a big needle, indicated
through activation of the anterior cingulate cortex (Xu et al).
Previous studies examining the relationship between video games and race perception mainly
measured racial bias through Implicit Association Tests (Bosman). Not only can these tests be
subjective, but participants may fix their answers in attempts to deny their identity as racist. For my
research, I aim to link neuronal activity of implicit racism into manifested behavior. I hypothesize that
playing video games with negative racial stereotypes will produce stronger implicit thoughts and
explicit behavior of racism than other media formats.
Method
Participants for this study will be recruited from college students looking for extra credit. We will
specifically request for participants with minimal to no video game experience for a more accurate
reading on the effects of video games on race perception. The subjects will be informed that the
experiment will research attention and memory. For this study, we will focus on racial bias against
Middle Easterns, a group often linked to terrorism due to recent military activities. Using fMRI, the
first task will measure initial activation of the amygdala (fear) and anterior cingulate cortex (empathy).

Serious Crimes in the Uniform Crime Report
The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) is consisted of two parts, part one and part two. Part one crimes are
the eight most serious offenses, which is murder, rape, assault, robbery, burglary, arson, larceny, and
motor vehicle theft. Part two crimes are all other crimes except the ones in part one. They also include
drug offenses, sex crimes, and vandalism. The UCR is a large database that stores all the information
of the crimes that are reported and arrests made each year in the USA. The method used to get the
information to the FBI is complex. Each month a law enforcement agencies report the count of part
one crimes. The advantage of UCR is that people can see what kinds of crimes happen in a specific
area. The disadvantage of UCR is that many of the serious crimes are not reported because the victims
think that the crime is unimportant, they don t trust the police, or involved in something illegal during
the time of the crime.
The National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) is also consisted of two parts but includes
offenses such as runaways, vagrancy, embezzlement, drug offenses and bribery. The NIBRS gives you
a brief account of each incident and arrests; it includes the incident, victim, and the offender s
information. The advantage of NIBRS is that it has a broader development on crimes and is more
accurate then the UCR. The disadvantage is that only twenty states have this crime report system that
s less then half of the US.

Porsche And Volkswagen Group Case Study
Unit 4 Team Exercise
The invention of automobiles had been dated long back in history. From that day till now, it had not
only made our lives easier but also simpler. From times back then till now many big automobile
companies had came into existence, some of them were successful and some were not, thus going out
of market and competition. Among them, Porsche and Volkswagen Group(VW) have emerged as one
of the world leaders in automobile industry. Through years of hardwork and sheer use of technology
and engineering developments, both of these companies have carved a name for themselves in their
respective markets. But sometimes, bad management and several areas of conflict arise between two
companies that can lead to its downfall. In this case too the CEO of Porsche, just wanted to administer
each and everything according to his own ways and rules, but on the other hand the CEO of
Volkswagen, even after facing huge loses wanted to continue on with his strategy because he was
quite confident about his strategy and clearly had a broader outlook of the scenario. Therefore, due to
having different mindsets, there was a conflict between the ideas of two which led to the decline of
one of them. These conflicts can be summed up in the following couple of questions:
1. Identify and discuss the sources of conflict between Porsche and Volkswagen executives.
Well, throughout this case there was a sense of internal war between the executives of two of the
world s largest automobile companies. Wiedeking, the CEO of Porsche, can be seen as a dominating
personality throughout this case. Wiedeking was famous for his efficient production and astute
marketing, which turned Porsche into world s most profitable car company. Therefore, keeping this
same attitude in mind, he wanted to make some major changes in the Volkswagen group(VW) because
he was aiming to achieve something big. He wanted to remove inefficient operations and also insisted
on shutting down the production lines of some cars like Phaeton and Buggati , which according to him
were not highly profitable and were a commercial failure. On the other hand, Ferdinand Piech, the
CEO of Volkswagen group, had something else in his mind. Unlike Wiedeking, who only focused

Equipment Review of the Vertec and Bertec
Equipment Review
The equipment in this study includes a Vertec vertical jump measuring system (Figure 1) and a Bertec
force plate (Figure 2). The Vertec vertical jump measuring system measures individuals vertical jump
capabilities in inches. The Bertec force plate measures the ground reaction forces in newtons produced
when an individual performs a jump and when they land following a jump. The Vertec vertical jump
measuring system is constructed out of a steel frame and has horizontal vanes that rotate when the
hand touches them. The vanes spaced half inch between and the height of the vanes is adjustable from
6 feet to 12 feet tall. The Vertec vertical jump measuring system is considered the gold standard for
measuring vertical jump height and its measurements have been found reliable.1 The Bertec force
plate is a much more complicated device. It uses strain gauges to measure the force applied to the
force plate. The force applied to the plate by the subject will be equal to the forces the plate applies to
the subject as determined by Newton s third law. When the strain gauge is compressed the resistance
of the current running through the gauge decreases however when the strain gauge is placed under
tension the resistance of the current traveling through it increases. The Bertec force plate measures
forces applied to the device in the x, y and z axis using strain gauges. The strain gauges produce
signals when force is applied to the force plate surface, which are

The Importance Of Seeing The Philadelphia Orchestra...
Last year I had the privilege of seeing the Philadelphia Orchestra perform Gustav Holst s: The Planets
Suite. The piece as a whole is one that pulls the strings of your heart from the first pound to the last
mystic moment of silence. It has been a year since I heard the orchestral piece in full, and ever since, I
have been awaiting to get an opportunity like that again. It is unfortunately a rare occurance in my
generation to feel so strongly about a piece of art. The world is at our fingertips, and yet we have no
urge to explore it.
According to Gustav, the Planets were a depiction of life and the many stages of its progression. As a
young adult and musician this suite inspired a new way of seeing, feeling, and hearing life. Thierry
Fischer, a music director at Utah Symphony wrote, Holst denied that the suite has any connection to
the classical Zodiac other than the names and traits of the personified planets, that connection by itself
is enough for the music to conjure strong images of the mythological deities associated with each.
Mars, the bringer of war, begins with five quiet yet dominant beats in a reverberating 5/4 rhythm. As
the movement continues we hear the grinding minor chords, which leaves the ear unsettled. Mars is
said to be an obvious illustration of war, the depressing and frightening steady march of soldiers as
they walk toward the unknown. Throughout the entire movement there is no clear harmonic release,
the chromaticism just sways back and forth.

The Brain Regions
The Brain Regions and How It Works: The brain made up of highly specialized cells called neurons,
which conduct messages to other neurons of the body. Moreover, whatsoever we do based on how our
neurons communicate with each other. These neurons produce chemical signals (known as
neurotransmitters) and electrical impulses that carry messages across diverse parts of the brain and
within the brain and other parts of the body by crossing synapses and binding to receptors on the
dendrites of the receiving neuron. When the process does not work well, or the electrical signals do
not function properly, they cause symptoms of mental health problems. The brain consists of the

Neurons of the PFC translate diversity of information necessary for the attainment of future goals such
as encoding delay and response to both human imaging and rodent electrophysiological measures of
global neuronal activity which increases delay related PFC activity. Consistent with excitatory actions
of stress related glucocorticoids on PFC neurons, stress does not only suppresses responses and
change the overall gain of medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) neuronal signaling, but results in a
fundamental shift in the manner in which the PFC represents information on stress. Studies on rats
prove that stress impairs prefrontal cortex dependent processes that support goal directed behavior.
According to David M. Devilbiss et al., results from pharmacological studies predict that stress
subdues delay related spiking activity through increased catecholamine receptor signaling. Based on
the, sixteen rats were trained to perform a continuous T maze, delayed non match to position task rats.
The rats were housed individually with environmental enrichment and maintained on a 13/11 h

Mildred Pierce Film Noir
1. The Film Noir originated in the early 1940s. These films highlighted the dark side of human
existence. These films focused on darkness, sorrow, depression, crime, and helplessness. One of the
first stylistics Schrader discussed was the darkness. The rooms were dimly lit, or the shades would be
drawn to create an illusion of darkness. The darkness served the purpose of creating suspense and
heightening the dark feelings the screenwriters seek to evoke. In the film Mildred Pierce, a majority of
the film takes place in a police station. The police station was very dark, all the curtains were drawn,
and the police officers smoked, creating a dark and hazy setting. This element was highlighted in the
ending scene of the movie. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This aspect of film noir is used to emphasize the hardships or devastation that the characters have
faced in the past, enhancing the cycle or importance of the character s suffering. This stylistic
coincides with the next stylistic that Schrader discussed in which an organized timeline of the
characters suffering or hopelessness is applied throughout the film. Mildred Pierce s character went
through a hard life of being used and abused by the men she loved and her oldest daughter Veda. She
also faced some struggles such as divorce, unemployment, infidelity discrimination due to her gender,
and the death of her youngest daughter. Mildred Pierce exemplifies the organized timeline of suffering
for the main protagonist because Pierce had described her life of suffering through a series of
flashbacks that lead back to the ultimate climax of events and back to the police station. Mildred: It
didn t take me long that night to figure out that I was dead broke. And with Bert gone, it looked as
though I d stay broke. I felt all alone. For the first time in my life, I was lonely. There was so much to
remind me of Bert. How things used to be with us. And what great hopes we had (Mildred Pierce).

The Problem Of Gangs And Violence In Prisons
Gang violence is nationwide and is one of the most prominent problems in the prison system today.
Gangs are known to attempt to control the prisons/jails, instill fear within the prison system and
throughout the society, and bring negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise
about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. (Seabrook) A growing numbers of inmates and a
large amount of them serving longer sentences for violent crimes suggest a notable increase in gangs
and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future. Prisons began to bulge with gang members
when states enacted tougher laws for gang related crime in the mid to late 1980s. (Martinez) On one
hand the laws enacted helped get gang members off the street, but in another way it backfired by not
stopping the gangs activity. In many ways their number and power grew even more in prison.
(Martinez) The problem of gangs and violence has been addressed many times throughout the years
by the United States Correctional Board but the board has yet to take the problem seriously. Most
gang members in prisons are introduced to the gang life at an early age and enter prison a member, but
some become a member once behind bars mainly for the protection the gangs are known to provide.
Gangs are known to purposely intimidate other inmates, thus reinforcing the reason why one out of
every ten male inmates becomes a member once behind bars. (Knox) Most of the people who enter
prison a member

Essay about Analysis of the Poems of Robert Frost
The Road Not Taken and Nothing Gold Can Stay are just two of many very famous poems, written by
none other than Robert Frost. Robert Frost is a poet that is well known for his poetic contributions to
nature, as well as his award winning poems. His poetic ability and knowledge make him an
extraordinary author. His past; including schooling, family, and the era in which he wrote influenced
nearly all of his poems in some way. This very famous poet contributed to the modernism era, had a
family and an interesting life story, and a unique poetic style as well. The literary era in which Robert
Frost wrote was the modernism era. This era was a time when poets, and artists in general, were
starting to rebel against the normal way to write ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the era before this, regionalism, this poem does not focus on a restricted area or culture. It is
simply giving a description of a bird, which also could be looked at metaphorically, but nothing more.
The modernism era did not particularly focus on a main subject. It mostly just focused on the interior
dialogue and its unique characteristics.
Robert Lee Frost, born in 1874, grew up in California. He was an extraordinary student, and ended his
high school career as one of the valedictorians. He was very intelligent, and even went on to
Dartmouth College, though he did not graduate. He was married to his former high school classmate
Elinor White in 1895. Together they gave birth to six children. Later in life he attended Harvard
College. Robert Frost was known for his love of nature, and portrays it in many of his poems. For part
of his life he worked as a farmer, which could have contributed to his love for nature. Though Frost
clearly states, I am not a nature poet. There is almost always a person in my poems (frostfriends.org).
Frost obviously does not want people to think that he writes strictly about nature. He wants others to
see the meaning behind his poetry, as well as the human psychology hidden underneath his poems.
Frost did love nature though, not to be mistaken. He did use nature a lot throughout his poetry, he just
did not want people to skim the surface of his poems and think they were about nature when they

A Brief Note On Coronary Heart Of Diabetic Patients
Coronary Revascularisation in Diabetic Patients
Introduction
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) by two to four folds,
which may manifest as a silent myocardial infarct in diabetic patients. It is therefore of no surprise that
ischaemic coronary artery disease is responsible for ¾ of diabetes related deaths. The pathophysiology
of atherosclerosis differs greatly in patients with diabetes, resulting in a more progressive and
accelerated form of vascular disease. Revascularisation is required to reverse the damage, however
studies have shown that DM acts as a strong risk factor for restenosis following successful angioplasty
or coronary stenting. Therefore, choosing the most optimal revascularisation ... Show more content on

The meals are prepared by airline catering services. In the flight people sleep, entertained their self

Post-World War II America
The image of post World War II America is, generally speaking, identified as an era of wholesomeness
revolving around the nuclear family, the emergence of the suburban middle class and most importantly
social conformity. This period was also marked as one of oppression towards those that did match the
image of a good American citizen such as African Americans, working women, and homosexuals. All
of these groups, more or less, were subjected to legislation that blatantly limited their freedoms as
American citizens as well as demonization through the media and propagandist images and news

Dr. Parkinson s research and methodologies intended to understand and interpret emotion from a

Finishing My Education Debt Free

College. Merriam Webster dictionary defines it as an institution offering instruction usually in a
professional, vocational, or technical field, but if you ask most of the students who are attending a
college right now, they may define it as a four to eight year money sucking hole. College is one of the
most expensive, and most important, things that you will ever put your money into. The average cost
of a four year degree is ten to twenty thousand dollars. Schooling beyond those four years can be as
expensive as up to thirty thousand dollars a year, based on the kind of degree you are working for.

to maintain these scholarships, but it will all be worth it when I am able to accomplish my schooling

Synthesis Of Aspirin Synthesis
Synthesis of Aspirin
Erin Chase Arellano CHEM 12A
ABSTRACT
Acetylsalicylic or most commonly known as Aspirin is made through a combination of salicylic acid
and acetic anhydride. It is use to relieve mild to moderate pain such as muscle pain, headaches and
common cold and reduce fever.
The objective of this experiment was to synthesize aspirin from salicylic acid and acetic anhydride.
The purity of aspirin was tested using the ferric chloride test and % yield was also calculated. Below
drawing is the synthesis reaction of aspirin:
PROCEDURE
Preparations of Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin) Prepare a hot water bath using a 250 ml beaker and a

Toying with Success: The McFarlane Toy Company
Todd McFarlane, president and CEO of the McFarlane Companies, is an entrepreneur who
understands the importance of product development. Comics, sports, toys, and rock and roll have all
benefited from his creativity. When McFarlane s dream to play major league baseball didn t happen,
he fell back on another interest he developed as a teenager drawing superheroes. He faced the same
question faced by all entrepreneurs: Could he make money pursuing his dream? He sent his sketches
to prospective employers, and after 300 rejection letters McFarlane got a job freelancing for Marvel
Comics. Working many hours for low pay, he made a name for himself and by 1990 was the highest
paid comic book artist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the global influence on business impacts all the other environments. Knowing he can t control
the global environment, McFarlane focuses on managing what he can control.
Todd McFarlane s purchase of Mark McGwire s 70th home run ball for $3 million illustrates his
willingness to take a risk and focus on what he controls. While many thought he was crazy, McFarlane
saw an opportunity. He combined the ball with several others hit by McGwire and Sammy Sosa to
create the McFarlane Collection, which was displayed in every major league stadium and garnered
enormous publicity.
A portion of the proceeds was donated to the Lou Gehrig Foundation. Most significant, McFarlane
began a relationship with professional sports that led to his obtaining the exclusive rights to nearly
every professional sports team toy license.

Database And Unstructured Data Of A Business Perspective
1. Introduction
Nowadays, terabytes to petabytes of data that is been stored and transmitted by numerous sources and
organizations have realized that these data contain tangible value that has the potential to change the
fortunes of a business. Top firms leverage their business through the valuable insights gained through
these data to assist them in their decision making process. The huge chucks of data consists structured,
semi structured and unstructured data. Organizations have switched their focus more on exploring
semi structured and unstructured data that is generated through social media activities, personal media
information and geo location data.

In addition to its flexibility, these databases provides horizontal scalability and distributed computing
that led to adoption of NoSQL databases in the firms. The SQL databases uses Structured Query
Language whereas NOSQL databases use Unstructured Query Language which varies from database
to database.
1.2 Features of NoSQL Databases:
Schema on Read: There is no definite schema on the underlying data in the databases and it leads to
high flexibility on the storage
Nonrelational: In traditional databases there are relations between the tables. For example, a list of
transaction details can be connected to a separate list of delivery details. With a NoSQL database, this
information is stored as an aggregate a single record with everything about the transaction, including
the delivery address
Commodity hardware: With a NoSQL database, cheap commodity hardware can be used. Adding
more of these cheap servers allows NoSQL databases to scale to handle more data.
Highly distributable: With a NoSQL database, a cluster of servers can be used to hold a single large
database
2. Different Types of NOSQL databases
There are many types of non relational databases but more often than not, they fall under one of the
following categories:
2.1 Document Model
In a document model, data is stored in documents. This uses a type of notation called JSON
(JavaScript Object Notation) and is closely associated with the object

Ralph Waldo Emerson And The Transcendentalism Movement
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Author Ralph Waldo Emerson, who is considered one of the Great American authors, wrote during the
transcendentalism period. Particularly, his work titled Self Reliance written in 1841 we can see the
evidence of the characteristics, themes and style identified with the transcendentalism movement
which was an extant in American letters between 1820 s and 1830 s. As a representative of such a
movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson then remains one of the most identifiable and iconic writers of his
time.
Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer and poet who led the transcendentalist
movement of the mid 19th century. He was born in May 25, 1803, in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of

For example, A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and
philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. Here Emerson
expresses that greater minds are not bothered at the thought of thinking differently and following their
own beliefs ant any giving time. He motivates his readers to be non consistent, and to not blinded and
foolished by the words of others who are viewed as superior. Another example would be: Trust
thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron sting. Accept the place the divine providence has found for
you; the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events. In this phrase Emerson states that
we should always follow our instincts first, because our heart beats to the truth and only we know the
truth. He motivates us to never doubt in ourselves, and never doubt in what we re doing or where we
re at, because God put us in that place or situation for a reason. If you analyze it, accept it, and you
push further you will realize that what you re doing and where you re at is where exactly you need to
be.
In this way, we can clearly see why Ralph Waldo Emerson is considered the Father of
Transcendentalism and one of the greatest writers during the transcendentalist

Child Labor Is An Practical Answer For Poor Families
Cocoa is made from the cacao bean, which that only grows in tropical environments. The only places
where you can grow these beans are along the Ivory Coast (the West African countries along the
coastline) and Central America. The victims of child labor are often 12 16 years old, but reporters
have found children as young as 5 years of age at these farms. Children do not get to see their parents
and families for years, or ever. Most farmers have never eaten chocolate in their entire lives.
Although the cocoa farm owners make tons of money, they still pay their workers under $2 a day. This
is way below the poverty line. As a result, child labor becomes the practical answer for poor families
who work at these farms. There are two main ways how parents willingly make their children work at
these farms. One is that they need more workers so they make their children help them. Another way
is that the owners of these farms tell the parents to sell their kid to them. They say that it is easy work
and they get food and an education. They then make them work from 4 A.M. to 4 P.M. This is a 12
hour work day for children. They usually are not able to break the poverty system because they are not
educated. They sleep on wooden planks and are fed mashed corn with bread in limited amounts.
The children s growth will halt because of lack of sleep and malnutrition. Pesticides are used on the
plants which with inhaling and touching can cause serious, sometimes permanent side

Similarities Between Dulce Et Decorum Est And The Glories...
The Glories of War There are many short stories and poems written about the glory of war and the
pride and bravery one should feel in dying for one s country. Jim Northrup and Wilfred Owen are both
soldiers who served their country, the former in Vietnam and the latter in World War II. These men s
individual experiences led them to view warfare in a realistic manner that is contrary to the classic
image war is allotted. These experiences also led to these two men to write about these realities in the
form of poetry. Although Wahbegan by Northrup and Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen are two
poems written in different time periods, they both represent the bitter thoughts of a soldier who dares

The narrator provides the reader with an image of downtrodden men, trudging along, barely awake.
Having fought some of the bloodiest action of WWI, Owen wished to warn his English countrymen
that the horrors of combat far outweigh its glory. (Poetry for Students) During such times of war many
writers glorify soldiers and battles in such a way that makes men want to be a part of the action .
These noble men march onwards with their heads held high, courage in their hearts and love for their
country forever pushing them forward. Owens, having seen the realities firsthand, aimed to disperse
these deceitful images with the narrator s words: Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots/but
limped on, blood shod. All went lame; all blind;/drunk with fatigue (5 7). He describes such a desolate
scene of men so thoroughly tired from war that they didn t even notice the sound of explosives
dropping behind them until it was too late for one of them. The men are suddenly attacked my mustard
gas, and one unfortunate man, reflexes slowed by exhaustion, fails to put his gas mask on in time. The
narrator describes the scene unfolding in front of him: the blood came gargling from the froth
corrupted lungs/obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud/of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues (22

schools for the deaf, and the first deaf person to get an honorary M.A. degree from Trinity College.
Clerc was born to a prominent family in the village of LaBalme, France. His father was a notary by

Following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the major breweries continued to use unmalted cereal
grains to provide the full body and mouthfeel of a real beer while keeping the alcohol content low. The
maturation tanks (they call them chip tanks) that Anheuser Busch utilizes are horizontal and, as such,
the yeast aggregates more quickly. Anheuser Busch refers to this process as a secondary fermentation,
with the idea being that the chips give the yeast more surface area to rest on. This is also combined
with a procedure that re introduces wort into the chip tank therefore activating the fermentation
process again. By placing chips at the bottom of the tank, the yeast remains in suspension longer,
giving it more time to reabsorb and process green beer flavors that Anheuser Busch believes are off
flavors which detract from overall drinkability. As with most food products opinions differ regarding
its taste. While some drinkers prefer the lightness of beers like Budweiser and consume it as

Economic Analysis of Remedial Education and How it...
INTRODUCTION
Education is an important part of one s life. It can shape a student s identity, challenge his biases, and
encourage him to be inquisitorial and entrepreneurial in his thinking. Education can also push a
student through institutions only to ascertain that he meets some minimum standard. Modern day high
schools are graduating students in record numbers (Richmond 2013) , but the prevalence of
remediation in higher education illustrates the structural failure of American public schools to
effectively, adequately, and equitably educate students, especially indigent student populations (Strong
American Schools). As such, this issue requires serious public policy consideration.

The four year colleges do not admit remedial students, whereas the community colleges are required
by charter to accept every New York City high school graduate who applies. While the city lauds
rising enrollment rates as evidence of its improved performance CUNY s community colleges have
had to double their annual spending on remediation in just a decade, to $33 million. Kamenev touches
on the role of teachers and how remedial classes cheapen the role of college professors to de facto
high school teachers.
Laura Diamond, reports in The Atlanta Journal Constitution, that nearly 23,000 Georgians enter
college unprepared and have to take learning support classes. Up to $22 million is spent in state
annually on these remedial courses (Diamond 2010). Remedial course credit does not count toward
diploma requirements and only about 25% of remedial students in Georgia earn a bachelor s degree
within six years. Some, like Representative Earl Erhart, head of the Georgia House committee that
oversees college budgets, do not sugar coat the situation. Ehrhart said, ...college has become a

Internet can be considered as a global communication tool because of its popularity in adolescents and
as a source of health information. It can also be used by the school dropout to seek information related
to sexual aspects where they cannot find information in their surrounding environment. Thus it can
also be considered as a cultural tool kit as it can be shared as the information can be saved and

questioning and self exploration. At this point I am aware of all the information that I lack on certain
subjects. Because of this revelation I actively search out information about race, religion, sexual
orientation, gender spectrum and general opinions over commonly discussed issues. I believe that in
this globalized world people do need to become more aware of the differences in people in order to
embrace humanity as a whole. The next step to becoming more culturally aware is to continue to
gather more information. On the other hand Garrett was more generous and decided that I am in level
five, validation of diversity. He believes that I already have enough understanding of different beliefs
and practices. He describes how I take other people into consideration when working with and talking
to others. I appreciate his insight into how he views my knowledge of cultural awareness. Before I am
willing to agree with Garrett I know that there is more information to know. I will agree with Socrates
when he says One thing I know is that I know nothing .
When interacting with others Garrett and I both agree that I fall into level five, validation. I support
the ideas and concepts that others add to the discussion based on their different backgrounds.

Corporate Responsibility And Its Impact On Social...
Sustainable development requires companies to meet their objectives while protecting the quality of
life of their employees, surrounding community, and the environment. More than 40 years ago,
Medtronic s co founder Earl Bakken provided the framework for the company s sustainability strategy
by formulating the company s mission statement that has remained unchanged to the present day.
Medtronic has operated with a clear, compelling mission: To contribute to human welfare through the
application of biomedical engineering in the research, design, manufacture, and sale of instruments or
appliances that alleviate pain, restore health and extend life ( Integrated, , 2016, p.4). This visionary
mission statement also included a group of ethical guidelines such as the need to strive without reserve
for the greatest possible reliability, to recognize the personal worth of employees, and to maintain
good citizenship as a company. Those early tenets of corporate responsibility were the foundation of
Medtronic s current sustainability practices.
Social sustainability practices are conceived to ensure that the business has a positive influence on
social wellbeing. Medtronic considers that supporting access to healthcare improves the quality of life
of the community and view access to healthcare as a human rights issue ( GRI, 2016). By developing
medical innovations like the first battery operated pacemaker, first insulin pump, or the first deep
brain stimulation therapy for people

Paul s Missionary Journeys and Epistle Correlates
Paul s Missionary Journeys and Epistle Correlates The missionary journeys of Paul cover a major
portion of the Book of the Acts of the Apostles (commonly shortened to Acts). Acts demonstrates, at
least in part, how the journeys relate to the writing of the Epistles or letters to various congregations
that needed encouragement or some other word from Paul, and when they were written. The three
journeys happened in close relation to one another and were meant to spread the Gospel message to
the unsaved and encourage those who had come to believe on the Son of Man. The letters were written
as an inspiration from the Father to further the understanding of believers regarding the perfect life of
a Christian. This papers describes in short form the three missionary journeys of Paul and how they
relate, chronologically, to Paul s writing of the epistles. Missionary Journeys The first element of the
journeys was who traveled with Paul. He went on the first with Barnabas and Mark. Barnabas was
regarded as a coworker and Mark as an apprentice or helper according to Niswonger (1992, 209). The
second journey was much longer, as concerns distance, but did not take as much time and was
accomplished with Silas. The third journey is a solo one apparently (McGee, 1998). The approximate
dates of the three journeys are First from 45 AD to 47 AD, Second from 51 AD to 53 AD and Third
from 54 AD to 58 AD (McGee, 1998). Of course all of these dates are somewhat speculative, but they
are

  • 2. Racial Bias From The Console PSYC 114/SUMMER 2014 Racial Bias from the Console Kathy Vo A10694259 Introduction Researchers regularly research the media s influence on race perception, but rarely examine one specific form: video games. Unlike formats such as television and newspapers, video games provide an interactive platform for users to live in an alternative world and perform acts considered socially wrong in real societies (Burgess et al). This form of virtual simulation can reinforce how one perceives stereotypes at higher rates. Not only do the majority of these games feature white protagonists, but also task them to defeat ethnically ambiguous enemies. Currently, the most popular genre is shooter games set in the Middle East, where the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Racial bias may also influence who we choose to bond with. Another study suggest we show empathy bias to in group members when viewing clips of people being poked with a big needle, indicated through activation of the anterior cingulate cortex (Xu et al). Previous studies examining the relationship between video games and race perception mainly measured racial bias through Implicit Association Tests (Bosman). Not only can these tests be subjective, but participants may fix their answers in attempts to deny their identity as racist. For my research, I aim to link neuronal activity of implicit racism into manifested behavior. I hypothesize that playing video games with negative racial stereotypes will produce stronger implicit thoughts and explicit behavior of racism than other media formats. Method Participants for this study will be recruited from college students looking for extra credit. We will specifically request for participants with minimal to no video game experience for a more accurate reading on the effects of video games on race perception. The subjects will be informed that the experiment will research attention and memory. For this study, we will focus on racial bias against Middle Easterns, a group often linked to terrorism due to recent military activities. Using fMRI, the first task will measure initial activation of the amygdala (fear) and anterior cingulate cortex (empathy). All ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Serious Crimes in the Uniform Crime Report The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) is consisted of two parts, part one and part two. Part one crimes are the eight most serious offenses, which is murder, rape, assault, robbery, burglary, arson, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. Part two crimes are all other crimes except the ones in part one. They also include drug offenses, sex crimes, and vandalism. The UCR is a large database that stores all the information of the crimes that are reported and arrests made each year in the USA. The method used to get the information to the FBI is complex. Each month a law enforcement agencies report the count of part one crimes. The advantage of UCR is that people can see what kinds of crimes happen in a specific area. The disadvantage of UCR is that many of the serious crimes are not reported because the victims think that the crime is unimportant, they don t trust the police, or involved in something illegal during the time of the crime. The National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) is also consisted of two parts but includes offenses such as runaways, vagrancy, embezzlement, drug offenses and bribery. The NIBRS gives you a brief account of each incident and arrests; it includes the incident, victim, and the offender s information. The advantage of NIBRS is that it has a broader development on crimes and is more accurate then the UCR. The disadvantage is that only twenty states have this crime report system that s less then half of the US. The Survey Research is a survey that asks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Porsche And Volkswagen Group Case Study Unit 4 Team Exercise The invention of automobiles had been dated long back in history. From that day till now, it had not only made our lives easier but also simpler. From times back then till now many big automobile companies had came into existence, some of them were successful and some were not, thus going out of market and competition. Among them, Porsche and Volkswagen Group(VW) have emerged as one of the world leaders in automobile industry. Through years of hardwork and sheer use of technology and engineering developments, both of these companies have carved a name for themselves in their respective markets. But sometimes, bad management and several areas of conflict arise between two companies that can lead to its downfall. In this case too the CEO of Porsche, just wanted to administer each and everything according to his own ways and rules, but on the other hand the CEO of Volkswagen, even after facing huge loses wanted to continue on with his strategy because he was quite confident about his strategy and clearly had a broader outlook of the scenario. Therefore, due to having different mindsets, there was a conflict between the ideas of two which led to the decline of one of them. These conflicts can be summed up in the following couple of questions: 1. Identify and discuss the sources of conflict between Porsche and Volkswagen executives. Well, throughout this case there was a sense of internal war between the executives of two of the world s largest automobile companies. Wiedeking, the CEO of Porsche, can be seen as a dominating personality throughout this case. Wiedeking was famous for his efficient production and astute marketing, which turned Porsche into world s most profitable car company. Therefore, keeping this same attitude in mind, he wanted to make some major changes in the Volkswagen group(VW) because he was aiming to achieve something big. He wanted to remove inefficient operations and also insisted on shutting down the production lines of some cars like Phaeton and Buggati , which according to him were not highly profitable and were a commercial failure. On the other hand, Ferdinand Piech, the CEO of Volkswagen group, had something else in his mind. Unlike Wiedeking, who only focused ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Equipment Review of the Vertec and Bertec Equipment Review The equipment in this study includes a Vertec vertical jump measuring system (Figure 1) and a Bertec force plate (Figure 2). The Vertec vertical jump measuring system measures individuals vertical jump capabilities in inches. The Bertec force plate measures the ground reaction forces in newtons produced when an individual performs a jump and when they land following a jump. The Vertec vertical jump measuring system is constructed out of a steel frame and has horizontal vanes that rotate when the hand touches them. The vanes spaced half inch between and the height of the vanes is adjustable from 6 feet to 12 feet tall. The Vertec vertical jump measuring system is considered the gold standard for measuring vertical jump height and its measurements have been found reliable.1 The Bertec force plate is a much more complicated device. It uses strain gauges to measure the force applied to the force plate. The force applied to the plate by the subject will be equal to the forces the plate applies to the subject as determined by Newton s third law. When the strain gauge is compressed the resistance of the current running through the gauge decreases however when the strain gauge is placed under tension the resistance of the current traveling through it increases. The Bertec force plate measures forces applied to the device in the x, y and z axis using strain gauges. The strain gauges produce signals when force is applied to the force plate surface, which are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Importance Of Seeing The Philadelphia Orchestra... Last year I had the privilege of seeing the Philadelphia Orchestra perform Gustav Holst s: The Planets Suite. The piece as a whole is one that pulls the strings of your heart from the first pound to the last mystic moment of silence. It has been a year since I heard the orchestral piece in full, and ever since, I have been awaiting to get an opportunity like that again. It is unfortunately a rare occurance in my generation to feel so strongly about a piece of art. The world is at our fingertips, and yet we have no urge to explore it. According to Gustav, the Planets were a depiction of life and the many stages of its progression. As a young adult and musician this suite inspired a new way of seeing, feeling, and hearing life. Thierry Fischer, a music director at Utah Symphony wrote, Holst denied that the suite has any connection to the classical Zodiac other than the names and traits of the personified planets, that connection by itself is enough for the music to conjure strong images of the mythological deities associated with each. Mars, the bringer of war, begins with five quiet yet dominant beats in a reverberating 5/4 rhythm. As the movement continues we hear the grinding minor chords, which leaves the ear unsettled. Mars is said to be an obvious illustration of war, the depressing and frightening steady march of soldiers as they walk toward the unknown. Throughout the entire movement there is no clear harmonic release, the chromaticism just sways back and forth. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, whatsoever we do based on how our neurons communicate with each other. These neurons produce chemical signals (known as neurotransmitters) and electrical impulses that carry messages across diverse parts of the brain and within the brain and other parts of the body by crossing synapses and binding to receptors on the dendrites of the receiving neuron. When the process does not work well, or the electrical signals do not function properly, they cause symptoms of mental health problems. Studies on rats prove that stress impairs prefrontal cortex dependent processes that support goal directed behavior. According to David M. • 9. Mildred Pierce Film Noir 1. The Film Noir originated in the early 1940s. These films highlighted the dark side of human existence. These films focused on darkness, sorrow, depression, crime, and helplessness. One of the first stylistics Schrader discussed was the darkness. The rooms were dimly lit, or the shades would be drawn to create an illusion of darkness. The darkness served the purpose of creating suspense and heightening the dark feelings the screenwriters seek to evoke. In the film Mildred Pierce, a majority of the film takes place in a police station. The police station was very dark, all the curtains were drawn, and the police officers smoked, creating a dark and hazy setting. This element was highlighted in the ending scene of the movie. Mildred Pierce s character went through a hard life of being used and abused by the men she loved and her oldest daughter Veda. She also faced some struggles such as divorce, unemployment, infidelity discrimination due to her gender, and the death of her youngest daughter. Mildred Pierce exemplifies the organized timeline of suffering for the main protagonist because Pierce had described her life of suffering through a series of flashbacks that lead back to the ultimate climax of events and back to the police station. • 10. The Problem Of Gangs And Violence In Prisons Gang violence is nationwide and is one of the most prominent problems in the prison system today. Gangs are known to attempt to control the prisons/jails, instill fear within the prison system and throughout the society, and bring negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. (Seabrook) A growing numbers of inmates and a large amount of them serving longer sentences for violent crimes suggest a notable increase in gangs and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future. Prisons began to bulge with gang members when states enacted tougher laws for gang related crime in the mid to late 1980s. (Martinez) On one hand the laws enacted helped get gang members off the street, but in another way it backfired by not stopping the gangs activity. In many ways their number and power grew even more in prison. (Martinez) The problem of gangs and violence has been addressed many times throughout the years by the United States Correctional Board but the board has yet to take the problem seriously. Most gang members in prisons are introduced to the gang life at an early age and enter prison a member, but some become a member once behind bars mainly for the protection the gangs are known to provide. Gangs are known to purposely intimidate other inmates, thus reinforcing the reason why one out of every ten male inmates becomes a member once behind bars. Robert Frost is a poet that is well known for his poetic contributions to nature, as well as his award winning poems. His poetic ability and knowledge make him an extraordinary author. His past; including schooling, family, and the era in which he wrote influenced nearly all of his poems in some way. This very famous poet contributed to the modernism era, had a family and an interesting life story, and a unique poetic style as well. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the era before this, regionalism, this poem does not focus on a restricted area or culture. It is simply giving a description of a bird, which also could be looked at metaphorically, but nothing more. The modernism era did not particularly focus on a main subject. It mostly just focused on the interior dialogue and its unique characteristics. Robert Lee Frost, born in 1874, grew up in California. He was an extraordinary student, and ended his high school career as one of the valedictorians. He was very intelligent, and even went on to Dartmouth College, though he did not graduate. He was married to his former high school classmate Elinor White in 1895. Together they gave birth to six children. Later in life he attended Harvard College. Robert Frost was known for his love of nature, and portrays it in many of his poems. For part of his life he worked as a farmer, which could have contributed to his love for nature. Though Frost clearly states, I am not a nature poet. There is almost always a person in my poems (frostfriends.org). Frost obviously does not want people to think that he writes strictly about nature. He wants others to see the meaning behind his poetry, as well as the human psychology hidden underneath his poems. Frost did love nature though, not to be mistaken. He did use nature a lot throughout his poetry, he just did not want people to skim the surface of his poems and think they were about nature when they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The only places where you can grow these beans are along the Ivory Coast (the West African countries along the coastline) and Central America. The victims of child labor are often 12 16 years old, but reporters have found children as young as 5 years of age at these farms. Children do not get to see their parents and families for years, or ever. Most farmers have never eaten chocolate in their entire lives. Although the cocoa farm owners make tons of money, they still pay their workers under $2 a day. This is way below the poverty line. As a result, child labor becomes the practical answer for poor families who work at these farms. There are two main ways how parents willingly make their children work at these farms. One is that they need more workers so they make their children help them. Another way is that the owners of these farms tell the parents to sell their kid to them. They say that it is easy work and they get food and an education. They then make them work from 4 A.M. to 4 P.M. This is a 12 hour work day for children. Following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the major breweries continued to use unmalted cereal grains to provide the full body and mouthfeel of a real beer while keeping the alcohol content low. The maturation tanks (they call them chip tanks) that Anheuser Busch utilizes are horizontal and, as such, the yeast aggregates more quickly. Anheuser Busch refers to this process as a secondary fermentation, with the idea being that the chips give the yeast more surface area to rest on. This is also combined with a procedure that re introduces wort into the chip tank therefore activating the fermentation process again. By placing chips at the bottom of the tank, the yeast remains in suspension longer, giving it more time to reabsorb and process green beer flavors that Anheuser Busch believes are off flavors which detract from overall drinkability. As with most food products opinions differ regarding its taste. While some drinkers prefer the lightness of beers like Budweiser and consume it as refreshment, some beer writers consider it as being too bland. It can shape a student s identity, challenge his biases, and encourage him to be inquisitorial and entrepreneurial in his thinking. Education can also push a student through institutions only to ascertain that he meets some minimum standard. Modern day high schools are graduating students in record numbers (Richmond 2013) , but the prevalence of remediation in higher education illustrates the structural failure of American public schools to effectively, adequately, and equitably educate students, especially indigent student populations (Strong American Schools). Sustainable development requires companies to meet their objectives while protecting the quality of life of their employees, surrounding community, and the environment. More than 40 years ago, Medtronic s co founder Earl Bakken provided the framework for the company s sustainability strategy by formulating the company s mission statement that has remained unchanged to the present day. Medtronic has operated with a clear, compelling mission: To contribute to human welfare through the application of biomedical engineering in the research, design, manufacture, and sale of instruments or appliances that alleviate pain, restore health and extend life ( Integrated, , 2016, p.4). This visionary mission statement also included a group of ethical guidelines such as the need to strive without reserve for the greatest possible reliability, to recognize the personal worth of employees, and to maintain good citizenship as a company. Those early tenets of corporate responsibility were the foundation of Medtronic s current sustainability practices. Social sustainability practices are conceived to ensure that the business has a positive influence on social wellbeing. • 43. Paul s Missionary Journeys and Epistle Correlates Paul s Missionary Journeys and Epistle Correlates The missionary journeys of Paul cover a major portion of the Book of the Acts of the Apostles (commonly shortened to Acts). Acts demonstrates, at least in part, how the journeys relate to the writing of the Epistles or letters to various congregations that needed encouragement or some other word from Paul, and when they were written. The three journeys happened in close relation to one another and were meant to spread the Gospel message to the unsaved and encourage those who had come to believe on the Son of Man. The letters were written as an inspiration from the Father to further the understanding of believers regarding the perfect life of a Christian. This papers describes in short form the three missionary journeys of Paul and how they relate, chronologically, to Paul s writing of the epistles. Missionary Journeys The first element of the journeys was who traveled with Paul. He went on the first with Barnabas and Mark. Barnabas was regarded as a coworker and Mark as an apprentice or helper according to Niswonger (1992, 209). The second journey was much longer, as concerns distance, but did not take as much time and was accomplished with Silas. The third journey is a solo one apparently (McGee, 1998). The approximate dates of the three journeys are First from 45 AD to 47 AD, Second from 51 AD to 53 AD and Third from 54 AD to 58 AD (McGee, 1998).
