Lighting and all of the various camera angles combine with color and costume and music to create an
atmosphere that is compelling to the viewers and convey the history of a created man. The scenes I
selected on YouTube begin as he lies in Kim s bed in town and dissolve as he remembers how life was
in his early past. You see his inventor deciding to build a man, you see him teaching Edward, you see
his final gift to Edward before dying and leaving him alone, and you see Edward with Kim. The time
involved is 6.10 minutes. Throughout the film there is use of lighting and mise en scene to build the
audience reaction to what they see.
Tim Burton uses lighting, differing camera angles and music to contrast fantasy with reality and show
the strength of the characters. Burton uses lighting to show fantasy and reality in all of his movies.
In the film high key lighting represents regular humans. The lighting in town such as in Kim s room
has vibrant colors and uses high key lighting. The color is used to show the contrast of humanity and

For my Realistic Fiction Book Talk assignment I have read the realistic fiction book Car Trouble
written by Jeanne DuPrau.
This book takes place all throughout America as Duff, the main character, drives from his hometown
to the other side of the country in California. Duff has recently been given a job offer in Silicon Valley.
Duff is ready to go and is willing to, his parents, on the other hand say that instead of diving straight
into a job, Duff should go to college instead. Duff argues that he will get paid a large amount of
money and will be working on something he loves. His parents give in and Duff sets off to drive

This is because there were many things I thought were exceptional. However, like any book, some
elements of this book could have been better. A factor of this book that did well was characterizing
Duff the way he is. For example the author tells us It sounds like a bunch of machines screaming at

Duff loves computers because of this detail that shows that Duff likes listening to computers for
music. Another great component of this book is that the author did a great job of describing in detail

author describes in much detail as she uses words like pinkish yellow haze and tingly smell . Because
of this, the readers are vividly able to imagine the setting with ease. On the other hand, there were also
some factors that were not as satisfying. One example of this is the fact that there is almost no action
in this book. Most of this book is just Duff driving around describing what he sees. The only action is
when the people are chasing his car. Another negative side of this book is that the rising action was

The idea that somehow the killings are all connected to Kevin is a subtle hint and clue that it has to be
someone close to him. The irony being that Kevin saved Fay s life, only for her to become obsessed
with him, and eventually she takes the lives of others. The planting of Fay wearing a crucifix is
another nice hint. Another interesting clue is the idea that Fay breaks into Kevin s room, not to search
for evidence, but because of her obsession. It looks like one thing, only to realize that her actions

developed or just left dangling. It s another red herring, but there should be some type of payoff for
this.
