C Stanley s Portfolio
The three portfolios I reviewed were different in the way each person wrote their life stories and
their different skills and aspirations. Reading through the three portfolios, there are many
different things I liked and I disliked in each of them. J.Johnson portfolio, number 20, wrote her
personal/ career portfolio based on her high level of achievements and her dream future job to
become a veterinarian. C. Stanley portfolio number 30, wrote his personal/ career portfolio based
on his career has a hockey player and how hockey has had the biggest impact on his life. H.

I would make a self assessment for the reason that I can critically reflect on my life this far and
realize all I have went through and all of my achievements. People rarely have the chance to
reflect on their whole life and I believe this would be a great opportunity to reflect. As I was
reading through the portfolio s it was mentioned a few times about how reflecting on their life
was enjoyable and that it made them realize things about themselves they never had before. It
would also be a nice tool to use when you are feeling down or need a little motivation to see what
you have achieved. It would also be nice to have in the future 10 years to see how far you have
come and how much you have changed. I can t see myself giving away a professional portfolio
which is why I would not want to create one over a personal one. Furthermore, I believe I will find
priceless value in making a personal portfolio that I will reflect on

The Cultural And Socio Economic Context
Different cultural groups show distinctive rates and experiences of the disorder, reflecting their
different cultural and socio economic context. Gotlib Hammen, (2002) propose a noticeable and
explicit pattern that seems to continuously emerge is that depression appears to occur much more
in western cultures (US, Canada, UK, Holland) than in Asian (Japan, Taiwan, China) cultures. Such
differences in rates of depression have been attributed to a number of factors such as differences in
the amount of humiliation attached to depression (Asian cultures stigmatizing symptoms of
depression more than Western cultures) and to different levels of social support (with Asian
cultures have a much more sense of collectivist community and social support from family and
peers in contrast to individualistic western cultures). However these findings are also subject to
scrutiny as with many cross cultural research studies. Ethnocentrism is usually the criticism that
emerges during these studies; for example, the issue of diagnosing/classifying one with depression
may differ country to country. Behaviour deemed abnormal in one country may be deemed normal
in another. In addition to this, language barriers are likely to intervene, and researchers are likely
to misinterpret subjects they are studying if there is a culture clash. Such differences may therefore
justify the variation in prevalence of depression as oppose to being a true reflection of cultural
differences. Aside from

Witness, By Australian Peter Weir
Introduction:
Witness is a film which explores the differences between the modern American and traditional
Amish communities. Directed by Australian Peter Weir, the film is set in 1985, in Pennsylvania,
America. Rachel Lapp and her young son, Samuel, leave the Amish community to travel to
Baltimore to visit Rachel s sister. Whilst waiting at the train station Samuel enters the bathroom
where he witnesses a murder of a police officer. This involves the appropriately named honest
detective John Book, who investigate the murder and does things by the book. Witness brings
together two different worlds and explores the effects. Witness also discusses organizational culture
in its revelations of the Philadelphia police force s entrenched corruption. ... Show more content on

In the Amish community, Samuel found Book s gun in the shelf, Eli warns Samuel of the
dangers of the gun and how it is unwelcomed in Samuel s community. This powerful scene shows
the loss of innocence in Samuel and the peaceful beliefs of the Amish. This is compared to the
scenario of the story where the corruption and base of this thriller is because of drug deals within
high officials of the Philadelphia police station. The corruption from high officials is passed
down to lower levels police officers. The greed for money from these drug deals causes the
imminent death of a police officer who is supposedly is a part of the team. This represents how far
the corruption can lead, all because of greed for money.
Conclusion:
Witness is a deep film which explores many aspects of the modern world and compares it to the
prehistoric life style of the Amish. It highlights the important of socialism and represents how two
different cultures can

Summary Of The New Science Of Mind By Kandel
The brain is a very complex organ that conducts several mental processes. Kandel s article The
New Science of Mind describes how scientist are now able to describe the way brain processes are
linked to mental disorders. I recall learning about the different functions of the parts of the brain in
anatomy class. The hypothalamus regulates important body s systems, the amygdala has to do with
our emotions, the hippocampus helps us remember things, and the prefrontal cortex which enables
personality expression and moderates social behavior, as Kandel portrays in his research. As a
psychologymajor I am interested in the way the brain plays a role in mental disorders. He states
that a dysfunction in brain processes is what causes mental illnesses.

Break Dancing Research Paper
One of the first famous Hip Hop Deejays was Dj Kool Herc. He was an 18 year old Jamaican
immigrant who introduced huge sound systems of Jamaica to many parties in the city of New
York. He used two turn tables to blend percussion based beats with older songs and popular dance
songs to create a continuous flow of music. Along with Kool Herc other Deejays such as Grand
Wizard Theodore, Afrika Bambaataa, and Grandmaster Flash. These Deejays were also known
for being the first to isolate the break beat (the part of the song where there is just drums keeping
the beat) to open up the dance floor freestyle dancing. This later gained its title Break Dancing.

Examples Of Authority In The Crucible
Authority is something probably most people want to have. Authority is the power or right to give
order and enforce rules. In Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, John Procter, John Hale, and
Governor Danforth all show an immense amount of authority throughout the play. I know that
Governor Danforth shows the most power in the play, especially with how many questions he asks
to get answers. Miller really establishes who has the power throughout the story. John Proctor
proves Parris s greed when he says, Since we built the church there were pewter candlesticks upon
the altar; Francis Nurse made them, y know, and a sweeter hand never touched the metal. But Parris

Character Analysis Okonkwo
Things Fall Apart Okonkwo
In the novel Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo is a character who shows the
difficulty of staying true and saving his religion. Okonkwo is a very strong man. At times he may
be very stubborn, like most men. With many occasions he is very impatient and struggles with
controlling his anger. In the book, he is exiled for seven years. During those seven years
missionaries come into the village and try to make all of the Ibo tribe convert into Christianity.
Since he,Okonkwo, is not there to kick them out they have managed to convince a few people,
including his son. This leads him to be very upset and angry when he comes out of exile. The
author, Chinua Achebe, is trying to show culture and strength ... Show more content on

It was very obvious that Okonkwo was not willing to convert, he stayed and instead tried to get as
many people as he could to stand up to them and begin a war to get the British out one and for all.
The story would have gone much different if he would have agreed with the british and converted
without going down with a fight. It would not seem like him.
Additionally, the theme of this meaningful novel is culture conflict. It proves to see if danger
that you know is going to overpower your culture and effect your life, do you join it or fight for
what you believe in. That is exactly what Okonkwo did. No matter what the issue was he always
knew that he had done something wrong and and did his time, but in the end of the day he still
stood up for what he believed in. Just like today cultures should still treat each other with respect
and respect different beliefs. At the end of the novel, Okonkwo had hung himself because he
knew the missionaries would eventually and he wanted to be the one with the power to take his
life. He decided to be the bigger person and take his own life instead of giving them the power.
In the final analysis, Okonkwo was very unsatisfied with the coming of the British. He begins to
become more intimidating and decided to stand up for his tribe, sadly no one had his back.
Okonkwo becomes a tragic hero because he has tried to save his tribe, culture, and life but has
failed in doing so. Okonkwo impacts the story by

The Pros And Cons Of A DNA Database
A DNA data base is a very helpful but potentially dangerous tool that has been recently considered
by the US, but has faced some controversy. In practice a DNA database would contain profiles and
potentially samples of every citizen s DNA. The DNA profile, while not extremely revealing in
itself, has been called out as a privacy violation. While it has its benefits the privacy issue will not
disappear so we must explore both options before we can make a decision about a DNAdatabase.
While controversy exists for a DNA database, the US possessing such a resource could possibly be
one of the greatest advantages our government has ever possessed. Many times in crimeshows you
see a miracle DNA identification, but in reality there is less than .1% of our population recorded
in such a fashion. With a nationalized DNA database it would be substantially easier to solve
many crimes where DNA presents itself. It would also create a way to ID people even when they
provide false papers or identity. Though perhaps the greatest point in favor of a national database is
the simple fact that if your innocent you... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

consider the public image of this move when we are basically saying to the parents of newborns
We require DNA samples in case your child grows up to be a criminal . There is also the chance
of the DNA database being compromised and outside hands getting ahold of the sensitive data. As I

The fourth largest electric utility company in the United States and the largest electric utility in
Florida is the FPL Group, which formed in 1925 from the consolidation of several gas and electric
companies. FPL as a company continued to grow after 1925 because the ever increasing Florida
population demanded more and more electricity. This trend continued until the 1970s when
operating problems, and the rising cost of fuel and construction, caused a reduction of the company
s profitability. To address this issue, then Chairman Marshall McDonald, decided to make four

The fear in cutting dividends though always is in the hands of the shareholders, where their fears
could cause a large drop in stock price.
The four options for dividend disbursement that FPL has are to first to keep the dividends at the
status quo of 1.6%, second to slower the dividend growth to 1%, third to freeze dividend, and
last to reduce or eliminate the dividend completely. When analyzing the first option, which is
the keep the dividends at an increasing 1.6% per year, exhibit TN 4 shows that dividend payouts
do increase from $468.38 million in 1994 to $499.08 million in 1998 with a resulting negative net
cash after dividends every year till 1997 when cash is $110 million and 1998 when cash is $102
million. The payout ratio however does reduce to 84% by 1998.
The second option available for FPL was to slower the dividend growth to 1%. Analysis of
exhibit TN 4 here shows that dividends grow from $465.61 million in 1994 to $484.52 million
in 1998. The resulting negative net cash flows are still eminent in years 1994 1996 but become
positive in 1997 with $121 million and 1998 with $116 million. The payout ratio is this option does
become closer to the desired 80% by 1998 when the payout ratio is 81%
The third option was to freeze the dividend at $2.48 per share. The dividend payout stayed constant
at $461 million from 1994 to 1998. With this, the

Essay on Reducing the National Deficit
Reducing the National Deficit
Many United States citizens are unaware of the country s current financial state. Many assume that
one of the world s wealthiest countries could never be in debt. This is untrue however, and, in fact,
the country with the greatest income per capita is in major debt. This study will examine possible
solutions to reducing the United States national budget deficit.
Understanding the National Deficit
The amount of money that the United States government owes as of October 17, 2004 at
03:48:52 pm GMT was $7,435,016,998.21. The debt has increased by an average of $1.7 billion
per day since September 30, 2003! From a more individual perspective, currently the United States
population is roughly around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The debt skyrocketed to an astounding $279 billion by the year 1946.
When World War II ended in 1949, the debt grew at a slow and steady pace for the next 20 years.
When the Vietnam War began in the 1960 s the debt accelerated sharply. Thanks to the growth of
television and news media, growth of the deficit was widely publicized. For the first time, the
American people were given access to what was going on with the nation s debt. When the Gulf
War began the early 1990 s, the national debt reached a trillion dollars for the first time. By the end
of the Gulf War, the government decided to make amendments to fix the continuing problem with
the deficit. Despite those promises to reduce spending, the debt is currently at it highest point ever.
Who is the Nation Indebted to?
The United States borrows money from individuals that have bought Treasury Bills, Notes, Bonds,
and United States Savings Bonds. The U.S. government also borrows money by issuing Treasury
securities. These securities finance expenditures that exceed its receipts, and are legal under the
authority of the Second Liberty Bond Act. The government s primary source of income is through
taxes paid by its citizens. Supposedly, money is spent on programs that government officials
consider necessary to ensure the best quality of life for all (or at least the majority) of the nation s
citizens. The combination of these amounts is what makes up the national

Moving Out Of My House In Iowa Falls
The house that built me
Never in a million years did I think that I would be moving out of my house in Iowa Falls.
Growing up my dream had always been to someday move back to Iowa Falls, and live in that
house. That was until my mom and dad sat me down on the porch after one of my baseball
games and broke the news that we d be moving to Clear Lake after baseball season. I had had
known for a couple months that there was a good chance that we were going to be moving. I sat
there on the enclosed front porch looking out around the neighborhood thinking about all the great
times that I d had at that house.
When you would approach my house you would notice a large evergreen tree sitting right
outside our house, it used to look like one of those big Christmas Trees that you d see on tv
getting lit up, but it got a disease that killed a lot of the branches. The branches that were left on
the tree were like ladders making it perfect for climbing. There were many days that my brothers

Peripeteia means a turning point or a reversal moment, while anagnorisis means a point where a
person becomes aware of his or her true nature. Tom is in turning point of his life because
turning a waste into something else is not what majority people would think of, most of us will
be disgusted by only thinking about the concept. However not for Tom, he is actually passionate
in the ecological concept and his belief of doing good and making good money at the same time,
which is what anagnorisis means. Just like the pig farmers who gathered all the wastes from big
casinos in Las Vegas, and fed his pigs with very nutritious food that eventually double size them,
Tom could do the same! Tom could utilize the waste and turn it into something profitable. He
has to believe in himself and just like Jared says, as long as you like what you re doing, people
will be drawn into that positivity. He needs to be brave because this is not what majority of people

Social Media And Digital Technology
Imagine living in the modern world without the convenience of social media and digital
technology. We always hear that technology has changed the way people live by making peoples
life easier and interesting. Scientist, engineers, etc. are always developing new technologies to
make one s life easier, social media and websites regularly update their applications increasing ease
of use and becoming more users friendly. The creation and evolution of social media and digital
technology has opened up new avenues for people to communicate, travel and obtain entertainment.
Cell phones, internet, and e mailing are some of the few technologies that have improved the way
we communicate. Of course, our grandparents did not have access to these technologies when
they were our age. Back then people sent messages through the mail in order to communicate
with family, friends, and loved ones that lived in different areas. In the modern era, it is so much
easier to connect with our family, friends, and loved ones using the internet, our cell phones by
sending them e mails or an SMS, they will receive these messages very fast and they are going to

Charles And The Tell Tale Heart Comparison
In both The Tell Tale Heart and Charles we learn that sometimes your imagination can get the

it have. In the The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen poe the young man killed the older man,
because he had a point of motivation. His point of motivation was in the beginning, it was the
old man s eye. A pale blue eye, with a thick film over it. The young man felt as if the eye was

my hand upon the heart and held it there many minutes. There was no pulsation. This sentence

Nigeria Economic Outlook

This document will discuss economic concerns of Nigeria. Specially addressed will be the
following: Nigeria s economic outlook, gross domestic product, inflation, and deprecation of the
naira. This paper will conclude with a summary of this discussion.
Nigeria Economic Outlook
Nigeria s parliament approved the 2017 budget in May. The economy falling from low oil prices,
which have led to recession, a plummeting naira and a spike in inflation, the budget aims to
jumpstart growth by ramping up capital spending on roads, rail, ports and power. The significant
fiscal shortfall is set to be plugged by a mixture of loans and bonds, although with foreign investors

Inflation
Nigeria s consumer prices increased 17.24 percent year on year in April of 2017, easing slightly
from a 17.26 percent rise in the prior month. The inflation rate fell for the third straight month to
the lowest in nine months, led by a slowdown in prices of housing and utilities and transport
(Wilson, David, Inyiama, Beatrice, 2014). annual core inflation rate was 14.75 percent, the
lowest since April last year. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 1.60 percent.
Inflation Rate in Nigeria averaged 12.38 percent from 1996 until 2017, reaching an all time high
of 47.56 percent in January of 1996 and a record low of 2.49 percent in January of 2000.
Compared to April of 2016, prices went up at a slower pace for housing and utilities (16.05
percent vs 18.85 percent) and transport (14.91 percent vs 15.43 percent). Meanwhile, cost rose
faster for food (19.30 percent vs 18.44 percent), including bread ,cereals, meat, fish, potatoes, yams

How Did The Crusades Affect The World
The crusades were a series of wars mainly between the Christians and Muslims over the holy city
of Jerusalem. The Crusades lasted some 200 years. The two religions didn t see eye to eye, the
Christians saw the Islamic religion as a threat to Christianity. In the year 1095 Pope Urban II
charged a crusade against the muslims in Jerusalem. Many people went on a crusade for different
reasons. Many were strictly religious, while others were money related, some even went to avoid
imprisonment. The Crusadesstill impact the world we live in today. There are many lasting effects
that the crusades had on that part of the world and some even worldwide.
The crusades are important because they were the first time that peoples religion caused them to
go to war. People were brainwashed into thinking that what they were doing was God s will.
People were driven to do things that were one hundred percent contradictory to their religions
teachings, the bible says thou shall not kill . The holy city of Jerusalem is an important place for
multiple religions. Two of the larger ones are Christianityand Islam. These two have many things
in common, their differences are quite minimal compared to other religions. One Pope declared the
crusade to regain the city for Christianity, and it caused not only 200 years of blood battles and
crimes, but issues still arise today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Prison Reform in America
Prison Reform in America
In the essay Prison Reform in America, Roger T. Pray points out the much attention that has been
devoted to research to help prevent crimes. Showing criminals the errors of their ways not by brutal

The Disease Of Cystic Fibrosis

The history of Cystic Fibrosis dates back to the 1930 s. People would realize that
children with salty skin often died in infancy and younger ages. The disease was first named
in 1936 by pediatrician Guido Fanconi. A profile published by a Dorothy Hansine in 1938,
described the characteristics and symptoms of this disease and what exact organs it relates to.
However, this did not help prolong nor solve the issue or help assist in any treatments at the
time. It was finally discovered in 1949 by Dr. Anderson, that Cystic Fibrosis was a recessive
mutant gene. More advances were not made until the 1980 s when researchers discovered
organ damage and the malfunctioning of the epithelial tissue were caused by this disease called
Cystic Fibrosis . ( Who discovered Cystic Fibrosis? Page 1, http://reliawire.com/who

Nowadays, eye allergy examination is usually made by means of advanced procedures so that the
hidden troubles or issues can be easily and accurately detected without any confusion. Infectious
conjunctivitis spread faster and this is why the internal tissues or cells of your eyes can get badly
affected if the infectious elements are not detected on time.
Medical histories are also checked out in order to find out that whether your eyes have got any
existing troubles or not. If your eye condition is week from the very beginning, then in that case
conjunctivitis can be quite dreadful as disastrous results might occur. If you have weak retina or
high power, then infectious elements can make your eye condition more critical and this is the
reason medical histories need to be judged properly. Slit lamp microscope is generally used by the
eye specialists so that eye examinations can be conducted with great care and higher accuracy.

Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
William Golding uses many objects and characters in his story, Lord of the Flies , to develop
and symbolize certain aspects of his story. Lord of the Flies is a story that contrasts good with
evil. The story shows how a society without any set up regulations, develop and grow into a
civilization. The novel shows this by placing a group of young boys on an island with no parents.
These pre adolescents give us an inside look at our inner desires and inclinations. Throughout this
story, William uses many distinct symbolsto move his story along and show some of the hidden
messages. The author not only places symbols throughout the book, but he makes the symbols
dynamic. Throughout the Novel the symbols are constantly changing. This brings a new
perspective to the story. Through the changing symbols we can gain a vast understanding of the
plot and the sequence of the events in the story. With the help of dynamic symbols such as the
conch, fire, and the island, we can interrupt the islands society in a new light.
Power was a main theme in The Lord of the Flies . It was mainly represented by the conch that
Ralph was always in possession of. In the beginning of the Novel, it was a representation of
power. On the island, if you wanted to speak, you had to be holding the conch. Meetings were
also called by the conch. The power of the conch shell is seen when all the...boys vote for Ralph
because he blew the conch. (Golding Chapter 1). When the island boys help an election for

In this case, Kallessi, Maya and the new supplier are all involved in an agency. An agency is a
bilateral, onerous, consensual contract whereby one party, the principal authorises another, the
agent to execute business on his behalf (McLaren, 2015). An agency involves three parties
which are a principal, an agent and a third party. The agent is the person whose acts are asserted
by the third party to bind the principal (Swett and Schneier, 2012). In this situation Kallessi is the
principal, Maya is the agent, and the new supplier is the third party. Maya as an agent was given
express authority, which means her authority was set by the contract to carry out the task passed

On The Rainy River Rhetorical Analysis
Rhetorical Analysis Paper
The relationship you have with others often has a direct effect on the basis of your very own
personal identity. In the essay On The Rainy River, the author Tim O Brien tells about his
experiences and how his relationship with a single person had affected his life so dramatically.
It is hard for anyone to rely fully on their own personal experiences when there are so many other
people out there with different experiences of their own. Sometimes it takes the experiences and
knowledge of others to help you learn and build from them to help form your own personal
identity. In the essay, O Brien speaks about his experiences with a man by the name of Elroy
Berdahl, the owner of the fishing lodges that O Brien stays on while on how journey to find
himself. The experiences O Brien has while there helps him to open his mind and realize what his
true personal identity was. It gives you a sense than our own personal identities are built on the
relationships we have with others. There are many influences out there such as our family and
friends. Sometimes even groups of people such as others of our nationality and religion have a
space in building our personal identities.
In the essay O Brien is faced with a conflict, a moral dilemma. He had to decide whether he was
either going to go to the war and fight or was he going to run away and avoid the draft. The
relationship he had with Berdahl was not of friends or even regular acquaintances. Rather they
were perfect strangers. That goes to show you that anyone can be a major influence on your life.
Berdahl helped to open O Brien s heart. He realized who he was and where he had come from, his
past and what he has been through. How all the events of the past helped him to become the person
he was right now. How his past helped form his personal identity.
The formation of our own personal identities often begins at birth. As you grow up, your parents
are a major influence on you. They teach you many things and help to shape your personal identity.
They teach you the basics, from knowing right from wrong with your basic moral values. Your
moral values are often built upon the basic morals your parents have and what they have taught you
in return.

Examples Of Love In Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle...
Love is one of the most powerful forces in the world, and one of the most difficult to describe. It

Many people believe that everyone has one true lovesomewhere in the world, and spend their lives

love between family members, friends, different races, and even the love for oneself, both in the

Hyena In Life Of Pi Orangutan Essay
A fable, according to M.H. Abrams, is a short narrative . . . that exemplifies an abstract moral
thesis or principle of human behavior; Abrams states that the most common form of fable is
known as a beast fable , in which animals represent humans and their characteristics. Yann Martel
uses this technique in The Life of Pi, in which Pi a human is trapped in a boat with Richard Parker

Pi s father describes hyenas as having The strongest jaws in nature. Don t think that they re
cowardly or that they only eat carrion. They re not and they don t! They ll start eating you while

The hyena is described less humanely than the orangutan, though Pi describes its taste as having
catholicity (129) which is something made up by humans. Pi also tells the reader that a hyena
will essentially eat anything, from it s own kind to another s feces. When Pi is telling the story
without animals to the lawyers, he says about the cook that, Nothing went to waste with this
monster. He cut up everything, including the sailor s skin and every inch of his intestines (341).
This resourcefulness and utter lack of discrepancy for what he s preparing to eat, as well as the
fact that the cook prepared the sailor as he was still alive is very similar to the eating habits of the
hyena. In the awful situation these characters were in, the Cook s animalistic instincts for his own

Intertextuality In Walang Forever
Analyzing Genres and Intertextuality: A Critical Paper on the Film Walang Forever
Genre Analysis The genre analysis approach in analyzing media texts helps classify and
breakdown the different genres that were recognized by the viewers as well as created by the
movie makers. These genres offer satisfaction to their target audience brought by the pleasure of
having predicted what was supposed to happen during the film. Genre analysis also identifies
whether there is intertextuality present in relation to other films with the same genre. The
recognition of these genres and having identified their importance within the media text will help
the audience to relate the different cinematic elements of the film and gain more understanding of
the ideas that the media text wanted to convey.
Genre Analysis and Ideology
Having mentioned that the recognition of genres within a media text offer pleasure or satisfaction
to its audience, it is implied that genre analysis is also related to the different ideologies offered
by the media text since there is a momentary satisfaction gained from having achieved the goal of
identifying the genres and predicting the possible outcome of the media text. However, the paper

Gender Inequality In The Healthcare Sector
Executive Summary
In the healthcare sector, gender equality is based on providing equal opportunities for men and
women in all areas or settings. Gender can be defined as those characteristics of men and women
that are socially constricted and determined while sex is associated with characteristics that are
biologically determined. There is a lack of demand and support for advanced research on women
health and diseases, specifically decision makers, support staff, or even researchers and authors.
Many young women and adolescents have found it difficult to access, utilize, or even make their
own decisions in context to reproductive health, specifically abortions, unsafe pregnancies, and
pacing. Women and men from low income, culturally background, and poor socio economic
conditions are deprived of basic healthcare facilities. In the past decade, gender inequality in the
healthcare sector has been associated with age, poverty, socioeconomic condition, and ethnic
diversity of men and women. Gender inequality is not only restricted to healthcare access and
utilization but also affects men and women who seek employment opportunities. In most cases,
only men are dominant in working for specific healthcare positions. Contribution from women
healthcare workers or staff is lower compared to the male workforce that is huge in many areas of
the healthcare system. There is a lack of services and products for women and men coming from
culturally minority or low income groups.

The During The Reconstruction Era
During the Reconstruction era which occurred after the Civil War there was animosity between the
states as well as the debate over how freed slaves should be dealt with in terms of becoming citizens
with the same rights as the Constitution provided for whites. The government had to come up some
type of conditions which would attempt to allow the rebellious southern states back into the union.
During this time period President Abraham Lincoln appointed provisional military governors to
oversee the re establishment of the southern states into the union as well as a functioning
government. Yet, during the late 1800 s the Republicans ruled Congress and made efforts during the
Reconstruction end to ensure that everyone had the same equal rights by passing the Civil Rights
Bill to ensure that everyone had equal rights. This also led to questions as to what to do with the
recently freed blacks. The main problem was with the Southern states and getting them to except
black, so the government implemented laws and Constitutional Amendments which helped the
federal government with the enforcement of equal rights which would give blacks in the south the
rights to hold office and vote. This leads us to the freeman s Bureau which was also a part of the
Reconstruction Act. The Reconstruction act of 1867 required southern states to except and ratify
the 14th Amendment granting equal protection for the freed blacks, and the 15th Amendment
guaranteed the right for blacks to vote. Blacks

The Ecology Of Commerce By Environmentalist Paul Hawken
Part I: Introduction
The Ecology of Commerce, written by Environmentalist Paul Hawken, is an insightful, although
daunting, look into economic and corporate sustainability. The first rule of sustainability is to align
with natural forces, or at least not try to defy them . This quote, spoken by Paul Hawken himself, is
a perfect demonstration of the major theme he carefully analyzes within the book. Economics and
the environment are two words that you often don t see in the same sentence, despite the fact that
the influence economics has contributes to the deterioration of our environment gravely.
Part II: Background and Thesis Paul Hawken studies the many faults of the economic practices
we adhere to globally. Whether or not we agree with his beliefs is a decision we as readers need to
make. While an understanding of the environmental impacts is evident, as well as the biological
changes it has put forth on humans, I question if individual change really makes a difference to the
environment and the overall way the economy works. Hawken demonstrates a clear explanation to
back up his statement of absolute resource destruction, but I believe he underestimates the change
that may need to be done. I strongly believe we have reached a point in time where individual
change is inadmissible, and in order to save our planet, large corporations and their accountability
should be questioned. A world without sustainability, or more importantly a world without economic
integrity,

I chose Carr s painting Sconed as Timber, Beloved of the Sky for the main reason that as soon as
I opened up the image my eyes instantly widened from the tree standing in the middle casted

Georgia s Craft Beer Industry
Problem Statement From the end of prohibition in 1933 to the turn of the new millennium,
Georgia s craft beer industry had seen more failure than success. Over a 67 year span, 9 of the 14
microbreweries to operate in the state failed. Was it the cost and availability of big beer and
product loyalty that caused this to happen?
But in 2013, Georgia s craft beer industry took a drastic turn. Microbreweries were opening at an
exponential rate. That year, Creative Loafing, an alternative news weekly, reported eight
microbreweries opening in the city of Atlanta, alone. Georgia had entered into a craft beer boom.
Today, there are 31 microbreweries operating in Georgia, and 24 more in planning, bringing the
total to 55 of these small production breweries. What could have changed to cause an historically
failed industry to boom in such a short period of time?
Millennials.
According to U.S. Census data, Georgia s population of Millennials, defined as those born between
1980 and 2000, significantly increased between 2010 and 2014, the generation growing from
15.3% of the population in 2010 to 26.61% of the population in 2014. (Pew Research, U.S. Census).
Earlier this year, Forbes reported that the group with the most purchasing power in the United
States had shifted from the Baby Boomers to the Millennials. It is estimated that Millennials in the
U.S. alone will spend around $200 billion annually by 2017.

Why Is Parthena Important In Greek Art
The Statue of Athena Parthenos It was dedicated to the city s deity Athena. The temple was made to

Some sculpture details and descriptions of the statue allowed the piece to be accurately

The similarity in their names represents the sisterhood of the godess.2 Similarly, Athena was
called Mykene in the city of Mycenae (also a plural after the respective sisterhood), and Thebe in
the city of Thebes (or Thebae, both plural forms). 2
Athena Parthenos in Greek translates to Athena the virgin. The statue is a massive 11.5 metres
tall and stood on a pedestal that measured to be 4.09 by 8.04 metres. Athena Parthenos was made
out of Gold and Ivory. In her right hand, she holds a 4 cubit tall statue called Nike. In her left
hand, she holds a circular shield that rests on the floor. She also has a spear and a coiled snake
that is between her shield and foot on the left side. On her head is a triple crested helmet which
has a sphinx and 2 griffins on either side. The base of the statue depicts the birth of Pandora being
watched by the gods of Olympus. The picture above is one of the many replicas of the

Parent Child Relationship Essay
How Parents can Better Love Understand Their Kids
Theresa Gusler
Liberty University
CCOU 302
Abstract
This paper is about showing your children that you love them by promoting boundaries. It will
explain what kids really want their parents know and understand. This paper also gets down to the
basics of how to be a beacon of hope in this dark world. Show how to help our children maneuver
through troubling situations by giving them positive values to fall back on. Love is the common
thread which binds us together and without love, boundaries and discipline would not succeed the
way it is meant to. This paper looks at different ways to be active at home, how to have a joy filled
home, and how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ziglar also said, A solid foundation for children involves a solid moral base meaning...you need to
practice what you preach.
You need to look for and expect good from your children, stop looking at the bad and negative
things and look for the good and positive in them and they will bloom (Ziglar, 1998, p. 51). Be
specific when you find something good in your child, tell them what it is exactly and continue to
lift them up.
Being Available as an EmotionCoach
According to Gottman (1997),
We need to help our kids deal with their emotions by being their emotion coaches and we do that
with five steps 1) by being aware of their emotion, 2) recognize the emotion as a time for intimacy
and teaching, 3) listen to them and validate their feelings, 4) help label the emotion with words and
5) set limits while finding ways to solve the problem (p.24).
In step one, the focus is on recognizing when you are feeling an emotion, you can identify the
feelings, and you are able to be sensitive to emotions in others (p. 76). Step two, when parents can
use a negative experience to bring forth bonding with their children it builds intimacy and it teaches
them how to deal with their feelings (p.93). During step three, two things take place, listening
empathetically and validating the child s feelings. Gottman suggests that this may be the most
important step in emotion coaching! Not only are you listening with your ears, but you are

Meaning And Definition Of Ledger By J. R. Batliboi
Meaning and Definition of Ledger
According to J.R. Batliboi , The ledger is the chief of accounts and it is in this book that all the
business transactions would ultimately find their place under their accounts in a duly classified form.
A Ledger should be kept in the form of bound register, or in the form of cards or in punched sheets
or it can be in the form of loose leaf binder. Every account in the ledger is opened preferably or it
can be in a separate page or card
These all business transactions are first recorded in Journal or Special Purpose Subsidiary Books.
The next step is to transfer the entries to the respective accounts in Ledger. In other words this

All transactions relating to an account should be entered at one place. In others words, two separate
accounts should not be opened for posting transactions relating to the same account. If there are two
customers with similar names, say the Account of Anil (of Karol Bagh) and the Account of Anil (of
Chandni Chowk).
2.The word To is used before the accounts which appear on the debit side of an account. Similarly,
the word By is used before the accounts which appear on the credit side of an account.
3.If an account has been debited in the journal entry, the posting in the Ledger should also be made
on the debit side of such account. In the particular column, the name of the other account which has
been credited in the Journal entry should be written for reference.
4.If an account has been credited in the Journal entry, the posting in the Ledger should also be made
on the credit side of such account. In the particular column, the name of the other account which

Pros And Cons Of Aspartame
Aspartame Controversy
There has been much research and controversy about the chemical C14H18N205, aka aspartame.
Even though a large amount of research has been done on aspartame, most people are unaware of
the dangers. As consumers, it is important to educate ourselves on what the FDA is approving for
human consumption.
Aspartame is the most common and one of three alternative sweeteners in the United States which
can be found in more than 6,000 products and is consumed by more than 200 million people
around the world (Calorie Control, 2015). You will find these man made sweeteners in many
reduced calorie foods; such as, jams and jellies, powdered soft drinks, maple syrups, chewing
gum, juice blends, frozen desserts, cereals, hard candy and the most popular of products being
sodas. Aspartame is also seen in little pink packets of Sweet Low on restaurant tables. Besides
being found in vitamins its important use is in many low calorie and sugar free beverages and ...

Aspartic acid significantly raises the blood plasma shortly after ingesting aspartame which leads
to a high level of those neurotransmitters in certain areas of the brain. Too much of the toxin will
stimulate the brain cells to death. Many people are not aware of the many issues and problems
surrounding aspartame because they are not reported in the newspapers or on the news. This is
because the incidents happen one at a time across the U.S. and mainly because people do not
associate their symptoms with the long term use of aspartame.
The FDA has set its acceptable daily intake for aspartame at 50mg. A 12 ounce can of diet soda
contains 180mg of aspartame; and Americans consume approximately 200mg of aspartame daily.
Nutritionists recommend that it would be best to avoid any and all additives in foods, including
aspartame, as they are synthetic chemicals. Instead, choose sweeteners that you recognize as foods
such as honey, pure maple syrup, stevia and apple

Great Assyrians And Egyptian Pharaohs
Throughout art history many rulers have faced the same problems that come to even the most
common of people. No matter how much power a dynasty ruler gained, they could not feel and
ensure for themselves a valiant future after death. Great Assyrians and Egyptian Pharaohs alike
wanted to ensure their absolute power in this life and the next. From art they could make sure that
their image would have the best chance of surviving even after they themselves have passed away.
In eras where a new ruler could change and deplete the entire region, art was a long lasting image
and message that would translate and stay with the perceiver. Art containing pictures of idealistic
animals inferred an absolute image of power and respect no matter what the... Show more content

In either case it is from the same area and Mesopotamian era. During this time art was mostly
military, and the most important parts of the palace were stored with scenes of war and chase
(Delaporte). A place where the griffin s literal and figurative image of strength would fit right in.
The Furniture Plaque Carved in Relief with a Griffin in a Floral Landscape is a square plaque
measuring 7.8 cm by 6.1 cm, and carved out of ivory from an elephant tusk, most likely from
African elephants imported from south of Egypt (The Met.). The picture on the face of the plaque
is of a griffin, an animal having the head and wings of an eagle attached to a body and
hindquarters of a lion ( Griffin ). The griffin shown has sharp talons and beak with pointed eyes.
Lions were repeatedly seen throughout Assyrian artwork (Ascalone). The muscular legs and
abdomen paired with a strong neck and flanks gave a symbolic image of the ideal solider or
army. People in this era knew how lions would have appeared face to face, untamed and never
enclosed. To a people with needed protection from lions, their image represented a dominance and
power. Two tenons, or pieces of wood that would have joined this artwork with another, suggest
that there were more works of art surrounding it (The Met.). Other animals were also symbolic and
literal figures for the Assyrians as they could represent tributes of power to characteristics such as
being regal. For example, the

The On Rain Forest Floor During Ecology Research
Introduction
In an attempt to avoid walking on the rain forest floor during ecology research in South America,
rope walkways were strung from tree to tree. To ensure the safety of the researchers, the maximum
weight that could be carried from tree to tree without the walkways collapsing had to be set. To
model this system, two pulleys containing a central object suspended halfway between them with
counterweights of equal mass on the outside of the pulleys was created, as shown in Figure 1. Our
goal was to determine how the sag of the walkway was related to the total mass at the center of the
pulleys.
Figure 1: The apparatus used (not to scale). A and C are the masses of the counterweight objects.
A and C are equal masses. B is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
F1 is the weight of counterweight A, F2 is the weight of counterweight C, and Fw is the weight of
the central object. Also shown are the forces on a coordinate system for the counterweights and the
central object. The distances between the pulleys and the sag of the walkway are also shown on a
coordinate system.
The system is in equilibrium, so we assumed that the horizontal and vertical components of the
forces will add up to zero. The counterweights A and C both had an equal mass, so they were both
referred to as F1 to simplify calculations. Where Mw is the force of the mass of object B and
gravity is g, we could solve for Fw. Fw = Mwg (1)
Using the mass of the counterweight objects A and C, the force F1 can be calculated using MA
and gravity. Because the pulleys are frictionless the force F1 should be the same magnitude on all
parts of the string between the center object and the object A.
F1 = MAg (2)
Using the trigonometry function sin, a combination of equations (1) and (2), and the law of
equilibrium ОЈF = 0 where Fy=0 and Fx=0, the angle П• can be found.
F1sinП• + F1sinП• = Fw (3)
Rearranging equation (3) to give the angle П• by itself gives П• = sin 1(Fw/2F1) (4)
Since the walkway system creates a right triangle, the laws of trigonometry could also be used.
With the distance where the object B lies between the pulleys as L/2 and the angle П•, the sag of
the central object, D, could be found.
D = LtanП•/2 (5)
Combining equations (4) and (5) to

Behavior Therapy Theory
This paper explores theory of Behavior Therapy. This approach applies the principals of learning to
the resolution of specific behavioral problems. Result is subject to continual experimentation. The
methods of this approach are always in the process of refinement. It explains that Behavior is the
product of learning. We are both the product of and the producer of our environment. There are a
few main topics that explain this theory, which includes therapeutic goals, therapeutic relationship,

home, by this I mean when my brother behavior was changing due to using weed my family
behavior was affected in the process too. My parents became stricter with my sister and I. Every
time something went wrong my parents would blame my sister and I. I felt like behavioral theory
fit into what my family was going through. During the time I didn t have any knowledge of what
behavioral therapy was, but when I started to learn about it I would think of my brother. Maybe
it s not the right example to compare it to, but I feel like it is because of the behavior he was
learning when he was hanging out with those people. The environment he was during those days
made him act different when he was with our family. Some people might argue that it s their
own choice to behave the way they want too, but if he would have been in different environment
things might have been different. His goals might have been different. Eventually, now that he is
doing better in life I ask him, what was going through your head when you were smoking
marijuana? His response I was going to a lot of stress during those time with work, and school I
needed to relax and a few of my friends suggested to smoke weed. According, to them it was an
easy way out and it was harmless. But, it turn out

Essay on Proper Use of Police Discretion
Proper use of discretion is probably the most important measure of a police officer or department.
Rich Kinsey (retired police detective)
Police officers are faced each day with a vast array of situations with which they must deal. No
two situations they encounter are ever the same, even when examines a large number of situations
over an extended period of time. The officers are usually in the position of having to make
decisions on how to handle a specific matter alone, or with little additional advice and without
immediate supervision. This is the heart of police discretion. As we shall find, the exercise of
discretion by police has benefits and problems associated with such exercise. The unfettered use of
discretion can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the Chief of police is not in the field, he/she will still have to use discretion in making
very important decisions that will affect the community and the police department.
The Chief of police may use discretion in a criminal investigation by deciding that some
information should not be shared with the public. In addition, the Chief of police might even give
a decision on which information to be shared to the public. The duty of the Chief of police is to
protect the public and so while making decisions, he has to be careful of the information the public
should know. One of the most important duties of the Chief of Police is to re assure the public of
their safety and so, he cannot comprised their safety by allowing certain information that could
harm them reach them. Therefore, while trying to keep the public safe and trying to inform them of
the investigations about criminal activities in their community without causing them panic, he/she
will make sure that the details that reaches them are limited so that f there are more criminals
among them, they are brought to book. In addition, the Chief of Police will give limited
information so as to save the public from more criminal activities, and to save their lives. For

Cocky versus Swagger in Beowulf and Sir Gowain Essay
Cocky vs. Swagger
In entertainment, no matter if it is movies, music, or plays. One can almost always look in the
story line and find a hero. The hero is perceived to be the character that everyone looks to step
forward in a time of need. The hero can be like a savior and is expected to be like a savior by the
other characters in the story in any and every situation. There is also a case in stories where the hero
has to be found and is more of the unsung type of character within a story in which that character
has to learn how to adjust to the advantages and disadvantages of their heroism and how it may
affect the other characters in the story. Beowulf and Sir Gowain posses these types of
characteristics and by actually reading the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heroes are heroes because they show exceptional amounts of courage, and they do it consistently
on the everyday basis. That is not possible to do. The extraordinary things that Beowulf and Sir
Gowain do are things that the average man would not do because of the lack of courage and
confidence. That is why heroes are who they are, the best of the best. They stick out from the
crowd and that is why one may feel like they deserve more than just the regular confidence that
the average man gets, it is only necessary. Being a hero is more of a mental challenge than
anything else, because one has to believe in oneself more than any other person can believe in
them because whoever believes in the hero can not possibly know and understand just exactly
what the hero is going through. The other characters will never know and understand why the
hero faces the problems, defeats the problems, and overcomes the obstacles that the hero faces.
All that the characters and the people want in the stories is for whom ever the hero is, they want
that person to save them from the people or things that threaten them. In other words, the people
do no care so much about what the hero is going through, the people just want the hero to
deliver, so it is an absolute must for the hero s confidence to be above the average person. This also
applies for real life experiences for this day and age. The only difference is this is real life, and

  • 2. C Stanley s Portfolio The three portfolios I reviewed were different in the way each person wrote their life stories and their different skills and aspirations. Reading through the three portfolios, there are many different things I liked and I disliked in each of them. J.Johnson portfolio, number 20, wrote her personal/ career portfolio based on her high level of achievements and her dream future job to become a veterinarian. C. Stanley portfolio number 30, wrote his personal/ career portfolio based on his career has a hockey player and how hockey has had the biggest impact on his life. H. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would make a self assessment for the reason that I can critically reflect on my life this far and realize all I have went through and all of my achievements. People rarely have the chance to reflect on their whole life and I believe this would be a great opportunity to reflect. As I was reading through the portfolio s it was mentioned a few times about how reflecting on their life was enjoyable and that it made them realize things about themselves they never had before. It would also be a nice tool to use when you are feeling down or need a little motivation to see what you have achieved. It would also be nice to have in the future 10 years to see how far you have come and how much you have changed. I can t see myself giving away a professional portfolio which is why I would not want to create one over a personal one. Furthermore, I believe I will find priceless value in making a personal portfolio that I will reflect on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Cultural And Socio Economic Context Different cultural groups show distinctive rates and experiences of the disorder, reflecting their different cultural and socio economic context. Gotlib Hammen, (2002) propose a noticeable and explicit pattern that seems to continuously emerge is that depression appears to occur much more in western cultures (US, Canada, UK, Holland) than in Asian (Japan, Taiwan, China) cultures. Such differences in rates of depression have been attributed to a number of factors such as differences in the amount of humiliation attached to depression (Asian cultures stigmatizing symptoms of depression more than Western cultures) and to different levels of social support (with Asian cultures have a much more sense of collectivist community and social support from family and peers in contrast to individualistic western cultures). However these findings are also subject to scrutiny as with many cross cultural research studies. Ethnocentrism is usually the criticism that emerges during these studies; for example, the issue of diagnosing/classifying one with depression may differ country to country. Behaviour deemed abnormal in one country may be deemed normal in another. In addition to this, language barriers are likely to intervene, and researchers are likely to misinterpret subjects they are studying if there is a culture clash. Such differences may therefore justify the variation in prevalence of depression as oppose to being a true reflection of cultural differences. Aside from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Witness, By Australian Peter Weir Introduction: Witness is a film which explores the differences between the modern American and traditional Amish communities. Directed by Australian Peter Weir, the film is set in 1985, in Pennsylvania, America. Rachel Lapp and her young son, Samuel, leave the Amish community to travel to Baltimore to visit Rachel s sister. Whilst waiting at the train station Samuel enters the bathroom where he witnesses a murder of a police officer. This involves the appropriately named honest detective John Book, who investigate the murder and does things by the book. Witness brings together two different worlds and explores the effects. Witness also discusses organizational culture in its revelations of the Philadelphia police force s entrenched corruption. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Amish community, Samuel found Book s gun in the shelf, Eli warns Samuel of the dangers of the gun and how it is unwelcomed in Samuel s community. This powerful scene shows the loss of innocence in Samuel and the peaceful beliefs of the Amish. This is compared to the scenario of the story where the corruption and base of this thriller is because of drug deals within high officials of the Philadelphia police station. The corruption from high officials is passed down to lower levels police officers. The greed for money from these drug deals causes the imminent death of a police officer who is supposedly is a part of the team. This represents how far the corruption can lead, all because of greed for money. Conclusion: Witness is a deep film which explores many aspects of the modern world and compares it to the prehistoric life style of the Amish. It highlights the important of socialism and represents how two different cultures can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Summary Of The New Science Of Mind By Kandel The brain is a very complex organ that conducts several mental processes. Kandel s article The New Science of Mind describes how scientist are now able to describe the way brain processes are linked to mental disorders. I recall learning about the different functions of the parts of the brain in anatomy class. The hypothalamus regulates important body s systems, the amygdala has to do with our emotions, the hippocampus helps us remember things, and the prefrontal cortex which enables personality expression and moderates social behavior, as Kandel portrays in his research. As a psychologymajor I am interested in the way the brain plays a role in mental disorders. He states that a dysfunction in brain processes is what causes mental illnesses. ... In Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, John Procter, John Hale, and Governor Danforth all show an immense amount of authority throughout the play. I know that Governor Danforth shows the most power in the play, especially with how many questions he asks to get answers. Miller really establishes who has the power throughout the story. John Proctor proves Parris s greed when he says, Since we built the church there were pewter candlesticks upon the altar; Francis Nurse made them, y know, and a sweeter hand never touched the metal. Okonkwo is a very strong man. At times he may be very stubborn, like most men. With many occasions he is very impatient and struggles with controlling his anger. In the book, he is exiled for seven years. During those seven years missionaries come into the village and try to make all of the Ibo tribe convert into Christianity. It was very obvious that Okonkwo was not willing to convert, he stayed and instead tried to get as many people as he could to stand up to them and begin a war to get the British out one and for all. The story would have gone much different if he would have agreed with the british and converted without going down with a fight. It would not seem like him. Additionally, the theme of this meaningful novel is culture conflict. It proves to see if danger that you know is going to overpower your culture and effect your life, do you join it or fight for what you believe in. That is exactly what Okonkwo did. No matter what the issue was he always knew that he had done something wrong and and did his time, but in the end of the day he still stood up for what he believed in. Just like today cultures should still treat each other with respect and respect different beliefs. At the end of the novel, Okonkwo had hung himself because he knew the missionaries would eventually and he wanted to be the one with the power to take his life. He decided to be the bigger person and take his own life instead of giving them the power. In the final analysis, Okonkwo was very unsatisfied with the coming of the British. He begins to become more intimidating and decided to stand up for his tribe, sadly no one had his back. • 10. The Pros And Cons Of A DNA Database A DNA data base is a very helpful but potentially dangerous tool that has been recently considered by the US, but has faced some controversy. In practice a DNA database would contain profiles and potentially samples of every citizen s DNA. The DNA profile, while not extremely revealing in itself, has been called out as a privacy violation. While it has its benefits the privacy issue will not disappear so we must explore both options before we can make a decision about a DNAdatabase. While controversy exists for a DNA database, the US possessing such a resource could possibly be one of the greatest advantages our government has ever possessed. Many times in crimeshows you see a miracle DNA identification, but in reality there is less than .1% of our population recorded in such a fashion. With a nationalized DNA database it would be substantially easier to solve many crimes where DNA presents itself. It would also create a way to ID people even when they provide false papers or identity. Though perhaps the greatest point in favor of a national database is the simple fact that if your innocent you... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... FPL as a company continued to grow after 1925 because the ever increasing Florida population demanded more and more electricity. This trend continued until the 1970s when operating problems, and the rising cost of fuel and construction, caused a reduction of the company s profitability. Many assume that one of the world s wealthiest countries could never be in debt. This is untrue however, and, in fact, the country with the greatest income per capita is in major debt. This study will examine possible solutions to reducing the United States national budget deficit. Understanding the National Deficit The amount of money that the United States government owes as of October 17, 2004 at 03:48:52 pm GMT was $7,435,016,998.21. When World War II ended in 1949, the debt grew at a slow and steady pace for the next 20 years. When the Vietnam War began in the 1960 s the debt accelerated sharply. Thanks to the growth of television and news media, growth of the deficit was widely publicized. For the first time, the American people were given access to what was going on with the nation s debt. When the Gulf War began the early 1990 s, the national debt reached a trillion dollars for the first time. By the end of the Gulf War, the government decided to make amendments to fix the continuing problem with the deficit. Despite those promises to reduce spending, the debt is currently at it highest point ever. Who is the Nation Indebted to? The United States borrows money from individuals that have bought Treasury Bills, Notes, Bonds, and United States Savings Bonds. The U.S. government also borrows money by issuing Treasury securities. These securities finance expenditures that exceed its receipts, and are legal under the authority of the Second Liberty Bond Act. The government s primary source of income is through taxes paid by its citizens. Growing up my dream had always been to someday move back to Iowa Falls, and live in that house. That was until my mom and dad sat me down on the porch after one of my baseball games and broke the news that we d be moving to Clear Lake after baseball season. I had had known for a couple months that there was a good chance that we were going to be moving. I sat there on the enclosed front porch looking out around the neighborhood thinking about all the great times that I d had at that house. When you would approach my house you would notice a large evergreen tree sitting right outside our house, it used to look like one of those big Christmas Trees that you d see on tv getting lit up, but it got a disease that killed a lot of the branches. The branches that were left on the tree were like ladders making it perfect for climbing. Now answer these questions as completely as you can: 1) How do you imagine the concepts of anagnorisis and peripeteia might work in this example? (1 point) Peripeteia means a turning point or a reversal moment, while anagnorisis means a point where a person becomes aware of his or her true nature. Tom is in turning point of his life because turning a waste into something else is not what majority people would think of, most of us will be disgusted by only thinking about the concept. However not for Tom, he is actually passionate in the ecological concept and his belief of doing good and making good money at the same time, which is what anagnorisis means. Just like the pig farmers who gathered all the wastes from big casinos in Las Vegas, and fed his pigs with very nutritious food that eventually double size them, Tom could do the same! Tom could utilize the waste and turn it into something profitable. He has to believe in himself and just like Jared says, as long as you like what you re doing, people will be drawn into that positivity. In the essay On The Rainy River, the author Tim O Brien tells about his experiences and how his relationship with a single person had affected his life so dramatically. It is hard for anyone to rely fully on their own personal experiences when there are so many other people out there with different experiences of their own. Sometimes it takes the experiences and knowledge of others to help you learn and build from them to help form your own personal identity. Sometimes even groups of people such as others of our nationality and religion have a space in building our personal identities. In the essay O Brien is faced with a conflict, a moral dilemma. He had to decide whether he was either going to go to the war and fight or was he going to run away and avoid the draft. The relationship he had with Berdahl was not of friends or even regular acquaintances. Rather they were perfect strangers. That goes to show you that anyone can be a major influence on your life. Berdahl helped to open O Brien s heart. He realized who he was and where he had come from, his past and what he has been through. How all the events of the past helped him to become the person he was right now. How his past helped form his personal identity. The formation of our own personal identities often begins at birth. As you grow up, your parents are a major influence on you. They teach you many things and help to shape your personal identity. Yet, during the late 1800 s the Republicans ruled Congress and made efforts during the Reconstruction end to ensure that everyone had the same equal rights by passing the Civil Rights Bill to ensure that everyone had equal rights. This also led to questions as to what to do with the recently freed blacks. The main problem was with the Southern states and getting them to except black, so the government implemented laws and Constitutional Amendments which helped the federal government with the enforcement of equal rights which would give blacks in the south the rights to hold office and vote. This leads us to the freeman s Bureau which was also a part of the Reconstruction Act. The Reconstruction act of 1867 required southern states to except and ratify the 14th Amendment granting equal protection for the freed blacks, and the 15th Amendment guaranteed the right for blacks to vote. • 39. The Ecology Of Commerce By Environmentalist Paul Hawken Part I: Introduction The Ecology of Commerce, written by Environmentalist Paul Hawken, is an insightful, although daunting, look into economic and corporate sustainability. The first rule of sustainability is to align with natural forces, or at least not try to defy them . This quote, spoken by Paul Hawken himself, is a perfect demonstration of the major theme he carefully analyzes within the book. Economics and the environment are two words that you often don t see in the same sentence, despite the fact that the influence economics has contributes to the deterioration of our environment gravely. Part II: Background and Thesis Paul Hawken studies the many faults of the economic practices we adhere to globally. Whether or not we agree with his beliefs is a decision we as readers need to make. While an understanding of the environmental impacts is evident, as well as the biological changes it has put forth on humans, I question if individual change really makes a difference to the environment and the overall way the economy works. Hawken demonstrates a clear explanation to back up his statement of absolute resource destruction, but I believe he underestimates the change that may need to be done. I strongly believe we have reached a point in time where individual change is inadmissible, and in order to save our planet, large corporations and their accountability should be questioned. A world without sustainability, or more importantly a world without economic integrity, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Timber Beloved The Sky I chose Carr s painting Sconed as Timber, Beloved of the Sky for the main reason that as soon as I opened up the image my eyes instantly widened from the tree standing in the middle casted upon by light. The perspective of this painting is from a low angle and I believe that was this was done in order for us to admire the entire tree as it s almost alienated from the rest of them. • 42. Georgia s Craft Beer Industry Problem Statement From the end of prohibition in 1933 to the turn of the new millennium, Georgia s craft beer industry had seen more failure than success. Over a 67 year span, 9 of the 14 microbreweries to operate in the state failed. Was it the cost and availability of big beer and product loyalty that caused this to happen? But in 2013, Georgia s craft beer industry took a drastic turn. Microbreweries were opening at an exponential rate. That year, Creative Loafing, an alternative news weekly, reported eight microbreweries opening in the city of Atlanta, alone. Georgia had entered into a craft beer boom. Today, there are 31 microbreweries operating in Georgia, and 24 more in planning, bringing the total to 55 of these small production breweries. What could have changed to cause an historically failed industry to boom in such a short period of time? Millennials. According to U.S. Census data, Georgia s population of Millennials, defined as those born between 1980 and 2000, significantly increased between 2010 and 2014, the generation growing from 15.3% of the population in 2010 to 26.61% of the population in 2014. (Pew Research, U.S. Census). Earlier this year, Forbes reported that the group with the most purchasing power in the United States had shifted from the Baby Boomers to the Millennials. When Athena led the Greek forces during the Persian wars, the people of Athens thought the world needed to see her success through a statue. Pheidias began sculpting the statue in 447 BCE. The statue would remain the city s symbol for thousands of years until it completely disappeared from the historical record during the Late Antiquity period. You need to look for and expect good from your children, stop looking at the bad and negative things and look for the good and positive in them and they will bloom (Ziglar, 1998, p. 51). Be specific when you find something good in your child, tell them what it is exactly and continue to lift them up. Being Available as an EmotionCoach According to Gottman (1997), We need to help our kids deal with their emotions by being their emotion coaches and we do that with five steps 1) by being aware of their emotion, 2) recognize the emotion as a time for intimacy and teaching, 3) listen to them and validate their feelings, 4) help label the emotion with words and 5) set limits while finding ways to solve the problem (p.24). In step one, the focus is on recognizing when you are feeling an emotion, you can identify the feelings, and you are able to be sensitive to emotions in others (p. 76). Step two, when parents can use a negative experience to bring forth bonding with their children it builds intimacy and it teaches them how to deal with their feelings (p.93). During step three, two things take place, listening empathetically and validating the child s feelings. Gottman suggests that this may be the most important step in emotion coaching! The griffin shown has sharp talons and beak with pointed eyes. Lions were repeatedly seen throughout Assyrian artwork (Ascalone). The muscular legs and abdomen paired with a strong neck and flanks gave a symbolic image of the ideal solider or army. People in this era knew how lions would have appeared face to face, untamed and never enclosed. To a people with needed protection from lions, their image represented a dominance and power. The On Rain Forest Floor During Ecology Research Introduction In an attempt to avoid walking on the rain forest floor during ecology research in South America, rope walkways were strung from tree to tree. To ensure the safety of the researchers, the maximum weight that could be carried from tree to tree without the walkways collapsing had to be set. To model this system, two pulleys containing a central object suspended halfway between them with counterweights of equal mass on the outside of the pulleys was created, as shown in Figure 1. Our goal was to determine how the sag of the walkway was related to the total mass at the center of the pulleys. Figure 1: The apparatus used (not to scale). F1 is the weight of counterweight A, F2 is the weight of counterweight C, and Fw is the weight of the central object. Also shown are the forces on a coordinate system for the counterweights and the central object. The distances between the pulleys and the sag of the walkway are also shown on a coordinate system. The system is in equilibrium, so we assumed that the horizontal and vertical components of the forces will add up to zero. The counterweights A and C both had an equal mass, so they were both referred to as F1 to simplify calculations. Where Mw is the force of the mass of object B and gravity is g, we could solve for Fw. Fw = Mwg (1) Using the mass of the counterweight objects A and C, the force F1 can be calculated using MA and gravity. Because the pulleys are frictionless the force F1 should be the same magnitude on all parts of the string between the center object and the object A. F1 = MAg (2) Using the trigonometry function sin, a combination of equations (1) and (2), and the law of equilibrium ОЈF = 0 where Fy=0 and Fx=0, the angle П• can be found. F1sinП• + F1sinП• = Fw (3) Rearranging equation (3) to give the angle П• by itself gives П• = sin 1(Fw/2F1) (4) Since the walkway system creates a right triangle, the laws of trigonometry could also be used. With the distance where the object B lies between the pulleys as L/2 and the angle П•, the sag of the central object, D, could be found. D = LtanП•/2 (5) Combining equations (4) and (5) to

They stick out from the crowd and that is why one may feel like they deserve more than just the regular confidence that the average man gets, it is only necessary.
