Robert Agnew General Strain Theory
Throughout history a lot of experts have tried to understand why some people feel the need to commit
crimes, even though there have been harsh laws enforced for those who commit crimes. These people
have come up with theories as to why people commit crimes to understand these theories, we must
understand what a crime is and understand the definition of theories.
Crime is a human conduct that violates the laws of a state or the federal government. There are
different ways people view criminal behaviors either through the view of the social problem
perspective which blames the society and the social responsibility which blames the person who
committed the crime. Through these two perspectives we get the idea of theories. A theory is a
comprehensive explanation about certain experiences which are based on facts that have been
gathered overtime. These theories explain the mental reason people are more pushed to commit
crimes. Theories like Robert Agnews General Strain Theory has given us an explanation as to
phenomena criminal behavior. In 1992 strain theory was reformulated by Robert Agnew and called the
general strain theory. Agnew felt as though that strain theory was not fully explaining the main reason
people are pushed to commit crimes, so he came up with a theory he felt was a better explanation and
a reason as to why crimes were committed.
The concept of general strain theory comes from the idea that people commit crimes to use it as a
means of copping with the

Lena Horne
Singer/actress Lena Horne s primary occupation was nightclub entertaining, a profession she pursued
successfully around the world for more than 60 years, from the 1930s to the 1990s. In conjunction
with her club work, she also maintained a recording career that stretched from 1936 to 2000 and
brought her three Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1989; she appeared in 16
feature films and several shorts between 1938 and 1978; she performed occasionally on Broadway,
including in her own Tony winning one woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music in 1981
1982; and she sang and acted on radio and television. Adding to the challenge of maintaining such a

Jones owed his job a clerk in the county coroner s office to political patronage. It did not bring in
much money, and in 1938, when Horne was approached by an agent with an offer to co star in a low
budget all black movie musical with a mere ten day shooting schedule in Hollywood, she accepted.
The film was The Duke Is Tops, released in July 1938. Later in the year, Horne was asked to take on a
more time consuming project, a part in a new mounting of producer Lew Leslie s all black musical
revue Blackbirds. Again, she accepted in the name of increasing the family income, spending months
in rehearsals and out of town tryouts before Lew Leslie s Blackbirds of 1939 opened on Broadway on
February 11, 1939. One of Horne s numbers was You re So Indifferent, written by Sammy Fain and
Mitchell Parish, a song she would keep in her repertoire. The show ran only nine performances,
closing February 18.
Horne returned to Pittsburgh, where she temporarily separated from her husband, then reconciled with
him. She began taking singing engagements in the homes of wealthy families in the area. She also
became pregnant again, and her son, Edwin Fletcher ( Teddy ) Jones, was born in February 1940. That
fall, she made a final separation from her husband (they were formally divorced in June 1944) and
moved to New York to restart her career. In December, she accepted an offer to join the

Mrs. Hanson s Life
Mrs. Hanson was the first to use it, when she realized that the moon, when full, hung centered in the
top right pane, and the summer evening breezes seemed always to find their way through it.
Nights she would sit, rocking baby Chance to sleep, the bicycle bells, and laughter, and ice cream
trucks the only things that seemed to lull him into sleep. Not singing, not the music box, only the
scattered, mingling of sounds from the city street below. So she kept the rocker near the window, and
on full moon summer nights, she would sit with her baby boy, both of them soothed and calmed by
what lay beyond. And she sang anyway, to herself, as much as the boy.

Skye Kenwood rented the apartment on the top floor as soon as the building became available. She
didn t mind the four floor walk up, she d rather be above looking down.
It was the windows that drew her to the apartment, mounted in the curved, bay wall of the building,
and rising to nearly the ceiling. She knew right away that she would make a bay window seat for the
one on the left, where the breeze seemed always to billow the curtains there.
In the spring she would sit on that seat with her sketch pad, looking down on the life below, scurrying
and hurrying, like blood vessels through a vein.
Sometimes she would lift the screen and sprinkle bird seed on the small ledge outside, then sit and
wait for any takers. Mostly there were pigeons, but occasionally she fed a sparrow or two, or on a
truly fortuitous day, a mourning dove would settle there and coo his melancholy song.
But moments as such would last only as long as her ambitious feline remained ignorant of the
potential prey s existence.
Skye soon found there were fewer places she d rather be than on her perch, nestled on pillows,
watching the world in its never ending, maddening ballet.
Skye made her home there for nearly four years, painting the molding around the windows, hanging
stained glass ovals where the morning sun would have little choice but to pass through them on its
way to her sofa.

Mystery Powder Experiment
Starting our hypothesis was that it was cornstarch, according to all of the data we collected in table
2(example at bottom of page). When we just looked at the substance it had a powder like appearance
with no real specific way of being arranged. Then we started with each test of the powder first the
simple close up look test using the microscope this showed us basically what we had seen with our
eyes in a little more detail from this we found that it was what we had seen a powder like substance
with no real arrangement but the only difference was two crystals within the powder. Next we moved
on to the more complex test like the vinegar test in this test when the vinegar was mixed with the
substance it did not really mix at all the vinegar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immediately we count off baking soda, salt, and sugar because in the first test with the microscope,
they show all crystal arrangements unlike the powder in our mystery. Then we go on to count off the
plaster of Paris because in the vinegar test, it does the opposite of our mystery powder, it mixed with
the vinegar while our powder sat on top and started to harden. At this point we are down to flour and
corn starch these two show the same results in the iodine test the both turn into a thick black gel.
Continuing on to the heat test they show generally the same, but the flour starts to smoke unlike the
corn starch just turning brown after a while, but this is still a pretty close difference between the two
so then we go back to the vinegar test where the corn starch sat on top and hardened the flour just sat
on top of the vinegar so now this is two differences we have found comparing the flour to our mystery
powder. In the end the one that had all the same results as the mystery powder was the corn starch this
proves our hypothesis to be correct but there should be more to our hypothesis because the crystals
found in the substance therefore it must have one of the crystal substances in it also such as baking
soda, salt, sugar or plaster of

Troilus And Cressida Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet
In Chaucer s Troilus and Cressida and Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet both emphasize two love
stories between two people and highlights the tragic events that occured. In Repetition and Revision in
Shakespeare s Tragic Love Plays by McInnis states, the facts are the same but the interpretations are at
variance (34). Both of these stories focused on the issues, decisions, and overall outcomes in their
relationship that lead to their downfall. Troilus and Cressida compared to Romeo and Juliet are tragic
love stories that are problematized by circumstances beyond the control of the lovers. The love
between Troilus and Criseyde is the main theme of this work. Their passionate love reminds the reader
of other well known lovers, and has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both characters kept coming up with possible paths or plans and not doing anything about it. It shows
that they both had an active role of their relationships withering away and resulting in a negative
outcome. They passively resign themselves to their own suffering. Even though they were both in love
when it came to trying to fight for the relationship or keep is alive, it was non existent. It was a
reptitive patter througout the play and sugesst that even though they were in love, they were never
strong or brave enough to fight for what they want. Which is ironic as Troilous was the son of King
Priam. As McInnis states, The events conform to the generic pattern, ....unprecedented betrayal scene
for the illusion of hope contributes to the bleak atmosphere of the play, in which events are so clearly
fated that there is not even any tragic irony to cling to for sustenance (46). Most of his outrageous
plans came from Troilus, all because of Cressida. One example is when Troilus believed that Cressida
has died, he was prepared to commit suicide. Troilus viewed himself as incompetent because he was
not capable to handle Cressida. However, she was not dead. Cressida was held in the greek camp, and
was wooed by her new lover, the Greek guard Diomedes. Cressida went as far as trick Troilous so she
would not have to worry about him anymore which later on lead to the

Hunger of Memory
Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodríguez
Hunger of Memory is an autobiography of the writer Richard Rodríguez and his transition from youth
to manhood told through a series of recollected stories. The premise of his writing was centered
mainly on his struggle to maintain both his Mexican heritage and closeness to his Spanish speaking
family, while at the same time being assimilated into American culture and obtaining an advanced
education. Within the book Richard Rodríguez illustrates his contempt for affirmative action and
bilingual education, two practices that had directly burdened his life while growing up. One of his
main conflicts was grounded in his own family unintentionally being pulled away from him by ...

One significant point in his life was when he worked in construction for a summer. This was the first
time he allowed his skin to become dark. He was astonished to learn that many of his colleagues had
college diplomas. They did not fit into his preconception that all workers were poor because in fact,
many of them were middle to upper class. Following that summer, he declared the curse of physical
shame was broken by the sun; I was no longer ashamed of my body. In 1967 African American civil
rights leaders brought attention to the mediocre education that black students in high school were
receiving and how it was not properly preparing them for college. This also sparked Hispanic
American activists to complain that there were not enough Hispanics attending college, concluding
that this too was because of racism. Soon after many African American and Hispanic American sit ins,
protests and marches for change in the school systems, Rodríguez was offered numerous financial and
academic opportunities to help carry him through his college career.
After graduating from college, Rodríguez went on to find himself a teaching job, though many schools
ended up proactively seeking him out for employment without his prior inquiry. An overwhelming
wave of career opportunities came flooding towards him, hailing from

Neighbour Rosicky And A Rose For Emily
In the two short stories, A Rose for Emily and Neighbor Rosicky , the authors portray a women s role
in family and society similarly. Faulkner and Cather both show the day to day lives of women as the
cook, cleaner, and manager of their household. In society, women take on a gender role that dictates
the kind of behaviors that are considered normal. Faulkner and Cather also assert that it is not normal
for a woman to work outside of the home. In fact, working outside the home is frowned upon as a
form of aberrant behavior. A woman is to be the house manager, a wife and mother, and to pass down
her knowledge to the youth.
In each of the stories it states that woman are in charge of keeping the house in order. When Emily
vanished from her house, leaving only her male servant in charge, a putrid smell had started to
develop. The women of the town gossiped and whispered, Just as if a man any man could keep a
kitchen properly (Rose, 3). The women believed that only females were qualified to maintain and keep
the house clean. John s mother, Mary, was known for her exquisite cooking. As described in the
passage, Mary took out of the oven a pan of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

upon. Furthermore, the short story Neighbor Rosicky is a bit more enlightening. We are taught that
women are responsible for the development and outcome of their kids. In the short story Neighbor
Rosicky it quotes, Dat widder woman bring her daughters up very nice (Rosicky, 2). Notice that it is
not the father they credit, it is the mother. Both short stories suggest that women s role in society is to

Why Did Children Join Communism
Education of Soviet Youth and Expansion of Economic Education
Today the word communist often has a negative connotation, however, this was not always the case.
This brings to question why did children choose to join the Communist Party between the years of
1917 to 1936? In the Soviet Union between those years youth were educated to devoutly pledge
allegiance as well as fight for a common cause, communism. Starting education at a young age,
through propaganda posters and school curriculum, influencing and sabotaging a child s perception
was made easier. This aided in recruiting many Soviet youth for the communist party. By analyzing
one propaganda poster from the year 1924 titled Always Prepared! The Next Shift ... Show more

Including black and white as the only colors beside red makes the red pop out more, making it the
focus of the poster. Red became popular beginning in the French Revolution when revolutionist were
depicted wearing a red phrygian cap, creating a stigma of rebellion. Developing from this idea of
rebellion, Russians used red to empower communism, having it represent the blood of the workers
who died in the struggle against capitalism 4. The word red in Russian красивый is also very similar
to the word beautiful in Russian красный 5 indicating that communism is the beautiful cause that
needs to be worked for. Children constantly seeing red would be taught that communism is a must and
they should join the communist party. As well as color symbolism the images depicted on the columns
of the propaganda poster must also be examined to understand what they taught children of the Soviet.
In one image three children are portrayed fixing a windowsill, which helps to indicate that children are
included in the working class, so fighting for liberation of the working class will also include self
liberation. Another image showcases a Soviet child with his arms around two foreigners, in the photo
all participants are smiling representing joy. This adds to the idea of liberation of peasants worldwide.
Communist want socialism to spread globally so linking communism to happiness and broadcasting
universality by having foreigners depicted teaches children to evangelize communism, helping it
spread. The next image that must be addressed is the one illustrating a child hard at work in front of a
desk filled with books. This teaches Soviet youth that education is key to liberation. To properly fight
for the cause, they must be well informed and educated. The final image that should be analyzed is
one representing a

Laid In America Film Analysis
Movies have a lot of work put into them in which us the audience tend to not really pay attention to. In

Lecturer Peter Senge once stated, Knowledge is constructed, not transferred (Callahan). With this one
quote Peter Senge has managed to mock the modern education system. Today s educational
institutions do exactly what Senge says not to; teachers try to transfer knowledge to their students
through lectures, worksheets, and rubrics. This type of instruction, called essentialism, limits student s
creativity. Students are unable to act independently from teacher expectations. Essentialism tends to
have one right answer and only one way of finding this solution. Instruction following this set up will
begin to reduce student perseverance; students become frustrated if they cannot solve the problem the

In order to embrace constructivism in the classroom one must first ask, what is learning, how do
students learn, and how should teachers teach?
Learning can be defined in many different ways. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines learning as,
knowledge or skill acquired by instruction or study and modification of a behavioral tendency by
experience Both definitions are needed when describing learning since both cognitive and behavioral
learning occur. In a constructivist classroom learning can be defined as, humans construct[ing]
knowledge and meaning from their experiences. (The University of Sydney) These classrooms
embraced learning more strongly than classrooms with a behaviorist orientation and far better than
classrooms with a laissez faire teacher (DiGiulio, 2004, p. 54).
Creativity and imagination are abundant among children, especially at the elementary school age.
Many philosophical approaches to education limit creativity and focus on following rules and listening
to instructions. Constructivist teachers refuse to limit students abilities providing students with
freedom of choice. Constructivism allows each student to learn in the style best suited for them,
whether that style is hands on learning, visual learning, or auditory learning, students want to learn.
People learn in many different ways. The most common types of learners are listening, seeing, or
touch learners. Constructivism addresses all three of these learning styles. In a

moods and performance of 29 customer service representatives in a large insurance company over a

to the workplace at the start of the day influence task engagement and performance throughout the day
and how the changes in moods during the interactions with the customers affect the rest of the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Web-Based Education
However, there are a few issues to be dealt with if web based learning is fully implemented in
educational institutions. Firstly, change in learning theories and approaches may lead to confusion or
difficulties among teachers and students (Web based Learning: Good or Bad?). As discussed earlier, in
web based learning approach, teachers are facilitators and motivators. It is up to the students in
carrying out the activities planned by the teachers creatively and constructs their knowledge about the
lesson by themselves with guide from the teachers.
Therefore, some of the students might feel lost especially during the early stages of implementation of

Therefore, implementation of web based learning in educational institutions might be quite difficult

All in all, web based learning leads to some changes in teachers and students role in learning

Analysis Of `` Still I Rise, And Welty s `` A Worn Path ``
Literature offered an approach for African Americans to demonstrate their humanity and an ability for
creative invention and imaginary thought. Writing later developed into an instrument through which
African Americans could voice not only their rejection of institutionalized racism and slavery but also
their desire for equality and freedom. African American literature continues to be a method in
countering the incompetence or misrepresentation of black people in history. Two prominent female
writers during this era were Maya Angelou and Eudora Welty. Angelou was a civil rights activist and
educator and expressed her emotions in her works. Her poem, Still I Rise, was written to describe her
willingness to overcome oppression. Welty expressed black triumph through her character in her short
story, A Worn Path. Although both works tells stories of racial and female empowerment, they express
these ideas in distinctive methods. Angelou s Still I Rise and Welty s A Worn Path are both written
during a time of racial and sexual oppression. Both authors were African American females who grew
up during extreme racial subjugation. Angelou speaks about overcoming oppression and prejudice in
her poem, Still I Rise . She carries a confident tone, assuring that she will overcome her troubles,
asserting, Just like moons and like suns, / With the certainty of tides, / Just like hopes springing high, /
Still, I ll rise (Angelou 10 13). In A Worn Path, the narrator, also an

Louisiana Purchase Influence
What makes the Louisiana Purchase such a defining moment in American history is the very fact that
many of us couldn t imagine our nation without it. Just think about it for a second: How different
would the history of the United States be if the nation s western boundary stopped at the Mississippi
River? It would change the very fabric of how Americans imagine themselves, how the economy of
the country works, and how the nation was shaped. Indeed, many of you reading this right now might
not have even been Americans if not for the Louisiana Purchase.
One of the most central events that influenced the Louisiana Purchase was the Haitian Revolution. The
revolution had started in 1791, when the slaves who had provided the labor on sugar plantations on the
French colony of Saint Domingue (as Haiti was called) revolted against slavery. The slaves, most of

the Spanish and English had begun sending troops to Saint Domingue, hoping to claim some of it for
themselves. So, in 1794, in an effort to keep Saint Domingue, the French decided they would abolish
slavery in all of their colonies. Soon after, Toussaint agreed to keep his supporters loyal to the French.

dorm accommodations, meal on campus or while traveling. Anything above this should be considered
subsidized and is considered in violation of the SAA s governing body.
Introduction
The SAA (Student Athletic Association) is an organization that was developed to protect and keep all
college athletes in an amateur status. The SAA s job is to make sure student athletes are not being
taken advantage of and are remaining true to the student first mission set forth by the SAA College

Television was now involved and issues with recruiting and financial aid where taking on a life of
their own. It seemed that the SAA needed a full time staff just to deal with the complexity of these
problems. In 1952 the SAA was created as we know it today to deal with these complex issues.
Women s Athletics were introduced in 1980, when Divisions II and III established 10 championships
for 1981 82. A year later, the historic 75th Convention adopted an extensive governance plan to
include women s athletics programs, services and representation. (Crowley, 2006)
Discussion
What has happened to the idea of attending college for the sake of an education and playing a sport
that is loved by the athlete to help offset the cost of a college education? That simple thought seems to
be lost as of late as college sports have become a stepping stone for anyone wanting to play a
professional sport. The current dilemma in college athletics is weather to pay, especially football and
basketball athletes extra money while attending college. There has been much discussion and rational
on the subject over the last few years. According to James H. Humphrey, Stress in College Athletics
there are 5 causes of stress among college athletes. 1. Academic Problems, 2.Athletic demands, 3.
Time 4. Relationships with others, 5. Finances (Humphrey, 2000). This is one of

Wholesale Funding, Bank Runs and Liquidity Freezes In the 2007/8 Financial Crisis
Introduction
Banks make loans which are not quickly sold at high price. The demand deposits by Banks issue allow
their depositors to make withdraws at their convenience. Therefore a liquidity mismatch exists
between a bank s liabilities which are more liquid compared to the bank s assets. It leads to a problem
in case a large number of depositors decide to withdraw at the same time. Such a situation is called a
bank run. To prevent bank runs there are policies by the banks to stop runs, while the government
provides deposit insurance for prevention of bank runs. The canonical model of depositor runs by
Diamond and Dybvig (1983) provides an explanation as to why banks issue deposits which have
greater liquidity than the bank s assets and also explain why banks are prone to depositor runs
(Diamond, Dybvig, 1983). This model focuses on bank runs along other financial crises and the
mechanisms to prevent such financial crises. This paper discusses how traditional bank runs is
different from runs in the 2008 financial crisis and the innovation of wholesale funding.
Bank runs
Diamond and Dybvig (1983) provide that the main function of banks is the creation of liquidity. It
means offering deposits which have a higher liquidity compared to the assets they

Computing Of Data And Homomorphic Encryption Essay
Introduction Cloud Services have become more popular as they provide a lot of advantages like high
speed processing ,Flexibility and Disaster recovery. The problem is Security of data and how to ensure
that data being processed at the cloud is secure The motivation behind choosing this topic is the many
advantages of Computing of encrypted data and homomorphic encryption (HE) like Delegation which
is when a client can delegate the process of data to the powerful third party (server) while still
maintaining data privacy. To this end, the client could send the server an encryption of the data,
created employing an HE scheme. The server is able to run processes over the encrypted data, and
return an output to the client; the client needs only to decrypt to receive the processed answer. The
server here can actually be a collection of computing devices (cloud). In addition to delegation, remote
file storage can be more than ever secure with Homomorphic encryption(HE), In a motivating
example, consider a user that wants to run a keyword search on its entire set of encrypted data.
Without HE, since the server can t tell which documents contain the keyword, it would be forced to
send the entire set of encrypted data back to the user, who could decrypt it and look for the keyword.
With HE, however, the server can simply run the keyword search algorithm with the encrypted
keyword and the set of encrypted data, and send an encrypted list of documents containing the
keyword back to the

Calcific or Degenerative Aortic Valve Disease
AORTIC STENOSIS
Calcific or degenerative aortic valve disease is considered one of the most, if not the most, common
valvular lesion encountered among elderly patients.( Iung B, Baron G, Butchart EG, et al.) In fact, as
shown in the Helsinki Aging Study, 501 randomly selected people, men and women, in an age range
from 75 to 86 underwent echocardiography. (Iivanainen AM, Lindroos M, Tilvis R, et al) The outcome
of the research was that, the prevalence of critical aortic stenosis increased with age from 1 to 2
percent in those patients aged between 75 and 76, up to almost 6 percent in those 86 years of age
(Lindroos M, Kupari M, Heikkilä J, Tilvis R.)
The risk factors associated with the development of calcific aortic stenosis in elderly adults are similar
to those for atherosclerosis. Some examples of significant risk factors for the degeneration of aortic
valve disease can be the age of the patient, the gender, current cigarette smoking, hypertension, high
serum concentrations of lipoprotein(a) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol. (Iung B, Baron G,
Butchart EG, et al.)
The two most common causes of aortic stenosis severe enough to require surgery are calcification of
congenital bicuspid aortic valves and degenerative calcification of tricuspid aortic valves (Roberts
WC, Ko JM. ) Aortic valve calcification, scored by computed tomography (CT), can be helpful in
diagnosis of severe aortic stenosis in the patient. (Marincheva Savcheva G, Subramanian S, Qadir S, et
al.)

Comparing Army Of Music And Rich Woman Poor Woman
Over the course of history humans have suffered both mentally and physically from wars to
revolutions. With the thought of war and revolution most people think that soldiers and leaders are the
ones who usually suffer the most. Both of the poems Army of Music and Rich Woman Poor Woman
depict that the innocent civilians suffer the most. Symbolism, figurative imagery, and atmosphere help
provide this claim.
Within both poems the symbolism within them create a sense of sadness behind their hidden
meanings. The main symbol in Army of Music is the actual music depicted within the story but if you
pictured this music as the sound of war and screams it creates a different tone within the story. In the
third stanza the poet wrote Sirens echo through the music but we keep dancing . If you were to change
music to screams and gunfire while dancing to running you could imagine the fear and anguish they
are going through. In Rich Woman Poor Woman, they use the use of two female characters as a way to
contrast their two life styles. The Poet writes We had to eat beans, we had beans (Stanza 4). Little
descriptions like these show how a poor citizen reacts to anything given to her and being grateful ...

The use of similes was a major part of Army of Music such as like stone walls full of holes (Stanza 2)
and like a doorknob locked to song (Stanza 6). The first simile depicts how these innocent people
were put up against a wall and shot; the second simile depicts how the families of the soldiers who
have given their lives have suffered. Rich Woman Poor Woman uses literal imagery to drive their
point with imagery like There were planes overhead and guns firing close (Stanza 8) and they stripped
us of our dignity we had gained and then they raped us (Stanza 10). Both these literal images show

The After World War II
Shortly after World War II most of the European powers that had once held dominion over vast
colonies across the globe found their grips on these territories lessened. Even before the end of the
war, some of these colonies decided to begin preparations to seize their own destinies from the hands
of their masters, and become sovereign entities. One of these colonies was the Dutch East Indies,
which was under Dutch control for more than 150 years. The nation that would form from this freed
colony would be Indonesia, and on August 17th 1945 the Indonesian people declared their sovereignty
and independence from Dutch rule. After four long years of fighting and tense negotiations, the Dutch
finally recognized Indonesian independence at the end of 1949. The President of this new fledgling
nation was a man by the name of Achmad Sukarno, and he would lead this nation through its
revolution in 1945 up until 1967 when he was forced to resign. His reign was one of founding, which
demeaned the idea of parliamentary democracy as inappropriate for the Indonesian people, and so he
adopted a policy known as Guided democracy, a type of autocratic rule. But due to the diversity of
both the people and radical differences of political parties within this new weak state and the uneven
representation of political factions, this governmental system was doomed to fail. The instability of
the new Indonesian government coupled with the attempts of Indonesia s first president to pit different

The Importance Of Crime Scene Investigation And Evidence
Crime Scene Investigation and evidence In a crime investigation, police officers play a key role as
first responders. The action police officers take at the beginning of the crime scene play a vital role in
solving the case. Through and carefulness are the two main thing in an investigation to ensure that
potential physical evidence is not tainted or destroyed, or potential witnesses are not overlooked
(Reno, 2000). Thorough an investigation a crucial factor influencing the ultimate legal significance of
evidence is that investigators follow with an objective, thorough and thoughtful approach (Lewis,
2015). Physical evidence plays a significant role in the criminal justice system. It is considered as the
key element in determining the guilt or innocence of an individual who is being accused of
committing a crime. The uses of evidence in the court of law is very important, therefore, crime scene
investigators must follow a specific protocol when they are collecting evidences. The goal of this
process is the recognize and preserve physical evidence that will yield reliable information to aid in
the investigation (Lewis, 2015). Crime scene investigation CSI is the abbreviation of crime scene
investigation. CSI can be defined as the examination of a scene of a crime for clues or any physical
evidence that may lead investigators towards identifying a criminal suspect. At every crime scene,
there is a story to tell. A crime scene is like a piece of history. Evidence found a

Women Empowerment Paralegal Women
The project wishes to develop the 25 years old experience of paralegal women in an innovative way,
through improving its methodology, expanding its approach and connecting by technology paralegal
women, feminist lawyers and domestic violence s victims. Through a social network and an access
qualified and centralized to information and empowerment, we believe that wiil be easier for a larger
number of women toindentify based gender opression and face it.
Women empowerment means to identify all kinds of oppression based on gender roles and to face it.
This process has two dimensions: individual and collective. At the individual level, access to
information about gender role and its social source lead women to seek for their autonomy and
freedom. When they realize that the female social being is a social construction, nor a changeless

Joint Planning Failures of Operation Anaconda In January 2002, intelligence began reporting on a
heavy concentration of Taliban and al Qaeda forces in and around the Shahikot Valley area of
Afghanistan. With the intelligence available and experience to date, the U.S. Coalition Forces began
planning Operation Anaconda. The end state of U.S. officials was to drive all enemy forces out of their
strongholds within the valley, allowing coalition forces to capture or kill the enemy (2003). Even
though the original plan of three days stretched into a seventeen day battle and resistance was much
greater than expected, military officials hailed Operation Anaconda as a success (Andres, 2007).

The Second Wave Of Feminism And The Gay Liberation Movement
These two films arrive amid the second wave of feminism in the United States. During this time, the
country saw the Post WWII era of family values, and mass consumerism. The civil rights movement
became the topic of discussion throughout the media, and college students across the nation became
political activist. The Vietnam war erupts as the main focus of the mid 60s, and tensions increase even
more as the Gay Liberation Movement blooms into full effect throughout the 60s and 70s. With all the
chaos, women saw themselves as secondary and decided to spark social movements as a way to gain
equality. Gloria Steinem became the face of the movement stating, The truth will set you free. But
first, it will piss you off. The main focus of the second wave of feminism was to gain women s power
and liberation. They sought to expose domestic violence against women, the marriage inequality, child
rearing, divorce, sexual assault, sexual liberation, birth control rights, abortion (Roe v. Wade),
education for women, as well as chattering the glass ceiling in the workplace. These two films could
be said to be a written response to the movement. In the film Halloween, the female characters are
sexually liberated but are consequently tortured for their promiscuity. The women are young, vibrant,
socially aware, and are comfortable with their sexuality. It would be safe to say that these women
would be a part of this movement given the historical context. The women in the film Carrie would

Effective Supervision Requires Establishing Different...
Effective supervision requires establishing different levels of supervision in order to know which
offenders need closer supervision from those who require less supervision (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
Generally, the supervision of offenders is categorized into three or four levels: maximum, medium and
minimum or maximum, high, standard, and administrative (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The
administrative level is for probationers or parolees who have committed minor offenses, satisfied
financial responsibilities, and been in compliance for two years (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
Probationers and parolees on the administrative level do not require a personal visit or personal
contact with the officer (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Individuals on the administrative level are
required to call in and leave a voicemail or mail in a residence verification and employment document
(Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
A caseload is the number of individuals that one probation or parole officer is responsible for and can
supervise effectively (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The number of people that one officer can supervise
varies from state to state (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The more intensive the supervision is the lower
the officer s caseload (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). In Georgia, probation and parole caseloads are
classified under two risk levels of supervision standard and high (Department of Community
Supervision, n.d.). Individuals who have a sex crime conviction will be

What Are The Negative Effects Of Self Perception And...
Over the past 10 years, social networking sites, specifically Facebook, have gained millions of users.
Since these sites are relatively new, there are not many studies involving human interaction on the
Internet in regards to social networking sites. Facebook has many features, including photo sharing,
chatting with friends, and posting status updates. These features decrease in person communications
while increasing total communication (McAndrew Jeong, 2012; Ozmiek Förster, 2017). While there
may be benefits to unlimited online communication, it also has its drawbacks. One of the main
drawbacks is a change in self perception and self esteem after Facebook usage. People tend to
compare themselves with friends, family members, celebrities, or complete strangers (Lee, 2014). Per
the social comparison theory, negative social comparisons, through abilities, emotion, personality
traits, and appearance, can result in a varied perception of the self (de Vries Kühne, 2015; Lee, 2014;
van den Berg Thompson, 2007) and self perception is how people see themselves (de Vries Kühne,
2015). These social comparisons are continually growing with the creation and expanded use of social
networking sites. While Facebook and other sites are extremely popular, especially among adolescents
and young adults, an excessive amount of Facebook use can have a negative effect on self esteem, self
perception, and well being while trying to gain peer acceptance and interpersonal acceptance.

Family Origin Theory In Anne Of Green Gables
Within the movie Anne of Green Gables there is a compelling demonstration of the Family Origin
theory. As Anne Shirley grows up and becomes married she is influenced by the parents who adopted
her. As she is adopted by Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert (who are siblings) when she is eleven years
old, she acquires attributes from each of them that are carried on throughout her life. Although she was
adopted as a young teenager she never truly had a family to begin with so her adoption into this family
became her Family of Origin. The boldness and directness Anne developed came from her mother
Marilla whereas her kind, giving, and hardworking attributes came from her father Matthew. Her
father Matthew created a memory in her life as he died when she was only sixteen. This event
impacted her life immensely as she tried to live like he would. These qualities and memories carried
over into her career as a teacher as well as into her marriage with Gilbert Blythe.
The Family of Origin Theory impacts many individuals as they carry on the attributes found in the
family they originated from. According to the Figure 11.1 in the Marriages and Families textbook,
Anne s family would most likely be classified as a structurally connected family. This theory
encompasses everything from talents, attitudes, values, and their future relationships. Anne Shirley is a
good example of how her family influenced her behavior and choices as she grew older.
As a teacher Anne Shirley encountered many events where she exhibited kindness and courtesy just as
her father did. She gave respect even to the youngest of the students when they were bullied and
picked on during school as well as showing respect in disciplining the bully. She found value in each
of them just as Matthew Cuthbert had in those around him. Anne was also a bold and direct teacher
because of the discipline that came from her mother Marilla. She often stood up for her students when
they felt misunderstood or unwanted. Anne s Family of Origin allowed her to become a better teacher
because of her experiences in her family growing up.
As a young child growing up with Matthew and Marilla, Anne began life with a temper and couldn t
stop accusing others of hurting her and making

Arguments Against Gun Control
In the United States, citizens have debated over whether or not gun control is a good solution in our
country for years. The debates form two sides: one side that s in favor of gun control and one that is
against gun control. As of late, individuals on the pro side pro gun control argued that the numerous
shootings in our nation were mostly because of our country s need for gun control. People would find
that answer reasonable, but in reality, it is an over generalization; there are numerous other variables
that play a portion in horrific event shootings. Those who are against gun control have claimed that
gun control laws violate citizen s constitutional rights. Numerous citizens would say that neither both
in favor and against gun control is right, but when the facts are displayed it is self evident that gun
control is not a great solution since guns don t kill people, people kill people . Stopping criminals and
put more priority on their punishment is a better solution than restricting citizens the right to own
firearms and taking them away. Gun control should be reduced in the United States because it s our
constitutional right, armed citizens prevent most crimes, and countries with high gun control have
high crime rates.
The Constitution of United States of America is what gives citizens rights. It has over twenty seven
amendments, but one of them affects gun control. The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights states
that A well regulated militia, being necessary to

Hate Groups Research Paper
There is so much hate in this world. To add onto that hate, there are many hate groups. The hate group
that I am writing about is the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Another name for this group is
Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL). ISIS and ISIL are the same group. This group is made up of
Islamic extremists who believe the world should be under Sharia Law. Sharia Law means, One
political and religious leader over all. ISIS has many other beliefs, the qualifications to belong to this
group can be brutal, and the present day hate is awful. This group s roots trace back to Abu Musab al
Zarqawi, a Jordanian who set up Jihad in 2002. A year after the United States invaded Iraq, Zarqawi
pledged allegiance to Osama Bin Laden, and founded Al Qaeda in Iraq. After Zarqawi s death his
followers created an umbrella organization ISI, or Islamic State in Iraq. In 2003 the Islamic State
renamed itself to the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant. Now ISIS is using propaganda to recruit
Westerners to their cause. Most people who are being recruited have no connection to ISIS, or Syria at
all. There is no initiation process to join ISIS. One just has to be willing to commit acts of terror, and
be a cold blooded killer. To be recruited one must find a Jihadi mentor. The ... Show more content on

What Is Millward s View On The Silk Road

three points that solidify his point of view. Idea one is, Yet the idea of the Silk Road or silk roads has
come to mean many things beyond brocades and caravans, and in its broadest concept...it stands for
the idea that humanity has thrived most when connected across its far flung habits by the exchange of
goods, ideas, art, and people. (Millward pg. 2) This brings to light the ideas that the Silk Road was
more than just a one lane path of which silk fabric and pasta was traded along. Later in that same

(Trautmann pg. 128) The culture of India was impacted by the trading of the Silk Road, common
Indian jewelry contained gold and red coral of which came from the Mediterranean as it was the only

languages, with Indian religions came the study of Sanskrit and Pali the formations of scripts based on
Indian ones, scripts that continue today in Burma, Thailand, and Cambodia. (pg. 136) It is seen that

  • 2. Robert Agnew General Strain Theory Throughout history a lot of experts have tried to understand why some people feel the need to commit crimes, even though there have been harsh laws enforced for those who commit crimes. These people have come up with theories as to why people commit crimes to understand these theories, we must understand what a crime is and understand the definition of theories. Crime is a human conduct that violates the laws of a state or the federal government. There are different ways people view criminal behaviors either through the view of the social problem perspective which blames the society and the social responsibility which blames the person who committed the crime. Through these two perspectives we get the idea of theories. A theory is a comprehensive explanation about certain experiences which are based on facts that have been gathered overtime. These theories explain the mental reason people are more pushed to commit crimes. Theories like Robert Agnews General Strain Theory has given us an explanation as to phenomena criminal behavior. In 1992 strain theory was reformulated by Robert Agnew and called the general strain theory. Agnew felt as though that strain theory was not fully explaining the main reason people are pushed to commit crimes, so he came up with a theory he felt was a better explanation and a reason as to why crimes were committed. The concept of general strain theory comes from the idea that people commit crimes to use it as a means of copping with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lena Horne Singer/actress Lena Horne s primary occupation was nightclub entertaining, a profession she pursued successfully around the world for more than 60 years, from the 1930s to the 1990s. In conjunction with her club work, she also maintained a recording career that stretched from 1936 to 2000 and brought her three Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1989; she appeared in 16 feature films and several shorts between 1938 and 1978; she performed occasionally on Broadway, including in her own Tony winning one woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music in 1981 1982; and she sang and acted on radio and television. Adding to the challenge of maintaining such a career was her position as an African American facing discrimination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jones owed his job a clerk in the county coroner s office to political patronage. It did not bring in much money, and in 1938, when Horne was approached by an agent with an offer to co star in a low budget all black movie musical with a mere ten day shooting schedule in Hollywood, she accepted. The film was The Duke Is Tops, released in July 1938. Later in the year, Horne was asked to take on a more time consuming project, a part in a new mounting of producer Lew Leslie s all black musical revue Blackbirds. Again, she accepted in the name of increasing the family income, spending months in rehearsals and out of town tryouts before Lew Leslie s Blackbirds of 1939 opened on Broadway on February 11, 1939. One of Horne s numbers was You re So Indifferent, written by Sammy Fain and Mitchell Parish, a song she would keep in her repertoire. The show ran only nine performances, closing February 18. Horne returned to Pittsburgh, where she temporarily separated from her husband, then reconciled with him. She began taking singing engagements in the homes of wealthy families in the area. She also became pregnant again, and her son, Edwin Fletcher ( Teddy ) Jones, was born in February 1940. That fall, she made a final separation from her husband (they were formally divorced in June 1944) and moved to New York to restart her career. In December, she accepted an offer to join the ... • 4. Mrs. Hanson s Life Mrs. Hanson was the first to use it, when she realized that the moon, when full, hung centered in the top right pane, and the summer evening breezes seemed always to find their way through it. Nights she would sit, rocking baby Chance to sleep, the bicycle bells, and laughter, and ice cream trucks the only things that seemed to lull him into sleep. Not singing, not the music box, only the scattered, mingling of sounds from the city street below. So she kept the rocker near the window, and on full moon summer nights, she would sit with her baby boy, both of them soothed and calmed by what lay beyond. And she sang anyway, to herself, as much as the boy. Hush little baby, don t say word... That s when the townhouse was just that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the rocker. Rocking. Beneath a quiet summer moon. Skye Kenwood rented the apartment on the top floor as soon as the building became available. She didn t mind the four floor walk up, she d rather be above looking down. It was the windows that drew her to the apartment, mounted in the curved, bay wall of the building, and rising to nearly the ceiling. She knew right away that she would make a bay window seat for the one on the left, where the breeze seemed always to billow the curtains there. In the spring she would sit on that seat with her sketch pad, looking down on the life below, scurrying and hurrying, like blood vessels through a vein. Sometimes she would lift the screen and sprinkle bird seed on the small ledge outside, then sit and wait for any takers. Mostly there were pigeons, but occasionally she fed a sparrow or two, or on a truly fortuitous day, a mourning dove would settle there and coo his melancholy song. But moments as such would last only as long as her ambitious feline remained ignorant of the potential prey s existence. Skye soon found there were fewer places she d rather be than on her perch, nestled on pillows, watching the world in its never ending, maddening ballet. Skye made her home there for nearly four years, painting the molding around the windows, hanging stained glass ovals where the morning sun would have little choice but to pass through them on its way to her sofa. • 5. Mystery Powder Experiment Starting our hypothesis was that it was cornstarch, according to all of the data we collected in table 2(example at bottom of page). When we just looked at the substance it had a powder like appearance with no real specific way of being arranged. Then we started with each test of the powder first the simple close up look test using the microscope this showed us basically what we had seen with our eyes in a little more detail from this we found that it was what we had seen a powder like substance with no real arrangement but the only difference was two crystals within the powder. Next we moved on to the more complex test like the vinegar test in this test when the vinegar was mixed with the substance it did not really mix at all the vinegar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immediately we count off baking soda, salt, and sugar because in the first test with the microscope, they show all crystal arrangements unlike the powder in our mystery. Then we go on to count off the plaster of Paris because in the vinegar test, it does the opposite of our mystery powder, it mixed with the vinegar while our powder sat on top and started to harden. At this point we are down to flour and corn starch these two show the same results in the iodine test the both turn into a thick black gel. Continuing on to the heat test they show generally the same, but the flour starts to smoke unlike the corn starch just turning brown after a while, but this is still a pretty close difference between the two so then we go back to the vinegar test where the corn starch sat on top and hardened the flour just sat on top of the vinegar so now this is two differences we have found comparing the flour to our mystery powder. In the end the one that had all the same results as the mystery powder was the corn starch this proves our hypothesis to be correct but there should be more to our hypothesis because the crystals found in the substance therefore it must have one of the crystal substances in it also such as baking soda, salt, sugar or plaster of ... Troilus And Cressida Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet In Chaucer s Troilus and Cressida and Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet both emphasize two love stories between two people and highlights the tragic events that occured. In Repetition and Revision in Shakespeare s Tragic Love Plays by McInnis states, the facts are the same but the interpretations are at variance (34). Both of these stories focused on the issues, decisions, and overall outcomes in their relationship that lead to their downfall. Troilus and Cressida compared to Romeo and Juliet are tragic love stories that are problematized by circumstances beyond the control of the lovers. Both characters kept coming up with possible paths or plans and not doing anything about it. It shows that they both had an active role of their relationships withering away and resulting in a negative outcome. They passively resign themselves to their own suffering. Even though they were both in love when it came to trying to fight for the relationship or keep is alive, it was non existent. It was a reptitive patter througout the play and sugesst that even though they were in love, they were never strong or brave enough to fight for what they want. Which is ironic as Troilous was the son of King Priam. As McInnis states, The events conform to the generic pattern, ....unprecedented betrayal scene for the illusion of hope contributes to the bleak atmosphere of the play, in which events are so clearly fated that there is not even any tragic irony to cling to for sustenance (46). Most of his outrageous plans came from Troilus, all because of Cressida. One example is when Troilus believed that Cressida has died, he was prepared to commit suicide. Troilus viewed himself as incompetent because he was not capable to handle Cressida. However, she was not dead. Cressida was held in the greek camp, and was wooed by her new lover, the Greek guard Diomedes. Hunger of Memory Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodríguez Hunger of Memory is an autobiography of the writer Richard Rodríguez and his transition from youth to manhood told through a series of recollected stories. Following that summer, he declared the curse of physical shame was broken by the sun; I was no longer ashamed of my body. In 1967 African American civil rights leaders brought attention to the mediocre education that black students in high school were receiving and how it was not properly preparing them for college. This also sparked Hispanic American activists to complain that there were not enough Hispanics attending college, concluding that this too was because of racism. • 9. Neighbour Rosicky And A Rose For Emily In the two short stories, A Rose for Emily and Neighbor Rosicky , the authors portray a women s role in family and society similarly. Faulkner and Cather both show the day to day lives of women as the cook, cleaner, and manager of their household. In society, women take on a gender role that dictates the kind of behaviors that are considered normal. Faulkner and Cather also assert that it is not normal for a woman to work outside of the home. In fact, working outside the home is frowned upon as a form of aberrant behavior. A woman is to be the house manager, a wife and mother, and to pass down her knowledge to the youth. In each of the stories it states that woman are in charge of keeping the house in order. When Emily vanished from her house, leaving only her male servant in charge, a putrid smell had started to develop. The women of the town gossiped and whispered, Just as if a man any man could keep a kitchen properly (Rose, 3). The women believed that only females were qualified to maintain and keep the house clean. John s mother, Mary, was known for her exquisite cooking. This brings to question why did children choose to join the Communist Party between the years of 1917 to 1936? In the Soviet Union between those years youth were educated to devoutly pledge allegiance as well as fight for a common cause, communism. This type of instruction, called essentialism, limits student s creativity. Students are unable to act independently from teacher expectations. In a constructivist classroom learning can be defined as, humans construct[ing] knowledge and meaning from their experiences. The French were right to fear this. As the rebellion escalated, the Spanish and English had begun sending troops to Saint Domingue, hoping to claim some of it for themselves. So, in 1794, in an effort to keep Saint Domingue, the French decided they would abolish slavery in all of their colonies. Soon after, Toussaint agreed to keep his supporters loyal to the French. The demand deposits by Banks issue allow their depositors to make withdraws at their convenience. Therefore a liquidity mismatch exists between a bank s liabilities which are more liquid compared to the bank s assets. It leads to a problem in case a large number of depositors decide to withdraw at the same time. Such a situation is called a bank run. Computing Of Data And Homomorphic Encryption Essay Introduction Cloud Services have become more popular as they provide a lot of advantages like high speed processing ,Flexibility and Disaster recovery. The problem is Security of data and how to ensure that data being processed at the cloud is secure The motivation behind choosing this topic is the many advantages of Computing of encrypted data and homomorphic encryption (HE) like Delegation which is when a client can delegate the process of data to the powerful third party (server) while still maintaining data privacy. To this end, the client could send the server an encryption of the data, created employing an HE scheme. The server is able to run processes over the encrypted data, and return an output to the client; the client needs only to decrypt to receive the processed answer. The server here can actually be a collection of computing devices (cloud). In addition to delegation, remote file storage can be more than ever secure with Homomorphic encryption(HE), In a motivating example, consider a user that wants to run a keyword search on its entire set of encrypted data. Without HE, since the server can t tell which documents contain the keyword, it would be forced to send the entire set of encrypted data back to the user, who could decrypt it and look for the keyword. With HE, however, the server can simply run the keyword search algorithm with the encrypted keyword and the set of encrypted data, and send an encrypted list of documents containing the keyword back to the ... With the thought of war and revolution most people think that soldiers and leaders are the ones who usually suffer the most. Both of the poems Army of Music and Rich Woman Poor Woman depict that the innocent civilians suffer the most. Symbolism, figurative imagery, and atmosphere help provide this claim. Within both poems the symbolism within them create a sense of sadness behind their hidden meanings. • 29. The Second Wave Of Feminism And The Gay Liberation Movement These two films arrive amid the second wave of feminism in the United States. During this time, the country saw the Post WWII era of family values, and mass consumerism. The civil rights movement became the topic of discussion throughout the media, and college students across the nation became political activist. The Vietnam war erupts as the main focus of the mid 60s, and tensions increase even more as the Gay Liberation Movement blooms into full effect throughout the 60s and 70s. With all the chaos, women saw themselves as secondary and decided to spark social movements as a way to gain equality. Gloria Steinem became the face of the movement stating, The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off. The main focus of the second wave of feminism was to gain women s power and liberation. They sought to expose domestic violence against women, the marriage inequality, child rearing, divorce, sexual assault, sexual liberation, birth control rights, abortion (Roe v. Wade), education for women, as well as chattering the glass ceiling in the workplace. These two films could be said to be a written response to the movement. In the film Halloween, the female characters are sexually liberated but are consequently tortured for their promiscuity. The women are young, vibrant, socially aware, and are comfortable with their sexuality. It would be safe to say that these women would be a part of this movement given the historical context. The women in the film Carrie would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Effective Supervision Requires Establishing Different... Effective supervision requires establishing different levels of supervision in order to know which offenders need closer supervision from those who require less supervision (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Generally, the supervision of offenders is categorized into three or four levels: maximum, medium and minimum or maximum, high, standard, and administrative (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The administrative level is for probationers or parolees who have committed minor offenses, satisfied financial responsibilities, and been in compliance for two years (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Probationers and parolees on the administrative level do not require a personal visit or personal contact with the officer (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Individuals on the administrative level are required to call in and leave a voicemail or mail in a residence verification and employment document (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). A caseload is the number of individuals that one probation or parole officer is responsible for and can supervise effectively (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The number of people that one officer can supervise varies from state to state (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The more intensive the supervision is the lower the officer s caseload (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). In Georgia, probation and parole caseloads are classified under two risk levels of supervision standard and high (Department of Community Supervision, n.d.). • 31. What Are The Negative Effects Of Self Perception And... Over the past 10 years, social networking sites, specifically Facebook, have gained millions of users. Since these sites are relatively new, there are not many studies involving human interaction on the Internet in regards to social networking sites. Facebook has many features, including photo sharing, chatting with friends, and posting status updates. These features decrease in person communications while increasing total communication (McAndrew Jeong, 2012; Ozmiek Förster, 2017). While there may be benefits to unlimited online communication, it also has its drawbacks. One of the main drawbacks is a change in self perception and self esteem after Facebook usage. People tend to compare themselves with friends, family members, celebrities, or complete strangers (Lee, 2014). Per the social comparison theory, negative social comparisons, through abilities, emotion, personality traits, and appearance, can result in a varied perception of the self (de Vries Kühne, 2015; Lee, 2014; van den Berg Thompson, 2007) and self perception is how people see themselves (de Vries Kühne, 2015). These social comparisons are continually growing with the creation and expanded use of social networking sites. While Facebook and other sites are extremely popular, especially among adolescents and young adults, an excessive amount of Facebook use can have a negative effect on self esteem, self perception, and well being while trying to gain peer acceptance and interpersonal acceptance. ... • 32. Family Origin Theory In Anne Of Green Gables Within the movie Anne of Green Gables there is a compelling demonstration of the Family Origin theory. As Anne Shirley grows up and becomes married she is influenced by the parents who adopted her. As she is adopted by Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert (who are siblings) when she is eleven years old, she acquires attributes from each of them that are carried on throughout her life. Although she was adopted as a young teenager she never truly had a family to begin with so her adoption into this family became her Family of Origin. The boldness and directness Anne developed came from her mother Marilla whereas her kind, giving, and hardworking attributes came from her father Matthew. Her father Matthew created a memory in her life as he died when she was only sixteen. This event impacted her life immensely as she tried to live like he would. These qualities and memories carried over into her career as a teacher as well as into her marriage with Gilbert Blythe. The Family of Origin Theory impacts many individuals as they carry on the attributes found in the family they originated from. According to the Figure 11.1 in the Marriages and Families textbook, Anne s family would most likely be classified as a structurally connected family. This theory encompasses everything from talents, attitudes, values, and their future relationships. Anne Shirley is a good example of how her family influenced her behavior and choices as she grew older. As a teacher Anne Shirley encountered many events where she exhibited kindness and courtesy just as her father did. She gave respect even to the youngest of the students when they were bullied and picked on during school as well as showing respect in disciplining the bully. She found value in each of them just as Matthew Cuthbert had in those around him. Anne was also a bold and direct teacher because of the discipline that came from her mother Marilla. She often stood up for her students when they felt misunderstood or unwanted. Anne s Family of Origin allowed her to become a better teacher because of her experiences in her family growing up. As a young child growing up with Matthew and Marilla, Anne began life with a temper and couldn t stop accusing others of hurting her and making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Arguments Against Gun Control In the United States, citizens have debated over whether or not gun control is a good solution in our country for years. The debates form two sides: one side that s in favor of gun control and one that is against gun control. As of late, individuals on the pro side pro gun control argued that the numerous shootings in our nation were mostly because of our country s need for gun control. People would find that answer reasonable, but in reality, it is an over generalization; there are numerous other variables that play a portion in horrific event shootings. Those who are against gun control have claimed that gun control laws violate citizen s constitutional rights. Numerous citizens would say that neither both in favor and against gun control is right, but when the facts are displayed it is self evident that gun control is not a great solution since guns don t kill people, people kill people . Stopping criminals and put more priority on their punishment is a better solution than restricting citizens the right to own firearms and taking them away. Gun control should be reduced in the United States because it s our constitutional right, armed citizens prevent most crimes, and countries with high gun control have high crime rates. The Constitution of United States of America is what gives citizens rights. It has over twenty seven amendments, but one of them affects gun control. The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights states that A well regulated militia, being necessary to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Hate Groups Research Paper There is so much hate in this world. To add onto that hate, there are many hate groups. The hate group that I am writing about is the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Another name for this group is Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL). ISIS and ISIL are the same group. This group is made up of Islamic extremists who believe the world should be under Sharia Law. Sharia Law means, One political and religious leader over all. ISIS has many other beliefs, the qualifications to belong to this group can be brutal, and the present day hate is awful. This group s roots trace back to Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian who set up Jihad in 2002. A year after the United States invaded Iraq, Zarqawi pledged allegiance to Osama Bin Laden, and founded Al Qaeda in Iraq. After Zarqawi s death his followers created an umbrella organization ISI, or Islamic State in Iraq. In 2003 the Islamic State renamed itself to the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant. Now ISIS is using propaganda to recruit Westerners to their cause. Most people who are being recruited have no connection to ISIS, or Syria at all. There is no initiation process to join ISIS. One just has to be willing to commit acts of terror, and be a cold blooded killer. To be recruited one must find a Jihadi mentor. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. What Is Millward s View On The Silk Road From the view point of author James A. Millward, The Silk Road was more than caravans and tents, it was an ancient form of globalization, and it was more than just a one lane road. Millward brings up three points that solidify his point of view. Idea one is, Yet the idea of the Silk Road or silk roads has come to mean many things beyond brocades and caravans, and in its broadest concept...it stands for the idea that humanity has thrived most when connected across its far flung habits by the exchange of goods, ideas, art, and people. It is a useful metaphor by which to think about the wider world beyond India proper, that was affected by India and that bears durable marks of its influences. (Trautmann pg. 128) The culture of India was impacted by the trading of the Silk Road, common Indian jewelry contained gold and red coral of which came from the Mediterranean as it was the only place the coral of that hue could be found. In exchange they received gemstones, pearls, ivory, steel sword blades, bronze vessels, and textiles. Textiles from India have been found in numerous countries including Egypt where an Indian block print cotton fabric from Gujarat dating about the 11th century was found (pg. 139) Not only were material objects traded on the Silk Road but so were ideas and languages, with Indian religions came the study of Sanskrit and Pali the formations of scripts based on Indian ones, scripts that continue today in Burma, Thailand, and Cambodia.
