The Queens Museum in New York
At 111th Street and 49th Avenue in Flushing, Queens, NY houses a grand architecture of
knowledge and wisdom; The Queens Museum. According to the Museum s website, the building
architected and renovated by Daniel Chait and was used for the 1964 World s Fair as the New
York City Pavilion. Eight years later minor alterations were made to the north side of the New York
Citybuilding and was converted into the QueensCenter for Art and Culture, which was later called
the Queens Museum of Art. The magnificent beautiful building, in 1972, it opened to serve as a
cultural center for the boroughof Queens. The building then had further renovation, in 1994 by
architect Rafael ViГ±oly reconfiguring the structure into galleries, classrooms, and offices. The
Queens Museum is housed in the New York City Building that was constructed for the 1939 World
s Fair that hosted the United Nations General Assembly 1946 50. Situated in the one of the most
diverse county within the five boroughs, the Queens Museum has focused on outreach and access
for a wide range of audiences. The museum is known for international contemporary art exhibitions
that reflect the hyper diversity of the borough. The museum s Education Department is the first in
America to employ art therapists in a dedicated, fully accessible classroom. The Queens Museum is
simultaneously a fine arts collecting museum, historical site, community center, and educational
classroom. Museum hours are September to June are Wednesday to

Termites Reaction Lab
Eastern subterranean termites are insects with a well ordered social system whose members are
characterized by different castes such as the queen and king for reproduction and the workers
who are responsible for building shelter and finding food (Laboratory Manual, 87). When a
worker finds a food source it leaves a trail on the ground with its pheromones which acts like a
temporary signal, so other workers can follow and find the same food source (Laboratory Manual,
87). Certain pens have chemicals in their ink that mimics the pheromones, which can cause the
termites to follow the paths that has been drawn (Laboratory Manual, 87). The purpose of this
experiment is to discover which pen the chemical that mimics the pheromone. I think the black
marker will be the pen that the termites follow because it has a distinct smell and it s the darkest
line. In this experiment we had three pens, a green highlighter, a blue pen, a black marker and six...

To get the termites out of the container they were in we used a small paint brush that came from
a watercolor painting set, and we slowly picked them up and put them on the paper. As soon as
the termites reached the paper they started roaming around. They didn t go anywhere near the
figure we drew. Next we slowly picked them up with the small paint brush and put them on the
paper with the thick green highlighter figure eight. They did the same thing as they did with the
black magic marker, they just roamed around the paper. Then we put them on the paper with the
blue pen. They roamed around for about half of a second, then they were following the path of the
blue pen. We watched them for five minutes and they never left the blue pens figure eight. When
we tried to pick them up off of the paper to put them back in their container we had some trouble

The Second Alliance And The Triple Entente
The time leading up to the first world war was a time of make alliances. These alliances started
out as small agreements between countries turned into a force that divided the major powers of
Europe into two alliances. These alliance were the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente.
Agreements made within these alliances help to pave the way to the war. The first of these
alliances that was formed was the Triple Alliance. It was formed in secrecy in may of 1882. This
alliance was made up of Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. (Kann) Although Germany and
Austria hungary were allies before the formation of the Triple Alliance, Italy was not added into
the Alliance until they wanted assistance with France. France at this time beat out Italy in obtain
some of North Africa. (Britanica) The terms of this alliance were that if Italy was ever attacked by
France, Germany and Austria Hungary would come to its assistance. It also stated that, if Germany
was attacked by France then Italy would come in to help them. Finally they agreed that Italy would
have to stay neutral if Austria Hungary ever got into a war with Russia. The alliance was renewed
again in the february of 1887. This time, in addition to the agreements that were already made,
Germany told Italy that it would help them in North Africa ( even though they never had any
intentions of doing so). Germany also convinced Austria Hungary to continue their alliance with
Italy even during the dispute over land they were

The Treatment of Whistleblowers Essay
It used to be that whistleblowers were applauded, and they still are in the private sector, but it
seems as if government whistleblowers are criticized and many are even criminally charged.
There is certainly a different take on their activities. In fact, some advocates counsel federal
employees not to come forward with information because if they do, their lives will be destroyed
(Shulman, 2007). What often happens is that they will never be able to work in their careers again
in the same capacity (Shulman, 2007). Many whistleblowers not only lose their jobs, but they lose
their families and friends, and much of their money ends up going to attorneys (Shulman, 2007).
Indeed, in today s day and age, there is a surge of whistleblowers... Show more content on

It can take awhile for someone to speak up, and the hesitancy is largely due to a corporate culture
that does not support the practice. It should be noted that there are whistle blowing statutes in
many jurisdictions where an employee is allowed to report illegal activity and will be protected
from being fired (Larson, 2003). Indeed, whistle blowing is largely encouraged in society in
general as the government wants people to come forward when the giants of Corporate America are
doing something bad. Of course, when it comes to leaking government secrets that is a different
matter entirely. The National Whistleblowers Center says that under Section 403 of the Intelligence
Authorization Act, the head of an employee s agency may accuse a whistleblower of leaking
classified information (Burghardt, 2011). If this were to occur, the simple accusation could lead
to the individual s blocking of access to federal pensions, and this is true even if they are in
retirement (Burghardt, 2011). One case that involves a whistleblower who has been ostracized is
Thomas Drake. Drake is a former National Security Agency (NSA) employee (Bishop, 2011). The
government pursued him for years, and eventually he would plead guilty to just one misdemeanor
in that he used a computer without authorization (Bishop, 2011). What did Drake do exactly? Why
is he considered to be a whistleblower and why has he been persecuted by the government? Drake

War Of The North Vietnamese And Viet Cong
In late 1967, the United States (US) military created a narrative about their activities in Vietnam
that led the American public to believe that the US was winning against the Communist forces of
the North Vietnamese (NVA) and Viet Cong (VC). This narrative remained unchanged, and was in
fact reinforced, despite the interception of intelligence detailing plans for a major offensive
operation in South Vietnam. The Communist forces planned to stage a major operation in order to
ensure a final victory over the US and allied forces and to provoke a popular uprising. A close
examination of US Department of State archives, research papers from various military colleges,
and primary source material from the Intelligence Community (IC),... Show more content on

A main component of the operation was the reliance on the South Vietnamese population revolting,
the government collapsing, and the communist forces being welcomed in the south as liberators.
The establishment of a pro Communist regime would come as an after effect of unit mutinies and
defections, mass popular revolts, and the annihilation...[of] the opposing military forces (Cosmas,
2009). The NVA/VC were planning on leveraging all their possible assets in order to ensure
victory. This would not solely be a ground fight the Politburo in the North had decided to wager
everything on the outcome of this battle, seemingly believing the US narrative of an approaching
victory for the Americans. In addition to the very strong military attacks that would shift control of
cities and towns, the NVA/VC would disseminate propaganda amongst the populace but
specifically target the enemy officers and enlisted personnel (Turner, 1992). One of the primary
goals of General Offensive/General Uprising was to provoke a popular uprising but the exact
opposite came about. Buoyed by the energetic response by the government of President Thieu and
the respectable fighting of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, popular support ended up
increasing for the government in Saigon. This represented a clear strategic failure for the NVA.

Crest Toothpaste Essay
The Crest brand of toothpaste has a longstanding history of over 50 years. Being the first to
develop fluoride effective in preventing cavities and tooth decay, it served as a major scientific
breakthrough and has been a trusted product throughout the years. Today, it continues to make
advancements towards dental hygiene, and has also developed several other products to assist in
complete oral care.
The Crest product line includes toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, whitening products, and
mouthwash. Each of these products has several variations, creating a program of oral care for
everyone.
In developing a marketing plan, there are several questions that Proctor and Gamble must ask

Finally, with the knowledge that as people travel they may forget to pack their dental hygiene
products, they may also make it available in hotel gift shops across the world.
Deciding a price for the product is a very important step. If the price is too high, consumers may
opt for the less expensive alternative, even though Crest has such a strong, longstanding
tradition. Setting the price too low may make consumers wonder why the leader in oral care is
selling their products lower than others, and may opt for another option due to a
discombobulating combination of a trusted product and a lower than average price. Therefore, a
price slightly above average would be the best option, as it would relay to consumers that it is a
leader in the industry that should be strongly considered, and the difference in price would reflect
added value. Finally, as oral care is an inelastic product, as the economy changes the price may
fluctuate and the demand should not be affected.
Lastly, Proctor and Gamble must decide how to promote the product. As they are credited for the
scientific breakthrough of the effects of fluoride on cavity and tooth decay prevention, P G should
certainly make this known. This will create a general respect for the product, and a strong sense of
trust. Visual advertisements are a strong force that should be considered. Television commercials

International Emergency Powers Act ( Iepa )
On November 4, 1979, Iranian revolutionaries stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and took
several Americans hostage . President Carter subsequently issued executive order 12170, under the
provision of the International Emergency Powers Act (IEPA), which froze all Iranian
governmental assets within the jurisdiction of the United States . 444 days later Iran agreed to
release the hostages in exchange for the return of their seized funds and the dismissal of all legal
proceedings of US nationals against Iran and... judgments via those pending proceedings ; this
agreement is the basis for the Algiers Accords . Executiveorders serve as immediate control
measures for crises but often warrant criticism and further examination.
Before the hostage crisis, Dames Moore Cooperation filed lawsuits against numerous Iranian
governmental agencies. Dames was already furious about slow progress of their case in early 1980,
but Carter s executive order effectively forced the cooperation to relegate the case with the newly
formed Claims Tribunal. Dames doubted the constitutionality of the executive actions arguing that
they exceeded constitutional limitations, so he challenged the executive order directly . Because of
the severity of the events surrounding the executive order, the case was sent directly to the
Supreme Court. Ultimately, the Court upheld executive order 12170; the issues of fund transfer
and suspension of legal claims both proved legal under the IEPA and congressional

An Exploration Of The Pepcon Disaster And Its Aftermath
An Exploration of the PEPCON Disaster And Its Aftermath What began as normal repair work at
the Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON) in May of 1988, resulted
in devastation. PEPCON was one of two manufacturing facilities of Ammonium Perchlorate (AP),
located in Clark County, NV, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas (Lilley,
2012). AP is an oxidizer that when combined with aluminum makes the base for solid state rocket
fuel (Dunbar, 2006). Due to the recent Space Shuttle Challengerdisaster, all space exploration by
NASA was halted, and a stockpile of around 4,000 tons of AP built up and was stored onsite

4). Each of these materials is makes AP act as a class A explosive as explained in Appendix B.
Also, within many buildings at the PEPCON facility, dust control was either minimal or
nonexistent, while cleaning was only performed before safety inspections (Lambert Alvares,
2003, p.7). This led to massive AP buildups on all flat surfaces which it is assumed exasperated
the situation further once the fire started (Lambert Alvares, 2003, p.7). The incredibly risky storage
practices of this powerful oxidizer made PEPCON a disaster waiting to happen.
The Facility And Its Safety Features The PEPCON facility was broken up into multiple
buildings, the most important of which to this incident is the batch drying building located in
the southwest portion of the facility (map of PEPCON is attached as Appendix A) (Routley,
n.d., p. 22). The batch dryer was used to blend and dry AP to prepare it for final packing,
however, this facility was not suitable for this work due to its construction. The building was
constructed of combustible fiberglass with steel supports (Routley, n.d., p.8). AP residue built up
on the fiberglass and accelerated the fire out of control once it started (Routley, n.d., p.8). This risk
was known by PEPCON as there had been previous fires in this building, however nothing was
done to deter future fires (Case

Going to Thailand was dangerous and risky. My parents snuck onto the back of delivery trucks,

they rode bikes through a secret path and got onto a truck that took them into the country. The
emigration from Cambodia and into Thailand was so secretive because Cambodia did not allow
their residents to leave the country at the time.

What Ford is saying is that the students just don t really care to complete the course and just
quit. These students are very unmotivated to complete the course. Ford goes on to say when
talking about an algebra class offered online, 90 percent of those coming directly from high
school failed the course (134). Early Ford mentioned that this algebra class was offered for 150
dollars. Not only are the classes inexpensive but they allow students to take the class whenever,
whenever, if ever.
One of the biggest concerns about online education today is something that Thomas Friedman
calls the ambition gap (354). The new American generations are becoming less motivated and
less ambitious than the rest of the world. Not only is sending american jobs to other countries
cheaper but the individuals are much more productive and willing to do the work. Education

Howler monkeys are infamous for their extremely loud calls that can be heard from several

one of the most studied howler monkey species. The mantled howler monkey taxonomy shows that
it falls under the Haplorhini suborder and the Plattyrhine (New World Monkey) infraorder. It then
falls under the Atelidae family and the Alouatta genus. The mantled howler monkey can be
separated easily from other howler monkey species in the Alouatta genus by its coloration and the
long guard hairs located on its sides, for which it received its species common name mantled
(Henderson, 2000). There are three recognized subspecies of Alouatta palliate (Rylands et al.,...

This is supported by the fact that there is both a high level of ecological competition and high
dispersal rates (Jones, 1980). As mentioned previously, when reaching sexual maturity male and
female both generally disperse from their natal groups (Campbell and Di Fiore, 2005). A
consequence of this is that most social groups are composed of non related individuals. There have
been few studies done to better understand the reasons for this phenomenon. This phenomenon
could be observed for several reasons that are commonly found in other primate species. Dispersal
of females is likely due to avoid the harm of inbreeding within the group. Also, the dispersal of
males is likely due the search of better mate finding opportunities in other groups. Besides these
two more classical theories there is one other theory that might better explain dispersal of both
sexes. Glander (1992) proposes that competition against a less related individual for the role of
the alpha position would be more favorable than competition between a closely related kin.
Unlike the other two hypotheses, this hypothesis has been supported by data that members are
more likely to survive when they join a group with no closely related kin. If we followed the
inclusive fitness theory we would expect to see that older members of the group would disperse,

TNCs dominate industrial production including manufacturing and services, therefore further
dividing the gap between the rich and the poor, and being the main leader of globalisation as a
consequence. TNCs work to meet the demand for its good from HICs. For example, Toyota, like
many other TNCs undertakes much of its manufacturing in LICs in order to meet the high and
constant demand from HICs. Manufacturing in LICs is preferred as it provides these large
companies with cheap labour. Toyota was recorded as the fifth largest TNC in 2010. It has 51
overseas manufacturing companies in 26 countries and regions, it has Design and Research and
Development centres in the USA, Japan, Belgium, the UK, France, Thailand and Australia, and its
headquarters are in Japan. Globalisation inevitably increases pressure to liberalise trade and to
eliminate tariffs and non trade barriers. Liberalisation of trade within OPEC clearly resulted in
China (an NIC) for example, gaining a comparative advantage over the US (MIC) in the
manufacture of machinery products. Globalisation has also been a resulting factor for the dramatic

Business System Planning For Indian Railways For The...
Introduction:
Business system planning focuses on data and processes. It is generic in its application, meaning
that products, as well as CENTRAL FOR RAILWAY INFORMATION SYSTEM can benefit from
its use. Indian Railways uses BSP when they want a new way to view the organization and
determine the information needs in order to build CRIS. This process is very comprehensive,
therefore it is often time consuming and expensive. BSP defines the information architecture for IR.
Back ground:
An efficient planning document is essential for Indian Railways for the economic health of the
country. Indian Railways connects the different parts of the country together. Railways are the main
approach of communication for citizens. Indian railways adopted information system in early
1960s. However, IR have been operating two types of information systems such as Online
Reservation system, which deals with providing customer service and accommodation to
passengers, and Freight Operating system deals with maintenance of the fuel, energy efficiency and
human resource development.
Mission statement of Indian Railways:
The information system implements a railway ticket issuing system for the IR. This solution allows
overcoming the extreme human intervention to the current ticketing process. This planning system
will be an automated system so that IR will be able to manage their ticketing transaction efficiently.
Mission of IR is focusing on three types of Planning
1.Strategic Planning

how the French perceived and stereotyped American s, undermine the presentation of a unified
male subject and thus the conventional Hollywood representation of Masculinity. (Selig 46)
How the French view American males during the time is not the fault of Lewis. His work was
appealing to the French (and many American movie goers) because he was making comedies to
lighten the mood of the times. From the information in both articles an argument for or against
Lewis got lost and became more about how American critics perceived the French interpretation
of Lewis as an auteur. That is the French were more impressed with Lewis because of his style in
presenting the topics within his films. American critics seemed to be appalled that Lewis was the
French s perception of what American male life was like. However, Is it ok that Americans think
of the French as all having berets, wearing black and white striped shirts, riding bikes with
baguettes in their basket? This is an American stereotype vs the French who may think all
American males are funny and stupid acting and will do anything for love and

Technology Is An Evolving Tool With Many Purposes
Technology is an evolving tool with many purposes. Its usefulness carries over from fields like
Information Technology (IT) to other business fields like accounting or human resources.
Technology can help a business become more efficient and have more accurate information. It can
also help with data analysis to create more accurate and useful reports for stockholders and upper
levels of management to make decisions about a company. Every year technology continues to
change and new technology and software trends emerge. Over the past decade Optical Character
Recognitionhas become an emerging technology and is now being used in many fields to aid
businesses and business processes.
Optical character recognition (OCR) is a technology that allows images of handwritten and typed
text to be transferred into machine encoded text that can then be downloaded into an enterprise
data system allowing documents to be edited and searched. OCR technology also allows for
processes such as cognitive computing, machine translation, key data entry, and text mining which
are other advanced emerging technologies. Beginning versions of OCR technology required
computer training of each individual character one at a time. Today, this technology is able to
recognize various fonts and support different types of digital images and file inputs. OCR was
originally developed to assist those with sight impediments to help them be able to read printed
information because when a file is scanned the words

Iago s Character Exposed Through Language and Diction in Othello
Everyone at some point in their lives attempts to convince someone to behave certain ways and to
do specific things that ultimately will only benefit the person doing the convincing. Throughout
the entire book, Othello, Iago attempts to convince numerous people in order to in the end only
benefit and help himself. In this scene, Roderigo is explaining to Iago how he no longer wants to
love because he is without Desdemona s love. Iago then focuses on convincing Roderigo not only
out of suicide, but also into getting Desdemona back. If Iago was unable to encourage Roderigo to
go back after Desdemona, his plans would have been ruined. In lines 296 395, Iago uses many ...

Another example if flattering diction that Iago uses in his appeal is found in line 302, when Iago
refers to Roderigo as a sill gentleman . The term gentleman makes it appear as though Iago thinks
highly of what Roderigo does and hopefully shows Roderigo the trust that Iago has in him.
Iago also tries to persuade Roderigo through the different types of language techniques and
appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos. Iago uses the appeal to ethos twice in the passage, in line 331
and then again in lines 355 357. In line 331, Iago says Come, be a man! . This statement appeals
to Roderigo s sense of pride in his character. There is no man that does not delight in being called
a real man. Iago uses the same type appeal to pride in lines 355 357 when he says that it would
be better to die by hanging with her rather than to die by drowning without her. This also shows
Roderigo that he should at least have the joy of winning the prize when he dies. Iago also
appeals to Roderigo s pathos in line 301 when he says that if Roderigo kills himself by drowning,
then Iago will never love him after he dies. This is a phrase that Iago uses to appeal to Roderigo
s emotion. This touches Roderigo s emotions because no one wants to do something that will
cause those around them to not love and cherish them when they are gone. Lastly, Iago appeals to
Roderigo s logic, or logos. This is best

The gender wage gap is not the only problem as also there is another right in which women are
arguing for and that is to legally have an abortion. Feminists would argue that they should have the
right to choose to whether they want to have an abortion. This reiterates that women still do not
have the rights that they feel like they deserve to have and that they should continue to protest and
fight until they do. Angela Breslin in her article A Wall of Legislative Obstacles in the Path of A

There have been recently scandals in which the famous men of Hollywood are being charged
with sexual assault or harassment and acting inappropriately around women. Women are
suffering from these problems especially in the workplace as of late and in a society in which
values women more there are still some that don t yet because they don t treat women with
respect that they deserve. It seems that some of these men are living in the past and want
women for the sexual pleasure that they are supposed to provide to men. Christina Pazzanese
and Colleen Walsh in their article The Woman s Revolt: Why now, and where to argues how the
Me Too movement can spark changes to society as more people become aware of these
problems. Before the scandals in Hollywood not many people took the problems of sexual
assault and harassment to be much of a problem and therefore there would be no change. This is
why the women in the Me Too movement want more women to speak up on these problems that
they have been suffering from so that more people become aware of it. The article provides a
quote which is as follows, But, unless feminists (and the media, and the national audience) start
doing a better job of highlighting and listening to the voices of people who have been doubly
marginalized, such as women of color and those of lower socioeconomic status, there will be
important limits on what can be accomplished. Society cannot doubt what women say because
society downplays some of these accounts of sexual assault because they don t believe the woman
is a victim. They need to understand how hard it is for women to talk about this because it
traumatizes them and are sometimes stopped from saying anything by the men because there will
be consequences. As soon as people understand this then people will be susceptible to change

Illinois revised statutes state that, a person is justified in the use of deadly force when that person
reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to
himself. (Ill.Rev.Stat. 1977, ch. 38, par. 7 1).
When a court looks to define whether a defendant was reasonably justified in his use of deadly force
they look at four factors: (1) Significant physical disparity in size between the defendant and the
decedent(s) (2) the defendant avidly attempts to avoid confrontation (3) The defendant feels
threaten by the decedent(s) (4) the decedent(s) continued pursuit of the defendants after a had been

In People v S.M. the defendant is seen actively trying to avoid confrontation and thus giving the
court evidence that he felt his life was truly in danger. The court stated that his fears were well
founded is borne out by the appearance and conduct of Gale s four companions and by the fact that
the boys were in way discouraged by the respondent s gun. The respondent made repeated efforts
to flee. At no time did he stand his ground or advance toward the other boys. Likewise, in People
v Shipp the defendant is seen trying to stop the decedent by using words. Please don t come any
closer. The decedent continued to advance and the defendant began backing up . It is only when
he gets within proximity does the defendant deem it necessary to act. The court found that the
defendant acted in a way that was justified in the use of deadly force to protect herself from
imminent harm. In contrast in People v Moore, the defendant did not avoid confrontation, just
before the defendants use of deadly force he is told to go back home by his neighbor. He instead
makes the decision to return with the weapon and use it if necessary. This leads the court to
believe he didn t act in a way to avoid confrontation.
The third factor that the court uses to justify the reasonable use of deadly force is that the defendant

The Health Benefits Of Blood Transfusions
Although 38% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, less than 10% of them do it
annually (American Red Cross). More than 41,000 blood donations are required each day by
patients in hospitals across America. A pint of donated blood can save the lives of up to three
people. Blood transfusions are fundamental in the healthcare management of patients in the U.S.
According to the National Heart, Lung, and BloodInstitute every year approximately 5 million
Americans need blood transfusions. Those patients requiring blood transfusions include accident
victims, cancer patients, surgery patients and those suffering from illness such as anemia and
hemophilia. However, blood is not manufactured in laboratories and therefore all patients in need of
blood transfusions rely on donors. Regardless of the countless health benefits that patients requiring
blood transfusions get the donors also acquire some medical benefits. Such as free medical
checkups before donation, ionic balance in their bod and the reduced risks of getting heart disease
making the benefit mutual.
The lessening of iron stores and iron in the body while donating blood can diminish the dangers
of tumors. It expands free radical harm in the body of a person since it raises the chances of tumor
development as a person ages (Kiss et al. 35). A report of 1,200 individuals were divided into two

Currently, a world wide effort is underway to measure the activity concentrations in building
materials (Tufail et al., 1992 [3]. A range of radionalytical methods can be used for determination
of activity concentrations in naturally occurring materials. Gamma ray spectrometers are
widely used for this purpose. These are typically based on either germanium semiconductor or
Na I(Tl) scintillator detectors. They are the preferred choice in cases where the photo peaks of
concern are well separated (IAEA, 1992) [4]. Some radioactivity studies have been previously

The Diary Of War, National Pride And The National...

History

The Preface to War; National Pride in the Balkans Walter S. Zapotoczny, an author and historian,
once said, Each of the great powers believed they had something to gain from war, fostering the
national pride and the national positioning that made World War Iinevitable. This is true, as
imperialism and militarism were a large part of national pride. Austria Hungary, for example,
wanted Serbia. The German military was expanding rapidly. With each argument countries got into,
hatred became stronger. Eventually, the European tensions snapped and everything toppled into
terrible war. World War I was inevitable due to each of the great powers being imperialistic,
militaristic, and prepared for war.
During the early 1900 s, the European great powers believed they all had something to gain from
expanding. Land in Africa was being claimed by countries such as France and Great Britain. A
main goal for all the countries of Europe was growing. Austria and Hungary joined together into a
dual monarchy in 1867. This country annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1908. Germany was
annoyed at not having as much space in Africa, which is imperialistic because it is territorial.
Imperialism was popular during the time. The great powers believed they could become better
through imperialism. In this case, imperialism is showing national pride because the expansion of a
country makes it more powerful. Power is something citizens of a country can be

Essay on History of Slavery in the Caribbean
History of Slavery in the Caribbean
The institution of slavery has played a major role in the history, and the shaping of the Caribbean.
Therefore, in order to truly understand the Caribbean one must completely understand slavery itself.
Slavery can be defined as belonging to a person, or being treated like a piece of property, and not
having any individual freedom This was essentially the life many Africans lived for many
centuries in the Caribbean . The master s had total freedom and control over his or her slaves. As a
result of this behavior they were able to run successful sugar plantations that resembled modern day
factories. Until the end of the 18th century many sugar estates used the gang system. The owner

Milling had to be done within 24 hours of the cane being cut, otherwise it would spoil. At first there
was just a main mill in the center of the country, but by the 1800 s many planters owned there own
individual mills.
Laws regarding the well being of the slave were as follows; it was strictly up to the discretion of
the master the amount of control he chose to exercise over his slaves. For the most part, it seems
as if laws were the worst on islands where slaves outnumbered the masters, and less severe on the
islands without sugar plantations.
With so little control over there own lives it was truly difficult for slaves to achieve anything.
This especially included freedom. The French Code Noir and the Spanish laws did not make it
easy for a slave to gain freedom, but it was certainly easier for one to become free on these
islands than those owned by the British. The British made it almost impossible for the slaves to
gain freedom. In the Spanish and the French colonies, slaves were given a few legal privileges.
The courts on these islands permitted slaves to own personal property, make contracts, and buy
their freedom with their meager savings. These laws did not exist in the British colonies.
Without the labor of the slaves on the sugar plantations, the sugarcane estates could not have
succeeded the way they did. The slave in turn, became the back bone of the sugar plantation in the
Caribbean. During the rainy season the

Classical Theory Vs Strain Theory Essay
Key Characteristics
Both classical theory and strain theory are widely known and established theories that although
have similar goals are vastly difference in terms of their key characteristics. Classical theory was
developed in the 18th century during the enlightenment era and is the foundation of the classical
school of criminology (Clinard and Meier, 2008, p65 67). Classical theory is the theory that
individuals are self seeking rational actors who under their own free will commit crimes after
weighing up to pros and cons of the situation (Loughran et al. 2016, para 4; White, Haines and
Asquith, 2012, p28 31). This theory takes an individualist approach to explaining CCB that sees
individuals as rights holders who have the equal capacity to make rational choices and focuses on
the criminal act rather than the offender (White, Haines and ... Show more content on

The theory believes the most appropriate response to crime is through swift and punitive
punishment based on the pleasure pain principle and see punishment as the key mechanism to
preventing crime, arguing that if punishment is swift, just and certain both the individual
(specific deterrence) and society members (general deterrence) will be deterred from committing
crime (Akers, 1990, p654 659). Strain theory, on the other hand, is an adaption of Durkheim s
anomie theory and branches off sociological positivism (Brezina, 2011, p99 103). Strain theory is
the theory that society pressures individuals to achieve socially acceptable goals (SAG), and when
individuals cannot reach these goals due to lack of means (e.g. poverty), individuals experience a
strain and turns to crime (White, Haines and Asquith, 2012, p67 71; Walters, 2010, p316). This
theory takes a sociological approach to explaining CCB that sees social strains and inadequate
structural opportunities to blame for crime and highlights that individuals are not equal in their
capacity to make rational choices (Clinard and

Moon is the other type of critic, the sort who does waffle about the meaning of life and reality in

leaving Birdboot out of the question. The audiences now how some time to scoff at Stoppard s

Barack Obama s Presidency Of The Affordable Care Act
As President Barack Obama s presidency nears completion, it is natural that America as a whole
should look back and ask the question, Am I better off than I was four, or even eight years ago?
Although there are too many issues an administration faces in eight years to focus on all of
them, one of President Obama s most notable acts in his two terms in office is the passing of the
Affordable Care Act (ACA), more commonly known as Obamacare. It remains a controversial
law, and has already faced multiple repeal attempts, challenges in the Supreme Court, a
presidential election, and continues to be challenged repeatedly in Congress. The most recent
CNN poll taken in January indicated that 51% of those polled disapproved of how President
Obama is handling health care (President Obama and the Obama Administration, para. 12). As the
2016 Presidential elections heat up, it becomes an even bigger issue on the campaign platforms of
GOP candidates. The future of the Affordable Care Act could very well lie with the next
presidential administration. With a presidency on its way out that is so well known for Obamacare
and presidential candidates using their stance on repealing the law as such a key point in their
campaigns, one can t help but wonder, how much does a candidate s standpoint on the issue affect
the public s opinion of them? Data collected in polls nationwide indicate that that despite a common
negative public opinion of Obamacare, a majority of Americans support adapting

Parental Leave Policy Analysis
Parental Leave
The need for paid family leave has always been there, but finally is coming to the forefront of the
presidential election in 2016. Both democratic front runners have policies that they have spoken
about openly and even a few republicans had some bare bones policies, but those politicians did
not make it this far. The best and most inclusive policy in my opinion is the one of Bernie Sanders.
Sanders supports and is cosponsoring the FAMILYAct which would provide 12 weeks of paid
family and medical leave to care for a sick loved one or for the birth of a child. Also, he supports the
Healthy Families act that would guarantee 7 days of paid sick leave to every worker. The last part
of his plan is to support the Guaranteed Paid Vacation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, as millennials start to gain some power and pull in the workforce after graduating from
college and starting families of their own it is starting to get some traction. The generation as a
whole is not willing to compromise their work life balance to fit the societal norm (Gilbert,
2011). The demands of the generation that is larger than baby boomers will not be stifled,
especially when the United States has many countries to catch up to when it comes to workers
rights policies like family leave. It is estimated that millennials will be over 50% of the
workforce in the next 4 years (PWC, 2016). That kind of majority in the workforce and thus
voting population forces change and opens windows for policy makers that have been patiently
waiting in the wings for the chance to push their policies through. Sanders policies that he is
supporting and co sponsoring are a perfect example of this. Sanders has supported family leave
since the early 1980s but did not have the policy window to push his policy through. Power
structure within society is something else that is changing with the millennial generation.
Millennials are a generation that is very aware of who has power in society and why they have it.
As a whole they are fighting to reverse the inequity and racism that is often found within that power.

Jane Smiley A Thousand Acres
Jane Smiley s A Thousand Acres is a modern day representation of Shakespeare s King Lear. The
text tales a tragic story of a family of a troubling past, willingly watching each others lives decay
as the tragedy unfolds. In spite of it s similarities to King Lear , this work of literature is a work of
its own. The text constructs a clear distinction of American rural Space, this is through foreground
economic and social issues raised throughout the text of the perception that is driven by ones

Charles M. Schulz s Life And Accomplishments
Charles M. Schulz, also known as Sparky, is one of the most influential cartoonists due to his
effort on the Peanuts. He drew nearly 18,000 strips for it in the fifty years it ran. He won many
awards for his cartoons. One of the biggest is a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame right next to
Walt Disney. His talent is still relevant today due to the Peanuts. Although he requested that no
other artist draw more comics after he died, reruns of his comics are still appearing in newspapers
and the television specials are stories based off his comics.
He also did other drawings that weren t related to the Peanuts. In one illustration titled Notre Dame,

not all women who get pregnant get to enjoy the experience of carrying their baby and giving birth

Light In The Forest Johnny Tremain Analysis
Compare and Contrast Essay Rough Draft The Light in the Forest, by Conrad Richter, and
Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes, are two incredibly distinct novels, each with their own
similarities and differences when compared to one another. True Son, the protagonist in Light in
the Forest, is a fifteen year old boy raised by a tribe of Delaware Indians for the past eleven years
of his life. Though he is biologically American, he wholeheartedly considers himself a full blooded
Indian. This not only creates turmoil when he is forcibly moved to his biological white family but
causes True Son confusion when he is forced to choose between not only his two families but his
two other identities as well. On the other hand, Johnny Tremain, the protagonist in the novel Johnny
Tremain, faces a completely different situation for he is a fourteen year old boy living in colonial
Boston. He is at first entirely self centered and arrogant due to his prodigious gifts as a silversmith
apprentice. However, when an unfortunate injury results in him having a crippled hand, this
destroys any chance of him being an adequate silversmith. He faces humiliation but through many
struggles and difficulties transforms into a patriotic man. Through analyzing the two novels, there
were many similarities and differences found. Similarities include the difficult journey they both
encounter as well as their similar behavior. On the contrary, both individuals differ through their
race and how they were brought up. Both True Son and Johnny Tremain desire to stay in a
comfortable setting. They greatly enjoy their life and make no wish to change it. And yet, both
characters were forced to face hardships which ultimately changes both their situation as well as
their perspectives in life. For instance, Johnny Tremain had a comfortable position in life. He was
widely considered the most talented young silversmith in Boston. Though he was egotistic, he
was destined for a bright future. Regrettably, when molten silver disfigured his hand he lost his
chance at ever becoming a silversmith and can no longer find skilled work. Filled with self pity
and despair, he almost turns to a life of crime. Only his friendships and new job with a Whig

Wal-Mart Health Care Dilemma

Wal Mart
Wal Mart Health Care Dilemma
There have been some concerns about Wal Mart s treatment of its employees, suppliers, the
environment, and the overall economic impact on communities. Wal Mart has been criticized by
some community groups, women s rights groups, grassroots organizations, and labor unions,
specifically for its extensive foreign product sourcing, low wages, low rates of employee health
insurance enrollment, resistance to union representation, sexism, and management efforts to
pressure employees to vote for specific parties during national elections. Wal Mart, one of the world

Key Stakeholders
With any business there are always stakeholders. These people are influenced by businesses.
However, they also have the ability to influence businesses. Consequently, the relationship between
businesses and stakeholders is a two way street. According to Ferrell, Ferrell, and Fraedrich (2010),
In a business context, customers, investors and shareholders, employees, suppliers, government
agencies, communities, and many others who have a stake or claim in some aspect of a company s
product, operations, markets, industry, and outcome are known as stakeholders (p. 30).
Although most corporations have emphasized shareholders as the most important stakeholder
group, the failure to consider all significant stakeholders can lead to ethical lapses. Stakeholders
are likely to shift their prospective of a company after unethical actions have been exposed to the
public. The key stakeholders in this situation are the Wal Mart associates, taxpayers, and
shareholders. The stakeholder model of corporate social responsibility considers obligations firms
may face as moral agents to employees, customers and other stakeholders. Most employees rely on
their employer to provide some type of health care benefits because most cannot afford health

The Mummy In Ancient Egypt
Imagine you re an archeologist exploring Egypt and you find an old tomb, one that has not been
ransacked. Strangely, the mummy is a pharaoh in only a rich man s tomb and it turns out this
ruler died young. The mummy is King Tutankhamun and he was killed by Aye, his chief advisor.
Aye killed King Tut for power over Ancient Egypt. Evidence shows that the pharaoh had many
injuries before his death. Aye killed King Tut when they were hunting. Evidence supports this
because King Tut s Femur was broken and the skin was cut which suggests a sudden act of
violence, caused by Aye slicing the young king s leg making him lose control and be crushed by
his horse. Another piece of proof is that the king had a hemorrhage in his skull that may have been
an effect of the horse falling over. The ruler had two separate resins applies at two times which hints
that one was applied far away and the next during mummification. Aye sabotaged and killed King
Tut when hunting. When Aye... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Clifford Geertz s Focus on the Power of Religion
Clifford Geertz has focused more on the symbolic power of religion. He has talked about the fact
that it is the symbolic power of religion that has a strong influence on the people. It is the religion,
in accordance to Clifford that helps the people in understanding the place that the people have in
the world. The actions that are undertaken by the people are also defined by the religion. Based on
the arguments that have been given by Clifford, it can be added here that there is a great effect
of religion and the religious values on the kind of politics being observed in the nations (Pals
309). When we talk about the religion, it can be added here that we are talking about the set of
beliefs as well as the ethical values, which are used in the creation of the world and the ways in
which the world is managed. So where does the symbolic state of religion stand in the modern
political world. One of the main facts that need to be mentioned here is that politics is related
with the development certain motivations in men. These motivations need to be powerful and
long lasting. It has been found in the case of the definition of religion by Geertz. He has added
that religion provides a set of symbols that develop long lasting, modulations in the people. There
is no doubt about the fact that the politics and democracy has more to do with the development of
strong states and nations. There needs to be a general order of existence in the nations and states,
which leads to strong

Yet another Kanye West outburst. This time it is a Thirty Mile Zone (TMZ) interview live

and President Trump have Dragon Energy . Later, on the topic of slavery, Mr. West states When

Air Jordan Ad Analysis Essay
Advertising is an art. It has the power to tap into a consumer s conscious, as well as, unconscious
thoughts and make them feel a wide range of emotions. Air Jordan embodies this ability
perfectly. Their bold and iconic advertisements pinpoint certain cultural values that deeply touch
consumers, thus allowing them to dominate the sneaker world. The Air Jordan advertisement I
chose is fairly simple. It s centered around a group of young men, mostly minorities, playing
basketball. They re on a concrete street court that is fairly dilapidated and littered with graffiti.
The players are all wearing simple, worn out clothes, however they all have on high end Air
Jordans. The main person in the ad is dunking over all the other players into a tattered hoop.
They re all trying to block him but it looks as if nothing can get in his way. Under this scene there
is the words, Rise Above , and slightly to the right you can see the Air Jordan logo. Overall, the ad
projects an urban, yet colorful vibrance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At surface level, it is easily understood through the ad that wearing Jordans can improve your
basketball skills and help you dunk. This is further emphasised by the word Rise Above ,
implying that he is rising above everyone to dunk. However, through a deeper analysis, you can
find a similar message that applies to life obstacles. Seeing that Air Jordan is a fairly popular
shoe amongst low income and minority communities, I feel that this ad persuades its consumers
by appealing their sense of struggle. They do this by showing a young black man, in the hood ,
overcoming his obstacles and succeeding. In this light, the words Rise Above convey that you
can escape a bad situation and thrive. All in all, Air Jordan caters to certain people s sense of
helplessness and uses their shoes as a symbol of hope to gain their consumers

Landscape In Henry Alan Paton s Cry, The Beloved Country
Henry David Thoreau once said Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads, in his novel
Walden, which accurately reflects mankind s relationship to the natural world around us.
Frequently, the landscape dictates the well being of the people who live there. In Alan Paton s
work Cry, the Beloved Country, he starts the book by describing the South African people s bond to
the landscape. Employing contrasting imagery and diction, powerful symbolism, and fluctuating
uses of parallelism, Paton demonstrates how the land needs to be healthy in order for the people
who live there to thrive, and harm to the earthis mirrored by the deterioration of community.
Paton uses vivid descriptions of nature to paint a picture of the land s connection to the tribal
people. Initially, Paton reverently describes the landscape using words such as lovely, great, rich,
and fairest, which composes an image of thriving land. Additionally, he uses words such as holy
and Creator when discussing the land. The earth is rich and lovely to these people, but first and
foremost it is a spiritual part of their community. The fact that these people associate the land with
their belief in god and their spirituality, exhibited by its description of being holy, is significant
because religion is important to these people. This religious diction is contrasted with words such
as break down, dry, burned, coarse, sharp, cut, desolate, torn, dead, red blood, and, scratch which
depicts a stark difference from

Diane Arbus And Dorothea Lange
Before starting this project, I knew very little about photography, photographers, or exactly how
much impact photographical images have had on our society. I have never taken a photography
class, or researched too in depth about specific pictures or photographers. This project has allowed
me to delve deeper into the world of photography in order to understand just how much influence
pictures can have over society s beliefs, emotions, and understandings . I have have chosen two
highly influential photographers, Diane Arbus and Dorothea Lange, who I have found to both
resonate with me and perfectly capture human emotions in way that moves others. Diane Arbus
was a photographer in the 1950 s and 60 s. Starting out as a fashion photographer, Arbus quickly
moved on to photographing more impactful pictures, usually of societal outsiders ( The Cost of
Diane, 2016). With striking images of freaks, as she once named her subject, Arbus perfectly
depicted feelings of loneliness and struggles with identity. I believe Arbus resonates with me so
much because of her uncanny ability to showcase such complex and intense human emotions
through photography repeatedly. Each picture tells a different story with different struggles, yet
each share emotions so commonly felt. These unalike, yet similar photographs each hold a piece of

How Wireless Communication Has Improved The Point Of Being...
Wireless communication is the transfer of data between two or more points that are not connected
by an electrical conductor. In addition, wireless communications networks are less expensive to
install and preserve than equivalent wired systems. Wireless communication has become possible
due to the discovery of radio waves. With the first breakthrough of the radio signal within the 19th
century, along with founders Nikola Tesla and Guglielmo Marconi, evolution of the wireless
technology has improved to the point of being unrecognizable (Makkai ,2006, p.1). According to
Rappaport (2002 ,p.1) , with the Guglielmo Marconi s invention of the long distance
communication with ships at sea, has the power of instant communication emerged. Nowadays,
many people use the internet service on a cellphone to keep the contact with people around the
world, and for other purposes such as: researching, learning and exploring (Makkai ,2006, p.1).
In this essay, the following definitions will be used. Communication in this essay refers to a
technology that allows sending and receiving data such as: SMS, voice and images (Lee,
Schneider and Schell,2004, p.15). A mobile app is a software application developed specifically for
use on small, wireless computing devices, such as smartphones and tablets, rather than desktop or
laptop computers. Ram (Random Access Memory) arranges communication through messages to a
customer while they are in the city territory (Rappaport, 2002, p.508).

  • 3. Termites Reaction Lab Eastern subterranean termites are insects with a well ordered social system whose members are characterized by different castes such as the queen and king for reproduction and the workers who are responsible for building shelter and finding food (Laboratory Manual, 87). When a worker finds a food source it leaves a trail on the ground with its pheromones which acts like a temporary signal, so other workers can follow and find the same food source (Laboratory Manual, 87). Certain pens have chemicals in their ink that mimics the pheromones, which can cause the termites to follow the paths that has been drawn (Laboratory Manual, 87). The purpose of this experiment is to discover which pen the chemical that mimics the pheromone. I think the black marker will be the pen that the termites follow because it has a distinct smell and it s the darkest line. In this experiment we had three pens, a green highlighter, a blue pen, a black marker and six... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To get the termites out of the container they were in we used a small paint brush that came from a watercolor painting set, and we slowly picked them up and put them on the paper. As soon as the termites reached the paper they started roaming around. They didn t go anywhere near the figure we drew. Next we slowly picked them up with the small paint brush and put them on the paper with the thick green highlighter figure eight. They did the same thing as they did with the black magic marker, they just roamed around the paper. Then we put them on the paper with the blue pen. They roamed around for about half of a second, then they were following the path of the blue pen. We watched them for five minutes and they never left the blue pens figure eight. When we tried to pick them up off of the paper to put them back in their container we had some trouble trying to take them off the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These alliances started out as small agreements between countries turned into a force that divided the major powers of Europe into two alliances. These alliance were the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. Agreements made within these alliances help to pave the way to the war. The first of these alliances that was formed was the Triple Alliance. It was formed in secrecy in may of 1882. This alliance was made up of Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. (Kann) Although Germany and Austria hungary were allies before the formation of the Triple Alliance, Italy was not added into the Alliance until they wanted assistance with France. France at this time beat out Italy in obtain some of North Africa. (Britanica) The terms of this alliance were that if Italy was ever attacked by France, Germany and Austria Hungary would come to its assistance. It also stated that, if Germany was attacked by France then Italy would come in to help them. Finally they agreed that Italy would have to stay neutral if Austria Hungary ever got into a war with Russia. The alliance was renewed again in the february of 1887. This time, in addition to the agreements that were already made, Germany told Italy that it would help them in North Africa ( even though they never had any intentions of doing so). Germany also convinced Austria Hungary to continue their alliance with Italy even during the dispute over land they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Treatment of Whistleblowers Essay It used to be that whistleblowers were applauded, and they still are in the private sector, but it seems as if government whistleblowers are criticized and many are even criminally charged. There is certainly a different take on their activities. In fact, some advocates counsel federal employees not to come forward with information because if they do, their lives will be destroyed (Shulman, 2007). What often happens is that they will never be able to work in their careers again in the same capacity (Shulman, 2007). Many whistleblowers not only lose their jobs, but they lose their families and friends, and much of their money ends up going to attorneys (Shulman, 2007). Indeed, in today s day and age, there is a surge of whistleblowers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can take awhile for someone to speak up, and the hesitancy is largely due to a corporate culture that does not support the practice. It should be noted that there are whistle blowing statutes in many jurisdictions where an employee is allowed to report illegal activity and will be protected from being fired (Larson, 2003). Indeed, whistle blowing is largely encouraged in society in general as the government wants people to come forward when the giants of Corporate America are doing something bad. Of course, when it comes to leaking government secrets that is a different matter entirely. The National Whistleblowers Center says that under Section 403 of the Intelligence Authorization Act, the head of an employee s agency may accuse a whistleblower of leaking classified information (Burghardt, 2011). If this were to occur, the simple accusation could lead to the individual s blocking of access to federal pensions, and this is true even if they are in retirement (Burghardt, 2011). One case that involves a whistleblower who has been ostracized is Thomas Drake. Drake is a former National Security Agency (NSA) employee (Bishop, 2011). The government pursued him for years, and eventually he would plead guilty to just one misdemeanor in that he used a computer without authorization (Bishop, 2011). What did Drake do exactly? Why is he considered to be a whistleblower and why has he been persecuted by the government? Drake warned the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. War Of The North Vietnamese And Viet Cong In late 1967, the United States (US) military created a narrative about their activities in Vietnam that led the American public to believe that the US was winning against the Communist forces of the North Vietnamese (NVA) and Viet Cong (VC). This narrative remained unchanged, and was in fact reinforced, despite the interception of intelligence detailing plans for a major offensive operation in South Vietnam. The Communist forces planned to stage a major operation in order to ensure a final victory over the US and allied forces and to provoke a popular uprising. A close examination of US Department of State archives, research papers from various military colleges, and primary source material from the Intelligence Community (IC),... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A main component of the operation was the reliance on the South Vietnamese population revolting, the government collapsing, and the communist forces being welcomed in the south as liberators. The establishment of a pro Communist regime would come as an after effect of unit mutinies and defections, mass popular revolts, and the annihilation...[of] the opposing military forces (Cosmas, 2009). The NVA/VC were planning on leveraging all their possible assets in order to ensure victory. This would not solely be a ground fight the Politburo in the North had decided to wager everything on the outcome of this battle, seemingly believing the US narrative of an approaching victory for the Americans. In addition to the very strong military attacks that would shift control of cities and towns, the NVA/VC would disseminate propaganda amongst the populace but specifically target the enemy officers and enlisted personnel (Turner, 1992). One of the primary goals of General Offensive/General Uprising was to provoke a popular uprising but the exact opposite came about. Buoyed by the energetic response by the government of President Thieu and the respectable fighting of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, popular support ended up increasing for the government in Saigon. This represented a clear strategic failure for the NVA. During the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being the first to develop fluoride effective in preventing cavities and tooth decay, it served as a major scientific breakthrough and has been a trusted product throughout the years. Today, it continues to make advancements towards dental hygiene, and has also developed several other products to assist in complete oral care. The Crest product line includes toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, whitening products, and mouthwash. Each of these products has several variations, creating a program of oral care for everyone. In developing a marketing plan, there are several questions that Proctor and Gamble must ask themselves in order to get their product ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, with the knowledge that as people travel they may forget to pack their dental hygiene products, they may also make it available in hotel gift shops across the world. Deciding a price for the product is a very important step. If the price is too high, consumers may opt for the less expensive alternative, even though Crest has such a strong, longstanding tradition. Setting the price too low may make consumers wonder why the leader in oral care is selling their products lower than others, and may opt for another option due to a discombobulating combination of a trusted product and a lower than average price. Therefore, a price slightly above average would be the best option, as it would relay to consumers that it is a leader in the industry that should be strongly considered, and the difference in price would reflect added value. Finally, as oral care is an inelastic product, as the economy changes the price may fluctuate and the demand should not be affected. Lastly, Proctor and Gamble must decide how to promote the product. As they are credited for the scientific breakthrough of the effects of fluoride on cavity and tooth decay prevention, P G should certainly make this known. This will create a general respect for the product, and a strong sense of trust. Visual advertisements are a strong force that should be considered. Television commercials featuring beautiful ... • 11. International Emergency Powers Act ( Iepa ) On November 4, 1979, Iranian revolutionaries stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and took several Americans hostage . President Carter subsequently issued executive order 12170, under the provision of the International Emergency Powers Act (IEPA), which froze all Iranian governmental assets within the jurisdiction of the United States . 444 days later Iran agreed to release the hostages in exchange for the return of their seized funds and the dismissal of all legal proceedings of US nationals against Iran and... judgments via those pending proceedings ; this agreement is the basis for the Algiers Accords . Executiveorders serve as immediate control measures for crises but often warrant criticism and further examination. Before the hostage crisis, Dames Moore Cooperation filed lawsuits against numerous Iranian governmental agencies. Dames was already furious about slow progress of their case in early 1980, but Carter s executive order effectively forced the cooperation to relegate the case with the newly formed Claims Tribunal. Dames doubted the constitutionality of the executive actions arguing that they exceeded constitutional limitations, so he challenged the executive order directly . • 12. An Exploration Of The Pepcon Disaster And Its Aftermath An Exploration of the PEPCON Disaster And Its Aftermath What began as normal repair work at the Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON) in May of 1988, resulted in devastation. PEPCON was one of two manufacturing facilities of Ammonium Perchlorate (AP), located in Clark County, NV, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas (Lilley, 2012). AP is an oxidizer that when combined with aluminum makes the base for solid state rocket fuel (Dunbar, 2006). Due to the recent Space Shuttle Challengerdisaster, all space exploration by NASA was halted, and a stockpile of around 4,000 tons of AP built up and was stored onsite (Lilley, 2012). Each of these materials is makes AP act as a class A explosive as explained in Appendix B. Also, within many buildings at the PEPCON facility, dust control was either minimal or nonexistent, while cleaning was only performed before safety inspections (Lambert Alvares, 2003, p.7). This led to massive AP buildups on all flat surfaces which it is assumed exasperated the situation further once the fire started (Lambert Alvares, 2003, p.7). The incredibly risky storage practices of this powerful oxidizer made PEPCON a disaster waiting to happen. The Facility And Its Safety Features The PEPCON facility was broken up into multiple buildings, the most important of which to this incident is the batch drying building located in the southwest portion of the facility (map of PEPCON is attached as Appendix A) (Routley, n.d., p. 22). The batch dryer was used to blend and dry AP to prepare it for final packing, however, this facility was not suitable for this work due to its construction. The building was constructed of combustible fiberglass with steel supports (Routley, n.d., p.8). AP residue built up on the fiberglass and accelerated the fire out of control once it started (Routley, n.d., p.8). This risk was known by PEPCON as there had been previous fires in this building, however nothing was done to deter future fires (Case ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They left Vietnam shortly after because they did not want the police to find out that they were living in the country illegally. They returned to Cambodia for a few days and made their way to Thailand. Going to Thailand was dangerous and risky. My parents snuck onto the back of delivery trucks, hid in cargo, and paid people to get closer to Thailand. Once they were close enough to the border, they rode bikes through a secret path and got onto a truck that took them into the country. The emigration from Cambodia and into Thailand was so secretive because Cambodia did not allow their residents to leave the country at the time. What Ford is saying is that the students just don t really care to complete the course and just quit. These students are very unmotivated to complete the course. Ford goes on to say when talking about an algebra class offered online, 90 percent of those coming directly from high school failed the course (134). Early Ford mentioned that this algebra class was offered for 150 dollars. Not only are the classes inexpensive but they allow students to take the class whenever, whenever, if ever. One of the biggest concerns about online education today is something that Thomas Friedman calls the ambition gap (354). The new American generations are becoming less motivated and less ambitious than the rest of the world. Not only is sending american jobs to other countries cheaper but the individuals are much more productive and willing to do the work. Education Online would be enabling these next generation of students laziness. In a Ted Talks seminar, Anant Agarwal, the head of edX, tells his audience why Massive Open Online Courses still matter. This is supported by the fact that there is both a high level of ecological competition and high dispersal rates (Jones, 1980). As mentioned previously, when reaching sexual maturity male and female both generally disperse from their natal groups (Campbell and Di Fiore, 2005). A consequence of this is that most social groups are composed of non related individuals. There have been few studies done to better understand the reasons for this phenomenon. This phenomenon could be observed for several reasons that are commonly found in other primate species. Dispersal of females is likely due to avoid the harm of inbreeding within the group. Also, the dispersal of males is likely due the search of better mate finding opportunities in other groups. Besides these two more classical theories there is one other theory that might better explain dispersal of both sexes. Glander (1992) proposes that competition against a less related individual for the role of the alpha position would be more favorable than competition between a closely related kin. Unlike the other two hypotheses, this hypothesis has been supported by data that members are more likely to survive when they join a group with no closely related kin. If we followed the inclusive fitness theory we would expect to see that older members of the group would disperse, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Manufacturing in LICs is preferred as it provides these large companies with cheap labour. Toyota was recorded as the fifth largest TNC in 2010. Classical theory was developed in the 18th century during the enlightenment era and is the foundation of the classical school of criminology (Clinard and Meier, 2008, p65 67). Classical theory is the theory that individuals are self seeking rational actors who under their own free will commit crimes after weighing up to pros and cons of the situation (Loughran et al. 2016, para 4; White, Haines and Asquith, 2012, p28 31). This theory takes an individualist approach to explaining CCB that sees individuals as rights holders who have the equal capacity to make rational choices and focuses on the criminal act rather than the offender (White, Haines and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theory believes the most appropriate response to crime is through swift and punitive punishment based on the pleasure pain principle and see punishment as the key mechanism to preventing crime, arguing that if punishment is swift, just and certain both the individual (specific deterrence) and society members (general deterrence) will be deterred from committing crime (Akers, 1990, p654 659). Strain theory, on the other hand, is an adaption of Durkheim s anomie theory and branches off sociological positivism (Brezina, 2011, p99 103). Strain theory is the theory that society pressures individuals to achieve socially acceptable goals (SAG), and when individuals cannot reach these goals due to lack of means (e.g. poverty), individuals experience a strain and turns to crime (White, Haines and Asquith, 2012, p67 71; Walters, 2010, p316). This theory takes a sociological approach to explaining CCB that sees social strains and inadequate structural opportunities to blame for crime and highlights that individuals are not equal in their capacity to make rational choices (Clinard and ... Almost every character has an opposite, and is otherwise totally unique. Cynthia is opposite to Felicity, Simon is the contrast of Magnus, and so on. Tom Stoppard has included these contrasts for a variety of reasons and effects that combine to create the disturbing effect of the play incredibly effectively. But what individual effects do his characters create by opposing each other so accurately. At the start of the play, Stoppard deliberately confuses the audience with the opposing characters of Birdboot and Moon, at first; the audience is left to indulge in the view of moon and the... Birdboot asks where Higgs is; moon instantly replies with a paragraph of life, the universe and everything, now the audience know that the two people are critics, and they also know Moon is the other type of critic, the sort who does waffle about the meaning of life and reality in his reviews. Ironically, despite these characters being totally obvious as opposites, as the audience have worked out from just a few lines of speech, Moon defines his opposite as Higgs, leaving Birdboot out of the question. The audiences now how some time to scoff at Stoppard s flimsy attempt to create realistic critics. This effect is just what Stoppard wanted from the opposing critics in the opening scene. The audiences is confused as to what is the play, and what is not, they are waiting for what they think is the play to start, they are become increasingly agitated and are passing the time scoffing about how truly terrible Stoppard s characters are, if Stoppard is lucky, they may also be beginning to look forward to a pantomime. This could be because the reader understands what the character is going through or because we get to see things from the character s perspective and their emotions and that in return allows a bond to form for the reader. The character that is the most intriguing for me and the one I found comparing to every book that I read during school was Stacey from the book Ravensong Lee Maracle. • 39. Barack Obama s Presidency Of The Affordable Care Act As President Barack Obama s presidency nears completion, it is natural that America as a whole should look back and ask the question, Am I better off than I was four, or even eight years ago? Although there are too many issues an administration faces in eight years to focus on all of them, one of President Obama s most notable acts in his two terms in office is the passing of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), more commonly known as Obamacare. It remains a controversial law, and has already faced multiple repeal attempts, challenges in the Supreme Court, a presidential election, and continues to be challenged repeatedly in Congress. The most recent CNN poll taken in January indicated that 51% of those polled disapproved of how President Obama is handling health care (President Obama and the Obama Administration, para. 12). As the 2016 Presidential elections heat up, it becomes an even bigger issue on the campaign platforms of GOP candidates. The future of the Affordable Care Act could very well lie with the next presidential administration. With a presidency on its way out that is so well known for Obamacare and presidential candidates using their stance on repealing the law as such a key point in their campaigns, one can t help but wonder, how much does a candidate s standpoint on the issue affect the public s opinion of them? Both democratic front runners have policies that they have spoken about openly and even a few republicans had some bare bones policies, but those politicians did not make it this far. The best and most inclusive policy in my opinion is the one of Bernie Sanders. Sanders supports and is cosponsoring the FAMILYAct which would provide 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave to care for a sick loved one or for the birth of a child. Finally, as millennials start to gain some power and pull in the workforce after graduating from college and starting families of their own it is starting to get some traction. The generation as a whole is not willing to compromise their work life balance to fit the societal norm (Gilbert, 2011). The demands of the generation that is larger than baby boomers will not be stifled, especially when the United States has many countries to catch up to when it comes to workers rights policies like family leave. It is estimated that millennials will be over 50% of the workforce in the next 4 years (PWC, 2016). That kind of majority in the workforce and thus voting population forces change and opens windows for policy makers that have been patiently waiting in the wings for the chance to push their policies through. Sanders policies that he is supporting and co sponsoring are a perfect example of this. Sanders has supported family leave since the early 1980s but did not have the policy window to push his policy through. Power structure within society is something else that is changing with the millennial generation. Millennials are a generation that is very aware of who has power in society and why they have it. • 44. Light In The Forest Johnny Tremain Analysis Compare and Contrast Essay Rough Draft The Light in the Forest, by Conrad Richter, and Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes, are two incredibly distinct novels, each with their own similarities and differences when compared to one another. True Son, the protagonist in Light in the Forest, is a fifteen year old boy raised by a tribe of Delaware Indians for the past eleven years of his life. Though he is biologically American, he wholeheartedly considers himself a full blooded Indian. This not only creates turmoil when he is forcibly moved to his biological white family but causes True Son confusion when he is forced to choose between not only his two families but his two other identities as well. On the other hand, Johnny Tremain, the protagonist in the novel Johnny Tremain, faces a completely different situation for he is a fourteen year old boy living in colonial Boston. He is at first entirely self centered and arrogant due to his prodigious gifts as a silversmith apprentice. However, when an unfortunate injury results in him having a crippled hand, this destroys any chance of him being an adequate silversmith. He faces humiliation but through many struggles and difficulties transforms into a patriotic man. Through analyzing the two novels, there were many similarities and differences found. Similarities include the difficult journey they both encounter as well as their similar behavior. On the contrary, both individuals differ through their race and how they were brought up. Both True Son and Johnny Tremain desire to stay in a comfortable setting. They greatly enjoy their life and make no wish to change it. And yet, both characters were forced to face hardships which ultimately changes both their situation as well as their perspectives in life. For instance, Johnny Tremain had a comfortable position in life. He was widely considered the most talented young silversmith in Boston. Though he was egotistic, he was destined for a bright future. Regrettably, when molten silver disfigured his hand he lost his chance at ever becoming a silversmith and can no longer find skilled work. It is the religion, in accordance to Clifford that helps the people in understanding the place that the people have in the world. The actions that are undertaken by the people are also defined by the religion. Based on the arguments that have been given by Clifford, it can be added here that there is a great effect of religion and the religious values on the kind of politics being observed in the nations (Pals 309). When we talk about the religion, it can be added here that we are talking about the set of beliefs as well as the ethical values, which are used in the creation of the world and the ways in which the world is managed. So where does the symbolic state of religion stand in the modern political world. One of the main facts that need to be mentioned here is that politics is related with the development certain motivations in men. These motivations need to be powerful and long lasting. Landscape In Henry Alan Paton s Cry, The Beloved Country Henry David Thoreau once said Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads, in his novel Walden, which accurately reflects mankind s relationship to the natural world around us. Frequently, the landscape dictates the well being of the people who live there. In Alan Paton s work Cry, the Beloved Country, he starts the book by describing the South African people s bond to the landscape. Employing contrasting imagery and diction, powerful symbolism, and fluctuating uses of parallelism, Paton demonstrates how the land needs to be healthy in order for the people who live there to thrive, and harm to the earthis mirrored by the deterioration of community. Paton uses vivid descriptions of nature to paint a picture of the land s connection to the tribal people. Initially, Paton reverently describes the landscape using words such as lovely, great, rich, and fairest, which composes an image of thriving land. Additionally, he uses words such as holy and Creator when discussing the land. The earth is rich and lovely to these people, but first and foremost it is a spiritual part of their community. The fact that these people associate the land with their belief in god and their spirituality, exhibited by its description of being holy, is significant because religion is important to these people.
