Herman Melville Research Paper

American Literature
Herman Melville Progress is key to living life, but if one is advancing through life with the motivation
of revenge, then, in actuality, he or she is truly regressing. Revenge is an extremely corruptive trait. It
causes people to do uncharacteristic things that normally would not be done. The perception of right
and wrong is blurred and one takes inadvertent actions that may cost friendships, possessions, and
even lives. Revenge is often a major motivating factor in the characters that are in the works written
during the Dark Romanticism period. One of the most celebrated and influential American authors in
history, Herman Melville, was born on August 1, 1819; his reputation was not quite ... Show more

On September 28, 1891 just after midnight, Melville suffered a heart attack and died, leaving Billy
Budd in manuscript (Rollyson xxiv). Billy Budd was published posthumously. Moby Dick is
considered to be one of, if not the, best novels in American history. Harper amp; Brothers first
published it in 1851 in New York. In England, it was published in the same year under the title, The
Whale ( Moby Dick ). Melville explores topics and themes that were scarcely spoken of and never
even seen in a novel. In the novel, the Pequod, which is the ship, is named after a Native American
tribe that was exterminated when the white settlers arrived. It is a symbol of death and doom and
foreshadows event that occur later in the novel. Melville brings some very controversial themes to
light in the novel. Revenge is one of the main themes of Dark Romanticism and Melville uses it to
drive every action taken by Ahab. This is seen early on in the novel as Ahab explains to the crew why
he has a peg leg and that he wants to enact his revenge on Moby Dick (Melville 160 161). Moby Dick
is, fundamentally, a revenge tragedy. It s about one man s maniacal obsession with vengeance. It s
about finding an object on which to pin all you anger and fear and rage, not only about your own
suffering, but also about the suffering of all mankind ( Moby

Evaluation Of The Chicago Maternity Center
If a sweeping pestilence struck down as many women in a community as are taken in childbirth we
would immediately be aroused, claimed Beatrice E. Tucker, Director and Associate Obstetrician of
The Chicago Maternity Center. Beatrice was determined to helped needed women, in a needed
community, in Chicago. (Tucker, Beatrice E., and Harry B. Benaron, 1) The Chicago Maternity Center
was founded in 1895, by Dr. Joseph DeLee. However, it was led and directed by Dr. Beatrice Tucker,
accompanied by her partner Dr. Harry Benaron. The center was opened from 1932 until 1973. The
center provided free obstetrical care for poor women while at the same time helping doctors train for
the latest methods to as well provide safe delivery for these women (Simpson, 1). The center wasn t
such a famous hospital or clinic as the time. It also wasn t located by means of a medical school, such
as the University of Chicago. Instead, the Chicago Maternity Center was located at 1334 South
Newberry Street, centered at Chicago s West Side. The reason for this was because, when Beatrice
Tucker became the Chicago Maternity Center s leader, the community was trapped as a desperate poor
immigrant working class (Simpson, 1). Therefore, the center had two purposes. The first, was to care
for and treat poor women, in childbirth, right at their homes. Second, was to teach doctors, medical
students, and nurses the science and art of obstetrics (Tucker, Beatrice E., and Harry B. Benaron, 1).

Analysis Of No I Do Not Want To Pet Your Dog By Farhad Manjoo
In the article No, I Do Not Want to Pet Your dog, by Farhad Manjoo, the author deeply expresses his
negative opinion towards dogs and their oblivious owners who believe that everyone s a dog lover.
The overall theme of the essay illustrates the lack of responsibility for dog owners have for their pets
as they run ramped through dog free zones. Manjoo deeply expresses his opinion, although lacks some
key supporting points and formulates mostly upon personal bias. With that in mind, I strongly disagree
with the author and believe that his main points does not accurately portray the issue related to dogs.
...........
To begin with, Manjoo s arguments against dogs and their owners don t appear logical and rather
sound more as a rant in attempt to get his point across. More specifically, I found Manjoo s arguments
rather abrupt towards the beginning while he stated his one sided opinion, rather than considering and
addressing those who many disagree with him. In doing so, Manjoo may have attracted a portion of
the audience of who agrees with him, while he only repels those with a neutral or positive view
towards dogs, with his negative and irrational tone. For instance, when Manjoo stated No explanation
was offered for the pooch s presence, as if it were the most natural thing in the world to have a dog in
a place usually reserved for human beings. Huh, I thought (224). In his claim, Manjoo comments that
dogs are found in places usually reserved by humans, the word

This Is My Life
Observed for the first time at The Wick with Josh Mayer (Call Me Lemon), Born Wisdom has been
planting his feet everywhere from Shady Katie s to First State Lounge in Philadelphia. Wisdom has
been featured before and hits the leading spot again.
In each song, Wisdom declared he shares about himself, his experiences and his life as it is today. In
his first song This Is My Life , the lyrics delivered in a sort of spoken word form looked into the type
of person he used to be, sharing personal trials and tribulations. As he spoke with his voice, body and
hands, he conveyed thoughtful expression and various emotions. Usually accompanied by Josh Mayer
and his acoustic guitar, a light band and his friend Nikia Comfort offered a change of pace. Comfort
added a complimenting female essence to Wisdom s performance. In a flurry of alternated verses, the
duo touched not just on Wisdom s life, but issues of today, the generic stereotype of Hip Hop culture
and being a woman in a man s world . However, not all the songs were so intense and thought
provoking as Wisdom dedicated a song to his love and soon to be Wisdom child. ... Show more

They tossed out a melody and for a moment Wisdom moves himself to the rhythm finding a niche and
working it out in his mind. His feeature ended on a positive track, Every Problem Comes Only Today .
It was a simple song with wholesome lyrics carried only by acoustic guitar and Harmonica. For
example, Every problem comes only today. There s always tomorrow, today is just a test. Wisdom
offers just that in most of his music mixed with unchaotic and smooth verses. The amount of on the
spot creativity showed that he takes a challenge, embraces it and tosses something new out every time.
In the future, perhaps Born Wisdom will headline of his own shows. A CD would be nice to have in
my hands, however I feel that may restrict Wisdom in a way. Maybe

Super Bowl In Houston Essay
The first professional American football championship, also known as Super Bowl I, was played
January 15, 1967. While Super Bowl I had an attendance of 62,000, Super Bowl XVII had the highest
attendance of 103,667. Super Bowl LI in Houston had an attendance of 70,807. Including, the Super
Bowl attendance and the two full weeks of events, Houston expected 140,000 out of town visitors, 1
million people to attend some type of Super Bowl event, and an estimated profit of 350 million
dollars, according to Super Bowl 51: By the Numbers.

Mr. Douglas Murrow Case Paper
Mr. Douglas Murrow Based on the information presented in the case of 39 year old Douglas Murrow,
he has been charged with criminal infractions consisting of breaking and entering his parent s home in
the middle of the night, as well as physically assaulting them. Murrow constantly theorizes about a
conspiracy plot against him and has consistently displayed episodes of paranoid, delusional behavior.
Murrow s erratic behavior is marked by the belief that his parents are conspiring with his doctor to
force him to take psychopharmaceuticals. The delusional ideation is amplified by Murrow s insistence
that his parents are entering into his apartment at night to torture him while he is asleep (Laureate

Murrow s eccentric fantasies persistently clouds his grasp of reality; creating a substantial hindrance
in the progress of the case and competency to decipher the difference between right and wrong.
Murrow s irrational actions and delusional ideation places him in a position of danger to others, as
well as himself, especially if the case results in a prison sentence. As such, the competency assessment
should successfully yield a diagnosis for Paranoid Personality Disorder (PPD) since Murrow meets all
seven of the diagnostic criteria. Utilizing the Interdisciplinary Fitness Interview (IFI), Murrow s
delusions (e.g. tainted milk and juice and episodes of torture by the hands of his parents) are likely to
surface well after the assessment is complete. The revised Fitness Interview Test (FIT R) should also
prove Murrow unfit to stand trial (Slobogin, Hafemeister, Mossman, Reisner, 2014; Greene Heilbrun,

ABSTRACT
In April 2013, Kassatly Chtaura, a family owned company of both alcoholic and non alcoholic

Undoubtedly, one of the advantages that Kassatly Chtaura has, is how they shape their strategy,
implement new drinks according to market trends and its innovative position in alcoholic and non

production. The same laws have specified restrictions on alcohol and energy drinks, and that s where
Kassatly Chtaura could find the right time to launch its various products in Lebanon and in turn be
related to Saudi Arabia, which provides an advantage to position itself in the group GCC in the Middle
East. However, the tension is handled in the country of Lebanon and in the closest countries. Is a rapid
change that may arise from the overnight, so achieving manufacturing in another country where it is
not fully understood the culture, the rules and laws governing, is a risk that can be significant in the
formation of an expansion in Saudi Arabia or in Africa as an emerging market that is growing

Kassatly Chtaura is a company that has taken advantage of the situation, resources and the regions
where they can make some investment to prop up the finances and not fall into a low development of
innovation in the products they handle. Implementation of vodka, energy drinks and even some
alignment with the wines have kept the name Kassatly Chtaura outside the Lebanese community, and
internationally, they have achieved some recognition.

Intellectual Property refers to all the intangible creations of the human mind, from scientific

Reseach on the Impact of Religion Bias on Performance...
1. Introduction One of the fundamental purposes of management accounting and control research is to
motivate employees to operate for the firm s interest. It is clear that incentives affect overall
performance, and thus, managers and accountants by providing monetary incentives and compensation
systems aim to improve their employees performance. However, the inequity is produced by the
design of compensation contracts and by managers performance evaluation biases, is perceived to be
one of the main problems of firm s prosperity. A large theoretical literature, based on agency theory,
has emphasized how firms design compensation contracts make employees to do their best for the
firm. Therefore, firms include many different mechanisms (i.e. piece rates, options, bonuses and
stocks, budget targets) in their compensation contracts to align interests between the employees and
their managers. However, objective measures are not perfect and using only these is unlikely to be the
most effective way to motivate employees (Feltham Xie 1994; Hemmer 1996). Financial measures
provoke a reallocation of activities toward those that are directly compensated and away from the
uncompensated activities, known as multitasking problem (Holmstrom Milgrom, 1990, Baker 1992).
They have been criticized for promoting over emphasis on short turn financial results, and thus, they
sacrifice long turn (Ittner et al., 1997, 2003). Moreover, financial measures of performance tend to be

GFW Censorship In China
Often times, people desire to have the ability to avoid any damaging publicity towards themselves and
their reputation, in China this is precisely what the government is doing. Rather than allowing users to
prospect the internet freely, they are constrained to being censored and patrolled by superior power.
The people of China are told lies by their government, only to impede further questioning of its
control. The Chinese government forces strict obedience to authority of their laws against the media in
attempt to prevent any disruption towards its sovereignty. The internet arrived in China for the first
time January, 1996, and the government started blocking foreign websites only 7 months later in
August of that year. Even though China ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

China makes sure that it s people will not provoke or question, but simply just follow. Ever since

Marxist Theory Of Disney And Pixar Films
How Marxist theory is presented in Disney/Pixar films, with a focus on Toy Story 3 and Wall E.
There are many films around that reflect Marxist theories, however one that seems out of place, and as
though it shouldn t, is Disney. There are many theories present in Disney films, from feminist theory
being reflected in Disney princesses to Marxist theory being quite prominent throughout their films,
but more so in films such as Toy Story 3 and Wall E.
Karl Marx (1818 1883) was a revolutionary German economic theorist and communist with many
publications on sociology, economics and politics. Many of his writings can be used and applied into
the media. Marx stated that in prehistoric times, people had no concept of private ownership, and
everything was shared freely. There was no government to rule over everyone, but small tribes of
people who each had their own leaders. This was known as primitive communism. As time went by,
people became greedy and craved wealth. Private ownership of land led to the class system
developing, with the upper class owning the land that the lower classes lived on and worked off. This
became the feudal system, which was headed by a king. This system suited the upper class however it
also meant that the lower class was always kept at the bottom, with no way of moving up from their
positions. Industrialisation in the 1700 s meant that power in society fell into the hands of the wealthy,
as they owned the land and had the money to build factories,

mothers find it difficult to bond due to medical issues. In some cases, an underlying medical problem
can be a factor. Some women experience a drop in thyroid hormones about four to eight months after
giving birth. Low thyroid levels can cause you to feel depressed, easily irritated, and have trouble

Citizen Kane Innovative
How is Citizen Kane innovative and insightful?
Remarkably innovative and insightful films remain pertinent throughout time, reflecting timeless
human concerns. Orson Welles, in his 1941 landmark film and self described social document Citizen
Kane (CK), presents a critique of the American Dream and the shallow stereotypes it conveys in his
exploration of the nature of power and the inherent complexity of individuals, through documenting
the rise and fall of the newspaper mogul Kane. Welles concurrent synthesis of ground breaking
technical flair and form in exploring key concerns of the human condition subsequently enables CK to
achieve an exemplary textual integrity that facilitates the text s continued resonation over time.

The framing device of the quest to uncover the enigmatic Rosebud by the reporter Thompson, whose
shadowed face reflects his role as a metonym for us as Welles audience, thus moulds our
understanding of the difficulty in attaining an individual s finite identity. Thompson s realisation of
Rosebud as a missing piece [of a jigsaw puzzle], and that, I don t think any word can explain a man s
life, in which a chiaroscuro lit jigsaw puzzle, juxtaposed against the shadowed faces of the reporters,
highlights the reality of Kane s permanently fragmented and thus shadowed identity. Moreover, Welles
reveals Rosebud as Kane s childhood sled to us only, accompanied with a high angle shot of the sled
surrounded by Kane s boyhood effects. In doing so, Welles evokes dramatic irony, highlighting its
hidden importance as a representation of Kane s inner longing for his youth that remains unknown to
the film s characters. This dramatic irony, when synthesised with a subsequent panning out of the
camera from Xanadu to the No Trespassing sign through which it had entered, reminiscent of the film
s cyclical structure, thereby emphasises the impossibility of entering an individual s inner world and
thus being able to achieve a holistic understanding of one s identity. Welles philosophical examination
of identity, a universal aspect of the human condition, hence contributes to its relevance to humanity
regardless of time. Therefore, the innovation and insightfulness of CK is revealed in its exploration of
the complexity of the human

AIPAC Lobbying Tactics
How does AIPAC affect United States policy in relation to the Middle East? In my paper, I will be
briefly discussing the history behind the lobbying group and their ever so developing lobbying tactics.
As well as tackle my research question and answer it in its entirety by examining the United States
relationship with Israel, as well as comparing AIPAC s influence throughout different administrations.
In short, I hope to gather more of an understanding on how a minority in this country (the American
population is currently around 2 percent Jewish) is able to be such a model interest group (Bard).

foreign policy in the Middle East and a lot of it is based on Israel s interest. These interests are
sometimes achieved by violence and wars (Mearsheimer and Walt 52). Ultimately U.S. foreign policy
creates conflict in the Middle East. To start to describe the American Israeli relationship, it will be best
summed up by what former president John F. Kennedy who called Israel the bright light now shining
in the Middle East (Mersheimer and Walt 60). It is no secret that AIPAC s lobbies to influence U.S.
foreign policy in the favor of Israel and the Israeli government; ultimately causing a lot of unbalanced
power between countries in the Middle East (Elgindy 85). Some things that AIPAC has succeeded
with, as far as influence, has been growing the backing of the United States during the Six Day War
(Kopanski and Mohsen 86). For example, in 1967, following the Six Day War, Israel got territory over
Golan Heights (which borders Syria and Israel). The United States supported Israel for the war, not
giving other countries a real chance of victory against Israel (Kopanski and Mohsen 102). The balance
of power is significantly skewed since Israel is allied to a superpower. Thus, the United States has not
only provided Israel with nearly $3 billion to develop weapons systems such as the Lavi aircraft but as
well as giving Israel access to U.S. weaponry like Blackhawk helicopters and F16 jets (Sasson 96).

What Is The Mood Of The Poem The Pigeons And The Girls
The Pigeons And The Girls by Christopher Middleton was a poem about how everyone is the same,
whether it be an animal or a human. The poem is also told in two point of views; the girl s point of
view and then the pigeon s point of view. I could not find many rhetorical terms in the poem except
one. I also feel like Middleton is somehow trying to compare the fragile woman with a pigeon, or he is
trying to make a reference to how sometimes girls can seem small or flightful like birds. Imagery was
the only rhetorical term that I found in the poem, and it was in the quotes, a thigh or hip bone was not
working right, and she still held the other by the hand...she was thin, she limped. The quote brought
out the image of a young lady walking

The Pros And Cons Of Violent Conflict
Wars, pogroms, genocides, inquisitions, crusades, and political actions have caused many to lose their
lives or kill others for centuries. Majority of them are over the clashes in beliefs of ideologies, politics,
philosophies, and religion (and usually a combination of several reasons). These belief systems, when
explained and read about, may inject a sense of being magical and the ability to bring peace to the
world to those who are innocent. But when they are confronted by faced with the clashing with
another belief system, they fail to prove how their belief system can bring peace to the world. I will be
focusing on religious beliefs, which are sets of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the
universe, especially when considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, though it is inevitable that with different religious beliefs in a single country there will be
some tensions between the different groups but it is not appropriate to say that whenever there are
different beliefs in a country, there will always be violent conflicts as tension between different
religious group need not lead violent conflicts. Should this have been the case that difference of
religious beliefs would result in violent conflict, then majority of the world would be inconflict. But
that is not the case. As seen with Singapore, it is possible for a country to live in perfect harmony
despite the different religions so long as the government knows how to manage it. Peace between the
races does depend heavily on the government as they are the ones governing the country, thus should
they observe any tension between any belief groups, they should take preventive measures to prevent
this tension from turning into a conflict. But it is important to keep in mind that our cooperation with
the government will also greatly affect the outcome. Therefore, I myself feel that rather than saying
that with different beliefs, there will be violent beliefs, it would be better to say that there would be
tension, but whether or not this tension develops into a violent conflict or not depends on how the
government and people come to terms with

Faith And Faith In The Film The Book Of Eli
In this essay, I will discuss my opinions and knowledge based on the film The Book of Eli. Discussing
particularly the questions how faith plays into the ethical decisions regarding life and death. I do
believe Eli was justified in defending the weak by killing the strong. Eli used his faith for protection,
he fought against evil along with doing more for others than for himself. Throughout the whole film,
God and faith is strongly seen. To begin, I will discuss what role faith plays in.
When Eli is faced with conflict his actions may be seen unethical but I see it as protection. Since the
setting is post apocalyptic America, there is only so much you can do to protect yourself. The other

Essay on Comparing the Two Versions of To Build a Fire
Comparing the Two Versions of To Build a Fire
I am absolutely confident that beyond the motif itself, there is no similarity of treatment whatever
(544). Jack London, writing in December 1908, was responding to an inquiry from the Richard W.
Gilder, editor of Century Magazine. Gilder, having just published To Build a Fire in his magazine, was
worried when he came across another version published 6 years earlier. London s explanation was that
the first story was for boys and the new one was for men; the only similarity being the motif itself.
Through careful analysis of the two stories, in light of this letter to Gilder, and another letter to
Cloudesly Johns, it is apparent that although London claims no similarities ... Show more content on

This ending more clearly illustrates the dangers of the Klondike. The first version is more a morality
tale, ending with the moral of Never travel alone! (62). The second version is more of a good short
story, with the ending that is, regrettably, all too common in that part of the world. The main character
never gets a chance to change his ways and travel with a companion the proverbial next time. He
learns the lesson with the most severest of consequences: death. Another interesting difference is the
fact that in the 1902 version the main character is Tom Vincent; however in the second version, the
man has no name. This gives the main character in the 1908 version a feeling of universality.
In 1900, before either of these two stories was published, Jack London wrote a letter to a good friend,
Cloudesly Johns, explaining his philosophy on good fiction writing. This letter is an invaluable
resource when studying the work of Jack London, especially when comparing the two versions of To
Build a Fire. London emphasized quite a bit in this letter with many exclamation points and capital
letters. That was only because of the passion with which he was writing about writing. His main point
was to not be to scientific, or empirically (530) scientific. He explains not to tell the reader what your
philosophy is, but rather to have the characters tell it by their deeds, actions, talk, etc. (531). He then
moves on to talk about atmosphere, and

National Health System ( Nhs ) Essay
National Health System (NHS) England (1800words) The National Health System began in 1948 with
the aim to provide free health care for the English thus removing health access inequities. This essay
considers two strengths of the NHS, being free health and locally responsive health care and two
weaknesses being the financial burden and unprecedented pressure on health care resources. One of
the strengths of the NHS England is residents receive free fully funded medical care that includes all
medical treatment, screenings including antenatal, dental, prescriptions, specialist referrals and
optometrists (NHS England, 2016). Furthermore, while being free at point of access, the NHS system
is an efficient, effective, care, safe, coordinated and patient centred system that was ranked number
two worldwide on equity (NHS England, 2016). Free healthcare supports Ham s (2010) claim that
being free at point of entry is a characteristic of a high performing health care system. The benefits of
free healthcare were that everyone was able to get the same medical treatment. The delivery of health
care through Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG s) is another strength. CCG s were created in
2012 following the passing of the Health and Social Care Act, to replace primary care trusts in
2013(NHS England, 2013). Their strength lies in their authority and purpose to provide health care
that is responsive to a geographical area and set patient number. They are clinically led, often by local

Essay On Lucretia
The purpose of this assignment is to present a brief yet comprehensive formal analysis of the work in
question, namely, Joos van Cleve s Lucretia. The painting was completed ca. 1525 by the Flemish
artist most likely in Antwerp, where he was highly active from about 1511 until his death in 1540. The
painting is oil on panel (75.9 x 60.6 cm) and is exemplary of the early Baroque period. The work
depicts at the broadest level the suicide of the early Roman historical figure, Lucretia, following her
rape c. 510 BC by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the last Roman king. The incident bears historical
significance as it marks rising popular dissatisfaction of the Roman people with the monarchy, and the
transition from the Roman Kingdom to the Roman Republic, ... Show more content on

This image of Lucretia is not that of some mythological or religious origin, say, of a venus, for
example, part of whose appeal is the depiction of nudity without social repercussion. With respect to
the time which bore this painting, it is not unlikely that this inclination to experiment with the female
nude was in part sublimated by means of this historical subject matter, however, so say that Lucretia s
nudity is illustrated only on account of what would amount to the privilege of moral impunity is
perhaps too simple an explanation. It seems much more reasonable to posit that Lucretia s own nudity,
especially in conjunction with her opulent, indeed, what is surely very expensive clothing (other
depictions of Lucretia typically omit the inclusion of clothes altogether), is employed by Cleve to
highlight Lucretia s shame amid her wealth and regal lifestyle, her clothes have been cleaved open,
and she had been irrevocable hurt and humiliated. Whether intended by the artist, this awkward
parting of Lucretia s garments over her left shoulder and down through her abdomen adds greatly to
the desolation and pity associated with her historical figure. Ultimately, this compositional decision
serves to augment the paintings emotional

More Specifically, I Am Very Interested In Increasing Female
More specifically, I am very interested in increasing female enrollment in STEM in my college due to
the low enrollment in computer science and engineering classes. There are a significantly lower

computer science, engineering, and technology. Per the US Census Bureau statistics, women comprise
48% of the total workforce but only make up 27% of computer workers, 24 % of STEM, and only

By targeting the number of enrolled female students at community colleges, we can increase the
number of women college graduates and thus address the issue of the gender gap in the workforce.
This would help achieve the overall goal of facilitating creativity and innovation by increasing
diversity in STEM occupations. Any initiatives and programs designed for this purpose should also
take into account possible etiologies of this gender discrepancy. Some well known contributing factors
to the lower number of female community college students enrolled in STEM courses include
negative gender stereotypes regarding aptitude towards mathematics and science, and a decreased
number of female faculty members in college and universities.
I am personally invested in looking for solutions to the question: how can we increase female
community college enrollment in STEM and thereafter to decrease the gender gap in the workforce?
In order to find these solutions, it is important to understand how the brain and mind function
differently between students with gender and cultural differences in community college. I am
fascinated with learning and applying a knowledge of both neuroscience and cognitive theory to
improve teaching and learning. I am constantly investigating how and what I can do as a community

Electric Potential Lab

Date: Electric Field and Electric Potential
Abstract
The purpose of this lab exercise was to map out electric potential (v) around electrodes in a water
bath. This was done by measuring the voltage drop between one fixed location and a large number of
various locations in the water. Afterwards, the associated field was calculated. The electric field
strength E, was calculated from a map of the electric potentials by taking the potential difference
between two closely spaced points on either side of the point of interest and dividing it by the distance
between two closely spaced points.
Experimental Procedure: This experiment was accomplished in two parts. In part ... Show more

From the data recorded, the equipotential lines did not cross each other since each of the equipotential
line was assigned a specific value of electric field. From this experiment, it is evident that the RMS
voltage inside the ring decreased with an increase in distance of separation. This suggests that, the
electric field inside the ring was not the same in all points. It was also noted from the graphs that the
proportionality that existed between the electric field, E, and 1/r was consistent with the linear
dependence of electric potential with ln (r) since both of them increased with an increase in electric
field. In addition, both were characterized by a positive gradient. Similarly, the electric field lines
drawn were perpendicular to the equipotential lines, the reason being that the electric potential is
equivalent to the electric field multiplied by the distance. The two point probe was used to measure the
electric field in this lab since it is capable of measuring low frequency electric fields. As a result, the
measurements were considered accurate. The difference in the calculated value of the charge per unit
length λ, for both the graphs of 1n(r) versus voltage and the graph of 1/r versus the electric field, was
small (insignificant), i.e. 0.04592 and 0.03287 respectively. Further, the percentage

The argument here is based on the premise that in today s day and age where we share much

Face Negotiation Theory By Stella Ting Toomey
Face negotiation theory was developed by Stella Ting Toomey, a professor of Speech Communication
at California State University, Fullerton, who earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in
1981. She developed the theory after being influenced by the work of Goffman, and Brown and
Levinson.
Ting Toomey (1988) states an assumption of face negotiation theory is that people in all cultures try to
maintain and negotiate face in all communication situations. Another assumption of the theory
described by Ting Toomey (1988) is that face is problematic in sensitive interpersonal situations, such
as conflict. According to Oetzel and Ting Toomey (2003), the theory is useful in explaining both
differences and similarities in face and facework during conflict situations. Many scholars have
researched specific areas regarding face negotiation theory. The areas mentioned below will focus on
the concept of face, conflict, and intercultural situations. The concept of face is important in conflict
situations because communicators should protect their own interests, and avoid violating others
interests during the interaction. Face has many different definitions, written by many different
scholars. Ting Toomey (1988) defines face as an individual s claimed sense of positive image in the
context of social interaction (Ting Toomey, 1988) . Another definition of face is a claimed sense of
favorable social self worth that a person wants others to have of her or him (Ting Toomey

Nike Vs Under Armour Financial Analysis
For this financial statement analysis project, I have chosen to compare Nike and Under Armour. There
are several ratios that can give an overall idea of how a company has performed in comparison to
another company with in the same industry, but before I jump into all of the math I would like to give
a little bit of history on these two rival companies.
Nike Inc, (NKE) has long been a household name synonymous with athletic apparel, but it seems that
newcomer Under Armour Inc, (UA) is becoming a viable threat to Nike s status. Although Nike
remains at the top, Under Armour recently muscled out Adidas to claim the number two slot for most

under track and field coach Bill Bowerman. Bill Bowerman was looking for ways to enhance his

Under Armour Inc is a younger, still growing company.

The Fall Of The Roman Republic
Tiberius and his brother Gaius were regarded in Roman tradition as the initiators of the revolution
which led to the breakdown of the Republic. (Roebuck, 1966:506) The fall of the Roman Republic
occurred during the late second century BC and resulted in various leading figures emerging such as
Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus. Tiberius Gracchus was largely responsible for creating and initiating a
long term political crisis in Rome in the early first century through his land reformations and desire to
aid the poor. However, his intentions led not only to political arguments but violence within Roman
society. This will be demonstrated through the analysis of ancient sources, discussion of the historical
context, Tiberius Gracchus motives, actions and contribution to the fall of the Roman Republic. Much
has been written about Tiberius in both modern and ancient sources, although some are divided on his
motives while others strive for his selflessness. Orosius, an ancient source concerning the Roman
Republic stated that Tiberius was angry with the nobility because of the Numantine Treaty, decided
that the land possessed hither to by private individuals, should be divided amongst the people, and this
caused him to reform against the Senate (Bishop, 1988). There are a trio of vital ancient sources
reliable on the breakdown of the Republic. Cicero, Appian and Plutarch. Cicero is one of the few that

A World Without Work By Derek Thompson
In the well loved tale of the three little pigs, three piglets build themselves houses to protect
themselves from the big bad wolf. The first house was made of straw, the second was made of sticks,
and the third was made of sturdy bricks. Unfortunately for the unprepared pigs, only the brick house
was able to survive the huffing and puffing of the monstrous canine; the big bad wolf destroyed the
other two. Just as a house made of weak materials is unable to withstand powerful gusts, an argument
without evidence is unable to fend off the attacks of logic. This is the case in Derek Thompson s
article, A World without Work, which was published in The Atlantic in July/August 2015. Challenging
modern society s view that the sole purposes of work are to earn money and boost self esteem, this
article asserts that work also plays an important role in holding together a community. Therefore,
Thompson argues, its removal would have many negative impacts on American society. While A
World without Work does provide an interesting perspective on the nature of work, the author fails to
persuade his audience because he does not clearly define his key terms or provide concrete evidence
to support either his main point or his proposed solution to the problem, thereby leaving his argument
as weak as a straw house. In A World without Work, Derek Thompson argues that in the near future,
technology will remove the need for the American workforce, thus causing a major problem in the

My Most Meaningful Accomplishment
My most meaningful accomplishment will be graduating from Ohio State. I am proud of this because I
will be the first in my family to graduate from high school and now from college. Graduating from
Ohio State is such an incredible accomplishment for me not only because of the mere fact I am
graduating, but because I am graduating from a University away from my hometown. Within my high
school graduating class, only one other student came with me to Ohio State for college and
unfortunately, he dropped out after our first year. Being away from home, family, and familiar faces
made my transition to Ohio State more difficult because I had to learn to be independent and make
decisions by myself, for myself. The greatest challenge for me academically ... Show more content on

Apart from the struggles academically, stepping on a campus such as Ohio State s provides a culture
shock to low income, urban students. I had always been surrounded by students whose parents had not
graduated from high school, who struggled financially, and who were predominately Latino. This all
vanished when I came to Ohio State and it left me feeling vulnerable and out of place. Although this
experience was difficult, it forced me to find others on campus I could relate to. As a result, I became
extremely involved in the minority community at Ohio State and embraced my culture. I am so proud
of navigating Ohio State s campus both academically and socially, because I was able to pass those
skills and advice on to my little brother, who just started his first year at the University of Toledo. I
have to attribute my success to my parents, who always encouraged and inspired me, even if they didn
t truly understand the stress and hardships I was going through, my past teachers who pushed me to
leave Toledo, my current professors who push me to pursue my dreams, and my community/family I

Looking for an incredible home pet? Interested in learning about a unique animal? Want to observe

parrot! Animals such as cats or dogs are commonly selected as home pets, but parrots are often
forgotten. More people should consider adopting these fascinating birds. Parrots would make good

First, other than talking, parrots have been taught to ride miniature bicycles, skateboards, play mini
football, and basketball (Midgley, 2015). Not only can parrots talk, but they can play sports also. For

shows that parrots are smart and have different abilities as well. Secondly, an African Grey named
Alex died in 2007 at the age of 31. His last words to Dr. Pepperberg on the night before he died were:
You be good. See you tomorrow. I love you. He could also understand the concepts bigger , smaller ,
same and different and was learning about over and under (Midgley, 2015). An African Grey named
Alex talked to Dr. Pepperberg on the night before he died. He could also understand the concepts of
some words too. This proves that he could do what another animal cannot do which makes parrots
unique. Thirdly, an intelligent African grey parrot named Alex, managed to learn to count to 6, answer
the questions, recognize 7 colors and identify 35 different objects (Midgley, 2015). Alex has also
learned other things and it is to count to 6, answer questions, recognize 7 colors and identify 35
different objects. This demonstrates the skills parrots have and what else they can do that makes
everyone want to adopt one. It s obvious that lizards would make the best home pet because you can

I chose to view and analyze the film The Boondock Saints. There were many different things I focused
on while viewing the film. I decided to brake them down into the following categories: narrative,
theatrical elements, cinematography, sound, and the overall experience. I will begin with stating my
personal interpretations and understandings of the narrative.
Throughout the film there are two main characters. These two characters are Irish brothers that share a
deep sense of their Catholic religion. Their names are Murphy and Connor McManus. Murphy and
Connor are two normal men who are put in an extraordinary situation. Connor risks his own life to
save the life of his brother. The situation starts out with a bar fight with two Russian ... Show more

  • 2. Herman Melville Research Paper Raju Singh Mrs. McDaniel American Literature Herman Melville Progress is key to living life, but if one is advancing through life with the motivation of revenge, then, in actuality, he or she is truly regressing. Revenge is an extremely corruptive trait. It causes people to do uncharacteristic things that normally would not be done. The perception of right and wrong is blurred and one takes inadvertent actions that may cost friendships, possessions, and even lives. Revenge is often a major motivating factor in the characters that are in the works written during the Dark Romanticism period. One of the most celebrated and influential American authors in history, Herman Melville, was born on August 1, 1819; his reputation was not quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On September 28, 1891 just after midnight, Melville suffered a heart attack and died, leaving Billy Budd in manuscript (Rollyson xxiv). Billy Budd was published posthumously. Moby Dick is considered to be one of, if not the, best novels in American history. Harper amp; Brothers first published it in 1851 in New York. In England, it was published in the same year under the title, The Whale ( Moby Dick ). Melville explores topics and themes that were scarcely spoken of and never even seen in a novel. In the novel, the Pequod, which is the ship, is named after a Native American tribe that was exterminated when the white settlers arrived. It is a symbol of death and doom and foreshadows event that occur later in the novel. Melville brings some very controversial themes to light in the novel. Revenge is one of the main themes of Dark Romanticism and Melville uses it to drive every action taken by Ahab. This is seen early on in the novel as Ahab explains to the crew why he has a peg leg and that he wants to enact his revenge on Moby Dick (Melville 160 161). Moby Dick is, fundamentally, a revenge tragedy. It s about one man s maniacal obsession with vengeance. It s about finding an object on which to pin all you anger and fear and rage, not only about your own suffering, but also about the suffering of all mankind ( Moby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Evaluation Of The Chicago Maternity Center If a sweeping pestilence struck down as many women in a community as are taken in childbirth we would immediately be aroused, claimed Beatrice E. Tucker, Director and Associate Obstetrician of The Chicago Maternity Center. Beatrice was determined to helped needed women, in a needed community, in Chicago. (Tucker, Beatrice E., and Harry B. Benaron, 1) The Chicago Maternity Center was founded in 1895, by Dr. Joseph DeLee. However, it was led and directed by Dr. Beatrice Tucker, accompanied by her partner Dr. Harry Benaron. The center was opened from 1932 until 1973. The center provided free obstetrical care for poor women while at the same time helping doctors train for the latest methods to as well provide safe delivery for these women (Simpson, 1). The center wasn t such a famous hospital or clinic as the time. It also wasn t located by means of a medical school, such as the University of Chicago. Instead, the Chicago Maternity Center was located at 1334 South Newberry Street, centered at Chicago s West Side. The reason for this was because, when Beatrice Tucker became the Chicago Maternity Center s leader, the community was trapped as a desperate poor immigrant working class (Simpson, 1). Therefore, the center had two purposes. The first, was to care for and treat poor women, in childbirth, right at their homes. Second, was to teach doctors, medical students, and nurses the science and art of obstetrics (Tucker, Beatrice E., and Harry B. Benaron, 1). Through these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of No I Do Not Want To Pet Your Dog By Farhad Manjoo In the article No, I Do Not Want to Pet Your dog, by Farhad Manjoo, the author deeply expresses his negative opinion towards dogs and their oblivious owners who believe that everyone s a dog lover. The overall theme of the essay illustrates the lack of responsibility for dog owners have for their pets as they run ramped through dog free zones. Manjoo deeply expresses his opinion, although lacks some key supporting points and formulates mostly upon personal bias. With that in mind, I strongly disagree with the author and believe that his main points does not accurately portray the issue related to dogs. ........... To begin with, Manjoo s arguments against dogs and their owners don t appear logical and rather sound more as a rant in attempt to get his point across. More specifically, I found Manjoo s arguments rather abrupt towards the beginning while he stated his one sided opinion, rather than considering and addressing those who many disagree with him. In doing so, Manjoo may have attracted a portion of the audience of who agrees with him, while he only repels those with a neutral or positive view towards dogs, with his negative and irrational tone. For instance, when Manjoo stated No explanation was offered for the pooch s presence, as if it were the most natural thing in the world to have a dog in a place usually reserved for human beings. Huh, I thought (224). In his claim, Manjoo comments that dogs are found in places usually reserved by humans, the word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This Is My Life Observed for the first time at The Wick with Josh Mayer (Call Me Lemon), Born Wisdom has been planting his feet everywhere from Shady Katie s to First State Lounge in Philadelphia. Wisdom has been featured before and hits the leading spot again. In each song, Wisdom declared he shares about himself, his experiences and his life as it is today. In his first song This Is My Life , the lyrics delivered in a sort of spoken word form looked into the type of person he used to be, sharing personal trials and tribulations. As he spoke with his voice, body and hands, he conveyed thoughtful expression and various emotions. Usually accompanied by Josh Mayer and his acoustic guitar, a light band and his friend Nikia Comfort offered a change of pace. Comfort added a complimenting female essence to Wisdom s performance. In a flurry of alternated verses, the duo touched not just on Wisdom s life, but issues of today, the generic stereotype of Hip Hop culture and being a woman in a man s world . Murrow constantly theorizes about a conspiracy plot against him and has consistently displayed episodes of paranoid, delusional behavior. Murrow s erratic behavior is marked by the belief that his parents are conspiring with his doctor to force him to take psychopharmaceuticals. • 10. Reseach on the Impact of Religion Bias on Performance... 1. Introduction One of the fundamental purposes of management accounting and control research is to motivate employees to operate for the firm s interest. It is clear that incentives affect overall performance, and thus, managers and accountants by providing monetary incentives and compensation systems aim to improve their employees performance. However, the inequity is produced by the design of compensation contracts and by managers performance evaluation biases, is perceived to be one of the main problems of firm s prosperity. A large theoretical literature, based on agency theory, has emphasized how firms design compensation contracts make employees to do their best for the firm. Therefore, firms include many different mechanisms (i.e. piece rates, options, bonuses and stocks, budget targets) in their compensation contracts to align interests between the employees and their managers. However, objective measures are not perfect and using only these is unlikely to be the most effective way to motivate employees (Feltham Xie 1994; Hemmer 1996). Financial measures provoke a reallocation of activities toward those that are directly compensated and away from the uncompensated activities, known as multitasking problem (Holmstrom Milgrom, 1990, Baker 1992). They have been criticized for promoting over emphasis on short turn financial results, and thus, they sacrifice long turn (Ittner et al., 1997, 2003). There are many theories present in Disney films, from feminist theory being reflected in Disney princesses to Marxist theory being quite prominent throughout their films, but more so in films such as Toy Story 3 and Wall E. Karl Marx (1818 1883) was a revolutionary German economic theorist and communist with many publications on sociology, economics and politics. Many of his writings can be used and applied into the media. Marx stated that in prehistoric times, people had no concept of private ownership, and everything was shared freely. There was no government to rule over everyone, but small tribes of people who each had their own leaders. This was known as primitive communism. As time went by, people became greedy and craved wealth. Private ownership of land led to the class system developing, with the upper class owning the land that the lower classes lived on and worked off. This became the feudal system, which was headed by a king. This system suited the upper class however it also meant that the lower class was always kept at the bottom, with no way of moving up from their positions. Thompson s realisation of Rosebud as a missing piece [of a jigsaw puzzle], and that, I don t think any word can explain a man s life, in which a chiaroscuro lit jigsaw puzzle, juxtaposed against the shadowed faces of the reporters, highlights the reality of Kane s permanently fragmented and thus shadowed identity. Moreover, Welles reveals Rosebud as Kane s childhood sled to us only, accompanied with a high angle shot of the sled surrounded by Kane s boyhood effects. In doing so, Welles evokes dramatic irony, highlighting its hidden importance as a representation of Kane s inner longing for his youth that remains unknown to the film s characters. This dramatic irony, when synthesised with a subsequent panning out of the camera from Xanadu to the No Trespassing sign through which it had entered, reminiscent of the film s cyclical structure, thereby emphasises the impossibility of entering an individual s inner world and thus being able to achieve a holistic understanding of one s identity. Welles philosophical examination of identity, a universal aspect of the human condition, hence contributes to its relevance to humanity regardless of time. To start to describe the American Israeli relationship, it will be best summed up by what former president John F. It is no secret that AIPAC s lobbies to influence U.S. foreign policy in the favor of Israel and the Israeli government; ultimately causing a lot of unbalanced power between countries in the Middle East (Elgindy 85). Some things that AIPAC has succeeded with, as far as influence, has been growing the backing of the United States during the Six Day War (Kopanski and Mohsen 86). For example, in 1967, following the Six Day War, Israel got territory over Golan Heights (which borders Syria and Israel). The United States supported Israel for the war, not giving other countries a real chance of victory against Israel (Kopanski and Mohsen 102). The balance of power is significantly skewed since Israel is allied to a superpower. Jack London, writing in December 1908, was responding to an inquiry from the Richard W. Gilder, editor of Century Magazine. Gilder, having just published To Build a Fire in his magazine, was worried when he came across another version published 6 years earlier. London s explanation was that the first story was for boys and the new one was for men; the only similarity being the motif itself. The main character never gets a chance to change his ways and travel with a companion the proverbial next time. He learns the lesson with the most severest of consequences: death. Another interesting difference is the fact that in the 1902 version the main character is Tom Vincent; however in the second version, the man has no name. This gives the main character in the 1908 version a feeling of universality. In 1900, before either of these two stories was published, Jack London wrote a letter to a good friend, Cloudesly Johns, explaining his philosophy on good fiction writing. This letter is an invaluable resource when studying the work of Jack London, especially when comparing the two versions of To Build a Fire. London emphasized quite a bit in this letter with many exclamation points and capital letters. That was only because of the passion with which he was writing about writing. National Health System ( Nhs ) Essay National Health System (NHS) England (1800words) The National Health System began in 1948 with the aim to provide free health care for the English thus removing health access inequities. This essay considers two strengths of the NHS, being free health and locally responsive health care and two weaknesses being the financial burden and unprecedented pressure on health care resources. One of the strengths of the NHS England is residents receive free fully funded medical care that includes all medical treatment, screenings including antenatal, dental, prescriptions, specialist referrals and optometrists (NHS England, 2016). Furthermore, while being free at point of access, the NHS system is an efficient, effective, care, safe, coordinated and patient centred system that was ranked number two worldwide on equity (NHS England, 2016). Free healthcare supports Ham s (2010) claim that being free at point of entry is a characteristic of a high performing health care system. The benefits of free healthcare were that everyone was able to get the same medical treatment. The delivery of health care through Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG s) is another strength. CCG s were created in 2012 following the passing of the Health and Social Care Act, to replace primary care trusts in 2013(NHS England, 2013). The painting is oil on panel (75.9 x 60.6 cm) and is exemplary of the early Baroque period. The work depicts at the broadest level the suicide of the early Roman historical figure, Lucretia, following her rape c. 510 BC by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the last Roman king. It seems much more reasonable to posit that Lucretia s own nudity, especially in conjunction with her opulent, indeed, what is surely very expensive clothing (other depictions of Lucretia typically omit the inclusion of clothes altogether), is employed by Cleve to highlight Lucretia s shame amid her wealth and regal lifestyle, her clothes have been cleaved open, and she had been irrevocable hurt and humiliated. This would help achieve the overall goal of facilitating creativity and innovation by increasing diversity in STEM occupations. Any initiatives and programs designed for this purpose should also take into account possible etiologies of this gender discrepancy. Some well known contributing factors to the lower number of female community college students enrolled in STEM courses include negative gender stereotypes regarding aptitude towards mathematics and science, and a decreased number of female faculty members in college and universities. I am personally invested in looking for solutions to the question: how can we increase female community college enrollment in STEM and thereafter to decrease the gender gap in the workforce? I am fascinated with learning and applying a knowledge of both neuroscience and cognitive theory to improve teaching and learning. I am constantly investigating how and what I can do as a community college educator to improve the current gender gap in STEM classrooms and thereby the workforce. I believe ... • 32. Electric Potential Lab Name: Institution: Course: Instructor: Date: Electric Field and Electric Potential Abstract The purpose of this lab exercise was to map out electric potential (v) around electrodes in a water bath. This was done by measuring the voltage drop between one fixed location and a large number of various locations in the water. Afterwards, the associated field was calculated. The electric field strength E, was calculated from a map of the electric potentials by taking the potential difference between two closely spaced points on either side of the point of interest and dividing it by the distance between two closely spaced points. Experimental Procedure: This experiment was accomplished in two parts. In part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the data recorded, the equipotential lines did not cross each other since each of the equipotential line was assigned a specific value of electric field. From this experiment, it is evident that the RMS voltage inside the ring decreased with an increase in distance of separation. This suggests that, the electric field inside the ring was not the same in all points. It was also noted from the graphs that the proportionality that existed between the electric field, E, and 1/r was consistent with the linear dependence of electric potential with ln (r) since both of them increased with an increase in electric field. In addition, both were characterized by a positive gradient. Similarly, the electric field lines drawn were perpendicular to the equipotential lines, the reason being that the electric potential is equivalent to the electric field multiplied by the distance. The two point probe was used to measure the electric field in this lab since it is capable of measuring low frequency electric fields. As a result, the measurements were considered accurate. The difference in the calculated value of the charge per unit length λ, for both the graphs of 1n(r) versus voltage and the graph of 1/r versus the electric field, was small (insignificant), i.e. 0.04592 and 0.03287 respectively. • 35. Face Negotiation Theory By Stella Ting Toomey Face negotiation theory was developed by Stella Ting Toomey, a professor of Speech Communication at California State University, Fullerton, who earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1981. She developed the theory after being influenced by the work of Goffman, and Brown and Levinson. Ting Toomey (1988) states an assumption of face negotiation theory is that people in all cultures try to maintain and negotiate face in all communication situations. Another assumption of the theory described by Ting Toomey (1988) is that face is problematic in sensitive interpersonal situations, such as conflict. According to Oetzel and Ting Toomey (2003), the theory is useful in explaining both differences and similarities in face and facework during conflict situations. Many scholars have researched specific areas regarding face negotiation theory. The areas mentioned below will focus on the concept of face, conflict, and intercultural situations. The concept of face is important in conflict situations because communicators should protect their own interests, and avoid violating others interests during the interaction. Face has many different definitions, written by many different scholars. Ting Toomey (1988) defines face as an individual s claimed sense of positive image in the context of social interaction (Ting Toomey, 1988) . Another definition of face is a claimed sense of favorable social self worth that a person wants others to have of her or him (Ting Toomey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Fall Of The Roman Republic Tiberius and his brother Gaius were regarded in Roman tradition as the initiators of the revolution which led to the breakdown of the Republic. (Roebuck, 1966:506) The fall of the Roman Republic occurred during the late second century BC and resulted in various leading figures emerging such as Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus. Tiberius Gracchus was largely responsible for creating and initiating a long term political crisis in Rome in the early first century through his land reformations and desire to aid the poor. However, his intentions led not only to political arguments but violence within Roman society. This will be demonstrated through the analysis of ancient sources, discussion of the historical context, Tiberius Gracchus motives, actions and contribution to the fall of the Roman Republic. Much has been written about Tiberius in both modern and ancient sources, although some are divided on his motives while others strive for his selflessness. Orosius, an ancient source concerning the Roman Republic stated that Tiberius was angry with the nobility because of the Numantine Treaty, decided that the land possessed hither to by private individuals, should be divided amongst the people, and this caused him to reform against the Senate (Bishop, 1988). • 42. A World Without Work By Derek Thompson In the well loved tale of the three little pigs, three piglets build themselves houses to protect themselves from the big bad wolf. The first house was made of straw, the second was made of sticks, and the third was made of sturdy bricks. Unfortunately for the unprepared pigs, only the brick house was able to survive the huffing and puffing of the monstrous canine; the big bad wolf destroyed the other two. Just as a house made of weak materials is unable to withstand powerful gusts, an argument without evidence is unable to fend off the attacks of logic. This is the case in Derek Thompson s article, A World without Work, which was published in The Atlantic in July/August 2015. Challenging modern society s view that the sole purposes of work are to earn money and boost self esteem, this article asserts that work also plays an important role in holding together a community. Therefore, Thompson argues, its removal would have many negative impacts on American society. While A World without Work does provide an interesting perspective on the nature of work, the author fails to persuade his audience because he does not clearly define his key terms or provide concrete evidence to support either his main point or his proposed solution to the problem, thereby leaving his argument as weak as a straw house. In A World without Work, Derek Thompson argues that in the near future, technology will remove the need for the American workforce, thus causing a major problem in the ...
