Structural Functionalism And Family Analysis
Structural Functionalism is a theory in sociology which states that each part of society is necessary for
the functioning of the social organism. There are several elements in the functionalist paradigm which
explain how society functions in order to maintain the social organism and keep it alive. These
elements of functionalisms are cohesion, integration, solidarity, and equilibrium. These elements
explain how society is divided into different functional parts, with each part depending on the next
adding up to the structural whole of society. Under the structural functional paradigm we see the
family structure which is viewed as a small social group which is related by blood Ancestor or
affection. Sharing common goals and values, they may live together and are involved in child rearing

The family is viewed mainly as the nuclear family as in mother, father, and children although the
family structure had changed over time with the extended family, single parent families and on word.
The family structure s main functions are reproduction, education, and the economy. Without these
functions society on a whole would not exist. In the case of education we place women in the role of
raising, nurturing, and educating the children with in the home instilling values and norms while the
father figure took on the role of being the financial provider, and providing security for the family. The
family structure plays a very important role as through reproduction the replace members, who have
dies, Socialization where they educate children on norms and values and how to carry themselves out
in society as functional individuals providing emotional, psychological and physical care for family
members. If these needs are not met within the family structure according the structural functional
theory the family is said to be dysfunctional. The Family is our back bone it is the foundation of how

Spirituality Essay
Spirituality can have many different definitions, depending on who is asked. It can be something as
simple as looking for a higher meaning to life, or something so complex that one can base their
beliefs, religion and overall life around it. There are several different ways to express one s
spirituality; rituals, songs, dances, stories, and writings are all common methods of expression.
Spirituality can be found in almost anything. Finding spirituality in something can make someone feel
enlightened and bring strong emotion and deep feeling. In some cases, people would be willing to
sacrifice nearly anything to help maintain the integrity of what they find to be spiritual. The earth is
found in many cultures to be regarded as highly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their spirituality is heavily influenced by nature. David Suzuki may very well be the most popular
scientist in all of Canada. In his book The Sacred Balance, Suzuki discusses his view that people and
the earth are all made of the same things and therefore we both need the same elements to survive:
earth, air, fire and water. For humans to lead rich lives, Suzuki also adds love and spirit to the list. In
the introduction to The Sacred Balance, Suzuki interviews a Haida Gwaii artist named Guujaaw about
the battle over clear cut logging in his native Queen Charlotte Islands. Although the logging industry
in the islands generated several much needed jobs, many of the Haida were opposed to it. Guujaaw
stated that after the trees were all gone, his people would be just like everybody else, and they would
not be Haida anymore. The fact that somebody would feel so connected with the trees, to include them
in their identity proves that spirituality can be found in nature. For Gujarat s people the trees, the birds,
the fish, the water, the wind are all parts of the Haida identity. Their land, and everything on it, means
so much to the Haida people that they would be willing to sacrifice jobs and economy to keep the
integrity of their culture, history, and the land that is all a part of their identity. Joy Williams is an

The Effects of Traumatic Brain Injury Essay
I. Introduction The focus of this study was to examine the effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in
children and adolescents on prospective memory. The purpose of the study was to add to the scant
research on the effects of TBI on prospective memory in children and adolescents. The authors were
also interested in adding support to the existing theory that the prefrontal areas of the brain meditate
prospective memory. (Ward et al., 2005) The authors were, for the purposes of this study, assuming
that the brain s prefrontal regions are involved in prospective memory. The authors theorized that
younger children, with or without TBI, whose prefrontal regions are not fully developed, should
perform poorly on prospective tasks. It was also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The participants responded by pressing a green key for a response to a word, or a red key for a
nonword. The lower level demand version of the task used longer words, and the higher level version
used shorter words. The participants were also shown italic letters, 12 total, within some of the words
and non words presented to them, which are the prospective memory cues. Participants were told to
press the 6th key, in a row of grey keys, when they saw an italic letter appear. The participants were
also tested with the following tasks to observe executive functioning capabilities: Self Ordered
Pointing Task (SOPT), Stroop Color Word Inference Task, and Tower of London (TOL). Responses
were collected and data was created on each of the four groups (children and adolescents with and
without TBI), showing correct responses for both the high and low cognitive demand levels of the
task. The results of the study showed several outcomes. First, that in both groups lexical decision
accuracies were higher in low demand cognitive conditions than in the high conditions. Overall, those
with TBI had lower overall prospective memory scores than the participants in the control groups. In
addition to this, adolescents performed better than the children. However, as the cognitive demand of
the tasks increased, there was a larger gap in performance between

Critical Appreciation Of Judith Decapitating Holofernes
From Whitney Chadwick third edition of Women, Art, and Society, the piece of artwork that engaged
me deeply from this book is the 17th Century Italian Baroque painting Judith Decapitating Holofernes
c. 1618 by Italian artist Artemisia Gentileschi. This painting is oil on canvas painting in the style of
classical Italian Baroque characteristics of chiaroscuro, dramatic realism, naturalistic, and rich vivid
colors. What I see physically at first from the painting is at the center of the work a violent action is
being played out by two young women using a sword to behead a man s head while he s in bed. I can
see the arm strength of Judith and her maidservant in the way they re holding the man down to keep
him still while their killing him and in the way the artist arranges the women s arms. I also see the
amazement, terror, and vulnerability Holofernes is feeling by the way Artemisia painted in such detail
in the look in his unnaturally wide eyes due to shock, his mouth is open like he s either screaming for
help or in pain, and how his body is contorted in an uncomfortable arrangement almost like he s trying
to get up to stop this assault. What mostly draws me and holds my attention to this painting is the raw
intensified emotion Artemisia can show of the three characters in this dramatic climatic scene, how
theatrical she is with the blood when Judith cuts into Holofernes neck, raw emotions, and how to me
other paintings seem so tame compared to Artemisia Judith. I

The Myth Of Prometheus And The Garden Of Eden
How can there be similar themes in different books? Themes can be found in every story. If one says
ignorance is bliss, or spirituality vs. science, these are all themes. Correspondingly, acceptance is a
theme that has always been used. However, this word has not only been used for texts it has been used
everywhere, from books to relations to even movies. To put it differently, ambition is getting what you
want, this is seen often in stories. This word makes people think what their needs are and what their
wants are. Furthermore, themes are generally made when you feel like you have seen the movie or
read that book, however you have just watched the movie which has similar themes in it. There are
many themes in one story. The themes of spirituality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She opened the lid a very little, just to peep in side. All at once there was a whirring, rustling sound,

Doodle learned to walk and be normal, the presented to death this shows characters actions. The
knowledge that doodle and my plans had come to naught was bitter, and that streak of cruelty within
me awakened. (Hurst 6) This quotation shows that Doodle had died due to his brother and how he

they will not die, but simply become as gods. (1) This quotation shows that Adam and Eve had

Refugee Controversy
The estimated number of refugees since World War II is one hundred million ( Refugee ). Supporting
and solving today s refugee crisis is especially controversial because of the current events, financing,
and security issues. A refugee is a person who has left their country because of fear of their safety due
to violence, race, religion, or war ( Refugee Facts ). Climate change and natural disasters sometimes
cause people to leave their homes or countries. Some examples of these natural disasters are floods,
earthquakes, hurricanes, and mudslides. These do not qualify as a reason to be a refuge ( Refugees ).
Refugees leave their country and move to another country and ask for asylum which provides
protection and assistance as a confirmed refugee. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In December 2015 Donald Trump argued that Muslim refugees should not be accepted into the U.S.
until the vetting process can be improved to reduce security risks. Representative Peter King also
believes that the process of checking refugees is not good enough. The process does not provide
enough information to tell if a refugee is a terrorist or will become one ( Refugee Crisis ). In June
2015, Representative Michael McCaul said that terrorists are sneaking into the United States through
the refugee process, and the United States should protect its citizens first ( Refugee Crisis ). Between
2001 and 2015, three of 850,000 refugees were convicted of terrorist attacks (Landon, Shanti.).
Vetting refugees from Middle Eastern countries at war is not effective because criminal and terrorist
records are not updated in these countries (Landon, Shanti) Other people believe the exact opposite is
true. For instance, David Bier is the Director of Immigration Policy at Niskanen Center in Washington
D.C. He wrote in his blog that refugees that flee from ISIS violence should continue to be welcomed
into the U.S. because of the welfare of those people and for security reasons. Patrick Eddington, a
prior CIA officer, said that Syrian refugees know a lot about ISIS, and they can give the United States
information about ISIS. Some ISIS information has already been leaked by the Syrians to help the
United States defeat them (Bier, David). Some people argue that besides a security threat, refugees
also threaten the cultural ways of the country. In September 2015, the Politico reported that Bernard
Monot of the European Parliament feared that the culture of France would change because Muslim
refugees would bring in more children and more influence ( Refugee

Conflict Between Joseph And His Brothers
One of the inherent conflicts in the story of Joseph is the tension between Joseph and his brothers. The
tension between them is caused by both Jacob and Joseph. First, Jacob shows favoritism toward
Joseph, because he is the son of his favorite wife Rachel. Second, Joseph brings back bad reports
when he is out pasturing with his brothers. However, what truly increased the hatred and jealousy was
the Joseph s dreams. The author notes that when Joseph recounts the dreams, they hated him even
more (Gen. 37:8). Their jealousy for Joseph is strong enough that they are willing to murder him.
However, they decide to instead sell him into slavery, and convince Jacob that he was killed.
A greater conflict is later revealed later in the story. Joseph is brought before Pharaoh to interpret his
dream, and he reveals that after seven years of plenty, a severe famine will engulf the land so that the
seven years of plenty will be forgotten. In order to prepare for the famine, Pharaoh must appoint
someone to oversee the storing and rationing of the food in Egypt. Since Joseph interpreted the dream
that the magicians and wisemen of Egypt could not, Pharaoh made Joseph second in command over
all of Egypt. Through Joseph Egypt is well prepared for the famine.
These two main conflicts are interdependent in the Story of Joseph. Without the tension between
Joseph and his brothers, Joseph would have never been able to interpret Pharaoh s dream, and Egypt
(and Joseph s family) would have not

Implementing The Tax System Classification Rules
On December 17, 1996, the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) finalized rules that were intended
to simplify the tax entity classification rules. These rules have become known as the check the box
regulations. Simply put, these regulations allow an eligible entity to check a box that indicates the
desired tax treatment the entity wishes to have. These new regulations signify what was a much
needed departure from the previous classification regulations, which were vague, ambiguous, and
created many disputes between taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This simplification
of the entity classification rules would make it easier for such entities to gain their desired tax
treatment, which allows those entities to focus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These new rules replace the Kintner test, which will be analyzed later in this paper. To fully
understand the effects that CTB rules have on entities tax rates, it is important to understand the
complexities of Regulation 301.7703.
Explanation of Regulation 301.7703 3
As previously mentioned, any business entity that is not required to be treated as a corporation may
choose its own classification. An entity may choose to have all of the beneficial characteristics as a
corporation, but to avoid double taxation, they may choose to be taxed as a partnership. An entity with
two or more members can be classified either as a partnership or as an association, which is taxed as a
corporation. An entity with only one member has an option to be taxed as a corporation or can choose
to be disregarded as an entity separate from its owner. That entity cannot choose partnership
classification because a partnership, by definition, has two or more partners. A disregarded entity is a
business entity with one owner that is not recognized for tax purposes as an entity separate from its
owner. Therefore, the taxpayer is treated as a sole proprietorship and the individual must report all
income and losses on their own tax return.
Foreign business organizations are categorized by default classifications and must elect to be taxed
differently on Form 8832, same as domestic entities. A foreign business entity where all owners have
limited liability will be treated as a

The Economic Benefits Of Economic Welfare Essay
Economic welfare is defined as the well being or standard of living of an individual or individuals
taking part in an economy (Business Dictionary, 2015). This can be measured through statistics such
as individual income, health care expense, educational achievement and opportunity for economic
growth. The better one fares among these categories, the more likely one is to have a higher standard
of living and possess an inherent socio economic advantage. Currently, the aboriginal population
scores poorly across all of these standards. Despite government incentives, the average indigenous
person is born into an economic disadvantage with little room for vertical movement, indicating a
need for major social and legislative change.
Among the aboriginal population in 2005, 18.7% of individuals living with family were below the
poverty line. Unattached, or single, individuals were even more likely to fall into this low income
bracket at 42.8%. Conversely, these rates among the non aboriginal population were 8.4% and 28.0%
respectively (Collin Jensen, 2009). These numbers highlight the economic disparity Aboriginals face,
the cause of which lies rooted in their historical mistreatment. To better understand the situation today
and how it came to be, one must begin by looking at early Canadian policy involving Aboriginals.
The first important document concerned with indigenous rights was the Royal Proclamation. Signed in
1763, it recognized the sovereignty of the aboriginal

Coal Lobbying
Envisage a world where only the twinkle of candlelight illuminates windows in the night, warmth is
provided by wood stoves, and horse drawn carriages provide transportation: a world without energy
provided by fossil fuels. One might think this is the world of our forefathers and of bygone days;
however, with staggering increases in energy demands perhaps such a world may not be so far from
reality if humanity fails to adapt to these changing needs and how we produce energy to meet global
energy requirements. There is no doubt that the greatest issues affecting humanity today are that of
pollution fueled climate change and energy insecurity (Jacobson and Delucchi 1154). A number of

The narrative of clean coal has been propped up by the industries primary lobbyist group, the National
Mining Association, with a budget of nearly twenty million dollars a year (Coniff). Lobbying is a
natural part of the political process, but the issue becomes when the lobbying is disingenuous and the
coal industry has zero intentions of implementing clean coal, based on the fact that no coal plants
currently in the United States make use of any of the technology. Although the technology is still
being developed, there are no future plans to implement it as well. On the other side, those who speak
out against coal and clean coal are naturally groups concerned about the environment, such as the
Environmental Protection Agency and green advocacy groups. They recognize that coal power plants
are the primary contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and thus their emissions
must be controlled (Eilperin and Mufson). They also believe even though limiting coal power plants
will cost a great deal of money, the American people will have a net benefit due to lower public health
costs as a result of air pollution while also benefitting globally by reducing greenhouse gas fueled
climate change. Essentially, clean coal is pursued by those who have a vested commercial interest in
its being as a mainstay of electricity generation, while those who oppose it are against the negative

Environmental Issues Affecting The Exploitation Of...
1 INTRODUCTION There is an increasing energy demands worldwide towards the exploitation of
renewable resources from agricultural and forest remnant. The major components of these remains are
cellulose, lignin and pectin. These materials have paid more interest as an alternative feedstock and
energy source, since they are abundantly obtainable. Large quantities of wastes are produced every
year from the industrial treatment of agricultural raw materials. Most of these wastes are used as
animal feed or burned as alternative for removal. However, such wastes usually have a composition
rich in sugars, minerals and proteins, and therefore, they should not be considered wastes but raw
materials for other industrial processes(Mussatto et al., 2012) (2). Using of residues from agro
industrial sources in bio processes has aroused the interest of the scientific community lately.
Ecological issues and concerns aimed to reducing pollution have boosted the search for clean
Technologies to be used in the production of commodities of importance to chemical, energy and food
industries. This idea makes use of alternative materials, requires less energy, and minimizes pollutants
in industrial effluents, as well as being more economically useful due to its reduced costs (Martins et
al., 2011) (1). Agro industrial wastes are at most composed of complex polysaccharides that might

Cuba as a damsel in distress, the U.S as her savior, and Spain as the villain. When the USS Maine
sunk in Havana Harbor, the Hurst newspapers with no evidence, blamed the Spanish, so Americans
believed that this was true and demanded to get back at Spain. Some historians today are convinced
that the Spanish American War was the first press driven war and that it fueled the public s passion for

atmosphere that is compelling to the viewers and convey the history of a created man. The scenes I

in his early past. You see his inventor deciding to build a man, you see him teaching Edward, you see

written by Jeanne DuPrau.
This book takes place all throughout America as Duff, the main character, drives from his hometown
to the other side of the country in California. Duff has recently been given a job offer in Silicon Valley.
Duff is ready to go and is willing to, his parents, on the other hand say that instead of diving straight
into a job, Duff should go to college instead. Duff argues that he will get paid a large amount of
money and will be working on something he loves. His parents give in and Duff sets off to drive
across America. Of course, for Duff, nothing goes as planned. After the first 100 or so miles, ... Show

This is because there were many things I thought were exceptional. However, like any book, some
elements of this book could have been better. A factor of this book that did well was characterizing
Duff the way he is. For example the author tells us It sounds like a bunch of machines screaming at
each other... I thought you said this was music . It is to me (DuPrau 77). Here we get a great sense that
Duff loves computers because of this detail that shows that Duff likes listening to computers for
music. Another great component of this book is that the author did a great job of describing in detail
the setting in this book. For example on page 119 Duff is eating lunch at an outdoor restaurant. The
author describes in much detail as she uses words like pinkish yellow haze and tingly smell . Because
of this, the readers are vividly able to imagine the setting with ease. On the other hand, there were also
some factors that were not as satisfying. One example of this is the fact that there is almost no action
in this book. Most of this book is just Duff driving around describing what he sees. The only action is
when the people are chasing his car. Another negative side of this book is that the rising action was
dragged on for too long. This caused the reader to get a little bit bored. Also, as a result the falling
action and resolution were not developed enough. This imbalance is plot structure is a big reason why

The Continuity Of Life Chapter 1 Summary
Chapter 9 The Continuity of Life: Cellular Reproduction Summary (184)
Reproduction is important for the survival of all living things. Without a mechanism for reproduction,
life would come to an end. There are two types of reproduction to learn in elementary grades, asexual
and sexual reproduction. Many teachers are afraid of discussing reproduction, but if presented as a
factual lesson it is easy for the students to understand the principles without the standard giggles.
Asexual reproduction refers to simple cell division that produces an exact duplicate of an organism.
There are many different types of asexual reproduction which can be discussed to show students the
variability of modes of reproduction. Some single celled organisms reproduce by simple cell division,
this is called binary fission. In this manner, the mother cell simply splits in half producing two
daughter cells. Some cells reproduce by unequal division of the cells, this is called budding. In this
process the bud forms as a knob on the mother cell. The nucleus divides and identical parts go to the
mother cell and the bud. The bud may grow until it is as large as the mother cell and can form buds of
its own. In some cases buds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world said by Nelson Madela is the
best quote to describe why children should be reading books about the LGBT community. The
positioning of the difficult topic in classrooms can be shown through the research done by Ohio State
University in high schools. By reading LGBT literature over time on a normal basis it normalized the
idea to the children. Education is important to all children, but the education on the LGBT community
is difficult to find in any community. Through reading different types of fiction teachers, parents, and
others can introduce and teach about the different life styles in our communities today.
In The New Goldilocks and the Tree Bears: Mama Bear, Mommy Bear, and Baby Bear the timeless
story is transformed to show how families can have different structures. Through reading the book the
first item that is can be clearly seen are the bright colorful illustrations. These illustrations attract the

The Factors Of Temperature Affects A Tenebrio Molitor s...
In this lab, an experiment was done in order to test how the abiotic factor of temperature affects a
Tenebrio molitor s activity level. Both experiments conducted consisted of two separate treatment
trials; one in a warm environment (25 degrees Celsius) and one in a relatively cold environment (14
degrees Celsius). Results obtained from these experiments both showed a higher level of T. molitor
activity in the warm environment as opposed to the cold environment where less activity occurred. In
this case, the activity level of a T. molitor was measured by distance travelled (cm) over one minute.
Prior to preforming the experiment, the prediction was made; An increase in environmental
temperature will lead to an increased activity level of T. molitor. This prediction was made based on
the knowledge of T. molitor being ectotherms. This is because temperature has been shown to have a
major effect on an ethotherms growth rate and development rate, with higher temperatures being
optimal conditions for both these to occur (Van Der Have et al. 1996).
Both experiments preformed showed the same trend of increased temperature leading to and increased
activity level, thus supporting our prediction. For instance, in experiment 1, T. molitor in the 25 C
moved a mean distance of 14.41 cm over 1 minute while moving a mean distance of 4.05 cm over 1
minute in an average environmental temperature of 13.8 C. Likewise, in experiment 2, T. molitor in
the 25 C environment moved a mean distance

A Good Job Of Creating A Solid Mystery
BAPTISM presents as a very engaging thriller that maintains the audience s interest from the opening
until the ending. While there are elements of the script to discuss for possible further development and
clarification, the script does a good job of creating a solid mystery. The script is driven by solid
themes about abandonment, belonging, rejection, and acceptance.
The opening sequence on the bridge easily captivates the audience. The images and action on the
bridge, combined with the haunting church song, Wade in the water creates a solid chilling and
melancholy pitch. The idea of water also becomes very symbolic. The audience is hooked.
The first act also does a good job of establishing the protagonist s ordinary world. One gets ... Show

The idea that somehow the killings are all connected to Kevin is a subtle hint and clue that it has to be
someone close to him. The irony being that Kevin saved Fay s life, only for her to become obsessed
with him, and eventually she takes the lives of others. The planting of Fay wearing a crucifix is
another nice hint. Another interesting clue is the idea that Fay breaks into Kevin s room, not to search
for evidence, but because of her obsession. It looks like one thing, only to realize that her actions
mean something else. In fact, when Barb says, Haven t seen you in a while, it initially confuses the
audience until the reveal.
The script offers a good red herring in David. He works well as the off balanced and disturbed father
desperate to find his daughter. The audience comes to wonder if he could be the killer.
With this said, there are areas of the script that are worth discussing for possible further development
and clarification.
First, the idea that there s a police officer or detective involved with one of the victims feel under
developed or just left dangling. It s another red herring, but there should be some type of payoff for
this.
One has to assume that the evidence in the basement of David s home is just part of his obsession,
perhaps this can be clarified.
The feature of the script that does not feel credible is the news reporter and their dialogue. Specially

Sociological Issues In Children Of Men
To what extent does Children Of Men(2007), by Alfonso Cuarón, reflect the political/sociological
issues at the time of it s release?
Children Of Men was released in 2007, during the global state of paranoia following the September
11th attack on the World Trade Center, an event that triggered numerous scandals under the Bush
Administration s new military campaign; the War On Terror. This campaign was the government s
hasty response to the terrorist acts of 2001 as part of an attempt to calm the shocked civilian attitude
after September 11th attack on the World Trade Center, but actually resulted in a paranoid public
attitude towards the U.S government.

Released in 2007, in a decade ruled by societal paranoia concerning the U.S government, the film
expresses the future that people feared 2007 was leading into. With governmental authority corrupted
by a xenophobic attitude caused by terrorism that has resulted in a anti immigration sentiment across
Britain, escalated to the point that the world is in utter chaos with numerous problems, it is easy to see
the fingers the film makers were pointing. In sci fi, it is not uncommon to see directors playing upon
people s hopes and fears of the future and portraying them in an exaggerated format, creating a world
that looks uncomfortably familiar to our own. I think this may be the reason for the severe lack of
technological, scientific or alien reference that one would expect to see in a typical sci fi; in keeping
the world of Children Of Men underwhelmingly advanced, it uses realism to hit home the idea of a
dystopian future in 2027. People were more likely to act upon the prophecy Children Of Man held if
they could see that it was personally applicable to their own future. I think advanced technology and
aliens, apart from having ruined the relatable feeling of 2027 Children Of Men has, would have
distracted the audience and dragged the film into more of a fantasy sub genre, disrupting the clever
use of sci fi

How Does Kawabata Use Shame In Thousand Cranes
In Kawabata s Thousand Cranes, identity becomes inescapable and transiently shared across
generations and people, rather than belonging uniquely to individuals. The lingering presence of Mr.
Mitani after his death reminds Kikuji of all the moral inadequacies Mitani possessed. As he begins to
exhibit these inadequacies himself, Kikuji attempts to hide his imperfections by intoxicating himself
and engaging in lustful affairs, but ultimately the cycle of shame continues. Ignoring or hiding from
the world is not a sufficient escape from the shame associated with one s identity. I will argue that
Kawabata uses the art of subtle cues in order to convey that shame can be transferred, and shame must
be confronted directly to overcome vulnerabilities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identity is connected to the shame of a character because they continuously repeat the cycle of
disgraceful actions like their predecessors. The identity determines what shameful act a character will
engage in, and whether they will acknowledge or ignore their shame. To examine parallelisms of
behavioral patterns within the characters, the Ota women must be compared to the Mitani men. The
sins of the father become the sins of the son when Mrs. Ota pursues Kikuji in an attempt to relive the
past (33). Mitani and Kikuji both focus on their pleasures more than their obligations to society,
likewise they both have affairs with Ota women as a sexual outlet to fulfill their pleasures, and never
acknowledge their affairs as shameful. Rather than becoming overcome with guilt from unfulfilled
obligations to society, the Mitani men become charmed by the bodily and emotional warmth of Mrs.
Ota (33). Their dismissal of shame functions to strengthen their carnal desires towards the Ota women.
The Ota women differ from the Mitani men in how they respond to shameful acts, consequently they
are overcome with their shame to the point it consumes them. Both Ota women crumble from the idea
that they are preventing Kikuji from marrying

genuine, moral and character based leaders. ( (Bill George, 2016). Authentic leaders are always true to

will demonstrate them, and expect or imply that others will follow. According to Bill George of

Essay Analysis of Daddy by Sylvia Plath
Analysis of Daddy by Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath uses her poem, Daddy, to express deep emotions toward her father s life and death. With
passionate articulation, she verbally turns over her feelings of rage, abandonment, confusion and grief.
Though this work is fraught with ambiguity, a reader can infer Plath s basic story. Her father was
apparently a Nazi soldier killed in World War II while she was young. Her statements about not
knowing even remotely where he was while he was in battle, the only photograph she has left of him
and how she chose to marry a man that reminded her of him elude to her grief in losing her father and
missing his presence. She also expresses a dark anger toward him for his political views and actions ...

She also presents a slight rhythm to the reading that allows for smooth reading. In keeping with her
open form, there is no set scheme to the rhyme pattern. However, there is a single ending sound
constantly repeated without a set pattern throughout the work. She also connects pairs of lines at
random just for the sake of making connections to make that particular stanza flow. At the same time,
she chose blatantly not to rhyme in certain parts to catch the reader s attention.
There are a few instances where imagery is used to carry out Plath s expression. To cite a particular
example that might lead a reader deduce their own ideas can be found in the last stanza: And the
villagers never liked you. / They are dancing and stamping on you. This undoubtedly expresses her
father s death and burial but more importantly it states a certain humiliation she faced from everyone
knowing what her father had died for, along with her own rage toward him. Another can be found in
lines 24 25: I never could talk to you. / The tongue stuck in my jaw. The picture of someone being
tongue tied along with her statement in line 41: I have always been scared of you, demonstrate just
that; she was fearful of her father. She also gives an image that provides the reader a view of how
Plath physically viewed her father and chose a man that she states reminds her of him: A man in black
with a Meinkampf look.

In the story Hamlet there are two characters who loves Ophelia but in their own way. There s an event
in the beginning of the story where Hamlet shows his love and affections to his love Ophelia.
However, the two characters Laertes (brother) and Polonius (father) react to the situation differently.
Polonius orders her to stay away and do as he says while Laertes advises Ophelia about men and
Hamlet. From the choices the these character chose reveal how much they truly value dearest Ophelia.
Therefore, I believe polonius loves Ophelia more than Laertes. In Act 1, Polonius is explaining those

  • 2. Structural Functionalism And Family Analysis Structural Functionalism is a theory in sociology which states that each part of society is necessary for the functioning of the social organism. There are several elements in the functionalist paradigm which explain how society functions in order to maintain the social organism and keep it alive. These elements of functionalisms are cohesion, integration, solidarity, and equilibrium. These elements explain how society is divided into different functional parts, with each part depending on the next adding up to the structural whole of society. Under the structural functional paradigm we see the family structure which is viewed as a small social group which is related by blood Ancestor or affection. The family is viewed mainly as the nuclear family as in mother, father, and children although the family structure had changed over time with the extended family, single parent families and on word. The family structure s main functions are reproduction, education, and the economy. Without these functions society on a whole would not exist. In the case of education we place women in the role of raising, nurturing, and educating the children with in the home instilling values and norms while the father figure took on the role of being the financial provider, and providing security for the family. The family structure plays a very important role as through reproduction the replace members, who have dies, Socialization where they educate children on norms and values and how to carry themselves out in society as functional individuals providing emotional, psychological and physical care for family members. • 3. Spirituality Essay Spirituality can have many different definitions, depending on who is asked. It can be something as simple as looking for a higher meaning to life, or something so complex that one can base their beliefs, religion and overall life around it. There are several different ways to express one s spirituality; rituals, songs, dances, stories, and writings are all common methods of expression. Spirituality can be found in almost anything. Finding spirituality in something can make someone feel enlightened and bring strong emotion and deep feeling. In some cases, people would be willing to sacrifice nearly anything to help maintain the integrity of what they find to be spiritual. The earth is found in many cultures to be regarded as highly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their spirituality is heavily influenced by nature. David Suzuki may very well be the most popular scientist in all of Canada. In his book The Sacred Balance, Suzuki discusses his view that people and the earth are all made of the same things and therefore we both need the same elements to survive: earth, air, fire and water. For humans to lead rich lives, Suzuki also adds love and spirit to the list. In the introduction to The Sacred Balance, Suzuki interviews a Haida Gwaii artist named Guujaaw about the battle over clear cut logging in his native Queen Charlotte Islands. Although the logging industry in the islands generated several much needed jobs, many of the Haida were opposed to it. Guujaaw stated that after the trees were all gone, his people would be just like everybody else, and they would not be Haida anymore. The fact that somebody would feel so connected with the trees, to include them in their identity proves that spirituality can be found in nature. For Gujarat s people the trees, the birds, the fish, the water, the wind are all parts of the Haida identity. Their land, and everything on it, means so much to the Haida people that they would be willing to sacrifice jobs and economy to keep the integrity of their culture, history, and the land that is all a part of their identity. • 4. The Effects of Traumatic Brain Injury Essay I. Introduction The focus of this study was to examine the effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in children and adolescents on prospective memory. The purpose of the study was to add to the scant research on the effects of TBI on prospective memory in children and adolescents. The authors were also interested in adding support to the existing theory that the prefrontal areas of the brain meditate prospective memory. (Ward et al., 2005) The authors were, for the purposes of this study, assuming that the brain s prefrontal regions are involved in prospective memory. The authors theorized that younger children, with or without TBI, whose prefrontal regions are not fully developed, should perform poorly on prospective tasks. It was also ... The lower level demand version of the task used longer words, and the higher level version used shorter words. The participants were also shown italic letters, 12 total, within some of the words and non words presented to them, which are the prospective memory cues. Participants were told to press the 6th key, in a row of grey keys, when they saw an italic letter appear. The participants were also tested with the following tasks to observe executive functioning capabilities: Self Ordered Pointing Task (SOPT), Stroop Color Word Inference Task, and Tower of London (TOL). Responses were collected and data was created on each of the four groups (children and adolescents with and without TBI), showing correct responses for both the high and low cognitive demand levels of the task. The results of the study showed several outcomes. First, that in both groups lexical decision accuracies were higher in low demand cognitive conditions than in the high conditions. Overall, those with TBI had lower overall prospective memory scores than the participants in the control groups. In addition to this, adolescents performed better than the children. However, as the cognitive demand of the tasks increased, there was a larger gap in performance between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Critical Appreciation Of Judith Decapitating Holofernes From Whitney Chadwick third edition of Women, Art, and Society, the piece of artwork that engaged me deeply from this book is the 17th Century Italian Baroque painting Judith Decapitating Holofernes c. 1618 by Italian artist Artemisia Gentileschi. This painting is oil on canvas painting in the style of classical Italian Baroque characteristics of chiaroscuro, dramatic realism, naturalistic, and rich vivid colors. What I see physically at first from the painting is at the center of the work a violent action is being played out by two young women using a sword to behead a man s head while he s in bed. I can see the arm strength of Judith and her maidservant in the way they re holding the man down to keep him still while their killing him and in the way the artist arranges the women s arms. I also see the amazement, terror, and vulnerability Holofernes is feeling by the way Artemisia painted in such detail in the look in his unnaturally wide eyes due to shock, his mouth is open like he s either screaming for help or in pain, and how his body is contorted in an uncomfortable arrangement almost like he s trying to get up to stop this assault. What mostly draws me and holds my attention to this painting is the raw intensified emotion Artemisia can show of the three characters in this dramatic climatic scene, how theatrical she is with the blood when Judith cuts into Holofernes neck, raw emotions, and how to me other paintings seem so tame compared to Artemisia Judith. • 7. The Myth Of Prometheus And The Garden Of Eden How can there be similar themes in different books? Themes can be found in every story. If one says ignorance is bliss, or spirituality vs. science, these are all themes. Correspondingly, acceptance is a theme that has always been used. However, this word has not only been used for texts it has been used everywhere, from books to relations to even movies. To put it differently, ambition is getting what you want, this is seen often in stories. This word makes people think what their needs are and what their wants are. Furthermore, themes are generally made when you feel like you have seen the movie or read that book, however you have just watched the movie which has similar themes in it. There are many themes in one story. The themes of spirituality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She opened the lid a very little, just to peep in side. The knowledge that doodle and my plans had come to naught was bitter, and that streak of cruelty within me awakened. • 8. Refugee Controversy The estimated number of refugees since World War II is one hundred million ( Refugee ). Supporting and solving today s refugee crisis is especially controversial because of the current events, financing, and security issues. A refugee is a person who has left their country because of fear of their safety due to violence, race, religion, or war ( Refugee Facts ). Climate change and natural disasters sometimes cause people to leave their homes or countries. Some examples of these natural disasters are floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and mudslides. These do not qualify as a reason to be a refuge ( Refugees ). Refugees leave their country and move to another country and ask for asylum which provides protection and assistance as a confirmed refugee. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In December 2015 Donald Trump argued that Muslim refugees should not be accepted into the U.S. until the vetting process can be improved to reduce security risks. Representative Peter King also believes that the process of checking refugees is not good enough. The process does not provide enough information to tell if a refugee is a terrorist or will become one ( Refugee Crisis ). In June 2015, Representative Michael McCaul said that terrorists are sneaking into the United States through the refugee process, and the United States should protect its citizens first ( Refugee Crisis ). Between 2001 and 2015, three of 850,000 refugees were convicted of terrorist attacks (Landon, Shanti.). Vetting refugees from Middle Eastern countries at war is not effective because criminal and terrorist records are not updated in these countries (Landon, Shanti) Other people believe the exact opposite is true. For instance, David Bier is the Director of Immigration Policy at Niskanen Center in Washington D.C. He wrote in his blog that refugees that flee from ISIS violence should continue to be welcomed into the U.S. because of the welfare of those people and for security reasons. Patrick Eddington, a prior CIA officer, said that Syrian refugees know a lot about ISIS, and they can give the United States information about ISIS. Some ISIS information has already been leaked by the Syrians to help the United States defeat them (Bier, David). Some people argue that besides a security threat, refugees also threaten the cultural ways of the country. In September 2015, the Politico reported that Bernard Monot of the European Parliament feared that the culture of France would change because Muslim refugees would bring in more children and more influence ( Refugee ... • 9. Conflict Between Joseph And His Brothers One of the inherent conflicts in the story of Joseph is the tension between Joseph and his brothers. The tension between them is caused by both Jacob and Joseph. First, Jacob shows favoritism toward Joseph, because he is the son of his favorite wife Rachel. Second, Joseph brings back bad reports when he is out pasturing with his brothers. However, what truly increased the hatred and jealousy was the Joseph s dreams. The author notes that when Joseph recounts the dreams, they hated him even more (Gen. 37:8). Their jealousy for Joseph is strong enough that they are willing to murder him. However, they decide to instead sell him into slavery, and convince Jacob that he was killed. A greater conflict is later revealed later in the story. Joseph is brought before Pharaoh to interpret his dream, and he reveals that after seven years of plenty, a severe famine will engulf the land so that the seven years of plenty will be forgotten. In order to prepare for the famine, Pharaoh must appoint someone to oversee the storing and rationing of the food in Egypt. Since Joseph interpreted the dream that the magicians and wisemen of Egypt could not, Pharaoh made Joseph second in command over all of Egypt. Through Joseph Egypt is well prepared for the famine. These two main conflicts are interdependent in the Story of Joseph. Without the tension between Joseph and his brothers, Joseph would have never been able to interpret Pharaoh s dream, and Egypt (and Joseph s family) would have not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These rules have become known as the check the box regulations. Simply put, these regulations allow an eligible entity to check a box that indicates the desired tax treatment the entity wishes to have. These new regulations signify what was a much needed departure from the previous classification regulations, which were vague, ambiguous, and created many disputes between taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This simplification of the entity classification rules would make it easier for such entities to gain their desired tax treatment, which allows those entities to focus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These new rules replace the Kintner test, which will be analyzed later in this paper. To fully understand the effects that CTB rules have on entities tax rates, it is important to understand the complexities of Regulation 301.7703. Explanation of Regulation 301.7703 3 As previously mentioned, any business entity that is not required to be treated as a corporation may choose its own classification. An entity may choose to have all of the beneficial characteristics as a corporation, but to avoid double taxation, they may choose to be taxed as a partnership. An entity with two or more members can be classified either as a partnership or as an association, which is taxed as a corporation. An entity with only one member has an option to be taxed as a corporation or can choose to be disregarded as an entity separate from its owner. That entity cannot choose partnership classification because a partnership, by definition, has two or more partners. A disregarded entity is a business entity with one owner that is not recognized for tax purposes as an entity separate from its owner. Therefore, the taxpayer is treated as a sole proprietorship and the individual must report all income and losses on their own tax return. Foreign business organizations are categorized by default classifications and must elect to be taxed differently on Form 8832, same as domestic entities. • 11. The Economic Benefits Of Economic Welfare Essay Economic welfare is defined as the well being or standard of living of an individual or individuals taking part in an economy (Business Dictionary, 2015). This can be measured through statistics such as individual income, health care expense, educational achievement and opportunity for economic growth. The better one fares among these categories, the more likely one is to have a higher standard of living and possess an inherent socio economic advantage. Currently, the aboriginal population scores poorly across all of these standards. Despite government incentives, the average indigenous person is born into an economic disadvantage with little room for vertical movement, indicating a need for major social and legislative change. Among the aboriginal population in 2005, 18.7% of individuals living with family were below the poverty line. Unattached, or single, individuals were even more likely to fall into this low income bracket at 42.8%. Conversely, these rates among the non aboriginal population were 8.4% and 28.0% respectively (Collin Jensen, 2009). These numbers highlight the economic disparity Aboriginals face, the cause of which lies rooted in their historical mistreatment. To better understand the situation today and how it came to be, one must begin by looking at early Canadian policy involving Aboriginals. The first important document concerned with indigenous rights was the Royal Proclamation. Signed in 1763, it recognized the sovereignty of the aboriginal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coal Lobbying Envisage a world where only the twinkle of candlelight illuminates windows in the night, warmth is provided by wood stoves, and horse drawn carriages provide transportation: a world without energy provided by fossil fuels. One might think this is the world of our forefathers and of bygone days; however, with staggering increases in energy demands perhaps such a world may not be so far from reality if humanity fails to adapt to these changing needs and how we produce energy to meet global energy requirements. There is no doubt that the greatest issues affecting humanity today are that of pollution fueled climate change and energy insecurity (Jacobson and Delucchi 1154). The narrative of clean coal has been propped up by the industries primary lobbyist group, the National Mining Association, with a budget of nearly twenty million dollars a year (Coniff). Lobbying is a natural part of the political process, but the issue becomes when the lobbying is disingenuous and the coal industry has zero intentions of implementing clean coal, based on the fact that no coal plants currently in the United States make use of any of the technology. Although the technology is still being developed, there are no future plans to implement it as well. On the other side, those who speak out against coal and clean coal are naturally groups concerned about the environment, such as the Environmental Protection Agency and green advocacy groups. They recognize that coal power plants are the primary contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and thus their emissions must be controlled (Eilperin and Mufson). They also believe even though limiting coal power plants will cost a great deal of money, the American people will have a net benefit due to lower public health costs as a result of air pollution while also benefitting globally by reducing greenhouse gas fueled climate change. Essentially, clean coal is pursued by those who have a vested commercial interest in its being as a mainstay of electricity generation, while those who oppose it are against the negative health and climate effects it ... Environmental Issues Affecting The Exploitation Of... 1 INTRODUCTION There is an increasing energy demands worldwide towards the exploitation of renewable resources from agricultural and forest remnant. The major components of these remains are cellulose, lignin and pectin. These materials have paid more interest as an alternative feedstock and energy source, since they are abundantly obtainable. Large quantities of wastes are produced every year from the industrial treatment of agricultural raw materials. Most of these wastes are used as animal feed or burned as alternative for removal. However, such wastes usually have a composition rich in sugars, minerals and proteins, and therefore, they should not be considered wastes but raw materials for other industrial processes(Mussatto et al., 2012) (2). Using of residues from agro industrial sources in bio processes has aroused the interest of the scientific community lately. Ecological issues and concerns aimed to reducing pollution have boosted the search for clean Technologies to be used in the production of commodities of importance to chemical, energy and food industries. This idea makes use of alternative materials, requires less energy, and minimizes pollutants in industrial effluents, as well as being more economically useful due to its reduced costs (Martins et al., 2011) (1). Agro industrial wastes are at most composed of complex polysaccharides that might serve as nutrients for microbial growth and production of enzymes, several microorganisms are capable of using ... Here we get a great sense that Duff loves computers because of this detail that shows that Duff likes listening to computers for music. Another great component of this book is that the author did a great job of describing in detail the setting in this book. For example on page 119 Duff is eating lunch at an outdoor restaurant. The author describes in much detail as she uses words like pinkish yellow haze and tingly smell . Because of this, the readers are vividly able to imagine the setting with ease. On the other hand, there were also some factors that were not as satisfying. One example of this is the fact that there is almost no action in this book. Most of this book is just Duff driving around describing what he sees. The only action is when the people are chasing his car. Without a mechanism for reproduction, life would come to an end. There are two types of reproduction to learn in elementary grades, asexual and sexual reproduction. Many teachers are afraid of discussing reproduction, but if presented as a factual lesson it is easy for the students to understand the principles without the standard giggles. Asexual reproduction refers to simple cell division that produces an exact duplicate of an organism. There are many different types of asexual reproduction which can be discussed to show students the variability of modes of reproduction. Some single celled organisms reproduce by simple cell division, this is called binary fission. In this manner, the mother cell simply splits in half producing two daughter cells. Some cells reproduce by unequal division of the cells, this is called budding. In this process the bud forms as a knob on the mother cell. The nucleus divides and identical parts go to the mother cell and the bud. The bud may grow until it is as large as the mother cell and can form buds of its own. In some cases buds ... In this lab, an experiment was done in order to test how the abiotic factor of temperature affects a Tenebrio molitor s activity level. Both experiments conducted consisted of two separate treatment trials; one in a warm environment (25 degrees Celsius) and one in a relatively cold environment (14 degrees Celsius). Results obtained from these experiments both showed a higher level of T. molitor activity in the warm environment as opposed to the cold environment where less activity occurred. In this case, the activity level of a T. molitor was measured by distance travelled (cm) over one minute. Prior to preforming the experiment, the prediction was made; An increase in environmental temperature will lead to an increased activity level of T. molitor. This prediction was made based on the knowledge of T. molitor being ectotherms. This is because temperature has been shown to have a major effect on an ethotherms growth rate and development rate, with higher temperatures being optimal conditions for both these to occur (Van Der Have et al. 1996). Both experiments preformed showed the same trend of increased temperature leading to and increased activity level, thus supporting our prediction. For instance, in experiment 1, T. molitor in the 25 C moved a mean distance of 14.41 cm over 1 minute while moving a mean distance of 4.05 cm over 1 minute in an average environmental temperature of 13.8 C. The sins of the father become the sins of the son when Mrs. Ota pursues Kikuji in an attempt to relive the past (33). Mitani and Kikuji both focus on their pleasures more than their obligations to society, likewise they both have affairs with Ota women as a sexual outlet to fulfill their pleasures, and never acknowledge their affairs as shameful. Rather than becoming overcome with guilt from unfulfilled obligations to society, the Mitani men become charmed by the bodily and emotional warmth of Mrs. Ota (33). • 31. Essay Analysis of Daddy by Sylvia Plath Analysis of Daddy by Sylvia Plath Sylvia Plath uses her poem, Daddy, to express deep emotions toward her father s life and death. With passionate articulation, she verbally turns over her feelings of rage, abandonment, confusion and grief. Though this work is fraught with ambiguity, a reader can infer Plath s basic story. Her father was apparently a Nazi soldier killed in World War II while she was young. Her statements about not knowing even remotely where he was while he was in battle, the only photograph she has left of him and how she chose to marry a man that reminded her of him elude to her grief in losing her father and missing his presence. She also expresses a dark anger toward him for his political views and actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also presents a slight rhythm to the reading that allows for smooth reading. In keeping with her open form, there is no set scheme to the rhyme pattern. However, there is a single ending sound constantly repeated without a set pattern throughout the work. She also connects pairs of lines at random just for the sake of making connections to make that particular stanza flow. At the same time, she chose blatantly not to rhyme in certain parts to catch the reader s attention. There are a few instances where imagery is used to carry out Plath s expression. To cite a particular example that might lead a reader deduce their own ideas can be found in the last stanza: And the villagers never liked you. / They are dancing and stamping on you. This undoubtedly expresses her father s death and burial but more importantly it states a certain humiliation she faced from everyone knowing what her father had died for, along with her own rage toward him. Another can be found in lines 24 25: I never could talk to you. / The tongue stuck in my jaw. The picture of someone being tongue tied along with her statement in line 41: I have always been scared of you, demonstrate just that; she was fearful of her father. She also gives an image that provides the reader a view of how Plath physically viewed her father and chose a man that she states reminds her of him: A man in black with a Meinkampf look. ...
